So I have lots of travel experiences.
There are a lot of things I do.
I am going to tell you everything.
The first story that I am gonna share is about my first ever travel in an aircraft.
The very first time I took a flight,
I was jumping out of joy.
I remember I was going to Chennai and I was so happy.
I web checked in to get a window seat
and did the same what most of us do.
I was looking down to find my house.
I am sure you would also have done the same.
Ya, I was trying to find my house..
my landmarks.. important landmarks.. everything..
and obviously I couldn't find them.
Nevertheless, I was very happy.
So, when the aircraft took off I realized..
o dude... all these houses, people and all have become so tiny tiny...
And such small things might not even exist...
probably for somebody who lives... up there.
So if we are that small and insignificant,
then how do we give so much importance to ourselves.
Like I do this a lot of time..
my EGO...
comes in the way of lots of things.
(Hey.. I am this.. I am that.. smart Delhi girl... and all)
So all this is our Ego which
could be very dangerous at times.
Then I realized that it's not that great a thing.
It never worked in my favor.
If it worked in your case... well & good.
But most of the times, in my case some amount of ego is healthy
but lot of it...
nah.. doesn't work..
So I have decided to work on it and reduce it.
This is my personal story.. my experience...
and now i want to know your experiences because
I am definitely very interested in your stories.

Free Motion Quiting Skills & Drills: Square & Arc - Duration: 8:10.Man Sewing: FMQ: Square & Arc 8:10
Hey all you jazz fans out there.
It's another fantastic free motion quilting motif.
This one is great for the modern quilts.
Let's get started.
I'm often challenged when it comes to coming up with cool motifs to put into modern quilts.
I love the way modern quilts are quilted a lot of times in the background.
But I wanted to think of something that would look kind of architectural.
So check this out.
This is the block and arc design.
It is very very simple and it allows you to double back so you don't get quilted into
a corner.
Follow along, so in the description below right next to that subscribe button of course
is the free printable.
And this will show you how to do these.
Now the little hash marks here are arrows for motion.
So you would start right up here.
And then you're going to come down and make your square first.
When I get to the end of the square then I make an arcing shape.
And that usually hits somewhere along the other edge.
It doesn't have to hit in the middle.
And then from there that starts the next block or square and then the arc.
So one of the things I often recommend with these kinds of printables, if you haven't
done much with free motion machine quilting take out a sharpie marker, or a pencil, something
that's going to glide nicely over paper and draw over the free printables a few times.
That starts to ingrain that motor memory so that you can then perform it when you get
to your sewing machine.
So I literally drew it just a few times.
And this is the very first time I stitched it out.
You can see it probably could use a little bit of structure.
There's some wobbly little arcs and things in there.
But quilting is just that.
The more organic it looks I think the more we appreciate the quilting.
Form it that way.
So again here the blocks.
You can see some of these areas where you can double back in.
The thread gets a little thick so you don't want to do it too many times.
But let me see if I can't show you how to do this on one of our little samples here.
So we're coming to the machine.
And I do have on some Machinger's gloves which help my fabric slide, excuse me help
me grip my fabric very nicely.
And then I've got the Sew Slip mat underneath which also helps the fabric move very nicely
on the bed.
Let me see if I can bring up my thread tail.
I often use my thread cutter on this machine and so that leaves a little teeny tail down
in there.
And I'm not sure if I can get it for you or not.
Well it's barely there.
I'm just going to stitch onto it a couple of times like this and I'll show you a trick
here in a minute for starting and stopping another way, ok?
So I've now locked my threads in and I'm going to start in the middle of my project
because I can go in any direction with this.
And I'm going to begin to do my square first.
I came a little long so I"m going to come back to the corner.
From here I'm going to come in and do some fun arc.
Take a moment.
I'm going to cut this thread tail while we talk about the arcs.
One of the things I did find is I don't want all of my arcs kind of heading in the
same direction.
So that helps, adds some variety to our quilting.
So let's not get too tunnel visioned in our shape.
And now I'm building off.
So the first square is a full square.
And then from there the squares don't have to be complete.
Now I'm in the middle of a run so I could come here and I could bring my arc back up
to a corner like this.
So now again those arcs are the same direction.
I can put a bigger square.
I can make it not necessarily hit in all directions.
And let's say I come back with a really nice arc coming all the way in, then I can
just follow this same line I created.
Look we can make a small square right here too.
So what becomes fun is just building off of the design creating a variety of sizes of
squares.
And a variety of styles of arcs.
Now I still would like your arcs to look kind of circular while you're doing it.
But they don't want to all have to stay headed in the same direction.
And they certainly don't have to start in a corner and they don't have to stop on
an edge.
This is just a real fun modern design here.
So I filled in that square.
Coming back around here, chasing it.
Ok, so I think you get the idea here.
Now let's go ahead and do this on the big quilt.
But I promised I would show you some good start and stop techniques.
So let's start with the stop.
That's not easy to say.
So I'm going to bring my handwheel up, raise my presser foot.
And I actually have now a hold of the thread.
And hopefully you can see.
When I come in here and cut, look at that.
That's the bobbin thread too.
So when I snip that that should have freed the entire project.
And now I've got a nice long thread tail from the bobbin that I can capture while we
grab the big quilt, the monster man sampler here.
And this is fun.
This is a quilt we've been working on with a bunch with a lot of different fun motifs.
I've got a lot of motif videos out there if you haven't seen them already.
And so the point this quilt really helps us remember is that no matter the size of the
quilt you're only quilting in a small window at a time.
So I don't want you to all be overwhelmed when it comes to these quilt projects if they're
giant just because they're giant.
You're just going to take one stitch at a time.
Now I'm looking for the spot I've chosen.
Again a lot of different kinds of block work in this sampler quilt in purpose.
In here, this is nice big patchwork or nice big rectangle.
So I'm going to try to fill in all of this gray area here.
I can start up in the top corner because this is where I've already been quilting so that
I don't trap batting in and fabric up here.
So I want to quilt away from my areas.
So I'm going to start in this area where the other quilting is and start moving away
on this quilt.
I'm going to pop this pin right now because I already quilted within a few inches so I
can get the safety pin that was basting it, out of the way.
And one of the things I really love to do at home is I love to machine quilt with some
big headphones on and some of my favorite music, actually music I listen to a lot.
So it kind of helps me get that rhythm.
Think of your quilt like your dance partner, right?
If you practice quilting to the same music often then you get a good rhythm based on
that style of music.
And that can be a lot of fun.
So in a few moments I'm going to turn up my music, let you enjoy me doing my block
and arc design.
But let me walk you through that start before we get too carried away.
And then you can enjoy just watching me quilt for the end of the video here today.
So at the moment my presser foot is still up.
I'm going to take a single stitch by hand there at the wheel in that corner.
And now I can pull forward slightly and I have gotten ahold of the bobbin thread.
Now I can put back.
Make sure you drop your presser foot, take a few stitches in place.
And now I'm just going to run down this seam like stitch in the ditch at first.
Stitch somewhere near the ditch.
And then I'm going to cut these thread tails out, ok.
Pretend headphones on and here goes the rock and roll.

with some of your modern quilts, some of your borders, some of those big long areas you
need to fill in.

TOEFL 70点: 70点でアメリカの大学に入る方法 - Duration: 12:21.Do you want to study at an American University, but you don't have a very high TOEFL score?
In this video, I'll show you how you can get into some American Universities
with a TOEFL score of less than 70.
This is the first video of 4, showing you how to get TOEFL scores of 70 or 80 or 90 or 100.
For some American undergraduate programs, a score of 61 or 68 is all you need in order
to enter that program.
These programs also don't usually require a specific score for each of the sections of the TOEFL.
An example of this is Washington State University, which has a national rank of 124 and a rank of 351.world
A national rank is the ranking, or the position, of that university
compared to the other universities in the USA.
A work rank is the ranking of that university in all of the other universities in the world.
Harvard University has a national rank of 1.
It is the top university in the USA.
It's also the top university in the world, so it has a world rank of 1.
In Canada, there aren't any university programs that accept a TOEFL score of under 70.
However, you could be accepted if you complete one of their ESL programs.
I recommend getting an 18 in Reading, an 18 in Listening, a 17 in Speaking, and a 17 in Writing.
So now, let's go to the computer.
I'll show you how you can get each of those scores for each section of the TOEFL test.
Here are 4 ways to improve your reading skills to get a score of 17 on the Reading section.
I want you to stop the video and read them and try to understand them.
So, it's best for you to get a good reading skills in the topics that TOEFL talks about,
as well as just improving your academic vocabulary words.
This will help you get a score of 17 for the Reading section.
I told you to focus on the topics that TOEFL often shows for the Reading section,
so I'm going to show you.
These are long lists of topics on the TOEFL.
So stop the video, look through these.
Do you understand what these mean?
If not, check up the word in your dictionary and on Wikipedia.
Here is Arts topics and Life Sciences.
And here are Physical Sciences and Social Sciences.
So, look through these topics.
Do you understand what the word means?
Look at it in the dictionary and find it on Wikipedia.
Get a general understanding about these topics.
The same for Listening...I recommend aiming for a score of 17 in this section.
So, here are 4 ways to improve your Listening skills.
So, again, I recommend stopping the video and read through these.
Get a general idea of what you should be able to do.
So the main ideas is focusing on fairly general English and making sure you understand what
sometimes they say in English movies or if you could watch a university lecture on YouTube.
So, for the Speaking section, I want you to understand what the score mean and what that
equals for being able to speak a good level for that score.
So, I recommended getting a Speaking score of 17.
Some schools only require a score of 15.
So, what this means...if you aim for a score of 15, this equals a score of 2 out of 4 for
each of the 6 Speaking questions.
So, I'm going to show you what you need to do to get a Speaking score of 2.
If you want a Speaking score of 17, then this means that of your 6 different answers, one
of those needs to be a score of 3.
And this would give you an average score of 2.16.
So, it means that one of your answers needs to be a bit higher level.
So, let me show you what you need to do to get a score of 2 or 3 for the Speaking section.
I'm going to show you specifically what you need to do to raise your score from 15 to
a 17 on the Speaking section.
So, for the Speaking section, the evaluators are looking at 3 categories for how well you
say your answers on the Speaking section.
The first is Delivery.
This is mainly your pronunciation, but also the speed and the pace at which you say your answer.
And so, can they understand the words that you're saying.
The next category is Language Use.
This is mainly grammar and your vocabulary.
And so, do you have grammatically-correct sentences?
And, what level of vocabulary are you using in your answers?
So, the last category is Topic Development.
This is how well do you structure your answer.
Mainly, they're looking at: Do you give specific details in your answer as well as some examples?
Do you explain things well?
Is there an introduction and a final sentence to wrap up your Speaking answer?
So, we're going to look at each of these 3 categories and find out how to get a score
of 2 or 3 for each of them.
So, to get a Speaking score of 2, for your Delivery: The listener can basically understand
the message, but the listener requires effort to understand it clearly.
This is because the speaking is not clear, or the speed or rhythm is not smooth.
It could also be that the meaning is not clearly understood.
Compared to getting a Speaking score of 3, now: Your speech is clear and some expressions
are said smoothly.
There are still some difficulties with pronunciation, intonation, and pacing.
The ideas can be understood, but it requires more listener effort.
So, you can that to get a Speaking score of 3, you need to have much clearer pronunciation
and that they can understand the basic ideas that you're saying from your pronunciation
and your intonation.
And now, to get a Speaking score of 2 for Language Use: Only limited use of vocabulary
or types of grammar are used.
This means that the student cannot express all of their ideas.
Also, only simple grammar and words are used.
Therefore, the message can be said but it is not fluent.
Comparing with getting a score of 3: The speaker has a fairly automatic and effective use of
grammar and vocabulary.
It is okay if there are some problems with vocabulary or grammar.
The speaker may not have a wide range of grammar structures.
Fluency is not perfect but most of the message can be understood.
So the evaluator needs to be able to understand the main ideas that you're saying, from using
good grammar in your sentences and good vocabulary words.
And for Topic Development, to get a Speaking score of 2: The answer is connected to the
topic, but there are not many ideas given.
Maybe there are only basic ideas and not many details or examples given.
The ideas might not be connected well.
As well, relevant ideas are vague or repeated.
Compared with getting a Speaking score of 3: The response contains some relevant ideas.
These ideas are understood, although the relationship between the ideas might not be so clear.
Also, the organization of the ideas is limited.
The answers may be shorter and not so specific.
Still, you can see that for a Speaking score of 3, then there needs to be some relationship
between the ideas and there is some organization.
And so therefore, this evaluator can understand the basic ideas.
For the Writing section, you also need to understand how the scoring works.
So, you have your Integrated essay and your Independent essay.
And there will be 2 different evaluators checking each of your essays.
So you'll get 4 grades put into an average grade.
The evaluators will grade your essays out of 5.
And so, if you require a score of 15, this means that of your essays, that basically
can get a score of 2 out of 5, but one of your essays, by one of the evaluators, gives
you a score of 3.
And that would give you an average score of 2.25, which would give you a score of 15.
If you require a score of 17, that means that you're evaluators would need to give you two
3 of 5s...either both give you a 3 out of 5 on one of your essays, or one of the evaluators
gives you a 3 out of 5 on both your Independent and Integrated essays.
We're going to do the same for Writing.
In order to get a score of 2 or 3 for the Writing section, then I will show you the
differences for the Integrated essay and the Independent essay.
So, to get a score of 2 for the Integrated essay: There is some relevant information
from the lecture, but many problems give an unclear connection to the reading.
There may be important ideas missing or being wrong.
The answer might not connect the ideas from the lecture and the reading well.
Finally, language and vocabulary errors may change the meaning of the ideas or make too general.them
Now, comparing to getting a Writing score of 3: The essay contains some relevant information
from the listening and the reading, but it also has some problems.
There are problems with the ideas not being clear or connected well.
Only one of the major ideas might be mentioned.
Also, there are problems with word usage or grammar that may make the meaning of the answer
unclear or too general.
Going from a 2 to a 3 means that the evaluator needs to understand what you're trying to
say, even though your ideas might not be so clear, they can see there is a connection
between the reading and the lecture.
And we'll do the same for the Independent essay.
To get a score of 2: There may only be a short answer.
It might not be organized much or connect the ideas well.
There are not enough details or examples.
There are problems with word choice and grammar.
And to get a score of 3 for the Writing section: There are some details or examples used in the answer.
The ideas are connected although the ideas are sometimes unclear.
The grammar and word usage may make the meaning of the answer unclear or too general.
So here, you can see that the Writing section needs to have some connected ideas and that
the meaning is more understood and opposed to 2 where there are some ideas, but it's
really hard to understand the main idea.
So, now that you know what it takes to get a score of 70 on the TOEFL, you can look at
your individual sections and find which is the weakest, and therefore, improve on it faster.
Now honestly, 70 is not a very high TOEFL score for getting into American universities.
Actually, a TOEFL score of 70 will not get you into any Canadian universities and the
American universities are not so high level.
Even though it's possible to get into an American university with a TOEFL score of under 70,
I think it's better to just study TOEFL for 1 or 2 more months and get a TOEFL score of over 70.
I encourage you to watch the video of how to get a TOEFL score of 80, which would help
you get into a wider range of American universities, as well as Canadian universities.
This will help you get into a better university, and you'll also have better English skills
to understand what's happening in the university classes.

it's now five thirty in the morning
and we're heading to the United Nations
we have to leave early because the event starts early over there
and the distance from the city I'm in, Bethlehem, to New York city is about two and a half hours
or two hours depending on traffic
hopefully we'll be arriving there on time
we have now arrive in New York city
from our entrance to the city to reaching the UN HQ takes about 30 minutes
but NYC as a place and as a city is incredible
it really feels like a massive city full of different things, full of people, full of everything
we're now in front of the UN
this is the main building where the General Secretary is
and this is the building where most events are held
today's event is about the refugee crisis
it starts soon, in about 30 minutes
so I've got my I.D ready
and of course...
The university logo
because this visit is organized by the university
they always organize events such as this and ask the participating students to wear the logo
so university events can be visible in the UN
we're now inside the UN
I couldn't film in the place we entered through because it's a security checkpoint
it's similar to security points at airports
Take off your belt, your rings, remove metal and coin etcetera
but finally we made it inside the UN and the building behind me now is the one I've shown you earlier from outside where most events are held
let's go and take a look inside
we're now inside the UN building, and this is the main entrance
you can find the information desk and main rooms
this area is open to the public, you can buy tickets and enter or if you have an invitation to some event you can get in here easily
there are two exhibitions here in the main entrance area
the topics of the exhibits is always changing depending on current occasions
they always attempt to shed light on various topics
this is the underground floor under the reception area
it's a place for rest, there's a cafeteria, a gift shop, a book and stamp shop
it's also a public area that you can enter without an I.D and just a visit ticket
it's a cool little spot, let's check out the shops
this is the entrance for the event I'm attending
it's being organized by CTAUN, the committee on Teaching About the United Nations
our day is over now
and now I'm returning from NYC to Bethlehem, we're done at the UN
and honestly this was a day that changed my perspective on a lot of things
the refugee crisis is a lot bigger than we perceive it
even though I've studied this topic academically but it's not the same as hearing young men and women from Palestine, Iraq, South Sudan, and Syria
Talking about the suffering and hardship they had to go through, it really makes you think
and especially us in Libya, we have people who have left their cities
and I'm not only talking about Tawergha, in almost every single city in Libya there are people who were forced to leave their homes and families
and frankly all of this has motivated me to change this in our country
I will work on this issue as soon as I go home to Libya
I suppose this is the purpose of UN events, to open people's eyes to these issues
and encourage people to work on them
this trip of course didn't cover all of the UN, it was just a small part of this building

The amount of time and money people waste because of bad advice or false beliefs is staggering
There are so many myths about learning a foreign language
It's what I talk about in the first chapter of my book Virtually Native
All those myths cloud your mind, waste your time and ultimately kill your motivation.
We need to dispel them in order to clear your mind, so you can focus on what really works
in terms of learning a foreign language
Let's dive right in.
Myth #1 Practice makes perfect
It's not just about quantity, it's also about quality
Study Hard vs Study Smart
It's about not wasting time doing things that are ineffective

Myth #2 Too old to learn, The age myth
They say that it is very hard and even impossible to learn a foreign language past a certain age
past puberty
There is truth and untruth in this belief
I talk a lot in my book about age and the limitations of age
The gist of it is
acquiring a foreign language has 3 main aspects pronunciation accuracy fluency
In my experience age only matters for pronunciation accent
There are no limits on fluency and accuracy
I'm the proof
Myth #3 You need to have Talent for Languages
The language gene, does it exist, is it a myth?
how much is genetics and how much is hard work?
I guess we'll never know for the simple reason that it's very hard, even impossible
to draw a line between hard work and talent
The main thing is that it's not an excuse, it's like saying that
God doesn't want you to learn English
It doesn't make any sense
Myth #4 Better go abroad, the only way to be fluent in a foreign language is
to live in the country where it is spoken
No, that's not true I am a living proof of that
I learned English outside an English speaking country
and I've been living in Japan for over 12 years
and my Japanese is not even half as good as my English
In all fairness, the belief that studying in the country where the language is spoken
was kind of true until very recently, before the invention of this thing called
the Internet
In the pre-Internet era there was very limited access to foreign books, radio, TV and movies
one really benefited from living abroad
But today it makes virtually no difference where you live and especially with regard to English
Myth #5 Native speakers = the best language teachers
The myth is in the equal sign.
Many learners equate the term native speaker with the term the best language teacher
This myth is something I am quite passionate about, it is the subtitle of my book
by a non-native for the non-native
Okay, let me say just this
Knowing something and teaching something are 2 very distinct, separate areas of expertise
Teaching a language is so much more than just being a human dictionary

Myth #6 It's okay to make mistakes
And this is something native language teachers say all the time
No, mistakes are not okay
There is a difference between something being inevitable and okay
We are bound to make mistakes but it doesn't mean that they are okay
Myth #7 Strong motivation is essential
Strong motivation is the most important factor in language learning success.
Of course, motivation is important
We need motivation
We need motivation to exercise, to go to work, to go to school, we need motivation
to breathe and live
We need motivation for everything
The problem with strong motivation is that if you are not using the right method
you will fail to get results and you will most likely lose your motivation.
On the other hand, you might get good results even with low motivation
as long as you are using the right method
You need a bit of motivation, no doubt about that, but what you also need
is a smart way of learning
I believe that successful learning can actually increase motivation
In other words, motivation helps learning, but successful learning can also improve and strengthen motivation
do you really need motivation to learn English?
at least a little bit of English
Do people really need convincing, need a reason to learn to speak the only true global language?
Myth #8 Understanding is Everything and Memorization is Bad
This is one of the biggest myths about foreign language acquisition
