to slap hefty tariffs on steel and aluminum imports.

Macron presses Putin to ensure Syria respects UN ceasefire - Duration: 1:52.
International pressure is growing on Russia and its ally, the Syrian government, to stop
hostilities against the rebel-held area of eastern Ghouta.

French President Emmanuel Macron has urged his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to
ensure that Moscow's ally Syria implements a UN resolution calling for a 30-day ceasefire
in eastern Ghouta.
In Monday's phone call with Putin, Macron added that the UN truce should be accepted
"without any ambiguity."
According to the Kremlin, Putin agreed on the importance of providing aid and evacuating
civilians.
Moscow had proposed a daily five-hour truce instead of the UN resolution, but both proposals
have not been met.
The French leader's remark also came after Syrian President Bashar al-Assad vowed to
push ahead with his military's assault on the rebel-held area to wipe out what he's
described as terrorists.
Dozens more civilians were killed Monday as a convoy with humanitarian aid entered eastern
Ghouta amid continued bombardment by pro-regime forces.
The shelling forced the UN convoy to cut short its mission and has now left the enclave.
Aid officials said only 10 of more than 40 trucks managed to offload supplies to civilians.
To make matters worse, the Syrian government was reported to have removed about 70 percent
of goods, including medical kits, before the trucks entered the region.
The move is being seen as efforts to stop rebels being treated.
Syria's military and allied forces have now reclaimed about a third of eastern Ghouta
in a bloody assault that has left more than 700 people dead.

the first such meeting since Kim took power in 2011.

North Korea has hailed it as.... "openhearted" talks.... while the South has said, the meeting
was "not disappointing."
Our Blue House correspondent Moon Connyoung has more.
"The delegation of five officials led by Chung Eui-yong met with Kim Jong-un, chairman of
the North Korean State Affairs Commission on March 5th and had a dinner banquet together
afterwards.
The meeting and dinner banquet lasted 4 hours and 12 minutes beginning at 6 PM, Seoul time."
South Korea's presidential Blue House, early Tuesday morning, released the details of the
first face-to-face between senior South Korean delegates and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un
since he took power upon his father's death in late 2011.
Noting the venue of the meeting-slash-dinner - the headquarters of North Korea's powerful
ruling Workers' Party - the Blue House said it marked the first time for any South Korean
to be invited to the building.
North Korea's state media reported that its leader held an "openhearted talk" with the
South Korean president's envoys... reaching a "satisfactory agreement" about holding an
inter-Korean summit meeting with South Korean President Moon Jae-in.
South Korea's Blue House also acknowledged an agreement reached between the two sides...
adding the outcome of the meeting, which the special delegation will unveil upon return
later this evening "were not disappointing."
In a dispatch, the KCNA said Kim Jong-un expressed his desire to "write a new history of national
reunification" during the welcome dinner... which was also attended by the North Korean
leader's sister, Kim Yo-jong, who traveled to the South last month carrying her brother's
summit invitation to President Moon... and Kim's wife, Ri Sol-ju.
Neither North Korea nor the South's Blue House released the details of the talks or commented
on how the North's Kim responded to the South Korean appeal for Pyongyang to start a dialogue
with Washington on ending the North's nuclear weapons program.
Despite the latest sign that the Koreas are trying to mend ties after a year of repeated
North Korean weapons tests and threats of nuclear war, there is considerable skepticism
over the two Koreas' apparent warming ties.
But each new development also raises the possibility that the two sides can use the momentum from
the good feelings created during North Korea's participation in the South's PyeongChang Winter
Olympics last month to ease a standoff over North Korea's nuclear ambitions and restart
talks between Pyongyang and Washington.
The 10-member delegation, which includes two ministerial-level officials from the South,
will wrap up a two-day trip to Pyongyang later this Tuesday evening... after another meeting
with North Korean officials.

Korea's consumer prices climbed 1.4% y/y in Feb. - Duration: 1:33.
Consumer prices in Korea climbed one-point-four percent last month.
That's quite a bit more than last February.
Data show it was mainly due to higher farm and fisheries prices,... caused by a cold
snap,... and more expensive lodging.

Consumer price increases in Korea were in the one-percent range for the fifth straight
month in February.
Statistics Korea says its consumer price index jumped one-point-four percent in February
compared to the same period last year... a faster rate of increase than the one-percent
on-year gain recorded in January.
The core inflation rate, which excludes volatile food and oil prices, was up one-point-two
percent on-year.
Prices of food, drinks and accommodation increased, while communication prices dropped.
In particular, prices of agricultural and fisheries products spiked due to a cold snap
last month... climbing a whopping three-and-a-half percent on-year... the biggest rate of increase
in five months.
Price rises in the services sector also pushed up consumer prices in February... climbing
one-point-seven percent compared to the same period last year, particularly those related
to food and lodging.
The consumer price index has been hovering near the government's target range of two-percent
between February and September last year...
mainly due to higher petroleum prices and the low base effect due to a nationwide discount
on electricity bills the previous year.
But it fell into the one-percent range since October last year... as prices of vegetables
stabilized before soaring last month.
