[Eng Sub] Análise Jikook - DNA era #2 - Duration: 16:53.

This video is the continuation of the Jikook analysis about DNA era. For those who want, the link of part 1 is on description ^^

Well, as you guys already know, at the end of October JM and JK had a trip to Tokyo together...

I will not go into details about the trip cause I already made a video especially for this (the link will also be on description), but you all know that the importance of this was huge not only for us shippers, but mainly for them two

That's easy to see not only by the videos they both made and posted, but also by the way they continue to quote it directly or indirectly every time they have the opportunity...

For an example:

Shortly after returning, JM decided to answer some questions of fans on Fancafe. He surely received a lot of messages, but he prioritized the ones about the trip from all the others...

Just by MC's laugh, we can see that JK's answer was actually something pretty unusual lol and where do you guys think he learned this word?

Apparently JK really loved this...

2017 was a year full of news for the boys, their career reached its peak until then and they had a lot of new and important experiences, like being awarded by Billboard and debuting in America at the AMAs. But even with a lot of new experiences for the group, JM chose to talk about his trip with JK

He liked it so much that he's already anxious to do it again...

This time JM didn't mention JK directly, but it was something quite suggestive. First because the question was "what would you like to eat this winter?", that is, it has nothing to do with travelling, but even so he chose to talk about this. Also, he used the word "again", which shows he was referring to the trip he had with JK

Besides, the boys also seemed to want to suggest something... Tae insisted in questioning "where and with whom?" as if it was the most important thing

So JM answered "Japan" with a lower and contained voice, which indicates he may have got shy, and ended up not answering with whom…

And well, the fact that he's always referring to their trip as "first" gives us space to believe there will be others, right?

Besides these scenes I just showed, there's another important one that I couldn't include in this video cause Youtube blocked it the two times I tried, but most of you probably already seen...

The scene is from a japanese interview, and JK was asked about his most memorable moment in Japan. He replied that was the trip he had with Jimin

Then he says "we should wake up early next day because we had a lot of things to do, we should sleep early, but this hyung... he played phone until 5 am, we couldn't sleep. So we should've woke up at 9 am but when we woke up was already 12 pm"

First, we know that the boys have been in Japan a lot of times for their Tours, so JK certainly had a lot of answer options... even so, he chose to talk about the trip he had alone with JM, which leaves no doubt about how important this must have been to him, right?

And about what he told later... well, we don't know everything they did there, but we know they visited places, went to Disneyland, watched the fireworks together... he could have mentioned any of these moments, but he chose to mention something as trivial as being late lol

I honestly didn't get what his intention was. Maybe this is related to his difficulty expressing himself using words (something we know he has), or maybe there's some reason why this moment was so memorable, something that he apparently hid from us...

And something very interesting about this scene was the members reaction. What followed JK's answer was an awkward silence, similar to some scene we have already seen before lol

Anyway, even that we don't know what happened there, it seems certain that this trip was enough to reinforce the bond between them. This gets evident not only by the things I just showed, but also by the fact that ever since they came back things became even more intense...

This was just the beginning, and still was enough to show how closer they seemed after they came back <3

Continuing the sequence of events, we had the interviews period that began while they were at LA...

JM answered Rachel McAdams, the actress from The Notebook, the movie that JM said to J-14 Magazine was his favorite

And then, when it came to JK's turn...

Well, I know that sometimes we really forget people's names, but here I think it's pretty clear that it's most likely that he was simply running from the question

First, if he really had forgotten, why he just not said some other name of an attractive person to him? Attractive celebrities definitely are not lacking. In the Kpop Starz Magazine interview in 2014, he had no problem citing Emma Watson as his ideal type...

And second that the boy got really nervous with the question

The ankles firmly crossed, the too straight posture and the interlaced fingers are already a clear signal that he wasn't pretty comfortable...

Besides, he was swinging his body back and forth, which shows his need of trying to dissipate his own tension, and also he seemed to have sighed. Sighs are indicators of anxiety or anguish

Once his turn ended, he stopped swinging and uncrossed his ankles, which shows he relaxed a little

It seems very unlikely that he got nervous like that just because he didn't remember de name of his crush. It makes more sense to think that he didn't want to answer the question and, because of this, he got nervous and chose not saying any name, right?

But why he didn't want to answer?

If it was just because of his shyness, then why he didn't hesitate to quote Emma Watson in 2014? Besides, he also quoted IU in 2016...

This is weird, isn't it?

Later, this same question was repeated in another interview

I think here there's already no way to doubt that he was just running from the question, right? JK really didn't want to answer…

And look who decided to change his answer after all:

First time, JM pointed out Rachel McAdams. He obviously didn't forget this in such a short space of time, so what exactly was the sense in changing his answer, this time saying he had no crush??

Isn't this whole situation extremely suggestive?? JK refusing to answer and JM suddenly changing his own answer after seeing JK running from the question twice?

But take your own conclusions lol

Besides this whole situation, in the first interview we still had another interesting scene...

JK says "people" but points directly to JM

But nothing we didn't already know, right? Lol after the GCF in Tokyo, there's no way to doubt that JM really is a source of inspiration to JK <3

And continuing…

To start, anyone who knows JK knows he's very shy around most of women, which makes RM's answer seems a little weird lol

Probably what happened is that JK said "V", but RM must have understood "me"

And someone seems to not have enjoyed this answer so much...

First it should be noted that JM is usually better than JK at disguising his emotions (when he wants, of course), so in his case it's not always obvious, but if we observe his body language with a little attention, we can see that this really caused some discomfort...

The gesture of running his hand over his eye it's a probable indication that he doesn't like what he sees, it represents an unconscious attempt by the brain to block the vision of a mistake or something that displeases. Leading his hand to his nape, other hand, might means uncertainty, annoyance or embarrassment. Considering the whole context, the second option it's the most likely

Jealous, Park Jimin? Lol

Lastly, the interview with Maxwell:

Ok, so they chose to say that the members don't usually get each other's clothes cause they have different styles... but, really?

As we can see, JM and JK share clothes since 2013, and this habit apparently keeps strong...

So we know that they do use each other's clothes, which makes it a little weird that they didn't mention this, but...

These glances show that they knew very well the real answer lol

Well, and the proximity between them follows strong...

As I said in the beginning of the video, JM and JK seem to have become even closer since they returned from the trip, they now seem to be more comfortable with each other's presence, more attached. So it's really expected that the interactions become more frequent, even in front of cameras

I'm saying this just to clarify that different from what many people have been saying, even Jikook shippers, this increase of interactions doesn't mean fanservice

We know that they do fanservice, but it's at specific moments, so it's possible to differentiate things. Don't confuse the proximity between them with entertainment. If they are showing closer, it's just because they feel comfortable to do this... so let's just enjoy it <3

I thought I could split the DNA era in only two parts, but I was mistaken. There are still the moments of the whole December month, so I will make a third part. I'll try to finish it soon ^^

Thank you very much for watching!

I Don't Believe The Moon Landing Happened - Duration: 5:48.

- Hi, I'm Matt.

And I don't believe we landed on the moon.

(dramatic music)

I am not a conspiracy theorist.

I don't have any real hard opinions on JFK,

I don't necessarily think Bush did 9/11,

I don't believe that the government

is putting chemicals in the sky,

what are the other conspiracy theories?

- Oh, I do kinda think that something happened at Area 51.

I got into reading up a lot about conspiracy theories,

and a lot of the times, it's all baloney.

I go in specifically to debunk them.

And I did so with the moon landing.

So I started to read more stuff about the moon landing,

after I started to debunk certain parts of it,

there were some things that I couldn't explain.

I don't think that we landed on the moon in 1969.

Or, ever.

Motives.

Let's start with the motive

of why the US Government would have faked the moon landing.

Cold war is number one.

We were at it with the Russians,

JFK came out in 1961 and said, you know what,

by the end of the decade we're gonna go to the moon.

And then therefore, we had to do it.

Ask JFK, that's our guy.

And we supposedly beat them.

We didn't.

There were concerns that Russia was gonna build

a missile base on the moon.

Sounds crazy, but it's not.

And that's what people believe.

As that decade progressed,

we are not making the strides that we see Russia making,

they put Yuri Gagarin out into space before we did,

and that was scary.

There's a lot of shit going on here.

We have the Van Allen belt,

lost cosmonauts, Gus Grissom, cross hairs,

we'll get there, competing shadows.

My theory is we didn't really have the technology to do so.

Look at the computers that they were using

in the Mission Control.

They were like 16-bit computers,

they were like TI-83 calculators.

We're in this race, we are running up

against an issue with the Van Allen belt.

(dramatic music)

The Van Allen belts are these radiation belts

that kind of exist here.

It's radiation and that would tear up the human body.

NASA was having a really hard time trying to figure out

how to safely send someone through the Van Allen belts.

Russia knew that we didn't, but couldn't say,

you guys don't know how to get people

through the Van Allen belts,

and we know because we don't either.

(dramatic music)

Russia quietly failing to send people

through the Van Allen belts had killed a number of people.

(dramatic music)

Gus Grissom was one of the original astronauts

on the Apollo mission.

He was originally gonna be the first man on the moon.

There's a conspiracy theory that NASA murdered Gus Grissom.

He was publicly critical of NASA's success

and ability to reach the moon.

They needed him quiet.

Right there, 1967, Gus Grissom died.

They failed Apollo I mission, in which Gus Grissom,

Ed White, and Roger Chaffee died in a fire before launch.

(dramatic music)

There are a lot of discrepancies

based on the footage of the moon landing.

And a lot of those, I don't necessarily believe

are good, hard arguments.

What can't be explained away

is the crosshairs on the photos.

In the images of the NASA moon landing,

these are photos that NASA took and released,

there are moments where the crosshairs

which are fixed to the camera actually lie behind equipment.

The theory is, that the only way that the cross hairs

would be behind a piece of equipment in a photo,

would be if the piece of equipment was super-imposed.

This happens on a couple of occasions in the NASA photos,

and to me, I don't know how you get around it.

(dramatic music)

Say this is the photo of the moon,

we got the rocks in the moon here,

let's say the sun is over here, right,

well we got shadows naturally this way,

but in some occasions, there are shadows competing.

This would suggest another light source over here,

sending the shadow this way.

If you're on the moon, there wouldn't be two light sources.

There would only be the one, the sun.

(dramatic music)

The lack of artifacts.

The easiest way to prove that we've been to the moon

is to show people the things on the moon.

However, everyone insists we don't have telescopes

big enough to see the shit we put on the moon.

The going argument is that to be visible

from our best telescopes, something would have to be

a little bit larger than a small house.

That's nuts.

(dramatic music)

A lot of people suggest that the footage

is just slowed down half-speed.

We shot it in a Hollywood studio, jumped around,

drove a lunar lander around sand,

and then just cut it by half the speed.

You take the actual footage from the moon landing,

you do double speed, it looks almost exactly like

a normal car driving around on a beach.

Really very interesting.

Look into it.

(dramatic music)

A lot of people have recreated the footage.

It is very easy to do.

BuzzFeed has done it.

Did it almost exactly, and perfectly.

I recognize that this looks like

the ramblings of a crazy person.

People look at me like I'm crazy, they're whispering,

I hear it, they go, ooh, he's nuts.

Do your own investigation.

Come up with your own conclusion.

And I think that you might find that that conclusion

leads you to believe the moon landing did not happen.

(dramatic music)

- You're a moother?

- Okay (laughs)

- Are you a moother?

Answer the question.

- I didn't realize you were a moother, he's a moother.

Asteroids, meteors, and many more NASA lies - Duration: 3:54.

Asteroids, meteors, and many more NASA lies

This is all pure conjecture and speculation, so peruse the evidence and points of contention

with an open mind.

We are all well aware of the Michigan meteor last night, if you arent, here ya go; Michigan

Meteor.

Lets take into account this comment on 4chan, which was made roughly 30 hours before

the meteor showed itself 4chan comment says keep your eyes open in Eastern Michigan.

And then we have this post from a throwaway account last night

If you have been under a rock, here is what he is referring to with false missile alerts;

Hawaii, and Japan.

Now lets turn our attention for a moment to military shenanigans.

We all know about the missing $21Trillion from the DoD, yes?

Well if not, here ya go; Metric fuckton of money missing from DoD, and another link for

posterity.

For those who cant wrap their head around it; $21 TRILLION IS A LOT OF MONEY.

Where did it go?

What is it being used for?

Space defense?

Where does Space-X and Zuma fit in?

Another interesting tidbit is that the Army has made it a goal to add 80,000 new troops

in short order source, added to which the EU is in the process of forming itself a military

as well.

Now lets focus on something else; and that is NASAs failure to detect an asteroid

which passed only 75,000 miles away from earth.

Asteroid nearly hits us in November.

Personally, I dont at all buy that they didnt know about this.

It is my opinion they kept it a secret because they had no idea if it would hit or miss.

Here is a case of another very large asteroid which came closer to earth than anyone would

like, This one would have made us dinosaurs

How do yall feel about predictive programming, because if you buy into it then this commercial

is quite interesting.

There is also a show currently running named Salvation, which is about (surprise surprise)

an asteroid barreling towards earth.

And to go further back, Im sure everyone remembers the movies Armageddon and Deep Impact,

as well as The Day After Tomorrow.

Lets circle back to some more meteor sightings and weird things going on, shall we?

This video appears to show an unidentified object destroying a meteor in Russia.

This is from 2013, however if you believe a weapon was used to destroy that meteor,

then it highlights the fact that weaponry exists to destroy interplanetary objects entering

our atmosphere.

Then we have all the mysterious booms around the globe.

Another video.

Booms create confusion amongst scientists

Article on the booms

Im not sure how I personally feel about all of this.

There is a lot to suggest things are not as they seem and that (obviously) we are lied

to on a daily basis.

Asteroids are usually accompanied by large meteor showers.

There could be something heading this way that they have known about for years but arent

telling us.

Now again, I am not predicting anything here.

I just find all of this to be pretty interesting, and I felt the need to share.

I Bought A Stranger's Junk Drawer From Ebay - Duration: 4:49.

- I paid $100 to look at a stranger's junk.

Whoa!

(groaning)

(upbeat music)

- You can buy a junk drawer off of Ebay,

it's just somebody's random junk that they accumulated.

Most people have a junk drawer in their house,

it's a lot of really weird random things.

I bought two different junk drawers off of Ebay,

in case one of them sucks.

This junk drawer was $114,

which is an insane amount to pay.

This one we 65.95.

Can I look in your drawer?

- Oh my god.

- [Joanna] What's up with this giant pencil?

- [Co-Worker] It's a giant novelty pencil.

- [Joanna] How much do you think someone would pay

for the stuff that's in your drawer?

- Probably like five bucks.

- [Joanna] Can I look in your drawer?

Voodoo doll.

- This is a pillow I cross stitched,

it says Satan 666.

- [Joanna] Do you think someone would pay like $114

for what you have in your drawer?

- Oh no, Joanna are you doing that?

- We're gonna see if we can find out

anything interesting about somebody

based on what kind of junk they've accumulated.

Let's open up the slightly less expensive junk drawer.

Ooh, some of this looks like fancy junk.

Whoa, okay this is a wooden box and it's very heavy.

And there's a real cool deer on the cover.

Oh god, I thought it was locked,

and I was gonna feel like an idiot

if I got mailed a locked box that I couldn't open.

There's a lot of junk.

Ooh, okay we have a pipe,

we've got a baggie of coins,

oh my god, I'm so gonna wear this.

This is a bolo tie.

There's a horse on it.

My secret desire to be a cowboy is about to be fulfilled.

Bolo.

Ooh, a pocket knife.

Time for knifing.

What is this?

I can't tell what it's made out of,

but it's getting all over me.

The face is so scary.

Nightmare bear.

I feel like it's looking at me.

It's like kind of broken.

Oh god.

So this lighter says Dad on it.

I've got your dad's lighter.

This is the weirdest coin I have ever seen.

It says Zeus summons the Gods of Olympus.

What?

Is this something that you shoot out of a gun?

If babies drank beer,

I feel like they would drink this baby beer.

A tobacco container,

with a very old-timey man on the front.

This is the last thing that came in this 65.95 box of junk.

I don't know what this is.

I can't tell if this is authentic or not.

But this is an old whiskey bottle,

it says Jack Daniel on it.

Well I feel like this is the junk drawer

of an old-timey grandfather cowboy man.

I guess I have more knives now than I did when I started,

so that's exciting.

I wish I had worn gloved to go through this

because now my hands are super grimey with old-timey grime.

It's not a great feeling.

On to the next junk.

This was the more expensive junk drawer at $114.

So let's see what $114 worth of junk looks like.

(shouts)

Okay this freaked me out

because there's just like a crumpled up body.

This smells so musty.

This is the hunchback of Notre Dame ...

doll.

This was like this in the box

so it just looks like a headless doll.

So there's these two purple mouse things,

and they feel very dirty and old.

They are so musty.

Incense.

Whoa, okay.

This smells bad.

This smells like a perfume counter at a department store,

which to me is not super relaxing.

This is an artist's rendering of a football.

I don't understand what this is.

This is the fanciest dolphin I've ever seen.

This is most representative

of what you find in a junk drawer.

Just cords.

We have a plastic coffin that says RIP on it.

This is a fun toy for children to play with,

I don't know?

This is a bracelet,

that doesn't quite close.

I maybe broke this.

This is a flashlight

that says The Amazing Live Sea Monkeys on it.

So this is a sea monkey themed flashlight.

Ooh, a membership card to the Oasis Casino in Nevada.

I just looked it up,

this casino doesn't exist anymore.

It was demolished in 2013.

Ghost casino membership.

After going through the more expensive junk drawer,

I'm gonna be honest,

I like kind of don't care who this person was,

it really just reminds me that junk is terrible,

one man's junk is another man's junk.

I feel like somebody took this,

and they held it up and they're like,

does this give me joy, absolutely not.

Which is understandable,

this doesn't give me joy either.

I feel happy that these people found a way

to get rid of their junk.

Now all I wanna do is just get all the junk out of my life.

I just super wanna go wash my hands right now.

Do you have a junk drawer Chelsea?

- I did, I just went through it

and then I put it in the trash where it belongs.

It still has junk it it,

but it's my junk.

But should I take this out of the trash and sell it on Ebay?

- [Joanna] Yeah.

Chapter 2_Trait and Factor Theory - Duration: 15:55.

Hello and welcome back! Um again, this is your powerpoint Chapter 2.

And I'm not going to talk a long time but I did walk, um through some of

these slides with you and add a little bit of information.

And of course if you have questions about the chapter, um you can talk about those

in your discussion post or you can post them to the general discussion board on

the class. So trait and factor theory is one of the oldest um, career theories

that's out there. One of the names that you need to know is Frank Parsons,

way back from like 1909. He uh, initiated the concept of vocational guidance.

And that of course morphed into professional counseling over um,

decades and multiple changes. But this, um, is the oldest and one of the

most widely used uh, career development theories. It is deceptively simple.

And one of the things to keep in mind as you read um, this chapter and the

following chapter, these are kind of static theories.

They're not developmental. So we're not really taking a person's age into

consideration. However you can utilize these theories, um, across the lifespan

with different age groups by modifying the psychoeducational piece,

by modifying the amounts and types of information that um, you are sharing

with your students and clients. It'll look very different to talk about um,

occupations and explore uh, careers and what different jobs do with a

kindergartner or first grader than it would with someone who has many years

of experience in the work force.

So, bare that in mind as we go through this.

So there are um, three steps to utilizing the trait and factor theory.

They're outlined in your book. Um, the key really is integration in step 3.

So, step 1, you need to know about yourself. Self-exploration.

Helping the um, client or student do that.

And there is a dialogue, a sample dialogue on page 35 of your textbook,

um, demonstrating step 1 of trait and factor theory.

The second piece takes some work on the part of you, the counselor or the

um, college student personnel professional

And that is you need to know about the world of work. And I'm not saying you

need to know everything about every position out there.

You need to know how to access current, accurate information.

So um, there are a variety of resources for that. Um, they're listed in your text.

And I hope you will take time to google some of those, explore those websites

and be able then to demonstrate and um, teach your clients and students

how to find that information out for themselves. Kind of help them be

empowered to do, um, this information gathering piece.

Classification systems is, this is part of step 2 and this is where I am saying

yanno, go ahead and google check these things out. Um, O*NET, there's an

assignment on that, so I know you'll be familiar with that um, by the end

of the week.

Step 3 like I said is really important. Integrating um, self and work. And that's

an awesome little typo. See I must have really wanted to draw your attention there

So um, your sample dialogue for your step 2 is on page 47 of the text and a sample

dialogue around step 3 is on page 50 of your text.

As you're um, looking at this theory, it's really important that you take um, the

whole person and their context into consideration. So I would encourage you

as you're looking at um, self-assessment pieces and you're looking at the

occupational information, keep an eye open for bias.

For gender bias, for cultural group bias, um.

There's just yanno, a lot of bias out there in the world and as professionals

um, it's our responsibility to be aware of that and to be able to align

with our clients and know where we need to advocate and where um,

certain things may be not as applicable from this theory based on an individuals

um, values.

So, some perspectives on career development.

Sociological and economic perspectives. Um, there is good

information out there that studies organizations and studies um,

the economy. The labor market. Um, and we're gonna look at

some of those.

Inequities in the labor markets. Um, you hear a lot about youth

unemployment and I encourage you to think about that in terms of um,

our local economies, our state economies and also to look um, internationally.

Right. On the news, yanno, we're hearing about unemployment in um, Spain and

youth unemployment rates in Greece and other countries. So um, keep those

things in mind and um, use a...a large lens when you're looking at um, this

information. And also keep an eye open for where discrimination has occurred in

the past um, where it is occurring currently, and um, how that might be

addressed, not just at an individual or work site level, but um, also at a more

uh, systemic level, as well.

These are some of the factors that contribute to inequitable labor markets.

You can read that there. Um, one of the things that is, not directly related but

kind of related that I wanna share about career counseling in general is we've

really shifted over time and if you were to interview someone who is in their

70s, or 60s, or 80s, um, who was out in the world of work and um, they would

have different kinds of stories to tell than if you interviewed someone

whose currently in their 20s or 30s.

So, a long time ago we had this, kind of assembly line job market.

And yanno, you got a job, around here it might have been with Ford or some place

um, and it was very, yanno, assembly line kind of work.

And you came in and you did the job and it was about that exciting, in my opinion.

And then we moved to um, a little bit different shift, which was really the

career ladder. And there were people who could climb up the career ladder if you

just, yanno, started at the bottom. Paid your dues, did your time, um, obtained

the education training you needed, and the work experience you needed.

You were gonna move up with this company.

And you were gonna be able to um, gain status and um, higher salary, and

different job responsibilities by working your way up the career ladder.

For most people, I would say that was especially true for um, males and white

males. But um, yanno, the career ladder um, existed for um, for other folks as

well. Just maybe not the same ladder and not at the same, um level of

advancement. Okay. Um and then we've moved now towards a um,

and in recent history, towards more of a career lattice, as opposed to a

ladder. Right. So, that lattice is that like cross work piece you see in...in

gardening um, would be one use for it. And so people are kind of zig zagging

back and forth. And it's not necessarily an upward trajectory. It's really back and

forth and a lot of career moves where it's along the same level of career.

Um, or along the same stratus of position and a little bit more zig zaggy.

You can certainly move up but there may be times when you're moving side ways or even

moving slightly down, depending upon what's going on in the labor market.

And then most recently, there's um, this trend towards people really needing

having a little bit more of an entrepreneurial spirit and doing a lot of

contract work. Um, that's pretty common. And that's one of the things that um, as

educators and counselors, we need to be aware of and be talking with our students,

especially, yanno, middle school, high school, um, college students about how

might they be successful, um, navigating that sort of career path, where it's not

as clear. And what are some of the benefits of that and what are some of the

challenges inherent in that as well.

So that was our little side trip. Back to the powerpoint.

Again. What are some of the aspects of youth employment.

Um, where do young people get stuck, um, in employment.

And yanno, what are some of the factors that they're having to struggle and push

up against.

Sociological perspectives. What are, um, the actual work demands and then what are

the expectations about work and money and life satisfaction. Right.

Um, what are the advantages of part-time and full-time work.

What's most important to the individual. Do they want to know their paycheck is

gonna be the same every week or every month and they've got benefits or do they

really want the flexibility to be able to dive in to something that's may project

based, work a whole lot of hours and then um, in between contracts take some time

off and do other kinds of things. Um, whether that's related to family or travel

or whatever it might be. Whatever their values are, whatever is important um, to

that individual. So just some questions to think about, um, for yourself and for

addressing with your students and clients.

So effect of the world of work on the individual. Right. The work enviornment

impacts the person. Um, and depending upon how the individual perceives the work

environment. Right. Perception is reality. Um, in this case, yanno the person's

perception of the work environment is going to have uh, a positive or negative

um, or maybe a neutral impact on them. So looking at um, the work environment

and does it fit with this individuals. Some people are gonna love repetitive work

and not having to be able to really think. And some people are going to be bored to

tears with that kind of a position. So it's really important that we look at that

um, fit, or that match in this uh, in this theory.

Okay. Some more little equations. Human capital theory, um, read this section.

Think about that for your um, discussion and keep in mind, right, (coughs) excuse

me, um, that there's an assumption being made that there's equal access and we

we know that's not true. So what uh, adjustments and accommodations do we

need to make um, to avoid this assumption and not apply this assumption, um, to

our clients.

The structure of the labor market.

Women and discrimination in the workplace. Gender bias exists. Socioeconomic status

bias exists. Racial and ethnic cultural biases exist. It's important that we um,

keep these things in mind. There are still um, segregation, gender segregation in

careers. There's still careers that are non-traditional um, for men and women.

Um, you'll find fewer males in nursing for example.

Or if you're in the counseling program, you'll see there are fewer males um, in

the counseling profession. And yanno, the same goes um, for um, females in certain

professions and industries. So um, we need to uh, pay attention to that.

And we need to be aware, what are some of the concerns. Right. If you're working in

a...a high school that's big on a STEM program, or um, in a college where that's

something you're looking at. What's happening to our women who are in

engineering programs, for example. And are they persisting. Are they being

successful. What other support might they need. What are they maybe

experiencing from their peers um, that is discouraging and um, discriminating

against them and not helping them move towards success. And not just their peers

but also uh, people who should be mentors to them. Whether that's um, faculty or

advisors. And yanno, take a look around um, your campuses and your programs and

just see. Okay, how many Latina women are there as uh, faculty administr...uh,

positions. As um, administrators, as directors and assistant directors of

different units, as academic advisors. Right. And do that for a whole host of

um, identities and constellations um, for individuals and just see. Yanno, for

some of the students I'm working with, they don't have potential role models

or um, mentors who look like them or come from a similar environment

or background that may be able to um, identify with um, readily.

So, those are all things we need to keep in mind and not assume our own place

for those we're working with.

Again. There's a lot of information um, out there about discrimination in the

workplace for culturally diverse individuals. Um, there have been some

experiments and studies out there when you're looking at um, basically

identically, uh, identical information um, discrimination does occur. Um, once that

uh, yanno, race or ethnicity is made known um, to the person looking at that.

So when you're um, clients come to you and they're sharing their struggles, know

that even if that's not your experience, um, that is their experience, um, whatever

it is they're sharing. I'm not saying everyone's been discriminated against.

Um, and certainly not in the same ways.

But yanno, what is their experience with that. And just because you haven't

experienced it or haven't witnessed it, um, really try to take an open posture

and a non-defensive stance and explore their experience with them.

Because um, if they uh, feel like they've been targeted, um, in their workplace

then, they've been targeted in their workplace and you need to um, work with

what that means for them and how they might um, yanno, what they need to

consider to be able to either um, adjust to that without it being uh, too

detrimental to them. Um, personal or professional level.

And also um, what might they need to do, or what might we need to do to

help change work environments or help them check out other um, work

environments that might be more supportive um and where they would face um,

individuals will face less discrimination.

So. Keep those things in mind. Listen to your clients and students stories.

Um, and I know I'm repeating myself but don't uh, dismiss it um, just because

it's not similar to your experience. And I'm not saying that you would do those

things, right. We all come from, um, our own perceptions and our own world

views and our own experiences. And we have bias. I have bias. Um, so it's just

uh, bringing your attention to that and being aware of where that exists for you.

Alright! So that's it for um, chapter two.

Enjoy the readings and um, check out some of the occupational and labor market

information. And there will be more of in chapter three because chapter three

is really kind of a continuation of trait and factor theory.
