My 1st Year in the JSE Community (And 1,000 Subscribbler special-) - Duration: 3:40.

Welcome to paps first year in the JSE community y E E t. I'm the type of person who goes off on tangents about everything

So I'll try my best to make this short and sweet and focus on the greater topics this year

Let's start in January. In January I first started creating art for the JSE community

I had very little experience in digital artwork or basically artwork in general, but I was pumped

Positive mental attitude was being risen in the community, I started animating, and I first started up my fan art social media accounts

I had social media accounts before but I felt that now since I wanted to be an in quotes, 'artist'

I'd have to make myself new and professional and I started with a blank slate online

I made a few friends in my first two months mostly on tumblr

I also had a goal to make an animatic for the channel once every month because I was very

Inactive on the old channel at the time and made unintentionally cringy undertale videos

I felt the channel was basically dead anyways, so I made a new one. I

Started from scratch and set myself up a new reputation. I watched lots of speedpaints

So I learned more and I was starting to make a name for myself by April. In May

It was also my first time experiencing the community burning because of anti appearances in the outros and stuff, which was a lot of fun

Soon summer came in and with all the time I had on my hands

I made a lot of improvement on my art and I was doing better than ever

I got noticed by Jack every now and then even when not even seven months ago

I thought it would be only possible through YouTube for me to get a notice

one day while I was on tumblr I got and asked from someone named oramzie-doodles asking me if we wanted to do a

Collab I said yes, and we texted a bit. She then said something about being in a game development team called Nerdy K!wi studios

She invited me to join and while I was nervous that I would be too young to be taken seriously

Everyone welcomed me with open arms and I met so many nice people through them the game we're making is called

'How Did They Get Here' and I'm an artist for it

I'm super pumped for you guys to see what this team will create in 2019 and 2020

The next half of the year was pretty hard for me, seventh grade started and I sucked at it

I wasn't bullied or lost friends or anything, but just the classes in general

I sucked at and my parents were convinced

I wasn't even trying

I was really attached to the community at the time and I also couldn't go to the tour which hurt a whole lot because Jack was

Literally ten minutes away from me, but we had to go up north for my brother's football game

Then since my grades were dropping to a C I got my phone and my TV taken away for two months

Which were my only connections to the community. I was in a really bad spot the last part of the year long story short

I made up my grades with major help from my friend Elie. Thank you so much Elie-I'm sorry. I keep calling you friend

So at this point it was December

Jack did his charity stream which he saw my art on which was awesome because I never thought he'd see my art on camera, even

If they did think it looked like BTS

For my birthday on the 22nd. I got a drawing tablet. So now I don't have to draw on my phone and stuff

So in summary, I think I showed lots of improvement

Thank you all so much for being here throughout this year and thank you for 1k subs

In a single year we managed to get like over thousands of you on my social media and I'm still shocked

That's more people on my channel and social media than people in my school

It's crazy having you all here

Anyways, I won't ramble much since I've said enough already, y E e t, but seriously, thank you all for being here

I hope 2019 will be a great year for the community. I guess I'll see you guys later in 2019

How Swiss businesses are fighting the plight of microplastics - Duration: 4:10.

Nature, untouched, in Switzerland.

Or so you'd think.

Today, it is almost impossible to find a soil or water sample

that does not contain traces of plastic.

If these traces are microscopic, then the term is "microplastics".

Where this plastic comes from and where it gets deposited -

research into this area is just beginning.

Nevertheless, a lot has already been done to lessen

the deluge of plastics.

At Migros, for example.

After cosmetic products, it now wants

to produce laundry detergents and cleaning products that are free of microplastics.

The first microplastics-free product should be on the shelves

next March, says Migros subsidiary Mibelle.

We're removing microplastics from the product,

since the latest research findings

are showing a reliable picture of how much microplastics harm the environment.

We're tackling the issue head on, because there are now technical solutions

to replace the microplastics in our products.

One alternative to plastics used by Mibelle

is small cellulose beads or grated lemon peel.

But laundry produces another source of microplastics.

Clothing made from synthetic fibres.

The Empa research institute is currently examining

plastics in the environment.

With laundry, most of the plastics do not end up in nature,

as environmental scientist Bernd Nowack explains.

First, the plastic ends up at treatment plants together with the waste water.

And these plants are built

to fish parts and particles out of the water.

And they do this very efficiently.

Microplastics, too, are for the most part removed

from the water.

That means that, relatively speaking, very little ends up in the environment.

Especially as, in Switzerland, sewage sludge is also burned

and the plastic removed.

The microplastics from car tyres do not end up in treatment plants, however.

According to a study recently published in Germany,

over 30% of microplastics come from tyres.

Manufacturers now have to do something about that.

Basically, there is physically no way to avoid

a certain amount of tyre abrasion.

That's why we strive to research and develop

tyre compounds with lower abrasion rates,

thereby minimizing what ends up in the environment.

This also involves abrasion tests in the laboratory.

Continental is also taking part in a research project

with street-cleaning and waste-water companies

to find out just how plastic ends up in the environment.

Discarded litter is a further factor

in plastic ending up in nature.

The primary culprits are cigarette butts,

as demonstrated by a survey of Swiss riverbanks this year.

Here, the tobacco industry is putting the onus on its own customers.

In itself, consuming tobacco products does not pollute the environment

with microplastics.

It really is

the careless disposal of the product

that leads to this problem.

And the solution to this lies squarely with smokers.

We're calling on them.

Smokers are not the only culprits, however.

Littering in Switzerland -

and the results of the Empa study so far show this -

is the biggest cause of plastic in the environment.

Here in Switzerland, as demonstrated by our model calculations,

littering is one of the most important mechanisms in

microplastics ending up in the environment.

People and plastic.

A very intimate relationship over just 70 years.

The risky aspects of this relationship are slowly becoming visible.

From Andermatt to Sedrun – one huge skiing area - Duration: 2:56.

An idea hatched ten years ago has become reality.

The ribbon has been cut,

and the cable car up the Schneehühnerstock

completes the link between Andermatt and Sedrun.

It took three long years to build the 14 new cableways and lifts.

The new ski area has 120 km of pistes.

It's a dream come true.

I always wanted to make Andermatt a top-notch destination,

and without the wonderful pistes that have been created

and the link-up, that wouldn't have been possible.

Egyptian investor Samih Sawiris has invested over

900 million francs in the Andermatt resort to date.

At the same time as the new ski area was inaugurated,

a second hotel was also opened.

It's also hoped that sales of apartments will gain momentum.

The new ski area has a total of 22 lifts.

This hugte project in unspoilt scenery

is a worry to quite a few Uri locals.

Pro Natura, for example, accepted the linking lift

through gritted teeth,

but blocked the construction of additional pistes.

For all the euphoria, it's important that some people

also take a critical view of these events.

And think about what we're doing to the landscape.

Pia Tresch, too, will be watching what the operators get up to.

For instance as regards operating hours:

So for example they're trying out

night-time cable car services up the Schneehühnerstock.

Yet the operating licence stated quite clearly

that it wouldn't run at night.

They are doing various things

to make try and make it more profitable.

When asked about this criticism from Pro Natura,

Samih Sawiris promises to take the environment into consideration.

Never before had he needed to meet so many conditions

as for this project in Switzerland,

though he sees it has definite advantages.

It's a lengthy process, but a good one.

That makes it much simpler than in other places

where things happen much faster.

It's up to Canton Uri to make sure that

conditions governing the ski area are actually met.

We work very closely with the environmental groups.

We imposed an incredible number of conditions on the skilift operators -

over 1,000 in all, though not all regarding the environment.

The permit alone ran to 1300 pages - it's a big deal.

We've set standards in terms of environmental protection.

As of this season, it'll get busy

in the hitherto unspoilt mountain scenery.

According to the operators,

this is needed to make the Andermatt resort an overall success.
