Hello everybody my name is Balázs I'm the founder of rhythmbalazs.com and
welcome to today's interview. Today I'm sitting down here with
Christina Castaneda I hope I pronounced your name right, yes you did, okay thank you she's
from Los Angeles she's a wonderful woman she is doing creative work writing,
we are going to talk about business creativity, writing and a lot more, so
Christina thank you for accepting my invitation and welcome to the show.
Thank you for having me I'm excited to be here. Great, how are you today?
I'm good it's a little early here in Los Angeles California
but it's a beautiful Saturday morning.Yeah I get it I'm sorry for waking you up so early.
So my first question would be about that you told me
about that you like writing and you like just sitting down in like a corner you know
and write about anything or it what happened to you and I like to ask you
that how did you find out that you have a natural ability for writing?
Well I had anatural love for writing as far as having a talent for it that's just
something you have to develop just kind of like music how you uh you know you
practiced every day and you develop that you love to do it but you gotta put the
work in right but I always loved I always loved observing people and all
the crazy things that they do and I always loved putting together stories
even when I was a kid I would always like have a notebook and write little
stories and I would be kind of shy about it I wouldn't want to let anybody see it
but I always really loved doing it and you know everything from just not just
stories but like poetry anything so I always knew that I wanted to do it and
I would even as a kid just sit outside all summer day long and just write my little notebooks.
So were never forced to do it you just do it
naturally and it's grew into this whole thing where you are now working at a
company doing a job what's normally done by a whole whole lot of people you know
what I'm saying. Well the job is hard becasuse the job will take the fun out of
it because there you've got a right marketing copies that actually
the company has to make money right their whole focus is like whatever you
create it has to make us money so that was a hard way to switch to that,
you don't get to be as much fun it's not as much fun it's not creative and it's not
your you try to put your heart in it but sometimes you just can't but I do it
anyway and I was lucky enough to have the whole world where we need content
constantly now so that actually they gave me more opportunity.
Great, and then how do you like do creative stuff within your work I mean so you said you have to
work you have to do what they say so to actually sell some products but you also have to
be creative to get people's attention and to get them to actually sell it
because it goes through like you have to like hook the people in you know yeah
well it definitely has to be creative with your words you have to make
everything short typed and sometimes we try to look for puns we try to make it
funny anything that's just grab hook and
tease is what I always say but what we always have to anticipate what people
are going to do next what are they going to buy next what's
the next big thing that they're looking for we have to look for trends just like
any company does and that's really what helps us we have to like writers
understand human behavior I say that all the time.Thats how we show characters. Yeah I love that.
and we have to anticipate oh my god like what's happening like what would make
them push what would make them click on that Buy Now button like what would make
them do it or that conversion rate and figuring about figuring that out every
single day is a challenge because it's always different. Sure, you know I also
created personal I like to time to view myself as a creative person but I'm
interested like what does creativity mean to you? As if it's a like you have to
describe it to someone what is creativity? It's a
process I would say it's more of like this mindset that you've got to get into
because you're always not hitting a wall at some point you're just thinking oh my
god why can't I think of something different and that's that.
I think it's that process where you pass that block and come up with something
great and it's that process where you're struggling or you're just
thinking it's terrible or maybe you're thinking it's awesome and then
you're thinking it's terrible yeah I can feel that totally that happened to
us like writing this song listening to it the next day and it's like oh it was
better yesterday you know but yeah I get it it's a process true totally and I
mean have you had like some phases in the creativity where you felt like you're stuck?
All the time every single every single time, and what do you do?
well first off before I sit down and write or before I sit down even when
we're working on the business I try to outline like kind of what I want to do
and then when I sit down I try to push through it that usually helps but there
sometimes where like okay this isn't working what am I going to do that's
when I'm really stuck and I you know I purposely tell myself
don't get up don't get up for my computer don't go take a walk don't go
for a workout don't take a shower figure it out just sit still and figure it out
and usually do come up with a solution but don't procrastinate that's the worst
because then you lose the idea forever it's just like out of your mind it's
gone and then you don't end up solving the problem so no matter what just kind
of sit there to figure it out and you will uh you know you might even come up
with the worst possible idea like something that would just like never work this is so
stupid try it what else have you got to lose
and sometimes you make it to work so I that's the only way to really get
through it. Sure you know my take on it is when something is not going the way
it's supposed to and I'm like sitting there and just waiting
sometimes it's I don't consider it as procrastination it's just a refreshing
my state you know, you have to be in a good state you know where you feel good
energetic and it helps me a lot so I prefer you know sometimes take a shower go to
gym just for an hour just to do something different she enough to you know to get into
different headspace that can sometimes also helps. Do you consider this as
procrastination so you don't do it just bust through and sit down until you're
done or what do you do? Yeah, no I bust through because I just know if I take a walk just because
I have kids and everything and then if I if they know if they see me get up from
my computer they'll start like talking in my face then
like I'm never getting it done. okay. So but that says that's
what happens for me you might not have that situation so you could probably go
and like you said clear your mind a little bit if you need to, plus with music
your process for music might be a little different like your fingers might need a
rest your hands my wrists your drummer you might need a rest
Yeah sure, but I mean I do also creative stuff I'm creating content I'm creating
videos and titles writing copy something similar sometimes what you do
so it's just like, and the inspiration is not coming just right I
need to get to like a different environment it helps me a lot so I mean
Do you have some tips for others who have the same kind of issues how they can
improve? Well it's just practice every single day half the stuff that you
create you might not ever use but if you see it in your mind like a movie like
you're like oh that's awesome that can work out right it down you just got to try it
you know and if it works it doesn't I can't have any how many videos I've had
that just didn't come to life it just didn't actually work or how many pages I
have that just didn't work you just got to keep trying it and it's just practice over
and over and over and then you'll get the brilliant idea you'll see thats why
so just all I try to say is that you get to do it daily you get to fall in love with
it the more you doing the more you will fall in love with it whatever it is that
you do whether it's working a business creating content creating content
actually a lot of fun and more it's like I know a lot of people are like oh it's
such a chore but that's what I do I help people come up with ideas and then I
help them focus strategically to where they can share it and it's not burning
them out is not overwhelming and people get to know who you are so they can
write about. So thats what I would say. it's great!
actually we were, you were mentioning that when you are creating something for
maybe a company a headline or a title that do you have a process that you go
through all the time or just totally random depending on the product or what
do you do how do you come up with these things? Well, you got to know your
product and usually it's not just a product it's usually when we're
interviewing someone or sharing a success story or
broadcasting someone like we do a lot of broadcasting so I have to know a lot
about them and what they're talking about so pretty much you just really got
it yeah you should know your shit honestly before you start and then yeah and then
when you come up with a headline I usually start with something that's
terrible and then I rewrite it several different
ways to where it sounds a little bit better and then we narrow it down to three and
then the boss picks one that she really likes that that's really how I do it
because like I said I even though I'm a writer even though I'm a creator I get
to send messages out, my hands get slapped all the time, no do it this way do it this
way no matter how much how professional you are it still happens so that's
that's our process so I come up with at least 20 headlines for one like podcast
so wow, yeah and that's just the way it works well similar or I'll swhich a few words
about to make it sound better but they're all pretty they're all pretty
similar so it's not like a thinking like thinking too much like too many
different things towards all over the place it's very focused and that's
what really helps, the more you stay focused on what is the part of what
you're trying to broadcast what you trying to talk about that really helps
so you just know shit and then have a lot of possibilities. Yes so you can choose from
I like that you mentioned focus because it is sometimes you know hard that lot of
distractions you know social media and all this stuff I mean it's awesome so
what I want to ask you about is what is your mission for the future how can you
further develop your skills and maybe help others to be better in this field?
I want people to really love sharing who they are and also help them with their
business and I want to always be writing like that is the one thing I always
wanted you to hopefully the rest of my life is to be able to write some books
because there's nothing better than having a complete finished work and it
goes out to people and they're inspired by it
everyone has a different point of view from it or a different interpretation of
it which is really cool that you're able to do all those things for all those
different things for so many people and what else would I like to do? I want to
definitely become a leader in the industry
you know the content never stays the same it really changes fast like things
don't work we have to think can these be the big platforms anymore
and it's exciting because it keeps thinking for to keeps you thinking ahead
of the game and that skill is so important right so I I that's one thing
that I really love and that's what challenges me so I want to definitely be
a leader in the industry and like let's produce the next big wave of content and
how like people share and people talk about a story so that that to
me is really exciting right now you can obviously see people like Gary Vee who
is at the front of it, so we'll see who is next or maybe who will stay on top
you don't know but that kind of energy and that kind of like inspiration for
people, that is like what I live for and it's just helping people that's really
all it is you're helping people giving value to them so there's nothing better
than that right?! Yeah that's great! Thank you Christinarista for the
