Waching daily Jul 27 2017

The Volkswagen up! was introduced in the Netherlands in 2012.

It was available in Germany a bit sooner. It was introduced in the Netherlands in April 2012.

The first German car was sold in December 2011.

The up! had to replace 2 cars. First, the Fox. It was super cheap and built in South America.

That was apparent. The quality wasn't great.

Second, the Lupo. It was built in Europe, but that was a rather expensive car.

This had to be the solution. A relatively affordable car that is built in Europe; in Slovakia.

There are 2 other factories, in Russia and India, where up!s are built,

but those are for other markets than the European one.

The up! has 2 body types: 3 doors and 5 doors.

What more can I tell? There are 2 triplet brothers. Twins.

Whatever. Škoda and Seat have up! versions called Citigo and Mii.

Those are comparable cars with the same engine.

There are differences in options and finish, but the basis is the same.

The engine is a 1.0 3-cylinder ranging from 59 to 89 hp.

The up! has an electric version as well, the e-up! or 'eup'.

It's up to you how to pronounce it.

That version has 81 hp. Electric hp. You should say kW.

Many kW, I don't know how much. The variety on biogas has 61 hp, but that's the same engine.

ENGINES gasoline, electric

The cars for sale on Marktplaats.nl.

Nearly 1,100 up!s are for sale at the moment. That's a lot.

The devision between the 3-door and 5-door cars is about 1:4.

Automatic transmissions are rare. About 50, so that's not many. 1:20.

On the other hand, you don't want the automatic transmission. We'll talk about that later.

Prices range from 4,500 to 27,000 euros.

The cars with a combustion engine end at 20,000 euros, but the young EVs are more expensive.

Those go up to the 27,000-28,000 euros.

If you drive it as a business car, a 2017 car has 4% additional tax liability.

If it's older, it can be 0% up to 5 years after the first registration. Keep that in mind.

PRICES minimum, maximum

Before we're discussing the things to watch out for, the reasons why to buy an up!.

First, it's a small car with a good finish.

It's a Volkswagen, so it's quality.

The handling is fun. It begs for more hp, which will be solved. There will be a GTI in 2018; that's fun.

I'm looking forward to it now I've driven this car for a few hours.

Finally, the up! seems reliable, but there are things to watch out for.

Many of those you'll notice instantly with the cars from the first series.

This happens more often. The first model years of a new car have childhood diseases.

Let's talk about the transmissions first, especially the ASG.

That's a robotized manual transmission.

It was sold as an automatic transmission. That transmission is...

If you want an automatic transmission, take it for a test drive. It's a strange one.

It doesn't shift gears smoothly.

It's not a sexy transmission. This doesn't have to be a bad thing.

Fine if you can deal with it, but some people thought there was something wrong with it.

It's fine, but it's a transmission with a certain character.

The manual transmissions in the early model years have a problem with going into reverse.

Check if your car does this correctly.

Sometimes you have to try 5-7 times to get it in reverse. That's not nice.

Some cars have a problem with the cooling fan not switching off, even when the car isn't running.

It keeps cooling and drains the battery.

The cooling-fan module has to be replaced to solve the problem.

Cars stop running with dirty camshafts, especially cars used for short distances only.

When it suddenly has to cross a longer distance, it can stall.

This isn't an expensive repair. The sensor can be cleaned, after which you're on your way again.

It can happen when you drive short distances.

Those who drove with 17 inch rims complain about lack of comfort.

That's logical with such big rims under a small car. This makes it bumpy.

That can be explained. If you have a car with that size rims, see if you like it.

Finally, about the powertrain: the timing belt lasts 3 years or 50,000 km (31,000 miles).

Whichever comes first. I think every 3 years is a lot, so I'm telling you.

It's a maintenance thing, but still. I wanted to tell you.

About the interior: people complain about the satnav in the early model years.

The Garmin systems crash and start spinning on the screen.

Drama, so an early model satnav screen can be used for a suction cup for your smartphone.

That's the solution Volkswagen chose.

If you buy an up! now, you get a Volkswagen Connect app.

You install it on your smartphone and use it in a Volkswagen holder on the dashboard.

That's your satnav. Nothing's wrong with that, because smartphones are always up-to-date.

Car satnavs aren't, unfortunately.

There's a thing with the interior ventilation.

There are complaints about moist in the up!. There aren't many vents, so that could explain it.

Cars with A/C solve this quickly, but you may have to defrost the windows on the inside in winter.

That's not nice. People complain about the radio reception in the early model years.

The first months of the first model year have cars suddenly pulling to the left.

That's because the software wasn't great, but an update solved this problem.

This solved the car suddenly turning left.

Lastly, the car we're driving today. It's a fun version in blue.

Unfortunately, you often see gray and black even though it's a fun city car.

It's blue with the Fender sound system. It sounds good.

59 hp, so it's the weakest engine variety, but it's fine for what we did today.

It's for sale at the Pon dealer in Barneveld and it's a little over 10,000 euros.

TRANSPARENT Solar Panels?! - Duration: 2:20.

Hi, this is Kate from MinuteEarth.

Solar panels pretty much only come in one color: dark.

That's because they use dark sheets of silicon crystals to absorb the sun's rays, then turn

them into electrical energy.

And solar panels are becoming so cheap and so efficient that soon, whole cities could

run on sunlight...except that almost all the sun-catching area in cities is on the sides

of buildings, which are usually designed to let light in.

We could plaster solar panels all over the sides of buildings, but that would be SAD

for the people inside.

However, there might be another way: scientists recently invented a solar panel that looks

like a window.

In fact, it is a window, except that it's embedded with a thin layer of tiny silicon

particles called quantum dots that absorb some of the shorter wavelengths of incoming

light, while letting the rest pass through.

The dots then re-emit the energy in longer wavelengths, which bounce along the window

pane, rather than escaping – because of a physics thing called total internal reflection.

And because the quantum dots only absorb shorter wavelengths, those re-emitted waves travel

through the pane without being re-absorbed by other dots.

When they reach the edge, they hit tiny solar cells that convert them into electricity.

Because these solar windows capture some light, they're not 100% transparent, but actually,

neither are normal skyscraper windows – they're usually coated with reflective material to

keep some of the sun's energy out.

But solar windows aren't yet as efficient as typical solar panels, and engineers are

still working out some of the technical kinks, so optimistic estimates put transparent quantum-dot

solar windows at least several years out.

And whenever they do roll out, you might not even notice - because you'll be looking right

through them.

This video was sponsored by the University of Minnesota, where students, faculty and

staff across all fields of study are working to solve the Grand Challenges facing society.

In the department of mechanical engineering, professor Uwe Kortshagen and graduate student

Samantha Hill have made a quantum leap in this area by creating silicon nanoparticles

and embedding them in clear sheets that could power the solar windows of the future.

Thanks, University of Minnesota!

BTS w/ Lizzy Greene, Tia Mowry & More on the Wizard of Quads Set! | NRDD | Nick - Duration: 2:41.

Hey guys, it's Lizzie, and we're

currently behind the scenes on the very special episode.

I play May on the show, of course,

but right now I'm playing the good witch.

So, it all starts with Dawn bumps her head

and wakes up in Oz.

Oh, well, then can you poof?

I'm sorry, I can only ding.

What's up, guys, it's Jade Petty Joan here,

and I'm guessing on "Nicky, Ricky, Dicky, and Dawn".

I play Rose Durkin, who is like, the enemy of Dawn on this show.

And we're competing for the spot Dorothy in their play.

See, I'm Dorothy.

No, I'm Dorthy.

Two Dorthys?

Hey guys, Tia Mowry here.

And welcome to Oz.

So I'm really, really excited to be playing the wicked witch

and check out my costume.

There's so many cool, different layers to it.

They like made it puff up so it's like, really dramatic.

Gabby Douglas is here.

She is absolutely amazing.

I actually saw her at the 2012 Olympic trials.

She's so good.

I don't know how she does what she does,

but she's like an action figure.

Hey guys, I'm Gabby Douglas.

I'm Twisty, the leader of the munchkins,

and we're going to be doing some flips.

It's going to be crazy.

We're passionate.

I'm so excited to be on Nickelodeon, I'm a huge fan

and it's just an amazing opportunity.

The sets are incredible because, as you can see,

it's just so colorful.

This is like, actual Oz.

It looks so real.

It's amazing.

I mean, everything is so colorful.

And it kind of reminds me of me because I

love candy and sweets.

So I get to have Jade on set, which was awesome because we're

really good friends.

And it's kind of hard for us to play rivals.

Like yesterday, we had to stare each other down and look

each other in the eyes and be really mad,

but we couldn't stop laughing.

This was us.

[LAUGHING]

You did the eye twitch.

And she does the lip quiver.

She twitched her eye.

She does this, she goes--

Wait, wait, what's going on?

It's time to break into a song.

It happens a lot around here.

My favorite part of the episode

would definitely have to be the big dance number Liz and I do.

We've probably done this dance-- like, after we finished

filming the whole scene--

probably close to like 50 times.

And cut.

This is definitely, by far, my most

favorite episode of all time.

Can't wait for you guys to see.

Never mind.

I understand.

You may not have got mentally prepared yet

to take up the responsibility.

You still have time.

You will enter your in-laws' place

on the 12th day from today.

I will wait for that day.

May the Goddess be auspicious unto us.

Diya..

What happened, Diya?

Diya, what happened?

Say something.

You threw the keys away..

People were talking ill of you there..

Please forgive me, Mom.

The bunch of keys..

That means, the keys were hot!

Forgive me, Diya.

Please forgive me.

Isha, get some Ghee and Haldi.

Quickly! - All right.

I had requested you so many times.

I had told you so many times that you shouldn't

get overwhelmed by your emotions to take this step.

But you didn't listen to me.

Diya, they are doing all this in front of me.

God knows what they'll do with you

when you are all alone there?

Where is Ratan?

What happened to Ratan?

He is down with fever.

Dad, why didn't you tell me about this?

I was about to send this news to you.

But I could not leave him alone here.

By the way, the doctor has administered an injection

but he is still shivering.

Aunt!

Ratan, nothing will happen to you.

I won't let anything happen to you.

I am with you.

And the medicine that the doctor has prescribed

is magical.

You will be fine in no time.

Aunt!

Aunt!

Aunt!

He is in pain.

Aunt!

Father-in-law, he is not at all fine.

How can we leave him alone in this condition?

His father-in-law is there to look after him.

We are not needed here.

He will be fine!

Aunt!

Ratan!

Tell me.

What do you want?

I will get it for you.

What should I do

in order to make you feel better?

Aunt!

'Please tell me, Ratan.'

'Who loves you the most?'

'My aunt.'

'She gives me a glass of milk.'

'And she does what I ask her to.'

'Most importantly, she narrates new stories to me.'

Stories! You love stories, right?

This one..

Shall I narrate the story of a mermaid?

Aunt!

There was a beautiful mermaid.

She lived in an ocean.

Aunt!

'One who gulps down the entire glass of milk in one go'

'will always be strong and healthy.'

'Aunt! - Come, dear.'

'Aunt. - Yes. - Look, I've grown'

'a moustache now.'

'When will you get a beautiful bride for me?'

'Come. Come here.'

'Ratan, say it softly. If your mom hears you'

'she will scold both of us. - But Aunt'

'why would mom scold us?'

'What problem would she have with my beautiful bride?'

'When sons get married they tend to get won over'

'by their wives and they forget their mothers.'

'Aunt, I can never forget you.'

'I will always be on your side. I promise!'

'Do you mean it? - Certainly I do..'

'Aunt, even you promise me'

'that you will never forget me.'

'I promise.'

Aunt..

Aunt..

Aunt..

'Hello, Ratan? - He is busy right now.'

'He will talk to you later. - Fine. Who are you?'

'I'm Diya.'

Why did you stop me like this?

Ratan is severely ill.

And despite that, he is looking for just you.

Please meet him once.

You're with him, aren't you?

You mean more than his dear ones to him now.

I'm not needed anymore.

Let's go, Jhumki. - But Ratan..

He needs just you.

He wants you.

And I can never take his aunt's place.

Aunt..

Aunt..

Aunt..

Ma'am, honestly speaking

I think he is not able to fall asleep.

If you could recite him a story..

There was a king

who got lost one day.

He kept repeating one question

'Where am I?'

And then, he turned back and went to his fairy.

But he didn't find his fairy anywhere.

A cuckoo told him

that the fairy was just an illusion.

Thank you, Aunt.

All my efforts went in vain.

He still doesn't know

that fairies exist just in stories.

It's only a hallucination, an illusion

which definitely breaks someday.

Fairies don't exist in reality.

It is just a mirage.

May the Goddess be auspicious unto us.

Good bye.

Sister-in-law..

You have got her so scared..

Do you think she'll be able to muster enough courage

to come to her in-laws'?

By the way, she cannot take care of Ratan.

So, even if she comes here, it won't serve any purpose.

Please wake Diya up.

She has slept after much toil.

She is just a 18-year old.

And see what she has made of herself!

She is just a 18-year old.

How will she take care of Ratan and the household chores?

I have spoken to the priest.

The auspicious time for Diya's welcoming

is after 11 days from today.

Just the way father-n-law had wished..

We have to follow the traditions

and welcome her grandly.

On the 12th day from today, the decorated palanquin

will be sent from Mr. Sajjan's place.

Every preparation should be grand.

Dear.

Think of it again.

It's a so-called in-law's place for her

but as we saw, it is nothing better than a morass.

They were just so dominating with Diya!

They did all that in front of us.

God knows how they will behave when we are not there.

No!

I won't send Diya to that place.

How will she be safe

where even Ratan is not?

And how will she protect him there?

You two did what you wanted by getting them married.

Enough now!

I won't take it anymore.

Dear.

What do you think?

Don't I have a heart?

Don't I see what's happening around me?

But we must not forget our customs and traditions.

To heck with all that!

I am a mother

and I won't let all this harm her!

Yes, I agree

that he had saved Diya's life.

And in return

he made her promise to protect Ratan.

But I have had enough of all this now.

God knows what all they'll plan

in the span of these 12 days.

Diya will fall a victim to their conspiracies.

The preparations will be done..

But will the welcoming ceremony take place?

Anyway, Ratan won't be able to stay there for long.

He is not used to staying away from you.

Let's see what Sajjan does now.

Ratan won't be able to stay here.

I don't know about all this!

I will never send Diya to that house

come what may!

Avengers: Infinity War Behind the Scenes of Marvel Cinematic Universe (2018) | CC - Duration: 3:30.

Before creation itself there were six singularities

forged into Infinity Stones

Chris Pratt: This is our first day

Here we are in Pinewood in Atlanta, and it's... It's actually pretty unbelievable. - Robert Downey Jr.: Day one of what promises to be a year of

fun filled lensing. - Tom Holland: I remember actually going to see the first Avengers with one of my best mates from home

and I'd never have dreamed that I'd ever be in one of these movies let alone playing Spider-Man

I feel like I'm on top of the world because this is just mind-blowing

Kevin Feige: What we always try to do at Marvel Studios as we're building a cinematic universe is look at the big picture

How can things relate across movies and across years?

Avengers: Infinity War is the culmination of the entire

Marvel Cinematic Universe as started in May of 2008 with the release of Iron Man 1. And it really is an unprecedented

culmination of a series of films interlinked together which at the time had never been done before and...

For us the important thing is

making it all come together. We know they're gonna face Thanos. We've been setting that up since Avengers 1

How do you do that in a way that is

unexpected, that pits the Avengers against somebody who's more powerful than anyone they faced and yet make them

completely unprepared to face him? Well tear them apart. Which is why we did Civil War before Infinity War. - Anthony Russo: As we were conceiving and

executing Civil War, the end of that movie was very much a setup for what these movies would be. We always had the sense of that

Christopher Markus: Tony is not talking to Steve. The Avengers are basically a name with nobody in it. The world is vulnerable

Joe Russo: Tony senses this greater threat approaching and so he is doing everything in his power to keep the Earth safe

Kevin Feige: Thanos shows us

why he's the biggest the best the baddest villain that we've ever had. And the most frightening villain that the Avengers have ever faced

Joe Russo: The most exciting part is the incredible roster of well developed characters, and it's gonna create a really combustible

exciting massive scale adventure

Kevin Feige: You know that we're onto something within the Studio when we hit upon an idea

or we see a piece of concept art and all of us in the room go...

... this is cool. And in Avengers: Infinity War the Avengers will meet the Guardians of the Galaxy

Joe Russo: Because of what Marvel is, because of what they have done over the last ten years

these next two Avengers films will be an event like no one has ever seen on film before

The Boy Who Baked the perfect interview - Duration: 2:01.

My name is Edd Kimber. I am The Boy Who Bakes, I'm a food writer and a baker

and I love everything to do with the sweet side of food.

Your very first memory of french cuisine ?

The really big memory that sticks out,

that kind of changed my life in a big way, was when I was 18

I was at university I used my student loan to come to Paris with some friends.

We happen to be in Saint-Germain walk past this first shop on rue Bonaparte,

we went in and I found this thing called the macaron I tried it I fell in love

with them and I went home and it became a bit of a passion project to try and

tackle the macaron. So I spent about a year trying to figured out

how to make a macaron.

That was what made me decide I wanted to do baking as a career.

You know, in a roundabout way I actually owe my career to Paris, ten years ago.

What do you think of France, its products and cooking ?

I've always been really in love with French food and I think I love its

tradition, but I also love where it is now and I think actually it's a really

interesting time in French food because you have that old idea that French food

is heavy and a little bit stodgy. But actually I think one of the really fun

things about French food these days is they're taking that idea those classic

recipes and reinterpreting them to bring them up to modern times

with a bit lighter, a bit more interesting,

a little bit more local and I really love that about french food.

Your advice for the first time in Paris ?

The best thing about the city is you can just walk and you will find

something incredible. The city is the most beautiful city in the world.

I think it's the easiest city to walk around and it's just such a nice city so

don't get in a cab don't get in the metro just walk and you will find

something incredible

The bird was identified as a little Grebe (Tachybaptus
