On this episode of China Uncensored,

gun control?

To the Chinese regime,

that means using both hands...

to give guns to some of the world's worst violators of human rights.

Welcome back to China Uncensored,

I'm Chris Chappell.

Sorry, these guns.

They're part of 22 million dollars worth of guns and ammunition

the Chinese regime has just donated to the Philippines.

The donation includes 3,000 assault rifles,

3 million rounds of assorted ammunition,

and 30 sniper scopes.

Look at those happy faces.

You can almost hear him going,

"pew pew pew!"

Though it's less funny

when you consider that the president of the Philippines

has bragged about personally using guns to kill people.

Now you may think 22 million dollars in weapons

isn't all that much,

since you couldn't even buy

one antique Chinese bowl with that!

But it's just the latest in around 300 million dollars,

"in military and disaster relief assistance

in a little over a year."

And you could buy a lot of those antique bowls

with 300 million dollars.

Well, seven of them.

Plus 800 of these antique spoons.

The Chinese ambassador to the Philippines Zhao Jianhua

said the weapons deal was a sign that,

"China is a sincere friend

and sincere partner [to the Philippines],

and will remain so forever."

So why, you ask,

is China so generous with its arms?

Well, it actually follows a strategy

the Chinese Communist Party is using around the world.

Buying friends with the the most loving gift of all:

deadly weapons.

Last year,

following concerns that Filipino President Duterte's War on Drugs

was devolving into roving death squads killing loads of people

outside the law,

the United States blocked the sale of 26,000 rifles.

But does the Chinese Communist Party care

whether the Philippines shoots some piddly little drug dealers,

or people who may or may not be drug dealers?

Or users?

Or students?

No way!

That's because

"China is vying to become Southeast Asia's primary weapons vendor."

And the Chinese regime won't have any strings attached.

Strings like requiring the governments they work with

to follow the rule of law or whatever.

The Pakistan government refuses to stop terrorists?

No problem!

The Chinese regime has sold their navy

$4 billion dollars worth of submarines.

The US condemns Myanmar for ethnic cleansing?

No worries,

"China is Myanmar's biggest supplier of weapons,

providing most of its fighter aircraft,

armoured vehicles,

guns and naval ships."

In fact,

the top three buyers of Chinese weapons

are Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Myanmar.

Look, the Chinese regime just sells the weapons.

What other governments do with them is their own business.

Guns don't kill people.

Oppressive regimes kill people.

With Chinese guns.

And it's not just in Southeast Asia.

It's the Middle East,

Africa,

and Latin American as well.

Last year,

an Iraqi drone strike accidentally killed anti-ISIS fighters.

It was a Chinese drone.

In July,

Venezuela's national guard chief said they were,

"'saving lives' by using riot-control gear supplied by China

when confronting anti-government protests."

Let's look at that.

Clearly,

a lot of life-saving going on here.

China has been selling a variety of weaponry

to Caribbean and Latin American nations, too.

And when it comes to drones,

China wants to be part of a potentially 10 billion dollar market.

It's this kind of sell-to-anybody attitude

that has put China in a position to battle it out

for the world's third-largest arms dealer.

Of course,

as you can also see from this chart,

no one can come close to exporting as much weapons

as the US and Russia.

But the US would never sell weapons

to countries with bad human rights records.

Maybe I should do America Uncensored.

But it's still true that China

is a special kind of arms dealer.

China's clients are countries,

"either too poor to buy Western or Russian armaments,

or who are subjected to arms embargoes

(such as Venezuela)."

The US is at least more selective about what countries it sells to,

and the stuff that's made in America is usually pretty good quality.

On the other hand,

most of what China sells is,

let's just say it's more on the

Robert Cop side of the spectrum.

Like that time China sold four brand new attack helicopters to Cameroon.

And then "One of them crashed shortly after delivery."

Hmmm...

That's not good.

Well, at least cheap Chinese weapons

have "become popular with warlords, rebel

and militias around the world".

Fortunately for the the buyers of Chinese weapons,

the quality of made-in-China is getting better.

Like that CH-4 drone that

"experts believe...was engineered using information

stolen from U.S. defense contractors."

Intellectual property theft?

We should take it as a compliment that America's killing machines are so good,

China wants them too.

And as long as there are countries

who don't mind pointing guns at their own citizens,

the Chinese Communist Party will be there

to make sure they have the guns to do it.

And if no one wants to buy them,

China will donate them.

Did you hear about the head transplant planned for end of this year / start of next year?

Lead by the Italain neurosurgeon Sergio Canavero

and assisted by a Chinese group lead by Xiaoping Ren

They plan to take a head of a person with a diseased body, and place it on body of brain dead person

Can you imagine how much problems can this procedure solve

There will be no incurable diseases

When there is a problem, just change the body! No medications, No chemo, No long follow ups!

But..

Wait...

The success of this operation at the present time remains science fiction

It is also not ethical or scientific.. at least at the present time

Before you start thinking about how all great inventors were considered crazy and their ideas trashed by others

I would like to assure you that this is not the case here.

We live in an area where most believe in science and its advancement

Expecting this operation to fail is not an example of opposing advancement in science

To be able to explain the real problem at hand.. I need few minutes of your time

The first rule of medicine is "do no harm"

that is why advancement in medical science through research takes time

the main purpose is ensure the safety and efficacy of new medications and interventions before testing them on humans

It an issue is noted, researcher take a step back to try to avoid harm to patients

We all know the game "the snake and ladder"

where the objective is to reach the end of the board. ladders can help you skip parts of the journey and snakes can make you repeat parts.

Like wise is medical research. The difference is that in medical research, using ladders is prohibited!

You start with the idea, then have it tested on the bench.

Afterwards, it can be tested on animals in part and as a whole

After ensuring initial success, it can be tested on human volunteers before it can be provided to patients

The medication or intervention gets approved and start appearing on guidelines then finds its ways to medical textbooks

Using a ladder to skip parts of this journey is unethical and also not scientific

Because it exposes patients to medications or interventions that are not well tested and may cause unknown harm

THAT IS THE PROBLEM HERE!!

Canavero revealed his ideas without real research to stand by his thoughts

He went on to describe the procedure and even pick his patient

But without having the bare minimum bench and animal research to provide proof that this is actually possible!

it was like using a long ladder that takes him from the idea to the end!

The problem was evident and so he and his team tried to re mediate the problem by doing more research to fill in the gaps

They were able to publish (or demonstrate) some research work during the past couple of years that support their proposal to perform the first human head transplant

The head is arguable the most important part of the body. It has the brain stem which is largely responsible for consciousness and vital body functions

The death of an individual happens when the brain stem dies

So when the plan is to take a head of a body and connecting it to another. We have to be pretty sure we have studied all the important aspects. It is a big deal!

We need to be sure we can supply enough blood to the head

We need to be sure we connect the nervous system with return of function

We need to be sure we can stabilize the head on the new body and have an idea about expected mobility

We need to be sure we can connect the gastrointestinal and respiratory tracts

What about the immune system, will it attack the head? what can be expected?

This is the least amount of information we need to gather before embarking on a human head transplant trial

Let's look at what they have demonstrated in the research work performed

They were able to demonstrate that the the blood supply can be maintained to an amputated head of a mouse through another mouse's body.

Although this is an important milestone. It is actually nothing new. similar research has been done before

This is a mere replication of previous experiments

An this head will eventually die off due to rejection as seen in previous experiments

However, we can consider this part covered. This can be done!

Lets now get to the difficult aspect

Connecting the nervous system

There is no study that demonstrated a successful connection of the nervous system between an amputated head and a receiving body in animal studies

(success: meaning recovering the ability to feel and control the body by the new transplanted head)

Although this photo is now popular. showing a monkey head transplant. The research team did not demonstrate spinal cord connection

Actually this monkey was euthanized not long after surgery

The absence of convincing research that the neuronal connection can be achieved is problematic

So other studies performed by the Chinese team demonstrated the ability to sever and re-attache the spinal cord in rats and dogs

with subsequent regain in motor function over time

This is actually great! and may hold promise.

But this "success" does not translate to the "success" of head transplant. It is quiet different.

drawing this connection is misleading and dishonest

Furthermore, fish, rodents and canines are known to have better ability to regain function after spinal cord injury than humans. Similar results in humans remain questionable

Can we really transfer a head to a body and expect the body to have preserved function of its vital organs? like breathing for example?

Here we reach to one of the most popular experiments done by Canavero and his Chinese collaborators

In this experiment they demonstrated the ability to do that in mice!

There is one very important detail here!

In this experiment, the heads were divided in 2 different locations to preserve a functioning brain stem to the head and the body

So it is expected - in this scenario - that the body as well as the head remained "alive"

This does not mean that they were "connected" neurologically

Such an experiment can never be conducted on humans. Otherwise you will be using the body of an "ALIVE" person

I was not able to find studies looking at other important aspects, such as the immunologic aspect and others

So, although the research team claim "success" in their experiments.

You can see that these successes are not necessarily in complete alignment with the ultimate goal

However, through media coverage, it conveys a deceiving message to people.

In fact, we are still very far from being ready to perform human head transplant

With the current available scientific evidence. It remains unscientific and unethical

However, my real goal from this episode is not to say that the human head transplant is distant to fail

I know this has no real value when it comes to your health

But it is a good example to demonstrate few important points

1. Scientific research cannot be summed by a successful study.

It is a continuum of work that is evaluated and built on before drawing final conclusions or initiating human trials.

2. Not all research results can be generalized. Research can carry results that needs further scrutiny and repetition.

Also, research work vary in their quality and reliability.

Evaluating medical research is not an easy task. and it needs someone who is well read and have sufficient background in the topic.

3. Although you may never need a head transplant.

But the halo of "research" is now commonly used to advertise unproven remedies.

Having a positive conclusion on a research paper -per say- is not enough to prove anything

North Korea soldier makes daring defection to South Korea across JSA - Duration: 2:01.

A North Korean soldier defects to the South in the most unexpected way: Crossing the border

at the heavily guarded Joint Security Area.

As troops stationed in the frontline are believed to be handpicked for their loyalty, this could

severely bruise the regime's military pride.

He was shot at by men from his side, but was picked up by South Korean soldiers and was

taken to the hospital.

For details on the daring escape, we turn to our Kwon Jang-ho

The Joint Security Area -- located on the border between the two Koreas

and the only place where soldiers from the two sides stand face-to-face.

And at three-thirty-one PM on Monda, a lone North Korean soldier ran from a guard post

on the northern side, and crossed over the Military Demarcation Line into South Korean

territory.

The soldier suffered from gunshot wounds to his shoulder and elbow from North Korean forces

while defecting.

Upon hearing the shots, South Korean soldiers raised the alarm, but the defector was not

discovered until 25 minutes later, collapsed on the ground, 50-meters from the border and

bleeding from his wounds.

(Korean) Our soldiers safely retrieved the defector,

and urgently evacuated him to hospital to treat his injuries.

He was airlifted by a United Nations Command helicopter to Ajou University Medical Center

in Suwon, just south of Seoul, where he underwent surgery.

The defector is thought to be in his twenties or thirties, and wore a uniform of low rank.

Defecting through the JSA is extremely rare, with only two previous instances in 1998 and

2007.

South Korean authorities have reassured that there was no altercation between South and

North Korean soldiers, but added that Seoul will remain alert to any possible provocations.

It's been almost two months since North Korea last carried out a ballistic missile test,

or any other provocation, and many have hoped that this signalled an easing of tensions

on the peninsula.

It's currently unclear what response Pyongyang will give to Monday's incident.

South Korea pushes to foster homegrown, mega-sized Investment Banks - Duration: 2:07.

South Korea has been pushing to foster its own home-grown, mega-sized Investment Banks

modeled after Goldman Sachs since 2011.

At last, the country's top regulator has allowed five IBs to expand their businesses beyond

brokerage services.

Won Jung-hwan sheds light on this development.

The Financial Services Commission, the country's top financial regulator, issued a license

Monday to Korea Investment and Securities... allowing it to issue promissory notes and

short-term corporate financing.

There are four other securities firms -- Mirae Asset Daewoo, NH Investment and Securities,

KB Securities, and Samsung Securities -- that are also expected to get the go-ahead in the

near future.

The preparations to nurture giant investment banks in Korea started back in 2011 with a

regulatory roadmap to creating a so-called Korean version of Goldman Sachs.

But local securities firms didn't yet have the capital.

So last year, the financial authorities announced a plan to permit securities firms... that

met a threshold of at least 3.6 billion U.S. dollars of equity capital to go into short-term

corporate lending.

Those with 7.2 billon dollars or more would be allowed to launch management accounts for

corporate investors.

Those changes put the big five securities companies on their way to becoming homegrown

giant investment banks, and with Monday's decision, the first one now has the right

to issue notes.

But the traditional banking sector wants the decision to be put on hold as it could disrupt

the corporate finance industry.

The Korean Federation of Banks said the local securities industry lacks an oversight system

to manage the issuance of such notes.

Short-term corporate financing has traditionally been the province of commercial banks, which

are subject to stricter rules and capital requirements.

So there is some concern that the creation homegrown, mega-sized investment banks in

Korea could destabilize the industry, especially amid a lack of regulation.

Death toll from earthquake in Iran-Iraq rises to more than 300 - Duration: 1:38.

Over in the middle east.

A deadly quake struck the border region between Iran and Iraq on Sunday.

Officials say the disaster took more than 300 lives, but the death toll continues to

rise.

Cho Sung min has the latest.

Iran's state-run new agency IRNA said Monday that at least 328 people were killed and more

than 39-hundred were injured when a powerful earthquake struck near the borders of Iran

and Iraq on Sunday local time.

The agency reported that a majority of the victims came from Sarpol-e-Zahab, a town located

in Iran's western Kermanshah province.

The Iranian army has set up temporary stations for medical services... as the only hospital

in the town was heavily damaged.

The Iranian Health Department is asking citizens to donate blood for the injured.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the magnitude 7-point-3 quake was centered 31

kilometers outside the Iraqi city of Halabja.

The tremors were felt as far away as the Mediterranean coast... and as far down south as Baghdad.

Rescue operations are underway in several regions to reach the many survivors still

trapped under the rubble, but those efforts are being hindered by landslides.

Iranian state TV reported at least 14 provinces, or about half of them, have been affected

by them.

Meanwhile, in Iraq,... the worst damage was reported in the town of Darbandikhan, where

at least seven people were killed and more than 30 were injured.

Turkey sent emergency personnel to northern Iraq using a cargo plane and dozens of trucks

packed with emergency supplies.

How to Crochet Vespa Crochet Cowl Motifs with Chart Part 1 Right Hand Crocheter - Duration: 9:11.

hi I'm Kristin Omdahl and welcome to my studio today we're going to learn how

to make the Vespa crochet motif cowl I'm going to show you how to follow along

with charts and line by line instructions to make this beautiful and

simple cowl it's a wonderful piece to wear it just slips right over your head

you can do it in one color of yarn two colors of yarn or in three colors

like I've done here it takes three balls of be so tender

yarn which is 100% organic worsted weight cotton and you're also

going to need a size J (6mm) crochet hook let's get started in the first video

learn how to crochet the square motif in the second video learn how to crochet

the triangle motif and join as you go

I'd like to start by showing you how to read the square motif chart and if

you're reading it for right-handed you're going to work counterclockwise

and if you're reading it for left-handed you're going to be working clockwise so

let's get started you first you want to recognize the symbols in the key we have

slip stitch chain single crochet half double crochet double crochet a v-stitch

which is a double crochet chain one double crochet a three double crochet

cluster and two double crochets together we're going to start with round one

which is to chain one two three four five and slip stitch to join I will be

showing you what we do for each round on here before we begin first you want to

tie your yarn to your crochet hook with whatever method you prefer I prefer a

solid knot you can do a slip knot if you prefer and we're going to chain 5 slip

stitch to the fifth chain from our hook to join and now we have that first chain

5 ring complete round 2 begins with a chain 4 that counts as a double crochet

and double crochet in the ring chain 3, 3 double crochet cluster in the ring chain

3 V stitch in the ring chain 3, 3 double crochet cluster in the ring chain 3 and

so on and we're going to repeat that all the way around until we have a total of

4 V stitches and four cluster stitches and then when we come to the end of the

round I'll show you how we replicate a chain 3 with a chain one half double

crochet and I'll tell you why when we get there so now we'll start with a

chain 4 that counted as our double crochet chain 1 and we'll double crochet

in the ring case you're not familiar a double crochet is yarn over insert your

hook yarn over pull up a loop yarn over pull through two loops on your hook yarn

over pull through two loops on your hook chain 3 and now we're going to work a

three double crochet cluster in the ring yarn over and

your hook yarn over pull up a loop yarn over pull through two yarn over insert

your hook in the ring yarn over pull up a loop yarn over pull through two yarn

over insert your hook in the ring yarn over pull up a loop yarn over pull

through two so now we have four loops on our hook yarn over pull through all four

chain three so now we're going to repeat four times of a V stitch chain three

cluster stitch chain three but only that first one started with the chains a V

stitch for the rest of the round is double crochet chain one double crochet

so you want to do that all the way around and I'll show you how we finished

this round okay we've come to the end of the round

and now we're going to replace our last chain three with a chain one and a half

double crochet into the third of the chain four at the beginning of the round

to join so yarn over insert your hook in the specified chain yarn over pull up a

loop yarn over and pull through all three the reason we did that is because

we want to position ourselves in the top center of that chain three space if we'd

have just done a regular chain 3 and slip stitch to join we would have ended

on the end of the chain three space and we want to position ourself in the

center top of it for beginning the next round so this is what the end of that

round should look like and it's really great when you're following charts that

you can actually recognize and make sure that your work looks like the work in

the chart because charts are actually anatomically correct so now we'll go

ahead and take a look at the next round it starts with a chain one single

crochet in the same space we're going to chain 3 3 double crochet cluster in the

next chain one space chain 3 single crochet in the next chain three space

chain 5 single crochet in the next chain 3 space and you'll see we're going to be

repeating that all the way around so we're going to so you want to repeat

that until you have four sets of the cluster stitch I'll show you how we get

started single crochet in the same space chain 3

and now we're going to work a three double crochet cluster in the next

chain-1 space

Chain three single crochet in the next chain three space chain five single

crochet in the next chain three space chain three and then we'll repeat this

around until we have four of the clusters on our last repeat we end with

a chain 5 and slip stitch to the single crochet at the beginning of the round to

join and this is what the end of this round should look like and we'll set it

down next to our work this is the round that is marked in black on the chart and

you can see that we're starting to really resemble the chart in our yarn

motif okay we're ready to begin our last round now which means we're going to

slip stitch into the first chain three space chain one single crochet into the

same chain three space work a double crochet two together in that same chain

three space and the next chain three space work a chain three picot chain 3

and single crochet in the next chain three space chain five three double

crochet cluster in the next chain five space chain 5 and single crochet in the

next chain three space and this is what we will repeat all the way around four

times total okay so we'll start with a slip stitch into the first chain three

space chain one single crochet into the same space chain three and now we're

going to work a two double crochet together in this same chain three space

and the next one so yarn over insert your hook in the chain three space yarn

over pull up a loop yarn over pull through two now in the next chain three

space yarn over insert your hook pull up a loop yarn over pull through two now

yarn over and pull through all three loops on your hook next is a chain three

picot chain 3 slip stitch into the third chain from your hook chain three and now

we're going to single crochet in the same chain three space that we work

the last leg the double crochet two together chain

five in the next chain five space we're going to work a three double crochet

cluster

chain 5 and single crochet in the next chain 3 space that's our repeat we're

going to do that four times and then I'll show you how we end the round the

last repeat ends with a chain 5 and slip stitch to the first single crochet at

the beginning of the round to join and this is what the end of our final square

motif looks like you want to fasten that off of course and weave in your loose

ends but if you've line it up next to the chart you can see that it looks very

similar to the chart so if you were concerned that you might have made a

mistake it's a really great idea to line it up side by side so you can see where

you might have gone wrong please watch the second video to learn how to crochet
