With a rhythm like the waves and the heart beating,
I knit one stitch after the other and one row after the other
at the same time I collect my thoughts and feelings
without the woolen threads, I get lost
but if I can knit one more row and one more, I can find my way home again
through the magic of the threads I take my way through the days and the nights
I live on Gotland, the island of the roses and the fairytales in the Baltic Sea
together with my husband and our children and Watson the cat
Kammebornia is our art project as well as our own kingdom
Kammebornia is about our wish that everyone could live in their own fairytale kingdom in this place we call reality
and it is about our wish that everyone could be the king or the queen in their own life
In the Kammebornia podcast we want to invite you to our world
that is full of thoughts, feelings and discussions
caused through the scent of the coffee and the soft peaceful rhythm of the knitting
Kammebornia podcast is about life in general and knitting in particular
Welcome to Kammebornia podcast, welcome to Kammebornia and Gotland
In the middle of January 2018 we give you the last episode of 2017
Today we are going to talk about what has happened and things that are going to happen in 2018
There are a lot of exciting things going on
and we are also going to show you some nice things of course, welcome!
We have had calm and cosy days together with friends and family
But now Christmas is over and the three wise men have found the stable
But it is actually now that we can start to live the Christmas announcement about light, love and peace
The three wise men followed the star but they also followed their hearts
because they did not go back to Herod but took another way home
We can also listen to our hearts and choose which path we want to take through life
How do we want to treat ourselves and each other?
Christmas also shows us that it is in the small things that we can find true greatness
Each day, I am so happy that I can wake up beside Dennis
I am grateful that we can have coffee together and that we can listen to the waves down by the beach
It is also so nice that we can sit together and knit
I am getting along fine with my Wiola cardigan but I have mostly been busy with my new pattern
It is a mitten that I call "Roses are red, violets are blue" and the pattern will soon be released
But for now it is still a bit of a secret
I have also finished another pair of my sockpattern Catch a Falling Star
I am so happy that you like my socks and that you are knitting so many nice pairs!
Inspired by Maja Karlssons book Traditional Swedish knitting patterns
I have made myself a pair of knee highs
I always wear dresses so it is a good thing with knee highs in the winter to keep warm
Dennis Riddari is almost finished and so is Ellas in grey and blue
A year ago, neither Ella nor Dennis was knitting and now they have accomplished so much
Now we knit together every day, all three of us
Coffee and talking
Hi Pia
Hello! And hello everyone that is watching!
We hope that you also have had a nice Christmas
Wasn't it great?
Yes, really good
but working as we do it is also hard to feel free, or off duty
Yes, as we work with the things we like, everything is a bit mixed
It is hard sometimes to relax or disconnect
But I try not to do things that I do not want to do when I am free, like using the computer and sitting at my desk
The crazy thing is that when I then go back to my desk to do the things I actually like - it is too much because
I have neglected it for a while. So it takes a while to catch up.
But it has been worth it and I have been knitting a lot
Yes, and if we have not answered emails or messages it is because of this
we have been trying to feel leisured
We want to thank you for all your fantastic and warm greetings - thank you!
It warms our heart and we read everything even if we are not being able to answer everyone. But we try to!
I have been crying out of happiness because I feel so touched by your appreciation of what we do
I am touched and happy - thank you!
Thank you so much!
We can not show and tell about everything but we have some special things we want to show right here and now
Yes, that is right, what is the first thing?
The beautiful painting you have there!
It comes from...
It is from @knaylorpaintings
she lives in the US
She is part of a whole family that we have gotten to know through the podcast and Instagram
The oldest member of the family is Gerd, known as @theancientone on Instagram
She emigrated from Sweden to America many years ago
Now she has children and grandchildren and great grandchildren in her new country
Of course Gerd still remembers her old language, Swedish but she has no one to speak Swedish with
We have understood that she enjoys listening to us and also to see images in our podcast from her old country
We have had such lovely letters from Gerd and her family where we can read how much it means for her to
watch Kammebornia podcast. So we are waving to you Gerd!
We are so happy to meet like this and we can only dream about to see each other in the so called reality
Warm thanks for Christmas greetings and the gifts you sent us!
Dennis got this lovely rooster, painted by Karin, Gerds daughter.
This picture is so fantastic. I think she sent it to me because she knows I am fond of chicken, I like it a lot!
I also got one, a smaller one, so adorable, I do not have it here though, it is in my study
I love it, thank you!
You can find @theancientone on Instagram
and also @knaylorpaintings
we will write it here so you can find them
Then we have also got something special from Scotland
That feels so special
Like this Christmas card from Ally and Stephen who also sent us gifts, thank you a thousand times!
It was so fantastic! One day we got a parcel in the mail with gifts and greetings from Ally in Scotland
I got this lovely bag in Scotish wool
and you also got a gift
and the funny thing was that the day before, I had reflected on the fact that Dennis does not have
a toilet bag, maybe I shall give him one...
but it was only a thought and then this came
a toilet bag in Harris tweed, now I start to cry again,
It is so lovely
Yes it is! Wow! So lovely!
You were so happy!
Yes, it is really fantastic!
And I could never have found such a nice one!
So, Ally, thank you!
And now for the most special thing about this... Ally wrote that this was if you should ever leave your
kingdom and go on a travel, then it might come to use
and the same day we got the lovely news that we are selected to be invited to the Edinburgh Yarn Festival
to the Podcaster Lounge
isn't this amazing!?
so now we are going to go to Scotland
And then I am going to need this!
And I need this!
So we are coming! We have no idea how to afford this trip but we just must make it somehow
We hardly know how to afford food on the table every day, so we live day by day and so far it has worked out
So now we have decided that we have to go!
And of course it will be so much fun to meet everybody!
I have another gift and greeting I want to show
it feels so special, it is from Patricia Anne, @p4chen in Instagram, Knitography on Youtube
She lives in Norway but she comes from the US and we have talked about her before
and about the orange scarfs. She lives close to Trondheim in Norway
We are finally going to meet her this year!
Twice that I know of!
You are already starting to cry! Maybe you can wait until you meet?
I am so touched. You must tell.
No, you can do it!
She has sent me a package
I can't speak when I am crying
She sent me such special things
locally produced gifts from her place in Norway
Lovely yarn from her own sheep
This sweet mini Selbu mitten, Patricia likes Selbu mittens, as do I
and inside this is a soap made from local honey
and then
this is a healing balm from the nuns in Trondheim
and then... I also got this pendant, it is so special
Patricia has made this in collaboration with @the_thankful_sparrow
the text comes from one of the concentration camps during the second world war
after the war these words were found on the wall in Auschwitz, one of the prisoners had wrote it there
it goes like this... "I believe in the sun even when it's not shining,
I believe in love even when I feel it not,
I believe in God even when He is silent"
and in my pendant it says "Even when He is silent"
It is such a beautiful reminder of how fragile and beautiful life is and the gift of living
and also terrible sometimes
so, thank you Patricia Anne!
And to all of you watching, we can truly recommend to follow @p4chen and to watch her vlog Knitography on Youtube
She has so much to tell!
She is also going to Edinburgh!
And she lives close to Trondheim and in October we are going there!
We are going to Midtnorsk Strikkefestival, a knitting festival close to Trondheim
We will talk about us and our work and also have some live-podcast on stage
Very exciting! So go and check it out and maybe you can come there!
Yes, please come!
We have been so happy knowing that we are going to meet Patricia in October
And now when we heard about Edinburgh, we found out that we are going to meet there too!
And all the others that are coming!
It will be wonderful!
It must happen!
Yes, of course!
You are knitting on your Riddari?
Yes, I want to finish it now!
You are almost done!
I made some mistakes so I had to go back a couple of rounds
I learn to be patient
I have to learn by my mistakes
Thank you for writing that I am a fantastic knitter, I am not, I just started and I could never
have done this without the guidance from Ella and Pia, but I learn, slowly
You are really good but I also notice that it is a good thing to have help and guidance beside
I find it difficult with the counting
and reading the pattern, but I am learning
but it is difficult
the knitting, when I know what to do is no problem, it works out fine and it is fun to knit
And you can soon wear it!
You can wear it in Edinburgh!
Yes I can! And if we can not afford to fly, we can go on a boat
if I build a boat, I can wear this not to be cold on the trip...
Well, so your Riddari is almost done and so is Ellas
This is Ellas, it has been a secret so far but we show it now when she is not at home
Do not say anything!
We are so proud of her! But she is a bit of a secret.
And of course she can be secret, that is why you do not see much of her in our pictures
but now we are showing her beautiful knitting
she can wear this in Edinburgh, because she is coming along
of course, she helps us a lot with the podcast
She knitted as a child, at the age of 6-8 something
then she had a break and took it up again last winter, now she is 18 years old
it was about a year ago that both Ella and you started to knit
she has now knitted several sweaters and mittens and socks
She made this pair of Shine mittens, my pattern, for a dear friend as a Christmas gift
it is still here because she did not have time to block them before Christmas so she gave them to Moa
but now she is going to block them and give them to her again
so she has admired them and now they will be sent to her in the mail
Then we have had some questions about what the secret gift was that I gave to you...
I talked about how glad I was to have found it in the last episode, maybe you can show it
Yes, I want to show it!
It was so big and I was so curious
it is lovely
it is a salt cellar
it is hard to see at first
it really suits me
this small man
when I found it, I thought that this is just the kind of thing that I could have found at your place when I got to know you
That is right!
It was meant for you
So now you know
What are you going to talk about now?
There are many exciting things to tell
Like the fact that we are doing another year of Kammebornia podcast
12 new episodes for 2018
We are going to try to release one episode each month
We do our best
So there is soon another one!
This is actually the last episode for 2017
And there are exciting things happening this year
like the fact that we are going to Edinburgh, and to the Midtnorsk Strikkefestival
and that we are going to 60 Garner Nord on the Swedish west coast
we can tell more about that in the next episode!
And I am going to Marstrand, also on the Swedish west coast, also in March, to Stickfest i Väst, a knitting festival
I hope to meet many of you!
Marstrand is such a lovely island and it is going to be a whole weekend with wonderful people and knitting
and good food in beautiful surroundings
and a lot of workshops!
I will lead some workshops, in different cat on and bind off methods and in stranded knitting
What are you going to teach?
I am trying to teach others about stranded knitting, cast on and bind off and also about how to
knit in your head phones for example
It will be fun!
Nice!
2018 is going to be fun!
It is going to be a good year!
For everyone, we hope!
We are looking forward to exciting meetings
we have already had the pleasure of getting to know so fantastic people through the social medias
both through the podcast and Instagram but also my blog
There are so many people coming to Gotland
One lovely person that we write a lot with and have had the pleasure to meet once, is... I almost get embarrassed
she has made a hashtag called #kammeborniafangirl
she is so sweet, heaven sent
Catharina Brandow
Thank you Catharina for being a part of our lives!
She is like a ... A patron
a good fairy
like in the fairytales
she is there in the background, cheering for us
I think she is an angel
She also send us Christmas gifts and when we have mail from Catharina, the whole family gathers and say
In our family, we do love Catharina Brandow!
Thank you!
What else...?
I have knitted another pair of Catch a Falling Star
I have three pairs
The green ones are for Ella, it is the smaller size
I get the blue and the brown ones
I recognize them, I have filmed them
I am so glad that you like the pattern!
There was this Christmas episode of Call the midwife this December, that we watched as I was knitting
my socks
I have seen that there are many of you knitting my socks while watching this lovely tv-series
There is a facebook group called Kammebornia knitalong where you are welcome to join
Thank you for sharing pictures and answering each others questions
There are going to be some prizes there at the end of January
What do you think was the best thing in 2017?
That is a difficult question
Especially as there are a lot of dark things that has happened
Yes, we need to learn how to handle the tough things
It can be hard to find the inner strength when bad things are happening
Not getting too anxious or feel too bad
trying to be calm and think that everything is going to be all right
I think my answer is all the fantastic people
it makes us want to go on doing what we are doing
and that we have been mostly healthy
and that we can enjoy each other and Gotland
and our children
I am so happy that we moved here!
Yes! So am I! It took a while.
It was hard to find the way, it is in the middle of the sea
But we found it and now we are here!
What did you think was the best?
The same as you
I am so happy about all the things in life that we do not always think about
Like sitting together
having coffee
talking to each other
knitting together in the evenings
it is so fun for me that Dennis and Ella are knitting together with me
I did not ask you, you just started one day
It felt natural
I guess it was a good thing?
Yes! It is easier for me to understand what you are doing. I mean, you are manic
Earlier I could find it a bit hard sometimes that you were always knitting
Now I understand it better and I can accept it better
It is strange when one is knitting all the time and the other one is not
I think that everyone that is not knitting but living together with a knitter, should try to knit
It is only positive!
That is nice to hear!
Except for injuries that you can get
And when things disappears, you have lost your favorite hat...
It is terrible, I do not have a hat anymore!
Dennis ultimate hat is gone!
I can not find it... so if you find it, you know where it belongs!
You have to knit another one!
Yes, because I liked it so much!
Ilost one of my Shine mittens just before Christmas
That was a bit hard
I do not do that, I am really holding on to my knitted garments but now it happened
so if you find a green and white Shine mitten in Visby, it is most likely Pias
Well, it happens
I still have one. And I have a brown pair.
I still think we are going to find it!
We'll see!
What hides in the snow can come back later
We went for a walk the other day, outside the town wall
and suddenly I saw a girl wearing the Shine mittens, knitted from my pattern
But you did not say anything
It is mostly the other way around, that people do not dare to come and talk to you
You pushed me and whispered, look!
I got embarrassed and happy
It was so lovely to see someone walking around in my mittens
Yes, so nice
You were not prepared, we were going down to the beach to take pictures
No, I didn't make it
We were so focused on our job
I never get used to the joy of seeing garments knitted from my patterns
but I see a lot of pictures on the Internet
this was a different thing, to see an actual person walking around in the reality
that was nice
They were green and white but it was not my lost mitten, it was a different green
I want to show something else
it is a really nice book made by Kamilla Svanlund
It is called My projects (in Swedish)
You create it as you use it, there is room to fill in facts about your knitting projects
I got this as a Christmas gift and I myself gave another copy as a Christmas gift for Ella
It is such a good thing
You can make your notes and put in pictures
There are also lists with knitting words and abbreviations and so on
and it works as a scrapbook for a knitter
pretty much like the project pages on ravelry, only in a book instead
there are squared pages to draw your own charts
I can warmly recommend it
I like to do these things on paper and not only on the computer
I look forward to use this!
Together with Clara Falk, Kamilla Svanlund has made the book Pretty knitted hands, available in English
It is called Vantar för alla årstider in Swedish
It is a gorgeous book for mitten lovers
it is like a modern classic
We have something else that is nice to talk about!
We have a new sponsor, Anna Friberg, also known as @yarnesty on Instagram
She will host a knitting weekend in Dalarna in Sweden in the beginning of February
It will be in Sundborn, where the famous Swedish artists Karin and Carl Larsson lived
This will be a cozy weekend together with nice people
it is the first weekend in February
and there are many coming already but there are room for some more
there will be good food, a lot of knitting time, opportunity to buy yarn and nice surroundings
Anna has been there before so she knows it is a good place to be
and it is such a beautiful place, Dalarna
You can check it out on knitway.se there is a text in English as well
you can also find @yarnesty on Instagram
A nice idea and a good thing - well done by Yarnesty!
I wish we could go there but I guess it is not possible for us
Lucky you that go there!
I am sure it will be lovely!
Isn't it nice to knit together?
Yes, it is, but it is hard sometimes to concentrate
I think it is easier if you are a better knitter than I am
I get stressed by talking when I need to concentrate on my knitting
You always need a "social knitting project"
This is the last episode!
The last 2017 episode
We will continue in 2018
We are already working on the new episodes
We will do somethings in a new way
Just to not bore you with same same
We are going to have a day to plan things
Sometimes we do that, we book a time and place and meet up to plan projects together
Hopefully I am there on time
and then we go through our plans for the year to come
I would like to have more time to do my drawings
You will keep on releasing new patterns
Yes, I have many things waiting to come out
When we have free time, you are knitting and making new patterns,
so in a way, you are working all the time
except when you are sleeping but sometimes you wake up and draw patterns you invented in your sleep
sometimes you wake up in the middle of the night and do your drawings
It happens!
But the big thing is that we are going on tour!
We will tell you more about this in the year to come
It will be fun but unusual to go away, we are mostly at home
it is a matter of economy for us
but maybe there is someone else that wants to book us for an event this year
We can do the podcast live on stage, we can talk about knitting,
and we can have workshops and classes
maybe we can combine new ideas with the trips we are already making
Thank you so much for 2017 and welcome to 2018!
It is so fun to continue!
So we keep on working together!
That is nice!
