Hello everyone thank you for joining me. I'm Kerri.
Today I'll be showing you how to crochet this buffalo, which was a request
from Sandy. Now I'll be using 4-ply crochet cotton,
but you could use wool if you'd prefer. I've got black for my main colour, white
for the horns and grey for the muzzle. I've got scissors, I've got a 1.25mm
crochet hook, sewing thread and a sewing needle to stitch it
together and a darning needle to weave in my ends. Now I'm going to start with
the head. The head is done in two pieces, the bottom part and then this top part. I'll
start with the bottom part. I've got my black cotton and I make a magic loop.
For row one I start with one chain and work five single crochet into my circle.
I pull the circle tight and slip stitch into the chain. For row two I
start with one chain and work one single crochet into each of the next four
stitches,
and then I work one chain and turn. For row three I work two single crochet
into the first stitch, one single crochet into each of the next two stitches and
two single crochet into the last stitch and then I work one chain and turn. For
row four I work two single crochet into the first stitch, one single crochet into
each of the next four stitches
and two single crochet into the last stitch. For row five I work one chain and turn and
work one single crochet into each stitch across to the end.
For row six I work one chain and turn and work a joined single crochet over the first
two stitches, one single crochet into each stitch until I get to the last two
stitches
and I work a joined single crochet over the last two stitches and that's the
bottom part of the head done. I now do a neatening row. I work one chain and I work
one single crochet into each stitch right around the head. So I'll work my
neatening row and I'll be back. At the end of the row we slip stitch into the
chain and fasten off.
And that's the bottom part of the head done. Now for the top of the head using
my black I start with nine chain.
I miss the first chain and work one single crochet into each stitch to
the end.
For row two I start with one chain and turn and work two single crochet into the first
stitch and then work one single crochet into each stitch to the last stitch
and then work two single crochet into the last stitch. For row three I work one
chain and turn and work one single crochet into each stitch to the end.
For row four I work one chain and turn. I work a joined single crochet over the
first two stitches, one single crochet into each stitch till I get to the
last two stitches
and work a joined single crochet over the last two stitches. And for row five it's worked
the same as row four. One chain and turn, a joined single crochet over the first
two stitches, one single crochet into each stitch until the last two stitches
and a joined single crochet over the last two stitches and that's the top of
the head done. We do a neatening row now. We work one chain and work a single
crochet in the first stitch and then work one half double crochet and one
double crochet in the next stitch and
one single crochet into the following stitch and we repeat that, one half
double crochet and one double crochet into the next stitch and a single
crochet into the following stitch. That just gives the head a little bit of
shaping, a bit of a wavy look. So I'll repeat that all the way around, the half
double crochet and double crochet in one stitch and a single crochet in the next
stitch and I'll be back. At the end of the row we slip stitch into the chain
and fasten off,
and that's the top of the head. Now the two horns will work differently. For the
first one I start with eight chain. I work a slip stitch in the second chain from the
hook, a joined single crochet over the next two chain, a single crochet in the
following chain and then a joined single crochet over the next two. Into the last
chain I work a half double crochet and fasten off
and that's that horn done. For this horn I start with five chain and work a slip
stitch into the second chain from the hook and then work three single crochet
into each of the next two stitches
and then work a half double crochet in the last chain and fasten off and that's
the horn for there. For the muzzle I'm using my grey. I make a magic loop and
work one chain and work two single crochet into my circle, then I work two
slip stitch into the circle and then two more single crochet into the circle, two
slip stitch into the circle, pull the circle tight and slip stitch into the
chain and fasten off
and that's the muzzle. Now for the body I start just at the top of the hump. So
using my black I work four chain, I miss the first chain and work one single
crochet into each of the remaining chain. For row two I work one chain and
turn, I work two single crochet into the first stitch, one single crochet into the
next stitch and two single crochet into the last stitch.
For row three I start with one chain and turn, I
work two single crochet into the first stitch, one single crochet into each
stitch until I get to the last stitch and I work two single crochet into the
last stitch.
For row four I work one chain and turn and I work one single crochet into each
stitch till the last stitch
and I work two single crochet into the last stitch. For row five I work one chain and
turn and work two single crochet into the first stitch, one single crochet into
each stitch till the last stitch and
work two single crochet into the last stitch. For row six I work one chain and turn and
work one single crochet into each stitch until the last stitch
and I work two single crochet into the last stitch. For row seven I work one
chain and turn and work two single crochet into the first stitch and one
single crochet into each stitch to the end.
For row eight I work one chain and turn and work one single crochet into each
stitch to the last stitch
and I work two single crochet into the last stitch. For row nine I work one chain and
turn, I work two single crochet into the first stitch and one single crochet into
each stitch to the end.
Now rows ten and eleven are worked the same. You work one chain and turn and work one
single crochet into each stitch to the end. So that's one chain and one single
crochet into each stitch. So I'll work rows ten and eleven and I'll be back. For row twelve
we start with one chain and turn and work one single crochet into each stitch
until we get to the last three stitches,
and then we work one half double crochet into each of the next two
stitches and then two double crochet into the last stitch. Now rows thirteen to
sixteen are worked the same. You work one chain and turn and work one single crochet
into each stitch to the end. So that's rows thirteen to sixteen, one chain and turn and one
single crochet into each stitch to the end. So I'll work those rows and I'll be
back. Now that's up to row sixteen complete. Now we're going to start on the back leg.
So for row seventeen we start with two chain and work one half double crochet into each of
the next two stitches and then a joined single crochet over the following two
stitches. For row eighteen we start with one chain and turn and work a joined single
crochet over the first two stitches and
one half double crochet in the last stitch. For rows nineteen to twenty-two we work one
chain and turn and work a single crochet into each of the next two stitches. So
that's rows nineteen to twenty two, one chain and turn and one single crochet into each of
the two stitches.
For row twenty-three we work one chain and turn and we work one single crochet into each of
the two stitches and then fasten off
and there's the body and the back leg done. We start on the two front legs now.
We join our cotton to the next stitch on the body and work one chain and then
work one single crochet into each stitch to the end.
For row two we work one chain and turn and work one single crochet into each of the next
seven stitches
and then a joined single crochet over the following two stitches. For row three we
work two chain and turn and work a joined half double crochet over the first two
stitches, a half double crochet into the next stitch, one single crochet into
each stitch till the last stitch and two single crochet into the last stitch. For
row four we start with one chain and turn and we work one single crochet into
each of the next three stitches.
For row six we work one chain and turn and work one single crochet into each stitch and
fasten off and that's the front leg done. For the next leg we join our cotton to
the next stitch after the first front leg
and work one chain and then we work a joined single crochet into the same
stitch as the chain and the next stitch, a
single crochet in the next stitch and then a joined single crochet over the
last two stitches. For row two we work one chain and turn, we work a joined
single crochet over the first two stitches and then work a joined single
crochet into the same stitch as the last part of the joined single crochet and the
next stitch. And for row three we work one chain and turn and we work a single
crochet into each stitch and that's the other leg done. I don't fasten off. I'm
going to do an neatening row starting from here
but first I'll just weave in my ends to make it a bit easier. Now I'm going to
make my buffalo's fur look a bit shaggy. So I'm going to be working either
two chain or one chain between slip stitches in certain parts, but if you'd
like you could just work a single crochet around. I'm also going to work in
the hooves as I go but if you were doing your Buffalo in a different color and
wanted black hooves just work single crochets across the bottom of the legs
and then work their hooves in after. Now I'm going to start with two chain and
then I'm going to slip stitch into the next stitch and then
repeat that two chain and slip stitch into the next stitch and I work that like
that right up to the beginning of the back leg. Just two chain and slip stitch
into the next stitch.
Now for the back leg I'm going to work one chain and slip stitch into the next
stitch, just so the fur isn't quite so shaggy on the back legs.
And once I get to the top of the leg I'll slip stitch into the first stitch and
for the first hoof I'll work three chain and work one double crochet in the same
place as the chain, a double crochet into the next stitch and then three chain and
slip stitch into the same place as the last double crochet and then I slip
stitch to the end of the top of the leg. Now for down the side we work one chain
and slip stitch into the next stitch. I
do that
at least to the top of the leg, normally a bit further.
Now that's probably far enough. Now I'm going to work one single crochet into
each stitch around the back of the Buffalo, so probably to about here,
about even to where I'm at now. So I'll just work one single crochet into each
stitch. So I'll do that and I'll be back. Now I work two chain and slip stitch into
the next stitch until I get to the top of the leg. So two chain and slip stitch
into the next stitch.
And then I slip stitch onto the top of the leg and I work another hoof,
so three chain, a double crochet into the same place as the chain, a double crochet
into the next stitch, three chain and slip stitch into the same stitch as the
last double crochet and then slip stitch to the end of the top of the foot and
then down the side and up to the top of the next foot we just work one chain and
slip stitch into the next stitch.
And slip stitch onto the top of the leg and for this hoof we work three chain, a
double crochet in the same place as the chain and then work two double crochet
into the next stitch and then fasten off
and that's the buffalo body with the three legs done. Now for this far back leg
using my black I work six chain. I miss the first chain and work a single
crochet into each of the remaining chain.
For row two I start with one chain and turn and work a single crochet into each
stitch to the end.
For row three I work one chain and turn, I work a joined single crochet over the first two
stitches, one single crochet in the next stitch and then a joined single crochet
over the following two stitches.
For row five I work one chain and turn and work a joined single crochet over the first
two stitches and a single crochet in the last stitch. For row six I work one chain
and turn and work one single crochet into each stitch.
For row seven I work one chain and turn and work one single crochet into each stitch and
that's the leg done. I do a neatening row now. I work one chain and I work
one slip stitch into each stitch right around to the top of the leg and then I'll
work a hoof. So just the slip stitch it doesn't need to be very shaggy
and I'm not working a single crochet because I don't want it to get too fat.
And then slip stitch into the top of the leg and work three chain, a double crochet in
the same place as the chain and then two double crochet into the next stitch and
fasten off and that's the far back leg done. So I'll just weave in my ends and
I'll be back to put it together. Now here's all the pieces.
The first thing I'll do is I'll embroider on nostrils and a mouth on the
muzzle. Now the muzzles ready, I'll attach it to
the bottom part of the head, just in there and then I'll attach the top part
of the head, it just goes on like that,
just like that so I'll attach those. Now next I'll embroider on an eye, just under
where the top head part slopes up, so one in there and one in there. I'll attach
the horns like that and the far back leg I'll attach in there. Now I do have my
patterns on my website. I'll put the details in the description below just in
case you're not sure of any of the placement of the parts. The last thing
we do is attach the head to the body. The bottom of the head goes just under the
top of the leg, the one horn will be on the back and the other one
will be sticking out, so just about there. And there's the finished buffalo, if you
