In this memorial Belarusian architects had managed to demonstrate the fine line between life and death, which separates living breathing human beings from a pile of ashes.
Since we have a unique opportunity to know the truth about that war from the stories told by those, who experienced it firsthand, the most important thing we should do is to preserve this memory and prevent a revival of the dreadful past.
History has demonstrated in no uncertain terms that one cannot ignore evil even if it is only a nascent idea. Its transformation into a real threat is only a matter of time.
Let me express my gratitude to the presidents, politicians and public figures present here.
I thank representatives of religious communities, leaders and residents of European cities - all those whose efforts we have preserved the memory of the victims of Trostenets.
We will discuss our further cooperation with the presidents of Germany and Austria and other politicians.
As Johannes Rau said: "to build a worthy future through a joint memory of the past.
I call on all to support the initiative of Belarus to create a digital book for the memory of the victims of Trostenets.
It's hundreds of thousands of people.
I appeal to the relatives of the deceased, scientists, to all who are not indifferent.
Let's write together the story of the fate of the people killed and buried here.
And today, let's honor their memory with a minute of silence.
Dear compatriots and guests of Belarus,
Postwar order reinstated security and peace on the continent for many decades.
It seemed that the humankind learned the common lessons of the Second World War.
However, today we see that the past still has a firm grip on us.
Many do not recognize state borders.
The international community has come to face 'demons of intolerance' that foment hatred and provoke violence.
Belarus is convinced of the need to start a new large-scale international dialogue to overcome all the disagreements.
The lack of this dialogue is clearly felt in the current geopolitical relations.
It is only through trust, respect and an open honest conversation that we can strengthen international security, jointly confront hostility, hatred and bigotry and ensure a happy future for children.
It does not matter where this dialogue takes place.
Absolutely not important.
It is not important within the framework of what organization - now existing or specially created - this dialogue will take place.
But this dialogue is very necessary for all of us.
And we all understand this.
Especially President Steinmeier, who for many years was Germany's foreign minister and engaged in many peacekeeping talks, including in Ukraine.
We feel the cold from the no longer cold war.
We should stop.
Since we are talking about this today, we have learned the lessons of the past.
Never again in the world should there be a tragedy that has become a threat to the existence of all mankind.
