yesterday is warm sunny weather followed us to our first sea day. I just snuck out

the secret backdoor to enjoy my morning coffee by the terrace pool and to take

in the gorgeous wake view

good morning so I am making my way from Deck 13 or 12 or something like that fist

there's no Deck 13 on a ship down to Deck 7 which is the Vista lounge for the

zumba class well my boys are still sleeping

breakfast was nice it's sunny a beautiful outside and I'm just exploring

the ship I'm gonna go get some morning exercise okay I found the Vista lounge

let's go see how crowd is on day one for zumba everybody's are really awake yet

oh yeah it's happening

all right I just wanna give everybody an idea of how crowded it gets in the

atrium area on a sea day standing in line for the British pub lunch which is in the

Crown Grill over there and there's like the t-shirts sale behind us and a lot of

people in line and everybody's just kind of congregating inside even though it's

really beautiful outside so we'll show you the British pub lunch experience

when we get inside the crown girl it's 11:45 and it opens a few and right now

the line is probably about 50 feet deep so hopefully we'll get a table and show

you guys the experience something I've always wanted to try

the line moved really fast for the pub lunch so we're seated in the crown drill

and the kitchen is right behind us as you can hear and see this is actually a

much bigger venue inside the Crown Grill than I expected there's a lot of room

for everybody but they have a really limited menu

which is probably better since it's like a specialty thing this is complementary

by the way and this is the menu so as you can see they have fish and chips

bangers and mash steak and kidney pie and a ploughman's lunch which I guess is

kind of a sandwich and bread in the butter pudding I don't really know what

that is so basically we just ordered one of every entree so we could try it out

and show it to you guys hopefully it will be pretty nice and tasty but the

service was really prompt we've got a couple sorts so does order and we'll see

what the experience is like

no Princess cruise is complete without afternoon tea we're totally enjoying our

3:30 tradition here in the maybe da Vinci dining room.

it's been wonderful service wonderful timing sandwiches cookies scones with

cream two thumbs up tea was awesome and now we're gonna go see if we get on one

of the hot tubs the very very very high reaches the a petition but by the way

this is the awesomest secret exit to the pool deck ever so if you look down this

whole room which we're not doing this is like what do you finally make you some

time to hit the hot tubs and we're in the covered pool area right now it's

just really pretty but unfortunately I

saw them painting yesterday not sure what they're doing so we're just

enjoying the hot tubs which are open pretty much all over the ship

nice and warm and toasty in here we had a great time at tea it's been a really

nice relaxing day super surprised that it's so sunny and warm out there's

actually people sunbathing on the ship which is really funny so we're gonna

enjoy some hot tub time and relax a little bit before we go to the

the Platinum lounge and did her a little bit later all right this is how we get

back to our room. I'm gonna flip the camera

hey guys welcome to the club one five we're back at the little Platinum lounge

back here enjoying it gorgeous tonight it is about 6:45 dinners in 15 minutes

and my drink of the day today is a is it a deep-sea martini something like that a

deep-sea martini anyway I thought it was pretty soda refreshing and we're gonna

give it a taste

okay that's super good it's really really strong but yet sweet at the same

time very delicious so anyway it's been a fun day wonderful day at sea boat is

really moving the ship is really moving you could start to feel the motion I

still cannot believe how incredibly warm the weather is we just went out back and

we're taking some photos and I wasn't even chilled with a bear legs and a

dress it's crazy but anyway heading off to dinner soon and we'll see you there

so last night in the craziness of embarkation we forgot to show you our

dinner experience so tonight we wanted to give you a little general idea of

where we're sitting in the dining room or table number 64 in the Michelangelo

dining room which is on the deck 5 kind of in the middle of the ship little

tricky to find but it's right off of the Piazza and we have what we've done is we

have a standing reservation in the anytime dining room for seven o'clock we

gave up our early dining time of 5:30 and in exchange they were willing to

give us this little beautiful table with a gorgeous view of the ocean you guys so

pretty you can see the Whitecaps probably a little bit behind me tonight

we are really enjoying our dining room servers our dining room server needs to

work on Disney Cruise Line so he's very good with kids

so good with kids that he lifts my son into his booster seat and he chops up

his spaghetti and like every mom bone in me is tingling like jump up and cut up a

spoon and get him ready but he's doing everything it's really amazing it's name

is Jessie and he's so sweet so we're having a wonderful relaxing experience

starting to really relax into the cruise and tonight we're ordering all kinds of

yummy entrees if we don't show them to you tonight we will definitely show them

to you in our food slideshow later on just stumbled outside of the dining room

and into the Piazza and it's so beautiful

this time of night every kind of quietly gathers here and does their own thing

some people are stopping and getting wine is the vines bar there's people

eating at Alfredo's pizzeria listening to music just kind of walking around

it's really mellow and just a comfortable place to be so we're going

to show you a few shots around the piazza real quick

okay so now we are in about the candy area of the gift shop but tons of other

and crazy candies and stuff like that as you can see but it isn't just all shirts

but actually this is cool and then there's stuff like this

all kinds of crazy candies, and eh, monkeys and stuff! All right we're calling it a night a wonderful

dinner room yeah take a nice walk around the very breezy and chilly promenade

deck I take it back it is now cold but it's refreshing and wonderful and now we

are going to say good night tomorrow is our second C day and the day

after that is our first port day which is Ketchikan we're really excited so

tomorrow we'll probably be getting ready for our zip lining and bear adventure in

Ketchikan see you then

2D to 3D Projection mapping Tutorial for Adobe After Effects - Duration: 13:33.

Hey Guys, Flat Pack FX here and in this tutorial I'm going to show you how

to take your 2d images and make this 3d parallax effect so stick around you're

watching Flat Pack FX. Hey guys welcome back to the tutorial now in this

tutorial I'm going to show you how to make this effect called 3d projection

mapping now simply put this effect allows you to take a 2d image and make

it appear to be three-dimensional now this is an intermediate-to-advanced

effect so if you're new to After Effects I really recommend that you watch

through this video a few times and just carefully follow the steps to make sure

you don't miss anything now also in this example you can

obviously use your own images but I've supplied two images here that I got from

online and I've put links in the description below if you want to use

those same images now just two very quick things when you're choosing your

images this effect works best when we're looking at some sort of tunnel street or

alley way now it doesn't mean this effect won't work for other images it's

just that you will get the best results if you have an image that is of some

sort of tunnel alright so the first thing we want to do is create a new

composition it's gonna call my effect I'm gonna make sure this is set to 1080

25 square pixels and roughly about 30 seconds in length now the first thing I

want to do is just drag my image straight into this composition and I'll

need to resize it so it fits my composition now there's four parts to

our projector there's the camera which is our eyes there's the light source

which is going to be our torch there's our image which could be our hand and

then we have our surface that we're projecting onto which is our wall now we

need to create each one of those so the next part is we're going to create the

camera so I'm just gonna right click and create a new camera I want to set this

to be 28 millimeters and then hit OK and then I also want to create the first

layer so we've got four distinctive layers here that we're going to project

our image onto we've got the ground plane we've got the ceiling and then

we've got these two side planes so we need to recreate the

inside of After Effects so the first thing is I'm going to right-click and

create a solid just gonna set this as default a white layer and then hit OK

then I'm gonna come up to effect down to generate and I want to add this grid

effect and that's just going to make it a bit easier to see what we're doing

here now the first part of this is I need to make it a 3d layer now we need

to rotate this layer so that matches our ground plane as best we can so we do

this by going to the rotation tool and I rotate this layer like this then I can

move this into position and I can continue to adjust this layer and scale

it as well so that it fits our ground plane as close as we can possibly get it

so something like that now next I need to adjust the material options of this

layer so I can navigate down to the material options and I need to make sure

the car shadows is set to OFF the light transmission is zero except shadows is

on and except lights is off so this is really important that these are set to

these specifications now once I've got that all I need to do is take that layer

I can duplicate it I'm just gonna simply use my Z property just to move it up

towards the ceiling so it lines up nicely with our edge here so something

like that next I can take one of those layers again I can duplicate them and

this time I'm going to use my rotation tool on the y-axis to move them up into

a vertical position and then I can adjust them using my z-axis here so that

they line up with the edges here and then I can reposition this by scaling it

and then shifting it around until basically these edges all line up so you

can see what we're doing here we're basically creating a square so I can do

some very slight adjustments here and then I want to take that layer again and

I duplicate it and all I need to do is just move it over using the z-axis and

just do the same thing again I just reposition it here until it roughly

lines up with my edges here that doesn't have to be perfect but as long as these

sort of gaps here are all sort of closed that's all we need you can see it's

already created that illusion of being a tunnel we've created almost a

three-dimensional tunnel inside of After Effects now the last part is I'm just

gonna create an end plane so I'm going to duplicate this one last time I'm

gonna rotate this layer so that it's flat I'm just gonna simply move this one

into the distance and then just reposition it because best I can there

now it's worth at this stage just taking the time to get it as accurate as you

possibly can but you can adjust this later so don't worry too much if it

doesn't all line up at this point now the other thing we can do here is just

to check how this box is all lining up if I go to my camera tool I can actually

just rotate this box around now I can actually just move this out and you'll

start to see that we can see this box in a three-dimensional space so you can see

that my end layer is not lined up the rest of my planes I can just simply drag

this one back here and grab this layer and move it closer to my grid and then I

can just reposition this here I'm also just gonna rotate this one slightly back

into place I understand this may be quite difficult for some of you if you

haven't worked with any sort of 3d program or you have trouble imagining a

three-dimensional space but it can be done it's just a matter of slowly

working through it and moving each layer a small bit at a time until you end up

with everything in the in the correct position now I can see here that this

layer will need to come closer just to help close that gap once you think

you've finished your box I can just reset my camera here and then just make

any final adjustments that I need so that we're as close to that edge as

possible now bit of overlaps okay it's just that we need to have all the edges

sealed up now once we've got this in the position that we're happy with now we

can now we're ready to actually remove these grids so I'm gonna select those

white solids and I'm just gonna tap this FX button to remove the actual grev so

we end up with our white planes again and then the last part of this is I'm

going to create the light so I'm gonna right click and create a new light and

it's very important that I set this to be spot I need this to be 100% intensity

and in my cone angle to be a hundred and eighty degrees and my cone feather

I need set to zero now most important I need the color of the light source to be

white and I need this to be car shadows to be on the other thing I can adjust

here is the shadow darkness to be a hundred percent which is important and

then hit okay now at the moment we can't actually see anything and that's because

we need to actually position all of our elements in the right place so I'm going

to go to this button here to go to the to view horizontal and the view on on

the right hand side is what our camera sees and the view on the left is our

scene played out from above so from a bird's eye view now we want everything

to line up with our cameras position so if I hit my camera layer and hit P on

the keyboard I can actually copy this position property here and I can paste

it onto my light source and that's moved our lights in line with our camera and

I'm also going to do the same with this layer here after I turn on the 3d layer

again so I'm gonna make it a 3d layer and I'm going to paste position property

onto that layer and that's moved that layer in line with our camera and

actually need it to sit in front of the camera so I'm gonna move move it out so

it's it's away from the camera so we end up with a gap that's our image and

that's our camera layer there so we need a bit of a gap there and then we need to

scale our image back down so I go down to my scale property by hitting S on the

keyboard and I'm gonna scale this right down now you will need to scale this

down to probably around 1% or so and then you can readjust the final scale so

that it fills the edge of your screen where you roughly had it before at the

moment mines really blurry the reason for this is because I have depth the

field turned on to my camera layer and come down to the camera options and I

can just turn off depth of field and then make the final adjustment here just

to fill the edge of my screen now I'm just gonna go back to my original one

view so I can see what I'm doing now at the moment looks exactly the way we had

it before but we have to do one last thing to our scene here which is adjust

the material options for our projector a layer at the

moment is not transparent so when the light hits it the light's not actually

passing through onto our background layer so we need to make it transparent

so the light can shine through this layer and project it onto our background

so we go down to the material options for your image and we need to change the

car shadows from off to only so if I click it once it goes to on if I click

it twice it goes to only and then we need to adjust the light transmission

from 0 to 100 and there you go so image has now reappeared now again it

looks exactly the same as we had before but if I go to my camera tool and just

simply pan around our scene you can see the big difference you can see that it's

actually now turned it into a three-dimensional scene I can actually

turn all the way out here and it will change the perspective that I'm looking

so if I wanted to do a simple camera move here I'm gonna set a keyframe for

my position and point of interest I'm going to go to my camera Z track tool

and go across to roughly about 5 seconds here and just do a simple dolly movement

in and if I played through that you can see straight away the difference that

this effect has created you can see it actually looks like the camera is

traveling down the tunnel now you can also do some other interesting things

here by using the different camera tools I can move the camera closer to the

ground here and as my camera moves towards down the tunnel I could move the

camera over to this side of the wall and then I could rotate the perspective so

it looks so we've got a bit more of a dynamic camera movement going on here

there really shows how this effect is working so you can see the difference

that we've got there now you can see we're actually getting this line appear

right on the edge here and that is where the box doesn't line up with this side

of the box as well so what you need to do is you just need to scale this up

slightly and that's just gonna fill that edge again so

just where the two layers aren't connecting so you just need to look out

for those and then make your adjustments as you go now that is one way to create

this effect and it can get a little bit complicated but the key is just slowly

work away and follow those steps very carefully and eventually you'll get

there now here's another composition that I

prepared of a road and again I followed the same principle that I've just shown

you here in this previous one but in this case I'm using two planes instead

of four so I deleted the sidewalls and then I went back to using my floor plane

and my ceiling plane and it ends up having the exact same effect now you can

take the same principle and apply it to a wide variety of different images and

you can also take this effect to a very advanced level where you can actually

create your own custom planes by masking a layer and then projecting your image

over the top of that now at the moment I'm just trying to keep things simple

for you and easy to follow so there you go guys there's an introduction to

camera and projection mapping inside of After Effects

SCUF Impact Review – Double the Power, Double the Fun - Duration: 4:40.

This is Mack, for Pixel Enemy, here with a review of the SCUF Impact PlayStation 4 controller.

SCUF has continued to push the envelope when it comes to custom PS4 pads.

This year's evolution takes the form of the company's flagship "SCUF Impact",

a controller that has gone through a cosmetic redesign to allow for more features to be

added.

Prior to the Impact, SCUF's PS4 range only allowed for two paddles on the rear.

With the Impact's additional space however, four paddles can fit comfortably.

This means even more functions can be mapped to the back of the pad, making it easy to

jump, crouch, stab, reload, change weapons, and more -- all without having to take your

thumbs off the analog sticks.

Paddles have always been the main attraction when it comes to SCUF, as they give a proven

advantage in shooters.

I'm showing Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 here, in which you have to control the exo-suit

movement while trying to aim and shoot.

This is similar to the gameplay found in the newly-released Destiny 2, which sees players

double and triple jumping around, all the while trying to aim accurately.

However, even in boots-on-ground games, the paddles have their uses.

Jumping around corners while turning to aim is still useful, and it's always nice to

have a quick melee or drop shot at the ready.

SCUF is number one when it comes to the controllers eSports players use.

And though I'm no competitive gamer, I still like to have every advantage I can get.

Over the years, SCUF controllers have granted me thousands of kills and saved me from thousands

of deaths.

When I started playing with the SCUF Impact, I only really used two of the four paddles

-- X to jump and O to melee -- since that was what I was used to.

However, after using the Electro Magnetic Remapping tool that allows you to swap the

paddles' functions, I found that the additional third and fourth paddles came in handy, as

you can assign not only X, O, Triangle, and Square to them, but also Left, Right, Up,

Down on the D-Pad, and L3 and R3.

This ability to tweak the SCUF Impact after purchase, keeping it useful and futureproof,

is a trait that's also found in other aspects of the pad.

Though I've never had problems myself, I have read a bunch of horror stories about

SCUF paddles breaking, or analog sticks wearing out.

Happily, the SCUF Impact embraces modularity, with the paddles, analog sticks, trigger covers,

and D-pad control disk all fully removable and replaceable.

This adds a little peace of mind on top of the usual SCUF 90-day warranty period for

controllers, and 12-month warranty for broken paddles.

I feel it's important to mention warranty when it comes to items like these, as it is

a premium controller that rocks a pretty premium price tag.

In the US, you'll be looking at a starting price of $139.95 (without shipping costs included).

So, again, it's good that the SCUF Impact has gone modular with a lot of its features,

as that should provide a nice boost to the lifespan of what is an expensive product.

Another feature unique to the SCUF Impact is the "Cable Retention System", which

when combined with SCUF's own braided USB cable, is pretty damn tough to pull out.

This keeps things secure, and unlike standard micro USB, is less likely to wear out and

stop working or snap, even.

SCUF Gaming is also using the new DualShock 4 controllers for their pads, so yes, that

USB connection is low latency, and there's a lightbar on the front as well.

Also worthy of mention is the trigger system, which allows you to tweak the initial activation

and reset time.

An internal part that you tune by inserting a wire and turning adjusts the time that games

take to recognize your input, and the external trigger stops prevent the trigger from descending

too far.

These work together primarily to make for a quicker semi-automatic fire rate.

So, if you're forced to switch to your pistol, you can surprise the enemy by firing it extremely

quickly!

Though I've had a couple of issues with the trigger stops falling out with previous

controllers, and needing to put clicked back in, the ones on this pad seem solid.

Overall, I think the SCUF Impact is a fantastic controller.

It's awesome to see SCUF take a bold risk and combine DualShock 4 functionality with

the ergonomics of an Xbox One pad.

The only nitpick I have here, once you've swallowed the price -- which is basically

just SCUF charging the most for the best product -- is the little headphone cut-out.

I get why it's there, but it'd be nice to have a little insertable cover for when

it's not in use.

This would smoothen out the look and keep it totally pristine.

If you're wanting to take your console game to the next level, the SCUF Impact is my number

one choice.

Of course, it also works with PC!

With the modularity considered, I think the price is now worth it.

However, if it's still hard to justify the purchase, do check out the "Send in Service"

which allows you to send SCUF your own pad and have them pimp it out at a reduced price.

September 2017 Trailers That'll Blow You Away - Duration: 7:17.

The September box office got a nice shot in the arm thanks to the newest adaptation of

Stephen King's It.

Meanwhile, movie fans also got some exciting new previews for what's to come in the near

future.

From exciting thrillers to clever comedies, here are the most promising trailers of the

month of September.

The Snowman

The Snowman already had one riveting preview, but the international trailer offers even

more exciting glimpses at the mystery thriller.

The film follows Harry Hole, a man tasked with hunting down the elusive "Snowman Killer"

who leaves the childhood playthings as a way to mark his victims.

And thanks to this new autumn look at the wintry movie, it's clear that the killer is

playing some serious mind games with everyone, including reporting his next victim as missing

before he actually abducts her just to make things even more grisly.

This diabolical move proves the Snowman killer is even more twisted than ordinary serial

murderers.

Winter is about to come terrifyingly early on October 20th when this movie lands in theaters.

Tragedy Girls

Social media obsession gets taken to a deadly new level in the trailer for the comedy thriller

Tragedy Girls.

The movie features two teens who decide to become crime reporters in an effort to boost

their social media influence.

However, they quickly decide that the best way to stay on top of the news is to create

it themselves.

You know what comes next — the pair to murder their classmates, kicking off with a big time

social media influencer.

The girls take well to their newfound fame, and they get more and more invested in their

killings and the likes that come along with them.

Count on this one to make you re-think your digital game starting October 20th.

A Bad Moms Christmas

This sequel to Bad Moms will bring back our trio of mothers as they take back the holidays

from the world's tough expectations.

The one problem?

They'll also have to contend with their own mothers, who've dropped in to spread some

Holiday jeers.

Moms don't have joy they give joy."

The trailer is full of dirty hijinks, including a Santa Claus stripper, so prepare for some

naughty list-style fun this season.

A Bad Moms Christmas lands in theaters November 3rd.

Thelma

The Norwegian supernatural thriller Thelma centers on a new college student who comes

to discover she has supernatural powers she can't explain.

That might seem like a nice alternative to gaining the freshman fifteen, but from the

looks of this trailer, those powers will become terrifying rather than thrilling.

This art house horror flick will hit theaters on November 10th, just in time for a distraction

from finals.

Cook Off!

A movie many, many years in the making, Melissa McCarthy's mockumentary Cook Off! was filmed

way, way back in 2006, before the actress broke out with her Academy Award-nominated

performance in Bridesmaids.

With McCarthy's huge star power, the shelved film was brought back from the dead and reportedly

re-edited.

Featuring McCarthy as one of the many competitors in a cooking competition at a local hotel,

the film promises lots of lunacy and delicious treats when it finally hits theaters on November

17th.

All the Money in the World

Ridley Scott investigate one of the world's most famous kidnappings in the first trailer

for his upcoming action drama All the Money in the World.

The movie follows the 1973 abduction of John Paul Getty III, the grandson of the richest

man in the world.

The movie focuses on the desperate actions that his mother Gail has to undergo in order

to get him back when her billionaire father-in-law is unwilling to cough up the cash to get his

grandson back.

The real-life drama here is ripe for the pickings, and it's exciting to see what Scott and his

all-star cast will do with the story when it lands in theaters December 8th.

The Shape of Water

The first trailer for Guillermo del Toro's The Shape of Water was exciting enough, but

this new red band preview is even more incredible.

This new glimpse of the otherworldly fairy tale shows just how feisty Elisa will be while

protecting the creature she loves.

Although she seemed stoic and innocent in the first glimpse we saw of the movie, this

new trailer proves Elisa isn't afraid to get her hands dirty on behalf of her blue lagoon-style

pal.

Considering critics are already hailing this film, it's clear The Shape of Water will be

a must-see on its December 8th release.

The Disaster Artist

The first trailer for The Disaster Artist focused on just one familiar moment from The

Room.

But this new teaser about the making of the worst movie in the world further explores

the relationship between Tommy Wiseau and his co-star Greg Sestero, played by real-life

brothers James and Dave Franco.

"Stellaaaa"

Count on this movie to be a lot better than the one it's chronicling when The Disaster

Artist breaks into theaters on December 8th.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle

The new trailer for Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle proves that sometimes sequels might

not be such a terrible idea.

This new look at the film shows that none of the characters in the new game will take

to their avatar characters very well in the new virtual world.

With some laugh out loud moments and a clever reimagination of the original Jumanji, it

might just be worth it to roll the dice on Welcome to the Jungle when it arrives on-screen

December 20th.

Downsizing

Matt Damon might be a huge star, but he's hitting the small time for the upcoming comedy

Downsizing.

The film features him as a man who, alongside his wife, decides to commit to a new procedure

that shrinks people down until they're five inches tall.

Just wild."

Consider it a modern, satirical take on Honey I Shrunk the Kids.

Look for Downsizing to hit the big screen on December 22nd.

Red Sparrow

Jennifer Lawrence becomes a Russian femme fatale in the upcoming action-thriller Red

Sparrow.

She plays a ballerina who, after suffering a career-ending injury, turns to espionage

for a Russian intelligence agency and uses seduction, violence, and whatever other means

will be necessary to complete her missions … that is, until she meets an American CIA

operative who might test her loyalty to the Kremlin.

Considering today's political atmosphere, this movie will probably be pretty timely

when it bows into theaters on March 2nd.

Tomb Raider

Lara Croft has a new mission in the first trailer for Alicia Vikander's upcoming Tomb

Raider reboot.

The film features the Oscar winner as the adventurer as she sets off to find out what

happened to her father, who died while searching for a tomb located on a mythical Japanese

island.

The trailer hints that the film will draw heavily from the 10th installment in the game

franchise, which offered up a more complex take on the character than the releases that

inspired the Angelina Jolie-led movies.

Look for Lara Croft to raid the box office when the new movie lands in theaters on March

16th.

Hostiles

Christian Bale takes a trip back in time for the upcoming drama Hostiles, which features

him as an army captain tasked with bringing a sick Cheyenne war chief and his family back

to their tribal lands in 1892.

From the looks of this preview, Bale may be putting forward another award-winning performance

in this period drama, so keep your calendar open for when a release date is announced

for this historic film.

The Lodgers

The haunted house genre gets a gothic twist in the trailer for the upcoming horror flick

The Lodgers.

The movie features two orphaned twins who are forced to live in their parents' creepy

former home by a secret curse.

When a young man who's in love with the sister tries to free the pair, his actions set off

a deadly and terrifying reaction.

With chilling visuals and mysteries aplenty, this one is sure to draw out some scares when

it's released.

The Al Qaeda Myth | Yemen 4 | Everybody's Lying About Islam 22 - Duration: 8:00.

Hey there.

This is my fourth video on Yemen's disaster, and I haven't talked about Al Queda at all!

After studying Yemen for a number of months, that strikes me as about right.

If I was going to rank Yemen's greatest problems, Violent Jihadists would probably

come in somewhere around number 25.

But that's not how the US government sees it.

For the Bush and Obama administrations nothing mattered more in this country of almost 30

million than Al Queda.

Ali Abdullah Saleh, Yemen's Machiavellian president recognized this, and milked it for

all it was worth.

I maintain that Yemen's current disaster isn't entirely the fault of the United States.

Yemen has been a country of building pressures for decades.

But Our Al Queda obsession certainly didn't help.

As the most powerful country in the world we put our finger on the scale to make Yemen

just that little bit more screwed up.

And in doing so we may have turned the myth of a powerful and growing Al Queda in The

Arabian Pensinsual into a reality.

The most important factor in Yemen's relationship with violent Jihad is the country's poverty.

It's got a lot of people, and unlike the rest of the peninsula it doesn't have much

in the way of oil resources.

I've mentioned elsewhere the way that Saudi Arabia's hyper-development has hurt the

generally poorer countries of the Muslim World.

Poor countries across Africa and Asia have had their local interpretations of Islam crushed

by Saudi ideas.

Yemen's location, directly to the South of Saudi Arabia, sharing a long and porous

border, means that it has been harder hit than most.

From the establishment of the Republic in North Yemen, the Saudis had built Wahhabi

schools and Mosques.

The Saudis have made great progress with the Sunni population of Yemen, and a surprising

amount of progress with the Zaydi Shia as well, causing great resentment among Yemen's

traditional leaders.

The Houthi rebellion, for example, got started in 2004 as a response to the infiltration

of Wahhabi, Saudi ideology, and its indirect connection to the United States and Israel.

During the first flourishing of Violent Jihad in the 1980's Yemenis were over-represented.

The US-Saudi Jihad in Afghanistan presented a spiritual opportunity for Yemeni youth,

but the economic opportunity was probably just as important.

Saleh turned the returning Jihadists against more local communists, using them to win the

war against the South in 1994.

This history, combined with Yemen's general Wild West vibe made it a comfortable refuge

for Al-Queda.

The USS Cole bombing in Aden in October 2000 provided an early indication of this.

As we mentioned Last time, in 2001 Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh had a problem.

He had used oil revenues to build something that looked kind of like a Modern state.

But oil revenues were fading.

He needed a new source of income.

September 11th gave it to him.

Saleh didn't repeat his 1990 mistake, when he defied the international community to stay

loyal to Saddam Hussein.

In November 2001 he traveled to the United States to meet with Bush and Cheney and declare

conspicuous loyalty for the War on Terror.

He was well rewarded for his choice.

Saleh had already demonstrated his mastery of Yemeni politics, simply by surviving for

a couple decades.

But his playing of the United States as the oil ran out may be his masterpiece.

Throughout the Bush and first Obama administrations he used US weapons and money to secure his

power.

He built out large counter-terrorism forces controlled by his family members, that were

more often used against the Houthis and Southern Separatists than they were used against Al

Queda.

Saleh's regime should have ended with the decline of the oil money, or at least been

forced to change dramatically.

US Counter-Terrorism money probably gave Saleh another ten years of unaccountable power.

Saleh's actual efforts against Al-Queda militants have been heavily questioned in

the West.

He was reliant on Jihadi Rehabilitation programs of dubious merit, and "surrenders" and

"arrests" that look a lot more like promises to do better than actual punishments.

I think this criticism is merited but kind of misses the point.

Saleh wasn't really running a country.

He was running a negotiation.

The Yemeni government had used Jihadi ideology and money to shore up its power in the 1980s

and 1990s.

Much of Saleh's architecture of power was built on Saudi money and radicalism.

This Was very much in service to Saudi-US Anti-Communist objectives by the way.

It was more than a bit ridiculous to expect Saleh to turn around and ship many of his

major supporters to Guantanamo.

And it turns out that his approach was a lot more effective against Al Queda than the US

approach.

Despite all the Saudi money, and history of Jihad, there probably weren't all that many

Al Queda supporters before the acceleration of the drone war.

After the failed Underwear Bombing in the skies over Detroit in 2009, the US forced

Saleh to accept an accelerated program of drone strikes.

These strikes, which tend to take out large numbers of civilians and the occasional wedding

party have probably done more than anything else to recruit members to Al Queda.

The drone strikes certainly didn't help Saleh retain power.

His strategy of using US money to maintain his crumbling government finally fell apart

in 2011.

The Arab Spring brought people to the streets to protest his seemingly endless regime.

More importantly, resentment over the power given to Saleh's immediate family caused

the military to split.

Saleh agreed to give up power in November 2011, after surviving a rocket attack.

This led to a period of barely controlled chaos from 2011 to 2014, and not at all controlled

chaos from 2015 until today.

Saleh has teamed up with the Houthis against the Saudis and members of his old government.

It's a mess.

And this Chaos is great for Al Queda.

For year-long periods

they have managed to take over cities and surrounding territories in Provinces in

Southern Yemen.

They've been pushed out both times, but the Saudi supported government hasn't exactly

been interested in hunting them down.

That government has teamed up with the Jihadists on certain fronts.

In fact, the United States is now de facto allied with Al Queda, just as it was in Syria.

This is what we get for supporting the Saudi agenda.

Our blind focus on Al Queda in Yemen has been completely self-defeating.

Our drone war is Al Queda's best recruiting tool.

Our support for Saleh, long after everybody in the country was sick of him, contributed

to Yemen's fall into chaos.

It's this chaos more than anything else that keeps Al Queda in the Arabian Peninsula

going today.

Our ideas about Yemen have failed completely.

Next time I'll suggest a better way of looking at this mess, and suggest the only way out.

First, check whether the building, the market or the plot, has the land use licence for commercial property

In India, many people don't have the licence and have shops in residential areas

You also need to check whether the property has been registered property and the building has been built as per approved plans

So, it is important to check the building plan, how much was approved and there's no unauthorised construction

If the building is pre-leased, it is important to understand what kind of agreement and safeguards are there for the owners in the agreement

You need to know what is the net inflow of the owner after taking care of all the mandatory and regulatory expenses

In our hurry, we may end up paying more and not be able to judge whether it is a paying investment

NRIs also need to find out whether it is easy or difficult to find a tenant

You may have a tenant today but if tomorrow if the tenant vacates for whatever reason, then is it easy to find a tenant

Or will it take months or getting another tenant is not possible

Is the rent the owners getting a fair amount, is it equal to the rent avaialble at a nearby complex
