Hello, I'm Rogan and welcome to Vlogmas day 15 and Regional Signs 2.

Today will be Christmas themed. Before we go into that, I want to mention this book.

Signs Across America. It has SO many different signs.

However. I have a few issues with this.

First, this was published in 1984. And it had a third printing in 1998.

That's 20 years. It hasn't been updated since.

So... I think it's safe to say some signs in this are outdated.

Second, looking through it, I'm seeing many of the signs are similar.

So similar to the point where I wouldn't call it a regional sign, more of

a personal difference in how that person signs.

Third, not all states are represented in this. Only 25 states are. And only 38 people were contributing to this.

The book does say that the contributors were looked at,

and they felt that these people were a good representation of the deaf community.

Thumbs up. But... Often, it's only two people from each state. So I feel...

That's not nearly enough to really have a good sample size of what is actually a regional sign and

what is just that person's sign. So keep that in mind as I use this for reference.

Now to the signs. Like I mentioned in my first video, up here, I said that I would have any additions to the

regional signs I told you in the previous video. So that's what I'm doing now.

Garbage. In Michigan, they sign:

[garbage: x-chin]

Hospital. In Alabama, they sign:

[hospital: h-improve]

Pretend. In Canada, they sign:

[pretend: fake-cheek]

That's all of the additions. Now to the signs for today.

I will not do every possible variation of each word in this video.

Christmas. The most common sign for this word:

[Christmas: C-arc]

According to the book, Hawaii and Massachusetts sign:

[Christmas: beard-(shape of a tree)]

Let me know if that's accurate.

The book says that in Maine, their sign is:

[Christmas: sticking-on-hip]

Why? Like the pine sap sticking to you from all of the trees in Maine.

North Dakota and South Carolina sign:

[Christmas: Santa]

The book says this is a Washington regional sign, but I've seen other people sign it in different areas now.

So... Probably not accurate anymore.

[Christmas: C-twist]

I personally sign without the arm, just Christmas.

That's the most common I've seen, [C-arc] or [C-twist].

Next word: Santa Claus. The most common I've seen is:

[Santa Claus: poofy-beard]

Alabama and Texas:

[Santa Claus: stroking-beard]

Arkansas:

[Santa Claus: beard-(sack hauling)]

You might see Santa Claus signed these ways:

Next word: snow. The most common sign:

[snow: (flakes falling)]

I noticed in this book, I think this may be a feature of language.

Because some of these, I haven't seen that in a long time.

Mostly older people sign this, not our generation. My generation, I mean, usually signs [flakesfalling].

But more often, you will see older people signing [snow: shoulder-falling] or [snow: white-falling].

Again. [shoulder-falling]

Or [white-falling].

Interesting. The book says the New York sign is [snow: shoulder-clap].

I never saw that sign when I was in New York, so... May be an outdated sign.

Next word: cookie. The most common sign:

[cookie: C-cut]

Arkansas: [cookie: C-rub]

Let me know if that's accurate.

South Carolina: [cookie: sugar-Cf]

Hawaii, Maine, Massachusetts: [cookie: C-circle]

Final word for today: chocolate. The most common sign I've seen is:

[chocolate: C-circlemotion]

A few states will sign this:

[chocolate: C-shake]

Louisiana's sign reminds me of the LSF sign for chocolate if I remember that correctly. Louisiana's sign:

[chocolate: knife-shaveoff]

The LSF sign:

[chocolat: grating]

Pennsylvania:

[chocolate: L-cheek]

Illinois:

[chocolate: cake]

That's all of the words for today. A lot of these signs were from that book,

Welcome back to the channel I'm excited about a product that we just

got yesterday it's the Tesvor robotic vacuum cleaner now we do have a robo

vac but this one works with Alexa

so we unbox this yesterday and charged it and it should be fully charged right

now and it does come with a remote control there's the remote control and

that takes two batteries and I think it was triple-a batteries

yeah and so I had to put those in it does not come with the batteries

I think I'm primarily going to use the Alexa voice control to turn it on and

off but the remote control has other features on it there is a there actually

are two user manuals one for the vacuum and one that's geared towards the Wi-Fi

connection so that has everything you need to know you can use this you can

set a schedule for this and um pretty standard as far as the robotic vacuums

I've actually had have had two previous they have one now and had another one

that I have given away there it comes with four brushes little brushes two of

them are on the bottom lift this up and show you

so there you see the two little brushes that help get debris dust whatever for

along the baseboards and so on and they're two extras there is a filter

there's a now already actually there's it's a two-part filter

and it comes with a neck strap and it comes with a brush a cleaning brush and

when we're all done with the cleaning I'll show you how the dust bin comes out

and how its anteed so everything you need to know to get the test for robotic

vacuum set up on your app my phone app and with Alexa is in there scan the code

and so on yeah so there are two according to the manual there are two

commands that Alexa will use to control the robot and that is to turn it on and

to turn it off and with the remote control you can do a variety of other

functions Alexa turn Robo vac on

conversation and watch television when it's on not as noisy as a upright

changed angles here as the robot keeps going on camera

in there that detects obstacles and goes the other way now you can use the remote

control to direct the vacuum maybe I should try that

okay see how well I can control this with a round

I'm no better with this than I am with her dog control vehicles drones

but you don't have to manipulate it at all you just let it go

forward yes okay should be right I think I'm getting the hang of it

and then when it's done cleaning or when the battery's low returns to the home

base charging plate

okay I think we got all the crackers up and oatmeal Alexa turn Robo back off

so when you say turn Robo vac or robot or whatever name you give the vacuum off

it will send it back to the home station to the home plate

okay so we're going to empty the dustbin now and you just press pull it out that

shows you what we collected and a few minutes

I know it looks to be the oatmeal and crackers so we get a lot of pet hair

here so I'm sure that most of the time it's gonna pick up pet hair as well so

that's a look at our first experience using the Tesvor robotic vacuum works

pretty well I sure wish they would make robotic vacuums that worked with thicker

carpets but I haven't seen any yet that do I do like the fact that it works with

This is my second time in Madrid.

A month ago I came to Spain and first thing I stepped on was Madrid

and I was surprised by the lack of personality of this city.

because I think Madrid is a great city to live in

but somehow I couldn't understand

what kind of city is Madrid.

There are certain adjectives that I ended up with the first time I came

and funny enough the places that I like the most about Madrid

I like them because they remind me of other cities.

Probably this bridge is my favourite in Madrid

because it looks a lot like the Xallitic bridge in Xalapa

my favourite city in Mexico.

I came back because this time I'm searching

for Madrid's true personality.

This is another day in Madrid.

Are these picturesque streets Madrid's personality?

Let's do an exercise so I can prove I'm not being rude.

If you say: name the different personalities that Barcelona has.

I'd say: Barcelona is bilingual, multicultural, Barcelona is...

gastronomically delicious, Barcelona has its own identity

pretty Catalan, Barcelona is complex, Barcelona is multifaceted

Barcelona is lots of kids, Barcelona is beach, Barceloneta, do I continue?

And on the contrary, if you ask me: name the different personalities of Madrid

or how many personalities Madrid has.

When I came here for the first time, I'd say: Madrid is clean, organized and gay.

I remember that these are the adjectives that I wrote on my traveler's journal

when I was trying to figure out Madrid's personality.

And I have to admit that on this second trip

my perception has changed a lot.

I still believe that the greatest quality of Madrid is

that is a very organized city

and with a very high lifestyle and quality of life.

People is very civilized. There are a lot of campaigns from the government

to have a very correct civic culture in the streets

to not have disturbances or to throw trash.

The subway is very small but it works well and you can even

charge your cellphone inside the train.

I think there are a lot of campaigns that work very well

and makes it a truly first world city

in that matter, there are public toilets in the streets

and it feels a lot more, I feel it a lot more like a province

like a town, specially downtown.

For example something that I now take in consideration

to know how interesting a city is

is that if you can get to any place that it's interesting

that you've searched for on Google, recommendations, bla bla bla.

And that you can get to all of those places walking

without taking any subway, taxi, bus to get to your destination

then is a small city and it's a not so diverse city

for example Mexico City has touristic places all over

is the biggest city in the world.

Maybe New York can take that throne

because both are large and wide and to go to Xochimilco in Mexico

you have to commute for hours and in the same Mexico City

it's not the outskirts, non of that and just like Xochimilco

there are places all over Mexico City's area

all across Mexico City and it's so complicated

and exhausting to go to every interesting place because there are thousands.

New York is the same, north, south, downtown, south in Brooklyn.

And Barcelona despite is such a small city is the same.

Barcelona is pretty small actually but it has so many interesting neighbourhoods

and so complex and so different one from another

that you have no option but to take the subway to go to so many places

and (in) Madrid that doesn't happen to me. In Madrid I can walk ten minutes

and I get to the next place and that's my point, if Madrid was very interesting

and diverse or more than it is, it'd have interesting things

in the other neighbourhoods further away from downtown and no, the truth is that it doesn't have them

or I haven't discovered them or no one has recommended me nothing

that is not downtown and that for me speaks a lot about how interesting

what? I drew something Coco again?

I know it's such it's such a big shocker

what can I say? I love the movie. I love these two cuties.

and I really wanted to do something Coco Christmas

not just cuz I love the movie

but because I actually watched Coco for the first time in

December and I listened to the album not stop in December

so Coco kind of in a way feels sort of like a Christmas moving to me since I completely obsessed

over it in December and ever since then

but never mind that!

as always I started out with the sketch

usually what I do when I color is I

outline it a darker color than what the solid color will be and then I fill in

with the 2d solid color or I'll go out and out crazy and do like 3d shading

that takes me my entire life like I did for a Voyd and Imelda

but this time I wanted to try something really outside of the box and go for a really painted look.

I've never really done a painted type thing before so here you can see me

testing out all the different paint brushes to find one that I wanted and

then I found the one that I really liked I think it was the oriental brush Orient

brush one of those and then I started working on imelda and Hector themselves

they were a little tricky because the brush could only be so small and I'm a

sucker for details so a couple of times I did switch back to my favorite

airbrush and to do some of the little little details on their face especially

but that was kind of the idea for this one I wanted it to be really warm

feeling a little simpler not as harsh and just different I guess and that's

why I decided to go with the painted look so I hope you guys like how it turned out
