The History of Emmeria - Episode #15 - Stuff About Ace Combat - Duration: 12:30.

Welcome to the history of Emmeria documentary!

Emmeria, or officially the Republic of Emmeria, is a major country in the continent of Anea.

Emmeria is bordered by the Federal Republic of Estovakia to the east and the Kingdom of

Nordennavic to the northwest.

South of Emmeria is Yuktobania, located just across the Fuscum Sea, and to the north Emmeria

is bordered by the Arctic Ocean.

According to the 2013 census, Emmeria's population was of 110 million people, most

of them living on the south shore of the continent and the Island of Khesed - far from the mountainous

interior and the frigid temperatures of the Arctic.

When it comes to history, Emmeria's oldest records date way back into Strangereal's

middle ages around the 15th century.

Back in the 1400s, Emmeria was one of the kingdoms in the continent of Anea and the

early days the Kingdom of Emmeria was full of issues - both foreign and domestic.

Vassals and foreigners fought throughout time in order to control the fertile lands around

today's city of Gracemeria.

The ruler of Emmeria at the time, King Aurelius II, decided that enough was enough and followed

by assembling an army to first defeat the foreign invaders that were troubling the region.

As battles went on, King Aurelius' troops gradually became more powerful and skilled

as they fought against the foreigners, but it was when they built the Golden King sculpture

that their fame really caught on.

King Aurelius' troops became so battle hardened and famous that enemies would just lose their

will to fight upon seeing the golden king sculpture.

Although this sculpture was only created to increase morale of King Aurelius' unit,

it soon became their symbol and as history passed on the sculpture survived to become

a symbol of Emmeria itself even in modern-day Strangereal.

After King Aurelius troops' managed to expel the foreigners from invading Emmeria's land,

the king managed to convince the vassals to stop fighting not by threatening them but

by using the respect he had earned driving out the foreigners.

Upon gaining stability in the region of Gracemeria, Emmeria peacefully transitioned from a kingdom

to a republic, becoming one of the first, if not the first, democracies in Strangereal.

It must be mentioned however that the Emmerian royal family continued to exist with a high

degree of prestige within the Emmerian society.

The next known facts about Emmeria come from the late 1990s during the Ulysses-crisis.

In December of 1994, researchers from Usea's International Astronomical Union discovered

the existence of the Ulysses 1994XF04 asteroid which was bound to hit Strangereal.

However it was only on April 20 of 1996 that the discovery of the Asteroid was announced

to the general public.

Of course the public was shocked upon hearing the news however the asteroid was only expected

to hit the continent of Usea.

For the next three years, since the asteroid was supposed to hit Strangereal in 1999, thousands

of people left Usea prior to the impact of the asteroid as refugees.

All Strangereal nations to a greater or less extent, accepted the Usean refugees with Oured

and Gracemeria - in this order - becoming the two cities who received more refugees.

On June of 1998, a space probe that was sent to investigate the Ulysses asteroid found

out that the asteroid had a hollow interior and as result of this the asteroid would shatter

into various pieces when approaching Strangereal.

With this new discovery, the estimated impact area increased dramatically to include the

continent of Anea instead of just the center of Usea, which was more or less protected

by Stonehenge.

After hearing the news that Anea would be hit by Ulysses' fragments, Emmerians across

the country protested and the country was almost facing a civil unrest due the shocking

news but this was when Lord Alberto Lawrence, a member of the Emmerian royal family and

direct descendant of King Aurelius, used his influence to calm down the Emmerian citizens.

Lord Lawrence was a prominent public figure who would actually receive and greet refugees

as they arrived at Gracemeria's air force base.

It is also thanks to him that Emmeria accepted a great number of refugees and the country

increased cooperation with other nations in order to deal with the Ulysses crisis.

Since there was no more time modify Stonehenge, the Anean countries had just over an year

to respond to the imminent Ulysses crisis.

Estovakia focused on the development and construction of its own asteroid intercepting railgun -

the Chandelier - while Emmeria's strategy was to build several underground shelters throughout

the country to protect its population.

In the city of Gracemeria alone, 16 large and small underground shelters were being

built in early 1999 which had a capacity to accommodate about 200,000 people.

Then again, it was Lord Lawrence who proposed the creation of a particular shelter in Gracemeria

- the one under the castle.

The castle already had existing tunnels underneath it which could be expanded since the castle

was built over a firm area.

The position of the castle, on the top of a hill would also save the shelter from a

tsunami if fragments of the asteroid were to fall on the nearby sea.

Using his influence, Lord Lawrence also asked other kingdoms to do the same with their own

castles since most of them only had historical value.

Due to his humanitarian actions, Lord Lawrence was acclaimed as the King Aurelius of modern

time Emmeria.

Besides the construction of several underground shelters throughout the country, the Emmerian

military forces were also mobilized on the months prior to the fall of the Ulysses asteroid

to aid with transportation and support of international organizations and humanitarian aid.

It is said that while the Federation of Central Usea was taking the offensive against Ulysses

by using Stonehenge to intercept the asteroid, Emmeria was the one taking care of the defense.

From July 8 to July 20 of 1999, the Ulysses fragments started raining down on Strangereal

but Emmeria, with its vast network of underground shelters, was barely affected.

Unfortunately the same could not be said about its eastern neighbour of Estovakia who was

unable to finish construction of its asteroid-intercepting railgun and did not have shelters for its

civilian population.

In the year of 2000, Emmeria started to send aid to Estovakia so that the country could

recover from the Ulysses disaster.

However, after the disaster, the central Estovakian government became weak and several factions

controlled different parts of the country.

With so many factions disrupting the distribution of aid, Emmeria's aid program became impossible

and was soon suspended.

In the year of 2004, the preparatory agency for the Republic of Anea was founded whose

goal was to merge the three Anean countries - Emmeria, Estovakia and Nordennavic - into one.

The capital of the new republic would be the city of Mante, located in Emmeria, and this

preparatory agency made it into the G7 summit being hosted by Osea aboard the Arkbird in

the year of 2008.

Before that, though, it was in the year of 2007 that the Lyes United Front, a faction

in Estovakia, managed to take over Western Estovakia including its former capital.

The Emmerian government, who was willing to restart its aid program, thought that with

Western Estovakia being controlled by only one faction the Emmerians would be able to

provide humanitarian aid and speed up the Estovakian recovery.

Representatives from Emmeria and Lyes United Front (LUF for short) met and they both agreed

on the applications of the Emmerian aid according to LUF's rehabilitation project - and the

aid program between Emmeria and Estovakia was restarted.

As it turns out, the LUF took advantage of the Emmerian aid and began using it to suppress

other factions within Estovakia.

As a result of the LUF's actions, the Estovakian civil war started.

Despite the Republic of Anea being represented on the Arkbird in 2008 after the war started,

the project was frozen because of the civil war in Estovakia and all three countries returned

to their individual status.

Despite the ongoing civil war, Emmeria kept on sending aid to the LUF thinking it was

being used for humanitarian work while it was in actually fueling the LUF's forces.

The Emmerian aid program was only stopped in 2010 when the civil war really got out

hand and because the Emmerians cessed their aid program so late - already 3 years into

the civil war - other factions in Estovakia thought the Emmerians were supporters of the LUF.

In 2013 the Estovakian civil war came to end with a victory of the Eastern Faction over

the LUF and then again Emmeria restarted its aid program.

On February 4 of 2014, former members of the LUF attacked a humanitarian storage facility

in the city of Vistoc, Western Estovakia, killing eight Emmerian soldiers from the Emmerian

Reconstruction Assistance Force who were stationed there.

Apart from members of the military, there were other 27 civilian casualties at the site

and the supplies lost were meant for 50,000 people living in the region.

Smaller factions were known to be attacking convoys of supplies but this was the first

time an actual base was attacked.

Later on the same day, the Emmerian Ambassador to Estovakia met with Estovakia's foreign

minister and said that despite the attack, Emmeria had no plans of stopping the program.

Estovakia's foreign minister, Antonina Koznick, a former captain of the navy for the Eastern

Faction, mentioned that Emmeria was partially responsible for the Estovakian civil war by

assisting the Lyes United Front with supplies and the Emmerian Ambassador replied that it

wasn't the case and that the aid handed to the LUF was only meant for an early Estovakian recovery.

The Emmerian ambassador went further to say "Has she ever thought about their position

of being assisted?

I cannot help think that she is trying to take Estovakians' frustrations out on us Emmerians."

As you can see the attack and the subsequent meeting greatly increased tensions between

the two countries.

Later, on August 30 of 2015, Estovakia launched a surprise attack against Emmeria and the

Emmerian-Estovakian war began.

Estovakia quickly conquered most of the Emmerian mainland by using its Heavy Command Cruiser

but wasn't able to stop Emmeria's counterattack even when they deployed the Chandelier into

the conflict.

After Emmeria reconquered its capital of Gracemeria and destroyed the Estovakian railgun, the

Estovakian military regime was overthrown and a ceasefire was arranged between the two

nations thus ending the conflict - and this concludes the history of the Republic of Emmeria.

According to this interesting new story from the Herald Review, studies that were completed

upon sedimentary rock in Antarctica have given us undeniable and conclusive evidence that

palm trees once grew there in that land long covered by ice as also heard in the 1st video

below.

As the author of the Herald story asks, how is that possible when nothing other than primitive

vegetation grows there today?

As we hear in the 3rd and final video below featuring Clif High of the Web Bot project,

the data that he mines every day tells him that something very, very strange is going

on in Antarctica, and each day he's getting more and more indications that something huge

is ramping up down there.

Sharing with us evidence he's gotten through his internet word-monitoring project that,

beyond many visits made by the elite to Antarctica, including Newt Gingrich himself in February

of 2017 as seen in the Twitter screenshot below, he also sees a big ramping up of jobs

in Antarctica including highly elite globalist corporations, (one with long ties to the UFO

coverup!), and the numbers of military passes there indicate to him a major operation is

being prepared for.

Between large tracts of land in Australia and New Zealand being dedicated to something

new and still mysterious, he also tells us of the creations of new cargo routes from

the areas closest to the land of ice, where it is now winter.

High tells us he expects we may see something huge during the Antarctic spring while telling

us one of the biggest indicators of what might be happening there now are the huge number

of high tech companies becoming involved.

He also tells us that whatever it is, the American people may never hear anything about

it with the companies now involved.

According to the Professional Overseas Contractors website, a new company called LEIDOS recently

took over the massive Antarctic support contract formerly held by deep-state, military-industrial-complex

tied Lockheed Martin.

Their story interestingly mentions that nowhere on LEIDOS company history page did they mention

their parent company, a mega-giant for the 'deep state' called SAIC, the Scientific Applications

International Company.

And as High tells us in this video, SAIC has deep ties to the secrecy surrounding UFO's,

history that can be traced by those willing to investigate it including a slew of CEO's

from the military-industrial-complex including retired US Navy Admiral and CIA Deputy Director

Bobby Ray Inman, who's held several influential positions within the intelligence community,

including time at SAIC, and who has long been believed to be one of the 'UFO Gatekeepers'.

Interestingly we also learn that the reason SAIC created LEIDOS was that they were unable

to bid on certain government contracts as SAIC, but as LEIDOS they were able to bid

upon them.

Add in the fact that Lockheed Martin's Antarctica contract was supposed to run through 2025

but was 'conveniently' cut short, with LEIDOS taking over, and all kinds of questions arise

that need to be answered with the starter: What is REALLY going on down there?

Divine.

over (mainly) the last 24hours

That is all that I can say right now as this is still unfolding from when I was given the

Yet in the human in another aspect, the �below� of the �above�, I am being let know that

�we do not want/need to know� the �full picture� what this was and I am fine with

And the Divine and Beyond has this in �hand�.

As I wrote this, I was guided to draw 3 cards in relation to the energies �right now�.

And it is very interesting as to what �came�.

Change of Mind: That we are �moving into a higher level of cognitive functioning.

This is a direct affect of the shifting vibrations frequencies on the planet�.

Union: As this could be union within and �above� and �below� as well.

Voice: �No more holding back.

No more staying small.

You are a spark of God.

Stand up for yourself.

Stand tall in what you believe.

Speak from your heart and your words will always be heard�.

This I can very much relate to.

As when we are finding our new �voice� in this world from within ourselves, many

have said to me and I also felt this in my growth that �others are not listening or

hearing me�.

When we come from our hearts and say what something is for us, from our Heart Space

and we �hear ourselves� then those that also feel and hear us, will.

Those that do not, well, we can then choose if we wish to share what I call our �liquid

Gold� energy or not.

It is about believing in ourselves and sharing and saying what �something is for us�.

And with those who are now �finding their voice�, it is a process and can take a �little

time�.

As there can be old emotions that arise when we do so..and the more we share, the more

strength we feel in doing so�and then can come the other end of the pendulum.

That of sharing in a �venting� way.

Back and forth we can go with this.

Finding a very new balance.

I love you and all you are as does the Divine.

CHANGE OF MIND

This card comes when we are in the process of moving into a higher level of cognitive

functioning.

This is a direct affect of the shifting vibrational frequencies on the planet.

Those how are ready for these new frequencies will begin to notice changes in their physical

and energetic processes.

The card signifies a shifting of your conscious functioning.

Your cognitive processes are beginning to operate within the field of the higher frequencies.

This can be seen as a change in your perception of how you view yourself, how you view this

world, and your understanding of your innate connection with Source.

Your may find yourself making decisions on abstract knowings.

You will start to understand the underlying causes behind the actions and behaviours of

others.

You will find you are clearer in what your own truth is and feel more empowered in it.

cohesive faculty.

or doing things you would never have considered before.

There could be mild irritability and a lack of patience with yourself and others.

Do not worry if you find yourself frustrated with your mind�s inability to process information

quickly during this time.

Once the energy shift is complete, you will be mentally clear and vibrant.

UNION

The Union card represents the energy of two loving souls coming together in a union or

partnership.

If a current relationship is in question, then this card indicates a positive energy

is involved.

This card can represent the beginning of a new relationship or one that is about to start.

Most often, the Union card represents the beginning of a new relationship, or one that

is about to start.

Most often, the Union card represents intimate relationships.

However, it can also point to other types of partnerships such as business partners,

very close friendships, or even room-mates.

In any case, the Union card communicates the predestined convergence and soul connection

of two individuals.

Whoever the person is that is in in your life right now, or whoever it is that is moving

into your life, is of great significance as far as your soul lessons are concerned.

This is a beautiful opportunity for personal growth and conscious expansion of your heart

centre.

Sometimes these relationships bring up our deeply held beliefs about the quality of love

we feel we deserve.

They can help to raise our consciousness and understanding, so that we feel safe to allow

this person to see into the deepest, most vulnerable parts of ourselves.

With these types of relationships, one thing is for certain-you will grow and learn from

them.

Enjoy all the good this union has to offer.

Be as open as possible to recognising your triggers, fears, and old patterns of behaviour.

Be mindful of when you are feeling the need to hide or protect yourself, or if you begin

to fear losing their love.

This will enable you to consciously address and heal any old issues and wounds of the

past.

This is a part of the soul agreement that you and this person share.

You have come together to help each other to become whole, healed, and open to love

in every way.

Let your voice be heard!

You are a beautiful and wise being of the Divine, made to bring forth your individual

truth and expression.

No more holding back.

No more staying small.

You are being called now to use the gift of your words and the power of your voice.

What you have to say is important.

What you have to share is needed.

You could be finding yourself being asked to step-out in front of groups to talk or

you may be finding that situations keep coming up where you are being given an opportunity

to be vocal about what you think, believe, or feel.

For many of us, this does not come easily.

Often, we have had past experiences which discouraged us from expression ourselves openly.

It is time to begin to heal those old understandings and allow yourself to be seen and heard.

Each of us has a unique expression.

Whether you are being asked to sing, chant, pray, speak or teach � it is your voice

that needs to be heard.

This can also be related to simply stating what is true for you in your relationships.

It could involve stating your point-of-view, needs, or desires � regardless of how different

they may be.

It�s time to remember who you are.

You are a spark of God.

I really don't care. Whether a man with a man or a woman with a woman, who wants to marry shall marry.

I'm not a fan or marriage but it's good that people now have the possibilty to marry.

It's great and it was about time.

It was about time. We (Germany) was quite late to the game and I think it is the right way.

It's a wrong decision, you have to call it differently. It's not about how a few people live together...

But the constitution say clearly that marriage and family are protected.

That hasn't been taken into consideration.

I'm happy for those who soon are able to marry.

What was your first reaction to it?

I was happy because I think regardless of the gender you have to have the same right.

If men love men and women love women, it's totally acceptable to me and they should have the same rights.

Relieved. I didn't lose all faith in our politics.

I've seen it at work and saw the confetti rain and that made me really happy.

I've called a lot of my friends who are affected and a lot of them also celebrated.

I was surprised by the happines by some of the members of the parliament.

Finally Germany is more open minded.

Ridiculous. (Can you explain it). It is not an interesting topic.

It doesn't work. It's not about the rights because they already have them and...

it is just about formality. I don't understand all of it.

What could this mean for the German society?

An overall rethinking because it is not only about the same rights in terms of certain laws...

...it's also about raising children or who has which role...

... we still think in this old scheme, that's the woman and that's the man.

It's important that this discussion is held more openly, away from discrimination to family policies...

foster care, adoption, rainbow families and so on.

It's important to see the political signal to discuss these things more openly.

Perhaps some rethink it whether or not this has space within their own values.

I think 2/3 of all Germans don't really care about it.

In 20, 30 years it is going to be totally normal, not a lot will complain, it was about time and it was right.

More open discussions, more acceptance and people dare to deal with it more openly.

I see a little problem in terms of all the roughly 10 million Non-Germans in Germany.

We have to consider the point of view of other religions and some of these might have a problem with that.

But also in regards to the Christianity...

But also in regards to the Christianity... ...they should also rethink their point of view to really push these social changes forward.

Last question to you, the marriage for all in three words.

You should be HAPPY together, you should develope common GOALS and...

...having CHILDREN.

The opinions do reflect these 82% of people who are (rather) in favor of the marriage for all.

So it it quite right but this right was just a small amount of people compared to entire Germany and not really representative.

Parallelism in C++ :: Part 4/3: Some afterwords - Duration: 11:29.

Hello!

I just thought of making an update to the parallellism in C++ series,

now that it has been about a week, and I have gotten lots of feedback.

After episode 1, a few people wondered

whether it is actually possible to encapsulate

those horrible-looking but powerful intrinsics,

into a nice template class interface.

And the answer is: Yes, yes it is.

In fact,

there is already considerable prior work.

For instance, there is a relatively new library,

Boost.SIMD, just for that purpose.

I highly recommend you to check it out.

It even does trigonometric functions.

I have not tested it,

but I read through its source code,

and it seems really-really neat.

It even has a remarkable test suite.

Thank you Josua Rieder for telling me.

And there are other libraries.

Libsimdpp by Povilas Kanapickas –

supports more SIMD architectures than Boost.SIMD does,

but it does not have as complete –

a mathematical functional library as Boost.SIMD does.

Then, there was some confusion –

about the words I said about compilers and optimizations.

First, how good compilers are at optimizing SIMD?

The answer is, in general, really bad.

To paraphrase floodyberry's reply at reddit,

to take advantage of compiler's SIMD optimizations,

you must explicitly design and write your code –

as if you were writing SIMD intrinsics,

with attention to data layout, working in blocks and so on,

and then just hope the compiler does its thing.

But it is not reliable,

and your mileage depends on the compiler –

and even on the compiler version.

There is a good reason why X264,

a well-known free software library –

for a particular type of video transcoding,

has a significant portion of its source code –

written in assembler.

But I also said that the notion –

that you should not try to beat your compiler –

at optimizing, is hogwash.

In the general case, you should stick to that principle.

Very often, it does not matter –

whether compiler generates most optimal code or not.

If you are invoking system library functions,

like for instance, reading a file,

chances are that any miniscule improvements,

that you might achieve –

by architecture-dependent expect hacker optimizations,

are totally irrelevant,

because the operating system calls are –

an order of magnitude slower than your code.

Or perhaps you might otherwise be able –

to change the entire algorithm in your program –

into a categorically faster one,

if you didn't taint the code with micro-optimizations –

that prevent you from seeing the big picture,

and as a consequence,

your code is not only slower than it could be,

but also unmaintainable,

because of the fragile micro-optimizations.

You see,

compilers are very good at optimizing regular code.

The more average your code is,

the better they are at optimizing.

For example, very often a extremely complicated –

and sophisticated template struct magic thing in C++ –

has been optimized down into –

just a couple of register movement instructions in assembler,

as I demonstrated in –

the C++ for C programmers lesson one video.

And that is as it should be.

So I would just like to clarify that thing.

It is only when you get into –

very sophisticated level of detail,

in performance-critical, self-contained, concise code,

that you might be able to outsmart the compiler,

and achieve tangible benefit,

if you know exactly what you are doing.

After episode 2, some people wanted to know –

how does the performance change –

if we use both threads and SIMD, but not GPU offloading.

Well, I had initially considered –

that a bit too niche request,

but I made a chart anyway.

Here it is.

Episode 3 left one question hanging:

Why was the performance –

in the OpenMP and OpenACC versions so bad?

Well, first of all,

there was a misconception on my part.

In both versions, I had a clause –

that caused a couple of simple variables –

to be copied to the GPU memory.

This was actually a bad idea,

because what it means is that –

memory will be separately allocated on the GPU –

for those variables.

It is better to default those variables as "firstprivate",

meaning they are treated like function parameters.

Secondly in the OpenMP version,

I had a "collapse" clause, which was a good idea,

but in the OpenACC version I didn't have it.

This was totally an oversight from my part.

I forgot to check whether OpenACC has something similar,

and yes it does.

After fixing these two problems,

the OpenACC performance reached –

almost the same level as the CUDA version,

although it's still not quite there for some reason.

The OpenMP version is still slow though.

Why it is so slow, is still a total mystery.

My guess is that the GCC implementation –

is still so very recent,

that it is immature and largely unoptimized,

and because of this,

it has a number of performance problems –

that have yet to be weeded out.

Quite a lot of people were a little disappointed –

that I only covered CUDA in the video, and not OpenCL.

For those who don't know,

CUDA is a thing developed by NVidia in 2007.

It has only ever been supported by NVidia cards.

Users of cards from other manufacturers,

like ATI or Intel, had nothing of the sorts.

And then OpenCL was developed in 2009.

OpenCL is now supported –

by a number of graphics card manufacturers,

and also by a few other sorts of compute devices.

It should be obviously the better choice, right?

Why did I not cover it in my video series?

There's three reasons.

Firstly, from the start –

my video series was going to be –

about ways to do parallelism in GCC –

without installing anything extra.

The focus was going to be in GCC, and nothing else.

Back then I had a graphics card –

that a friend lent to me.

The graphics card was the NVidia GTX 560,

which only has compute level 2.

The code generated by GCC requires compute level 3,

so I was unable to actually test the code generated by GCC,

except with extraordinary hacks.

So I grew genuinely curious, and tried out CUDA.

And it was surprisingly easy, and I thought to myself,

I must introduce this to people too.

A couple of months later,

I actually did buy an NVidia GTX 970,

using money contributed by Patreon supporters,

and I was finally able to try the GCC offloading code –

on the actual device,

but at that point my GCC installation was broken –

and none of the offloading versions worked.

It was only after GCC 7 was released,

that I tried reinstalling the offloading GCC builds,

and I figured out that ditching HSA support made it work,

so I began making the videos.

The second reason is,

when I wanted to check out OpenCL back then,

for some reason or another,

I had troubles getting it working on my computer.

I can no longer remember what those problems are.

Whatever the case, it kept me from trying out OpenCL.

The third reason is that…

Well, look at OpenCL.

This is supposedly a "simple" example of using OpenCL.

It's ugly!

So much boilerplate code.

So much stuff you must set up –

and initialize and prepare and configure,

and functions you must call in order to accomplish anything.

Nope.

Nope, nope, nope.

That's not how you do usability for programmers.

That's just not my style.

It does not make for a good and easily understandable –

entertaining lesson in a YouTube video.

You do that kind of thing when you have no choice,

when it's just the way things have to be done.

But it is not the way that is fun to code –

and to learn.

But there is one more way to leverage GPU power.

That is, by using OpenGL, or maybe Vulkan,

or a certain vendor-specific library.

Compute shaders can be used –

to do arbitrary calculation on the GPU,

and the best thing is,

they work on nearly all graphics cards and operating systems.

The downside is that –

compute shaders are used exclusively for GPUs.

You cannot use them to offload computation –

for coprocessors like the Xeon Phi.

So why did I not cover compute shaders in my video series?

Simply because the focus was,

from the beginning,

how to do parallelism in GCC.

And libraries like OpenGL or Vulkan –

do not come supplied with GCC,

nor are they part of the C++ standard.

That, and I was only too vaguely aware –

of the existence of compute shaders –

as a separate and usable class of shaders,

compared to, say, vertex shaders.

But now you do know, and you can go ahead –

studying and learning more!

Finally, there were one or more requests –

to see the different renderers in real time.

So here is a desktop recording –

of each program rendering the fractal –

in real time at 480p resolution.

Do note that because I'm also using the same computer –

to record the desktop and to transcode into a video file,

I am not getting as good performance –

as I would if the fractal renderer were the only program running.

And that is the extent of material –

I had prepared for this video.

Blockbusters That Were Seriously Changed For China - Duration: 5:37.

With over a billion potential movie fans, China has quickly become Hollywood's most

coveted demographic, which explains why studios are bending over backwards to appeal to Chinese

audiences and appease Chinese government censors.

It happens all the time, but here's a look at some of the most blatant examples of movies

Hollywood was forced to change for China.

Star Trek Beyond

After J.J. Abrams departed the Star Trek franchise, Taiwanese director Justin Lin was brought

in to give Star Trek Beyond some of the kick he had previously provided to four Fast and

Furious films.

During the Asian press tour for Star Trek Beyond, Lin revealed that he tailor made the

film to appeal to Chinese audiences specifically, interviewing Chinese film fans to see what

they liked.

"I talked to a lot of people on why they go to movies, what kind of movies they want to

see.

And the thing that I got back was that everyone here, such great people and they work so hard,

and they want to get a sense of like to escape and to really kind of just enjoy, have fun,

laugh and enjoy big action, and I feel like this movie is tailor-made for the Chinese

audience."

Midnight Cowboy

If there's one thing Chinese censors really don't like, it's LGBTQ characters and themes.

For decades, the government has cracked down on everything gay, leading to some films being

butchered beyond comprehension.

Case in point: the 1969 classic Midnight Cowboy, which one Chinese-Malaysian film buff described

in Anthropologica as a confusing mess when he saw a censored version in the 1970's.

"The first thing about homosexuality that I remember making an impact on me was the

movie Midnight Cowboy.

It made me more confused than ever.

I didn't speak English and trying to read the subtitles in Chinese, I didn't know what

was going on.

It was very badly edited for Chinese audiences."

​X-Men: Days of Future Past

When it comes to tokenism, Chinese superstar Fan Bingbing has had more than her share of

problems, particularly with superhero films.

After being signed up for Iron Man 3, it turned out her role was for a scene that only appeared

in the Chinese release.

And her experience on X-Men: Days of Future Past was almost as bad.

Bingbing signed a contract to appear in four X-Men films, but instead, her character Blink

has been in just one, with barely any dialogue to show for it.

Bingbing told The Star that she had her suspicions when director Bryan Singer contacted her about

the role.

"In the comics, Blink is a Caucasian girl, so I was curious why Bryan [Singer] wanted

an Asian to play the role."

Unfortunately, we all know the answer.

Transformers: Age of Extinction

The producers behind Transformers: Age of Extinction went all out to pander to Chinese

audiences.

Not only were some of the film's biggest moments filmed in China, the movie's world premiere

was held in Hong Kong.

Plus, it's jam packed with product placement, some of which doesn't even make sense, like

Chinese ATMs in Texas.

But hey, of all the things that make no sense about the Transformers films, that's not even

in the top fifty.

​The Karate Kid

This remake of the classic '80s Karate Kid changed essentially everything about the original

in order to appeal to Chinese audiences.

In fact, it's not even about karate at all, as the updated version features Jaden Smith

moving to China, where he learns the finer points of the Chinese art of kung fu from

Hong Kong legend Jackie Chan.

The pandering was bad enough that The Guardian suggested it should come with disclaimer that

the film was brought to you by the "China National Tourist Office".

Sounds about right.

Logan

Given how hyper violent the superhero blockbuster Logan was, it's no surprise that censors ended

up pressuring Fox into cutting a whopping 14 minutes from the film's run time.

What's surprising is that they didn't demand even more cuts.

In fact, Logan was the first film released in China under a new, less restrictive law

that introduced the concept of age-based film ratings, with fans being warned in advance

that "'elementary school students and pre-school children must be accompanied by parents or

guardians."

Essentially, China got a PG rated version of Logan, rather a G rated version.

Baby steps!

Cloud Atlas

Audiences all over the world were perplexed by the convoluted and complex sci-fi opus

Cloud Atlas, which wove multiple storylines in multiple time periods together to form

a larger epic narrative.

But film fans trying to figure out the plot in China faced an even more daunting challenge,

as censors cut an incredible 40 minutes from the film, including an entire storyline involving

a same sex romance between in 1930's Britain.

The film's three directors, Tom Tykwer and Lana and Lilly Wachowski, claimed to be totally

fine with the changes, telling reporters in China that they trusted their Chinese distributors

to get the edits right.

But if you really want to understand the story, you might be better off just reading the book.

Independence Day: Resurgence

Since the original Independence Day was never released in China, Fox had to go a different

route in drumming up interest in 2016's sequel.

They started by writing a story where America teams up with China to save the world, and

followed that up by casting Chinese pop star Angelababy in a minor role and then heavily

hyping her bit part in promotional material.

Chinese audiences found that annoying, but not as bad as some of the blatant product

placement.

Not only does Liam Hemsworth's American pilot inexplicably use Chinese instant messaging

service QQ…

"Give them a little credit, Jake…"

...but a Chinese drink called Moon Milk features prominently, leaving perplexed viewers venting

their frustrations online.

One Weibo user sarcastically posted, "When getting revenge on evil aliens, everyone should

take two boxes of MengNiu Moon Milk with them."
