It was Christmas Eve.
Marie got a funny-looking nutcracker.
She loved it because it looked friendly too.
But her older brother, Fritz broke the nutcracker because he had used it very roughly.
Marie took care of the nutcracker.
Her godfather, Drosselmeyer had watched Marie and thought of something.
That very night,
Marie had been in the living room to taking care of the nutcracker.
Then, Drosselmeyer,
who she thought had already gone home, appeared in front of her.
As he stopped the clock, a bunch of mice ran into the room.
Even more shocking was a Mouse King with seven heads.
At that time, the nutcracker and the other toys that Marie and Fritz owned started moving!
Soon, the nutcracker led the toy troops and started fighting the mice.
Now, the war began.
After the battle, Marie saved the nutcracker, but because she was injured, she passed out.
The next day, Marie excitedly told Drosselmeyer what had happened last night.
He listened to Marie quietly.
When Marie finished, he started talking.
""I can tell you why that nutcracker is ugly,"" said Drosselmeyer.
""Once in one kingdom, there was a watchmaker.
His name was Drosselmeyer.
One boy from Drosselmeyer's family succeeded in saving a princess.
She had been turned into an ugly nutcracker by a mouse witch.
The boy broke the curse
and the princess was able to turn back into a human again.
But, an accident happened at that time.
The boy became a nutcracker instead.
In order to break the curse, he would have to kill the Mouse King with seven heads
and meet a girl who will love him even though he is ugly.
Marie was into the story.
She believed that the watchmaker must have been her godfather,
Drosselmeyer in front of her now,
and the nutcracker was his relative.
Marie decided to protect the nutcracker no matter what happens to her.
The Mouse King visited Marie every night.
""Give me your favorite candies and toys, or I will bite your nutcracker and kill him,""
said the Mouse King.
Marie had no idea what she could do.
Then, the nutcracker spoke to her.
""Marie, can you pass me a saber?""
Marie gave it to the nutcracker.
Then, the nutcracker defeated the Mouse King all by himself.
""Thank you Marie. You saved my life.""
The nutcracker thanked her and invited Marie to Toy Land.
She had a fun time there.
After returning, Marie explained what she had seen in Toy Land,
but no one believed her,
and they ordered Marie not to talk about Toy Land anymore.
However, her memory remained very vivid, that she dreamt of Toy Land every night.
One day, Drosselmeyer was fixing the clock beside Marie.
She whispered to the nutcracker,
""I will never look down on you, my nutcracker, even if you are ugly.""
At that time, Marie again passed out.
When she woke up, she saw Drosselmeyer and the boy from Drosselmeyer's family.
""Marie, will you marry me?"" asked the boy.
Yes, Marie's nutcracker was that boy from Drosselmeyer's family.
At least, Marie believed so.
Marie's dream came true.
She married the boy and became the Queen of Toy Land.
