welcome to get indie gaming coming up in
this May edition of our top five
best-looking indie games on Kickstarter
we have a title that's already being
compared to journey a sweet-looking
Metroidvania and one of the most
successfully funded games in recent
years but first let's take a quick look
back at our Kickstarter games from April
man came around the survival game filled
with tough choices in a time of crisis
just made its target of 10,000 euros and
should be out towards the end of the
year the pixel art platformer Eagle
Island was another success story for
April receiving pledges of over 25,000
pounds versus their 20,000 pound target
following a slow start the team behind
the hugely ambitious rise of the King
ended their campaign early and have
since stated the gamers on hold with
their efforts having been moved on to
other projects
sadly the watch maker also fell short of
its funding targets although unlike rise
of the king the devs have vowed to
continue and see out the rest of the
work needed to get it launched finally
for the April recap last month's number
one safe house pushed past its funding
aim of $5,000 and should hit the market
sometime in q4 later this year with that
all covered let's tuck into Mays
best-looking Kickstarter offerings
coming fifth this month from the Madrid
based grub shock games sons of the void
is a 2d space dungeon crawler that puts
the player in charge of saving the
universe from destruction by way of
controlling a three member squad with
two mobile games already under the
team's belt this should be their first
title for the PC and it's expected in
the summer of next year so what makes
this crawler any different to the hoards
of look-alikes already out on the market
well primarily the thing that interests
me the most of that sons of the void
comes from the fact the missions are
procedurally generated
unlike other crawlers this should mean
each and every mission will be different
every time you play it will of course be
interesting to see how grog shot go
ahead and implement this as it seems one
of if not the key feature of the title
on the gameplay front in each mission
you must choose a three members squad
from an overall team of nine each
character or voidling as they're
charmingly called
has different abilities and gameplay
mechanics so you have to choose them
wisely depending on the features and
enemies within a level during your
mission you will only play with one of
these characters but you are able to
swap between them at any given moment
local co-op is to be included which will
allow you and a friend to control two
characters on certain missions stretch
gold above the 45,000 euro target that's
just over $50,000 include an enhanced
soundtrack weapon mixing and a possible
console release this one runs through
until June the 8th
a group of former Lionhead developers
who worked on the fable series have at
the time of publication already broken
through their 30,000 pound goal with the
funding period set to end June 3rd kin
seed is described as a whimsical sandbox
adventure a persistent 2d RPG in which
players make choices that impact
generations to come just like in the
popular farming sim stardew valley
players can spend their days harvesting
crops and raising livestock or perhaps
even managing their own tavern or
apothecary each character you encounter
in the game remembers your deeds and
misdeeds and will eventually age and die
when your own avatar dies you take
control of your children and continue
your story through successive
generations should you the player do
something foolish or harmful you'll find
that the king seeds population has a
memory that extends through generations
making difficulties for the player for
many years to come likewise good deeds
will also be remembered which may help
the player when forming with friendships
romances and generally getting on with
the people who live around them more
action orientated players also won't be
left out with the possibilities of
farming and fishing to name but to the
game will also feature a few grisly
creatures that can be found lurking in
its woods players can choose to take on
these beasts in real-time combat by
doing so perhaps finding some useful
unique goods that will help you get
items that no one else can create kin
seed is currently in the works for PC
although the developers have included a
stretch goal to also bring it to
consoles towards the back end of next
year
and taking third place this month we
have unformed a.2d Metroidvania that set
in ancient china that's inspired by the
horror fiction of HP Lovecraft the game
comes from black fire games with a team
worked on the likes of Rainbow six
Bioshock and far cry on the forum will
offer players a large number of distinct
environments ranging from underground
mines to mountain salt lakes each area
will change dynamically with the dev
saying they plan on implementing puzzle
solving mechanics to further change a
given levels arrangement as for combat
where were likely to find something with
a decent level of challenge that's
heavily influenced by the games from the
souls series creatures will attack in an
unpredictable manner forcing players to
think several steps ahead of every
engagement in order to vanquish their
foes in perhaps an unusual move unformed
will also feature eight to ten secondary
story arcs and sub quests these will be
in addition to the central storyline and
players will acquire the side quests
from NPCs by completing them you're
likely to see a change within the gaming
world or learn even more about the
environment around you these branching
storylines should help round off the
overall experience and enhance the
element of replayability the team here
are looking for $20,000 to complete the
project stretch goals include an
extended world with additional levels
additional controllable players and
animated cutscenes as a huge fan of this
type of game and with this one looking
so down lovely we're very much hoping
unformed makes it past its goals and
hope to see it hit the shelves on the PC
with consoles to follow at some point
next year
despite extensive testing of
communications prior to launch all
contact with xo1 was lost following in
the footsteps of the likes of Marble
Madness Monkey Ball and Rock of Ages xo1
is being billed as a momentum based
exoplanetary exploration game in perhaps
a nod to tiny wings players take control
of a morphing spacecraft that can change
between a smooth ball and a glider on
command by gathering speed on down
slopes players are able to launch their
craft into the air before shifting into
the glider to travel through and explore
the planet
the game features 12 procedurally
generated landscapes each with their own
geology weather systems and sky scrapes
named as one of the best games in show
at rezzed by both Eurogamer and The
Guardian and in some areas people have
hinted that this could be the next
journey the team behind the game are
looking for 35,000 Australian dollars to
help fund its development as it stands
today xo1 has a target launch date of q1
next year and will initially ship on the
PC with consoles to follow
as this video comes to air in one of the
most successful campaigns of recent
times the number one indie game for May
has already received over 2.3 million
dollars and has beaten its funding
target by well over 300% ashes of
creation is an open-world non faction
MMORPG that naturally enough is set
within a fantasy world like other MMOs
the game features player versus player
player versus environmental elements
solo and group quests and other
traditional gameplay elements of the
genre however what sets ashes of
creation apart from other MMOs
it is attitude to world building players
will have a direct impact on how the
world around them changes and evolves
thanks to the game's unique system of
location nodes these nodes are best
thought of in places for settlements and
are seemingly widespread throughout the
world they can be developed as players
participate in normal activities and
quests within what's called their zone
of influence these nodes can grow into
camps villages and at their pinnacle
into vast cities however and in keeping
with real life nothing in ashes of
creation will last forever world events
may trigger horrific monsters that can
attack nodes perhaps your village will
be hit by a natural disaster and then of
course there's a threat posed by other
players every node has the possibility
of being attacked and being destroyed
the notion here being the act of
competing interest that lies in the
heart central to the idea behind the
nodal design in another area of interest
the games economies are said to be
regionalised both in terms of their
markets and resources caravans will be
created and will facilitate the
transport of goods between each region
these caravans are integral parts of
city development as cities require a
massive amount of resources to be able
to upgrade them players will be able to
move their resources and set up shop for
example in another area of the world to
take advantage of new and developing
markets naturally there's an awful lot
more going on here than we can do fair
justice - in the showcase video so for
more information please on head over to
the games website and funding page I'll
leave a link within the video
description perhaps it goes without
saying the ashes of creation we have
game showing an immense amount of
ambition and one that's evidently
resonated with MMO fans globally of
course with such ambition comes a level
of cynicism and hype with which the devs
no doubt will be mindful to manage we
also know the game is set to roll out
with a subscription model in the region
of 15 or so dollars per month this kind
of seems fitting for a game of this type
although again this won't please
everyone
in any case ashes of creation looks to
be one of the most anticipated games of
its type for many years with a shipping
date of late 2018 here's wishing the
team behind it all the best with the
long work ahead and with that thanks for
watching as always we'd love to hear
your thoughts on the games featured here
today so please let us know in the
comments section below we're now
planning and putting together our videos
for June so until next time please have
fun out there
stay safe and see you again soon
