Waching daily Apr 30 2017

Robert was a librarian at the University of New Hampshire.

and he was a librarian there for 50 years.

Robert was a pretty frugal guy.

He never went out to eat.

He ate TV dinners.

He drove a 1992 Plymouth,

and he loved, he loved to read.

At one point, he decided to read all the books in the library.

He started with the books

that were written in the 1930s

and didn't stop until he had read 1,938 books.

He had read them in chronological order.

Robert died in 2015

and a couple of weeks after he died,

the University of New Hampshire received a check from his estate for

$4 million.

Nobody was expecting it.

Nobody thought that he was worth that kind of money.

And he left only one instruction.

He, he wanted $100,000 of the four million dollars

to go towards the library that he loved so much.

But he said the university was free to use the money,

the rest of the money, in whatever way that they wanted.

And so the university, knowing his great love of reading,

knowing his great love of books,

knowing his severe dislike for anything extravagant,

they decided to use the next million dollars of his estate

on a new scoreboard for the football stadium,

a football stadium that they had just spent $25 million renovating.

Now, the university didn't do anything wrong.

Other than the request for a $100,000

to go towards the library,

he really did say that they could use the money

in whatever way that they wanted.

But there are a lot of people who were very upset with the university

because they felt it was very obvious what Robert loved,

and it seems like what he loved

didn't really matter all that much to anyone.

This week we're going to go through a section of scripture in Luke chapter 16

that shows us very clearly that what you love

really does matter

and it matters to God.

In Luke chapter 16, Jesus told the story about two men,

a rich man and the guy named Lazarus.

And this is how it goes.

This is how it starts.

Two very different lives,

two very different descriptions of what people love during their lives.

And as we'll see during the week,

two very different outcomes for each of those lives.

But the story illustrates the principle that what you love really does matter.

It means something.

And that was the case, even for the person who's telling the story.

Well, what Jesus loved most in his life

was you.

It was you.

"Greater love has no one than this," he once told his disciples,

"that he lay down his life

for his friends."

He considered you his friend.

He loved you

and that made a difference in his life.

It made a difference in how he lived,

in who he spent time with,

in what he taught.

And also made a difference

in how he died,

and why he did.

He died

loving you.

What he loved made a difference in his life,

and what he loved also made a difference in your life.

And that difference is what we'll be talking about this week.

Jesus was excessively rich in his love for you.

Do you have a story about how someone in your life

was excessively rich in their love towards you or for someone else?

We'd love to hear about it and celebrate that love with you.

Leave it in the comments below

and I look forward to seeing you tomorrow.

Walpurgis Night - Duration: 7:13.

hello friends my name is Arith Härger and

why do you always do that?

what?

Saying your name, everybody knows that by now

I'm being polite, introducing myself first

bah! that's a waste of time . . . anyway what

what are you going to talk about today?

yes I was about to say that before you

interrupted me

humpf

well I'm going to talk about the Walpurgis night

ah!

there are probably hundreds of videos about that

yeah most likely

but I want to give my contribution to the subject

bah! rubbish!

and also a waste of time

you know what you should do?!

what?

including me in your videos

more often hehe heh

yeah well, yes yes I suppose I could

one of these days I will

give you a little surprise

hmm I have a bad feeling about that what are you up to?

heh, you will see hue hue hue

alright

right let's get started

Walpurgis night is a celebration that

takes place during the 30th of April

to the first of May and its origins date

back to the pagan fertility rites and

the coming of spring but with the

Christianization of the northern peoples

of Europe this celebration was combined

with a celebration of Valburg or Walburga

which is a celebration held in honor to

a nun with the same name

Walburga, she was a nun who lived in the

8th century and she was born in

England and at some point in her life

she moved to Germany where she founded a

católica convent

it is believed that

she cured the illnesses of local

residents therefore she was canonized by

the miracles she performed she soon

started to be worshipped in a similar

way the pagans worshipped spring and

since the two celebrations are very

close together on the time of these

celebrations are practically the same

the two celebrations

soon

were mixed together and create- and it was

created this Valburg or Walpurgis night

celebration in ancient pagan times this

festivity was often celebrated with

dancing and huge bonfires it was very

similar with the Halloween festivity

in a way that it has to do with

supernatural spirits of both ancestors

and gods but also the land spirits and

the bonfires in in this celebration are

a warm welcome to spring and to receive

the heat and to say farewell to the cold

and harsh winter times

this night also

represented the time when the boundaries

between our world and the world of the

spirits were a bit shaky much like

Halloween or Samhain, this was a time

where when it was possible to

communicate with the spirits and the

spirit world

during this time bonfires

were traditionally lit to keep away

malevolent spirits and those who might

do us harm so summarizing before the

coming or the introduction of

Christianity and the celebration of

Valburg this was a festivity to

celebrate the coming of spring and also

a time to begin a new cycle of farming

and herding

now you have to take in mind

that climate changes a lot and in

ancient times in northern Europe between

winter and spring there wasn't much much

difference it was just the melting of

the snow slowly and animals waking up

from hibernation so as you can see this

celebration is very close to summer so

that was exactly the time our ancestors

our northern ancestors will- would see

the changes in nature and so it was

closer to summer so it was a sort of

spring that they will start their

farming and

the cattle herds would go out there to

into the fields to graze so it's not

like in southern Europe where spring is

just spring and summer is just bloody hot

for instance our Norse ancestors

would not only lit bonfires to keep away

malevolent spirits but also to keep away

wild animals so that the livestock would

not get harmed they would also lit

bonfires to hurry up spring and to purify

nature and they would also mark this day

as the day their are cows their goats

well, their cattle herds would go out

there into the forest at the 1st of May

to begin their summer grazing

nowadays we can still see these pagan

celebrations somehow disguised in the

modern celebration of Walpurgis night in

Sweden for instance people still gather

around bonfires to to dance and to sing

songs to welcome spring people tidy up

their gardens and the leaves and the

branches are a good material to feed the

the bonfires and so are the Christmas

trees that some people keep at home or

keep somewhere to feed the fires at this

very night in Germany this holiday is

still celebrated by dressing in

customs playing pranks on people and

making very loud noises to keep evil at

bay some people still hang blessed

sprigs of foliage in houses and barns to

ward off evil spirits and there are even

those who still leave offerings of bread

spread with butter and honey - to whatever

it is out there that needs to be

appeased

so this harks back to the pagan origins

when people would leave offerings to the

gods and to the ancestors and when I

become a spirit I hope to be in in

Germany during this day because it

sounds delicious and

want to feast like a king

so that's it friends I hope you have enjoyed this

video and this is my little contribution

to the subject all the links to my

social media are down below at the

description thank you so much for

watching see you on the next video and

tack för idag (thank you for today)

a cave

lights on, let's see if we're gonna see something I'm a little afraid something's gonna get at me

there's signs on it, circles. and a tree to snack off

hey guys, it's Fritz and I'm

on some cool dragon tree

if you wanna see how I got here and what's up. tune in and have fun with the video!

we're on our way to living caves

let's see what's expecting us

mademoisell miss is responsible for the tour plan today

as always

get off al the grease spots

okay guys, my drinking bubble leaks

my ass is all wet, my backpack is soaking

I feel like a little monkey

if I hadn't the camera I could jump from tree to tree

eat a banana cause I'm a little monkey

woah guys

what's up here?

I'd say we have a little beauty

in the background

a cave

with a fire place

some braided stuff

looks like a native cave

damn awesome

a cool cave, but I don't have a flashlight

but wait, my phone has

we're going

on exploring tour, lights on

see if we're gonna see something

I'm afraid something's gonna get at me

hope there's not bats in here

awesome, look at this cave

a little steep to sleep in here

but pretty spacious and big

I wonder if it's a natural cave or if they made it

looks like it goes a little further

I'm just gonna sit down a little, ouch my ass

my ass, I'm just wearing thin sports pants

at east flashlight of the phone is with me

I'm gonna go further

down there seem to be more caves

but this one looks pretty awesome with those hangings

yeah up there, I've looked

I can't get in there with my backpack

I'm gonna leave it down here

but I need my phone for the lights

gonna hide it in the gave if a bandit comes

and steals my backpack

I have sports clothes on today

meaning I'll probably cut my knees open

I'm afraid my phone breaks

I know you can barly see me, gotta turn on the light

I'm in the cave and it's very flat, my head hits the ceiling

what I find a little scary is

I'll show you

here are laying some, can you see it?

outch, it's very sharp-edged

this looks like

some

old insect larvae

don't know if they live here or if it's a food depot

but we can go a little more up

ouch ouch ouch, imagine

this is volcano stone

meaning it's super sharp-edged

it goes a little further up there

I think I'm gonna go left

it's pretty senseless to go in here today

because I'm completely laying in here, hurting myself

the exploring urge

is too big

I want to know

how's it like to sit in this cave?

I just hope there's no animal

I hope you hear me, it's more comfy here

those are my favorite

moments

what are you doing in this situation?

making an instagram story for you guys

yeah guys, I'm in the upper cave

back there is my camera, filming for youtube as well

in the background the end of the cave

I'll look if you can see me

it's very flat down there, I craled through it

I'd say I'm psyched to look at this cave

but it's very narrow

this is more comfy and it goes out down there

damn, my phone

oh no, my new iPhone straight against the stone

here are

signs some kinda circles

din't know what's their meaning

shells of some fruit

well they had

a really good weather protection no wind in here and rainproof

here a tree to snack off

I don't know if those are apricots

or almonds, I really don't know guys

the leafs kinda look like it's nuts

what is this? a nut?

fruit? I don't know

I can't tell you, but I'm not gonna try it

a little bit like a jungle

little tendrils, all pretty green

small waterfalls earlier

looks pretty awesome

we're making some height meters

I like this as a building material, something new

in the background, view to the ocean

and I'm almost falling into the cactus

beautiful
