I salute the Confederate flag with affection reverence and undying devotion
to the cause which it stands it's not about kicking the hell out of somebody
it's about teaching the person because violence does nothing but create more
violence but at the same time if somebody can walk away learning
something I'd rather change their mind than change the direction of their teeth
we have four different permits that were issued for people that exercise their
First Amendment rights yeah it's my understanding that some of the permit
requests we received were related to Internet postings having to do with
burning of Confederate flags and desecrating of graves those it appears
that that may simply have been rumors nevertheless we've issued these permits
at the request of the groups and we take the First Amendment very seriously I
swore an oath to the Constitution a long time ago as a Marine and we set off
enemies foreign and domestic and we meant it and we're not here today for
violence we're not here today to be aggressors we're not here today just
stir anything up yes we're wearing equipment that may be scary to some
people that's because we don't know what's going to happen and it's our

to see armed people walking around as if they are protecting us from something

Constitution the culture my fellow American they're everything to me when I
read about the Sons of Confederate Veterans and others who are coming out
is to support the Confederate flag I think it's important that there's
another voice because in my opinion they distort history and I think they they
tell falsehoods about the past they tell falsehoods about the present and whether
it's intentional or not doesn't matter it's inaccurate I think somebody's got
to provide an accurate version somebody's got to tell the truth
