Animating Elastic Rods With Sound | Two Minute Papers #175 - Duration: 3:27.Dear Fellow Scholars, this is Two Minute Papers with Károly Zsolnai-Fehér.
In the series, we talk a lot about photorealistic rendering and making sure that the appearance
of our virtual objects is simulated properly.
A lot of works on how things look.
However, in order to create a more complete sensorial experience, we also have to simulate
how these things sound.
And today, we're going to have a look at a really cool piece of work that simulates the
sound of virtual elastic rods made of aluminum, steel, oak tree, and rubber.
And of course, before you ask, this also means that there will be sound simulations of everyone's
favorite toy - the walking slinky.
As for all papers that have anything to do with sound synthesis, I recommend using a
pair of headphones for this episode.
The sound emerging from these elastic rods is particularly difficult to simulate because
of the fact that sound frequencies vary quite a bit over time, and the objects themselves
are also in motion and subject to deformations during the simulation.
And as you will see with the slinky, we potentially have tens of thousands of contact events in
the meantime.
Let's have a look at some results!
For the Fellow Scholars who are worried about the validity of these Star Wars sounds, I
know you're out there, make sure to watch the video until the end.
The authors of the paper proposed a dipole model to create these simulations.
Dipoles are typically used to approximate electric and magnetic fields in physics, and
in this case, it is really amazing to see an application of it for sound synthesis.
For instance, in most cases, these sound waves are typically symmetric around 2D cross sections
of these objects, which can be described by a dipole model quite well.
Also, it is computationally quite effective and can eliminate these lengthy pre-computation
steps that are typically present in previous techniques.
There are also comparisons against the state of the art, and we can hear how much richer
the sound of this new technique is.
And as you know all too well, I love all papers that have something to do with the real world
around us.
And the reason for this is that we can try the very best kind of validation for these
algorithms - and this is, when we let reality be our judge.
Some frequency plots are also available to validate the output of the algorithm against
the real-world sound samples from the lab.
It is really amazing to see that we can use science to breathe more life in our virtual
worlds.
Thanks for watching and for your generous support, and I'll see you next time!

Music: Actress Arranger: Xue zhi qian Translater: Jvji234
Simply
lets speak in simple terms.
Please ignore the temperamental state of mind
You aren't an actress
Don't make up any of those plots.
No opinion
I just want to see how you justify
You act like you are sad as if an actress untalented
Fake acting won't live through a glance
I should've pretend that I have not seen through your act
As if you were forcing the one that loved you to improvise
When can we ever be straight forward?
When times we can learn to be honest rather mask our feeling with thosedull performances
But you prefer to act like you loved me
What should I change to accommodate my feeling of despair?
What comes after a couple sees each other through
Hence the real challenge
No opinion
You do whatever you like
You lack acting skills as well as don't expected to give a thankfulspeech
Let's take separation as it comes
I should've pretend that I have not seen through your act
Don't force the one who loved you to improvise
When can we ever get to the bottom line?
Voluntary ignorance has overcome the solemn sentiment of pity
Yet you prefer to act like you still in love with me
What am I meant to become to complement your act?
As it turns out, being able to let go of what we guarded while we loved
Had a deadline
After all I am the only audience for your show
You express a slight disappointment of letting go
It seems that our feelings for each is still lingering
Clinging to the past
Breaking up is easier said than done
The more we try to hold onto the more we fear to let go
If we can predict how the show is going to end
Is it still worth to watch?
I am striving so hard to keep up with your performance as I should
Like those TV celebrities waiting to be put on stage
Only If you can see the side of me that loves you still
Please cut out those plots and let me have some dignity
Yet your love has put me on stage
An apathetic attitude has become my last act
I act because I am in love with you, Sacrificed for you
Thank you for watching my video (or translater) If you like this video please one like or subscribe....

😌😌 4 Exercises For Sciatica Pain Relief | Natural Home Cures 😌😌 - Duration: 2:39.4 Exercises For Sciatica Pain Relief
Sciatica is more than just a literal pain in the butt.
When it strikes, it can cause misery and debilitating pain, instantly putting a damper on your life.
The sciatic nerve runs right through the piriformis, a tiny but powerful muscle deep in your glutes
that helps laterally rotate your hips.
If it gets too tight, it can impinge the sciatic nerve that runs through or under it, causing
tremendous pain, tingling and numbness in your lower extremities.
If you find yourself the victim of sciatica (especially if it's caused by a sedentary
lifestyle), try these for stretches to help relieve the pain:
1.
Piriformis Stretch
Laying on your back, place both feet flat on the floor with knees bent.
Rest your right ankle over the left knee and pull the left thigh toward your chest.
Hold stretch for 30 seconds.
Repeat on the other side.
Remember to keep the top foot flexed to protect your knee.
2.
Seated Hip Stretch
While in a seated position, cross your right leg over your straightened left leg.
Hug your right knee with your left arm, making sure to keep your back straight.
Hold this stretch for 30-60 seconds, and then repeat on the opposite side.
3.
Pigeon Pose
Start in Downward-Facing Dog pose with your feet together.
Draw your right knee forward and turn it out to the right so your right leg is bent and
your left leg is extended straight behind you.
Slowly lower both legs.
Hold the position for five to ten breaths, then switch to the other side.
4.
Self-Trigger Point Therapy
Performing self trigger-point therapy using a lacrosse or tennis ball can be very effective
at delivering sciatica pain relief.
All you have to do is find a painful spot in the glutes, place the ball at that location
and then relax your body into the ball.
Hold this position for 30-60 seconds or until you notice a significant reduction in pain.
Move to the next painful spot.
The total time spent on this exercise should be between 5-10 minutes.
Practicing these four exercises once or twice a day can definitely bring you much needed
sciatica pain relief.

Today in Military History: 7/30 - USS Indianapolis sunk - Duration: 0:57.Today in military history, 1945.
The USS Indianapolis is torpedoed by a Japanese submarine,
sinking within minutes.
The Indianapolis had just completed a top-secret mission
in the Pacific, and was preparing for the invasion
of Japan when a Japanese sub discovered the vessel,
and attacked.
The ship sank almost immediately, trapping 300 men inside.
Another 900 went into the shark-infested waters,
where many died from drowning, dehydration,
or injuries from the explosion.
Help did not arrive until August 2nd.
Of the 1,196 crewmen aboard, only 317 survived.
That top-secret mission the crew completed?
Delivering key components of the atomic bomb
that would be dropped on Hiroshima a week later.

Katie's College, Bier Tasting & Ami-Halloween I [VLOG 023] - Duration: 8:13.Good Morning! / K: Good Morning!
You probably guessed what I have for Breakfast:
Lucky Charms!
But I actually wanted to tell you something different,
Monday we (Marielle, Saul and I) went to
Disney World
and we were surprised how thoroughly
they checked us through and why,
they checked everything, even our wallets
of course or Backpacks and Jackets too,
we had to go through a Metal-Detector
for three times on that day.
And we found it a bit too much and were really annoyed by it.
But Saul just send me an article,
apparently two people tried to enter Magic World erm Disney World on Monday
with loaded guns.
Now I'm actually pretty happy that they've been so thoroughly,
because that situation would've not been cool.
We are at the College Campus now,
and Katie will give me the tour.
And I'm pretty excited, since its my first time in an american college.
The sun finally showed so its perfect!
K: Today is so sunny, thats nice!
R: Yes very good!/ K: It's perfect for today!
J: Hey! / R: Hello!
Jason's also been in Bonn
K: Bye!
Katie really needs to finish this paper for class,
so I'm just sitting here editing.
Tonight we're going to a Halloween party
and it is my first american Halloween
and thus I'm super excited! I'm looking forward to it!
So Katie gave me an Hollywood erm Halloween costume,
And I'm going as a Hooters-Girl!
And Sandy is going as...
Katie is going as Sandy from Grease.
So we just went to this one Frat-Party,
but we didn't really like the people so we're going somewhere else now.
K in the back: I'm with Rike now,
R: Katie is imitating my vlogging
so yea we're going somewhere else now. / (K: I'm in america now
with this friend of mine Rike and she is german.)

Vlog 4: A Whirlwind through England - Duration: 9:51.Minnie: Welcome! This vlog we're pretending we are at Hogwarts: Tea! Chocolate! (It's not in shot)
We'll make it appear. Claris: Ding! Magic!
Let's start the show!
*music plays*
M: So I guess the place to start - with five minutes of your vlog being about it!!
with the dæmons. C: 50% of your vlog was about the dæmons.
We spent a long time thinking about your dæmons - M: Like three four-hour train journeys -
C: And I feel like just dismissed all of our decisions. Robbie had a problem.
with his dæmon choice but I mean Sally and Elsie's dæmons? They were great!
M: The reasoning behind a lion I feel like that's very similar to the reasoning behind the
hawk - so, you know, if Elsie prefers to be a cat that's chill. And with regards to
Sally I think the reasoning behind the blue whale is excellent reasoning
because she is so social and it's an excellent
aspect of her personality - but don't make her a fucking whale where she has to stay in
the middle of the ocean forEVER because dæmons are like life size and they have
to be in the ocean if they are a sea creature! I don't want to live a life
living without Sally!! C: You've condemned Sally, who we love, to a life on boats.
So, bring her back to land. M: Please.
And with piwakawaka - that makes sense cos
part of the reason that we went with skink in the first place was cause of all the small
creatures that we felt could hide away in your collar, Robbie,
we liked skink cos a native animal as your dæmon feels right, feels good.
C: Back to Both: Our dæmons.
C: Wow, guys. Wow. Just gonna sip my tea. A peacock.
Mmhmm, a peacock. A peacock. Do you think that my whole personality is how I look?
That's not my personality.
M: I thought maybe a fox? Because part of Claris' personality is
sort of being protective and like, I dunno, mother foxes are pretty protective of
their babies and Claris cares about babies. And also can be quite fierce but
also foxes are sort of associated with cunning - that's the Slytherin.
Open to more ideas for Claris. I don't think we found it yet. C: To be honest though, Robbie was
was very offended by us so we are allowed to be offended by you.
I'm offended on behalf of skinks, that you're so mean about skinks. Skinks are offended, man.
M: With regards to the hare: solid reasoning, totally get it. Potentially too obvious? I was
wondering if maybe there might be an animal that, like, shows their emotions a
lot? because I think that's something that people don't see in me. Like I sort
of am feeling a lot all the time and I think that all that comes across is just like:
So, I don't know! Robbie, you wanted this to be a dæmon debate, here you go, buddy.
C: You got a debate. May the debate continue!
M: I've been keeping a travel journal.
Which is really boring to read. That's what's in shot.
Cos I've written down all of the things we want to say in this vlog.
The last time you saw us, we were in Freshford.
In Bath! And we said we wouldn't talk about it because we'll talk about it now.
What did we do in Freshford?
C: We swam in a Fresh. Ford. Na, it was just a river.
M: One of the days that we were in Freshford, we decided "great idea! let's go to Cardiff!"
We went to the Doctor Who Experience. Because we felt we owed it - well I felt I owed it, to
younger me who was very excited about Doctor Who. C: So when we go back to London
M: The whole day was spent (whispers) at Harry Potter world.
C: We got these jumpers! That's the moral of the story was that we spent a lot of money
on some fancy jumpers. M: Lamb's wool made in Scotland!
C: These are made by the people who made the jumpers for the actual movies.
M: My favourite thing is that it says: Ravenclaw and then it has a 'TM'. For TradeMark.
Because you can't just have the name - you gotta remember that it's Trademarked!
C: It's real comfy, I would recommend it. I like it a lot. *sigh* So many, so many cool
things: the common rooms, and costumes, and just all the sets.
M: A fan recognised us while we were there. And we took a photo with them in front of the
eagle that goes up to Dumbledore's office. C: it was really great to meet you.
Thanks for coming up to us, that must've been kinda scary.
You did it. You did great.
Harry Potter world was real cool. I would recommend it.
I would go - I WOULD go again. M: Yeah. Yeah. C: A really good, nerd experience.
M: Butterbeer tasted great. C: The shop was huge! See all the options
M: "The merchandise chooses the wizard." C: And this jumper chose me.
You had a choice and you chose the one that's more aesthetically pleasing. M: I did. Maybe I'M the peacock?!
Tea's great.
C: Oh.
M: In Cornwall - C:I just put my cup down!
Start again!
M: Tea's great!
In Cornwall, we had Cream Teas. Which they just come with scones.
You get your tea, and there's a scone and it comes with clotted cream - clotted cream was everywhere in
Cornwall. And jam. C: People are obsessed with clotted cream.
It's like cream that is so whipped it's like butter.
M: The day before we got sick we went and saw 'Baby Driver'.
C (singing): Review. Baby Driver review. M: It's a review of Baby Driver.
C: Edgar Wright has a really great style. He's an auteur. And the way you can tell someone's an auteur
is by them having a very specific style of filmmaking. He has it and I love it.
He's great with his editing - it's just like bam bam bam! M: And his ideas are so bright.
C: His use of music!
if that's all that I was looking for in a film it would be like four out of five stars.
As a woman - even if I wasn't a woman I hope I'd still be a feminist - go into a film
looking for the female characters to: A) for there to be a bunch. And B) for them
to be treated in the narrative, and by the filmmaker in a good way.
M: The chief issue with the representation of the two main female roles in this movie:
they can be divided very simply into two representations of female across many,
many films. Sweet. and Sexy. And that's kind of all they were.
C: Edgar Wright, treat your women better. And maybe your films will be even better.
M: And then we were in France and it was beautiful and we were sick.
Back to London.
We've been to Oxford Street and we went to The Globe and watched 'Much Ado About Nothing'.
C: Remember when we made a webseries about 'Muchado'? Amazing!
Sad fun fact:
We were groundlings and because of me being really sick
recently, I felt like I was you gonna faint so I had to leave for like ten minutes.
M: As an awful friend I did not go with her. I kept watching the play.
C: I've gotta say, Harriett. I don't know if you're watching this but your Dogberry
is still the best Dogberry I've ever seen.
M: This morning we had our London Meet Up!
C: I love meeting you guys, you were so friggin lovely and I had a great time.
It's just so exciting to be like you know literally on the other
side of the world meeting people who enjoy your stuff.
M: I'm a relaxed person on a camera.
I'm so relaxed on a camera! I'm so relaxed on a caMERA.
C: Who else thinks it's cool? We're the ones making this vlog.
M: Something cool that we did at the Meet Up was we played
a little bit of one of the 'Happy Playland' songs.
*Intro to Stop & Think plays*
M: In editing I'm gonna insert the bam bam bamdabambam - C: Ooooh! M: I don't know -
Billie: I know. I know what's happening -
M: When we're going to put the song out exactly, but that's a cheeky bit of it.
And we'll probably play it at some other Meet Ups. Wink.
C: The song is definitely good in context. It's also good out of context!
M: Good job, Maxwell Apse. You wrote a great song.
So many great songwriters: Dylan Kelly! Jen Smith! Kicking ass!
C: Also Maude! And Indira Force!
M: And Elsie Bollinger! Elsie, you're great. I love your tunes.
Tomorrow, we're going on the London Eye.
C: Look at us being tourists! M: Aw yeah, look at London!
C: Tourists! M: Hope it's not pouring with rain!
C: Tourist gurls visit London, have a great time!
M: Love the London Eye! I think. I think I'm gonna enjoy it.
It's up high! Next to - C: Look at us enjoying the London Eye!
M: - The river that really exists in London.
C: Yeah, Minnie didn't believe the river existed.
M: If you could have any candy from England what would it be? C: Better get in quick.
M: You're gonna see this and be like "guys you've already left England."
C: When we watch your next vlog we'll be in America - what American candy do you want?
M: What's your fave of the Film Night films you've been watching?
C: Whaddaya think of disco balls?
What did You think of 'Baby Driver'?
Here's a good question!
If you could go to Disneyland what ride would you go on? And we'll go on it and think about ya!
M: And we'll try film it.
C: Next time you see us we'll be in Amurrica. M: 'murica. C: 'MURRRICA.
M: See you, see you later. C (sings): See ya, see ya later!
M: It's time for us to end. C: See ya, see ya later. M: We'll be back... again.
M: Ka kite ano, see you later. C: Ka kite ano!
Elsie's in the garden - there's a lion statue.
C: You're still a hawk.
Before you opened it did you bang it on a table? M: No.
C: Aw, come on! You have to Bang it - M: I just broke it myself...
C: And then it opens up.
M: But I have my own fierce, womanly strength.
*both laugh*
