Hello everyone! Easter is coming
so I thought I should start making some easter themed treats
Today I'm making DIY chocolate eggs and I use egg molds
I bought these prima-mausteet.fi
They sell all kinds of baking tools, kitchen tools etc

But today I'm showing you more ideas
DIY stuff is the most fun
Here I have candy melts
You can find these on grocery stores
or online
There are a lot of colours
You don't need to dye them
These are fake chocolate. They don't contain cocoa butter
You don't need to temper these
While using these molds you need either tempered chocolate or fake chocolate
I have a chocolate tempering video on my youtube channel
So if you are using real chocolate with cocoa butter, you need to temper that
Otherwise the chocolate gets stuck into the molds
or melts into your hands
Melt the chocolate in microwave 400W
intervals of 15-40sec and stirr
Or use double boiler
Here's pink chocolate
If you want this to be runnier, add little bit of oil into the chocolate
But I think this is ok
Pour chocolate into the molds
Spread around
Pour the excess to the bowl
Put your mold to the freezer for 1-2min
If the first coat is too thin, add the second one
I sprinkled some popping candy on top of the chocolate
Candies will be stuck to the melted chocolate
Sprinkle the excess candy
Put the mold to the freezer for 1-2min
of fridge 5-10min
Then I add chocolate to the edges
I let this set upside down
so that edges are thick enought
First coat is set
I add the chocolate
You can cover the popping candy as well
because if the candies get wet, they will start popping
but the chocolate will protect the candies
I cover the edges
so that they will be thick
and our chocolate egg will look pretty
Put the mold to the freezer for 1-2min
of fridge 5min
When chocolate is set
flip over the mold
You can stretch mold a bit and carefully press the chocolate out
Chocolate should pop out quite easily
If you use real untempered chocolate
chocolate will be stuck
Here's our first half. It's nice and shiny
Fake chocolate will stay firm and beautiful on room temperature
You can hide anything inside
Candies or toys
I test these chocolate raisins
Check also Prima's candy selection
Seal the edges with chocolate
You and use brush or spoon
I sealed the other side first and let that set
Then I seal the other side
When chocolate is set, you can clean up the edges with knife
This is one way to do this
Here's the other way
Use our molds
Put the halves into to molds
Put some chocolate to the edges
If candy melts starts to set in bowls, put them back to the microwave
Put chocolate to the both halves
and place the molds together
Close
My molds were a bit deformed after storing
but I used paper clip to close them
Let chocolate set
and remove the mold
It should be easy
Here I have chocolate colours
These are oil based
You can dye chocolate and candy melts with these
Don't use gel colours to the chocolate
because they may ruin the chocolate
Always use oil based colours for chocolate
These are solid on room temperature
so you need to melt them in hot water
Then I paint my molds with these
And you can colour your chocolate as well
If you want to use gel colours, you need to mix them with cream first
but make sure that you have the right temperatures
I paint the mold
Let see what happens
I used pink and yellow
You can also paint the egg
Molds are ready
Add the chocolate
let set and close
Inside the egg I made quick chocolate ganache
Put 1 cup of cream to the pot
Add 200gr of chocolate
Heat until even
You can also whip cream
and add melted chocolate
But this may turn out to be gritty
This is better way
Pour the mixture into the bowl
let cool and put to the fridge over night
This needs to be really cold
Then whisk mixture like cream
Easy and silky ganache is ready
Put ganache into the bag
pipe into the chocolate half
And same to the other half
Then join the molds together again
I use the molds again
Let set in a fridge
You can clean the edges later
I wasn't able to see the colours well
so I decorated this with gold gel paste
Here I have light green caramel apple candy melts
Really nice colour for easter
Fill the molds
Add the second layer if needed
Into the freezer it goes
If the edges are rought, you can fix them with scissors
I put little chocolate eggs into the halves
Outside the egg looks a bit same
Seal the halves
You can use both ways
Here I have variation of candy melts
I put chocolate into the ziploc bag
Then I put bag into the hot water
Cut the corner open and pipe the chocolate
Our neighbour's daughter is Splatoon fan
so I made this to look like the game
I give this to her
There's seems to be some colour stains in the game
Here's the other way how to make spots on your egg
Take candy melts
and add little bit of oreo crush
and mix
And prepare the same way
This tastes good
Into the mold it goes. And let set
Let the excess candy melts set on a baking paper
Put them in the bag or container and use later
You can also decorate chocolate eggs with fondant
Anyway you want
I make Mario and Luigi eggs
Like any other cake decorations
Glue decorations with chocolate
Don't use water
Here's Luigi's hat
I made moustache out of black fondant
I painted M and L letters with edible markers
These are so funny. My kids loved these. Just use your imagination
