Waching daily Dec 17 2018

Good morning everyone. How are you?

Good morning.

Guys, we have a very important mission today.

We will be busy the whole day

because we decided to do our Christmas decorations.

We're gonna be buying our first Christmas tree.

We've never had one before

and it will be a real natural tree.

I never imagined that I was gonna have one, a natural pine tree 🌲

So let's learn how to take care of it because

Wilson was watching videos and the trees burn if you don't take good care of them.

Let's see how that process is so I will take you guys with me.

See you later.

This is the first place to look for a tree.

We're going somewhere else because they only have the normal green tree.

Look.

There they are.

We're looking for one

with like

artificial snow on it.

We're going now to the following location that have those trees and let's see if they are not that expensive.

You guys have no idea how happy I am.

Look at the little trees.

Wilson, is it expensive?

Is $169, that's so expensive, is almost like a fake one.

That one is the biggest.

We need one like this, yes like that one.

Stand next to it so everyone can see the size.

Not bad.

I want one like that one, but look there's more here,

this is full of trees and there is a place

there where they put the snow on the trees.

We're now going to location number 3

because this is what happened.

All those trees with the snow where already sold

so if you like one of the normal green trees

they will put the snow on it,

but it will take the whole day because it has to get dry

and you can pick it up tomorrow, but we

only have today for this because we decided

that today is the day for this video.

But I wanted a white tree.

Well, I believe that the normal green trees are

the one that smell good.

I think that once they put the artificial snow on it, doesn't smell anymore.

But I want a white one so it matches the decoration.

Okay, we'll see.

This is our 3rd location

but for what I'm seeing, let me show you.

Look, they are all just green.

So finally we will be taking a green one because

it has the proper size, I don't want a small one.

Let's see if I can buy something white so

it kinda look

like it has

snow on it.

Like white foam

or white little sticks or whatever. I will figure it out.

Look how beautiful the mountains 🏔

They are all covered in snow already.

Let's see if it fits.

Wilson, I was telling everyone that I will try

to get white decorative items so it will look

like snow, like white.

You can get the white tinsel garland.

Let's see if we're lucky

enough to find the tree items.

There's always enough decorative items.

You better be right. There is so many places that you're always gonna find stuff.

Okay guys, let me show you a little of the shopping part

so let me take you there

and I will see you

guys at home.

We made it back home, I put my pjs on to be comfortable

and Wilson too.

Sasha, there is that kitty.

She's taking things. She took something.

What did she take?

The cat is taking all the items.

Here is all the stuff we bought, is been from one place to the

other the whole day.

There is the tree, now we will decorate it.

So let's get on with it.

I'm thinking that we're gonna have to move the TV stand.

This tree is kinda twisted right?

Be patient, is fine.

Oh my god, is gonna open like whoosh.

Is opening, look, look.

Is alive, is alive.

We believe that the first thing for the tree is water

so Wilson is getting it right now.

I wanted to let you know about a little something,

hold on.

Finally we did the upgrade for

the new iPhone X max, is that the name?

Got it, it has too many names, I don't know why so many.

I love the front camera, great quality.

Much better than the previous iPhone.

Let's get start with the lights.

Does the star has its own light?

Yes, it does.

🎶The star has its own light🎶

What are you laughing at? You.

What did I do for you to laugh? You're singing funny.

We just finished putting the lights.

There is the tree with all the lights, now we're gonna

do a time lapse while we accommodate the rest of the items.

So I don't want you guys to

get bored for all this time.

The lights and the ribbons are set, we

didn't get that many, only a few and is time now for the balls.

I will skip until the balls are on it.

All the balls are on it, here is how it looks.

How did I say this items were called?

The unique items, yes, that's it.

Let's put the everywhere.

We will see how it looks at the end,

we're still missing the door and this part right here.

We put everything on the tree already,

is only missing one detail, the star.

Wilson will do the honor of putting the star of the kings.

That top is kinda long, it doesn't look good.

Well, after a while there is the star on top.

You have no idea how hard it was.

Now is time for this part here,

we put these stickers and

Let's film this

part right here.

Okay, we also decorate the door,

I'm gonna show you right now.

We also have to set the lights

outside on the balcony.

But we didn't get the outdoor stickers,

the ones we have are not good.

Now I'm gonna show you how it all looks

with lights off and also the door.

We you get to my house and knock on the door.

And Wilson opens,

this is what you're gonna see.

Look at this fantastic beautiful place.

That's how my tree looks like.

Is so beautiful.

This decoration right here.

This part is a master piece.

What do you think Wilson? I love it, is beautiful.

This is our first Christmas tree 🎄

Let's bring the lights back.

Eeehhh, electricity is back.

That's how we used to do in Cuba every time electricity comes back.

If the cubans are watching me let me

know in the comments if you remember or if it keeps happening.

Okay, I'm gonna show you everything now, all our work,

the part of the star was really hard.

Look at my wonderful tree.

Decorations here.

Decorations there.

And that part there is the most beautiful ever.

It really looks amazing.

It has lights here, and here,

lights in the little house.

Wilson said is a church, I say is a little house.

I'm missing this.

The cat.

I wish I could hang her there to see if she stay calm because she just doesn't stop.

Aww, she matches the tree.

As you can see we finished our home decoration,

is 11:08pm.

We are super super tired.

We've doing all this since

morning, I hope you like it.

And if you don't like, who cares lol.

We're both dressed in pink.

How beautiful.

Let's say goodbye Shayna.

Well, that's all for today, don't forget to subscribe.

Please share it and leave your comments

and don't forget to watch the last

video from last week.

Don't forget to activate the notifications bell

so YouTube can let you know about my videos

because if you don't the YouTube won't let you know.

If you don't have the YouTube app on your phone, you

won't receive any notifications and you will miss my

Monday videos.

I hope you like it.

This is our first Christmas tree 🎄

We never had one before, I'm so happy.

I'm pretty sure you can tell, now let see if the cat

doesn't destroy the tree.

We love you guys, until next video.

Byyyeeee.

Indus River Valley Part 1 - Duration: 11:33.

Welcome to EdYouToo

The Indus River Valley is located in modern India and Pakistan.

It was settled by nomads, or people that traveled together not living in one place for very long.

When the Harappans came upon the Indus River, they noticed it was very good for farming

and so they were the first to create cities there.

Today, we may think of cities as just a lot of people living in one place.

But inventing this idea is a lot more complicated than that, and so creating a city is a very big deal.

Imagine you're going on a camping trip.

Before you leave, you need to plan it, otherwise things could go very badly for you.

Since you're not camping alone, you'll have help planning the trip, so you'll remember

to bring what you need.

You'll need to bring food, drinking water, someplace to sleep, protection from animals

and... a way to deal with bathroom breaks.

You can bring what you'll need, it's probably heavy, but it's just for a few days.

Now imagine you decide to stay camping out forever, and you've got about 40,000 people

with you.

You're going to need a new plan.

This new city is going to need systems to keep people alive and happy there.

Getting fresh water, growing and storing food and good homes for shelter are going to be important.

There's also other problems people create that will need to be solved and your nose

would let you know that pretty quickly.

Creating systems that get rid of waste and allow people to bathe aren't just for the

sake of smell, they're very important for the health of everyone living in a city.

Diseases spread quickly when people live close together.

Around 3300 BCE, Harappan villages gathered around what would become the cites, the planned

cities of Harappa, Lothal, Mehrgarh and Mohenjo-Daro were built around 2600 BCE.

Let's have a look at Mohenjo-daro, one of the most famous cities in the Indus River

valley, because its structures were very well-preserved.

Mohenjo-daro and other cities had hundreds of wells throughout the city to provide clean water to its people.

Homes were built from clay bricks hardened by fire and were located in the lower city,

arranged in a grid pattern, a system of organizing buildings into "blocks" still used today.

In the lower city was also a granary, a large building used to store grains they farmed

that could feed people year-round.

Public buildings that were used to govern and used everyone in the city were located

in the citadel, and included a great bath that may have even been heated.

One of the most important innovations that allowed the city to grow was a sewage system,

which is necessary for city homes to have bathrooms.

Homes had a bathroom, a room dedicated for bathing and... other things bathrooms are

used for.

People would use a bucket to wash things away (since there was no water running into the

homes) these bathrooms had a slanted floor that would bring all waste to a hole in the

wall that would go into the sewers that were underneath the streets.

A sewage system needs to go to every home, takes away waste from toilets, bathing and

any water that leaves city homes, and it must prevent waste from polluting water used for

drinking and bathing.

Without a sewage system, illnesses from one home would easily infect other homes, often

making almost an entire city sick.

You may be wondering, if cities need this much planning and have all these problems

that need to be solved, why build them?

What were the advantages?

Great coffee shops, restaurants, music, museums and arguing with other cities about who has

the best pizza?

Well, people outside of cities often spent a lot of time on chores necessary for survival.

Getting water alone would often occupy many hours in a day.

When people shared wells and lived near each other, trading for necessities and luxury

items also became easier as more people were closer, so exchanging goods, services and

ideas was more accessible and faster.

Spending less time on survival and more time with each other also allowed people to have

more leisure time.

Evidence of toys, games, arts and hobbies have all been found in Harappan cities.

While noisy neighbors and traffic aren't anyones idea of fun, we have ancient cities like the

Harappans created to thank for making life more culturally enriching and fun.

The Indus River valley's cities were very peaceful.

They had city walls, but those walls wouldn't have been helpful against attacks by other

armies, they appear to have been to protect the city from wild animals.

There are few weapons that have been found in the artifacts of the cities.

Lasting peace is uncommon for civilizations of this time and it's not entirely clear why

it was this way.

There was writing in the Indus River Valley which could tell us more about their society,

but, it is still unable to be deciphered, or understood today.

What we know about the Indus Valley is from relics and cities archaeologists have found

in the region.

What we do know is that the Harappans traded with other groups.

A standard system of weights and measures, the first, was invented in the Indus River

Valley and was important for trade as well as construction and crafts.

Having a standard system helped people to share information on how to make and build

things.

Understanding and agreeing on units of measurement is necessary for trade knowing how much of

something you're getting is important when trying to buy or trade something, or else

things can go very wrong.

The Harappans produced food; cotton and textiles; metal, mineral, gold and gem jewelry; and

pottery and carpentry crafts, all items that other groups wanted for trade.

Trade with Mesopotamia and others to the west helped the Harappans gain more materials for

building, spread their influence and also may have encouraged peace because different

groups trading each others' resources, goods and skills creates interdependence between

cultures.

The city of Lothal to the south was a port city, its location and technology connected

the Indus River and its cites to the Indian Ocean to transport goods for trade.

Lothal had giant buildings to store and move goods for trade, and the city was built in

its location because they were able to build passages that allowed large ships in and out

of the ocean year-round even when tides and weather effected the river's depth and flow.

Artifacts from the Harappans have been found as far as Mesopotamia and Egypt, including

uniform seals with the Harappan script and art to identify the craftspeople that made

goods.

Around 1900 BCE, around a thousand years after the Harappan cities were built, they mysteriously

disappeared.

It is a mystery since historians don't really know and don't agree on the causes of these

cities becoming empty, and since the writings of the Harappans hasn't been deciphered, only

the remains of the city can give us clues.

We do know that during this time, in Mesopotamia the Akkadian empire was falling and it was

a very unstable period, so trade to that region would have stopped.

Since the Harappans were very involved with trade, this caused a great deal of economic

disruption.

Those with jobs dependent on trade: craftspeople, dock workers, sailors, lots of people would

have had difficulty supporting themselves.

As these cities disappeared, the Indo-Aryans were migrating into the Indus River Valley.

The Indo-Aryans were great warriors with weapons technology more advanced than the Harappans.

A few historians believed that the Indo-Aryans went to war with the Harappans, explaining

their abandoned cites, but there isn't evidence in the city sites to suggest that, very few

weapons or violent injuries have been found.

This began the Vedic period in the Indus River Valley.

The Vedic period is also when Hinduism and Buddhism began, and their system of writing

was Vedic Sanskrit, a language that is understood today.

Since there is a lot to say about this period, we are going to split this video into two parts.

So, urban planning, early city sanitation systems, a standardized system of weights

and measures and bathrooms are all innovations we can thank the Harappans for.

There's a lot that is still left to be discovered about this period because we haven't been

able to read what they wrote yet.

Someday, there may be more clues about why these great cities emptied.

Maybe the future historian or archaeologist is sitting in your classroom right now?

We hope you enjoyed this video, see you in Part Two!

Bye for now, thanks for joining us.

How To Change Your Perspective To Change Your Life - Duration: 12:40.

What's up guys Gavin here and in this video I want to share something a little

bit different than usual because recently I've been asking myself a lot

what is it that has allowed me to grow a multi-million dollar business and live

out here in Bali in this beautiful place attract amazing friends in my life

attract amazing relationships with women I keep asking myself what is it and then

beyond that why is it that I keep getting all these testimonials from

people saying that thing you said just totally shift my life and now I'm

growing a six-figure business or I've grown a six-figure business I'm now

living in Bali because of some of the things that I learned I keep asking

myself this question and over this last week I really came to some discoveries

and I believe that if you can understand these things that your life really will

never be the same and you will go down this rabbit hole in this path to freedom

to abundance to seeing the world through more of a 5d lens so this thing that

I've discovered was the power of perspective now the big thing to realize

is that in life people say that something like knowledge is power right

I don't actually believe knowledge is power I believe that perspective is

power and if you could have the right perspective if you can see the world

through the right set of lenses what you will get back will be what you see so

when you change the way you look at things the things you look at change so

I started to ask myself what are some of these perspectives that have allowed me

to grow a multimillion-dollar business that have allowed me to attract these

people that have allowed me to live the life that I want what are some of those

perspectives that allowed me to navigate through this world differently than

before when I was broke when I was overweight when I was depressed had too

much anxiety why was I in those situations and why am I here now so

there's many perspectives and throughout these next bunch of videos I'm going to

start sharing as many of them as I can but today I want to share with you this

one perspective which is you have to start seeing beyond the surface of

things now I'm gonna give you some examples so I have a pen right here

right and I want you to ask yourself when you look at this pen what do you

see most people when they look at this pen they're gonna say I see a pen now

because they just see a pen that's all the value this has to them now for me

when I look at this pen I see the goals and dreams that I can write down on a

piece of paper and manifest into reality I see the book that's gonna change

people's lives I see so much potential that me and this pen have together that

I value it very highly so I put more value into it because of what I see I

can do with it now here's another thing what is this this is my envision your

future book that I got from the a fest event a lot of people will look at this

as a piece of paper or a bunch of paper together and that's it it's a $2.00 book

for me I don't see it that way I see all the affirmations and the goals and the

plans and the dreams and the things that I've written down in this thing I see

all the things that this thing is gonna help me manifest I value it very highly

so I use it like I value it and I put so many different goals and plans and

things in this and I scriptment all this creative energy I put down and

then I turned it into reality now I also see beyond that because Leonardo da

Vinci he had a journal like this and he wrote down all of his amazing things so

many amazing things he wrote down in there that he manifested into reality

and became one of the most famous inventors of all time

Bill Gates bought his journal for 30 million dollars because he valued it so

deeply he valued those ideas because he bought it because he loved

as a source of incredible inspiration so it wasn't just pieces of paper with some

words written down in it it had much more value to him he saw beyond so did

Leonardo da Vinci he saw beyond with this thing what he could do with it so

he created some incredible things now what about something like this this is a

evolutionary psychology this is one of my favorite books it's incredible

now a lot of people again will see a book this is just a book it's like no

this is some of the highest level wisdom to ever exist for humankind ever someone

took their entire life studying everything they could possibly study to

put this thing together finding everything about why human

beings behave the way they do now he spent his entire life doing that and

it's in here but not only that he actually got all of the other people who

have spent their entire lives studying these things and he collected their

knowledge and their wisdom and put it into here not only that every generation

and everything has happened up until this point from Darwin from before

Darwin everything has come to this this is the deepest understanding that we

have about human beings on the planet so do you think I look at this as a piece

of paper or do you think I look at this as thousands hundreds and hundreds of

thousands of hours of people trying to figure this stuff out and then I get to

read this and I get to understand human beings and myself at such a deep level

so because I value that so highly I spend one hundred and sixty dollars on

this book and that is actually nothing most people are scared to spend $20 on

books when I look at a book I look at it says this isn't someone's entire life

they've put into this they put in so much effort to discover these things and

now I just get to read it it's unbelievable now what about something

like this this is a cellphone what do most people

think when they think about a cell phone well some people will be like Oh social

media that's stuff so bad for you oh that phone it's evil blah blah blah or

maybe they'll just look at it as just a phone right when I look at this thing I

see the millions of people that I can reach

I see the businesses that I can create I see all of the things that this is

collapsed into this thing was 60 million dollars in half a building in size 40

years ago 50 years ago this thing was like and it wasn't even half as powerful

of this as this this thing has more communication power than the President

of the United States did 25 years ago this thing is magic it's a piece of

magic so I look at it as magic and I don't just let it control me I use it to

achieve anything that I want in this life before you would have to have all

of your things your stereo system your CD is your this or that you could

actually list off and you could like bullet fill up a football field of all

the things that this thing has collapsed into that we would have had to have each

of these individually big massive things file desks desks file cases all this

stuff that now just is right on your phone with applications when you start

to look at things in your life differently the things that you look at

actually change and when you start to see the world this way you can create

whatever you want because it's how you're seeing the world will come back

to you now let's take this a step further what about human beings you can

look at a human being as just a person you know and you can just see them as

whoever you can see your brother or your sister or your mom your dad as just who

they are or you could see who they can become just like a seed you some people

just see a seed and other people will see the tree and then the forest that it

can become you can start to look at other people and see the greatness

within them you can start to see their strengths gifts and talents and start to

feed those with your language and then they become more and then people want to

be around you when you start to see the world this way you can create anything

that you want because you can create so much of a value for

other human beings but if you just look at things for what they are what you

think they are like most people well you're gonna stay where most people are

and and not really ever get to achieve the things you truly want but again if

you start to look at books like wow this is a body I value this so deeply start

to watch a youtube video this YouTube video I've spent so much time and effort

over the over the years to get to these understandings this isn't just a free

video this comes with all my past all the things that I've screwed up all the

mistakes that I've made all the books hundreds and hundreds of books that I've

read courses all that to start to come to these understandings to come to this

level of wisdom and now I can pass it on to you so instead of you going through

all that you can start at higher levels up and this is why I'm able to have

conversations with people and they're able to tell me their issues and what's

going on in their business and their life and I can see the one or two or

three things that they're missing because of the wisdom I've accumulated

and almost instantly give them shifts that change their life just the other

the other day a friend of mine struggling he only had a couple weeks

left of income and he was really having a hard time and he was having a hard

time getting people to show up for appointments so I said here's the

problem the reason why you're not getting people to show up for

appointments is you're not showing them that you are gonna hold them accountable

because as a coach right he's a great coach he does amazing things but he's

not holding them accountable and they can feel that and what they want is

accountability people anytime someone wants a coach they want to get results

and if they don't feel that person is gonna give them accountability they're

gonna make up excuses of why they don't want to work with them so I said here's

all you have to say this is why people aren't showing up for appointments

because you're not holding them accountable all you have to say next

time is ask them okay perfect it's great we're gonna have this appointment on

Friday or whatever I just want to make sure you're the type of person that's

good with keeping appointments right and then what does that person do oh yeah

I'm great I'm perfect now they're committing to being that identity of the

type of person that's good with keeping appointments and now they feel wow this

person is gonna hold me accountable so what happened well he was getting 1 out

of 6 appointments showing up and now he hasn't had one

miss and it's like 10:00 appointment straight from one perspective change one

shift to understand and he was able to get these appointments and he made

$6,000 last week and he is completely feels amazing and he's riding that

momentum now so guys when you change the way you look at things the things you

look at change so I'll watch you every time you look at something whether it's

a phone whether it's a notebook whether it's a pen I want you to not see what it

is and I want you to see what it can create what it can be I want you to see

in the people around you who they can become I want you to feed that positive

energy and you will start to see everything around you come back to you

in abundance it's a law it's going to happen but you have to change first for

the things that you look at to change so you have to change this way of thinking

your thought patterns and start to see beyond the surface to start to manifest

whatever you want so guys I hope you enjoyed this video like comment and

subscribe leave a comment below if this really resonated with you I'd really

appreciate it hit that Bell notification I'm gonna start sharing all these

different perspectives that are gonna give you these like almost like weapons

that you can go through the world with to like achieve the things you want and

help as many people as you want like all these tools that you can just get

anything it's like actually there and you can help so many people and you can

just you can really manifest your dreams with this stuff guys love you and talk

to you guys in the next video see you soon peace

Algorithm Art: What makes art great? | AmorSciendi - Duration: 10:40.

Cherubs, back in October a work of art sold for close to half a million dollars at a Christie's

auction house.

That's no big deal though, everyone knows works of art are selling for absurd amounts

of money these days and this one wasn't even half a million.

(I say, as though that isn't a crazy amount of money).

What made this particular sale notable is that the piece, a portrait named "Edward

de Belamy", was produced using an algorithm.

This was the first time a work produced by Artificial Intelligence had sold at a major

auction house.

The work was produced by a French collective named "Obvious".

They fed one program 1500 portraits, which made it a portraiture expert of sorts.

Then they had another program attempt to produce an original work that could fool the original

algorithm into thinking the portrait was man-made.

The Bellamy Family was the result.

If you want a more detailed explanation, I'll put a link in the description.

So some would argue that the import work of being an artist; the pulling inspiration from

the past, the synthesis of that inspiration, the conception of original forms, and the

act of creation, the execution, were all outsourced to a creative brain outside of a human artist.

This forces us to ask a few questions.

like how much outsourcing to non-human actors is too much?

I mean, Pierre Fautrel and the Obvious collective did make decisions here.

They chose the original paintings, chose the algorithm, decided to print it out and stamp

it with part of the code used to create it rather than a human signature,

but so much of the creative process was outsourced.

So though we can safely assign it to the ever-shifting definition of ART

(typically: if you try to claim that something can't be art, you end up on the wrong side

of history).

As Sarah Urest Green said in her video about Machine Art: If you think it's art, then it's

art.

Video over.

OK, but let's go one step further and ask, can it be considered great art?

What I mean by that is…

What determines quality in the Art World and where does Edward de Belamy fit into that?

One theory about quality in the Arts is the Institutional theory of art formulated by

George Dickie and following an essay by Arthur Danto.

This theory says that something called "The Art World" determines the quality of a piece.

Essentially, the world of artists, museums, art critics, and auction houses baptize any

work deserving of appreciation by calling it art.

Like, brillo boxes aren't art, but Brillo Boxes by Andy Warhol is art.

One had the blessing of the art world, and the other didn't.

After achieving status as art, the art world then attributes value to a piece.

From this perspective the argument about Edward de Bellemy becomes interesting.

On the one hand, you have the auction house.

Richard Lloyd, The International head of Prints and Multiples at Christie's encouraged Obvious

to put the print up for sale.

He said he sees it as a tipping point and a way to open up the debate regarding AI produced

art.

So at least one institution has given its blessing, and at least one collector thinks

it merits a half a million dollar price tag.

On the other side, there are artists who have been working with AI to produce art for years

who criticize the simplicity of the final product and the process used to create it.

Mario Klingemann, for example, has been involved in similar processes for a couple years, (video

clip of him saying half a million images of which only few are quality).

Klingmann seems to define quality vaguely as "Interesting" and, not surprisingly

his work is certainly more interesting and his process certainly has more artistic agency

and originality than the work by Obvious.

He creates spaces and then searches them, like a photographer, for compositions with

aesthetic value and formations that elicit a response from the viewer.

From this perspective, the Edward de Belamy portrait is similar to a thoughtless photo

taken on a family vacation rather than carefully considered and produced photographs by a professional.

The criticism isn't that art can't be made using AI- technology has always been

used in the creative process- it's that this isn't a particularly innovative or

interesting use of the technology.

So it seems as though the art world is split here-- the auction house has baptized it as

art, but artists accuse the auction house of being two years late to the party and consequently

deficient in determining quality in the space of AI created art.

OKAY, so, If the institutions of the Art World fail to determine quality, then what does?

Does popular opinion outside the art world matter at all?

This question was, perhaps, most famously asked in Paris in 1863.

The French Academy, basically the definition of an institutional art world, had selected

paintings for its annual Salon.

A group of artists appealed the decision and the Parisians protested that popular opinion

should play a role in determining the quality of art.

Napolean III then decided to hold the Solone des Refuses for those who had been rejected

from the official Salone.

Among the classics presented were Whistler's Symphony in White, No. 1: The White Girl and

Manet's "Le Dejeuner sur l'herbe".

The french is really hard I apologize.

I watch a lot of youtube videos to teach me how to pronounce this stuff and then i get

in front of the camera and it's right there... and I...

The number of takes I've done... i can't do it..

I.... will keep trying... but... next time.

Clearly the French Academy, the "Art World", got something wrong there, because Manet's

painting has endured the test of time and is now among the most recognizable paintings

in the world.

So maybe the answer is somewhere between the Institutional Theory of Art and popular consensus.

Perhaps the Art World puts stuff up for debate, but ultimately popular opinion decides.

A professor I had in college once made the claim that students build the canon of great

literature since professors will choose the works they believe will best help the students

be more thoughtful readers and better interpreters of tradition.

In that way, the institutions propose candidates, but ultimately its popular opinion that determines

quality.

If students do not engage with a work, it will ultimately be dropped from the curriculum

and the canon.

So can we claim that if a work endures in the arena of public opinion… if museum attendees

and students at all levels continue to respond to a work positively over time, then it has

quality and that is the difference between art and great art?

In other words, What role does resilience, and this ability to endure time contribute

to the definition of quality?

Let's isolate and address the emotional element of art to examine this question.

Surely if a work of art is able to capture the hopes or fears of a very specific community

at a very specific time and place then it is a great accomplishment, but if a work of

art is able to capture the hopes or fears of multiple generations across time and space,

then that is a better work of art.

The Expressive Theory of Art, backed by heavyweights like Tolstoy and Freud, holds that the purpose

of an artwork is to communicate emotion.

If we address the issue of quality through this lens, then the better the communication

of emotion, the better the artwork.

If a piece can help extend empathy or make people feel less alone across cultures and

generations, then it's better than art that appeals to only a few people….

And we're back to popular consensus conferring quality.

But if I think a work of art is great, then what does it matter if no one else does.

From a certain perspective, personal knowledge and subjectivity is the only thing that matters

in determining quality.

To a very significant extent, If you think it's great art, then it's great art.

And let's not forget the importance of not only of perceiving art, but of creating art.

I made a video about this... you can check it out if you'd like.

Sand Mandalas made by buddhist Monks, or Japanese tea ceremonies that exist in one space and

are grounded in one moment before disappearing do not have a resilient ARTIFACT, but they

do have a resilient PROCESS.

In this way participation helps determine quality.

I think this applies to static works of art as well.

Like participating in the discussions around Duchamp's Fountain is, in itself, participating

in the construction of artistic knowledge even if the original urinal doesn't exist

anymore, the debate does, and you can actively participate in discussions about it.

Though the resilience of an artifact may not be a great measure of quality, the resilience

of a process may have a strong relationship with quality because it allows for a more

subjective definition.

In my opinion, one of the most important functions of art is its ability to rescue the individual

from loneliness and more generally help make life a little more bearable.

To fulfill that purpose great art does not REQUIRE consensus, but popular appeal and

general consensus can help to give us a common set of images, sounds and experiences to discuss

and debate together, thus helping us feel less alone and find meaning in the world around

us.

So let's return to Edward de Belamy.

The piece itself, for me, isn't nearly as engaging as the work of Helena Sarin, Sofia

Crespo, or Anna Ridler, three artists who also work with AI to create their work, but

it's good that this kind of work has received some attention from the capital A Art World.

The sale of that piece inspired me to discover lots of other work in order to make this video.

And that's cool.

I feel like it's also important for me to discuss the role of artistic intention when

determining quality.

In the case of the Belamy family the stated goal of Obvious is to democratize art creation

and allow everyone to have bespoke pieces of art, a luxury traditionally reserved for

the extremely wealthy.

In that way, it allows more people to participate in the act of creation, but it also removes

the ritual from the act of creation, which is so important for art.

To remove the process; the synthesis of experience and the choices made during creation, is to

remove some of the most important elements of art.

In fact, the AI artist quoted earlier, Mario Klingemann, tweated that the process is all

he cares about.

I did like one thing that Gauthier Vernier, a member of Obvious said, though.

He said the work "forces you to try to understand your own creativity and how you should be

able to replicate it".

I'd encourage us all to do that, and to think about what elements of the creative

process are important to maintain and hold sacred as we continue to be offered shortcuts

in every direction.

If we can outsource everything, what parts should we defend our participation in?

If you liked this video, please consider subscribing.

I put out a new video in the middle of every month.

Thank you for watching.

Nueva York en Navidad - Duration: 5:01.

The shops windows are dressed in red and white

the markets take the squares

the ice rinks start

and everywhere you could find places to heat your body with a very hot apple cider

Christmas in New York is full of magic

If it's your first time here

and you look for information tips and tricks

to plan your trips more easily

start now by subscribing and activating the bell to not miss anything

What most dazzles at that time

is how New Yorkers live the pre-Christmas

so I recommend you to be in New York

at least the week before December 25

to see and enjoy that deployment

The proposals that I chose to show you in this video

are the ones that I felt the best they made me live the experience of that Christmas in New York

we've seen in countless movies

Most are free offers

because I think the best part of New York Christmas

you live in its streets

In this neighborhood of Brooklyn

the neighbors decorate their houses and gardens with thousands of colored lights

motorized figures and ornaments

How is a neighborhood initiative

there is no exact date on which all lights are turned on

but in order to get an idea

they are usually lit since the weekend of thanksgiving

until the first days of January

Dyker Heights is in Brooklyn

about 40 minutes from Manhattan by subway

The neighborhood does not have a metro station

but the neighborhoods on their sides do have

On my website I leave the transportation options you have to get there

One of the most popular Christmas attractions in New York City

It is known as Grand Central Holiday Train Show

A miniature train that crosses different New York stages

The model remains exposed between November and February

in the store that the New York Transit Museum

keeps permanently open in the terminal

and has free admission

In general you will see a Christmas decoration in the whole city

but there are some big commercial stores

like Macy`s, Barneys, Bloomingdale's and Lord & Taylor

that create very elaborate decorations in their shopping windows

You can not miss

the great Christmas projection that the Saks store

performs on its facade

and that repeats every few minutes

between 5 and 10 pm

Another attraction of the city at this time

are the Christmas markets

Most open in November

and close the first days of January

Here I leave the best known

but you can find Christmas markets in other districts of the city

Winter Village in Bryant Park

About 150 wooden stores.

are distributed around the great ice rink of Bryant Park

There you can find products of all kinds

Gifts, crafts, Christmas decorations, toys and gastronomy

Grand Central Holidays Fair in Grand Terminal

In the Vanderbilt Hall

the old station waiting room

an elegant market of crafts and decoration is installed

There you can find everything

Works of art, crafts, women's clothing, men and children, toys and decoration items

It is tradition that the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree

turn on accompanied by musical performances

the following Wednesday to Thanksgiving

The tree remains in the square until the beginning of January of the following year

The Bryant Park tree is also lit up with music and skating shows

around the ice rink that is installed in the park

The Christmas Spectacular Radio City Rockettes

it's the characteristic Christmas show in New York

that presents regularly since mid-November

until the first days of January

The protagonists are the Rockettes

a company of dancers who tell a Christmas story

narrated through dance, music and acting

among decorated New Yorkers who are transforming the scene.

The tickets are expensive

but it is possible to obtain some discounts.

The New York City Ballet represents The Nutcracker

every winter during the holiday season at the Lincoln Center

More than 90 dancers perform the work of Tchaikovsky

between sets, ornate costumes and audiovisual effects

around a 12-meter Christmas tree

On December 25th Christmas day it is festive

and people usually celebrate it as a family

Most attractions are open

although they have reduced hours

One of the few attractions that closes this day is the Statue of Liberty

There is no doubt that New York dresses in magic at Christmas

that's why if you want to live the Christmas spirit to the fullest

this is the place

I wish you a happy Christmas

and a new year full of new travel experiences

Do not forget to spread the word and subscribe

so as not to miss everything we are going to share during the next year

See you on the way!

Turnê nos EUA - O INICIO! - ØMNI TOUR - Duration: 21:32.

Hello! Here we are, once again, in Guarulhos, we are flying to the US

for the North American leg of the tour.

We've just used Protect Bag to secure our bags. Pay us!

Yeah, pay us! Protect Bag pay us!

Wrapping everything to protect our bags. We're gathering everyone here...

To distribute weight...

Yes

We've just met here, right?

Yes, I've just arrived, My bags are all set, I don't need to Protect Bag.

Wow!

Check out how heavy my luggage is:

23 KG, precisely! How much is allowed?

23, I'm a very obedient guy. They told me to keep it around that weight, so I did

But I'll convince you to misbehave and help me with mine...

Ah, New York, you again...

It's still the same

Did it change anything?

No, it didn't. It's Always the same.

In your perspective, it's still the same?

Yeah, they have standards, a way to do things that they never change

A "new yorker" way of being

Exactly. Check it out, America!

Yeah, we're here! Now we're going through customs, and next, we're taking the next flight to Atlanta

What are you guys talking about? Tell me

The guy had an accident

Stop it, that's not true, you misunderstood. I said that this guy had an accident,..

And he suffered a brain trauma

And I said he really traumatized

I didn't understand if he was talking about the physical injury or about how he felt after the accident...

But since he was telling me with that smile of his...

Actually, none of this really matters. What matters is that we met our friend Bill Hudson

Who is not understanding anything about this trauma conversation

And you came here to play with Doro, right?

Yes, I came to play with Doro, but most of all I came to meet my friends

THAT's the main reason

I believe him!

That's true, that's true!

Yeah, we even arrived together at the airport

Yes, I came to pick him up. I saw this really good looking guy passing by and I thought "Wow, he's hot!"

That's Bill, it's gotta be him. And I went after him

He was standing by the baggage carousel like this:

I'm trying to work out to be like Marcelo

Come on, you're looking good, so strong

I'm getting there, I just need 10 more years...

But you did some work out, right?

It's because since I last saw you in Brazil, I thought "I've got to be like him"

You said : "That's my goal." Check out that biceps, show me that biceps

I look at mine at home and I think it looks good

No, yours looks good too!

then I look at his and I feel bad

This video is so stupid!

Com a equipe local. Eu gostaria que você organizasse as coisas enquanto montamos o equipamento

"Coloquem o backdrop aqui, o sidedrop ali, etc."

He is taking off his gloves

So, we're heading to Guitar Center?

Yes

The so called Guitar Center

We are all packed here in the car, six people

My ankle is about to fall off

You're getting a massage in your sphincter...

Yes. Actually, I'm feeling something move down that area...

We're going to the Guitar Center, Best Buy

We just had a meeting with the local crew

There are still some things missing, We still need a head for our...

Come on, no sex jokes...

We need a guitar amp...

You guys also need a guitar head amp?

Yeah, we need that

And also a slim cable adapter

But are you going to buy it?

We'll see... let's check out the price

We'll check out the price...

Actually, that's not what we need to buy, we're just buying the cable

Just the cable, right

We need a trolley because the guitar head we bought don't have wheels

Ah, America, you animal...

Dude, are you buying some water bottles?

Water, water, water! It's cheaper with me..

It's cheaper with me...

It's cheaper with me...

Being goofy at Home Depot

What is the price for those? Let's show it

How many bottles, Rafa? 24?

We have 24 bottles, for US$ 2.48

US$ 2.50 , right?

It's something around R$10,00 (Brazilian currency) for a pack of water like this

Just like in Brazil...

We've started the day with some bureocracy, right?

We've woke up really early, right?

Dealing with our social security, because we need that to work here

We're here at the IRS building in Atlanta

Thank God that part is already taken care of

Damn wind...

Now I'm going to buy a mobile chip, to enjoy some internet here

and don't pay the fares from Brazil, because here it's cheaper

Let's do this now.

Felipe, let me ask you something

Do you know this kind of problem, my floyd in unstable, it's bending sometimes up, sometimes down

What could that be? Could it be the springs here? Because...

No. You need to see if the floyd is floating free here... or if it's touching something else

I think it would be better to replace the springs

Why do the look like this? Both should be in the middle

They should not be like this

Here we are at Prog Power, doing soundcheck.

What are we supposed to do now?

Now we're going to look at that colorful nightliner!

That purple one down there?

It's purple!

I'm the one who picked that up, do you have a problem with that?

Sorry, no problem at all

No problem!

This is our nightliner, my friend!

And it's gonna drive by and leave its marks.

We just need to get inside

HEY, DRIVER!

This is your home for the next 40 days.

Yes!

Essa é a nossa casa pelos próximos 40 dias. Por favor, apresente-se para os fãs

Oi, eu sou a Helen. Venderei as suas camisetas!

This is Helen, she will sell our merchandise!

There's Fabio

Carlos Miguel is also arriving...

Charles Michael

And you don't really know his real name?

Actually, he has Charles Miguel in his name, it's his "British name

But people call him Carlos. Carlos Miguel

And here he is, ladies and gentlemen, the one and only, true brazilian. He is pretending to be british

Come on, open the bus!

Open it, open it!

Here is our nightliner, look how nice it is!

There's a lounge here, beds, more beds, a kitchen, a fridge, microwave, a nice bathroom

More beds here, where we will eventually sleep

This is my bed

And here, another lounge, and also more beds

A TV, stereo system, DVD, the works...

It's gotta a wi-fi system, so we're gonna be very confortable during the next 40 days

That's really great!

The show today... it was a good show, right?

I would call it a "concerto".

We've had a good concert, right?

Yes, we did.

And now we are entering that bus, leaving Atlanta and heading to Orlando

Something came to me right now. A variation for concert... a "concerteta".

"Concerteta"?

A "concerteta"

I like it!

Today we're playing the first real gig of the tour, after ProgPower

The first one, for real, headlining...

The festival in one thing, but our tour, in our nightliner, with our crew, is something else

And today we are here, in Orlando, with expectations. We are prepared for this, for a "chuleta"...

A basic warm up

Let's do the "Chuleta Tour 2018"? "Chuletour"

Yes, a "Chuletour" in America. That's something else, right?

Are we going to have a "Chuletour"?

Nós teremos uma "Chuletour"!

And it's baptized: "OMNI Chuletour 2018".

In America. Part of America, right? Can we settle like this?

But Brazil is also part of America, right?

Calm down, calm down...

And Canada too, right?

Let's...

Canada too, right?

Let's play this seriously, ok?

Isn't Canada a part of America too?

Yes, there's also Canada.

Eu bloqueei seu laptop

Do you remember Aaron?

Do you remember Aaron? He is the drummer of Halcyon Way, who toured Europe with us

A banda é muito boa!

O baterista é meio merda, mas...

Mas a banda é boa!

Raposo! Felipe Raposo, what a privilege!

You guys might not know him, but he is a LEGEND

A legend!

Like another legend would say...

I'm most famous for being a cover of Zacarias (brazilian comedy actor)

Everyone says "Dude, you're just like him!"

Do you know who looks like a legend?

Who?

CCM

CCM

The guy wanted to say that some other guy became a legend, and he mispelled the translation

Legenda!

There once was a brazilian magazine...

Who mispelled LEGEND?

The first edition of a brazilian guitar magazine, they wanted to translate "he played half step down"...

and they translated as "half step back"!

"Half step back".

"Half step back"!

Wow, wow!

No, no! It's a harmless insect...Stop it!

STOP!

Done!

Who arrived at the Cheesecale Factory and asked if the chicken was fresh?

"Qual é a idade do frango?"

"Qual a idade do frango?"

Who said that?

The legend!

If the chicken was fresh.

The legend!

"Qual a idade do frango?"

That's typical for CC.

Nobody understood that. Were you also there?

Yes

And he was like: "Por favor, qual a idade..." Then everybody was like

"Damn, qual a idade do frango?". And he was like "I want to know if the chicken is fresh."

Christmas In Brussels, Belgium || Travel With Me Belgium || Brussels Travel Vlog - Duration: 7:03.

So I just got back from Brussels, Belgium and it is Christmas in Brussels already

and it was amazing. So let me walk you through what Christmas time is like

there while everybody is gearing up for the Christmas holiday.

Hey guys. It's Wendy Valencia! Yes I just got back from a whirlwind trip to Brussels Belgium and

I loved it! It was amazing. So I wanted to walk you

through what goes on around the town there in preparation for Christmas. From

what I understand all over Europe they have these amazing little Christmas

markets and Belgium is definitely on the list of cool places to go at Christmas

time because they set up these little wooden chalets all over the downtown

center of the city and you can go from one one. They sell items. They sell

food and they sell the most amazing drink called gluwein which from what I

understand just means "hot wine." But it's like mulled wine and oh my goodness. I

cannot tell you how amazing it is to get this little glass of hot wine when it's

freezing cold outside and to walk around from store to store or little chalet to

chalet checking out what they have to offer. It is amazing and we went

everywhere in Grand Place they have their national Christmas tree and it's

this beautifully lit blue light Christmas tree and it looks so natural

and it's just really really lovely it's completely different than the

National Christmas tree here in the United States which is a Christmas tree

that has like almost like a fence around it and the lights are hungred style on

the fence so it's not a natural shaped Christmas tree this is legit a Christmas

tree with lights on it there's no real order or system to

it but it looks lovely and then we had dinner in that square area there in the

grand place and at pitch I think it's every hour on the hour they have a music

and light show and it is beautiful I'm not gonna play all of it for you but

just so you get an idea of what it is if only I spoke French I would know what

they were saying

and then they also have a ferris wheel and I'll be perfectly honest with you I

have never ever ever been scared of heights in my life but the night we

chose to go on the ferris wheel was so windy and our our little cart was just

swinging and I was looking down and I was like it was really beautiful and so

fortunately for us we got to walk around in the evening on most evenings we

didn't have to work in the evening which was really good because it took me like

three days to get my body shifted over right about the time I got shifted over

to their their time it was time to come home we got to go out in the evening and

we had mussels I'm not a huge fan of mussels though I like all seafood except

mussels I did not realize mussels were like the

national food of Belgium but every single restaurant has mussels it's

really kind of cool but they were actually completely different from

mussels in the United States and they were really wonderful and what was super

interesting to me about the food is they don't cook with any salt and it made me

realize how much salt we have in our food in the United States and I feel

like if I had stayed there for maybe two weeks I could have broken myself of the

salt habit and so that was actually kind of hard to get used to I had the most

amazing caprese salad the cheese was incredible I mean truly truly truly

incredible so but I missed the salt and they don't

put salt on the table they are in most restaurants and then they have waffle

polices cuz you know Belgium it's it's actually a thing I thought it was just

you know that's the kind of waffle I never really considered the fact that it

actually comes from Belgium and so they had these Belgian waffles everywhere and

they make them with fruit and chocolate and sprinkles and whipped cream and they

do not taste like regular waffles here in the United States our Belgian

waffles are not sweet these are sweet they have

like a coating of sugar on them and they're really delicious but it only

allowed myself to have just a little tiny bit of one so it was just a lovely

trip but I will tell you I missed my family terribly I since I have had

milena I don't particularly feel the need to travel like a used to for work I

used to travel all over the United States but anymore I just don't feel

compelled to go anywhere I'm happy to do it if they need me to go somewhere but I

don't volunteer for trips like I used to because I want to be at home with Melina

and I actually had like a cathartic moment while I was sitting on the ferris

wheel I realized that I am really really fortunate to be able to have these

experiences but having to choose between being a mom and my work life is really

difficult but I know that I am showing Melina how to be a strong female and and

to be a leader and to go after what she wants and don't let things stand in your

way and I'm proud of myself for that because sometimes it's really hard to be

a mom and a boss at the same time but I know I'm making the right decision

because she is going to be super strong so I'll see you in the next one see ya

we're out

Steam's Monopoly Is Over | CryMor - Duration: 11:05.

A few months ago, we talked about how there were too many game launchers.

The average player needs to install something like six different launchers to have access

to all the major AAA games released in a year, and it was our belief that most of this came

down to raw revenue splits.

In the past month, a lot has happened in the Game Launcher space, and there's a lot to

break down.

Is it just the revenue split, is it a toxic community, or does technology play a bigger

role than expected?

See, "too many launchers" isn't something only we are talking about.

It's something the entire industry seems to have realized all at once--no one likes

having to install yet another launcher for just a single game, and it's arguable that

all it does is entrench people into the launchers they do have.

I know that, for me, if a game I'm mildly interested in doesn't come out on Steam--well,

I'm just not going to play that game.

I look at it sort of like I do about console exclusives.

It's not on my platform, so it doesn't really exist.

I realize this isn't quite the same, I can always just..download the launcher, so that

hard line-in-the-sand that exists with console exclusives isn't actually there, but I can't

help but feel that way when a new game comes out on one of these other stores.

The game needs to expand past just mild curiosity or medium levels of interest--I have to really

really want to play the game for me to go into that other store's ecosystem.

Of course, more large publishers are leaving Steam, and this is concerning to Valve--as

it should be.

This is probably why Steam now has revenue tiers--down from their 30% to as low as 20%

based on the amount of revenue that game brings in.

Now, if you're a title making $10 million, you'll pay 25%.

Sell over $50 million, and you'll only pay 20%.

This is a move that obviously makes sense to feel attractive to large publishers, encouraging

them to keep their mainstay franchises on the platform.

And for some large publishers, that extra almost 15% of revenue might have been enough

to convince them that they should stay.

Yet, only a few days later, we got an announcement from Epic that they were opening up the Epic

Games Store, which previously existed only to allow downloading of Fortnite and the Unreal

Engine.

More importantly, they'll offer 88% revenue share to anyone, and further they'll even

waive the 5% cost of using the Unreal Engine.

See, if you published an Unreal game on Steam, you would pay Steam that 30% cut, but you'd

also pay Unreal a 5% cut for using the engine.

Suddenly, a smaller developer would see their share of revenue rise from 65% to 88%.

That's a full 35% more revenue from the same sales.

A game like The Solus Project, which sold around 200,000 copies at $19.99, means they

made at most $4 million in revenue.

It was an Unreal Engine game, meaning that of that $4 million, the developer saw $2.6

million.

On the Epic Game Store, they would have seen $3.5 million.

That's almost a million dollars more.

A game like Stardew Valley, which sold around $55 million would have seen almost $10 million

more.

It's a really really high amount of money to just...not get.

Indie developers were already mad when Steam announced their tiers.

They're mad because it, correctly, looks like Steam is only courting the biggest players

in the field.

Their tiers are clearly designed to charge small indie developers more of percentage

for nothing other than being on Steam.

Now, that is still a valuable benefit.

As I said earlier, I am more willing to buy a game I'm uncertain of, or think I might

not play a whole lot, if it's on Steam.

I prefer the refund policy.

I know that if I don't like a game, Valve will give me my money back.

I like Steam Family Sharing.

It allows my mom to play games without having to buy them, knowing she'll only play for

a few hours a month.

I have my list of Steam Friends, and people I've been playing with for years--all on

steam, and all easy to find.

I don't have to try to find someone to play a game with, I just jump into their game.

But, indie developers are right to be angry.

Indie games make up a huge percentage of games released, and so they are bearing the brunt

of this decision.

The games that produce $50 million in revenue are also the games making up 60-90% of the

revenue that Steam brings in, so refusing to extend that 20% tier to all developers

absolutely feels like Valve is purposefully harming these smaller developers.

Why not just drop their cut to 20%?

The only reason I can think of is so that it looks like larger developers are getting

a deal with Steam, since it's unlikely that these indies drive enough revenue to subsidize

the larger production companies.

In this case, it's not that Steam can't afford it, or that it's more fair, it's

very much for optics--how it looks to a larger developer.

If everyone has 20%, Call of Duty isn't getting a deal.

This, of course, was exacerbated by Epic's announcement.

And indie developers are the ones who took notice.

At The Game Awards, we saw announcement after announcement after announcement of medium

sized games that were launching on the Epic Game Store.

Additionally, a week later, we saw some indie titles that were generating buzz on Steam

suddenly pull their support and move to Epic, including games I was looking forward to like

Satisfactory, Rebel Galaxy Outlaw, and Genesis Alpha One.

All of these games have either pulled their product entirely, cancelling their Steam launch,

or have delayed a Steam launch indefinitely.

And, in all cases, it seems that Epic's revenue share is the reason why.

Even further, Epic has opened up all of the cross-platform tools for Epic Game Store developers

for free.

This means cross-platform log-in support on PlayStation, Switch, Xbox, and PC.

It means friends lists across these platforms, DLC and in-game item purchase support, cross-platform

voice communications, parties, matchmaking, cloud saves, achievements, anti-cheat, user-generated

content features, other social features, and more.

It's a really tempting offer for someone who doesn't make $50 million on a game release,

and to be fair it's tempting even to those larger publishers.

This wasn't even the last big hit against Steam, as Discord announced that their slowly

growing games store will only charge 10%, and they also announced their intention to

push that number even lower as they're able to optimize their technology.

And, Discord is huge for indie developers.

It's a huge way for small creators to connect with their audience, and drive higher interaction.

In fact, it's our primary way of talking to viewers of this very YouTube channel, so

I can definitely appreciate it even more.

Adding to that, Discord also has it's own voice chat, and game launching abilities.

In fact, it will even launch games from Steam and the Epic Game Store, in an attempt to

defragment this growing separation amongst game launchers.

It has friends lists, and a news feed.

Epic's value here is that people already use it.

Players use it for Fortnite, and developers are already comfortable with the Store because

they use it to develop games with Unity and the Unreal Engine.

Adding a store to that for other games means offering those hundreds of millions of players

and developers a way to buy things in an ecosystem they already use.

Discord doesn't have Fortnite, but it too is already installed on hundreds of millions

of computers, and even Fortnite uses Discord for it's community.

Offering products to those users is an easy and simple system, and now Valve has competitors

with equal numbers of users on them.

Granted, Discord hasn't announced any huge titles yet, but the most exciting game announcement

from The Game Awards was The Outer Wilds.

And on PC, it's going to be available on the Epic Game Store.

Journey will finally be coming to PC, on the Epic Game Store.

Subnautica is free on the Epic Game Store.

Supergiant, the makers of Pyre, Transistor, and Bastion--their new game Hades is available

on the Epic Game Store.

Steam has long been the only real game in town.

Origin and uPlay never really took a bite from the pie.

Battle.net hurt, losing Call of Duty and not having access to Overwatch was a painful lesson.

But this is the end of the one-store monopoly.

Steam created the digital game market, and it nurtured it, and grew it into a multi-billion

dollar industry to the point where most PC gamers don't buy any physical games, and

those that do aren't surprised to find a Steam Key inside their game case.

Valve hasn't invested in making Steam better, either.

Curation is nearly impossible.

Their algorithm is vague, and there are so many games released every day that it's

a crapshoot which ones will actually succeed.

Review bombing is a regular occurence when a developer upsets the internet, and there

is still no easy way to set up a store that uses Steam as a sales backend but gives that

money to the storefront.

There are still games abusing the system and getting banned every single month, and huge

shifts and arguments about nudity, graphic violence, and questions about what is or is

not appropriate in a game that a consumer purchases.

The fact is that things are going to change, and Steam will either change with them or

continue to see major declines.

Moving CSGO to Free-To-Play in order to bring people into that Steam ecosystem makes a lot

of sense.

I expect Artifact will follow that soon enough as well, and lower player counts in a single

game are not what Valve cares about.

CSGO has had low playercounts many times, and Valve spent a few years fixing things--and

now it's one of the premiere esports in the world, and playernumbers are very healthy.

These games are designed to bring players to the Steam Store, not to necessarily be

successful money makers in their own right--though that doesn't hurt.

Steam will need to make major changes.

I hope they can do that.

I use Steam, and I prefer Steam, but I know that's not something I'll be able to do

forever if they don't.

How to Mix Rap Vocals - Duration: 15:46.

Hey there Geoff Manchester from iZotope.

In this video I want to walk you through

steps to mixing a lead rap vocal

and also how to untangle it and unmask it

from a source that might be getting in

the way of its intelligibility.

In this case our source is an instrumental beat,

a backing track.

So we're gonna do

everything the whole way with Nectar 3.

The track we're using is called

Profound, it's by Kyle Bent.

Check it out.

As a mixing engineer, I think it's important

to take care of - first and foremost -

the housekeeping in a lead vocal.

Before you add saturation, compression, the fun stuff,

You want to make sure that you

take care of sibilants - strongly stressed consonants -

like "chhh" "tssss" that kind of thing

you want to make sure that

you have good tonal balance

across the frequency spectrum of the vocal,

so there's no cluster or buildup

of energy in the low or the high that

might be adding resonant peaks or just

sourness or muddiness.

And you also want to make sure

that you have a nice smooth

consistent level throughout the duration

of the vocal performance so if your

singer gets a bit too energetic,

you want to turn them down

If they get a bit too quiet at the end of a passage

you turn them up.

And then you start adding your coloration

your compression all that stuff.

The reason for this is if you

don't take care of the housekeeping first

and you add stuff that brings up

the body of the vocal so you add

compression, delay, reverb.

You're going to be highlighting all of those problems.

the tonal balance stuff, the level stuff,

the sibilants.

Now luckily vocal assistant in Nectar 3 can take care of

a lot of this stuff for us.

So I'm gonna go there first, to Vocal Assistant.

Make sure that the assistant box is check marked,

press next, and now I'm being asked to go

for a vibe.

So what's the sonic flavor I want for this vocal?

vintage, modern, maybe I'm doing something for a

podcast or YouTube, dialogue would be that choice.

dialog would be that choice.

I'm gonna go from modern and the intensity here is

just how hard we want to push the ballistics and the

processing of Nectar to conform to one of these vibes up here.

I'm gonna go for moderate.

I'll press next and now when I hit the spacebar,

through machine learning and really intelligent DSP,

Nectar 3 we'll listen for those problems I talked about

Sibilants, level, it's gonna listen for tonal balance and

it's also going to get me started with some stuff that helps get this vocal

sounding professional so compression reverb all that stuff so I'm gonna stop

talking and hit the spacebar.

So if I like what I hear I'll press accept

Before I go through what Vocal Assistant

did to get us to a really cool starting

point here, let's do a quick before and after.

now this vocal had nothing on it before

everything that you're gonna hear in the 'after' is a result of Nectar 3 so

here's before

Let's go through what Vocal Assistant did to

take care of the housekeeping and add coloration

coloration and just get us started with this vocal,

The first thing that Vocal Assistant did was

listen to the input and set the auto level mode here -ALM.

And this is great because what it does is it rides your gain for you to make sure

that you have a smooth consistent level throughout the entire performance

so no hand-drawn automation no fader writing none of that it's just gonna set

it right there and make sure that you always hit around minus 8 DB rms which

is a great area loudness wise if you want to add stuff down the road like

compression or saturation.

The other thing that it did was it left the EQ here and

set these nodes to areas of sonic importance

that it heard during the listening pass.

So this is that tonal balance thing I was talking about.

It heard these areas as being important or interesting maybe

there is a little bit of muddiness here at around 182 Hertz.

Or maybe it was a little bit sour here at 5,000 Hertz.

So it placed those nodes there and from

here we can go even further and actually set these nodes to EQ follow and to do

that click on the node go to the heads-up display here

and press frequency.

And when I do this it's basically going to attach itself to one of the

harmonics and follow it no matter where it goes, watch.

So you can see it's following that harmonic wherever it goes.

And this just gives you really transparent reduction of harshness or sourness

wherever Vocal Assistant found it in the spectrum

And this EQ goes up to 24 bands.

You could have theoretically 24 bands of EQ follow

just tracking harmonics.

I'm gonna make the rest of these nodes EQ follow as well just to

make sure that I'm taking care of all the sourness and harshness in this vocal

The next bit of housekeeping happened in a de-esser so

you see that when I click on it here we have the threshold down and the cutoff

here frequency wise is around, right there at 8 K .

So to make sure that we're actually de-essing what we

want to be de-essing, we can actually press this

little ear button and now we can hear

just what the module is hearing.

And this is a great way to check your work.

or in this case check Vocal Assistant's work

because it's set this up here for us

so it sounds really good it's just picking up the esses and the strongly

stressed consonants. I'll uncheck that.

And now the next part after the housekeeping

has been taken care of with the auto level mode with the de-esser and the

first subtractive EQ,

we go to EQ number two which is adding a little bit of air

and kind of tonal brightness to this vocal

The other thing that Vocal Assistant did was

set a compressor down here and we have

this beautiful gain trace going across

and actually Nectar 3 is totally resizable so I can resize it,

so you can really see the gain trace

you know pushing down and just controlling the

dynamic range of this vocal and really

keeping up with Kyle as he spits bars

over this beat.

Here's what's happening.

The uncompressed input signal waveform is

displayed here in dark gray.

This is the signal before compression,

but when the signal is being compressed,

we see gain reduction applied to the output signal

displayed here in light gray.

This is the signal after compression.

And this yellow trace line indicates the gain reduction

being applied by the compressor.

You can use this trace meter to monitor

the response times, attack and release phases,

and gain reduction applied over time.

The last thing that Vocal Assistant did

was set up a reverb for us

and we have this really nice post EQ

which protects some of the input signal

from reverb so that things don't get too drowned out.

So we can actually open up the rest of the spectrum

to reverb or close it. I like it to be pretty closed,

as this just adds a little bit more intelligibility

we don't get too drowned out in the reverb,

and we can also dip over here into the mid-range

where the intelligibility of Kyle's verses

might want to kind of poke through

So we might want to turn the down and protect it from reverb as well

and a pro tip one thing you can do is hit the solo button on any module in

Nectar 3, to bypass all the other ones just so you

can hone in and get a very specific sound in that module.

So when I hit the "S" button,

you're only going to hear the reverb here and not the effect of the

compressor, de-esser, the other EQ,

any of that stuff.

We also have these mix parameters here

that allow you to blend in the amount of

wet against the dry signal so you can go

parallel with any of the modules.

And this goes for all the modules in Nectar 3,

so if we want to add a little bit more reverb,

very easy to do that. Have a listen

I'm gonna keep this solo so you can just hear the reverb

So now the Vocal Assistant has gotten us started

it's time to make the vocal your own.

And one thing I like to do is add saturation

I'm gonna hit the plus sign here under the saturation module

and bring this before the reverb

and I can blend this in.

One of the settings I really like is retro

I can blend this in via the amount slider, like this.

And the orange here in the spectrum

represents where the concentration of

saturation is happening in the spectrum

One of the things you can do is crank it up

on the amount side and then

just blend it in with the mix slider.

So this point let's to zoom out a little bit and have a listen to where this

vocal is sitting in the context of the beat

One thing I might do is just add

a little bit on the output.

I'm gonna bring up the body the totality

of everything that we've done here on this vocal via this slider and to be

extra careful I might add a limiter here just to place a ceiling above which

we're not allowing body of the audio to go.

Let's do one more before and after

before we move to the other part which is

unmasking this vocal from the stereo beat.

So here's before

Now that my vocal is in a really good spot I want to unmask it and help it pop even

further in the context of this mix.

And to do that I'm going to use some brand

new technology that we have at iZotope called

Inter Plugin Communication

to create a pocket, a space for the vocal,

so that it can be more intelligible.

When something is masking something else

in a mix it means they're sharing space in

the frequency spectrum.

And that collision might result in one element

being less intelligible or less audible

than it would be if they weren't masking each other.

so to do that I'm going to go to my instrumental beat and I'm gonna

put an instance of relay on this beat here.

I should mention that you can do

the same thing with another instance of Nectar 3 or Neutron 2.

And I'm going to go over here,

and you can see that relay is basically

a channel ops plugin.

we have gain, panning, width,

we have even more stuff down here,

channel swap, phase, mono,

but what this really is is a way for my instrumental beat to talk

Talk to Nectar 3 to get that unmasking done

I'm going to close this. go back to my lead vocal,,

open Nectar 3, and go back to Vocal Assistant.

I don't want to do another passive assist,

so I'll uncheck this but I do want to Unmask,

and look what it says.

unmask is gonna carve space for the vocal by comparing it to another audio track

in correcting frequency masking. So I press next.

now it's asking me what is the source of the masking, what's causing the problem

in our case it's the stereo beat and because we have a relay on the beat it

shows up right here

thanks to inter plugin-communication.

these two plugins are

talking to each other so I'll press this and now I'm going to press next and when

I play audio it's going to listen to the two tracks and put a behind-the-scenes

EQ on the beat to carve a pocket so that the vocal is more intelligible and audible

Have a listen

And now it's done. So I'll press accept

and you'll see that if we go back

to our beats and our beats relay,

we have this little icon here this blue icon

it's saying it's unmasking the lead vocal from the beat.

What this icon represents is a behind-the-scenes EQ,

a static EQ that just pushes down and

suppresses energy on the beat where the vocal is coming through so the two

aren't clashing and masking each other

Let's do a big before and after.

Before Unmasking and before Vocal Assistant

got us started getting a super professional polished

sound for this lead vocal.

And there we go.

If there's any other genres that you want to see mixed or workflows you want

to see addressed let us know in the comments we really appreciate it

Thanks for watching

get ready with me for a MODEL CASTING - Duration: 6:50.

Hi Vanderfits and welcome to another glow-up transformation video

Today we're going to do a get ready with me

for a casting and the first thing on my list whenever

I have castings is have breakfast because I can't leave the door without

breakfast I would just faint I don't feel well the whole day and

especially on a casting day it's of extreme importance because you don't know how

long the casting will take

Sometimes it takes 15 minutes, sometimes it takes an hour

because of the long waiting time and it's very likely that the location

where the casting is will not provide any food and besides that sometimes all

of a sudden another casting pops up and you have to go somewhere else so

breakfast is key and I like to eat my Alpro soya which have seen in my diet

related videos, my seven-day model diet plan, (that's such a mouthful) but in those

videos you probably have seen, what I like to eat for breakfast so this is

again Alpro soya blueberry with some coconut flakes and some real blueberries

because why not right?

I once read an article and it said that every single

blueberry that you eat makes you live one second longer and I don't know if I

have to believe that but I wish

And then after breakfast I really want to go to

the hairdressers because this is not looking too well so let's go there right now

So this is what it looks like I'm really happy with my hair it's very very

similar to what it was before, just the ends are cut because as a model you

don't want to change up your hairstyle too much since the clients will book you

or ask you to go to a casting based on your portfolio and on your portfolio you

will have one hair style so it's a little bit confusing if the next day you have a

completely different color and style so I always try to stay within this length

and this hair style, it's a little bit curly just natural and that's also very

important to show the natural texture of your hair on a casting

And then of course for most castings a very simple makeup look is required

So we're first going to put on some Nuxe reve de miel lip balm and this

will keep my lips hydrated in this horrible winter weather in the Netherlands

Well... honestly it's not that bad, the sun is even shining today but it is cold so

we're going to put on some moisture on the lips and then here I have a small

little pimple so we're going to get rid of it hopefully with some of this Alya mask

This is a face mask that I've

showed you guys before, but I'm not going to put it all over my face because it's

very drying, it's Australian pink clay so I just apply it on the area of the

pimple and then I let it rest while doing the rest of my skincare and makeup

After the mask, I'm going in with my Jade roller to smooth my skin and to waken it

up, because this is a super cooling effect and this is my favorite tool when

it comes to skincare, so for the rest of my skin I'm going in with this Caudalie

creme sorbet and I'm doing everything at the same time because often as a model

you are in a rush, so you don't have time to actually wait on your mask and just

relax and sit down with a cup of tea ,so we're going to do everything at the same time

but this is very effective, so if you do have a pimple just put a drying

mud mask on that specific area so the face is looking fresh with that Caudalie

product and now we're going in with my favorite Clinique eye cream, obviously

Then we're going to do the eyebrows so I use this NYX professional makeup eye brow pencil

In which color is it? Black noir! It's not really black, but it works

It does its job, then some of this brown Kiko mascara, some concealer for the

under eyes and then we can remove our pimple cream with some water and tada

Well it's still there a little bit, but it's more dried out in my opinion

Then I go in with my bronzer, actually don't want to put anything on that blemish and

a little pimple right here because it's pretty much dried out right now and

I feel like if I put concealer on it then it doesn't really have time to heal so

probably right before I go into that casting I'll put a little dot of

concealer on there but for now I just leave it like that

That bronzer was from Kiko and now I'm going in with my Clinique blush

Tapping it off

And just a little bit on the apples of the cheek for a more lively look then

we're going to use this lip pencil from NARS in the color skin-tight and then

last but not least, I'm going to put some hand cream on my hands, because like I

said it's winter here in the Netherlands, so you want to make sure that your hands

look soft, so this is actually a hand cream by Stradivarius and it's in the

scent pretty poppy and then that was it

This is my very natural everyday makeup look, my natural hair and then just a black

t-shirt with some black jeans because during a casting you have to look very

just elegant, but still very simple if it would be a little bit warmer then I

would put on a skirt, so you can actually see my legs because it's really

important to show off your legs and make them look long with a little bit of a heel

For today I will put on these boots, these are from Calvin Klein and they're

so beautiful in my opinion and they definitely make me appear so much longer

which is exactly what I want and then we are ready to go

I hope you guys enjoyed it

Leave me down in the comments below what kind of videos you would like to

see for me and then I hope to see you tomorrow in a next one

bye bye lots of love
