English Winners, this is another lesson on common irregular verbs. So this is
part two of a- let's say five part series. If you haven't seen the first one, I'll
put a link in the description below, okay? Common irregular verbs... there are a
lot of them. There are a lot of irregular verbs. And so, it's difficult to learn all
of them, but if you start with the ones people use the most, you will get the
most win for the smallest amount of English. So we're going to go over ten.
Each irregular verb I'll list the present tense, the past tense, and the past
participle form of that verb, and give sentence examples of each one. That way,
you can see the similarities between the different tenses and the things that are
a little bit different, okay? I invite you to make your own sentences as you go
along. Try to make your own sentences, especially with the past participle
forms. In fact, some of the new sentences you make... please write them down in the
comments below. Take your time with this exercise, and pause the video
occasionally if you have to. Let's get started. Our first irregular verb is
think: I think I can lift this rock. That's think: present tense.
Past tense form: thought. I thought you left last week. Past participle form:
thought. The decision was thought over by the Executive Board.
Number two: tell. Present form: You can tell me; I won't tell anyone.
Past form: told. He told you not to touch that piece of metal. Past participle form:
told. The children were told stories every evening by their grandmother.
Number three: become. Present tense form: She can become a champion if she works
hard. Past form: became. He became a champion horse racer. Past participle
form: We had become the best restaurant chain in the city.
Number four is show. Present tense form: Show me the money.
Past form: showed. When the security guard stopped me, I showed him my purchase
receipt. Past participle form: shown. The bouncers had shown him the exit soon
after he started getting noisy. Number five: leave. Present form: I'm going to
leave. Past form: left. She left the store to get
some lunch. Past participle form: left. Tom had left
North Dakota for a tropical paradise.
Number six: feel. Feel: present tense form. I feel OK. Past tense form: felt. The warm
blankets felt good. Past participle form: felt. We had felt bored listening to the
professor. Seven: Put. Present tense form: Put down the phone. Past form: put... again. We
put on our coats. And past participle form: put. Hey! Present, past, and past
participle are all the same. Here's our example sentence: Karen had put another
coin in the karaoke machine. Number eight is bring. Bring: present tense
form. Bring your own drinks. Past form: She brought her cousin with
her. And past participle form is: brought... just like past tense. Example: Presents were
brought by the wedding invitees. Number nine: begin. Present form: begin. It's time
to begin. Past form: They began to pack lunch on their business trips. And past
participle form: begun. As in, 'The event had begun without any serious problems.'
Our last one for this video is keep. Present form: keep yourself safe. Past
form: kept. We kept our seat belts on. And kept is the same for past participle form.
Here's our example: GPS batteries were kept in reserve by the exploration team.
