Welcome to Ranger Reviews, a webseries where we look at episodes of the tv show, Power
Rangers and then discuss it!
Today, we're exploring the twenty fifth episode of the show Power Rangers Zeo as well
as the one hundred and eightieth episode overall, titled "Song Sung Yellow".
We open this episode with the longest music video ever from Tanya, shot at El Matador
Beach in California, which is one of my favorite beaches in the entire world, so that's nice.
Adam apparently directed this, and everyone is at the Youth Center, and Tommy says that
he thought he saw something in the music video.
He slows it down, going slow, and there are Cogs in the background.
Tommy says that if they didn't see them this time, there's no telling how many times
they've been around without them realizing.
Apparently, Ernie is opening the Youth Center up for Saturday nights, and he offers to let
Tanya to start singing for everyone during that time.
Wait, how it not opened then?
In space, apparently it's Sprocket's birthday, and Machina and Mondo explain how they already
sent Cogs to go get party supplies.
We then see the Cogs just stealing stuff from the Rangers after they're putting things
down.
Then, Rocky sees them running away.
It's morphin' time!
For some reason?
They show up outside of the Youth Center, and now they're fighting by a pie truck,
which Kat finds.
Ugh, I know what's going to happen already.
Kat starts use the pies against them, and then all the Rangers do.
This is really lame.
Like even for Power Rangers.
Then, all the Cogs except one leave, which leaves just one who gets hit with all the
pies at once?
Whatever, they're confused as to why Mondo would want the supplies.
Mondo and Machina mad that the Cogs failed, but whatever, here's Sprocket's surprise:
the Wrecking Ball, which is definitely not a kendama toy monster.
Sprocket can't really control it though yet.
He needs to practice.
At the detective's office, Bulk and Skull are playing table tennis with each other,
and apparently as Stone is coming down the hallway, it triggers an alarm for them to
know that Stone is coming.
They start panicking, cleaning up everything.
Also, Stone has a lollipop in his mouth because smoking is bad.
Then, they flip the desk around to hide everything.
Stone says that they their first assignment.
Apparently, they're investigating phoney music producers who are stealing money from
children.
They said that they have intel that they're going to be at Ernie's.
Somehow?
Whatever, Tanya is singing again, and I guess this is called Ernie's After Hours?
That's really gross.
Everyone claps as she ends her song, walking over to her Ranger friends.
They tell her how proud of her they are, and she talks about how exciting it was to be
up there.
Then, a guy comes up to Tanya, telling her that she's got amazing talent.
His name is Vincent Nova, a representative from a record label.
He wants to get her in the studio ASAP, and he tells her that he'd like some material
from her for the home office.
She gives him her music video, and Bulk and Skull are suspicious, following the guy out.
Then, Kat says that if she signs a contract, she might have to drop out of school and Rocky
says that she might have to move to Hollywood.
Then, we see that Skull is doing surveillance on this Vincent Nova guy, who throws his lunch
away in a garbage can, on to Bulk who is hiding in the garbage can.
Hooray.
Skull then steals some old french fries from his lunch to eat?
Tanya then comes up to the others, talking about how her video got shown to some higher
ups in the music industry.
Apparently the president of the record label is coming down to watch her sing later, and
if she's good, they're gonna offer her a contract.
She says she'll take it, but then she stops and thinks, realizing she doesn't know.
Also, Sprocket had full control over Wrecking Ball now.
Time to send him time for some havoc.
Tanya is then singing at the Youth Center again, and the others are there, watching.
Then, their communicators go off, and Zordon tells them about Sprocket's plan.
Tommy tells Tanya to just keep singing, and they'll handle it without words.
Man, Jason David Frank has gotten better at this whole acting thing.
The four Rangers show up, and they realize they can't fight the monster without Tanya
for the megazord.
Then, Cogs show up, and Tommy gets in the Red Battle Zord, taking on Wrecking Ball solo
while the others struggle against the Cogs.
How have the Cogs not turned into super easy things to defeat yet in this season?
Rocky does a spinning power punch, Adam uses his weapons, and Kat uses her power cloud
attack, defeating the Cogs pretty easily.
Tommy is taking on Wrecking Ball pretty easily, boxing the crap out of it before he jumps
into the air, spinning and hitting it, killing it.
In space, Sprocket apologizes to his mom and dad for failing, and they say that they're
proud no matter what because he tried.
It's nice to see that they're all evil.
Tanya is at the Youth Center, talking to the music industry professionals, and they're
trying to explain how they're very sad how Tanya turned them down.
Bulk and Skull show up, and they try to save Tanya from them, but she already turned them
down.
They then leave, and they compliment Bulk and Skull on how they look, saying they should
be in a new music video, and Bulk and Skull tell them shove off.
Tanya then explains that those were real producers, and Bulk and Skull freak out, chasing them
out into the parking lot.
Tanya meets up with the others, and she apologizes that she wasn't there for the others today.
She said it wasn't that difficult to give up a recording contact like that because she
knows she made the right decision.
They all hug.
The end.
This episode is interesting because all of a sudden Tanya can sing?
Is there anything that this girl can't do?
I mean, she's good enough to get a record deal, and she turns it down.
I will say though, what's really strange to me is that Tanya never morphs once in her
own focus episode.
It works for this, but it's unusual for Power Rangers to do something like that.
Other than that, there's a lot of filler happening with this season, which I'm not
super offended by, but I'm kind of just sitting here, waiting for something big to
happen.
Unfortunately, nothing have arrived yet.
However, hopefully, next time, things will start to pick up storywise, but until then,
may the power protect you!
