The Reason Why Laziness Is a Sign of Intelligence - Here's What Science Say

Does the couch call out to you?

Do your hobbies include afternoon naps and Netflix marathons?

Do you also consider yourself to be a genius?

A promising and insightful new study confirms what we lazy people have suspected all along.

Lazy individuals are in fact more thoughtful and intelligent than our highly active counterparts.

In this video, I'm going to show you the reason why laziness is a sign of intelligence according

to science.

A study published in the Journal of Health Psychology suggests that individuals who have

a high IQ tend to spend less time engaging in physical activity.

Researchers from the Florida Gulf Coast University gave a large group of students a test designed

to measure their need for cognitive activity.

They used this to identify thirty students who expressed a strong desire to engage in

deep thought, as well as thirty students who preferred to avoid mentally difficult activities.

Then, the researchers gave each test subject a device to wear on their wrist which would

measure their level of physical activity over the next week.

The group who described themselves as "thinkers" were determined to be far less active than

the "non-thinkers" throughout the week.

Oddly, on the weekends, their activity levels grew closer together.

Although the researchers were unable to explain this phenomenon, I have a personal theory.

It is possible that "non-thinkers" engaged in habitual physical activity as a part of

their normal workday, while the "thinkers" did not.

On the weekends, the "non-thinkers" might have taken a break from their regular gym

routine, while the "thinkers" were more inclined to engage in recreational activities

and social outings.

Why Lazy People are More Likely to Succeed in Life

This connection between laziness and intelligence is thought to be a result of the way that

a highly intelligent mind functions.

Smarter people tend to have an increased capacity for internal stimulation and an inclination

to spend more time deep in thought.

While highly active people rely on external stimulation in the form of activity, more

intelligent people just don't need to do this.

Our minds can maintain an adequate level of stimulation from the comfort of our worn-out

armchairs.

This theory is supported by earlier research, which suggested that highly intelligent people

were less prone to boredom.

They also found boring situations to be less unpleasant, and were more able to easily cope

with them through increased internal thought.

Could it be then that "non-thinkers" engage in physical activity as a way to escape the

dullness of their inner world?

As lead researcher Todd McElroy warned, "Ultimately, an important factor that may help more thoughtful

individuals combat their lower average activity levels is awareness.

Awareness of their tendency to be less active, coupled with an awareness of the cost associated

with inactivity, more thoughtful people may then choose to become more active throughout

the day."

Well, that's the reason why laziness is a sign of intelligence according to science.

WELCOMING NEW KIDS at church and school (CHILDREN'S MINISTRY IDEAS) - Duration: 2:49.

Hi there guys, it's Susan here from Wright ideas with Susan

I wanted to tell you what happened in the middle of the year this year

I got eight new students coming into my class the first week back

and that was amazing to have eight new ones... from thailand from

Taiwan from South Africa, many different countries so must be the time of year where their families are moving and

You know I always love to welcome new students into my class and you probably get new students all throughout the year

But it can pose a little problem when it comes to

being able to provide them with materials.

because you tend to order your materials at the beginning of the year and then you get all these new students like

I got Eight... how do you do that? Well a number of years ago

I just found it was just getting too difficult to be able to

To order new materials, to collect money... to wait weeks to get new books for the new students

that I decided I would just do something really simple which classroom teachers do all the time and that is just to use a

Plain little exercise book as a student book... so it just cost ten cents

And I buy a heap of them at the beginning of the year, and I always keep extras in my bag

And so they're always ready to be able to give out whenever I have a new student. I'm able to give them a nametag

I'm able to get them to fill a little sheet

So everything is done and very simple, so when I see that new face in the classroom. I just think great

I have got a book for you and here you go

I'm so glad you're in my class give them a book, get them set up make them feel

That they're welcome

and that really means a lot especially from a

Kid or who comes from other countries who may not speak English very well to feel like,

'oh, this teacher really is welcoming me'

so that is just a little tip that I thought it might be helpful to you it depends on how your

Curriculum is ordered in your situation for teaching but for me this really works so well, and I just thought

I'll tell you guys about it. Now if you want to know more ideas of how I actually use these

Exercise books in a lesson you can check it out in one of my clips. I have a clip there for you and

Basically that's it...

So I hope you liked this idea give it a 'thumbs up' if you do and we'll catch the next one. See you!

The Emoji Movie REVIEW On Rotten Tomatoes - Duration: 2:37.

You knew it was going to happen sooner or later — an aspect of our everyday habits made into a movie. And Sony was the studio that dove in and did it.

"The Emoji Movie" opens this weekend, and critics aren't too happy about it.

As one put it: "This failed attempt to create a story from a texting trend makes the worst comic book adaptation look like Shakespeare."

The animated movie starring T.J. Miller as Gene, the "meh" emoji, who goes on an adventure in a teen's phone, received the dreaded 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The movie's premise of a pair of rogue emojis setting out to find meaning and purpose isn't all that original. It has similar beats as the better-executed Pixar movie "Inside Out," which followed the journey of a girl's emotions.

While on the subject of the movie's deeper meaning, Vulture wrote: "There is a mumbled, shorthand moral about staying true to yourself in all this, but it is drowned out by the wall-to-wall cynicism that is 'The Emoji Movie'

Licensing is always an issue in movies about technology, and though you'll see familiar things from your phone in "The Emoji Movie" — like Candy Crush, Spotify, and Facebook — there's also some shameful highlights of Sony products.

"Vertically integrated product placement is to be expected, though the movie's most egregious plausibility-breaking move is that it takes place on a Sony smartphone," The AV Club wrote.

"These emojis are halfway between Droid-designed purgatory and their vastly more popular Apple variants."

That's right. Sir Patrick Stewart voices the poop emoji. That seems funny on the surface, but all it did was remind reviewers that the emoji exists, and they made sure to include it in their tweets about how much they hated the movie.

ScreenCrush wrote: "Miller might be down to get paid globally for the role of Gene, but he doesn't bring a ton of personality to the role, which is kind of a problem since Gene's whole character is based on the fact

Corden gives a high-energy performance as Hi-5, but his material is thumbs-down emoji. His main running gag is a brutally literal one; his character keeps puking up a candy corn and eating it over and over."

Sure, we weren't expecting much from an emoji movie. But in a world where Pixar makes animated movies that can generate a more visceral feeling from audiences than most live-action dramas

and Legos have created a money-making franchise, it had to be stronger.
