Defining "healthy" is hard.

Some say weight and health are perfectly correlated, but others don't.

There's a veritable cornucopia of opinions on what good digestive health looks like,

and only a handful of those assessments are in agreement.

And let's not even get started on the issue of what constitutes a healthy diet!

In an effort to lock down some solid information, here's what physicians, researchers, and other

folks in the know have to say when it comes to indicators of good health.

Full, lustrous hair

While brittle, dry, or thinning hair can be signs that something might be going wrong,

the reverse is also true: healthy hair is an indication of a healthy body.

Today show health expert Joy Bauer, says,

"Good hair depends on the body's ability to construct a proper hair shaft, as well as

the health of the skin and follicles.

Good nutrition assures the best possible environment for building strong, lustrous hair."

Nourished by key components of your diet like protein, vitamins, and healthy fats, healthy

hair reflects that you're eating well and absorbing all the good stuff from your food.

Strong nails

Another window into your health is, one might say, right at your fingertips: it's your nails!

Dermatologist Christine Poblete-Lopez, of the Cleveland Clinic says,

"Your nails are a very good reflection of your health.

Many things can occur in the nails that can signify systemic or skin problems."

A pink nail bed without lines or discolorations, as well as strong nails without pitting, lines,

or weakness, are all signs of good health.

However, if your nails undergo changes like discoloration or start to look pitted, it

could be a sign that something is amiss.

Director of Advanced Dermatology and spokesman for the American Academy of Dermatology.

Joshua Fox, MD, explains,

"Changes in the nails can be a sign of a local disease like a fungus infection or a sign

of a systemic disease like lupus or anemia."

Let's talk about poo

Ok, so this one is super awkward — but it's also super important.

As Dr. Vasudha Dhar, a gastroenterologist writing for Everyday Health, says,

"There really is no easier way to discover what's happening inside your body than seeing

what comes out of it."

According to Dhar, there's a wide range of "normal" bowel movements.

She explains,

"Everyone's GI tract operates differently based on a combination of constant and changing

factors ─ genetics, hydration, dietary habits, medication use, and ongoing health issues."

Instead of worrying about whether or not your poo meets these purportedly ideal criteria,

focus on what is typical for you.

If you notice symptoms like visible blood, continual constipation, or prolonged diarrhea,

however, it's time to call your doc.

Social support

Some of the most interesting research to come out recently has shown that having friends,

a strong social support network, and opportunities for interaction are all profoundly good for

you.

It seems obvious that this would impact mental health, but research is showing that it affects

physical health, too.

According to a study published in the Journal of Health and Social Behavior, people with

more social connections are

"healthier and live longer than their more isolated peers."

Social connections and relationships affect behavioral, mental, and physical health.

Basically, no aspect of a person's health goes untouched by their degree of isolation

and loneliness.

According to the Harvard Women's Health Watch newsletter, social connectivity can reduce

stress, as well as triggers stress-reducing hormones.

What qualifies as social support?

Offering to help others, giving out advice, and affection all fit the bill.

Say "ahhhh"

Melanie St. Ours, a Baltimore-based clinical herbalist, says that the Chinese Medicine-inspired

practice of tongue reading can be a great barometer of health and wellness.

She told The List:

"It's not a substitute for medical diagnosis, but if you want to get a sense of how well

you're digesting last night's dinner, or how your body is handling stress, your tongue

can tell you a lot."

St. Ours explained further how to read the tongue for signs in an article on MindBodyGreen.

If the tip of your tongue is red, for example, it's a sign that your heart, mind, and emotions

are revved up.

Other tongue signs include a thick coating ─ particularly towards the back ─ which

signals that your digestion isn't performing optimally.

Teeth marks on the sides of the tongue could mean low energy, slow digestion, and that

your brain is hard at work.

Hmm.

Maybe consider checking your tongue before asking WebMD about your latest ache or pain?

The vital signs

According to the BBC, basic fitness guidelines include,

"30 minutes of moderate exercise at least five times a week."

Doctors also look at whether a person can do reasonable fitness activities such as walk

a 15-minute mile, carry two shopping bags from the store to the car, and climb a flight

of stairs without getting winded.

Furthermore, having normal vital signs is, well, vital.

As published in the BBC report, normal, healthy vital signs include,

"a resting pulse of about 70 beats per minute, and a respiratory rate of about 16 to 20 breaths

per minute."

Mind, body, spirit

Proactively managing your mental and emotional health is another key sign of being healthy,

especially since, according to the U.S. government's Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion,

disorders like depression are strongly connected to other chronic diseases like diabetes, heart

disease, and cancer.

Furthermore, as David Goldberg, a professor at the Institute of Psychiatry in London,

told Psych Central,

"...not only do many chronic illnesses cause higher rates of depression, but depression

has been shown to antedate some chronic physical illnesses."

Exercise, meditation, therapy -- they all have their benefits, that in turn benefit

each other.

To your health!

One thing that people often find when trying to make healthy changes is that it can all

feel totally overwhelming.

But, if you find that you want, or need, to make some changes, it's okay to take things

slowly.

Add in a few things that you feel good about.

A salad at lunch, an afternoon walk, or calling a friend for support, can actually go a long

way.

Why Did Kim Jong-un Call Donald Trump "Dotard?" | What's Trending Now! - Duration: 3:23.

The word "dotard" has started trending after Kim Jong-un used it to describe

President Donald Trump. Welcome back to What's Trending, I'm Adam Bozarth. Please

be sure to LIKE and SUBSCRIBE for more. North Korea's dictator Kim Jong-un

released a statement on Thursday, criticizing US President Trump for his

antagonistic speech at the UN. You might remember hearing about this

speech, particularly this moment where Trump seems to forget Kim Jong-un's name.

Yes. You heard it right.

Trump referred to Kim Jong-un as Rocket Man. And Kim returned fire in this war of

words. In his statement, Kim says of Trump, "He is unfit to hold the prerogative of

the supreme command of a country, and he is surely a rogue and a gangster fond of

playing with fire, rather than a politician." He continues, "Action is the

best option in treating the dotard who, hard of hearin,g is uttering only what he

wants to say." Kim ends the statement with, "I will surely and definitely tame the

mentally deranged U.S. dotard with fire." Kim's words caused quite a stir in the

United States, especially one word in particular. Dotard. Merriam-Webster

tweets, "Kim Jong-un calls Trump a mentally deranged U.S. dotard. Searches

for 'dotard' are high as a kite." Because, let's be honest, it sounds really

offensive and made up specifically for Donald Trump. So what does it mean

anyways? A dotard is "a person in his or her dotage," which is "a state or period

of senile decay marked by a decline of mental poise and alertness." Kim

Jong-un is calling Donald Trump senile? Would a senile old man forget his

wife came on a trip with him to Florida, even though she's standing right behind

him? "On behalf of myself, our Vice President...

Melania really wanted to be with us. She's really..." I mean, yeah, but dotard? Where

does that even come from? That sounds like AP English stuff. How come the

Rocket Man speak English for better than me? It turns out that the North Korean

reporters have a very old translation book. Associated Press reporter Jean H

Lee tweets, "I've been inside [Korean Central News Agency's] newsroom. They're

using very old Korean-English dictionaries." And "dodart" is actually the

closest word in English that the Korean news agency could find. South Korean

journalist Jihye Lee tweets, "The Korean original statement [literally translates to]

"old beast lunatic"-- which is translated into "dotard." Well, regardless of how you

translate it, it has a lot of people on social media buzzing. John Robie replies,

"I would totally buy a mixtape from Old Beast Lunatic." Gustavo Sorola writes, "You:

Rocket Man. Me, an intellectual: dotard." Funny or Die jokes, "dotard (noun): a word you

didn't previously know existed, but google today and said, 'Damn, that's pretty

accurate.'" Rob Delaney tweets, "100% Trump's team

printed out fake definitions of the word "dotard" so he didn't have an epiphany and

start crying." So what do you think of this nuclear war of words? Let us know in

the COMMENTS section below. For more stories like these, go to whatstrending.com.

#2 Were suicides in Micronesia really increasing?┃Social Problems of Micronesia - Duration: 6:41.

One of the earliest research question on Micronesian suicide was whether suicide rates were really

increasing.

This was an important early question because before the 1980s, we really had no idea what

the suicide rates were because there were no official statistics on suicide being compiled.

The first real recorded attempt to answer this question was by Francis Hezel.

In his publication on suicide in 1976, titled Micronesia's Hanging Spree, Hezel noted

what appeared to be a sudden increase in Chuukese youth suicide.

Though a crude first attempt to look into suicide in Micronesia, his article gathered

much outside attention on Micronesian suicide.

However, for many members of the Chuukese community, they did not really regard suicide

as a major cause of alarm because they contended like many neighboring Pacific societies that

suicide has always been part of their society.

A manifestation of a old cultural trait.

This was a reasonable view because there are oral traditions of suicide throughout all

of Micronesia.

According to Hezel, one can find

"Tales of sweethearts, promised by obdurate parents to others in marriage

leaping hand in hand from spectacular heights; of old men, broken in health and spirit, paddling

away in canoes never to be seen again; of shamed young men jumping from coconut trees

before the eyes of their families".

Hezel's search into the archives further supports the notion that suicide has always

been around in Micronesian.

He finds old protestant missionary and catholic priest reports that recorded multiple instances

of suicide throughout Micronesia.

For instance, one report dating back to 1899, showed that at a missionary boarding school

in Moen now called Weno there were six hangings within a period of two years.

Four unsuccessful and two successful.

The school directress found it necessary to train a group of young boys to cut down victims

in future emergencies.

As of this point, the answer to the question on whether Micronesian suicides were increasing

was inconclusive.

What Hezel needed was a more systematic study to gather more and better data.

At the time that Hezel's first article appeared, a cultural anthropologist named Donald Rubinstein

was doing field research on the small coral island of Fais in Yap State.

Two years later, Rubinstein partnered with Hezel, to plan the first systematic study

of suicide in Micronesia.

With this study, they will be able to finally gather answers.

Like finding out whether Micronesian suicides were really increasing as Hezel suggested,

or as others have suggested, suicides in Micronesia have always been high, and a big part of society,

perhaps a manifestation of a old cultural trait, a cultural way of resolving conflict.

Hezel and Rubinstein, conducted an epidemiological survey.

They collected all the available official statistics from hospital records and court

certificates of deaths throughout Micronesia from 1979-1981.

From these death certificates, they followed up by interviewing the friends and family

members of the suicide victims following the guidelines of psychological autopsies to get

information on victim's "family background, education, work history, health, use of alcohol

or drugs, mental problems, and the events leading up to the person's suicide, and

how the suicide actually occurred"

The amount of friends and family members of the victims of suicide they interviewed, numbered

in the hundreds.

What Hezel and Rubinstein found through their research definitely confirms the fact that suicide

has increased from the early 1960s to early 1980s.

Suicides were doubling every decade from the 1960s to the 1970s, and the 1970s to the 1980s.

With the most dramatic increase in suicide during the 70s.

It was not until the early 80s that suicides began to show signs of decline.

However, that was to be short lived because suicides made a comeback in the mid 80s, showing

no signs of decreasing.

Hezel and Rubinstein's research not only provided the answer to whether suicide rates were increasing

in Micronesia, but also provided answers to other important questions on Micronesian suicide.

PRAYING WITH KIDS (2 minute tip) CHILDREN'S MINISTRY IDEAS FOR CHURCH, HOME & SCHOOL - Duration: 2:11.

hi there guys it's me again I just wanted to share with you something that

happened in my class today that was really special. I had started off the

class with a fun song and dance and then I noticed that one of the kids at the

back of the class had her head down so I asked about it and she wasn't feeling

well so before we started into the lesson I like to pray and in the prayer

I just included her in my prayer and then I just taught the lesson as normal

and as I was packing up at the end of the lesson and going to my next class

that girl came up to me and she was looking much better but she said

something to me... she said, "I don't really know how to talk to God or pray to him

but could you pray for a friend of mine?" and then she began to tell me about a

family friend. he was in the hospital and I said I would love to pray for your

friend and by this time we had a little crowd around us and I said is it okay if

we pray for him right now? she's like yes I'd love to and so

basically we just bowed our heads and I said a little prayer for her friend and

I felt really privileged to be invited to provide a sense of comfort and a

sense of reassurance and I know that prayer request was probably connected to

the fact that I've prayed for her at the beginning of the lesson and I just love

how God works. he works amazing and we have special moments in kids ministry

all the time don't we? and I know you have plenty as well and what a privilege

and what a blessing it is to walk alongside kids and help them in their

journey of faith. so I just wanted to share that little special moment with

you and hope that you're having a really good week and we'll catch you another

time. God bless!

Destiny 2 | Nathan Fillion as Cayde-6 & Gina Torres as Ikora | VA Spotlight - Duration: 4:18.

(start sound, dog barks)

(energetic song)

- Oh, Gina, Gina, Gina. Let me count the ways.

If you haven' t heard of Gina Torres,

- Right now I'm going to go to my office and fix myself a god damn drink.

- Let me rock your world for one hot minute.

'Cause I have a huge woman crush on her

and if you take a look at her body of work, it's pretty damn clear why.

She's graced us in shows like Firefly,

- What this marriage needs is one more shouting match!

- What this marriage needs is one less husband.

- Suits.

- I have known I could have trusted you not to come after my firm.

- And even conversed with Hannibal.

- When you're gone he will feel your silence like a draft.

- My silence is inevitable.

The war is over.

- Her performance as Ikora in Destiny 2 is just the cherry on top.

- She made my venture into this franchise much more memorable.

I can't deny that I'll always see her as Zoe from Firely & Serenity though.

Watching a woman of color kicking ass and taking names continues to be a personal inspiration to me.

But, I'll never forget her role in the tv series Angel.

Talk about two faced.

Gina isn't the only one to pull the trigger in Firefly and Destiny.

Nathan Fillion's portrayal of Captain Malcom

has left fans begging for more for what seems like forever!

- I aim to misbehave.

his rendition of Cayde-6 in Destiny 2 isn't going to simmer down hopes any time soon

because Fillion's charisma is undeniable

- Everything is gone except for the last city.

And now, a psycho rhino named Ghaul has come to take that away too.

So it's time to bring out the big guns.

It's not a metaphor guys! Go grab some big guns.

- And also apparent in Castle,

- Thank you. This is the 8th time you've saved my life and I've saved your life 9 times.

- Nine? Please...

- Con Man,

All famous people don't know all other famous people Wray.

But yea, I know him.

I also have to mention his voice over work in Yamasong: March of the Hollows.

If you haven't heard of it, go check it out,

puppeteering at its finest and reminiscent of Jim Henson's, The Dark Crystal.

- I heard this story as a child only it was much different.

I can't mention these two without noting the fact that Firefly recently had a 15 year anniversary.

Fillion left fellow Browncoats a little note to mark the occasion,

he said,

"Has it really been 15 years since a little sci fi show that couldn't, did?

I would be hard pressed to list all the ways in which Firefly has changed, blessed, pushed, lifted, and humbled me.

I made my closest friends there, and even lost one along the way.

I've often said that Firefly is close to my heart,

but I think more accurately, my heart still lives there.

But, there's no place I'd rather be – you know how it goes.

For those of you in the fold, a knowing nod between us.

For those that are not – we'll see you soon enough."

So what did you guys think of Ikora and Cayde-6?

What's your favorite Fillion or Torres role?

Let me know in the comments below.
