Barcelona beat Real Madrid ahead of the upcoming season with a 3-2 victory at the Clasico friendly.
The event was held at Miami Gardens' Hard Rock Stadium in Florida.
The legendary rivals will meet again twice in August in the Spanish Super Cup.
But this event set high expectations.
Gerard Pique's strike settled a historic rivalry.
Madrid was missing their star player, Cristiano Ronaldo, who was still on holiday.
But both teams performed strong.
Ernesto Valverde selected Neymar despite rumours about his future with the club.
Just after three minutes, Barcelona's Lionel Messi scored the first goal.
Barcelona continued to dominate and Ivan Rakitic doubled their lead.
Madrid came back when Mateo Kovacic scored.
Followed by a goal by Marco Asensio, who was replacing Ronaldo's position that night,
tying the game at the 36th minute.
Barcelona's Pique scored a goal and took the lead in the 50th minute.
Barcelona made sure that they weren't going to lose their grip on their lead.
Rakitic squared off against referee Jair Marrufo as he protested a decision, showing that the
stakes were still pretty high despite it being a regular friendly.
It was the first time the teams met in a friendly since 1991 and only the second time outside
of Spain.
Given its success, the spectacle is likely to be repeated.
