How Germany could have won World War One (The 5 Ways) - Duration: 11:45.

This video is like a spinoff to my recently uploaded History of the German Empire in Countryballs.

So check that out.

Undoubtedly, the failure to achieve victory in World War I was a major cause in the downfall

of the German Empire.

However, the war was not a completely lost cause for Germany until the very end.

Moreover, many German citizens were influenced by and agreed with former-General Ludendorff's

Dolchstosslegende, or the "stab-in-the-back-theory," which stated that Germany did not lose the

war on the battlefield, but lost the war due to internal conflicts.

In summary, Ludendorff believed that the war was winnable on Germany's part, and so did

an insignificant politician known as Adolf Hitler, along with the millions of masses

that would be ruled under his hegemony.

The following theories are mere speculations, and even if they were put into action, they

would not have necessarily guaranteed Germany's victory in World War I.

Not only that, as World War I is known for its complexity and multidimensionality, a

lot of the theories are generalizations themselves, or based off of generalizations of actual

historical events.

So, don't watch this video if your sole purpose is to be deeply educated about World

War I, but please do watch if you are fascinated by the war and would like to know how things

may have gone differently.

That was a long introduction.

So here it is, the five ways Germany could have won World War One!

Number One, not invading Belgium.

Germany's invasion of Belgium was smart in a way that by not directly attacking the

fortifications on the French border, Germany was able to advance pretty quickly.

However, Britain had militarily guaranteed neutral Belgium's sovereignty and supported

its reluctance to let German troops in peacefully.

Thus, when Germany was fed up by Belgium's unwillingness to let their troops pass, Germany

made an unprovoked attack, prompting Britain to declare war.

Germany could have avoided this action, although it may have prompted a lot more casualties

during the initial phase of the war and may have slowed down the process of attacking

France significantly, and it could have taken them even longer to reach the outskirts of

Paris than when they arrived at the Marne River in our real timeline.

However, if we try to predict the long run, France had a population of 39 million in 1914

compared to Germany's 67.

Therefore, by not giving Britain's 9 million (5 million on the Western Front) troops a

casus belli to join in with the Allied Powers, Germany may have been able to successfully

hold out a war of attrition, which is not exactly to their liking, but would have been

worth it for a positive outcome of the war anyway.

And needless to say, Germany's initial plans of having a mobile attacking force in the

actual process of the war quickly died out after the First Battle of the Marne, from

which the trench warfare tactic was introduced.

In addition, avoiding a conflict with Britain would have meant that Britain's powerful

navy would not have been able to blockade German ports, and the morale in the motherland

would have lasted for much longer, indicating a possible chance of the Kaiser Wilhelm II

retaining his Pickelhaube for a little more.

Number Two, Correcting Naval Flaws.

Germany had the world's second largest navy at the start of World War One, but it really

wasn't well-used.

It only engaged in one major battle, the Battle of Jutland, and even in that particular conflict

the result was indecisive.

After that, the German navy, despite still boasting 10 dreadnought ships, were confined

to domestic ports, unwilling to have another engagement with the superior British navy.

Therefore, from a certain perspective, the large investment in dreadnoughts and other

battleships was a waste, for the majority of the German navy became a fleet in being.

The last time those ships were planned to be in use was when Operation Plan 19 was issued,

which was essentially a last-resort suicide plan.

This mission caused the Kiel Mutiny among German sailors, eventually spreading to the

German Revolutions of 1918, overthrowing the Kaiser and playing an instrumental role in

removing the German threat from the battlefield.

As numerically a direct confrontation with the British navy would've been suicidal

anyway, the Kaiser could have authorized more investments in the production of U-boats,

a part of the navy that actually caused considerable damage.

However, even the U-boat indirectly led to the German Empire's demise when they resorted

to unrestricted submarine warfare in 1915, stopping the custom of surfacing when attacking

merchant ships and letting passengers and the crew escape.

This new tactic led to the U-boat sinking the Lusitania in a highly controversial manner.

This event did anger the United States, but not enough for them to issue a full declaration

of war.

However, in January 1917 the German government announced that it would again conduct full

unrestricted submarine warfare, lowering American public opinion of the country once again.

Undoubtedly, unrestricted submarine warfare did play a key role in involving American

troops in the Great War, only narrowing the chances of a German victory.

Number Three, Not Sending the Zimmermann Telegram.

The Zimmermann Telegram was a diplomatic note to the Mexican government which proposed an

alliance between the two countries in case of an American entry into World War I. Mexico

was offered the retrieval of territories that were lost during the Mexican-American War.

However, this proposition never came to fruition as British intelligence intercepted it, and

the American public opinion reached boiling point.

To make matters worse, German Foreign Secretary Arthur Zimmermann publicly admitted that the

telegram was genuine...not sure why he did that, but that was the action that basically

fueled the US Congress to ratify the bill for war.

Yes, a lot of misfortunes were clearly involved regarding the Zimmermann Telegram, but perhaps

not sending one prior to an actual American involvement may have been smart, as there

may have been a chance of Mexico simply reporting the contents of the secret note to the American

government as well.

Not only that, Arthur Zimmermann's public confession was also a diplomatically insane

move.

The American involvement, which was basically sealed from this telegram, would bring in

a large amount of fresh troops not worn out by the tiresome war, and Germany would have

no chance of escape.

Number Four, Using the French Army Mutiny of 1917

After the disastrous Second Battle of the Aisne, unlike the promises of a French victory

by General Robert Nivelle, the shock of failure damaged French morale significantly.

Suicidal mutinies occurred, revolts occurred in 21 army divisions in May, and a record

of 27,000 soldiers deserted in 1917.

However, General Philippe Petain was able to restore morale by talking to soldiers and

demonstrating only moderate discipline, allowing 90% of mutineers to have their sentences canceled.

A truly amazing fact about this large-scale mutiny is that the French military was able

to hide it so well from German intelligence, and its extent was not revealed until decades

later.

Just think about the change it would have made for Germans to have known about this

massive unrest within their enemies.

A bombardment of high-spirited attacks upon the French during this period may as well

have defeated the nation entirely.

Number Five, Not Starting a War on Two Fronts.

Although the Eastern Front was a victory for the Central Powers in the end, the win came

at a hefty cost.

Four grueling years of battle with a death toll of 173,858 soldiers and the absence of

nearly one and a half million soldiers from the action of the Western Front.

As Germany had to face the opposition of the British, the French, and the Belgian by itself

in the Western Front, having the most, if not all, of its troops allocated in that theater

of the war would have been quite helpful.

The Schlieffen Plan, the initial war tactic of Imperial Germany, was to concentrate on

invading France while keeping less forces on the East as Russian mobilization was expected

to take a long time.

However, the estimation of the time the Russians needed to mobilize was quite off the charts,

and the Imperial Russians attacked East Prussia in August of 1914, and managed to shake the

Austro-Hungarians quite heavily.

Russia was damaged considerably from the Battle of Tannenburg, though, losing 170,000 troops

to Germany's 14,000.

However, the bloody Brusilov Offensive in 1916 changed the tide significantly, and the

Russian Army made large gains by crippling the Austrian army.

Not only that, Romania also entered on Russia's side in 1916, only worsening the situation

and causing more attrition.

If the February Revolution had not occurred, Germany's victory on the East would not

have guaranteed as well.

All this is to simply portray just how devastating the Eastern Front was, and how relieving it

would have been to avoid the conflict, or delay a proper confrontation until the affairs

of the Western Front were settled.

Germany could have let Austria-Hungary try to delay the Russians' advance alone for

a while, and perhaps with minor help from the Ottoman Empire as well.

Germany being fully focused on the Western Front could have the element needed to secure

the nation's victory.

These are the five possible ways Germany could have won World War I.

Keep in mind, these are only speculations, and thus their validity will never be fully

confirmed.

Many of these theories were based off of those from an article by National Interest, if they

looked familiar to some of you, so go check that out.

For now then, have a nice day.

How to tune ms41 ECUs (BMW m52/s52 engines): Vanos tuning - Duration: 10:54.

Welcome back to Sipa's garage.

This time for m41 tuning I'm going to show how to tune the VANOS.

it's quite simple for these single vanos engines because it's only on or off.

So there is not much to it.

In ms41.0 and ms41.1 there is few maps that make it work.

Here is this Heavy Throttle map.

Which doesn't normally look like this but I just changed all this to zero.

And when these cells are zero it means that the vanos is off and and when these are at one, it means that vanos is on.

Normally it goes on somewhere at about 1000 RPM and then goes off after 4000 RPM.

But for this test I put zero for whole map which makes the vanos stay off whole time when I floor it.

And i need to take log with that.

In addition to that there is this Min Load Light Throttle map.

For manual car it's this one.

This works so that when load is more than these values here at part throttle, the vanos goes on.

But i haven't found good way to tune these so this time we are only going to tune the map for wide open throttle.

Now for start we are going to take a log with vanos off all the time.

Most critical items to log are load, RPM and throttle position.

But you can log all the regular items.

Taking the log is fairly easy. Just floor it at 1000 RPM and rev it all the way up to rev limiter.

And then see how it looks when vanos map is set to zero.

And then do that again in same way vanos maps set to one.

Then comparing the logs we can see how to set the vanos.

Now I already have the vanos off map already flashed in.

So I can start logging and go for a ride.

After that i load in the another map.

As I said the Full load vanos map is easy the check like this.

Just hover here around idle and 1000 RPM

Maybe use second gear.

And floor it.

Wait. Not like that.

Like this.

yeah,

That was it.

We now have the vanos off log.

I will turn this off.

Stop the logging.

Then lets switch to vanos on map to see how it looks.

Which looks like this.

So I will just flash that in.

Just flash in the partial........

No wait I need to have the ignition on.

Partial flash...

Vanos on and open. And it will start flashing.

It's now in. I will turn of ignition and close this.

Then start new log with vanos on as name.

Like that.

Start logging and start the car also.

Again in same way as previous log.

It's now done.

Yeah and now when we have that vanos on and off logs.

We can open those on Excel.

Excel should be able to open those logs straight away because those are regular CSV files.

But it can go wrong with all the dots and decimals so I will open it in Notepad++ first.

Then select all.

Paste that to Excel.

Then we use the import wizard.

From that we choose the delimited.

We only choose semicolon here.

And now the log is imported.

Then we take X Y scatter from the top. Wait what the fuck it now did.

It decided to select some rows automatically.

It doesn't matter.

Lets do that again.

From here we choose select data, add and..

As series name I will put vanos off.

As X value i will choose RPM.

And I will look where the TPS is 100%

But wait. I had the modified logger definition.

You will have it at lower value than that. But in anyway, you will choose the area where you did floor it.

Yeah there it's at 100%

So we will select the RPM from that section.

And as Y axle I will choose the Load so we can do the plot.

So vanos off we have load curve which looks like that.

Then we open next sheet and paste the vanos on map there.

Same process as last time.

But we will now choose the previous X Y scatter and add new series to it.

We will name that vanos on and choose the RPM from the other sheet.

And load as Y axle.

There is that 100% again.

No wrong spot.

Now I have the correct.

Then the load.

Ok and ok. Now we have the curves here.

We can now see the load vanos on and vanos off.

We can now easily do vanos map looking at that.

And using these curves I made map to RomRaider which looks like this.

First it is off.

Then little bit on, short time off.

Then from around 2000 RPM on up to 5000 RPM.

The off at the end.

Which looks like that as map.

You need to remember that my engine wasn't working very well when i did this video, so your curves don't probably look like that.

But it's enough to show how this is done.

Enough for that. But don't copy that map to your ecu.

Just to show how it's done.

But then with that map I did run third log and i will show how it looks like.

How the load curve matches.

Again in same way as before.

And in that you can see that the vanos has turned bit too late at 2000 and 5000 RPM points.

And that is because the vanos turns very slowly in these single vanos engines.

So we need to make the vanos transition 100-200 RPM before than the actual switch points.

So that it will be fully on or off at the point it needs to be.

So in the start we make it tun 100 RPM earlier.

just by changing these RPM values.

Like this.

Same on the top. Maybe start the turn before 5000 RPM.

Like this.

And it's done. I didn't find the log with the latest map to show you but it did follow the highest logged values really well.

So the engine will put out maximum torques it can which means most power.

During the whole rev range.

So that's how you can tune the vanos for ms41. Really simple thing to do really.

Well ok you need to know how to use Excel for example. But it's worth knowing how to use it in anyway because it will help in ms41 in many other situations also.

Top 10 Animals With Full Time Jobs - Duration: 7:28.

Top 10 Animals with Full Time Jobs

Hello!

Welcome back to Most Amazing Top 10!

I am Rebecca Felgate and today we are talking about the top 10 animals with full time jobs.

These flusters are pulling in a serious wage and good for them…although I feel a bit

weird about it.

Before we launch into this video I just want to remind you that we have an instagram and

you should follow us…and if you want to pick up something cool to wear in the new

year, we also have merch at Most Amazing Shop dot com.

OKAY ANIMALS…

10 - Internet Star Tardar Sauce Tardar Sauce goes by the stage name Grumpy

Cat.

Grumpy cat became a meme in 2012 when Bryan Bundesen posted an image of her on Reddit,

sending her viral.

Grumpy Cat now earns a living for her owner, Bryan's sister, Tabatha Bundesen, and has

a whole team behind her.

She has over 2 million instagram followers, a website, a youtube channel, merch… put

it this way….Grumpy Cat makes more money than most people watching this video…and

a heck of a lot more than the lady hosting it.

Grumpy cat looks the way she does because she has feline dwarfism….which makes me

feel weird about her as a meme….

9 - Water Skiier, Twiggy Twiggy is a squirrel who can water ski like

a pro.

Footage of Twiggy's skills have gone viral on Youtube as she showed off her talent on

the Go Pro Youtube channel.

She often appears at boat shows and sometimes on television.

Twiggy is actually several grey squirrels trained to water ski, but each of them are

good earners, booking many public and media appearances.

When each squirrel is retired, they live out their days as pets.

8 - Coal Mine Canary This is a traditional job for a canary, but

the story behind it is pretty sad although luckily most Canaries no longer pull this

kind of 9-5.

Back in the 20th century when coal mining became a popular practice, a lot of human

workers were killed when poisonous Carbon Monoxide gas was released deep in the mining

caves.

A solution came when they were able to detect the gas coming, but in the days before efficient

detectors, canaries were taken into the mines for protection.

You see, canaries are naturally chirpy and make a lot of sound, even though their lungs

are much smaller than humans.

If the miners ever heard that the canary had fallen silent, they knew that they had to

get out.

7 - Model Bohdi the Shiba Inu Bohdi is a 7 year old dog often referred to

as the Menswear Dog.

Bohdi makes 15 thousand US dollars a month, which is pretty insane….

But crazier when you think that he banks all this cash by being a menswear model……

which traditionally has been a job for humans.

He has modelled for many designers and events, and has appeared at New York Fashion Week.

Oh, and he has a book…which is a pretty incredible achievement for dog.

You can follow Bohdi on instagram at Mensweardog.

Okay so as we are around the middle of this list, let's step away from the crazy for

a second and show some love to dogs who's full time job is to help people see.

Coming in to number 6 , we have Guide Dogs.

There are 10,000 seeing eye dogs or guide dogs in the united states, and these dogs

are trained pretty much from birth to be able to assist the blind with their everyday lives.

If you want to know more about what they do, then we have done two collaborations with

the beautiful Molly Burke on Most Amazing Top ten that are over here and over here.

In it you can meet her Guide Dog Gallop.

I know from hanging out with them that Gallop works really hard while he has his harness

on, but when it is off, he is just like any other dog.

5 - Police Constable Tizer, the Railway cat.

SKIMBLESHANKS THE…..

RAILWAY CAT.

No?

Just me?

So Tizer was the first in a line of police constables and was adopted by the British

Transport Police to work at a North London Railway Station.

PC Tizer roams Kings Cross and keeps it as rodent free as can be!

Inspector Roy Sloan said that he is an essential member of the team and the pair share an office.

Say hello to the lawn mowing llamas who work at Chicago's O Hare Airport at number 4.

In 2012, a team of Llamas were taken on by Chicago's O Hare international Airport in

order to provide a sustainable way to keep the grass trim.

The reason they are so important is not simply to keep the grass from growing tall – they

also keep other wildlife away and off the tarmac.

I don't know about you but I love a good llama.

I went on a Llama trek once; it was a great day!

3 - Therapist, Magic the Horse.

Whaaaat?

This horse is a therapist?

Well… sort of, yes!

Magic the therapy horse visits patients in various hospices, hospitals, families and

first responders.

She is one of a number of Gentle Carousel therapy horses, a charity that brings comfort

to those that need it most.

Magic went to visit one patient who had not spoken to anybody in three years.

The moment she saw her, she broke her silence by saying isn't she beautiful.

Sometimes being a Therapy horse allows you to dress up, too!

Look how fancy magic is in this picture!

2 - Meet the Dolphins who are in the US Navy!

The US Navy actually has a bunch of military trained marine life, including sea lions and

Dolphins.

On top of that, the Russians have now also employed combat dolphins!

In fact, military aquatic life isn't new, they were used in the Vietnam War, too.

There are a range of jobs in the Navy for Dolphins, they can protect military bases

and ships.

They can swim pretty darn fast and have sonar abilities.

Sharks with friggin lazers on their heads don't see, so ridiculous now, do they!

Finally at number one….

Meet Mayor of Sunol California, Bosco…the Black Labrador retriever and Rottweiler cross.

Sadly Bosco is dead now, but this beautiful pooch was a politician.

He was mayor of Sunol for 13 years until his death, taking office in 1981.

Bosco defeated two candidates, winning over the electorate.

While he is no longer with us, the Sunol residents have erected a statue in his honour which

is still there today outside the Post Office.

I hope he serves as an inspiration to all other aspiring mayor mongrels.

So that was the Top 10 Animals with jobs.

Hopefully this list goes to show how awesome animals are, and I really hope that nobody

abuses their good nature here.

I love animals!

What is your favourite animal?

Let me know.

OUT ETC…

Thanks so much for watching to the end, if you want to stick with this top 10 binge,

then why not check out our Top 10 People who think they're animals and the Top 10 Animals

who can talk.
