In this video you will see and get information about 'How to get ready for Bharatnatyam'
for girls.
In the first half, let's begin with the head.
The items required for this are Cotton black Thread
Needle and dark thread Combo flower (Orange flower between two lines
of white flowers) Single white flower
Raagate Black donut hair bun
Comb Light hair gel
U pins Bobby Pings
Prepare the Raagate by tying it with black cotton thread, which will be later used to
secure it on the head.
Prepare the black hair donut with Raagate by securing the raagate on the black donut
hair bun.
Prepare the combo flowers (one line of orange flowers within two line of white flowers)
for hair by tying black cotton threads with about one inch gap.
Tip: Wash the performer's hair the previous day of the performance.
This will help to style the hair for performance
Prepare hair for styling (short hair with attachment) by brushing the hair and remove
all the knots.
Use little hair gel and tie a high pony with non slippery black hair band
Tie the black donut hair bun with Raagate on the crown of the head just above the high
pony.
1/3 of the bun should be visible from the front.

Mehandi can be used as an alternate.
Tie the hair extension (False braided hair) above the high pony and below the black donut
hair bun.
The hair extension must have black cotton thread to secure to the pony.
Divide the hair just above the high pony and pass the hair extension thread on either side
from bottom to top.
Secure the hair extension and make the performer comfortable.
Hide the high pony hair behind the extension by securing with black cotton thread.
Tie the single white flower strand around the top of donut hair bun with Ragate.
Tie the tri-combo flower strand just below the donut hair bun with Ragate.
Hide extra black threads, secure the flowers and donut with U pins and regular bobby pins.
Hair extension will hurt the dancer's head with its weight.
As you prepare for the makeup, rest the hair extension on the performers shoulder.
Now we move on to makeup.
The items required for makeup are Foundation
Eyebrow pencil Liquid eye liner
Eye Shadow Blush
Lip Liner Lipstick
Lipstick Brush Bindi
Foundation Sponge
Foundation is used to even out the color and skin tone of the body.
Apply the foundation on face, neck, ears and hands.
Blend the foundation evenly with foundation sponge.
Brush the eyebrows and highlight them with 'eyebrow pencil'.
Use liquid, water proof, eye liner for the eyes.
On the upper eyelid, draw the outline and fill the gaps.
Eyes should not be opened until the liner dries.
After the upper liner dries, apply the liner on the bottom of the eyelid.
Apply a lighter shade or white or silver, eye shadow on the top close to the eyebrow.
Apply pink or violet color below the eyebrow.
Use cotton swab to blend the colors.
Outline the lips with lip liner
and apply the lipstick with lipstick brush
Apply mascara to both upper and lower eye lids.
Apply blush on cheeks and it blend it well.
Apply bindi or kumkum and other forehead decoration as needed.
The last part is jewelry.
After the dancer wears the dress for performance, begin by tying black cotton thread on the
round opening just below the clip of the mati.
Wear the mati along with the ear jhumkas.
Secure both the ear matis on the forehead with threads and bobby pins.
Tie black cotton thread on the round opening at the end and at the join of the front piece
of the 'center head piece'.
Please the center piece on the forehead, secure the back thread and ensure the front thread
goes below the mati.
Prepare the Surya and Chandra with black thread.
Surya is on the right and chandra is on the left side of the performer's head.
The top of the chandra with three beads should point to the top.
Use bobby pins to secure the surya and chandra into position.
Add additional jewelry as needed.
If using a long necklace, pin it to the performer dress.
Tie the waist belt.
Tie the hair extension to the waist belt with extra gap for the performer to move her head
with comfort.
This will keep the hair extension in place while dancing.
