back when we were developing Starcraft we were probably around 50 people we
were better scrappy as you could get small passionate involved kind of hours
but it was just it was fun we had just come off of you know Warcraft 1 and
Warcraft 2 and we're like it is such a fun game so we wanted to try our hand at
doing a sci-fi version of it Starcraft is what the you spawned out of the whole
thing
we had just been crunching a ton and found out we had this sort of show
coming up so we had to kind of make Starcraft really quick really was just
to rescan on the Warcraft 2 engine the colors were just super in-your-face
everything was kind of overly fake and cartoony and we still have like the
top-down view and everybody was like oh basically orcs in space we kind of felt
like we got our asses handed to us we need to make some serious changes the
vision was so far beyond what the technology could do at the time we
needed to redo the game engine in order to really get that vision that we had
been looking for doing three races in StarCraft just seemed obvious
there's Terrans there's creepy crawlies that became Zerg and there's
high-concept aliens that were the Protoss how do you balance three
different races that are completely different the way to do it was to have
counters for everything so they're always strengths and weaknesses and
everything had something that could counter it and then that actually added
a lot of depth and strategy to the game I don't know that we had quantified
expectations and certainly whatever those expectations were it far exceeded
them to the community it became a platform for competition in ways that we
couldn't imagine we never really know what the true sort of worth of this game
is though until our fans in our community get it and then they show us
the things that we've done right they show things that we've done wrong and
they help us polish these games into the awesome games that they are it's really
as a thank you and in support of that community that we decided to make the
remastered version we're not trying to improve you can't mess with perfection
but rather we're bringing what was cutting-edge in 1998 back to today's
standards in 2017

Today I wish to take you with me on the hunt for a very special animal which I'd like to take a picture of.
Everyone knows it. It's Germanys biggest marten, the badger.
But not anyone knows that the badger is a member of the family of martens.
You probably think of the ordinary stone marten, who likes to get under the bonnet of your car and bites cables.
But from a biology point of view the family of martens is slightly bigger.
Ordinary badgers belong there, too.
And those I am searching for today and hope to take a picture of them.
I did some preparations.
Here in the wood I already know a burrow.
There I installed a camera trap a week ago.
That means, I can watch every moving at the burrow for a week on my computer.
The camera takes a picture when a badger or a fox moves into our out of the burrow.
Now I can check at which time there was any activity;
than I can take the big camera and take a real picture. But let's check the burrow first.
Now I'm at the burrow. I de-installed the camera trap already.
I want to explain how I know, that this is a burrow of badgers even though I didn't see the animals yet.
There are some signs that help to differentiate a badger from a fox burrow.
Even though you can't see it so well here, but there is a thin channel that leads inwards to the burrow.
This channel is typical for a badger burrow.
Moreover the badger burrow is wider than a fox burrow.
You need some experience. If you look into it, it looks more like badger.
There are quite some most recent feces. This means that the building is also inhabited. .
You can also see a path system leading to the fields and further into the forest.
So, judging from the inspection of the construction, you can see many wild trails that look well done.
These are indications that this building is really used.
That somone lives in here, whether it's badger or fox. Because a fox sometimes lives within a burrow, too.
This is quite possible. I do not know yet. We just have to look at what is on the SD card.
And then I 'll see how we process from here. Hope, that I can take some nice pictures of the badger here.
So, I go through the videos of the camera. It was busy. All badger activity. That's great. The problem is that they came out extremely late.
The one here at 9:32 pm, was the earliest I've ever caught, but that too is too late for photography or filming.
This is simply too dark. Especially because the burrow was on the north side of a slope in the forest.
That means, there is nothing. I have to think about something different.
I will speak to my colleagues, other nature photographers.
Whether one of them might know about a burrow to visit, which looks slightly better.
I got a tip from a colleague. He has a burrow, which has been well visited for years.
And today I will try my luck. I have the camera equipment and camouflage clothes in the trunk.
Do not be surprised once you see me. what I look like in the forest.
Camouflage is a very important tool in nature observation, in nature photography.

It is a bit further away from paths and roads. Not many pedestrians come along. And the animals are quite undisturbed.
Badges are nocturnal animals. But because of the fact that hardly anyone is passing through, they are also more likely to leave the building earlier in the evening.
This means now in the last day light, the sun goes down, I have very good chances to catch them again.
And for photography and filming, of course, the best thing is to have a bit of light.
That's why we're trying it now. We have to stand very quietly. Badgers can hear extremely well and smell extremely good.
You have to pay attention to where the wind comes from. What badgers can not do well: See.
That is to say, if I really keep my mouth shut, and stay calm, then I have the possibility to get very close.

There are infinitely many mosquitoes here.
As you can see, I am not the only one who is so bothered. The badger is also scratching itself all the time.
I think, yes, there is just another second badger coming out of the burrow.
Badgers are, by the way, not morose loners, as science has once assumed.
These are highly social animals, living larger family associations, so-called clans. Often also for generations.
As a rule, there is an alpha male, an alpha female, for that the animals reproduce themselves.
The rest of the clan often consist of offspring from earlier in the same year, but also from previous years.
But this can also be family-wide; that several badger families live together in one burrow-construction.
However, only the alphas reproduce themselves.
I think now, when the fur maintenance is finished, then the badgers will soon go out and leave the vicinity of the building.
Most of the night, they hunt for food within a region of several hundred meters around the building for food.
This can really be anything for a badger, which is an omnivore.
Much of the plant is actually herbal diet. Corn is, for example, very popular. To the chagrin of many farmers.
And in case the badger wishes to eat other animals, the earthworm plays an important role. They also eat mice, insects.
The nests of groundbreeding birds are also often plundered.
Really everything that a badger finds, be it maize, he also eats.

Or, one was outside already and came back. We have now seen two animals.
One was the female. There, one could see the dugs.
And the other animal is a bit smaller. Probably a young animal from the previous year.
But awesome. Extremely close.
A few times they looked into my direction, but did not seem to have disturbed very much.

So today I'm back with a different video of what I used to do
because I thought
that it might be interesting for you (and for me too)
to approach certain issues through a video
like this one.
My studies
So actually, I started by doing a high School degreee in Litterature when I was in high school.
And after my degree I went to university.
I went to the Faculty of Fine Arts in Strasbourg
And there I decided to follow the Design training.
Because in the university
either you study Plastic Arts or Design.
I did design
and at the end of 3 years of university,
I got my Visual Arts degree, that is to say last year
in 2016.
After my degree, I confess: I didn't what I wanted to do.
And after ? Continue in University ? Other school ? Going abroad ? Change training ?
So I just decided to take a year off.
During this year
I worked.
In fact, I went to a temporary work agency
and took the 1st job they gave me.
I did this for 9 months.
In March 2017, I decided to set up on my own
that is to say, now I am a freelance graphic designer/illustrator.
And in May 2017, I arrived here in Melbourne.
My animations
In regards to the animations on my Youtube channel
it's either Photoshop or After Effects.
Usually I always put the software that I use in the description box.
But in reality,
I think 90% of my animations on YouTube
are made with Photoshop.
Because I prefer the result
with this software.
And also because I master
40 million times better this software than After Effects.
In relation to this
I will never make any tutorials.
At least, not for the moment,
because I never followed any specific training.
So I still don't master enough this topic to
make a tutorial
Since when I draw
I draw since always,
since kindergarten.
Except where other people turn to other passions,
other hobbies,
for me it has always been drawing.
My camera + my editing software
So I started my YouTube channel
with a Canon 1100D
Actually, I haven't bought this camera to start a YouTube channel.
I just bought this Canon because I wanted to start photography.
So I had a Canon 1100D
with the basic kit lens :
18-55mm.
I bought a 50mm.
Then I sold my Canon 1100D for
the Canon 60D.
Always with the 18-55mm and 50mm.
And after I sold again everything
and I bought the compact which I film this video with
which is a Sony Rx100v II.
And I forgot !
My editing software is Final Cut Pro.
Where I find inspiration
To be honest, this question is a bit complicated.
I don't have a specific thing that inspires me,
I will not tell you that if I go to a particular place I would always feel inspired.
It depends on my mood,
the place where I am.
For example, I know that I can create much more when I am in a place
that moves, like a city.
I know that I'm always inspired
after a music concert...
It also depends on the people I meet.
There are some people when I see them, I find
they radiate something.
They radiate positive vibes
and you feel inspired by these people.
It depends
Well, I don't a specific thing that inspires me,
I think it's a whole.
My graphic tablet
My tablet is a
Bamboo Pen & Touch
And I think I have it for 5 years now and
I never had any problems with it.
So this is really something I would you recommend
if you need a tablet to start.
Where I find my music.
For music is either SoundCloud or YouTube.
