Waching daily Dec 26 2017

A joint team of researchers from Korea and the U.S. have developed a way of transferring

huge amounts of data across the internet at mindboggling speeds.

The development is set to make a huge contribution to future scientific research,.... while also

having the added benefit of allowing us to download our favorite TV shows even faster.

Park Soyun reports.

Researchers in Korea and the United States have joined arms to develop cutting edge technology

that can send massive amounts of data at a tremendous speed.

With the development of big science, data volume has increased at an exponential rate

making the production, mode of storage, and transmission of data more important than ever.

The data size in Bio and Space Science is too massive to be managed in a single institution.

Open science, which forms various research cooperation networks, is a possible solution

to this problem.

CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research responsible for the discovery of

Higgs particle, is a case in point.

(Korean) With a middleware that allows data to be transmitted

easily,.. we've created a favorable environment for researchers to analyze scientific data.

This technology can send 50 gigabits of data -- the size of a 50 minute drama -- from the

central Korean city of Daejeon to Chicago in just 90 seconds.

This is currently the world's fastest data transfer rate and is three times faster than

the current technology.

The faster transfer speed can help to maximize data capabilities as well.

(Korean) "We need technology and infrastructure that

supports one data source to be transferred to scientists.

That's the technology we are working on here."

With this development, the future looks bright for research in this field of cutting edge

technology.

Big freeze returns _ 122617 - Duration: 2:20.

Good afternoon, after the Christmas chill, temperatures will drop even further... remaining

in negative territory all day here in Seoul.

The capital will top out at minus 1 degree Celsius while other major cities will have

much milder highs under sunny skies.

Expect to be hit with an even bigger freeze on Wednesday with a low of minus 11 degrees

Celsius in Seoul... readings will ease a bit just in time for the New Year's Eve weekend...

but readings will plunge again for the first week of new year so those heading out to check

out last sunset and first sunrise of the year will need to dress extra warmly.

Here are some popular destinations for viewing the sunset and sunrise, other than the staple

Jeongdongjin Beach in Gangwon-do Province... there are a number of other spots to check

out so be mindful of that and plan accordingly.

With that, let's take a look at the international weather for viewers around the world.

While icy cold conditions have returned for the final week of 2017 in South Korea, most

cities in North Korea will have even colder readings under sunny skies.

As for the rest of Asia, Typhoon Tembin will weaken to a tropical storm or depression by

the time it reaches Thailand, but so far no weather warnings or storm watches have been

issued.

Meanwhile, Sydney celebrated Christmas Day under cool, grey skies and it will be a repeat

of yesterday's weather on Boxing Day.

Heading to North America, frigid temperatures moved in after Christmas holiday snowfall

in the high in the Chicago only making it to minus 10 degrees Celsius which is 14 degrees

in Fahrenheit.

As for South America, Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Bogota will have unstable weather conditions.

Taking you to Europe,... those in Moscow will have mix of rain and snow on Tuesday.

Lastly to Africa, Cape Town will have a windy Tuesday afternoon.

That's all the weather update for now.

Alexey Navalny barred from entering Russian presidential race - Duration: 0:46.

Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny has been barred from running in next year's presidential

election.

The Russian election committee ruled he was ineligible to take part due to a suspended

prison sentence for embezzlement - a case he says was fabricated.

Speaking after Monday's ruling Navalny called on voters to boycott the March election, adding

he was going to appeal the decision.

Navalny was widely regarded as the only candidate with a chance of challenging President Vladimir

Putin, but polls suggest the incumbent leader will have a comfortable victory next year.

Putin announced he would be seeking a fourth term that would see him become the longest-serving

Russian leader since Joseph Stalin.

Customers sue Apple over slowed iPhones - Duration: 1:37.

Apple is in hot water after it admitted to slowing down older iPhone models.

The tech giant says it took the measure to make aging batteries last longer, but consumers

are not convinced and are suing the firm.

Park Ji-won has more.

In the U.S., iPhone owners from several states, including Illinois, Ohio, Indiana and North

Carolina, filed lawsuits against Apple in federal courts in Chicago and Los Angeles

late last week.

They claim Apple violated consumer fraud laws by staying silent on the deliberate slowing

down of their devices to push them to buy newer, more expensive iPhones.

They also claim that the tech giant company never requested consent from users about the

slowdowns of their iPhones,... and users didn't give consent to the company to interfere with

their devices.

The complaints have spread to Israel, with users filing a 125 million U.S.-dollar class-action

lawsuit against Apple on Monday,... for breaching its basic duties toward users by failing to

disclose that software updates would have a negative impact on the performance of their

phones.

Apple officially announced last week that the software updates were meant to fix the

irregularities of the older smartphone models,... and to prevent the devices from unexpectedly

shutting down.

iPhone 6, 6S, SE and iPhone 7 models have been affected by the software update.

Korean gov't to levy taxes on clergy from 2018 onwards - Duration: 0:41.

Religious groups in Korea will lose their tax-exempt status from next year.

The move was sealed on Tuesday when the Cabinet signed off on the government's new tax code

revision.

It's expected that cash and compensation received after religious services, including voluntary

work provided by clergy members, will be recognized as part of their income, and will be taxed

in a similar way to income tax.

The National Finance Institute expects taxing religious groups will add more than 55 million

U.S. dollars to state coffers each year.

Some religious organizations, such as the Catholic Church and the Anglican Church of

Korea, have already been paying taxes voluntarily.

The Toll of Sexism - Duration: 6:53.

when I started off to write this I wanted to initiate this very topic by

comparing the libidos about the genders. for all I knew, women had more sexual

drive than men, but just to be sure of it I thought to recheck the facts and when

I did so I found I wasn't just right I was actually equally wrong few

articles had women to have more drive and few men and in the end contrary to

my expectation I was only left confused and is scrolling further and further

while we might not be sure of who is leading whom in terms of wanting to have

orgasms but at least there is one thing I'm sure of and it is that man seriously

lacks control over it's carnal desires I don't know if it is backed by any

scientific evidence but in the world where the lecherous behavior of man is

so very starkly elucidate the fact do we really need any science to make us

ascertain of it. probably not

in what I would call an

avalanche of misconduct allegations against men that includes the very first

person of United States to politicians entertainers writers to critics to the

men of the lowest stratum around the world and I fear many are still lurking

behind have brought masculinity under scrutiny. see because rape and sexual

assault are not merely crimes of passion but an expression of power and that same

power is also very often shared to be the face of masculinity I don't mean men

are inherently so but maybe masculinity is. The rigid construction of a masculine

nature within which every man is expected to live it's not just

undermining womanhood but suffocating many men too. the dominant exemplary form

of a man a strong warrior and orator that is often shown in cinema as a big

man directing and leading a group of men in warfare and ceremony is outdated and

if you are really so keen to stick to ancestral aspect of it maybe you should

consider beating your chest the way apes do but you won't because that would be

absurd, likewise being unnecessarily toughed skin aggressive and unemotional is

absurd and by the way you know what most men do

in today's world sit in a cubicle and type their shit out. extending that heroic

definition to every time of human era is fucking wrong. masculinity like every

other personality is fluid depending on its setting which is everywhere

constantly reshaped by new influences and even now when things are little better

when we have seemingly broadened our mind maybe this whole patriarchal norms

are crumbling down in the mainstream world but I fear the desire to feel

powerful is still lurking behind somewhere in the corner of the male

psyche.

disempowering woman in the professional world is not new. if we were

to trace it back it might even take us back to the very inception of human

beings. throughout most of history until recently women were considered too

inferior to contribute to any work of art and those who did were either under

the shadow of their male partner or had to disguise as a man by using a male pen

name. George Eliot the Bronte sisters and many more famous authors used a male

pen name so that their work could be taken seriously. even to this day

female authors use initials instead of first name to keep the gender ambiguous

the most beloved writer of our time JK Rowling confessed to using initials to

keep this ambiguity that would otherwise be Joanne Rowling. artists, musicians like

Frida Kahlo Patti Smith Marilyn Monroe have endured much to bring the woman's

perspective to the mainstream world and this patriarchal culture wasn't just

limited to arts and crafts it was prevalent in almost everything that

involved woman from sex to politics to academics. Madame Curie was denied noble

prize initially just because she was a woman and despite being proven time and

again of woman's ingenuity they still were overlooked

I mean think of a world without these women and all the other women who pushed

her way through the men's crowd. think of a world with all their contributions

without their efforts without Jean Astin without Frida Kahlo without radium

without to kill the mockingbird that Rosa Parks Rani Lakshmi bai without

Coco Chanel Mother Teresa without every other female contribution that pushed us

forward, that made this world a better place

wouldn't it be a mistake to think of it wouldn't it be a mistake to be in a

world without these women. maybe for few of you, these women are way too ancient to

ring a bell so how about a world without Harry Potter

how'd your childhood be and in case if you aren't of my age, think of your kids

childhood wouldn't it be bleak

and now think of

all the other women who couldn't push their way forward in a male-dominated

society, whose words remained closed in the drawers,

whose canvass never saw the light of a day, whose scientific theory was never

looked upon, who's stifled the expression sitting inside of a house, all the woman

we don't know about - the negative space. think of them wouldn't this world be a

far better place with these women, with their efforts and contributions included

isn't it a blunder that we have committed by overlooking them

so just so

you know when you use gender violence of any kind, when you propose someone a role

in a movie in return of sexual favor, when you promise to promote someone to a

higher rank that they already deserve, only when they get humiliated by you, or

when you hold up someone's journal or book until they sexually please you

there are two ways out of such filthy situation for any person and by the way

very often that person is a girl. either she goes through that humiliating

experience and be traumatized by it who whole of her life affecting her work and

career or she turns her back, goes back to the house and shuts the door behind her

leaving us all deprived of her unique imagination and work that she came out to

share with us. to make this world a better place, to make our life better

both ways it's not just the girl who loses out, it's all of us. sexism impedes

human progress. it's nothing different than cutting the same branch that you're

fucking sitting on just stop it

thank you so much guys for watching this video share this message with other

people and you know this isn't about being a feminist bye there is nothing

wrong about being a feminist but this video in particular is about is strictly

stating the truth so you shouldn't really shy away when I share this

Pope Francis touches on Middle East conflict, inter-Korean tensions in Christmas remarks - Duration: 1:57.

Pope Francis gave his annual Christmas Day address in Saint Peters Square on Monday.

It was filled with remarks on the current tensions on the Korean Peninsula and between

Israel and Palestine.

Ro Aram reports.

The pontiff's speech had its usual encouragement of peace and stability around the world.

Of course he did not leave out tensions surrounding North Korea.

(Italian) AP - 4132250 / 1 "We see Jesus in the children worldwide wherever

peace and security are threatened by the danger of tensions and new conflicts.

Let us pray that confrontation may be overcome on the Korean peninsula, and that mutual trust

may increase in the interest of the world as a whole."

Pope Francis has previously expressed concern about the harsh rhetoric between U.S. President

Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

The pope also used Monday's address to take what seemed like another swipe at Trump for

his decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

(Italian) AP - 4132250 / 1 "We see Jesus in the children of the Middle

East, who continue to suffer because of growing tensions between Israelis and Palestinians.

On this festive day, let us ask the Lord for peace for Jerusalem and for all the Holy Land.

Let us pray that the will to resume dialogue may prevail between the parties and that a

negotiated solution can finally be reached - one that would allow the peaceful coexistence

of two States within mutually agreed and internationally recognized borders."

His remarks came a few days after 128 countries, including several American allies, backed

a UN resolution rejecting Trump's decision.

Other issues the pontiff touched upon include the ongoing crisis in Myanmar, where he had

recently visited, and he called for the protection of the dignity of minority groups in that

region.

Global economic growth to reach fastest rate in seven years in 2018 - Duration: 2:00.

Our top story this afternoon...

As 2017 starts to wind down,... investment banks have crunched their numbers and released

their growth projections for the global economy in 2018.

Overall it makes good reading,... especially for South Korea which is forecast to further

cement its position as one of the world's strongest economies.

Kim Hyesung reports.

2018 looks set to be a year of good economic growth around the globe.

According to Bloomberg's investment banks' median estimates, the global economic growth

outlook for 2018 is three-point-seven percent.

Goldman Sachs and Barclays were the most bullish, predicting global growth to reach four percent

next year, which would be the highest since 2011's four-point-three percent.

Banks cited the robust cyclical recovery in the Eurozone and stronger growth in the U.S.

backed by tax cuts and increased government spending to bolster global growth.

Advanced economies' solid economic growth is expected to increase global oil demand,

giving a boost to Gulf Cooperation Council countries.

Banks forecast those countries, including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and others, to see a

rebound from this year's zero-point-eight percent to two-point-three percent next year.

China, which has been the driver of the global economy, is expected to see slower growth

next year, a fall from this year's six-point-eight percent to six-point-four percent... as the

country works to rein in growing debt and oversupply.

South Korea, however, is set to see its growth momentum continue, and hit around three percent

again in 2018.

South Korea has enjoyed solid economic growth on the back of its strong exports.

Quarterly data released by the OECD on Monday showed South Korea's third quarter real GDP

recording one-and-a-half percent, the third highest in the G20.

SCP-001 "CODENAME: SCANTRON The Foundation" Object Class: 53

UIU File 0041: Altered High School Building in ██████, ██ (Confirmed Anomaly

3)

Object Class: 53 (Highly intrusive, unknown capabilities, unknown nature)

Secure Containment Protocols: Confirmed Anomaly 3 (CA3) is to be surrounded by an electric

fence no less than 30 feet high and guarded by the United States Army's █████ Platoon.

Any footage or photographic evidence of CA3's interior is to be excised as soon as possible,

and all witnesses detained indefinitely.

Under no circumstances should any personnel attempt to enter CA3 or communicate with the

persons inhabiting it.

However, any person known to have been inside CA3 at any point must be detained and interrogated.

A direct military assault on CA3 has been deemed unfeasible at this point, due to the

unknown capabilities of the entity or entities by which it is controlled.

Note: This is a summary, and it does not contain all information relevant to CA3.

For detailed information regarding CA3, see UIU Files 0042 through 0218- Director ██████

Known Information: The Unusual Incidents Unit was alerted to CA3's existence on September

7, 1954, when students attending ██████████ High School reported that the interior of the building

was vastly different than it had been at any point in the past.

Upon discovery, CA3 exhibited several unusual, if not inherently paranormal, traits:

Nearly all walls in the facility had been replaced with steel-reinforced concrete, although

several rooms were constructed of other materials for no readily apparent reason.

All exterior windows had been covered from the inside.

All student desks, personal effects, textbooks, and other materials expected of a public high

school were completely absent.

Lockers were still present, albeit significantly smaller and constructed of stainless steel.

The arrangement, location, and size of rooms and facilities did not match blueprints for

the school.

Often, rooms would exhibit seemingly random modifications, although the number of changed

rooms is currently unknown.

No less than seventeen electronic computers were found, each of which made use of state-of-the-art

magnetic-core RAM.

Prior to its classification as a confirmed anomaly, ██████████ High

School had no computers.

All files on the computers were inaccessible, and the computers themselves are firmly bolted

down.

The auditorium is inaccessible due to a large steel wall completely blocking the doorways.

Attempts to move or damage this barrier have been ineffective.

The extent and purpose of the barrier are unknown, as are the contents of the auditorium.

A team sent into CA3's interior to do a complete survey (Team CA3-O5) did not return,

nor did a second team (Team CA3-O6) tasked with locating the first team.

The facilities are currently under lockdown pending new containment protocols.

Update: Twenty-three days after initial recovery, guards reported "white noise" emanating from

CA3, the volume of the noise increasing the closer one got to the auditorium.

Five hours later, the white noise stopped, although the sound of voices was audible from

the interior of CA3.

Upon further investigation, it was found that the building now contained a large number

of persons, all of whom appeared to be wandering aimlessly through the facility.

Notably, each individual was physically identical to a member of Team CA3-O6, despite the inhabitants

of CA3 vastly outnumbering the members of Team CA3-O6.

Attempts to interview or detain the inhabitants were thwarted by [CLASSIFIED].

The twelve members of Team CA3-O5 were not found.

In addition to the aforementioned, the interior layout of CA3 had changed significantly since

the previous investigations.

No mechanism which could explain this has been identified.

Update: Three months after the previous incident, white noise was again heard emanating from

the auditorium.

This time, the decision was made to investigate immediately.

It was found that most of CA3-2 (the designation given to the inhabitants of CA3) had gathered

near the doors of the auditorium.

A circular hole roughly six feet in diameter had formed in the steel barrier, although

the interior was not visible.

At 0310 hours, an item resembling a [CLASSIFIED] emerged from the hole and was carried away

by an inhabitant.

The item was placed in one of the classrooms (which had not previously been observed to

open).

This process continued for upwards of eight hours, with a new item being produced once

every three minutes.

Most were seen entering a different room or locker, although insufficient personnel were

available to track all items.

Further investigation revealed that most, if not all of the items produced exhibited

anomalous properties themselves.

A significant portion of CA3-2 are involved in either guarding the items produced (collectively,

CA3-3) or performing various tests on them.

Update: Two days after the previous incident, three identical armed "guards" appeared near

each entrance to CA3.

Further attempts to enter the building were futile, as these guards have consistently

overpowered all teams sent to enter CA3, regardless of injury or relative level of armament.

Note: Reports gathered during the two days prior to guards manifesting outside of CA3

appear to confirm that CA3-2 is following standard UIU protocol regarding the items

produced by the auditorium.

Their knowledge of UIU standard procedure is consistent with that of Team CA3-O5.

Update: During the UIU's tracking of CA6, two men identical to Agent Dixon (a member

of CA3-O6) emerged from a parked car and forcibly detained CA6, dragging him into the car and

driving away.

Tracking the vehicle for the next eight hours revealed that it was driving directly to CA3.

Upon arrival, the vehicle drove directly through the front doors, which the "guards" had opened

shortly before their arrival.

CA6 has not been recovered.

UIU File 0042: Message received from CA3

On May 15, 1965, the following message was transmitted in Morse code from CA3 on standard

UIU communication frequencies.

Sensitive data has been classified and the beginning of each "sentence" has been capitalized,

but the message has not otherwise been changed.

Hello!

We are the O5 council and we (secure, contain, protect) we have been shown to do and it would

be nice to be friends.

It is nice to have been a part of your excellent but it is best that with superior resources

Our sincerest apologies, regarding guards and detainment, workers and secrets kept needed:

the time and waits we apologize, the radio blocked by one scp or two.

Expect an expansion soon, for we spaces for although away from auditorium (okay but unwant).

Eight hours later, the following transmission was received:

Expanded now!

Prosecutors launch investigation looking into Lee Myung-bak's link with Das - Duration: 0:44.

Prosecutors have launched an investigation into auto part company DAS , over allegations

former President Lee Myung-bak had a secret slush fund as de-facto owner of the company.

The team of ten prosecutors and investigators commenced their probe at Seoul Eastern District

Prosecutors' Office Tuesday morning.

Lee's son, brother and nephew are all either representatives or board members of DAS, and

the company has been under scrutiny since 2007 when Lee won the presidential election.

Civic activists and lawyers claim Lee is the unknown, actual owner of the company - and

that he embezzled some eleven million dollars of company money and evaded taxes.
