Hi, everyone
today I'd like to do a recommendation
on the top 5 cantonese learning resources
which includes
internet website
Instagram account
smartphone apps
YouTube Channels and
Movies.
there's no commercials included.
it is just based on my personal experience
and some internet's reviews that i read online.
(plz rmb to subscribe if you haven't! ^ ^)
The first one that I'd recommend
is a website called Cantolounge
hope i pronounced it correctly xd
erm, It is a very comprehensive website
first of all
they have a video about cantonese pronunciation
And they also have the Jyutping Chart
which is the cantonese pronunciation chart
you can click on each combination
of the vowels and consonants
and it does not only provide you with the pronunciation
pronunciation, but also related vocabularies
and English explanation
and apart from that they also explained quite well
on the Cantonese grammar
which includes
Cantonese pronouns, cantonese Quantifiers
Cantonese word orders and
To be honest, I don't know much about these myself.
I was pretty impressed when I first see it
So please check it out
I think it will be very useful
and they also provide some free ebooks
Such as "39 words you will never learn from textbooks"
and the complete Cantonese learning guide
erm, I also downloaded it
and subscribed to the newsletter
and apparently they really don't spam you
So yeah, this would be the first one that I recommend
Okay, let's move on to the second category
Which is smartphone apps.
of course if you search "Cantonese"
in the app market
you will be able to find a good bunch of Cantonese learning apps
But after trying some of them
I think I would recommend this one
called "Learn Cantonese Daily"
The interface is quite clean
and they have a good number of different categories
Such as greetings,
Transportation, Accommodation or Emergency
for example if you want to say 我唔見咗我個銀包
I lost my wallet
it does not only provide the Cantonese words
but also English translation and
Cantonese pronunciation guide with the listening part
我唔見咗我個銀包
and you can also save it
in your favorite list
and after using it for a while.
erm, I realized that it actually
do remind you to learn cantonese daily =v=''
so I think it would be a really handy tool
for you to learn cantonese on the go
and, I also like the fact that
They don't have a lot of pop-up advertisements
They only have a small one underneath
So I think it is good (not so disturbing)
The second one that I would recommend
would be a Cantonese dictionary called
Cantonese English dictionary Pro-free
erm, so, for that one
you can type using (either) Cantonese, Chinese
Pinyin, which they are actually referring to Jyutping
or (you can also type in ) English
for example, now if we type "you"
or "nei" (the Jyutping of 你)
then words like 你哋,
which is you in plural
or 你哋嘅 = "yours" will come out
and, if you click in there
You will be able to see the English explanation
erm, pinyin which actually is Jyutping
and the Listening part
你哋嘅
they also have the simplified Chinese version
which is Mandarin
but I don't recommend
because very often they just speak
the Cantonese words directly in Mandarin
in this case, 你哋嘅
Mandarin speakers might just say 你們的
but they will NOT say
ni di ge
it's just not it.
so I don't recommend the simplified Chinese part
But I highly recommend you using this
to search for cantonese words
Alright. Let's move on to the Instagram account.
I would recommend this one called (display name) Cantonjoy
or (username) Cantonnjoy
I find this useful
coz there're quite a lot of words which idk as well
for example,
摩爛蓆 means linger around
and it does not only provide the Cantonese word
pronunciation and simple English translation
but also really detailed background
about the word or phrase itself
so...erm,
I find it pretty interesting
and I think this ac deserves a high number of followers
but yea, anyway.
This is the one that I would recommend
and, our fourth Category
is Youtube channels
of course, I also have a Cantonese tutorial playlist
Which we have around 22 episodes right now,
and I will continue to update it
But if you asked me to recommend a YouTube channel for learning cantonese,
I would say Cantonese 101
I know, I was also a bit skeptical at first
but admittedly they are indeed one of those
biggest language learning platform
Service providers in these days,
they do post a wide range of Canto learning materials
Regularly on YouTube
so in terms of free learning materials.
I think it'd still be good if you can keep track on their
YouTube Channel Updates.
Lastly, our final category is
Movies
well some of you have asked me
about Cantonese drama recommendations before
But I realized that most of them don't provide Eng subs
So instead of recommending dramas
I'd recommend movies
well personally I love watching indie films
Recently I came across a newspaper article
called
the 50 best Hong Kong films since the 1997 Handover
and I only watched around 30 percent of them
so I also have to catch up on the list
But I think most of them are pretty good
esp as they are the editors' recommendation
so I'll also put the link in the description box below
pick one which interests you
And actually, I'm also thinking of making
monthly Cantonese song recommendation on YT or FB,
but I'm still planning on how to make it
coz...you know
music is quite a personal preference
so please stay tuned and
In the future we're going to have more Canto vlogs
with CANTO + ENG bilingual subtitles
because I realized that they are already a good bunch of
formal Learning materials online
but not really enough daily Life materials
which can show you the real life conversation,
and how we actually use the language,
so sven though I'm making those vlogs
with bilingual on-screen subtitles
will be much more time consuming
But I do want to give it a try
because I think it will be beneficial for you
and get access to a much wider range of CANTO vocab
and phrases
if you have any other cantonese questions
Please feel free to ask in any of our videos
or you can message me on Facebook
Please also go like and follow our Facebook page.
Which i'd just opened for this channel
because I will be sharing more posts about catanese or
Hong Kong Culture there
so...
Yea ^^
thanks for watching ( ^ ^ )/
