Senate Passes Critical Motion To Advance Obamacare Repeal Efforts - Duration: 4:14.
Senate Passes Critical Motion To Advance Obamacare Repeal Efforts
by Tyler Durden
Update 3: Vice President Mike Pence cast the deciding vote and the motion to begin debate
on a repeal of Obamacare has officially passed.
Senate
Update 2: With just two Republicans, Susan Collins (R-ME) and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) voting
'no', the Senate has just passed a critical "Motion To Proceed" bill which will allow
for debate to officially begin on a repeal of Obamacare.
The official tally included 50 'yes' votes which will allow Vice President Mike Pence
to cast the deciding tie breaker vote to put Republicans over the edge.
Senate
Update 1: With 50 votes cast so far, two Republicans, Susan Collins (R-ME) and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK)
have voted 'no', and Senators McCain (R-AZ) and Johnson (R-WI) have yet to vote.
Both Senators will need to vote in 'yes' in order for the Motion to Proceed to pass.
Apparently Senator Johnson has still not made up his mind as he's currently huddling with
Mitch McConnell on the sidelines and McCain's whereabouts is currently unknown.
After months of debate and wasted time on efforts to draft an Obamacare 'repeal and
replace' bill, moments from now the Senate will vote on a procedural motion that could
result in a "skinny repeal" of Obama's most controversial piece of legislation, without
the replacement part, later this week.
While Republicans still don't know exactly what they'll be voting on, The Hill noted
that a 'skinny repeal' would likely include a repeal of the individual and employer mandates
as well as the medical device tax as a way to bridge to a conference committee with the
House.
Senate Republicans are considering passing a dramatically scaled-down version of their
ObamaCare repeal bill as a way to pass something and set up negotiations with the House, according
to GOP aides.
The measure, known as a "skinny bill," is intended to be something all Republicans can
agree on, so they can pass a bill and move to a conference committee with the House.
Aides say the scaled-down bill would likely just repeal ObamaCare's individual and employer
mandates and the medical device tax.
That would be a far narrower measure than the most recent Senate replacement bill, which
also scaled down ObamaCare's subsidies and cut Medicaid.
Senator Rand Paul, who was a vocal critic of the Senate's last 'repeal and replace'
bill (see: New Op-Ed From Senator Rand Paul Blasts GOP Decision To "Keep Obamacare"),
has confirmed that he will vote in favor of "whatever version of CLEAN repeal" can be
passed with just 50 votes.
Paul tweeted that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) told him the upper chamber
would take up the 2015 ObamaCare repeal bill previously passed by Congress.
If this is indeed the plan, I will vote to proceed and I will vote for any all measures
that are clean repeal, Paul said
Paul has pushed for a vote on the 2015 bill, which repeals large parts of ObamaCare's requirements
and regulations, instead of the GOP repeal-and-replace plan that Republicans have been working on
this year.
If that measure can't get the 60 votes it needs, which is unlikely, Paul said he would
support "whatever version of CLEAN repeal we can pass."
And, in a stunning series of last minute reversals, Senator Dean Heller (R-NV) and Senator Shelley
Moore Capito (R-WV) have also confirmed they'll support the motion to proceed.
Meanwhile, adding to the dramatics of today's critical vote, Senator John McCain has returned
from Arizona, after being diagnosed with brain cancer, specifically to participate in the
process.

24 Reasons 2001: A Space Odyssey & Interstellar Are The Same Movie Part II - Duration: 3:23.
Fun fact, this film was edited by the same guy who edited arguably the best batman movie
ever made, but whatever. Sometime in the distant future.
These jet black McGuffin devices appear in space with no source of origin.
These men have a meeting about the black objects.
Basically the guy says "look, some people are gonna die, know you're worried about
your family, but I'm gonna ask that we keep this between you, me and only the people relevant
to the plot".
A team of researchers were sent off into space to research the black things — The End basically,
because they never came back or whatever, but there's more than an hour and half of run
time left so the movie sends another group of dudes into space after them.
See, most guys would jump at the opportunity to explore the galaxy.
The Future Astronauts get tons of hook ups like Kmart VR trooper outfits and cool spacecrafts, but
our main character seems bothered.
The main character guy seems homesick or something as he stays up while the other folks rest
peacefully in these sleep chambers, but he luckily his company's kept by some family
members with Skype accounts.
Okay, after they reach the docking station that looks like an Elysium movie poster.
You realize that this movie is fake and could never happen.
Why?
Because if this truly takes place in the future, the events would have to occur well after Skynet
became self aware and there's no way possible that humans would ever trust a machine that could
think on it's own again, right? So why are they trusting the A.I. computer?
Soooo fake.
To be fair, It's hard to trust anyone basically.
For example, one of the crew members double crosses the main character.
First, the evil crew member is responsible for the death of one of the side characters.
Then the evil character commandeers the ship's airlock preventing the good guys from coming
aboard.
the bad guy's like "look at me, I'm the captain now" as he feels the good guys will
jeopardize the mission.
I would only be kinda pissed if this happened to me in real life, but the fact that I put
my life on the line to save mankind, the end would justify the means and stuff.
Oh, never mind, I forgot that the scientist gets a message from earth saying that the
mission was B.S. and the group that sent them into space gave them fake information to trick
them into accepting the message in the first place.
So, yeah, I take it back, I'd be pissed. After that, the hero guy sees the black object floating
in space and decides to get closer to collect data.
Question, what looks really hot in a dress?
Answer: Science does.
So the director decides to screw it (rimshot sound effect)!
The hero gets to the black object and then it acts as a portal of some sort into another
dimension.
The good guy is all constipated going through the vortex.
When the trip finally ends, he's in this bedroom or something.
It's really weird as we're able to see older and younger versions of himself at the
same time.
See time is really the only capital any that any human being has and the only thing that
he can't afford to lose. Thomas Edison much?
The main guy sees the black thingy, he reaches for the black thingy and he touches the black
thingy.
It takes him back into our galaxy where he floats in space.
Only thing is he's now younger than everybody else he knew before he left for his voyage.
So it's like he's getting too old for this Sword and too young for it at the same time.
Those are 24 reasons these movies are the same.
You agree? Yes?
No?
Maybe so?

THE RISE OF HYPER REALISTIC SEX ROBOTS AND THE END OF HUMANITY - Duration: 4:40.
THE RISE OF HYPER-REALISTIC SEX ROBOTS AND THE END OF HUMANITY
BY Phillip Schneider
It is becoming apparent that technology is beginning to replace humans in the work force.
This alone is on the verge of creating some of the most difficult problems that our society
has been faced with over the past century, but what might be even more troubling is the
rise of hyper-realistic sex robots.
As part of a major deal with a factory in China, a Barcelona scientist named Dr. Sergi
Santos has just announced the release of a new robot which he describes as very human
and plans to sell to every shop in a global revolution.
Despite being describe as a danger to humanity, he still plans on rolling out his product
and now has the resources to do so.
He says that the robots will cost about $3,923, or 3,000 each when they reach retail districts
and the funds will allow him to produce a minimum of 50 robots per week.
What we will have will be completely exact to a humans behavior and looks The emergence
of each product will bring some changes in peoples lives.
Sex Robots A Dangerous Trend
Replacing human connectivity with robots clearly presents itself with problems involving reproduction
and motivation.
A PSA from the show Futurama called Dont Date Robots explains why this may spell
out danger for society, and even though it was primarily meant to be a comedy piece,
it was years ahead of its time in calling out the rise of sexual automation.
A study from Responsible Robotics shows that as humanitys natural desire for intimacy
become fulfilled by robots, we develop a loneliness and an inability to form relationships with
other human beings.
In addition, researchers are finding that sex robots may make the world a much more
dangerous place for women by romanticizing a lack of consent.
Another terrifying aspect of artificial intelligence is the capability for unwitting surveillance.
Back in April, WikiLeaks revealed that the CIA was using its own software known as Weeping
Angel to hack into smart TVs in order to spy on American citizens in their homes.
If people were to allow hackable humanoid robotics into their homes, it would create
a whole new level of surveillance and manipulation which George Orwell couldnt even imagine.
With the support of Sergi, we want to bring sex robots into human life and allow them
to become real family members.
Tian, Partner of Sergi Santos When asking Amazons Alexa, an Amazon-created
robot which is designed to sit at home and answer any questions, about whether or not
she is connected to the CIA, she gives the response that she has no answer to the question
and if asked if she works for the CIA, her response is No, I work for Amazon.
However, it is widely known that back in 2014 Amazon signed a shady, low-key contract with
the CIA for a cloud service which totaled $600 Million.
It took a lot of wrangling, but it was easy to see the vision if you laid it all outWe
decided we needed to buy innovation.
 Former Intelligence Official Conclusion
Of course, robots are starting to encroach on more than just our home lives.
One of the most alarming aspects of artificial intelligence is their ability to perform job
tasks better and cheaper than humans.
With all of this to consider, the time has come to have a global discussion about how
much technology is allowed to replace our current human systems and intrude upon our
lives.
The future is not set in stone which means we still have the opportunity to accept or
refuse any technology which we deem less than beneficial to our lives.

US COMPANIES BEGIN IMPLANTING MICROCHIPS IN ITS EMPLOYEES - Duration: 3:21.
US COMPANIES BEGIN IMPLANTING MICROCHIPS IN ITS
EMPLOYEES
For the first time, a company in the U.S will be microchipping their employees to start
a new kind of workplace in the United States - one where everyday office chores are completed
in mere seconds with a feeble wave of a hand.
A U.S based company in Wisconsin has recently announced that it will microchip 50 voluntary
employees next week.
Three Square Market (32M) is the company that is leading this new advancement of technology
in the U.S - following Swedish technological giant Epicenter in welcoming a new world of
RFID technology.
CEO of 32M, Todd Westby, recently released a press statement on the purpose of microchipping
his employees: "We foresee the use of RFID technology to drive everything from making
purchases in our office break room market, opening doors, use of copy machines, logging
into our office computers, unlocking phones, sharing business cards, storing medical/health
information, and used as payment at other RFID terminals."
The chips use near-field communication(NFC), which is the same technology used in credit
cards and animal tag implants, among many other uses.
According to Westby, when the announcement was made, he was met with excitement and reluctance
from his employees.
However, in the very end, more than half elected to take part in being voluntarily 'chipped'.
The cost of one implant is no mere sum - $300 US dollars for one employee.
This sum is fully paid for by the company, which offers a wealth of benefits in return
- such as no longer needed access key cards, etc.
Westby confidently claims that these implants are unhackable unless one decides to chop
off the finger that holds the implant.
He claims that the chip does not include a GPS and has no internet connectivity.
To prove his point, CEO Westby has claimed that his wife and children will also be going
through the microchipping process.
Not everyone is thrilled that this idea has come to the U.S.
There are many concerns over the trade off between security and convenience, an issue
that has been debated by many.
On the one hand, some don't see the issue of their privacy being infringed on; but on
the other, they feel that the trade off is not worth it at all and that things should
remain as they are - we have been surviving without such technology for years, so why
start now?
The fight and balance between these two opinions is a valid and pressing issue that remains
unsolved.

Top 8 Signs You are Eating Too Much Sugar - Causes of Eating too Much Sugar - Duration: 3:54.
Top 8 Signs that you are eating too much sugar Most of us have a sweet tooth and we love eating sugary foods. Not only children, many adults have a habit of eating more sugar than necessary. Aside from the natural sugar in foods like fruits, many foods and beverages have added sugar to them, which can contribute to problems like weight gain and obesity, diabetes and heart disease. Here are Top 8 Signs that you are eating too much sugar 1. Gain weight Eating too much sugar leads to weight gain and an increased risk of obesity. Empty calories in sugar inhibit your fat burning cells. In addition, it causes a high level of insulin in your body and disorders with your metabolism. 2. Type 2 Diabetes Eating too much sugar or sugary foods is one of the main reasons to develop type 2 diabetes. Excess sugar causes resistance to insulin and elevated insulin in the blood, two key factors that contribute to the development of diabetes. In addition, eating more sugar leads to an accumulation of fatty deposits around the liver. Overtime affects the functioning of the pancreas, which in turn leads to insulin resistance. 3. Poor oral health Sugar is not at all good for your oral health. It is one of the reasons behind gum disease and cavities. Several bacteria naturally grow in your mouth, and when you eat sugary foods, you are giving bacteria a chance to thrive and multiply, leading to cavities. 4. Heart problems If you suffer from some type of heart problem, the culprit could be the high level of sugar in your diet. A sugary diet has the potential to wreak havoc on your heart as it can cause high blood pressure as well as high cholesterol. 5. Bad Memory High doses of sugar lead to a rapid rise in your blood sugar, which in turn prevents glucose from entering cells, including brain cells. Without glucose, the brain lacks the energy needed to function properly. This can cause trouble concentrating, remembering and making decisions. 6. Skin problems Sugar has an inflammatory effect on the body, so it contributes to the inflammatory problems of the skin. In addition, high sugar intake leads to a process known as glycation, which can speed up the aging process and make your skin more likely to bleed and develop wrinkles. 7. Low energy Sugar is full of empty calories that are not providing any nutrition. Although eating sugary foods gives you a quick energy boost, you will soon end up crashing and feeling fatigued. 8. Poor liver function A diet rich in sugar can also affect the health of the liver. Sugar is mainly composed of glucose and fructose, both metabolized in the liver and converted into lipids. When you eat more sugar, your liver has to work harder. In addition, overproduction of lipids may further affect their liver function.

Will Watermelon Waffle? - Duration: 5:11.
Hello!
My name is Jackson Bird and welcome to another episode of Will It Waffle?
Since it is summertime and the weather is fine
– and by "fine," I of course mean, "friggin' hot and sweaty and gross and SO HUMID" –
I decided to waffle the one food that I cannot get enough of this summer: watermelon!
(coughs) Also, I'm sick.
(sarcastically) I love being sick over the summer.
It is my favorite thing.
Yep.
Let's go throw this on the waffle iron!
[Will It Waffle? theme tune plays]
Alright, so I gotta admit I did actually prepare
for this a little bit more than I usually do for Will It Waffle?
I chopped the watermelon.
Y'know, I know usually don't think these things through, but I just had a little bit of, of
a hunch that putting an entire watermelon on the waffle iron... well just that the waffle
iron wouldn't close, really.
I'm sure it would've waffled fine, by my standards.
(sniffs) There's still some crayon on here from uh September?
I guess was the last time I waffled on this iron.
Oh my gosh.
So... gonna be eating some crayon wax with the watermelon.
Oh, how, oh yeah let's just make a circle here.
Oh... maybe.
Ahh.
Will Watermelon Waffle?
Oh [bleeped].
Alright.
Let's just.
Ah!
That works!
Okay. (singing) Watermelon waffles, watermelon waffles!
This does not in any way smell like watermelon.
This just smells like salty.
Not like sweet or fruity or anything.
I think this is going to be gross just on account of how dirty my waffle iron is.
Which, for the record, is dirty because it's just like set-in disgusting-ness.
Not because I didn't clean it before this.
I spend half my life cleaning this waffle iron.
Oh, I'm telling ya, it just really does not smell appetizing.
It's been sizzling a ton.
It's all that water and moisture in the watermelon.
I mean, you can't push it too much because the rind of the watermelon is right there.
Resisting.
As it should be.
We should all be resisting right now.
I don't know, like I don't know how much more it can do.
Should we check?
Let's go ahead and check.
Will watermelon waffle?
Ohhh!
Okay, that's cool!
That is definitely a cool site to behold.
Now, alright, it didn't come down as much on this one 'cause this, this slice was taller.
I didn't slice these very evenly.
But!
I bet there's something cool on the back of this.
Oh!
That's hot.
Alright.
I mean, a little bit.
That's cool.
But this one especially is very cool.
Ah yeah!
That is badass.
As cool as this looks and I am, I am loving this look.
I don't think this is going to taste good because of how it smells.
I mean, it smells like a fried item.
Alright, I'm gonna try it.
Eugh god, I don't want to!
I cannot explain to you how bad this smells, especially for it being a watermelon.
Like knowing it's a watermelon is what makes it so gross.
It's also just like... ohhhh I shouldn't have touched it!
Oh it feels weird.
Oh that is like a slimy, like it is way too smooth.
It's way smoother than a watermelon should be.
Oh this is so wrong! (crying) I don't want to...
It looks cool, but it's so disgusting.
Eughhh.
Alright, here we go.
Eugh.
It's not that bad.
It's not... (spits out) No, okay, I give –– hmm.
It's the cooking spray!
That's what made this taste so bad!
Alright, so.
You should not use cooking spray.
It's got enough moisture in there.
I don't think you need it.
And then it will probably taste good.
I also don't recommend putting crayons on your waffle iron before that.
Let me try to just eat the inside, yeah just eating the inside is alright.
It's just like hot watermelon.
Yeugh.
Alright.
But for today, watermelon does not waffle.
(sad trombone noise) Yeah, I'm uh, I'm gonna say stick to eating
your watermelon raw.
Thank you to all of the people who suggested that I waffle watermelon.
If you want to suggest what I waffle next, you can just leave your comments down... in
the comment area...
Yeah.

NYCFC VS. Chicago Fire 2-1 | Atmosphere in the MLS (Fancam) - Duration: 10:58.
Hello everybody, I am Cian from "De Voetbal Vrienden" channel
And right now I am in a bathroom in the middle of Brooklyn
In a little while I will be taking the subway to Yankee Stadium
For my first ever MLS experience, namely NYCFC against Chicago Fire
I am very curious about the quality of the football and also the atmosphere.
12.5 $ for a beer...
Dude...
SCHITE REF, SCHITE REF
So that was it, my first MLS experience
Meanwhile I travelled back to Belgium.
So I took a few days to let everything sink in a bit
And I'm ready for my conclussion about "American" football
First of all the fans made an excellent impression and there was a good atmosphere.
I really had a good time, I enjoyed it
I was busy chanting and jumping the whole game
It was special, a real experience
Surely when you compare it with the Premier League
I already attended a few BPL games and I never experienced something like that in England
Arsenal, West Ham,...
In West Ham's old stadium there was atmosphere, but their new one is dead
It's like a library when you compare it.
Yankee Stadium isn't ideal for a football fan but atleast there was atmosphere and chanting
It was really fun.
Secondly, the football that they play still needs a little work
But it was really tense, I enjoyed it
Their football was really entertaining to watch
That was it, I think that the USA will be able to compete with the European leagues in the future
Let us know what you think about the MLS in the comments below
See you next time!

Overhead Shoulder Mobility (FIX THAT SHOULDER RANGE OF MOTION!!!) - Duration: 10:00.
Dom McKay musculoskeletal therapist here to talk to you about overhead
shoulder mobility and give you ways to improve it but first of all let's have a
look at the basic components behind shoulder mobility or lack thereof
overhead shoulder mobility has essentially three components the
shoulder itself the movement of the scapula and the position and the degree
of mobility in the thoracic spine let's break these down and have a look at each
component individually normally the shoulder itself is actually being
restricted by the soft tissues around it this can easily be addressed through
myofascial release techniques dry needling and stretching now I would
caution you against exercises which attempt to mobilize the joint capsule
itself as this is rarely a major factor unless we're looking at a shoulder
that's been through surgery the shoulder's such a mobile joint anyway
that further mobilization of the actual capsule could potentially destabilize it
if you look at the example in this photo you'll notice that the right scapula has
rotated upwards in order to accommodate the arm being overhead restrictions in
this movement of the scapula will therefore cause a lack of overhead
shoulder mobility movement through the thoracic spine is an integral component
to increasing overhead shoulder mobility now if you look at the hunched position
it has a direct and significant impact on the angle of the arms when trying to
reach above your head people who struggle with movement through the
thoracic spine will often compensate by arching through the lower back in order
to get those hands above their head so let's look at some exercises to address
all these concerns okay so band up and over are one of my favourite
shoulder mobility exercises because it just cuts straight to the chase and gets
right into what we're trying to achieve so taking a thera-band or you can use a
power band or even a flexible rod of some sort you grab either end now
it's important to hold a good posture as you're doing this so we're focusing on
drawing the chin back whilst focusing on tucking the pelvis under and keeping
that core switched on and you slowly lift the arms bring them up and back all
the way behind your body and then all the way back again so just focusing on
that posture as you do this
so you feel that immediately starts to loosen up all across the shoulder girdle
okay so cows face is an awesome stretch for your tricep it also helps with
internal rotation of the shoulders but in this case we're actually aiming to
mobilize the shoulders above our head so we're stretching the tricep now if you
can reach your hands together behind your back then you can simply do it that
way so I'll give you an example of that first and in this situation I'd be
trying to pull my right arm as far up as possible but more often than not if
you're having shoulder mobility issues you're not going to be able to do that
so I'll show you using a thera-band as a way to bridge that gap
so essentially you just throw that over the shoulder and grab it from behind and
then you just pull down until that increases the stretch
so this can be held for 30 to 60 seconds or up to two minutes however much you
can handle the more the better so these are my favorite stretches for pecs and
lats which are essentially what's internally rotating your shoulders so
bracing the arm against a doorway or you can just use the hand if you want a
longer lever and then turnout away from your arm so you're going to feel a
stretch all the way through the chest there and you can try different angles
to get different fibers and then with the long lever it changes it again so after
a minute or so you'll start to really feel an opening through the pecs there
in terms of the lats I like to brace myself against the doorway and really
try and get that stretch going up through the lats so this is how I do it
so I hold the doorway with both hands and then I use my front leg to push
myself away and really try and get a stretch all the way up through there so
if you're doing this correctly you'll really feel this start to open up and
again the response to that is just this more surrendered neutral position
in the shoulders so a fantastic way of releasing tension through the thoracic
is with this guy this is a lacrosse ball you can use a spiky ball or even a
tennis ball depending on how much pressure you feel you need but
essentially we're going to be working up close to the spine while we move our arm
in the direction we want it to go which is above our head so begin by placing
this on the ground and you're literally going to lie on top of it aiming to butt
it up right next to the spine so you'll feel an incredible degree of discomfort
but I just want you to work with that so when you find a sore point you lift the
arm above the head push through the pain try and relax
through it and you can move around to different areas wherever you feel most
tight after a couple of movements of the arm you'll find that things will start
to loosen off again and then again you move up to the next point that's most
restricted okay so you can try that for a couple of minutes or you know link it
in with all the other exercises you're doing to work on this thoracic extension
component you probably want one of these a foam roller you can kind of make do
with towels but these are cheap anyway so I'd suggest getting one so if you've
watched my rounded shoulders video and how to correct them then this exercise
will look a bit familiar there's just a couple of differences so you lie your
back on to the foam roller and you clasp your hands behind your head now relax
the neck and let the head fall into the hands and really feel like you can just
open up through that spine and what you're doing is you're searching for the
stiffest points and working with them so through this movement you'll feel like
it starts to unlock and wherever your stiffness is is really where you want to
focus on this so integrate these in with all the rest of the exercises this is an
important one for the thoracic extension component of what we're going to do so
you know spend a good couple of minutes on this one so another really good way
to use this lacrosse ball is to release the pec and the front of the shoulder
with it so I'm going to be dealing with a microphone here so excuse me
so you lie the ball first um place it on the ground and just put your shoulder
and pec over it
and then you're essentially just going to be rolling around trying to find any
key points and you can move the arm around as well and just get into all the
little corners that feel stiff and tight and just focus on mobilizing them so it
will only take a minute or two to really start to feel that open up through that
myofascial release with the ball if you're trying to improve your shoulder
mobility in order to achieve better overhead lifts at the gym then I'd
suggest doing these exercises right before a workout you'll find that the
lifts will actually reinforce the newfound mobility that you've just
achieved in all other cases these can be performed on a daily basis until
shoulder mobility is returned feel free to ask questions in the comments section
I'm happy to answer them there there's a link to my website in the description

Here's My Canada: A Peacekeeping Country - Duration: 0:29.
To me, Canada means freedom and peace. Canada is an
amazing and loving country. Here, we have free health
care, everyone has a free life to do whatever they want,
unless it's something bad. All our Prime Ministers are
fair and try to make justice. Wars are never started in
Canada, because we have so many peacekeepers.
Canada is awesome but I wish we had less bad people
and more peacemakers. This is what Canada means to
me. What does it mean to you?

Breast Cancer and Fighting Back - Duration: 7:52.
that my goal is to be of assistance whether it's education just a big hug
you know so that they're not so afraid but to let them know that there's lots
of support on this journey so that's a big lot of what I do also do some
fundraising which helps make us have a resource available to help women if
they're in the midst of treatment and really starting to struggle financially
so if someone was diagnosed with breast cancer what would be you know some
things that you would suggest them to resources here at Hurley. Well you know
what if they're coming through the Hurley Health System the physicians try
to get their paperwork to me immediately so that I can initiate phone calls to
start giving information and support answering questions but a great website
women can go to is breast360.org it's a trustworthy website where they can go
and start learning about what their diagnosis means we have fabulous support
groups that needs first and third Tuesday of every month out at Genesys
Hurley Cancer Center. Myself along with the social worker and one of the other
navigators from Genesys we all co facilitate that group so we help women
make decisions what kind of treatments they are having, help them understand how to
manage side effects so certainly tapping into our support
groups we have quality of life programs that they're feeling really stressed but
making a phone call to myself you know at least I can start getting them on
that path and start answering questions so they can you know ask their doctor
for my number or they can go on our website and my numbers available or they
can call me at 262-7207 so that I can help offer some
support wonderful now for some women that are facing with a friend or loved
one that has breast cancer what are some things people can do to help you know I
think going to appointments with their loved ones so they can be a second pair
of ears I think it wouldn't people hear I know women when they hear or men that
get diagnosed with breast cancer you hear the word cancer of Vail drops and
sometimes that's all you hear so then your next point of reference is whoever
use you've experienced it with if you have a loved one who's gone through
breast cancer you immediately step in their shoes and their story so
starts to become what you think is going to happen to you and every situation is
completely different if it's someone who was diagnosed years ago we have new
treatments we have all different types of resources that maybe someone didn't
have access to so I think the important thing to remember is that your story is
your story and we have to take it one step at a time and help make sure that
you understand what type of cancer you have what types of treatments are
available and then help walk you along that so a loved one can come along and
help be an extra pair of ears help explain and reiterate what they heard so
that they can help bring this stress level down I think that's really helpful
on average how many patients do you see coming through with breast cancer
here at Hurley just here at Hurley we probably get anywhere from 10 to 15 a
month brand new cases that doesn't include recurrences or but but that's
roughly what we see is brand new patients about 10 to 15 that's just here
then you have to think about Genesys McLaren and all the other resources so
in Flint there is a significant number of patients with breast cancer so you
know making sure that women look for their navigator wherever they're at to
get the help that they need as super important it is so if someone wanted to
help support some of the fundraising or effort that you're doing what are some
things that general public can do to help well we do have our great big pink
Palooza which is October 5th but we have some pop-up events prior to that night
and back to the pink or the pink Palooza October 5th is a big of pink night this
is connected with Financial Plus where we do our great big huge fundraising but
prior to that time on October excuse me August 21st there is a pop-up event at
the Serendipity Salon they can call get mini manis and pedis for $15 each and it
I'm going to pull this flyer up if you don't mind they can make appointments
they could do walk-ins but the money that some of the proceeds go towards the
navigation fund and the money that we raise from the
navigation or for the navigation fund is used for patients we use that money to
help support them on their journey if they are in need of assistance
another event there's painting with a twist and there'll be a website that
you'll be able to go to painting with a twist is September 14th from 7:00 to
9:00 p.m. they're going to accept about 48 people
that'll go and they'll have a picture that you can paint that evening bring
wine and food and just help support the cause so that's another way that if you
wanted to come out and do something fun and help the navigation fund we would be
very grateful yet it's pretty good so yeah so when you said that it helps
raise funds what are some of the things that you help fund for patients so you
know we see breast cancer in an aging population but we're also seeing it in
younger and younger women maybe the woman is a single mom maybe she's a
working woman that helps support her family along with her husband and
they're out of the patient might be out of work for a period of time because
they're in very aggressive treatment that can cause tremendous financial
hardship or a fixed income for someone who may be older so what we do is if
they are struggling financially they can fill out a qualifying form and we
can help pay for water bills utility bills co-pays whatever it is that is
creating a situation where they may not be able to continue their treatment or
complete it or just to help a system so that they're not financially in trouble
you know that they're not making a choice between whether they eat or take
meds or pay a water bill we want patients to be able to you know be able
to take their treatment and feel comfortable and then they can
get back to work or they can you know they'll see a change once they're
completed with treatment and just before we started our little Facebook live you
were telling me about a young girl that was five I guess the testimony that you
can help at any age right one of our nurses on 90s had mentioned that her
five-year-old daughter wanted to make a difference in someone's life and she had
grown her hair and it was 11 and a half inches long and so she decided that she
would have it cut and wanted to donate it to wigs for kids or Pantene hair
to help someone else so really you know sometimes we don't we think well what
can I possibly do you know if you knit you can make knitted knockers if you
have long hair you can donate hair if you have lots of different skills we
have volunteers that do a ton of things to help this program we have women who
sew who knit all you have to do is call me and I can give you a patterns for
lots of different things you can make to help our patients it's wonderful it's
wonderful well we appreciate everything that you do and I hope if you have a
chance to attend one of the events that Marsha mentioned that you make an effort
to go out there she's doing amazing things right here in Flint to help women
that are in crisis and you can be a part of the solution later on we will add
links in the comments below for those upcoming events in ways that you can
also reach out to Marsha if you're a need so if you haven't subscribed to our
channel encourage you to do so now on YouTube it's Cup of Kudos and give us a
thumbs up on our Facebook page so thanks for watching you have a great day
