It's not too uncommon for stars to strip down to next to nothing for a role on the big screen.
But outside of acting, a bunch of celebs have actually worked as exotic dancers before,
during, and after they made it big.
In fact, many big names wear their past profession like a badge of honor.
Here's a look at some famous faces who've stripped for cash.
Mark Consuelos
Talk show host Kelly Ripa's interview with Vanity Fair took a surprising turn when her
husband's past as a go-go boy came up in conversation.
Never one to hold back, Ripa gladly spilled the tea about Mark Consuelos's former profession,
saying,
"He was straight out of college.
[…] He's gorgeous, looking to break into show business, so he started off as a roadie
to a group of these guys, and then they talked him into stripping."
Consuelos even showed Ripa pictures from his stripper days, and she's the proud owner of
a calendar featuring her husband in all of his go-go boy glory.
Courtney Love
If you were around in the '80s, you might've run into Hole frontwoman Courtney Love at
a number of Los Angeles strip clubs.
At the time, she was desperately trying to make money to fund her alternative rock band.
The strip club that gave her the most work was reportedly the legendary Jumbo's Clown
Room in Los Angeles, but she told LA Weekly that she bounced around to a few different
spots.
After her shifts, the grunge rocker would give the band's guitarist $3 for every $5
she made.
She said,
"And that's how we bought our van and we bought our backline."
In a 1992 interview with Vanity Fair, Love also admitted she wasn't in the best shape
throughout her years as a dancer.
In her words:
"I was fat then.
You can be fat and strip."
Channing Tatum
We've all seen Channing Tatum gyrate like his life depended on it as the star and the
producer of the uber successful Magic Mike films.
And it turns out he got all the preparation he needed during his ascent to superstardom.
In 2014, Us Weekly published an exclusive video showing Tatum stripping down to a thong
for a gaggle of screaming patrons.
The actor's PR team was reportedly mortified when the footage surface, but Tatum told GQ,
"I had wanted to tell people.
[…] I'm not ashamed of it.
I don't regret one thing.
I'm not a person who hides s---."
According to GQ, after dropping out of college, Tatum ditched his mundane jobs and decided
to ditch his clothes as well.
So how did he do as a stripper?
"On a normal night…
$150..
$150, that's it.
But you only work for like an hour and a half."
Kendra Wilkinson
Long before Kendra Wilkinson was living in the lap of luxury in the Playboy mansion on
E!'s The Girls Next Door, she described her life as a, quote, "uphill battle."
In her memoir Sliding Into Home, Wilkinson says she grew up as a party girl, experimented
with drugs at the age of 13, and even worked as a stripper.
She told Today,
"I always knew that was wrong.
I kind of lost myself for a little bit."
Jake Pavelka
In 2012, The Bachelor's Jake Pavelka took a break from living his life on the small
screen to become a Chippendales dancer in Las Vegas.
According to TMZ, the reality star was hired to host the all-male revue at the Rio hotel.
Although the event is known for showcasing beefy men who strip down to almost nothing,
Pavelka wasn't required to drop trou.
He told RadarOnline,
"I'm intimidated to shake it on stage."
It takes guts to agree to join such an iconic troupe, but we wonder if Pavelka's fear of
getting jiggy with it harmed his stripping career.
He has not returned as the host of the male striptease — so take that as you will.
Cardi B is not ashamed
With successful songs, such as "Bodak Yellow" and "Bartier Cardi," Cardi B has more than
enough cash to make it rain at any strip club.
However, there was once a time when the rapper was the one being showered with dollar bills.
According to The Fader, she turned to stripping at the age of 19, but hid it from her family.
"Thoughts of your parents pop up in your head.
[...] I hid it for like two years from my family, from everybody.
You know what I told them?
I told them I was babysitting for some real rich white people."
On her 23rd birthday, having become a social media star, Cardi B left exotic dancing behind.
She secured a spot on the VH1 series, Love & Hip Hop New York, but she told The Fader
she wasn't too happy when producers attempted to typecast her.
"They just wanted to make me look as the stripper, a struggling stripper."
With her music career going strong, her dancing days are now behind her, but Cardi B will
never forget her humble roots.
She told The Guardian,
"People want me to be so full of shame that I used to dance.
I would never be ashamed of it."
Chris Pratt
He may have taken home $12 million to star in the 2016 film Passengers, but there was
once a time when Chris Pratt was struggling to make ends meet.
In a revealing interview with BuzzFeed, the Guardians of the Galaxy star said he performed
a plethora of odd jobs pre-fame, but decided to make a career out of being in the buff.
He explained,
"I was always a very much naked person.
I loved to always get naked.
I was very free, so I thought, I may as well get paid."
Pratt admitted that he would perform at parties, and even auditioned to dance at an actual
strip club, but his sub-par moves may have hindered him.
In his words?
"I'm the best, like, bad dancer."
