Growing Apple Trees From Seeds - 27 Months and Flowering? - Duration: 8:19.
could it be flowers on my 27 month old Apple tree grown from seed
Hey everyone its Rob the backyard gardenerr here and it definitely definitely
time to get you updated on the apple trees grown from seed I'm really really
excited about this episode for a couple reasons one it's been what five or six
months since I've updated you on the apple trees I think they were 21 months
last time I updated this house series and they turned two years on January 1st
and seeing as how we're about a week away from April 1st they're technically
just about 27 months old a lot of people have been fall in this series and a lot
of people have been telling me that hey Rob you know what it's gonna take years
and years and years for you to ever get any fruits or flowers on your apple
trees and I told them you know what I don't care I really doing this for fun
and I'm not gonna lie I've been saying all along it would be awesome if these
trees could actually produce fruit or even flowers for that matter well guess
what everyone one of my trees is flowering can you believe it let me put
this camera around get you updated on all the trees and show you the one
that's flowering so I thought I'd kick this video off with my 4-year gala apple
tree you know this one's just starting to break its buds not much to look at
here I just wanted to show you that this guy's still doing fine just starting to
break his buds we've also got my ones that were planted this is my Apple
series two series we had three apple trees here they're just starting to
break their buds they're about six months behind the other ones so they're
about 21 months and these guys were stunted because I left them indoors
forever but there's three here as well they're just starting to break their
buds but this is not what I'm doing this series for so you recall that I have two
of my twenty seven month old apple trees grown from seed on this side of the yard
and I wanted to show you one sad thing I believe that this one this one has died
I'm pretty sure it's a goner this is the one if you look down here the rabbits
ate the roots off of pretty good and I tried to cover it up but it looks like
it has perished so huh that's that's kind of a sad thing we're gonna end up
pulling this guy out in another couple months if I don't see any blood break
and we'll replace it with one of my apple trees serious two ones and we'll
just plant that guy over here this is my the one that I've always coined the twin
towers guys and what's really awesome about this one is I want to show this to
you and I said in the beginning so this is the one that's the twin tower one and
I've done very little trimming you can see that he's breaking all his buds
all along here all right but check this out guys
got a nice bug there we've got we got flowers and we don't just have this one
set of flowers coming in here we've been to the set of flowers coming in there
and a set of flowers coming in there like are you kidding me this is 27
months along and we're getting flowers on this guy not on all the buds just
that this one right here this one right here and this one right here again he's
just starting to break his buds and if you look at all of my crabapple trees
they've got their flowers which is normal and I never thought and only it's
going on its third year because it's 27 months we would get flowers on an apple
tree grown from seed and this is only my second best one he's coming along nicely
he's gonna get really filled out this year for sure this is the the third year
is when these trees put on good growth and I've already fertilized the heck out
of the base over the winter so we should see quite a bit of explosive growth but
I am absolutely amazed that we have flowers I can't believe it let me know
what you guys think in the comments button down below
have you seen apple trees grown from seed get flowers within their first
twenty seven months I don't know maybe it's just me maybe I'm lucky maybe it
doesn't mean he's gonna set fruit by the way this does not guarantee a fruit set
but but for fun since I have my crabapple trees already flowering and
there's a lot of pollen on them if these flowers these sets of flowers could open
in the next couple of weeks and this one will probably open in the next couple of
days is it possible that I could get some kind of fruit on these right away
and might be more crabapples but is it possible I would love to hear what your
guys thoughts are on these I would love to know what you think let's move away
from this guy and go to my large one on me
other side of the yard all right so on this side of the yard guys we have the
the one I first put out if you can fall in the series this was the one that was
out about a few weeks before the last one but check this out this guy is doing
fantastic his stem is getting thicker and thicker and thicker and this guy
really broke his buds this year I mean look at this
now I've inspected all of the ends on this one and there are no flowers that I
could see so true to what we expected they're not really going to get flowers
in the first two three or four years on any of your trees grow from seed
typically but this one is definitely going to be probably out of control this
year I'm gonna have to do a lot of topping and trimming to get this guy
trained but he looks great I mean look at the leaves on this guy he's really
filling out beautifully I'm super excited about how he's come out 27
months along he's putting on height he's putting on good branching I probably
could continue to work these branches a little bit better
these two are a little tight here so I probably could top it right here and
allow this branch to come out to give it a better shape but again at 27 months I
don't want to do it a ton of topping sorry or training just yet next year
would be the year I do a lot more topping but anyway fantastic looking I'm
super super happy the trees are coming along nice I have a feeling that this
year is gonna be the year that these guys really take off and again I just
I'm really excited you might hear my voice I'm really excited about the other
tree so there you have it everyone that's an update on my apple trees grown
from seed series got a lot going on we got bud breaks we got some look looks
like explosive growth that's gonna happen I can't believe that we got
flowers we got flowers on one of them again the flowers don't necessarily mean
anything just yet and you know what it'll be kind of sad if I get flowers
after 27 months and they do set fruits and they're crab apples and they're end
and then I'll be like oh well now we know doesn't matter I'm super excited I
can't wait to update you on the next update to see what's happening with
those flowers I'll try to get you a mini update on that tree if not it'll be its
normal one month or every month updating as usual alright guys sorry it's been so
long since I've updated the series I hope you enjoyed the video on the update
I plan on giving you an update on my Kiwi series and also on my pear series
very very soon probably today as well we got a lot of things we're trying to do
if you liked the video please give it a thumbs up and as always thanks for
watching my puppy

Possums have hands and attitude | Chris D'Elia - Duration: 4:50.
(Audience laughing)
I don't know, man. I'm a weirdo.
I realize I talk a lot by myself, you know?
Like, I talk way more by myself
than when I'm with, like, 4 friends, definitely.
And I just wanna hear my voice.
Like, I'll be walking down my stairs in my own house,
and I'll say something like:
"Well, you know, technically, he is right."
(Audience laughing)
Like, who? Nobody's around. I'm agreeing with nobody.
(Audience laughing)
I'm an idiot. My dogs are idiots too.
Dude, I have this possum at my house.
Not because I invited it. It's not my pet or anything.
But I used to feed my dogs outside,
and now I don't because the possum was like:
"Oh, what's up? You got food?"
(Audience laughing)
So, I have this possum.
By the way, have you seen a possum in real life?
Like, not Google. In actual life.
They're scary, man! They have hands!
Possums have hands,
like what you have on your... hands.
(Audience laughing)
Animals have paws and hooves.
You know when you give a dog something
and they're like: "How do I..."
You know?
A possum is like: "I got it."
That's what a possum does.
A possum can set an alarm and wake you up.
This is how I found out I had a possum.
I got home late at night after a set.
I let my dogs out of the crate.
By the way, I crate my dogs.
You know why? They piss all over the place, OK?
(Audience laughing)
Dude, so I brought my dogs up to where I let them out,
and they were like:
"Yeah, let's go piss and eat where we're supposed to."
So, we run up the stairs,
and I see this window with the door,
and I go to let them out, and I see this possum sitting there.
And we're all scared. We go...
(Imitating tires screeching)
And we look at it. But they look at me.
They're like: "What is he gonna do?"
"What do you do? Get that away from our food!"
Right? I'm like: "Me? You look like that thing!
"Go relate to it or whatever!"
But then my dogs are like:
"Yeah, but you're bigger than that thing,
"and that thing is bigger than us!"
And then I said out loud to my other dog:
"Well, you know, technically, he is right,"
like I said out loud.
It made sense that time.
(Audience laughing and applauding)
I had that conversation with my dogs. In my head, you know?
I mean, they didn't have it, probably, in their head.
But they were like: "Go get him!" You know?
So I was like: "All right, I got this." Right?
I don't wanna look stupid in front of my bitch-ass dogs.
They're Yorkies, you know what I mean?
(Audience laughing)
They are. They're Yorkies. Don't!
Aw, you don't know 'em, OK? You don't know 'em.
They pee everywhere, OK?
So, I was like: "I got this." Right?
I'm like: "I'm gonna go give this possum a stern talking to."
Right?
And I realize I'm a little scared, but then I'm like:
Animals are way more scared of us
than we are of them, you know?
That's why hunting is so hard.
It's because, you know, deer get scared.
You gotta dress like a tree, you know?
And then the deer's like: "Is that, you know..."
(Audience laughing)
"No, that's a tree."
(Audience laughing)
But if you make one wrong move,
if you breathe wrong like, "hah,"
The deer goes: "Huh?" Pfft! And runs away.
(Imitating gunshot)
I missed!
So, I'm like: "I'm gonna yell at this possum."
So I go to yell at this possum. I was about to speak English.
I was about to be like: "Hey, possum!
"Get out of there! That's our food!"
But I was like: You don't need to do that.
I didn't want my dogs to look at me and be like...
(English accent): "I can't believe he tried that."
You know what I mean? So, like...
(Audience laughing)
So I was like: I don't wanna look stupid.
But that's true.
You don't ever need to speak English to a possum,
right, or any animal.
It's not like you're gonna be like, "Get away from there,"
and he's like: "Oh, I'm so sorry!
"I thought this was TGI Fridays," or whatever.
'Cause it's eating the food with its hand, by the way!
It's not like an animal like:
(Snarling)
It's eating it like: "Hello!" You know, like...
(Audience laughing)
So, I go to my 2nd option, not yell in English.
But I yelled at him, I just go: "Aaah!"
And the possum doesn't get scared.
It just adopts more of an attitude.
It was like TSA agent or something.
It just ate the food slower and looked at me.
"Sir, you need to back up, sir."
(Audience laughing)
"You need to back up. Back up.
"No liquids beyond this point, sir.

Humanitarian Crisis In Hollywood - Duration: 12:46.
We have the largest homeless population in the country.
The city council is expected to declare
homelessness a local emergency today.
Homelessness is dropping in much of the country,
but not in California.
Imagine 2,500 people living on the streets and sidewalks
in a 49 square block area
and utilising only nine permanent rest rooms
and four new temporary ones have been added.
So let's be kind and say that we have 13 total restrooms
for 2,500 people.
That's 180 restrooms shy of a minimum standard
for a Syrian refugee camp.
You're Hollywood right, you're in LA,
you're in the land of myth making through film.
And when we talk about the American Dream,
the ultimate myth, right, you know, it's often inextricably tied
to the ownership of a home.
This is Los Angeles, home to the glitz and glamour of Hollywood,
the city perhaps most synonymous with the American dream.
But this is also LA.
Walk by here at night.
Every doorway there's a homeless person sleeping in it
all the way down the street.
The City of Los Angeles declared a State of Emergency
in September 2015 due to rising homelessness.
Almost 60,000 people in the county are living without shelter.
Many of them live in Skid Row in downtown LA
which has long been considered the centre of homelessness in the city.
Up to 1,000 people sleep at the Union Rescue Mission,
which was set-up in 1891, on any given night.
I actually contracted three flesh eating diseases,
E. coli, Staph and Strep from the sidewalks,
when I had a wound boot on,
and I ended up after two years in a wheelchair
I ended up losing my lower right leg.
And that is the condition of the health on Skid Row
because of the shortage of restrooms.
It really is a crisis.
Then we have a certain strain of TB
found only in the world on Skid Row.
According to the Stop TB campaign poverty fuels tuberculosis,
a disease that passes from person to person and affects the lungs.
They say a lack of basic health services, poor nutrition
and inadequate living conditions all contribute to the spread of TB.
The situation on Skid Row and other areas was so desperate
that in December 2017, the United Nations sent Special Rapporteur
Philip Alston to examine conditions in the United States.
His conclusions were shocking.
The way in which those
in the bottom 20 percent of the population exist
is in dramatic contrast to the wealth that is in the country.
I've never seen anything like this in my life.
The tents.
The people that are on drugs, the mental conditions.
It's unbelievable.
Filming on Skid Row was no easy task.
While some were eager to share their stories
others understandably didn't want to be filmed.
We ain't no stars.
We don't wanna be stars either.
Put that camera down.
Los Angeles probably represents in civilisation
one of the largest dichotomies of civilisation where you have
what you see here, tents, people,
which is the absolute low of poverty.
And on the other side we have Hollywood,
which is Tinseltown, the movies.
So what is Hollywood doing?
The authorities have taken a heavy handed approach.
The LAPD and law enforcement are regularly called on
to clear the homeless from the streets.
While arrests in the city declined 15 percent between 2011 and 2016,
arrests of homeless people by the LAPD were up 31 percent.
There is a lack of facilities to deal with the scale of the problem.
Skid Row is home to the biggest concentration
of homeless people in the US.
We spoke to the mayor of LA at the official groundbreaking
of a new affordable housing complex for the homeless on Skid Row.
Well, I'm mayor of this city,
but I have no dollars for health care,
mental health care, social services.
Housing dollars, we have a few but really
those come from the State of California and the federal government.
So everybody has made sure that it's not their responsibility.
I've taken the leadership, saying
even if I don't have those dollars I'm going to lead.
We have a county that's working with the city
for the first time and we finally have a plan.
We went to the voters not just once but twice,
and we now have $4.5 billion to spend over this next decade.
So it won't end overnight.
But I believe in that decade
by the time the Olympics come here in 2028,
that we can get everybody off the streets.
But the crisis has worsened under his leadership.
Over the last six years homelessness has shot up
by an incredible 75 percent.
And as the Mayor assured us, housing is being built in LA,
but most of it isn't for the people living on Skid Row.
Yes, so that's the building.
If you look it has the sign that says Broadway Palace Apartments.
And you see how there's a hole there and a hole here?
They're working on building a bridge.
You heard correctly.
A bridge is being built to connect buildings
at the latest luxury development of billionaire property tycoon
Geoffrey Palmer.
It's his way of making the homeless invisible
to those living here at the Broadway Palace Apartments
just blocks from Skid Row.
To answer your question too -
everybody has to go through a criminal background check,
a credit background check,
a rental history and an income check.
So everybody has to be screened
before they are approved to move in.
Palmer was a key supporter of Donald Trump
during his presidential campaign,
donating five million dollars.
We would like to have spoken to Palmer
to find out why he believes affordable housing is "immoral"
and if he really hasn't paid any federal taxes
for 30 years as he claimed in 2015.
He rarely gives interviews
and didn't respond to my request for one.
Probably his vision of Making America Great Again
is to take it back to the 1920s
and to wipe the entire district of Skid Row off the map
as he has done in this brochure.
For most, the 1920s was an era of poverty,
not too dissimilar to what is happening on the streets in LA today.
Well I think what we are seeing is that the people
who are most affected by the lack of affordable housing
ended up on the street and became homeless.
But that affordability crisis
exists for many more people now than it once did.
We have a tremendous need for affordable housing,
not only in the city of Los Angeles,
the county of Los Angeles but the entire state of California.
The ones who are suffering from homelessness
are disproportionately those from minority backgrounds,
especially African-Americans.
There's a lot of money going around, that we see like,
we're all Americans but at the end of the day,
we can't really see where the money is going in the community,
and if they do they use the money for other things
other than helping the people in America, like black people.
Women and LGBTQ people are also disproportionately affected
by the homeless crisis.
On Hollywood Boulevard, we spoke with Alexandra,
a trans Latina woman who just two years ago slept in her car
while studying at a university and struggling to make ends meet.
So you're seeing a rise in homelessness
because of the cost of tuition,
because of the cost of housing and how expensive it is,
and not only that but you're also seeing this
because of the discrimination that people in the community face.
Nobody would hire me at the gas station,
nobody would hire me at any of these places,
and I needed to pay my bills.
So, what do you do?
It was all of those reasons, like I said before,
that led me into sex work.
A 2017 report from the California Housing Partnership Corporation
showed a shortfall of over half a million
affordable homes in LA County.
Rent continues to spiral,
rising by 17.5 percent between 2005 and 2016
while wages only grew by 8 percent over the same period.
This extreme shortage of affordable housing and rising rent prices,
is forcing people, 10,000 to be specific, to live out of their vehicles.
Many of them have jobs, or did until recently.
Mo arrived in Los Angeles a week before we spoke to him.
He once co-owned a restaurant in Florida,
but when we met him he was sleeping on the beach.
The jobs aren't paying that good any more, if there's any jobs.
So I guess that affects a lot of people.
A lot of people come with a lot of hopes.
We're going down there to LA and doors are gonna open,
but you get faced with reality –
ain't no doors gonna open unless you make it happen.
For the past two months, Jordan and his partner
have been forced to rent out their couches for 17 dollars a night
in order to pay the 3,000 dollar a month rent
in their small one bedroom house.
For the most part if you're a new renter in Los Angeles,
you don't have rent control, the rent is going to go up every year.
Unless you've been here for like, a decade,
and have some kind of rent control.
Otherwise the developments keep happening.
They just keep springing up at an alarming rate.
And all these companies can do whatever they want.
In a tent in his backyard, there's a couple
who used to rent Jordan's couches.
But what started as a way for him to pay his rent
has extended to helping others out of good will.
This couple no longer pay Jordan anything.
I was like sleeping at hostels and shit,
but it was like tough to constantly pay for that so
sometimes I had to sleep outside.
I had a tent just like this and was sleeping outside.
I mean sleeping on the beach wasn't too bad.
Despite the enormity of the crisis,
community organisations are fighting back.
One of these is Defend Boyle Heights
who describe themselves as an autonomous coalition,
committed to building community power
against gentrification principally through direct action.
Other organisations such as the LA Tenants Union
are also involved in pushing back
against spiralling rents and displacement.
We recently won a very high visibility campaign
where folks who were living in non-rent controlled
or rent stabilised units were about to be evicted
because the landlord was trying to raise the rents
by about 60 to 80 percent depending on the units.
The average was I think about 60 percent.
We were able to keep those people in their homes.
They negotiated a collective bargaining agreement
between the tenants and the landlord.
And folks were able to stay.
They were able to stay in their neighborhood,
they were able to stay with their people.
A state of emergency, a health crisis and skyrocketing rents -
all on the doorstep of Hollywood,
in the world's biggest economy.
It's a humanitarian crisis that we would more typically associate
with extremely low income countries,
and one which provoked the UN Special Rapporteur to say that
"the American dream is rapidly becoming the American illusion."
The people must come together and make a righteous stand.
Only then shall we have housing
and stability in the people's hands.

BREAKING: White House PURGE Underway – They're ALL Getting FIRED news headlines - Duration: 5:13.
BREAKING: White House PURGE Underway – They're ALL Getting FIRED.
Newly appointed national security advisor for President Donald Trump, John Bolton, is
said to be "brilliant and very tough."
According to Harvard Law School professor emeritus Alan Dershowitz, "he will be a
valuable part of the president's national security team" describing Bolton as "hawkish
and smart" and his views as "consistent with the president."
Bolton is slated to replace H.R. McMaster on April 9, 2018 after McMaster's untimely
retirement and desire to "leave public service."
Bolton is the newest high-level addition to the Trump administration.
The president announced late Thursday via tweet that Bolton would be replacing H.R.
McMaster, making him Trump's third national security adviser in just 14 months.
The 69-year-old served previously under President George W. Bush as a United Nations ambassador
and is already expected to "launch a massive shake-up" when he takes his position early
next month in an effort to clear leakers out of the Trump administration.
Leaking information to the press has been a problem that has plagued the Trump administration
from the beginning.
Reports are coming out that Bolton and his staff are making plans to target any and all
officials that are believed to have been disloyal to President Trump, those who have chosen
to leak to the media about the president, and those that came in under former President
Barack Obama.
Foreign Policy magazine reported –
'Bolton can and will clean house," one former White House official told the magazine.
A second former White House official was more blunt: "Everyone who was there during Obama
years should start packing their shitt.
And another source said that Bolton "is going to remove almost all the political McMaster
brought in.
Trump and Bolton see eye to eye on a more hawkish foreign policy, especially when it
comes to North Korea and Iran, and are equally averse to multilateral diplomacy, whether
that means the U.N. or working with the European Union.
That has veterans of the Trump administration predicting that Bolton will quickly seek to
install his own team at the NSC, which functions as a clearing house for policy advice and
is supposed to integrate the different perspectives of U.S. government agencies."
Within hours of his appointment by President Trump, Bolton held a conference call with
longtime advisors including longtime Republican consultant Matthew Freedman.
Freedman advised Bolton while he served with both the State Department and the United Nations
and he will be helping Bolton to manage his transition into the NSC.
Bolton states of the issues facing the Trump administration and the United States as a
whole – "The United States currently faces a wide array of issues, and I look forward
to working with President Trump and his leadership team in addressing these complex challenges,
in an effort to make our country safer at home and stronger abroad."
The purge is not going to stop with Obama appointees either as there are also plans
to remove all political appointees brought in by McMaster as well.
The Daily Caller reports –
'One Bolton source put a damper on the report, saying it was "premature" to talk about
staff changes.
Another cautioned that any staff changes, were they to be signed off on by Bolton, would
be slow in coming because of the time it takes to process security clearances, which will
likely leave Bolton with most current staff for President Trump's upcoming May meeting
with North Korea's Kim Jong Un.
However, Matthew Freedman, a Republican consultant and Bolton adviser who is helping to manage
the transition, is reportedly "overly ambitious about cleaning house," according to a Republican
source, although Freedman himself told Foreign Policy there was currently "no list" of
people to fire.
Foreign Policy also reports –
Among the officials Bolton's allies are urging him to fire is Nadia Schadlow, currently
the deputy national security advisor for strategy.
Schadlow was the primary author of the administration's recently released National Security Strategy,
which was viewed as a surprisingly mainstream document that reaffirmed many traditional
U.S. foreign-policy positions.
Another official likely to be targeted in a Bolton purge is McMaster's deputy, Ricky
Waddell.
It wouldn't be the first purge to follow a change in Trump's national security advisor.
When Lt. Gen. H.R. McMaster replaced retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn in the job last year,
McMaster systematically eliminated officials seen as loyal to his predecessor.
According to four sources close to the White House, those so-called "Flynnstones" advisors
loyal to Flynn are believed to be plotting their return to the NSC.
Still, personnel changes take time.
It would be detrimental for national security to leave the NSC short-handed, so for now,
Bolton will have to make due with who he has while his incoming team receives security
clearances.
That also means Bolton's current staff will be in place for the summit meeting between
President Trump, and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in May.
What do you think about this?

to the economic dimensions of our lives jobs incomes debts our own those of our
kids. I'm your host Richard Wolff I've been a
professor of economics all my adult life and I hope that that has prepared me
well to offer you these insights into what's been going on in our economy over
the last week or two I begin with a story horrible story in a way about the
arrest and charging of five doctors in New York City for taking kickbacks from
the producer of a medication that they were paid to prescribe rather more than
they might otherwise have done the reason this gets a lot of attention is
because the medication in question is fentanyl one of the most dangerous of
the opioids that are currently accounting for overdose deaths in the
many tens of thousands across the United States each year Arizona based iNSYS
therapeutics is the company and it markets something called subsys a spray
form of the opioid fentanyl effectively what the New York Times reported last
week was that the company paid doctor's quote speaking fees they called them a
sham the New York Times did speaking fees which went up and were granted in
proportion to the number of prescriptions that the doctors wrote of
course this is what you get with profit-making companies in the medicine
business in order to make profit the company needs to sell as much medicine
as possible since this is a prescription medicine it means that has to get the
doctors to write the prescriptions so suddenly doctors are
whisked off to lovely resorts where they can speak to one another all of this
being paid for with or without fees by a company that makes it clear to the
doctors what all of this is for this is normal in the medical business which it
is a business and happens with lots of medications all the time but when you're
dealing with a killer of the sort of fentanyl you can get in trouble and
that's what happened imagine with me as we think about this what it would be if
we made medications medicines not for profit that is we didn't have them be a
business driven by the notion let's make more money which is the guiding notion
of capitalist business we might then have medications produced by
organizations that had on them doctors and medical professionals on the one
hand and the consuming public that takes the medications on the other and that
together they would make a decision about what medicines to use what
medicines to prescribe based on the science and the need without the
intrusion of the profit and let me drive the point home because medicine
companies like to justify the enormous profits they earn even enormous in
relationship to other capitalist businesses they justify it often by
saying well we have to charge these high prices and make these big profits in
order to pay for the research that produces medicines well two things one
often that we search is to be blunt bogus it's not research on a new
medicine it's often research on how you can make a medicine different enough
from an existing powerhouse drug so that you can get a patent for it it's a
little bit different and yet you can sell it as a competitor this isn't
developing a new medicine this is developing a profit-making
strategy calling that research and development is an attempt to fool the
public into thinking they have to pay these wild prices for medications in
order to get medicines produced would be a far better and cheaper over
arrangement to let universities and research outfits have government or
other kinds of funding to produce new medications for those diseases we need
most rather than letting the profit motive dictate it's a wonderful example
of what the costs of capitalism are my next update has to do with a little
statistic between 2009 and 2016 roughly the presidency of Obama the federal
government's deficits fell straight line down across those years this is sort of
interesting because Democrats are usually accused of being budget-busting
deficit creators whereas Obama wasn't it's doubly interesting because Obama
was president a president at a time of enormous economic stress when you would
think the government tries to help out and might legitimately be thought to run
a deficit but instead Obama's government ran fewer and fewer deficits next point
with mr. Trump the deficits are going back up and they are predicted to go
sharply up over the next several years what's the significance of declining
deficits with a Democrat and rising deficits with a Republican well if you
read the mass media you'd get the idea oh isn't it odd that the one party
that's normally against deficits is now running them and the party that normally
says it's okay is now cutting them that would be to make a big mistake that kind
of analysis because what it does is it takes seriously the debate about more or
less deficits the reasons the Republicans can smoothly and easily
shift from one position to another and likewise the Democrat
is because it doesn't really matter all that much that's not what these policies
are about and that's not what these political parties are doing what the job
of both parties is is to manage capitalism to make it run as smoothly as
possible the difference between the Republicans and Democrats is the
Republicans want to run it boldface idli for the people who run the society the
richest the most secure and they really pander to them the Democrats pander to
the same folks but they know the system is more secure if those at the top share
at least a little with the rest of the population to avoid the whole game
coming to a screeching halt neither of them deals with the
capitalist system other than to support it to encourage it to preserve it and to
keep it going which is why we don't have any solution
to the problems of capitalism the fundamental instability of the system
it's cycles it's bouncing up and down such as it did so catastrophically in
2008 and likewise we have no resolution to the problem of the growing inequality
that capitalism breeds of course both the Republicans and Democrats say they
are for stability and they are for less inequality but because they don't deal
with the system they both preside over worsening situations in both areas so
let's not worry about the details of up-and-down deficits we have bigger fish
to fry and bigger problems to solve my next update has to do with what happens
if you leave the control of harm caused by capitalist enterprises to them to
solve if you ask them to police themselves to curb their excesses to
prevent the harm here's what you get ingenious solutions and quotation marks
that have the peculiar problem of saving the profits of the company
and not doing all that well on solving the problem
I'm gonna give you the starkest example cigarettes I'm assuming you all know as
the world does that here in the United States we went through years and years
of litigation and programs that demonstrated beyond all reasonable doubt
that tobacco companies knew that their product was dangerous causing lung
cancer and so on and fizzy m'a knew it produced it anyway advertised it anyway
and that the only way to deal with it was to really come down hard on them
punish them find them enormous amounts of money require them to put warning
labels on cigarette packs not advertise not be near a school you get the idea
and the companies were told you should deal with this problem on top of it but
a large amount of discretion was left in those company's hands so guess what a
recent article in the British newspaper The Guardian shows that around the world
not in the United States and not in the number of the countries that have done
like the United States come down on the cigarette companies where they're in
danger of being exposed for what I'm about to tell you but in countries where
the government is weaker where there hasn't been that kind of campaign there
is massive marketing of cigarettes especially to children and that's what
the Guardian went around the world to document and did a really fine piece of
work this last week here are some of the things the cigarette companies have done
and here for example is where their research and development is focused
massive ads and store placements where children shop in or near candy stores in
its extraordinary the research there's a vast program of marketing single
cigarettes because children don't have enough money to buy a pack so it's a big
expansion of the sale of cigarettes by the individual piece
one that caught me unawares colorful branding cigarette papers in various
colors mimicking children themes and here's the one that really knocked me
multi-flavored cigarettes that's right cigarettes that have been infused with
chocolate and strawberry and vanilla every one of the major cigarette
companies talks about their commitment for children and not advertising to them
but the reality exposed by the Guardian shows that if you leave the solution of
the harm done by capitalist enterprises to them they will avoid dealing with the
problem while they protect their profits let me give you a second example also
drawn from the cigarette industry one of those things it touts as its great step
forward was the development of e-cigarettes or vapor or vaping
cigarettes but a recent study released this last week at the Dartmouth College
Norton cottons Cancer Center shows that the number of people weaned off of
cigarettes and shifting to the vaping cigarettes is much much smaller than the
number particularly of young people who are hooked onto cigarette smoking by
smoking those cigarettes those vapor cigarettes the evidence suggests that
the vapor cigarettes are less dangerous for you that's a good step but of course
by hooking large numbers of people on the e-cigarette you continue to sell
that back oh which is what the company makes its money on what a bizarre notion
leaving the control of the harm done by profit-making capitalists in their hands
to solve. Before moving on to the other updates for today, I want to remind you
we maintain two websites. They are available 24/7, no charge whatsoever. We
urge you to make use of them. The first one is rdwolff
with two F's dot com, and the other one is democracyatwork, that's all one
word, democracyatwork.info. You can use either of these websites to
communicate to us what you like and don't like it, and would like to see changed
on this program. You could, by a click of your mouse, follow us on Facebook,
Twitter and Instagram. You can see extra material that we load up there all the
time, and if you are listening to this program but you would like to consider
looking at it as a television program, since it is available in both forms, we
urge you: go to the following website where you can do that patreon.com, P-A-T-R-E-O-N,
patreon.com/economicupdate, for the TV version. Let me repeat those
two websites in case you didn't note them down: rdwolff with two Fs dot com,
and democracyatwork.info. Our next economic update has to do with a huge
case coming up before the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit this has
to do with the decision of the Federal Communications Commission to abolish net
neutrality the requirement that the internet make available at the same rate
to everybody the service the access to the internet that we all now require and
use on a daily basis this decision if you like to get rid of net neutrality
has produced a tremendous battle between two groups of capitalists those who
stand to make money by being able to charge if that neutrality is indeed
affirmed as God no longer there that would mean that the court says that what
the FCC did is legal they can do that they can get rid of the neutrality vs
companies that are gonna lose money let me give you an idea of the people who
are pushing to get rid of net neutrality because
they want to charge and guess who they want to charge you and me here they are
just a partial list ATT Verizon t-mobile Sprint okay
Comcast charter Cox and Altice these are the internet providers that are in the
association's putting pushing to get rid of net neutrality on the other side
pushing to keep it so that we can't be charged this money are the attorneys
general of 22 states in the United States but notice that's a minority of
the states in this country and a variety of consumer advocacy groups and a few
big tech companies that understand like Amazon Google Facebook Netflix and
others that making it more expensive for us to get at the internet will mean we
lose it and use it less but here's what I want to drive home here we are the
public for whom these institutions supposedly exist the internet so we can
communicate with one another better so that we can find out about important
issues better we are going to be faced with fees that are going to be fought
out between two groups of contesting capitalists makes you wonder who runs
this system the people the vast majority who need it to work for them or the very
small number of people who profit off of how the system works well the question
answers itself capitalism is a system in which profit-making enterprises are the
dominant group for the rest of us we live with the consequences while we are
excluded from participating in any meaningful way on the one hand huge
corporations with vast resources to throw into this on the other hand
consumer advocacy groups who go around having bake sales to
collect a very small amount of money which can't compete since it's all going
to be decided by one warring group of companies on one hand and another
warring on the other extraordinary way to organize an economy don't you think
next I want to turn to Germany for our update the German city of Essen, E-S-S-E-N, Essen
got into the news last week when a local food bank which serves 6,000 people per
week in this modest sized German city this food bank distributes leftover or
discarded food from restaurants and grocery stores it made the decision and
that's why they got the publicity to stop giving food to non German citizens
in other words your need didn't determine whether you got food your
nationality did whoa what do you say about that not exactly your Christian
values you might think but we'll put that one aside one critic of this
decision Sahra wagenknecht of the Left Party in
Germany asked quote in a country as rich as Germany are we arguing about who gets
leftover groceries and the answer is yes exactly that's what you're arguing over
and why is this happening because they've been cuts in all kinds of social
supports social services welfare programs and why is that happening in
the rich country of Germany well the answer is the same as why it's happening
in the rich countries of Scandinavia of France of Italy and for that matter
Britain the United States and so on here's the basic story capitalism has
abandoned those countries there's more profit to be made by producing in China
and India and Brazil where wages are much lower and so the capitalists have
picked up and gone over there and that means they're in
in the United States or Britain or France or Germany is much reduced if
they're gonna have to pay taxes they're gonna pay them in the countries which
are on the uptick where they're making more money where they see growth they
don't want to pay taxes in the country from which they are departing so they
don't pay taxes and they join movements and they pay for movements to cut back
on taxes so governments don't have enough money and so the good people of
Essen Germany have to exclude starving people who don't have a German
citizenship nothing was more hypocrisy a hypocrisy or more hypocritical I should
say then a Chancellor Merkel in Germany who said quote it wasn't good
to make that decision but she said the situation highlighted quote the pressure
that nonprofits are facing let's be honest which she isn't the pressure is
as capitalism moves East paying lower wages brings much more wealth to the
people who own those businesses who remain Americans British Germans and so
on they're making more profits because they're paying lower wages in China than
they used to pay in Germany they don't want to give up any of the extra wages
to deal with the consequences of moving so they're gonna take it out on the
poorest of the poor shifting the burden of capitalism's new direction by making
those at the bottom pick up the cost my next economic update also highlights
something that we've talked about on this program before it has to do with an
element and economics element of the struggle between Donald Trump on the one
hand and stormy Daniels on the other for those of you not familiar with stormy
Daniels I'm not going to discuss that since I can't imagine there are too many
of you who don't know what I'm talking about
stormy Daniels signed an agreement apparently with agents of mr. Trump
including his personal lawyer not to discuss the details of a love affair she
says she had with the president some years ago
over the last week or two mr. Trump has interned decided to sue Stormy Daniels
for 20 counts of damaging him by breaching such a nondisclosure agreement
the press picked up that the tactic here is a familiar one in American law
somebody Sue's you whether you're guilty or not to be determined but the way you
defeat them is by countersuing because then there are two kinds of
cases and the winner tends to be the one who can afford the best and the largest
law firm to do the work to win the case in other words it ceases being about
facts and justice and becomes about who's got more money a porn actress
stormy Daniels or the President of the United States you guess the outcome it's
a kind of a reminder of what the OJ Simpson case kind of showed us too
money plays an inordinate a role if you allow a capitalist system to produce
gross inequality it's naive to imagine that that inequality will not find its
way into the legal system and make the outcomes reflect the money and not the
justice of what's going on according to the Guardian newspaper particularly of
March 16th there's a new law in the United Kingdom in Britain that mandates
the reporting of the pay that is given to men versus women and two different
layers of the society particularly top executives we don't have that law in the
United States at least not yet and the results are
really interesting and I wanted to present them to you first for Great
Britain and these are the numbers for the Year 2015 and 2016 so it's very
recent listen to these numbers as to the gender difference in those years 618
thousand men in Britain earned over a hundred and forty thousand dollars a
year let me do that again six roughly six hundred thousand men earned over a
hundred and forty thousand how many women earned over a hundred and forty
thousand a hundred and seventy nine thousand do you understand
three times the number of men earn those high salaries than the number of women
let's go even higher how many men and women in England earned over 1 million
pounds that's the British currency per year that would be over 1.4 million
dollars a year 17,000 men in Britain earned that much 2000 women do in other
words all the discussion of gender equalization all the discussion of
ending gender and sex discrimination has not gone very far in capitalist Britain
and sadly this is all too typical I'm bringing you the British numbers not
because they're worse than anybody else or better but because they're typical
and we know them other countries we don't have them quite
yet on average women in Britain get 25% a quarter less than men finally on this
same point the Guardian did a calculation based as best it could on
the available statistics on how men and women do when it comes to sharing or
facing let's call it their income situations the United States ranks 13th
in other words there are 12 other countries where the ratio of men and
women is closer to equal than the United States Britain is slightly worse than
the United States but roughly the same I thought you might be interested in the
12 countries that do better that pay women closer to what they pay men less
inequality here's the list of those 12 countries starting in the most equal and
then down getting closer to the US here we go
Iceland Norway Sweden New Zealand Slovenia Denmark Finland Canada
Luxembourg Switzerland Poland and Belgium all pay people more equally for
their work we've come to the end of the first half of economic update please
stay with us for the important and interesting interview that is to follow
and please remember that after a short break we will be right back.

LEARNING HIGH VALYRIAN // LANGUAGE CHALLENGE - Duration: 7:22.
hello my name is Mari and this one goes to all the games of Thrones fans out there
high Valyrian here we go
so I decided to take to YouTube the March instara
challenge by Lindsay does languages I will link her channel in the description
box down below and somewhere in the video this challenge is all about a
lesser studied languages the whole idea is to take each week of March a new
language and explore it and put it in the spotlight and so far we've done two
weeks Afrikaans and catalan and this is the third week we're doing high Valyrian but
if you want to see the previous challenges I will link them in the
description box down below so I have never watched games of Thrones yeah I know
I know y'all want me to get into it and I get it... maybe I'll do after these I don't know
but the thing is that so farI haven't but everyone around me have and I guess
I'm trying to get a little bit into their world and try to learn in high Valyrian so I
can understand where they talk about all the time a little bit more and let me
tell you there are two things I discovered from this week of you learning
high Valyrian and the first one is that I love constructed languages they're so
much fun to learn they have you know all this fantasy worlds around them and it's
it's just so much fun and the second high Valyrian is freaking difficult so
without further to say let's get started number one name of the language
that is high Valyrian second number of speakers it is unknown but it is even in
the games of Thrones world considered to be at dead language so....
where is it spoken. it was language of learning and education among the nobility of Essos
and Westeros oh you know like in the real world the I guess anywhere whether there's
Internet connection and a games of thrones super fan
interesting features
High Valyrian wasfirst mentioned in the novel A Song of Ice and Fire by George RR martin but
was later developed as a whole language my David J Peterson a linguistics expert
and it was done for the TV show and what David did is that he took words
that were already in the book and start working with them as well as taking in
consideration the cultural context of this fantasy world and the language is
completely different to anything I have ever heard before I like that it has a
pronunciation and a grammar system that it gives you this old-timey medieval feeling
which I'm pretty sure is what they want to go for
famous speakers, works of literature, etc
so in the world of games of Thrones, high Valyrian is the
language of literature and music composition and in the real world well
you know the people that is participating in the show they probably
know some High Valyrian
resources I found duolingo of course it is um well it's where I first
heard of high Valyrian I was curious so I started it and it was fun yeah so
that's a good resource I believe there are also some other websites with like
phrases and some good videos also with vocabulary and phrases or the ABC and
stuff . I will leave that in the description box ... all of the resources in
so you can check it out
share a video of what you've learned ...so I cannot retain high Valyrian in my head
it's so different to anything I've heard before and also I didn't put too much
effort while learning it and just like did a lot of fun stuff, so I don't remember
many words so what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna read... there's a phrase from
TV show and there are like some other phrases I found and I'm gonna read them to you
so from this phrase what I recall is that Valyrio is Valyrian, Iksan is I am and Muño is mother
I'm pretty sure we're talking here about a mother tongue something
like Valyrian was her mother tongue so that's what I am caught from this phrase
I know that zaldrizesse is like dragons
Daoruni gīmī, Ionos Sōnaro. (( you know nothing, Jon Snow))
that's Jon Snow right oh I know this one
that's like I love you in high Valyrian
which is funny because they have all of this dragon words like Knights like
yeah like battles and stuff and then say oh I love you and they also have phrases
like I'm gonna marry you but actually I read somewhere they don't have a happy
birthday phrase... that's curious...
will I learn High Valyrian full time probably not and even if get into
watching Game of Thrones I think it will be more lean to learn Dothraki
because I know they use it more so yeah but it has been so much fun learning it I like just like
finding random phrases and try to read them because sound of it is just so
funny for me like I love saying things and this language like really make me fall in
love these constructed languages from big fantasy worlds like it showed me that
language learning can be also very very creative it has this very
interesting side
why don't you go ahead and leave me in the comments why should I watch games of
Thrones... you know maybe if you give me a good enough reason I could get into it so
this is all for today thank you so so much for watching if you like this video
please give it a thumbs up and don't forget to subscribe to my channel for
more language videos
Hey if you have any good recommendations and high valyrian
resources please leave them in the comments down below
let's share our high Valyrian discoveries with each other okay bye

Making Your OCs as Funko Pops #12 / Let's Make an OC Design with Paula - Duration: 10:29.
Hi everybody. I'm Paula and I'm going to do some more
of your OCS today more original characters and this time I'm going to do
four of you so make sure that you check out all the YouTube channels seriously
I'm going to put links in the description so let's see what we can do
over at Funko I'm going to start with Josie Powers and look at her character
is that not amazing seriously oh my gosh is so cute so let's see how we can make
this one look it looks like she has blue and white in the hair I know I can't do
that but I will come as close as I can and let's see what we can come up with
well I guess definitely it's a little girl and she has grey skin okay well I
am going to start with that color because it is a little bit grey but it's
kind of off great almost it almost looks white but it's not quite so let's see
how we can do with this and let's add the eyebrows because you know that is so
important I don't know why it just is well that's cute that looks closer I'm
going to go with that and let's see about the outfit what kind of clothes do
you think I should put on her because you know we're limited up here right I
mean it just happens
I've made my mind up and I'm going on so let's see accessories we definitely need
the tail and ears and I'm pretty sure they still have the same tail in here
let's see let's get the ears and the tail what kind of background do you
think we will need that is wild that is probably too wild but that's
that's cute with the yellow I like that but I don't know I tend to like the
picture suit with that look at her hair it's like ghost hair the ghost hair just
blends in so much you just you just can't I can't help it it just does
that is definitely cute oh my gosh I picked that okay I picked that I mean
it's kind of pink but then so is her shirt you know and she looks so adorable
with that but anyway guys there is Josie Powers and I don't know the name of her
character but her character is so cute and I really wish that I could do the
stripes and the hair because I really really liked how she designed the hair I
think it is so pretty and unique and her outfit is so nice so anyway make sure
you go to her youtube channel and let's go to the next one now we're going to do
animal pack and look at this character she's not adorable
well I know we're going to have pink hair for sure definitely pink hair
so let's put on the eyebrows to get to the hair and it is going to be long and
pink and so cute oh my goodness that is the cutest hair and the way she has the
hair I'm going to have to pick this hairs hairstyle because her hair is kind
of more bushy than perfectly straight it looks like it has a little bit of waves
and this one doesn't so you know you're just gonna have to guess why I picked
that one nevermind okay I know what I'm doing
let's go to outfit
that looks cute to me because at least that's gray her shoes don't exactly
perfectly match but they're cute aren't they and I don't see that she is a cat
or anything or box so I won't put ears on her because that would be wrong I
mean you don't put ears on a person what wait what wait what am I saying
okay nevermind I didn't do that and it looks like she has stuff in her ear but
I don't know that I even have that so let's try to really give her a really
good background because I think that could make all the difference that is
always a good background I love that background it's so pretty I'm going to
pick that one because she looks like she would be a princess okay to me because
she is so beautiful yes she is definitely so beautiful
so this is animal pack and make sure you go and visit her YouTube channel
seriously and let's go to the next one I'm going to do vampy Katie and make
sure you visit her youtube channel too and let's start her out actually her
character is adorable look at this I am guessing it is a vampire of some sort
and it is definitely an animal that she hasn't made up because it has wings not
that animals can't have wings but it looks like a wolf a wolf would wings and
it's cool-looking isn't it this is so so neat so let's see here if we can make
this in a pop a Funko pop because sometimes it's hard to do the o'seas or
original characters in the Funko pops but I think they come out really neat so
I'm going to say that this is a girl okay let's go to the face and definitely
eyebrows have to have the eyebrows and do I need blush
I don't know I guess we could put blush right okay hair what should we do for
hair because this hair is majestic and it definitely needs to be red which is
going to end up being large and that is like my daughter Bethany that's that's
not this wolf right minted on I like that I'm going to go with that one okay
I'm gonna start there again looks good outfit
what kind of outfit should we do it I
like that that is so cute and she doesn't have any clothes so I don't know
I just really don't know and as for wings there are some little
bug wings it says that they're changing colors but they don't seem to be well we
could put those little wings on those are cute but there are other wings like
we have that but those are like serious wings okay let's go back to the nice
little quiet wings but we do need ears definitely at a tail even though that's
not like her tell her tail is beautiful this tail is plain but yeah it's I kind
of like these wings better just because it doesn't make it doesn't seem so
overpowering overbearing whatever I want to say okay you know what I mean it
I don't know the eyes have to be black as a pup that's just kind of what it is
but I like the outfit I think the outfit looks good and I think that she might
wear that outfit because it looks cool to me okay and it's slightly bred kinda
I mean a teeny bit so let's go to the background what do you think that would
be should be something intense really intense not bad no that looks cool
although oh that's neat oh my gosh I love that okay I'm gonna pick that I
think that looks really really nice as a background that is so cool so anyway
there is family Katie and I know it's not perfect okay but you know that we're
kind of limited for the OCS at Funko but it is so much fun trying to make them

really do because those eyes really stand out but we have a red shirt so I
think we can do a red shirt let's see I always think I can okay and then I find
out I can't and it's always discouraging but I think
