What If Jurassic World Was Real? - Duration: 4:00.

Jurassic world is the fourth installemt in the Jurassic park series.

It takes place on Isla Nublar, where the original Jurassic Park once stood.

Now a new theme park, Jurassic world, has taken its place.

Jurassic World centers around the theme that scientists have found a way to genetically

engineer dinosaurs to have other traits.

Like higher intelligence and thermal camouflage.

One of the films characters, Owen Grady, a navy veteran, is attempting to research if

its possible to train velociraptors so they can be used in military combat.

What if his research succeeded, and the world began to use dinosaurs as war machines?

Today, life's biggest questions asks, what if Jurassic world was real?

Hello and welcome back to life's biggest questions.

I'm charlotte dobre.

Don't forget to like and subscribe and let us know in the comments below what topics

you would like to see next.

If you haven't seen our previous video, What if Jurassic Park Was Real, make sure

you click the link on the screen right now.

For a different take on the idea, I've decided to discuss the idea of using Dinosaurs in

warfare.

Dinosaurs on the battlefield?

Sounds like a kid in a sandbox's dream.

But taking a dino war out of the sandbox is a whole other thing.

Firstly, dinosaurs must be genetically engineered to display traits like loyalty.

Without loyalty, there's the danger that a combat dinosaur would simply attack members

of its own army.

Get that out of the way, and you've pretty much got the ultimate weapon.

Furthermore, Dinosaurs in warfare could save the lives of millions of soldiers.

Sending a living creature into combat would have advantages over sending AI into combat.

Animals are still more intelligent than our smartest AIs.

A dinosaur could make a judgement call that an AI just couldn't.

Animals are still better at making contextual decisions.

Genetically alter a dinosaur to have similar senses, lets say, a canine, and we're in

business.

Plus dinosaurs display many traits that would be useful for combat with or without altered

genes.

Raptors for example are cunning and fast, and could sneak up on an enemy with no problem.

Genetically altered T rexes could storm an enemy base and mow anyone in their path.

There are several species of armoured dinosaurs that could be perfect for the battlefield.

Trudon's are smaller dinosaurs but they have been known to have rather large brains,

capable of learning.

What about dilophosaurus?

You know, the one from Jurassic park that spits acid?

How sick would that be.

An Acid spitting combat dinosaur?

So Lit.

I've given a lot of thought to this if you can't tell.

Genetically engineered dinosaurs could be formulated to be able to camouflage themselves.

This would be useful in combat for obvious reasons.

They could blend in to practically any background, making it difficult for the enemy to see them.

Dinosaurs would have a easier time navigating difficult terrain.

You could send dinosaurs into caves and mountainous areas, places that are difficult for soldiers

on foot to reach.

Same deal with the jungle.

One of the reasons why south east asia has been a death trap in previous wars, like the

Vietnam war, is because of the terrain.

The viet cong used gorilla tactics that were alien to American soldiers.

They hid in trees and ambushed troops on the ground.

Combat dinosaurs would have no problem sniffing out the enemy in the jungle.

Sending dinosaurs into combat would have its issues.

The enemy could distract the dinosaurs with flares or food.

Poison gas could take out an entire troop of dinosaurs.

And they wouldn't be protected against bombs the way that tanks are.

Yes, sending dinosaurs in place of humans would save lives, but to what end?

Do these genetically engineered dinosaurs have rights?

A dinosaur is a living thing.

They aren't like machinery that could be switched off.

They need to be fed and housed and trained.

Carnivorous dinosaurs would need a ready supply of meat to feed off of.

In times of combat, they could eat the enemy, but much of war is spent waiting around and

planning.

What would the dinosaurs eat then?

It seems this question has sparked far more questions than answers.

There you have it, this is what I think would happen if Jurassic world was real.

Let me know your thoughts in the comments down below.

For now, I'm charlotte dobre and you've been watching lifes biggest questions.

This Map Shows Where We'll Live On Mars - Duration: 5:14.

- [Narrator] We are closer to landing on Mars now

than ever before.

Private companies like SpaceX are achieving new feats

in rocket science, the likes of which we've never seen.

But rockets will only take us so far.

There are more problems unique to Mars

that still stand in our way.

One of them is, where would we live?

Mars is a desolate desert

pretty much no matter where you look.

It's not like there are any oceans or snow capped mountains

to help us decide where to settle down.

But that hasn't stopped this guy from trying

to figure it out.

- Our main goal is to investigate if it is possible

to grow crops on Mars and moon soil for people

when they go over there and live there.

- [Narrator] Wamelink and his colleague Linechug

have actually made a map of where we should live on Mars.

The map accounts for radiation levels, climate, terrain,

and perhaps most importantly, the soil.

- We looked at the amount of nutrients in the soil

for instance, calcium, magnesium,

and also other nourishments like phosphates and nitrates.

So what you would normally expect in manure.

And we also looked at the amount of ice that is available.

That is not the same everywhere on Mars.

There are areas where there's almost no ice

and there are areas with a lot of ice.

- [Narrator] The most habitable places are labeled

in dark blue on the map.

And, we're pretty familiar with some of these locations.

For example, Acidalia Planitia is just north of where

NASA's Viking 1 and Mars Pathfinder landed.

However, it looks like we should probably steer clear

of some of Mars' inactive volcanoes,

like Olympus Mons and Elysium Mons.

But how does Wamelink know whether crops

will grow at all on Mars?

Take a look at his Mars garden.

The conditions in the soil here are as similar as possible

to what we might find on Mars.

He's been harvesting it for the last five years,

and he's had some amazing success so far.

- Well, it's been a big surprise from the beginning

that many plants are able to grow on it.

The growth is almost the same as if you would use

normal potting soil from earth.

It's not completely the same, but we are getting there.

We had huge harvest of green beans.

Also tomatoes, but carrots are growing fine, even potatoes.

So many different types of crops we are now able to grow.

- [Narrator] Wamelink hopes that his work will help

lay the foundations for the first Marian farms.

After all, it's not like we can send

regular food payloads to Mars.

It takes about 10 months to even get there.

And practical launch windows only open once every two years.

On top of that, astronauts can only bring so much

freeze dried food with them.

So they'll have to learn to grown their own food indoors

on Mars if we are ever going to live there

for long periods of time.

But Wamelink hasn't just been growing plants.

He's also figured out how to make the process

as efficient and successful as possible.

The secret, earthworms.

That's right, earthworms might be some of the first

living things on Mars next to humans.

- When you're on Mars, you want to have a closed system.

So everything has to be reused and worms help with that.

- [Narrator] Earthworms feed on the dead decaying

parts of plants that we won't eat,

but that's still an essential part of the system.

They break the plant matter down during digestion

so that when they return it to the soil it actually

makes the soil more fertile.

But the most surprising thing was that they could survive

in Wamelink's Martian soil in the first place.

- The biggest surprise was first of all,

that they survived because we know that the Martian soil

is rather sharp.

They have really sharp edges.

When you look under the microscope to the soil,

you see that.

And well, since the worms eat the soil,

they get it into their gut.

And it would be the same as we, as humans, would eat

a glass that's broken.

And I expected that the worms may get hurt from it.

But apparently, they are able to cope with it

and they survived.

And they didn't even survive, they had some offspring.

And that was a big surprise for us.

- [Narrator] One of Wamelink's next big experiments

is to perfect the Martian potato.

Turns out, potatoes grow extremely well

in Wamelink's garden.

But they just don't grow to be very large.

- And that's something we have to solve because then

you get potatoes that are very small and not very tasty.

So that is what we're going to try to solve this year

in the greenhouse with a special variety of potatoes.

- [Narrator] With one more seemingly impossible hurdle

behind us, Mars seems closer than ever.

(upbeat space music)
