we are in...
Mussomeli
Hi Friends of Foot, he's Giuseppe of "I Viaggi di Cicerone"
the Blog we are collaborating with
we are at the Mussomeli's Castle
yes, because Mussomeli is the headquarter of I Viaggi di Cicerone
our collaborators are spread in several countries
our project was born in Mussomeli
even if it has broaden in the rest of Italy and even in Germany
because we live there
so today you came to visit us and will show you
as a Cicero, since we are I Viaggi di Cicerone
I will show the most beautiful things we have here, starting from the castle
we are going towards
towards the top of the castle
Michele has just joined us
he is also a "Cicerone"
they were telling us how the idea of this blog starts
our job is to tell about a different Sicily
sustainable supporting a sensorial tourism different from the usual
So we have decided to start this internet page
involving several guys from other countries
our country is also something else
the food
the attractive power of villages
390 municipalities, one more beautiful than the other
so it was unavoidable
if we wanted to tell about a different Sicily, to start from this assumption
we are getting soaked by the rain
let's go to find some shelter
this is the stable of the Manfredonic castle
this is the first part
because the castle is built on a rock
it's about 80m from the highest to the lowest point
and there are two levels: the noble level
which we are going soon to discover
with its beautiful stories and legends of the private life
of the governors of Mussomeli and especially this castle
and then there is this part
which came back to the glory of the past more or less thanks to restorations
and here was the stable of the castle
and especially in this Castle in Mussomeli
started
and also ended
the most important part of the success of a family
the Chiaramonte
Good Morning!
please come in my humble residence
this is the hallo of the barons
when I was talking about the story of this castle
there was a moment where Mussomeli was very bound to the story of Sicily
and it was here
where the Chiaramontes who were very ambitious
and wanted in some way to succeed
in taking over power all over Sicily
there was the spaniards, the knight Martino
so they try to do something which was done often
to put discord between the several barons who were connected to their family
and to do that they organised a conspiracy
here they did the second and most important
thing didn't go well, instead in a very bad way
not only for Manfredi who died
but for the one who took the power, Andrea Chiaramonte, the step son of Manfredi
who was left by all the barons
asked king Martin for mercy and forgiveness
bur King Martin didn't want to listen to his words
and right in front of his residence, Palazzo Steri in Palermo,
cut his head off
as all the castles, it could not have
beautiful tales and legends
between myth and legend. On of the most known is
the one to the three ladies
Clotilde, Costanza e Margherita
sisters of the Prince
the Prince was very Jealous
so much jealous that when he went to fight in the war
in order to avoid that they would have a contact with the external world
he ordered to close them into this triangular room which is very narrow
and gave them something to eat
but his return was delayed
he arrived after the time he had planned
and when they opened the door
they found the three ladies dead with the shoes in their mouths
because after they ate everything that was available to eat
at a certain point they started to eat their own shoes
and from this come the tradition of the three ladies
there is a beautiful chant: "le tre Donne Che male c'abbenne"
and this is one of the most interesting stories of this castle
together with another legendary character, whose name is Guiscardo
the ghost
who is here with us in this moment
but I think you have to sign a formal release to see Guiscardo
this is one of the most beautiful halls
with many torture systems, where also interrogation were done
there is an opening in the roof
from where the Prince make his questions
to push for answers he was expecting
and if the answer was different than his expectation, he could throw boiling water
if people did not died because of the tortures, they died because of the humidity
this is the pillory
the victim was put here
and people could do everything to him
normally the pillory had a
wait, it doesn't close
either we cut something...what can we cut?
what a nice thing
so usually the pillory had a board showing the fault
he can leave me here for real
can I make a picture of you?
of course, I am a VIP...:)
does he disappear?
the ghost
one of the owners of this castle, as few know
the song of Modugno: "Vecchio Frack"
was dedicated to one of the owners of this castle
Raimondo Lanza, who suicide
this song is dedicated to one person of Mussomeli,
here we are in the noble chapel
from an architectonic point of view is on the most beautiful things
double cross vault, look how nice
but here in this room, in this very nice chapel
houses the ghost of the castle
the ghost who was called?
the ghost is Guiscardo de la Portes
killed by his antagonist in love
because he was very much in love with Esmeralda
he was sent to Sicily
because King Martin ordered it
He arrived in Sicily and was killed
and now there a biographer, Pasquale Messina
who has come in contact with him and it is since the '70s that he talks to the ghost
and he tells the stories of the ghost
regarding his love with Esmeralda
regarding him and the people that he met during his life
so Guiscardo
talks to someone
he left even a sort of testament
and Pasquale tells the virtues of Guiscardo to the tourist who come to visit this castle
which I can't tell now
You have to come here to know them
because they are suggestions to live a good life
I wanted the suggestions of Guiscardo
so if you come here
to the Mussomeli caste, remember that
come here
and especially come to listen what the ghost has to tell you
it can probably change your life
a trip to Mussomeli can be as a trip to India
because Guiscardo will tell you his stories
wow, Guiscardo is around us
so he lives and sleeps here
probably you stepped on his foot...
our trip is ended
