South Korean President Moon Jae-in met the U.S. President and other world leaders at

the G20 Summit in Argentina this weekend... to gain their support on the climate change

issue.

He's now left South America... and is on his way to New Zealand for a summit there.

Travelling with the president, Shin Se-min reports.

President Moon Jae-in has asked for the support of the world's biggest economies in dealing

with a major challenge facing the globe: climate change.

In a speech to the leaders on the last day of the G20, President Moon shared his administration's

ambitious goal of cutting the country's reliance on coal and nuclear power and increasing the

proportion of electricity it gets from renewable sources,… something he's promised to raise

to 20 percent by the year 2030.

He said the G20 nations, which emit 80 percent of the world's greenhouse gases,… should

be leading efforts to control pollution,… for one thing by supporting progress in that

direction by developing nations.

The president said...

securing funds to support developing nations is important,... and he urged the G20 countries

to get the private sector in particular more involved .

And that,... he said, can be done through global climate organizations like the Green

Climate Fund and the Global Green Growth Institute,... and he welcomed the adoption of the "Buenos

Aires Update",... part of the G20 nations' efforts to achieve sustainable development.

Also, working on his North Korea diplomacy,... the president met with the leaders of the

Netherlands and South Afirca.

Both countries are non-permanent members of the UN Security Council,... and the Netherlands

also sits on the North Korea Sanctions committee.

"After handshakes and photo-ops with other world leaders,…

President Moon now sets off on the last leg of his week-long trip.

New Zealand for a state visit.

The South Korean leader will continue his economic diplomacy by seeking harmony between

his New Southern Policy and Wellington's Pacific Reset.

Unemployment among middle-aged South Koreans rose in Q2: Data - Duration: 0:46.

The unemployment rate for middle-aged people in South Korea rose sharply in the second

quarter... to surpass that of the United States for the first time in almost 20 years.

According to the OECD and Statistics Korea, the jobless rate in Q-2 for people aged 55

to 64 came to 2-point-9 percent, up 0-point-4 percentage points on year.

This is higher than the figure for the U.S., which was 2-point-7 percent.

Generally, countries with a bigger working-age population, like the U.S., tend to have a

higher unemployment rate.

Analysts attribute the rise to the overall economic slowdown in Korea... and an increase

in the number of economically active... older people.

State funeral for George H.W. Bush to be held on Wednesday - Duration: 0:50.

U.S. President Donald Trump, who's in Argentina for the G20 summit, has paid tribute to former

President George H.W. Bush, who died on Friday at the age of 94.

In a statement, said that Bush... "through his essential authenticity, disarming wit,

and unwavering commitment to faith, family and country," inspired generations of his

fellow Americans to public service.

President Trump announced that this coming Wednesday will be a day of mourning... and

that a state funeral will be held for the late former president at the National Cathedral

-- the first in eleven years.

The former president will lie in state at the U.S. Capitol starting Monday, and he will

be buried at the presidential library in Texas, alongside his wife, Barbara Bush, who died

seven months ago.

North Korea-U.S. summit likely to happen 'shortly after the first of the year': Pompeo - Duration: 0:43.

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo says a second summit between North Korea and the

U.S. will likely take place early in the new year.

Pompeo told CNN which aired on Saturday that he's hoping that it'll happen soon.

On denuclearization, Pompeo said the U.S. is working with partners around the world,

including South Korea and Japan.

However, he stressed that sanctions will remain in place... and that these are global sanctions

put in place by the UN Security Council.

U.S. President Donald Trump, who have met President Moon Jae-in at the G20, had expressed

that he too is looking forward to a second summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

A senior South Korean official says dialogue between North Korea and the United States

is continuing... and in a respectful way.

Speaking on condition of anonymity,… the official at the presidential office said the

mood between the two seems to have changed drastically in the past six months,… so

much so that the trajectory of the talks is being orchestrated by the leaders themselves

with their staff trying to keep up.

Also, the official said, President Trump agreed with President Moon at the G20... that the

next North Korea-U.S. summit needs to happen as soon as possible.

The official added that North Korea's Kim Jong-un is a man of his word -- that over

the past year he has kept his promises, even if the timing might depend on the circumstances.
