Hi folks!
Hi there!
Today, we'll present you our TOP 10 Sea trout tipps!
Exactly!
And hopefully, they will be a help you
when fishing for sea trout!
Here we go!
#10: The right clothing
The choice of the clothing always depends on the time of the year!
You should try to avoid sweating in summer,
especially when walking longer distances...
And it's the other way round in the colder seasons.
Always wear enough then to not get too cold!
Just keep in mind to put on several layers when it's colder outside
Better bring too many clothes than too few...
Getting cold is one of the worst things while fishing!
The cold will definitely start creeping into your body
especially when standing in the cold water
Different layers help you prevent this happen too fast!
In addition,
you should keep the difference of breathable
and neoprene waders in mind!
Put on a bit more when wearing the breathable ones
especially when the water gets colder!
You may rue it otherwise...and faster than you like!
Wearing neoprene socks is pretty beneficial in waders
Don't ever underestimate the cold!
Once you`re too cold, your motivation will reduce fairly rapidly as well!
#9: The provisions
this aspect is actually self-evident
but many anglers just don't take it seriously enough!
True!
When fishing actively and when walking,
wading and casting a lot,
you will surely burn a good amount of calories!
And you need to get in some "fuel" for that!
Being hungry affects getting cold as well!
And it's just nice to have a break and sth. to eat in between to get new energy...
Just be aware to bring enough food for your trip!
Drinking enough while being physically active is very important as well!
Because of that...
Bring enough water in summer!
And when it's cold...
a warm tea might be nice!
Or a coffee!
Or a coffee!
#8: The weather conditions
Especially when going flyfishing,
you should know the wind direction and the wind force!
It would be really annoying, if you had to leave a spot
because of heavy wind, right after arriving...
The wind conditions are a pretty comprehensive topic,
so it may be helpful for you,
to check out some details in our fishing trip preparation video
Of course, it's always recommendable to check the weather conditions before going fishing
It's always good to know how the weather will develop during the day
I'm sure you' d better want to avoid heavy hail or rain on your trip
That's for sure!
And you can gather experience which conditions may be beneficial
and keep them in mind
Very recommendable!
#7: Lure-choice
Here you can see typical sea trout lures,
which are surely attracting anglers as well!
Bear in mind that you should aim at
a varying assortment of lures
Sea trouts not only feed on typical prey fish like sand eels, gobies or herrings
but pretty often they hunt a lot smaller prey!
So it's very important to bring also a lot smaller lures
Flyfishermen often use small or medium sized flies anyway
When spin fishing, you can use a sbirolino with a smaller fly for example
Here you can find the video for the makeup of the sbirolino rig!
It's very advisable to bring small spoons, wobblers or even tiny spinners as well!
Those could be pretty good in shallow areas!
Versatility and the readiness to change your tactic can often be worth wile!
Don't forget that!
#6: Lure control
When reeling in your lure,
you should aim at changing the method as well
Don't hesitate reeling in a bit faster!
and don't let your lure sink down too deep...
Sea trouts often move close to the surface
and that's where they hunt as well!
So you better keep your lure into that area!
A spin stop now and then might be an extra attraction for the trout
and when you had a take then, speed up a bit
so the following trout gets attracted even more!
Don't choose too heavy lures
at the bottom, you'll rather find cods or flatties,
but we want sea trouts!
Just orientate towards the water depth!
For shallow areas, a 12 grams spoon for example might be good
or a small sbirolino
and when it's deeper, you can choose 20 or 25 grams as well
but don't fish it too deep then!
Try to figure our what works best for you,
change your lure control from time to time
and finally, you'll find the trouts then!
#5: The spot choice
This aspect is very complex,
but pretty important as well!
Certain spots at the coast
attract sea trouts more than others do
Everyone has heard of the "leopard" bottom structure for example
Exactly!
Deeper stretches close to shore
and so called "bath tubs"
are always interesting as well!
Sure!
And always fish at reefs when you find some!
Seaweed areas and overgrown stones and edges
are often hot spots as well!
And don't forget the edges to deeper water
Sea trouts often lurk at those spots
in search of their prey...
You can figure out all these interesting spots time after time,
but you can also use Google maps to prepare your trip
If you want more information on that,

for finding a good sea trout spot!
#4: Don't spook the fish!
Very important:
Before directly wading in,
you should observe the surface for some time
and start making some casts from shore
There are often trouts in the shallow areas
and be careful with your shadow on sunny days!
You could easily spook the trouts!
Definitely keep that in mind,
'cause it's a typical beginners mistake!
ALWAYS make some careful casts in the shallow areas!
We've already caught heaps of nice fish there!
Not even knee-deep sometimes!
#3: The wading depth
In this negative example,
Arne shows you how to miss some of the sea trouts
which are swimming close to shore
It's often the first 25 meters
which are most interesting for the sea trouts
there's often most of the bottom structure
and thus more trout prey as well
Another negative side effect of wading in too deep is,
that you can't cast that propperly anymore then
We'd recommend wading in knee-deep
or maybe up to the waist
Nevertheless, you sometimes have to go in a bit deeper
to reach more interesting areas with nice structure...
#2: Dusk & dawn bonus
You should definitely plan to fish
at either dawn or dusk
when searching for sea trouts!
And best would be both!
Our experience shows us that
the trouts get a lot more active at dusk and dawn
and often you can literally predict the takes then!
There may be different reasons for that:
Trouts just seem to hunt more actively at those times of the day
Another fact is,
that the light conditions change then
and the theory behind this is
that the trouts need some time to adapt to the changing light
and it loses it's suspiciousness and of course
can't observe the lure that well anymore
It's mostly the hour before dusk and after dawn
which can be really productive
Don't miss that time!
That's when they go crazy!
It does at times!
#1: Trust in what you're doing!
We think that this psychological aspect
is the most important one when fishing for sea trouts!
It's very important that you trust your equipment,
your lures
and all the rest as well!
The sea trout is called "the fish of 1000 casts"
and you often have to be persistent and stick to your strategy
until you can manage to land a fish then!
It's a good help then, to know
that you are on the right way...
You always need a good amount of luck as well
and sometimes there's just no fish at the spot
and then you need to check another area
Just be persistent and trust in your equipment and lures!
It's only a matter of time then
before you catch your first sea trout!
We hope that our tips will help you
to catch your sea trout
And there are surely many other good hints
that could be beneficial!
Exactly!
