7 CANCER CAUSING ITEMS YOU NEED TO REMOVE FROM YOUR BEDROOM RIGH - Duration: 6:37.

7 CANCER-CAUSING ITEMS YOU NEED TO REMOVE FROM YOUR BEDROOM RIGHT NOW

There are so many easy switches we can make in order to prevent cancer: from the foods

we eat to the products we put on our body, its important to be informed on what to

buy and what to avoid.

Some of these things are more obvious, like eat less McDonalds and dont

use chemicals you cant pronounce, but many other cancer-causing products could be

hiding in our houses and we dont even know it!

This article isnt meant to scare you, but rather to keep you informed.

If there are ways to prevent getting sick, why not take advantage of that knowledge and

do so?

After all, your body is your temple, and you cant enjoy your wonderful life without

taking care of it.

With that being said, lets take a look at some common cancer-causing items that are

hiding in bedrooms:

1.

Cotton Pillowcases and Sheets

Conventional cotton is one of the most pesticide-ridden crops that exists, and one of the most commonly

used herbicides sprayed on them is Monsantos Roundup, the active ingredient in which is

glyphosate.

Glyphosate has been linked to cancer time after time, yet people are still consuming

and using things that have known glyphosate residue on them.

There are tons of alternatives to conventional cotton, including bamboo and organic cotton.

I recently switched over to organic cotton bedsheets, and my life will never be the same.

Theyre equally as soft and do not pose the same health risks as conventional bedsheets

do.

2.

Fake Leather Furniture

Dont get me wrong, I do not condone using animal products and skin whatsoever.

I wouldnt want to have leather furniture in my house, and Im not encouraging others

to purchase these items either!

However, fake leather thats derived from PVC (an endocrine disruptor) and other chemicals

often contains toxic ingredients linked to a wide range of health issues.

Whats more, there are often flame retardants in sofas, regardless of whether or not its

fake leather.

Many flame retardants pose health concerns, including but not limited to cancer, hormone

disruption, and negative effects on brain development.

3.

Paints

Oddly enough, I sort of like the smell of a freshly painted home.

However, that pungent smell doesnt come without a cost.

One of the most common sources of volatile organic compounds in homes is paint, which

is a known carcinogen!

Whats worse is that exposure to these is even more potent when indoors.

The EPAs website reads: Studies have found that levels of several organics average

2 to 5 times higher indoors than outdoors.

During and for several hours immediately after certain activities, such as paint stripping,

levels may be 1,000 times background outdoor levels.

4.

Electronic Devices

Do you sleep with a cell phone next to your bed?

If you do, obviously youre not alone, as tons of people use their cell phones before

falling asleep or as an alarm clock for the morning.

Plus, if you have any other electronic devices in your bedroom such as televisions, hairdryers,

and alarm clocks, or even just outlets, WiFi, and dimmer switches, youre further increasing

your exposure to EMFs.

EMF exposure has been considered a probable carcinogen for a long time, and a lot of science

now backs up this claim.

Some easy fixes would be to either turn your phone on airplane mode, turn your phone off,

or leave it outside your bedroom entirely.

Youll improve the quality of your sleep and reduce your EMF exposure.

5.

Mattress

Unfortunately, tons of mattresses are also doused in flame retardants.

As previously discussed, flame retardants are associated with a variety of health issues

including but not limited to cancer, hormone disruption, and negative effects on brain

development.

Though the most efficient alternative would be to purchase an organic mattress, it is

said that flipping your mattress can at least help keep things clean!

6.

Stuffed Animals

Another item commonly sprayed with flame retardants is stuffed animals.

This is especially disappointing, as children would then be exposed to these toxic chemicals

at a very young age.

Many of us tend to keep our stuffed animals, but after learning this, you may want to toss

them!

7.

Relaxing Room Sprays

Air fresheners are all over peoples houses; from bedrooms to bathrooms to cars, people

love them.

Typically theyre made with synthetic fragrance, otherwise known as parfum.

Parfum is basically a cocktail of toxic chemicals, but instead of listing all of these chemicals

on the back of products, its conveniently labelled as parfum so that companies

can keep their signature fragrance a trade secret.

Unfortunately, this also allows companies to hide harmful ingredients, many of which

are known carcinogens, in their products without the consumer even knowing.

For a more natural alternative, try brands like Saje Natural Wellness or DoTerra, or

make your own using essential oils and water!

For a relaxing blend try using lavender and chamomile essential oils.

Final Thoughts

We do not publish articles like these to inspire fear amongst the public, but rather to empower

people to make more informed choices.

Its incredible that we have this knowledge and that we can use it to actually better

our health!

So, rather than worrying about what these products could do to you, just use this information

to make smarter decisions in the future.

Renewing Hope on America's East Coast - Enjoying Everyday Life - Duration: 28:33.

ANNOUNCER: THE FOLLOWING PROGRAM IS PAID FOR BY

THE FRIENDS AND PARTNERS OF JOYCE MEYER MINISTRIES.

[MUSIC]

JOYCE: WELL, WHAT DOES IT TAKE FOR SOMEONE TO OPEN THEIR

HEART TO CHRIST?

YOU KNOW, WE COME FROM MANY DIFFERENT BACKGROUNDS AND

PHILOSOPHIES, SO WHAT CAN WE DO AS BELIEVERS TO DRAW PEOPLE TO

JESUS CHRIST?

TODAY, WE'RE HEADING TO AMERICA'S EAST COAST WHERE WE

ARE SEEING SOME VERY CREATIVE IDEAS THAT ARE BRINGING PEOPLE

HOPE AND FAITH, AND YOU ARE PART OF IT.

CHECK IT OUT.

[CHURCH BELL TOLLING]

[MUSIC]

FEMALE: I USED TO GO TO CHURCH PROBABLY MAYBE EVEN ONCE

A WEEK WHEN I WAS WITH MY MOM BUT I JUST KIND OF, JUST LIKE,

GOT AWAY FROM IT.

I AM NOT RELIGIOUS.

MALE: I WOULD, LIKE, SAY I STILL BELIEVE IN, LIKE, A GOD,

LIKE, SOMETHING UP THERE.

FEMALE: AS I GREW UP, KINDA GREW AWAY FROM, LIKE,

THE RELIGION ASPECT AND DON'T GO TO CHURCH AS OFTEN.

FEMALE: I DON'T EVEN KNOW IF I WOULD SAY THAT I'M CHRISTIAN.

YEAH, I'D PROBABLY SAY THAT I'M, LIKE, AN AGNOSTIC.

MYKAL: THIS NORTHEAST I-95 CORRIDOR IS THOUGHT OF AS VERY

INTELLECTUAL.

IT'S VERY HIGHLY EDUCATED AND IT'S THE AREA WHERE PEOPLE

FIND ALTERNATIVES TO FAITH.

WHEN WE MOVED HERE TO PLANT TRUE LIFE,

WE DID SOME DEMOGRAPHIC STUDIES AND WE TRIED TO FIND OUT

WHAT WAS GOING ON HERE.

WE KNEW GOD HAD CALLED US TO THIS AREA AND OUR BEST GUESS

AFTER DOING THAT WAS THAT SOMEWHERE AROUND ABOUT 8% OF

THOSE ARE ACTIVELY INVOLVED IN A LOCAL CHURCH.

AND SO WE KNEW THIS WAS A FIELD THAT WAS RIPE FOR HARVEST.

MYKAL: ALL RIGHT, EVERYBODY.

HOW ARE WE DOING?

ARE WE DOING GOOD?

ANNOUNCER: PASTOR MYKAL MOBILIZED HIS CONGREGATION TO

MEET THE NEEDS OF HIS COMMUNITY IN A VERY UNIQUE WAY, WITH

A SPECIAL NEEDS EASTER EGG HUNT.

MYKAL: WE LEARNED REALLY QUICKLY THAT THERE IS ACTUALLY

A REALLY LARGE SPECIAL NEEDS COMMUNITY HERE AND FELT LIKE IT

WAS SOMEWHAT UNDERSERVED BY CHURCHES AND FELT LIKE THERE WAS

JUST A GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR US TO DO SOMETHING UNIQUE AND

DIFFERENT AND SERVE ALL OF THESE INCREDIBLE FAMILIES.

IT'S PART OF THE CULTURE OF OUR CHURCH.

WE SAY AT TRUE LIFE WE WANNA CREATE SPACES, CREATE

ENVIRONMENTS, WHERE ANYBODY CAN FIND A FRIEND, MEET JESUS, AND

THEN EXPERIENCE THE BEST VERSION OF LIFE THERE IS, WHERE YOU KIND

OF CONNECT THOSE THINGS TOGETHER.

WENDY: I HAVE A GRANDSON, JEREMIAH, WHO'S 4 YEARS OLD

AND HE'S TOTALLY BLIND, NO LIGHT AWARENESS.

AND WE TRY AND DO THINGS WITH HIM TO ALLOW HIM TO BE TYPICAL,

LIKE OTHER CHILDREN.

AND I WAS REALLY ATTRACTED TO THE FACT THAT THEY ACTUALLY HAD

A DIFFERENT AREA FOR THE VISUALLY IMPAIRED CHILDREN SO HE

WOULDN'T BE RUN OVER BY SOME OF THE KIDS THAT HAD VISION THAT

MAY BE A LITTLE MORE AGGRESSIVE THAN HIM.

MIKKI: WE HAVE THESE REALLY GREAT EGGS THAT WERE SUGGESTED

TO US BY THE NEWCASTLE COUNTY.

THEY SUGGESTED THAT WE USE THESE BATTERY-OPERATED EGGS THAT GIVE

OFF A SPECIAL SOUND FOR THE VISUAL--THE VISUALLY IMPAIRED SO

THAT THEY CAN ALSO PARTICIPATE.

[EGG BEEPING]

MIKKI: SO THIS IS INSIDE EACH ONE OF THE EGGS FOR THEM.

WENDY: I THINK IT IS AN AWESOME EVENT AND I THINK

IT'S A GREAT THING THAT THEY'RE REACHING OUT TO DO STUFF

LIKE THIS.

IT'S HARD TO FIND THINGS TO BE ABLE TO HELP HIM DO

TYPICAL CHILD THINGS IN A SAFE ENVIRONMENT AND THE FACT THAT

THEY PUT THIS TOGETHER AND IT WAS SO EXTREMELY WELL ORGANIZED

AND IT WAS JUST A BEAUTIFUL DAY, AND THE KIDS HAD A REALLY

GOOD TIME.

MIKKI: WE HAVE FOUR DIFFERENT TYPES.

WE HAVE A VISUAL AID EGG HUNT, A PHYSICALLY IMPAIRED EGG HUNT, AN

ALL SPECIAL NEEDS, AND THEN WE HAVE ANOTHER SEPARATE EGG HUNT

SET UP FOR THE SIBLINGS OF THE CHILDREN THAT ARE COMING TODAY,

SO THAT EVERYBODY'S INCLUDED.

KAREN: I HAVE NOT SEEN A SPECIAL NEEDS EASTER EGG HUNT

AT ALL, EVER.

SO AS SOON AS I DID SEE IT ON FACEBOOK, I REGISTERED

THE SAME DAY.

NICOLAI: MAKES ME FEEL SPECIAL 'CAUSE I'M NOT ALL

ALONE.

I HAVE FRIENDS THAT ARE JUST LIKE ME.

AND THAT'S WHY I LIKE IT.

KAREN: NICOLAI WAS DIAGNOSED WITH AUTISM WHEN HE WAS ABOUT 5,

FROM JOHN HOPKINS.

HE IS VERY HIGH FUNCTIONING BUT HE HAS A LOT OF BEHAVIORAL

ISSUES THAT STOP US FROM DOING A LOT OF THINGS.

WE DON'T HAVE AN OUTLET.

WE DON'T HAVE MOM GROUPS LIKE OTHER MOMS AND DADS.

WE DON'T HAVE NORMAL SOCIAL CLUBS LIKE OTHER MOMS AND DADS

DO, SO TO BE HERE AMONGST THE OTHER CHILDREN THAT ARE JUST

LIKE YOUR CHILD, NOBODY'S GONNA LOOK AT YOU FUNNY, NOBODY'S

GONNA JUDGE YOUR CHILD, JUDGE YOU, FOR WHAT YOUR CHILD MAY SAY

OR DO, IS AMAZING TO HAVE SOMETHING LIKE THIS.

I WISH WE COULD HAVE MORE THINGS, NOT JUST FOR EASTER, BUT

MORE THINGS ON A REGULAR BASIS WHERE SPECIAL NEEDS PARENTS CAN

COME TOGETHER AND NOT FEEL LIKE OUTCASTS.

NICOLAI: IT'S OKAY, MOM.

KAREN: I KNOW.

SOMETIMES IT'S HARD FOR ME TO TALK ABOUT, BUDDY.

NICOLAI: IT'S OKAY, MOM.

ANNOUNCER: KAREN SAYS SHE AND HER SON DON'T GO TO CHURCH

BUT THIS EVENT MAY CHANGE THAT.

KAREN: I KNOW WHERE THEIR CHURCH IS LOCATED AND IT

DEFINITELY MAKES ME WANNA SHOW UP, JUST BECAUSE SOMEBODY IN

THAT CHURCH FELT THE NEED TO DO THIS AND THEY HAD SUCH A GOOD

VOLUNTEER--THEY SHOW UP TO SUPPORT THIS.

IT MAKES ME WANNA BE A PART OF THEM, AND I WILL GO.

KRISTIN: I WANNA THANK EVERYONE FROM THE BOTTOM

OF OUR HEARTS.

THIS IS THE FIRST TIME IN 3 YEARS, EVEN WITH 9 CHILDREN,

THAT WE'VE BEEN OUT OF THE HOUSE FOR AN EGG HUNT.

WE CAN'T GO TO AN EGG HUNT WHERE THERE'S NORMAL CHILDREN 'CAUSE

YOU GET BOMBARDED AND IT'S JUST, YOU KNOW, THE ONES WITH

SPECIAL NEEDS CAN'T KEEP UP, SO THEY'LL LEAVE WITH ONE EGG.

AND HERE, ALL OF THE KIDS FEEL NORMAL.

THEY'VE ALL GOTTEN EASTER EGGS AND EVEN OUR BLIND CHILD WITH

SPECIAL NEEDS WAS ABLE TO EXPERIENCE OUR DAY.

IT'S AMAZING AND PLEASE CONTINUE THIS BECAUSE IT IS--THE SPECIAL

NEEDS KIDS REALLY DO NEED TO HAVE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO FEEL

LIKE A NORMAL CHILD AND ENJOY THESE THINGS IN LIFE THAT WE

TOOK FOR GRANTED AS CHILDREN GROWING UP.

SO THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS.

ANNOUNCER: MISTY MITCHELL AND HER 12-YEAR-OLD SON, MORGAN,

ARE MEMBERS OF TRUE LIFE CHURCH.

MISTY SAT DOWN WITH US TO SHARE SOME OF THE CHALLENGES

THEY FACE EVERY DAY.

MISTY: WELL, HE WAS DIAGNOSED WITH AUTISM BY THE AGE OF 3.

HIS AUTISM IS--CONSISTS MAINLY OF ANXIETY DISORDERS AND OCD,

WHICH HE DEALS WITH THAT ALL DAY LONG.

HIS INTESTINAL ISSUES IS PROBABLY--HAS PROBABLY BEEN

THE HARDEST.

HE'S IN PAIN A LOT.

HE GETS TREATMENT, LIKE A MEDICAL TREATMENT SO HE

DOESN'T END UP IN THE HOSPITAL.

I MEAN, HE DOESN'T GO TO TRADITIONAL SCHOOL ANYMORE.

HE'S BEEN HOMEBOUND FOR 4 YEARS SO HE DOESN'T EVEN GET TO BE IN

A CLASSROOM WITH CHILDREN AND DO THE TYPICAL THINGS THAT

12-YEAR-OLDS GET TO DO.

YOU KNOW, HAVING A SPECIAL NEEDS CHILD OF ANY CALIBER IS

JUST--IT'S A BLESSING AND IT'S NOT, AT THE SAME TIME.

I MEAN, IT'S HOW IT AFFECTS ME AND CHANGED MY LIFE HAS BEEN

AMAZING.

I SEE THINGS DIFFERENTLY BECAUSE OF HIM.

BUT YOU KNOW, IT'S BEEN--IT'S HARD.

IT'S HARD.

AND NOT MANY PEOPLE UNDERSTAND, YOU KNOW.

LIKE, I HAVE A LOT OF FRIENDS WHO DON'T HAVE CHILDREN WITH

SPECIAL NEEDS AND THEY DON'T GET IT.

MORGAN: FIRST, WHEN I CAME HERE, I DID A EASTER EGG HUNT.

THEN I WENT ON THE MOON BOUNCE.

SO AND THEN I GOT CANDY AFTER THE EASTER EGG HUNT.

A LOT OF FUN THINGS, YEAH.

MISTY: I APPRECIATE THE CHURCH BEING A PART OF

SOMETHING LIKE THAT.

IT MAKES US FEEL SPECIAL.

AGAIN, IT BRINGS THE COMMUNITY TOGETHER AND, MORE IMPORTANTLY,

IT GIVES THESE SPECIAL FAMILIES A PLACE TO GO AND FEEL ACCEPTED

AND LOVED.

I KNOW IT MADE MORGAN FEEL VERY SPECIAL.

HE FELT THIS WAS FOR HIM AND IT WAS FOR HIS GROUP OF KIDS

AND, YOU KNOW, HE DIDN'T FEEL LIKE--HE DIDN'T FEEL DIFFERENT.

MORGAN: I HAD FUN AND I DON'T REALLY GET TO DO A LOT LIKE

THIS, BUT I HAD A REALLY GOOD TIME TODAY.

ANNOUNCER: MISTY HAS A MESSAGE FOR

JOYCE MEYER MINISTRIES' FRIENDS AND PARTNERS WHO HELPED

FUND THE EVENT.

MISTY: THANK YOU.

I MEAN, I'M SO APPRECIATIVE THAT THEY'RE WANTING TO BE A PART OF,

YOU KNOW, OUR WORLD AND HELP OUR COMMUNITY OUT AND BRING US

TOGETHER AND I JUST--I THINK IT'S AMAZING MINISTRY.

I THINK IT'S AN AMAZING THING AND I THINK THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE

ARE GONNA BE REACHED AND TOUCHED BY THAT EVENT.

[MUSIC]

EVAN: THE DNA OF WHAT WE DO SPECIFICALLY WITHIN DOMESTIC

OUTREACH IS WE'RE NOT TRYING TO PREFABRICATE OR MANUFACTURE AN

OUTREACH EVENT AND THEN BRING IT TO A COMMUNITY.

EVERY SINGLE LOCATION THAT WE DO AN OUTREACH EVENT IN HERE IN

THE UNITED STATES IS TAILORED TO THE FAMILIES IN THE COMMUNITY

AND THE SPECIFIC ORGANIZATION THAT WE PARTNER WITH.

JUST BY BEING A PARTNER OF JOYCE MEYER MINISTRIES,

YOU'RE ABLE TO BE IN NEWARK, DELAWARE, WITH US.

YOU'RE ABLE TO BE IN GLEN BURNIE, MARYLAND,

AND PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.

BUT ALSO, WE DO TYPICALLY 10 TO 20 OUTREACHES LIKE THIS

AROUND THE COUNTRY EVERY YEAR AND SO YOUR INVOLVEMENT

HELPS YOU TO BE A PART OF EVERYTHING THAT

HAND OF HOPE IS DOING ACROSS THE COUNTRY.

AND THAT'S REALLY SPECIAL.

ANNOUNCER: WOULD YOU PRAYERFULLY CONSIDER

GIVING A SPECIAL GIFT TODAY?

YOUR GIVING MAKES A HUGE DIFFERENCE FOR PEOPLE HERE IN

THE UNITED STATES AND AROUND THE WORLD.

YOUR GENEROSITY ENABLES US TO HELP PEOPLE REBUILD THEIR LIVES

AFTER DISASTER STRIKES, AND BRING CLEAN WATER TO SOME OF

THE MOST REMOTE PLACES ON EARTH.

TOGETHER, WE'RE FEEDING MORE THAN 80,000 CHILDREN ON

A REGULAR BASIS AND BRINGING DESPERATELY NEEDED MEDICAL CARE

TO COMMUNITIES THAT LACK THE MOST BASIC HEALTHCARE.

YOUR GIVING MAKES THIS AND SO MUCH MORE POSSIBLE.

CALL THE NUMBER ON YOUR SCREEN OR VISIT OUR WEBSITE TODAY.

GIVE THE GIFT OF GOD'S LOVE TO PEOPLE ALL OVER THE WORLD.

ANNOUNCER: FOR YOUR DONATION TODAY OF ANY AMOUNT, WE'D LIKE

TO SAY THANK YOU WITH THE BOOKS OF PSALMS AND PROVERBS FROM THE

NEW "BATTLEFIELD OF THE MIND" STUDY BIBLE.

CONTACT US RIGHT NOW...

OR GO TO JOYCEMEYER.ORG.

ANNOUNCER: OUR JOURNEY CONTINUED TO ANOTHER

AMAZING CHURCH, THIS ONE IN GLEN BURNIE, MARYLAND,

A SUBURB OF BALTIMORE.

[MUSIC]

FEMALE: I'VE SEEN A LOT OF TRAGEDIES WITH MY FRIENDS AND,

FOR THAT REASON, I THINK A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE QUESTIONED

THEIR FAITH.

AND EVEN WHAT'S HAPPENING IN THE WORLD, YOU KNOW, POLITICALLY,

IT'S KIND OF A CONFUSING TIME FOR EVERYONE.

FEMALE: I DUNNO, I THINK THERE ARE OTHER WAYS TO HAVE

FAITH IN A RELATIONSHIP WITH SOMETHING GREATER THAT MAY OR

MAY NOT BE GOD OR UNIVERSE, WHATEVER YOU WANNA CALL IT,

THAT CAN JUST BE DONE IN YOUR OWN WAY.

[MUSIC]

JIMMY: WELL, ONE OF THE HURDLES, IF YOU WILL, IN THIS

AREA IS PEOPLE ARE JUST UNCHURCHED, YOU KNOW.

IT DOESN'T MATTER, SOCIAL-ECONOMIC STATUS,

IT'S JUST AN UNCHURCHED AREA.

I DON'T KNOW IF THAT'S BECAUSE, YOU KNOW, WE'RE NEXT TO D.C.

AND THE POLITICAL CLIMATE IS HIGH.

BUT WHAT WE'RE TRYING TO DO IS INTRODUCE A NEED FOR GOD AGAIN.

ANNOUNCER: PASTOR JIMMY AND HIS CONGREGATION

DECIDED TO ADOPT A BALTIMORE NEIGHBORHOOD CALLED BROOKLYN

AND MEET SOME OF THEIR BIGGEST NEEDS THROUGH

AN OUTREACH CALLED "RED WEEK."

JIMMY: AND SO THE IDEA OF RED WEEK IS THAT

WE WOULD FOCUS AN ENTIRE WEEK BEING A SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY

BEFORE WE ASKED THE COMMUNITY TO COME TO CHURCH.

AND I BELIEVE THAT WE ARE CALLED IN THAT GREAT COMMISSION TO BE

THE HANDS AND FEET OF JESUS.

WE JUST REALLY PUT EVERYTHING AROUND THE FIVE, WHICH IS OUR

MISSION, HIGH FIVE: FOOD, WATER, SHELTER, CLOTHING, AND CARE.

AND SO WE ASKED OURSELVES HOW CAN WE MAKE AN IMPACT IN THOSE

FIVE MISSIONAL AREAS.

ANNOUNCER: BROOKLYN IS A NEIGHBORHOOD STRUGGLING WITH

POVERTY, VIOLENCE, ADDICTION, AND HOPELESSNESS.

BUT I-5 CHURCH IS ON A MISSION TO CHANGE THAT AND,

AS A JOYCE MEYER MINISTRIES FRIEND AND PARTNER, YOU'RE

ON THAT MISSION WITH THEM.

PAM: WE HAD OVER 200 FAMILIES COME OUT AND IT WAS REALLY

A GREAT TIME OF DEVELOPING RELATIONSHIP AND GIVING THEM

A BAG OF GROCERIES.

CLERRA: WE HAVE SO MANY FAMILIES IN THIS COMMUNITY THAT

REALLY NEED HELP AND LITTLE THINGS LIKE THIS REALLY HELPS

OUT A LOT OF PEOPLE.

SO IT MEANS A LOT THAT PEOPLE WILL COME OUT AND GIVE SOMETHING

TO THE COMMUNITY.

IT'S REALLY GOOD.

PAM: LIFE HAPPENS TO EVERYBODY AND SOMETIMES THEY

JUST WANT A FRIENDLY EAR TO LISTEN TO AND, BY DEVELOPING

THAT RELATIONSHIP IN THIS AREA ONE STEP AT A TIME, ONE RED BAG

AT A TIME, IS TRULY HOW WE PLAN ON REALLY INFILTRATING

THE NEIGHBORHOOD.

JIMMY: THERE'S AN AREA AT RED WEEK THAT WE SERVED CALLED

TENT CITY.

AND IN TENT CITY, THERE'S ABOUT 200 HOMELESS THAT ARE THERE.

REGINA: WE'RE AT A TENT CITY RIGHT NOW WHERE YOU CAN TELL

THEY'RE HOMELESS PEOPLE WHO DON'T HAVE MUCH HERE AND SO

WE'RE CLEANING UP, DESPITE NEEDLES, DESPITE TRASH.

WE WANNA MAKE SURE THAT THEIR HOMES ARE CLEANER THAN WHAT

THEY LEFT 'EM.

IT'S JUST AN HONOR TO BE A PART OF THIS.

JIMMY: SOME OF THESE PEOPLE THERE HAVE NOT HAD SHOWERS FOR

3 MONTHS.

I THOUGHT WOULDN'T IT BE INCREDIBLE IF WE COULD DIGNIFY

THE HOMELESS PEOPLE WITH A SHOWER, A SINK, HOT WATER.

AND SO WITH OUR MOBILE SERVICE UNIT, WE WERE ABLE TO DO THAT

AND MEET THOSE NEEDS.

TYFANNI: SO THIS IS ONE OF TWO SHOWERS OR STALLS IN

THE MOBILE SERVICE UNIT.

INSIDE HERE IS A COMPLETE SHOWER.

THEN WE HAVE THE TOILETS AND A FULL SINK AND THEN IN THIS AREA

WE HAVE ALL OF THE TOILETRIES AND THEY GET TO CHOOSE WHAT

THEY'RE GONNA TAKE WITH THEM.

AND THEN ON THIS SIDE, THIS IS WHERE WE KEEP THE FOOD WARM

FOR THE MEALS THAT WE PREPARE.

TODAY, WE ARE GOING TO HAVE A SPAGHETTI AND MEATBALL DINNER.

IRENE: THE MOBILE UNIT IS AWESOME.

I THINK IT IS AWESOME.

IT IS JUST GREAT.

IT'S WONDERFUL THAT THEY ARE DOING THIS FOR PEOPLE LIKE US

THAT REALLY NEED IT.

JOEL: WHEN WE WALKED UP, THEY OFFERED US FOOD, CLOTHES,

AND TOILETRIES, SHOWER, HAND MASSAGES.

IT WAS AMAZING, AMAZING.

TERRY: WHAT I LOVE ABOUT WHAT WE SEE HERE IS WE BROUGHT THIS

SERVICE TO THEM.

AND I BELIEVE THEY FEEL THE LOVE.

I BELIEVE THEY KNOW THAT WE'RE SINCERE AND WE'RE GONNA BE

CONSISTENT.

ON MONDAY WHEN FOLKS WERE HERE CLEANING UP, WE EVEN PUT DOWN

GRAVEL SO WHEN THEY GO TO THEIR TENT HOME, THEY DON'T HAVE TO

WALK THROUGH THE MUD TO GET THERE.

LITTLE THINGS LIKE THAT.

I SMILED WHEN I SAW ONE OF THE GENTLEMEN, LIKE THAT GUY THERE,

WHO'S WALKING AWAY WITH HIS BACKPACK ON, AND HE'S JUST

STRUTTING ACROSS THE STREET WITH HIS FOOD IN HIS BACKPACK WITH

HIS TOILETRIES AND THAT SAYS THAT TONIGHT'S GONNA BE

DIFFERENT FOR HIM BECAUSE HE HAS A HOT MEAL PREPARED BY OUR CHEF

AND HE HAS A BAG OF TOILETRIES AND HE HAS SOME THINGS THAT HE

NEEDS THAT WILL HELP HIS QUALITY OF LIFE IMPROVE, EVEN IF JUST

FOR A NIGHT.

IRENE: IT MEANS A LOT TO ME, IT REALLY DOES, TO KNOW THAT

YOU DO GOT PEOPLE OUT HERE THAT DOES CARE BECAUSE I--SOMETIMES

I DON'T THINK ANYBODY CARES.

AND IT SHOWS THAT PEOPLE DO CARE.

JIMMY: SO EACH AND EVERY OUTREACH, WE GIVE AND EMPOWER

OUR GROUP WITH A LITTLE POSTCARD, A FLYER, THAT IS

ACTUALLY INVITING THEM TO CHURCH ON SUNDAY MORNINGS.

NOT JUST AN INVITATION BUT HERE'S WHAT TIME WE'RE GONNA

COME AND PICK YOU UP, YOU KNOW.

AND SO IF WE'RE TAKING FOOD TO THEM AND WE'RE TAKING--AND THEY

HAVE THESE NEEDS, THEN IT'S PROBABLY SAFE TO SAY THAT THEY

DON'T HAVE TRANSPORTATION TO CHURCH.

SO LET'S ALSO PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION BACK TO THE

HOSPITAL JUST AS AN AMBULANCE.

WE WOULDN'T LEAVE SOMEONE OUT ON THE STREET, YOU KNOW, AND SAY,

YOU KNOW, "WELL, WE HOPE YOU GO TO THE DOCTOR ONE DAY."

JENNIFER: I THINK RED WEEK IS REALLY GREAT BECAUSE A LOT OF

PEOPLE DON'T HAVE ANYTHING, YOU KNOW, AND IT DOES HELP OUT

A LOT WITH CLOTHING AND FOOD.

MY KIDS LOVE IT TOO BECAUSE MONDAY I WAS ACTUALLY TRYING TO

FIGURE OUT WHAT I WAS GONNA MAKE MY KIDS FOR DINNER 'CAUSE I

DIDN'T HAVE ANYTHING.

SO MY KIDS WERE LOOKING OUT THE WINDOW AND THERE WAS A BIG SIGN

ON THE CORNER SAID, "FREE FOOD."

SO MY KIDS RAN IN THE FRONT ROOM AND SAID, "MOMMY, COME ON.

THEY GOT FOOD ACROSS THE STREET."

SO I GOT DRESSED AND WE CAME OVER AND THEY ACTUALLY GAVE MY

KIDS HOT DOGS AND TOLD THEM TO PICK WHATEVER THEY WANT AND SO

THAT WAS REALLY GOOD THAT DAY, SO.

JIMMY: WE DID THIS WORK CLOTHING DRIVE AND WE JUST

WANTED TO PROVIDE WORK CLOTHES FOR PEOPLE, YOU KNOW, WHEN THEY

WERE GOING ON INTERVIEWS AND I HAD SOME INCREDIBLE

CONVERSATIONS WITH YOUNG MEN, YOU KNOW, WHO ARE LOOKING FOR

JOBS BUT DON'T HAVE THE CLOTHES, THE ACTUAL PRACTICAL THINGS

THAT THEY NEED TO EVEN PURSUE A JOB OPPORTUNITY.

ERIC: I FOUND TWO OF 'EM THAT REALLY FIT ME VERY WELL AND ONE

OF 'EM ACTUALLY STILL HAS TAGS ON IT, WHICH, YOU KNOW, I'M VERY

THANKFUL TO I-5 CHURCH AND JOYCE MEYER'S FOR MAKING THESE

SUITS AVAILABLE TO US IN THE COMMUNITY.

WE REALLY APPRECIATE IT.

TANIKA: IT'S HARD SOMETIMES TO GET TO THE THRIFT STORE

AND SOMETIMES YOU DON'T HAVE THE MONEY TO DO IT.

SO I JUST, YOU KNOW, I APPRECIATE THEM BRINGING

THE CLOTHES TO THE COMMUNITY.

ANNOUNCER: TANIKA RUCKER LIVES HERE

WITH HER THREE CHILDREN.

SHE SAYS OUTREACHES LIKE RED WEEK GO A LONG WAY TOWARD

BRINGING HOPE TO HER COMMUNITY.

TANIKA: I APPRECIATE RED WEEK BECAUSE RED WEEK, ON TUESDAY

THEY GAVE FOOD OUT.

SO YOU KNEW THEY WAS GIVING SOMETHING OUT.

THEY HAD RED BAGS, RED TRUCK, SO THEY HAD DIFFERENT THINGS THAT

YOU COULD USE IN THERE TO HELP YOU FOR THE PARENTS THAT WORKING

AND REALLY DON'T HAVE TOO MUCH TO PUT ON THE PLATE FOR THEIR

CHILDREN.

THE COMMUNITY NEEDS STUFF LIKE THIS, YOU KNOW?

IT HELPS THE PEOPLE COME OUT AND KNOW THERE IS PEOPLE THAT CARE.

AND THAT'S WHY THEY SAID IT'S SO IMPORTANT FOR THEM TO CONTINUE

TO DO IT.

YOU KNOW, IT'S HARD, STRUGGLING.

SOMETIMES, YOU KNOW, PEOPLE DON'T KNOW THAT, YOU KNOW,

EVERYBODY DON'T--IS NOT ON FOOD STAMPS.

EVERYBODY--SOME OF US WORK, LIKE ME.

WE WORK AND, YOU KNOW, TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW YOU'RE GONNA PAY

YOUR RENT.

ALL THE RENT IS NOT LOW.

WHEN I FIRST MOVED HERE, I WAS 21 WITH MY FIRST CHILD

AND PREGNANT WITH MY SECOND.

IT WAS A STEPPING STONE.

IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A STEPPING STONE BUT, AS TIME WENT ON,

YOU KNOW, 16 YEARS LATER, I'M STILL HERE.

SOMETIMES, PEOPLE THINK BECAUSE YOU LIVE A CERTAIN PLACE THAT

THAT'S WHAT YOU WANT.

AND NOT ALL THE TIME, THAT'S WHAT WE WANT.

BECAUSE WE WANT OUR NEIGHBORHOOD TO BE BETTER, YOU KNOW.

I WANT MY CHILDREN TO BE DECENT.

I WANT STABLE--A STABLE ENVIRONMENT, SAFE ENVIRONMENT.

AT THE END OF THE DAY, I SHOW MY CHILDREN THAT EVEN THOUGH YOU

HAVE A CHALLENGE, BUT YOU'RE ABLE TO DO ANYTHING WITH GOD.

AND YOU KNOW, THAT'S YOUR CHALLENGES.

YOU KNOW, THAT'S YOUR CHALLENGES THAT WE, YOU KNOW, LIKE, NOTHING

STOPS ME BECAUSE GOD SAY THAT WE CAN DO EVERYTHING WITH HIS HELP.

WE'RE NEVER ALONE.

NO MATTER WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE, NO MATTER WHAT IT FEELS LIKE,

WE ARE NEVER ALONE.

[MUSIC]

JIMMY: THE PARTNERS OF HAND OF HOPE

AND JOYCE MEYER MINISTRIES, I'D JUST LIKE TO SAY THIS.

THERE IS NO BETTER INVESTMENT THAN THE ONE THAT IS ETERNAL.

THIS IS THE TANGIBLE HANDS AND FEET OF JESUS.

US MEETING NEEDS RIGHT WHERE PEOPLE ARE AND IT'S AMAZING THAT

THE HAND OF HOPE AND JOYCE MEYER'S MINISTRY

IS THE VEHICLE THAT GOD IS USING FOR SUCH A TIME AS THIS TO MEET

THOSE NEEDS.

SO THANK YOU.

GOD BLESS YOU.

WE ARE THE BOOTS IN THE ACTION BUT YOU'RE ALSO A PART OF

THAT ACTION.

THANK YOU, IT'S AMAZING.

ANNOUNCER: FOR YOUR DONATION TODAY OF ANY AMOUNT, WE'D LIKE

TO SAY THANK YOU WITH THE BOOKS OF PSALMS AND PROVERBS FROM THE

NEW "BATTLEFIELD OF THE MIND" STUDY BIBLE.

ANNOUNCER: THE FINAL PART OF OUR JOURNEY

TOOK US TO THE CITY OF EAST PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.

FEMALE: I'M AGNOSTIC.

I THINK THAT IF YOU WANNA BE A GOOD PERSON AND TREAT OTHERS

WITH RESPECT, YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE AFFILIATED WITH ANY RELIGION.

FEMALE: SO I BLEND CHRISTIANITY WITH

NATIVE AMERICAN CULTURE AND SO, IN THE NATIVE AMERICAN

SPIRIT, WE BELIEVE IN THE EARTH, THE TREES, BUT WE ALSO BELIEVE

THAT GOD IS THE MAKER OF THE EARTH AND THE TREES.

FEMALE: SO I GREW UP IN THE UKRAINIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH

WHEN I WAS YOUNGER AND, AS I GOT OLDER,

I STARTED TO BRANCH OUT AND LEARN MORE ABOUT OTHER FAITHS

AND I FELT THAT MY SPIRITUAL BELIEFS AND THE WAY I WANTED TO

LIVE MY LIFE ALIGNED A LITTLE BIT MORE WITH BUDDHIST VALUES.

JOSH: WELL, PROVIDENCE IS THE LEAST BIBLE-MINDED AREA OF

THE ENTIRE COUNTRY, WHICH REALLY MEANS THAT THE MAJORITY OF

PEOPLE HERE, THEY DON'T BELIEVE IN THE AUTHORITY OF SCRIPTURE

AND THEY ALSO DON'T SPEND TIME READING IT.

IN NEW ENGLAND, THE CHURCH ATTENDANCE RATE IS ANYWHERE

BETWEEN 3% AND 5%.

BUT THEN ALSO, WE'RE NOT ONLY THE LEAST ATTENDED BUT WE ALSO

HAVE THE FEWEST AMOUNT OF CHURCHES WITHIN THE ENTIRE

COUNTRY TOO.

SO FOR US, AS YOU HAVE INDIVIDUALS THAT DON'T HAVE

THE BODY OF CHRIST PRESENT, AND THEY'RE ALSO STRUGGLING

AS THE LEAST BIBLE-MINDED CITY IN THE ENTIRE COUNTRY,

THEY'RE TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO FOLLOW

JESUS WITHOUT THE CHURCH.

AND THAT IS A PROBLEM.

ANNOUNCER: BRIDGEPOINTE CHRISTIAN CHURCH

FOUND A GREAT WAY TO DRAW UNCHURCHED FAMILIES TO CHRIST.

WITH THE SUPPORT OF JOYCE MEYER MINISTRIES' FRIENDS

AND PARTNERS, THEY HOST AN EASTER EGG HUNT

AT THREE DIFFERENT LOCATIONS IN THEIR EAST PROVIDENCE COMMUNITY.

JOSH: WE BEGAN THIS EVENT BECAUSE WE UNDERSTAND THERE'S

A LOT OF PEOPLE WHO ARE NEVER GONNA COME THROUGH THE DOORS OF

BRIDGEPOINTE AND THEY--THEY JUST HAVEN'T DECIDED THAT THAT'S

SOMETHING THAT'S IMPORTANT TO THEIR LIFE YET.

SO WE BELIEVE THAT, AS THE CHURCH, OUR CALL IS

TO GO TO THEM.

AND REALLY, THAT'S WHY WE DO THIS.

THIS IS WHY WE DO ANYTHING THAT WE DO, ESPECIALLY THIS EGG HUNT

IS AN AMAZING OPPORTUNITY FOR US TO REACH THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE WHO

WOULD NEVER WALK INTO THE CHURCH.

THIS IS A NEXT STEP FOR THEM.

REBECCA: I LOVE BEING PART OF THIS.

I LOVE SEEING THE COMMUNITY.

IT WAS AWESOME STANDING FAR AWAY AND WATCHING ALL THE KIDS JUST

RUN AND IT'S AMAZING SEEING SO MANY PEOPLE COME TOGETHER.

FEMALE: WHEN HE SAID GO, THEY ALL, LIKE--THEY ALL, LIKE, RAN

TOWARDS THE EGGS AND STARTED GRABBING THEM ALL.

IT WAS FUN.

FEMALE: IT WAS FUN.

KIM: THEY HAD A BLAST.

WE ENJOYED ALL THE ACTIVITIES ACROSS THE STREET TOO.

THERE WAS--WE DIDN'T GET TO FACE-PAINT YET BUT WE'RE GOING

BACK FOR THAT.

BUT THEY LOVED THE BOUNCY HOUSE AND THEY HAD POPCORN AND

LEMONADE AND THEY HAD A BLAST.

I THINK THAT IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT TO HAVE EVENTS LIKE

THIS FOR PEOPLE TO COME TO KNOW CHRIST AND JUST TO--JUST TO GET

TO KNOW EACH OTHER AND TO HAVE FUN TOGETHER AND THEN DO--YOU

KNOW, WANNA BUILD ON THOSE RELATIONSHIPS AND FEEL

COMFORTABLE GOING INTO A CHURCH THAT THEY MAY HAVE NEVER BEEN TO

BEFORE BECAUSE NOW THEY KNOW SOMEBODY AND JUST KNOW THAT

THEY'LL BE WELCOMED THERE.

AND THIS IS A GREAT WAY TO DO THAT.

JOSH: BEING ABLE TO HAVE A FAMILY-FRIENDLY EVENT WHERE

THERE'S CONVERSATIONS HAPPENING WITH THOSE WHO KNOW JESUS IS

REALLY THE NEXT STEP FOR SOMEONE BEFORE THEY COME EVER ON

A SUNDAY.

OUR HOPE IS, IS THAT BEFORE WE TELL THEM WHAT THEY NEED TO KNOW

ABOUT JESUS, THAT WE LET THEM KNOW THAT WE CARE.

ANNOUNCER: THAT MESSAGE GOT THROUGH LOUD AND CLEAR

TO REBECCA AND ROGER DESA.

THEY HEARD ABOUT LAST YEAR'S EGG HUNT AND IT MADE THEM WANT

TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THE CHURCH.

REBECCA: WE TALKED ABOUT IT AND WE REALLY NEEDED SOMETHING

ELSE IN OUR LIVES AND IT-- THERE WAS DEFINITELY

SOMETHING MISSING.

ROGER: WE DECIDED WE WERE JUST GONNA TRY IT OUT, AND

BRIDGEPOINTE DEFINITELY OPENED UP THE DOOR THAT I ALWAYS KNEW

WAS THERE, I JUST HADN'T WALKED THROUGH IT YET.

REBECCA: BEFORE HAVING CHRIST, MY LIFE WAS--I WAS VERY

ALL OVER THE PLACE.

I WAS NEVER ON ONE PATH.

AND NOW I'M ON ONE PATH AND I KNOW IT'S THE RIGHT ONE.

THIS EASTER EGG HUNT'S REALLY IMPORTANT BECAUSE PEOPLE DON'T

KNOW THE CHURCH EXISTS IF YOU DON'T HAVE THE COMMUNITY

INVOLVED.

ROGER: YOU HAVE THIS TINY LITTLE EGG WITH SOME CANDY IN IT

THAT YOUR CHILD TAKES HOME, AND THE EXPERIENCE THAT THEY HAVE

WHEN THEY COME HERE AND THE PEOPLE THAT YOU MEET AND THE

RELATIONSHIPS THAT YOU FORM, IT'S REALLY A SMALL, SMALL THING

THAT WILL JUST PLANT THAT SEED AND IT'LL GROW AND GROW INTO

SOMETHING HUGE.

REBECCA: JUST EVEN REACHING TO ONE PERSON, FOR THEM TO ENJOY

AND MEET THE NEW PEOPLE AND MAKE NEW FRIENDS AND HAVE NEW

RELATIONSHIPS, AND EVENTUALLY, HOPEFULLY, HAVE A RELATIONSHIP

WITH CHRIST, IT'S A GREAT DOOR-OPENER.

JOYCE MEYER'S MINISTRY HAS BEEN HELPING SPONSOR THESE EVENTS

AND IT'S AMAZING.

IT'S--WE'RE SO GRATEFUL THAT THEY CAN HELP US SO THAT WE CAN

KEEP ON BRINGING PEOPLE TO CHRIST AND WE APPRECIATE IT.

[MUSIC]

JOYCE: WELL, WE REALIZE THAT THERE IS A GREAT DEAL OF WORK TO

BE DONE RIGHT HERE IN THE UNITED STATES

AND AROUND THE WORLD.

SO THROUGH HAND OF HOPE, WE MAKE THAT A PRIORITY.

THERE'S NO MORE POWERFUL WAY TO INTRODUCE PEOPLE TO CHRIST THAN

BY MEETING THEIR PRACTICAL NEEDS WHEN THEY'RE HURTING.

AND YOU KNOW WHAT?

WE CAN'T DO IT ALONE.

YOUR FAITHFUL GIVING MAKES IT ALL POSSIBLE.

THIS IS HOW WE PARTNER TOGETHER IN REACHING PEOPLE FOR

JESUS CHRIST.

SO WOULD YOU CONSIDER GIVING A VERY SPECIAL GIFT TODAY TO HELP

US WITH OUR MISSIONS AROUND THE WORLD?

YOU KNOW, SOMEBODY GAVE AT SOME POINT TO HELP YOU BE INTRODUCED

TO CHRIST, AND NOW WE'RE ASKING YOU TO DO THE SAME THING TO HELP

SOMEBODY ELSE.

YOUR GIVING NOT ONLY PROVIDES THE GOSPEL TO PEOPLE, BUT IT

HELPS PROVIDE CLEAN WATER IN SOME OF THE MOST REMOTE AREAS

OF THE EARTH.

IT HELPS US FEED MORE THAN 80,000 CHILDREN ON

A REGULAR BASIS.

IT HELPS RESTORE WOMEN AND CHILDREN, THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN

RESCUED FROM SEX TRAFFICKING AND MORE AND MORE AND MORE.

SO MANY PEOPLE THAT ARE DESPERATELY HURTING AND WE CAN

HELP THEM BY JUST, EACH ONE OF US, DOING WHAT WE CAN DO.

SO I'M GONNA ASK YOU TODAY TO SEND IN YOUR VERY BEST OFFERING.

DO IT IN FAITH, TRUST GOD TO NOT ONLY HELP SOMEBODY WITH YOUR

GIFT BUT ALSO TO BRING A BLESSING IN YOUR LIFE AS WELL.

WE LOVE YOU SO MUCH AND WE APPRECIATE YOU HELPING US TODAY.

WE PROMISE TO DO OUR BEST AND, AS YOU DO YOUR BEST, WE CAN

SERVE THE BEST ONE, JESUS CHRIST, IN THE BEST WAY

POSSIBLE.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR GIVING.

Why 23 million Americans don't have fast internet - Duration: 7:16.

"I want to tell you my secret now..."

"I see..."

Do you want to know what Haley Joel Osment

says in The Sixth Sense?

What about this noise?

For many Americans,

slow internet or no internet is still a reality,

and the internet speed in Nashville, Tennessee,

might not be as fast in Nashville, Kansas.

Besides missing "Stranger Things,

having a slow connection

can mean increased health risks,

a limited education,

or having less money,

all of which, creates a divided country,

because the fact is:

all American internet is not equal.

In 2015, The FCC defined "broadband" as internet with

download speeds of at least 25 Megabits per second

and uploads of at least 3.

That basically means, a constant connection

capable of streaming videos,

sending messages,

and transferring data.

On multiple devices.

Overall, 10 percent of Americans don't have broadband.

But rural areas suffer most.

39 percent of rural Americans,

about 23 million people, don't have high-speed internet.

This map shows where broadband is available

and areas it has yet to reach.

In places where broadband adoption is higher,

so is the number of people

who've earned a college degree.

Fewer people are unemployed,

and the rates of poverty are also lower.

Without fast internet,

rural Americans have a difficult time

accessing government services, like Medicare.

And as education moves online,

students struggle to complete assignments at home.

In a few rural districts,

superintendents have loaded school buses with wi-fi

and parked them overnight in neighborhoods

where kids need it to do their homework.

These communities would benefit from broadband,

so why don't they have it?

In cities, most broadband is "wireline",

which typically means it is delivered through

fiber optic cables that have been laid in the ground.

Laying cables is expensive,

but there's an incentive for providers:

high population density means hundreds of people

pay to access the same network.

In rural areas, that's not the case.

So large telecoms, like AT&T and Comcast,

don't prioritize extending cable lines

if they only reach a few people.

But there is an alternative,

and that's "wireless" broadband:

which is either beamed from a satellite, or relayed

from the nearest fixed wireless point by antennas.

In places like Appalachia or The Rocky Mountains,

a wireless system can be

an effective way to provide internet.

But its quality is not as reliable as wireline.

Outside of traditional providers, a few tech companies

are trying to create new wireless options

that could be used in rural areas around the world.

This video is from Project Loon:

Alphabet's internet-beaming balloon system

designed to connect people in remote areas

using wireless technology.

Like Loon, Facebook also has

its own wireless project:

a solar-powered drone called Aquila,

which Mark Zuckerberg hopes will help reach,

"half the world's population -- 4 billion people --

--[who] still can't access the internet."

And then, there's Microsoft,

which is focusing on rural broadband, here in America.

Their plan is to send wireless internet

using unlicensed television frequencies,

called "white spaces".

While these companies pursue futuristic projects

that focus on wireless,

a proven example for providing wireline connections,

in The US, lies in the opposite direction:

The Past.

In 1935, President Roosevelt created

The Rural Electrification Administration, or "REA",

to deliver electricity to rural America.

Before then, most Americans receiving electricity

got it from private companies.

But The REA changed that.

It loaned federal funding to electric cooperatives

that built power lines private companies wouldn't.

Within a few decades, most of America was electrified

and now some of those same co-ops

are providing internet.

But unlike electrification,

which relied almost entirely on co-ops,

there are many models for deploying broadband.

For example, the city of Cedar Falls, Iowa

built its own municipal network

and later used a portion of a federal grant

to extend the network to nearby rural communities.

"We are seizing the potential of the internet

and other technologies."

For the past two decades, presidents have been

allocating federal dollars for high-speed internet.

"We must bring the promise of broadband technology

to millions of Americans."

But rural broadband has been an evolving challenge.

"When you look at the speeds we're going to need

for all the apps and the videos,

and all the data,

new software that is constantly coming onto market.

We've got to keep pace.

We've got to be up to speed."

President Obama increased funding and enabled

municipal networks like the one in Cedar Falls,

which are prohibited in other states.

Now, President Trump is calling for

even more investment, while also

scaling back Obama's policies.

Standing near a tractor in June,

President Trump announced his new infrastructure plan.

"That is why I will be including a provision

in our infrastructure proposal --

$1 trillion dollar proposal,

you'll be seeing it very shortly

to promote and foster enhanced broadband access

for rural America, also!"

The speech drew a big applause in Iowa, but

but Trump's commitment may have been misleading.

Not only because the proposal has not arrived yet,

but, less than two months after his speech,

The FCC outlined priorities for the new administration,

Including a suggestion to set

a lower mobile broadband benchmark

of 10 Megabits per second.

That's roughly equivalent to 4G mobile phone coverage,

which most of America

already receives from major providers.

So if the broadband benchmark becomes 10,

nearly all of America would be covered

and the government could claim they've

fulfilled their promise to increase rural broadband.

But in reality, all they've done is redefined

what it means to offer high speed internet.

It would be a standard sufficient for social media

and other apps, but falls short of the

high speed service that can help schools,

businesses, and rural healthcare facilities.

On an international scale, it would signal that The FCC

is fine with connectivity slower than mobile speeds

in Kenya or Greece, both of which

rank higher than The United States.

Dropping the benchmark lowers the broadband goal,

but using electrification as a funding model

could help reach it where it is.

Expansion is expensive.

But history and research show that

providing equal internet for all Americans

is worth it.

Lovers in Bloom | 木槿花开了 | 무궁화 꽃이 피었습니다 - Ep.82 [SUB : ENG,CHN,IND / 2017.09.26] - Duration: 31:47.

Jin Bora!

(Episode 82)

What are you doing here? Huh?

Why'd you come?

I asked you what you were doing here!

What do you care?

It's over between us.

Jin Bora.

I kept my word,

so what were you thinking coming here?

Go...

Unless you'll marry me.

Mom.

Suhyeok's being a pain.

Why won't he answer his phone?

- Mom, that's enough. / - What?

They're adults.

Why are you making a fuss

over him not answering

his phone like it's a big deal?

Why are you giving me attitude?

You left without a word. Why?

Did you fight with Inspector Cha?

Mom, please.

What? Stop meddling?

Since we're on the topic,

I'm more worried about you than Suhyeok.

I don't like what Inspector Cha does either.

Mom.

He said he wouldn't let you go through this alone.

That was just talk.

What has he actually done?

Does he think love alone can lead to marriage?

Fine. That's enough.

I'm sorry.

Does he even have his own house?

In-laws and the eldest...

What in the world are you thinking?

I told you to stop!

How dare you raise your voice at me?

What do you know anyway?

I know everything. Everything.

I see it as clear as day,

you childish fool.

Fine. I'm childish.

But what can I do

since this is how I am?

Good grief. Good grief.

Oh, my.

I dozed off.

You're up?

You didn't get a wink of sleep last night either.

What's wrong?

Taejin asked me about his mother.

So?

Don't worry too much.

He may be sad now,

but it'll be reassuring to know his mom is well.

If she had it tough like I did

or if she's sick...

The problem is that's not all.

Is there something else I'm not aware of?

Is she ill?

Is that why she came?

Geez. That'd actually be easier to tell him.

It's not that. She isn't

officially Chairman Jin's wife.

Pardon?

What is she if she's not officially his wife?

No...

That must be Taejin.

You drank again?

This is why a man must meet the right woman.

You're getting more distraught because

you're with someone with so much baggage.

Good night.

Did you and Officer Moo break up?

Would that please you?

Excuse me?

What is it about Moo Gunghwa you dislike so much?

Is that a rhetorical question?

It pained me just watching you

tormented and agonizing

over Ms. Oh.

That's why I only thought about your happiness.

But you seem to be different from me.

So what if she has a daughter?

So what?

What will people say?

Is saving face that important to you?

I'm telling you

I won't be happy unless I'm with her, but is getting

a daughter-in-law you like more important to you?

How dare you!

Like you said, let's give some serious thought to

whether we should be together.

We're back.

Welcome back.

Was that really necessary?

What?

She said she didn't know.

So not knowing always gets a free pass?

My goodness. What's the matter?

There was a karaoke machine in a restaurant...

That's illegal.

It violates the Food Sanitation Act.

That's true,

but she only just took over the restaurant

and didn't know as the machine was already there.

But there's no end to going easy on ignorance.

That's true,

but the situation she's in is so unfortunate.

Her husband was in an accident, so she couldn't

open the restaurant until yesterday.

Couldn't you give someone like her some slack?

Why be so harsh...

Officer Moo, come with me.

Wow. I haven't heard that in a while.

Officer Moo, come with me.

You don't say.

Come with me.

Officer Moo's come a long way.

She even talks back to Inspector Cha now.

Don't things seem rocky between them?

Right.

I wonder if something's up.

You're back to square one again.

Don't you know what you did wrong?

No, I don't.

Isn't it our job too as police officers

to listen to what happened to her?

She said she didn't know,

so can't you let her off the hook?

Must you be so heartless?

I told you not put emotions first.

You know I'm an emotional person.

Let me make this clear...

Okay, fine.

I slipped up again in front you.

Moo Gunghwa!

Sir, Inspector Lee's looking for you.

Oh, okay.

Officer Moo,

did you and Inspector Cha fight?

Yes, we did.

Why?

People in relationships sometimes fight.

You sure have come a long way.

You must think you can

disrespect your superior because you're dating.

Senior Officer Jang.

Don't you know this only makes him look bad?

Yes. Sure you can fight.

But this is a police station.

If you must fight, take it elsewhere.

I'm giving you sound advice as a colleague.

I'm sorry.

You'll have to keep your guard up.

Inspector Cha is an exacting person.

You know when people like him break up,

they break up for good, right?

Thank you for your concern.

I really should be careful.

They even got men on him now?

I'm here to see Mr. Moo Suhyeok.

Is he out?

I don't know.

He didn't run away somewhere, did he?

You people must really be scared of Suhyeok.

Causing a scene here wasn't enough,

so you're now trying to tail him.

When Mr. Moo gets back,

tell him he'd better not do anything stupid.

Don't waste your energy.

Do you think you'll be able to find Bora?

I bet Suhyeok will find her first.

You don't seem to know her as well as Suhyeok does.

Who knows?

He might already be with her.

What?

It seems as though Bora's with Moo Suhyeok.

Are you serious?

I'm not sure,

but Moo Suhyeok wasn't in his office.

They'll get it from me...

What?

Why'd you say that?

I was just so angry.

There are guys that look like thugs outside too.

They won't do anything to Suhyeok, right?

Okay.

I'll call you later.

Call me immediately if anything happens.

Who's banging on the door like that?

Yes, coming.

Good heavens!

Why are you here?

Where is your son?

Excuse me.

Where is that punk?

That punk?

How dare you call my son a punk?

Who do you think you are?

Where is that punk?

I don't know, so please leave.

Get out of our house right now.

How dare you come here and cause a scene?

Cause a scene?

Do I have to teach you a lesson?

Your son has goaded my Bora into...

You appear to be completely mistaken.

Your daughter proposed,

and my son said no!

W-What?

So go find your daughter and

keep her in line

instead of taking it out on the wrong people!

Cocksure, aren't you? Very cocksure.

Because that childish Bora proposed to your son,

you must see a fortune dangling before you.

Not a chance!

That's what a money-grubber would think.

Watch it, lady!

You must not know how scary the world is, do you?

Who are you?

You'd better my mark my words.

Relay this to your son loud and clear.

If he so much as lays a finger on Bora,

I'll put and end to him.

Got it?

Who do you think you are?

Who are you to put an end to my son?

Please leave.

Who are you?

Get out of our house right now!

Who are you?

I'm Officer Moo Gunghwa.

South Korean police.

Don't you know barging into someone's home is illegal?

If you don't leave immediately,

I'll arrest you for trespassing.

Arrest me? You?

You don't think I will?

The police force exists to

stop lawbreakers.

So? Do you want to come with me?

Why, I oughta!

If you lay your hands on my kids again,

that'll be the end for both of us.

If you don't want any trouble,

you'd better take what I said to heart.

Got it, lady?

Mom. Mom, are you okay?

Are you okay?

Will water be enough?

Wait.

I'll go get you anti-anxiety medicine or something.

I'm fine.

No, you're not.

You're as pale as a ghost.

So why'd you let him in? Why?

You should've kept the door shut.

Who knew it was that jerk?

Suhyeok might be with Bora.

He hasn't called since

bolting out like that earlier.

What?

Hey, maybe they've been caught.

Then would Chairman Jin have caused a scene here?

He's riled up because he hasn't found them.

Based on what Suhyeok said,

I don't think we can stop him now.

But how will he manage?

Judging from how Chairman Jin was,

he won't let Suhyeok off the hook.

Geez. We need to know where he is

if we are to tell him to lie low for a while.

I think I might know.

Should I go?

Alone?

What if something happens?

No way.

What could possibly happen?

I'm a cop, Mom.

Regardless, no.

Don't even think about it.

Got it?

Did you find her?

What are you talking about?

Where did Dad go?

I'm going to go mental!

What is it? Did something happen?

Who is it?

I heard my father came by.

Ms. Lee.

I apologize on my dad's behalf

if he slipped up.

Slipped up?

That's quite an understatement

relative to what he did.

Please go.

I'm really very sorry.

I don't want your apology

nor do I want to see any of your family,

so please go.

Let's go.

Ms. Lee.

Chairman Jin really is something else.

I heard he slapped my brother,

and now he tried to hit me.

Man, this is maddening.

And your mother said all kinds of

offensive things to my mom,

denigrating my mom because she has more money.

What? Ms. Heo did?

So how could you think of coming to our house

knowing that your dad had caused such a scene?

I don't think I could've if I were you.

Do you think my mom would want to see you?

And your father put men near

my brother's office.

So they can

drag him away if he shows up?

And then what will they do to him?

I'm sorry.

Please let Chairman Jin know

to stop while I'm still being nice

or I'm really going to lose it.

How did your boss find out?

Right?

Given that he pulled you aside and

told you not to be stupid, maybe he found out

we're looking for dirt on Chairman Jin.

Man. Did we rush into this?

Truth is, a couple of thugs barged into

my sister's restaurant recently.

What?

They ransacked the place and then disappeared.

Turns out they are in the private loan business.

Are you serious?

Sounds like you got a text.

Yes.

Haechan's in danger.

Hurry over to the park behind the kindergarten.

Hey!

You ignored our calls

and left the group chat.

I don't want to talk to you guys.

Who do you think you are?

Loser.

Move so I can go.

Go ahead if you can.

Go ahead!

What do you think you're doing?

Let's go. That's enough.

Who are you?

Are you kidding me?

I think you guys should know

that I'm a police officer.

What took you so long?

Sorry.

Are you okay?

Yes, Uncle Taejin.

How did a kid like him join the group?

His parents could afford the lessons,

so I thought he'd be alright, but alas.

Please mind what you say.

Why should I do that?

Find out for yourself.

They're all top or second in class.

He's the problem.

What do grades have to do with this?

Haechan. Haechan.

Haechan. What happened to you?

Are you badly hurt?

Are you okay?

Did you boys do this to Haechan?

No one did anything to anyone.

It was probably a mutual scuffle.

Are you serious?

When my kid's banged up like this?

He's not the only victim.

Our kids are bigger victims,

okay?

They were losing precious time

because some low-performing kid joined,

so of course they got angry.

How is that an excuse to beat him up?

Who says our kids did?

How dare you!

I do.

Can't you see my cut lip?

I understand you want to trust your children,

but please mind what you say.

They may do well in school,

but their behavior wasn't exemplary.

Do you know

what you're doing won't resolve this?

Now, now. This won't do.

Separate the students into victims and offenders

and get their statements. Move.

That's enough. Please come this way.

We can talk over here.

Come on.

What's wrong with those people?

Their lack of conscience is appalling.

How can they not apologize

and act like that when

our precious son was beaten up?

Don't fret it.

We can do this by the law.

Are you okay?

Are you in pain?

If you are,

let me take you to the hospital.

We stopped by the hospital on our way back.

The doctor says it's not serious, so don't worry.

It's my fault.

I'm sorry.

Haechan...

Huijin.

My goodness. Haechan.

What happened to his arm?

Is he hurt?

What happened?

What in the world happened?

Just a kids' scuffle.

He's not seriously hurt,

so don't worry too much.

What is happening to this family?

Haechan, it's me.

Please open the door.

It's me.

Didn't I tell you to stop?

You didn't even pretend to listen to me.

Are you happy about what you've done to him?

What will you do about Haechan?

What will you do about our son?

Haechan, I'm sorry.

Now you're sorry?

I'm about to lose it too.

How could I have known this would happen?

I told you it seemed like a mistake!

I said something was wrong

and to look at his face.

How many times did I tell you?

Does what I say mean nothing to you?

Why?

Because I'm incompetent and can't earn a lot,

does what I say hold no value?

Is that why you ignored me?

I'm sorry. I said I'm sorry.

Right. Why should I blame you?

It's my fault for being incompetent.

Baekho.

Why are you crying

after getting our son hurt?

He's been desperately crying out for help.

What good will it do you

as his mom to force him to do well in school?

Turn him into a monster like those kids earlier?

I want our son to grow up decent

even if he doesn't do well in school.

How could I have known this would happen?

This is maddening for me too.

So why are you making it worse?

What do you want me to do?

Hands off my son from now on.

If you force him to do anything again,

I won't hold back anymore.

Got it?

Stop staring at me.

Why can't I stare at my new bride?

How cheesy.

You can't get enough of me,

so how'd you endure all this time?

Don't you dare disappear on me again.

Were you that worried?

I thought I was going to die.

Really?

Were you so worried your heart almost exploded?

Happy about that?

Yes.

But it's nothing compared to

my emotional distress.

Don't you dare tell me to go away again either.

Then I'll really disappear for good.

This is nice.

It's vending machine coffee.

Anything tastes good

when you have it with the person you love.

Should we not return to Seoul

and just live here?

Together?

Yes, of course.

Because you're mine now.

Aren't you being too shameless?

How about it?

Wouldn't it be nice to live here and run a cafe?

Why?

Are you scared about returning to Seoul?

It'd be fine if it were just me,

but I'm not sure you could handle it.

What do you take your hubby for?

Let's get our marriage license first when we return.

Huh?

Whatever happens,

I don't care anymore.

You don't either, right?

Hey, what happened?

Why was your phone off?

Where are you right now?

Did you find Bora?

We're getting married tomorrow.

You and Juyeong can be our witnesses, right?

I'll tell you more when we return.

Hey!

Suhyeok! Suhyeok!

Um...

Are you free today?

I have to go to Gangwon-do.

What for?

Suhyeok's there right now and

he says he's getting married tomorrow.

I want to know what's going on,

and I'm also worried if something happened.

It's our off day tomorrow,

so I want to go see him.

Could you drive me there?

And let's talk on the way.

I have something to say to you.

What are you talking about?

They said he wasn't at his office,

so I went to his house.

Wow. His mother shamelessly got in my face.

Good grief.

Daegap.

And his daughter was just like her.

You saw Ms. Lee's daughter?

Dad, what did you go and say to them?

I told them I'd send him to an early grave

if he did anything stupid, okay?

And when I did, that nobody of a cop daughter

went off on me about trespassing and whatnot...

So why'd you have to go there?

Why are you yelling, you little twerp?

Did I go somewhere I shouldn't have?

Man, this is really maddening!

Geez. What's with that twerp?

Good grief.

It's me.

You found Bora?

Where?

It's about Haechan's grades.

What do we do if he stays that way?

Your son's a mess right now.

His heart is broken, okay? His heart.

Is she out to see her old man collapse?

There must be a young couple staying here.

Cha Taejin.

I'll crush him no matter what it takes.

Compulsory transfer?

I'm sorry, sir.

Senior Inspector Hwang will catch on.

What will you do?

You said you liked Gunghwa because she's brave.

Why don't you be brave too?

Let's stay together.

Donald Trump Is Killing White America | The NFL - Duration: 5:37.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Donald Trump is killing White America.

I should probably clarify what I mean.

Despite my deep-seated racism I'm not talking about White Genocide or something ridiculous

like that.

I'm talking about the death of a certain mid-20th Century version of white identity.

I think this is a good thing.

Identities are constantly changing.

Being a "White American" means something very different from century to century, and

even from decade to decade.

We may be ready for a new set of identities in the United States, hopefully ones that

have more to do with the content of our character than the color of our skins.

Donald Trump destroys whatever he touches, and this week it's the National Football

League.

People have tons of theories for the decline in NFL viewership and profit.

Some say it's concerns about brain injury.

Trump claims that it's because of Colin Kaepernick's tendency to take a knee during

the US National anthem to protest the oppression of African Americans.

All these theories ignore the fact that it's the 20th century business model that hurts

the NFL more than anything else.

In 21st century America, there are fewer and fewer things that require you to sit down

at a certain time and watch something for three hours, while being force fed ads.

Everything's on Demand Now.

It's surprising the NFL has lasted this long in its current form honestly.

Until Friday Evening, it looked like the NFL had survived the national anthem controversy.

Kaepernick was not signed to a team this year, and the other protests had been fading away.

The NFL owners had already done what Trump requested on Friday, and American Football

was once again becoming safe for white fragility.

Until Friday Night.

SON OF A BITCH Trump brought the controversy roaring back,

and it's quite possible that this time it will do serious damage to the NFL.

Instead of two or three athletes, we've now got whole teams skipping the national

anthem.

Trump has imposed real costs on the NFL owners, all but one of whom is white.

As aging plutocrats the owners are also very natural Trump supporters.

Or at least they used to be.

Turning the NFL into an arena for race politics isn't good for business.

Despite the race of 80% of the players, the NFL's audience is 83% white and skews heavily

Republican.

A Trumpkin boycott could seriously damage the NFL, a very old school white America institution.

The President's influence on the Confederate statue issue has been just as bad for old

school white America.

The parks of many Southern cities feature statues of generals from the losing side of

the US civil war.

This controversy had been brewing for a while.

I kind of liked Baltimore's approach.

They kept the Statues, but put up plaques documenting how they were symbols of white

supremacy.

Which they absolutely are.

A month or so back Donald Trump weighed in.

Beautiful Statues.

So how did that go?

The statues are quickly coming down across the country, Baltimore included.

Do you see a trend here?

I still believe that Trump's election had a lot to do with economic insecurity, and

that it would never have happened if the Democrats had picked a halfway decent candidate.

But it's getting harder to ignore the fact that his most solid support comes from Trump's

loud advocacy of an outmoded vision of White America.

Ta-Nehisi Coates has famously called Trump America's First white President.

While I don't agree with all of Coates's critique I think that's probably right.

I think Trump is America's First White President.

I also think he's the last.

From the NFL, to the Southern Statues to coal mining, Trump is presiding over the last gasp

of older whiter ideas and institutions in the United States.

Trump is actually accelerating the demise of these ideas and institutions.

Conservatives held their nose and voted for Trump because they thought he'd be able

to enact their agenda.

How's that going?

Though I consider myself a conservative it's hard to deny that the Republican party forwards

an agenda that's better for Wealthier White Americans.

Trump's disastrous failure to lead has actually managed to drive up sympathy for ideas like

socialized medicine.

In this arena too, Trump is over-seeing the death of old ideas, not their resurgence.

Trump isn't making His White America Great Again, he is speeding up its end.

Korea to expand playground for all children - Duration: 4:31.

The playground.

A place where time fly by as children interact and make new friends while having fun.

Unbeknownst to many of us, the common recreational features are unreachable to some.

On our news feature tonight Lee Unshin introduces to us a new wave of playgrounds that are more

inclusive, catering to the needs of kids of all abilities.

From the 1st grade to the 12th,... students at Myunghyun school are thrilled.

An outdoor playground with a sandbox, a swing, and spring rides... has arrived at last.

(Korean) "For outside activities, we take the students

hiking on the nearby mountain so they can build up their strength, or go to museums

or art centers.

But I'm so happy there's now an outdoor play area for them right here."

The school provides special education for kids with learning difficulties.

Most of some 120 students here have neuro-developmental difficulties... but there are a few who carry

physical disabilities... and for them, enjoying the rides won't be the same as it is for their

friends.

(Korean) "It breaks my heart that the students who

are in wheelchairs or walkers can't quite use the standard swings or slides like the

others."

For many, a playground is something that they grew up with, an adult-free zone to meet new

friends and play outdoor games,... and it's often taken for granted.

(Korean) "For any kid, to play is to live.

A playground is a necessary place for their social, emotional, and cognitive growth, along

with physical and coordination development through the equipment."

For that reason, Children's Grand Park in Seoul has opened a playground that's designed

for kids of all abilities to enjoy.

(standup) At a glance, this playground isn't that different

from any other one.

But when you look closely you'll notice small details, such as this wide open pathway instead

of stairs, leading up to the slide, so any child can either walk or climb up in a wheelchair.

The slide is wide enough for an adult and a child to ride down together.

There's a merry-go-round with a corner to secure a wheelchair,... basket swings that

are spacious enough to get on lying down... and a sandbox with a place for kids in a wheelchair

to come in and play.

(Korean) "This playground was built through extensive

research and lots of trial and error.

As a result its features are very safe and kids really seem to enjoy themselves here.

This is what a playground should look like, companies came here to benchmark the model.

But coming to the park can be quite a hassle, especially for those who have physical disabilities

who come here by car."

The lack of THIS kind of kid-friendly space across the nation is linked to legal matters.

Korea's anti-discrimination act for persons with disabilities and children's safety regulations,

don't specify anything about playground features for kids with disabilities.

Legal guidelines to deal with accidents or insurance problems are needed for such equipment

to be made.

(Korean) "This is long overdue by lawmakers.

So I proposed a modification act to take care of any incomplete legal or regulatory matters,

so that any child, handicapped or not, gets to enjoy the playground.

"

Kim's proposal includes providing support for the production of recreational equipment

for kids with special needs,... with the required budget backed by the government.

Something that various institutes, including Myunghyun school, have long waited for.

(Korean) "To purchase such equipment, schools, especially

private ones like ours are often met with budget issues.

If the government can appoint companies to manufacture them it will bring down prices."

So that no child is left out of the joy of playing outside.

The move is expected to lead to more inclusive recreational grounds like the one at Children's

Grand Park,... an area for all kids to just enjoy being a kid.

(Korean) "When working on the design of the playground,

I made sure the features are feasible for them, but at the same time just as enjoyable

for others.

And I wanted to highlight how adjusting small things from the conventional playground can

accommodate all children, abled or disabled."

Lee Unshin Arirang News.
