Double Standard Media Silent When Obama Called Libya a "S Show - Duration: 6:58.

Double Standard: Media Silent When Obama Called Libya a S*** Show

It was the expletive heard round the world: President Trumps alleged decision to call

certain nations s***hole countries including Haiti and Guatemala during a bipartisan

Oval Office conference on immigration reform.

It didnt take long for the liberal media to pounce.

This is CNN Tonight, Im Don Lemon. The president of the United States is racist,

the least trusted anchor at the most trusted name in news began his show Friday. A lot

of us already knew that.

Believe it or not, some other liberal stalwarts were less subtle. What he said was basically

a form of eugenics: a professor on Trumps s**thole countries remarks read Voxs

headline on the matter. Lorella Praeli, the ACLUs director of immigration policy and

campaigns, was even less delicate when it came to her ad hom: President Trump has

been consistently honest about the white nationalism behind his immigration policies.

Pretty damning invective there. However, its worth pointing out that all three of these

institutions, from the venerable to Vox, were around two years ago.

I point that out because thats exactly when former President Obama said something

involving almost the same expletive that Trump used to describe an African nation in chaos

one which the Obama administration likely wasnt totally jazzed about letting immigrants

in from.

The nation was Libya, which came up during a 2016 interview with The Atlantic. The former

president was talking about how the whole thing had gone to pot after Gadhafi had been

deposed.

So we actually executed this plan as well as I could have expected: We got a UN mandate,

we built a coalition, it cost us $1 billion which, when it comes to military operations,

is very cheap, Obama said during the interview.

We averted large-scale civilian casualties, we prevented what almost surely would have

been a prolonged and bloody civil conflict. And despite all that, Libya is a mess.

Do you think President Trump should have made the s***hole remark?

Yes No Enter your email

SUBMIT Completing this poll entitles you to our news

updates free of charge. You may opt out at anytime. You also agree to our Privacy Policy

and Terms of Use. Mess is the presidents diplomatic term;

privately, he calls Libya a s*** show, in part because its subsequently become

an ISIS haven one that he has already targeted with air strikes, The Atlantics

Jeffrey Goldberg noted.

It became a s*** show, Obama believes, for reasons that had less to do with American

incompetence than with the passivity of Americas allies and with the obdurate power of tribalism.

This isnt to criticize Obama for his choice of words, although his strategy in the North

African country left something to be desired. Libya, as a polity, was a s*** show, and the

president duly acknowledged this fact. This deserves a rare plaudit for our former commander

in chief.

As for what Trump said, we can only ascertain that his remarks involved Haiti, El Salvador

and other unspecified African nations. In each of those cases, you may disagree with

the expletive. If youre a liberal, you may think this somehow makes Trump a racist.

However, at least in the two countries we can identify, youre unlikely to book your

next vacation to these feces-burrows, and not without reason.

For those attracted to the charm and squalid danger of the Haiti portrayed in Graham Greenes

The Comedians, rest assured things have somehow managed to get a lot worse in the

intervening years. Decades of ruin under the Duvalier family dictatorship and their tontons

macoutes turned the Caribbean nation into one of the most indigent and defeated places

on earth. Since they were deposed, several earthquakes and a concatenation of corrupt

and inept leaders (who one can safely assume managed to skim off no small amount of skrilla

from disaster relief efforts) have made things no better in Haiti.

This has predictably led to an upsurge in crime in the country. In a 2012 State Department

advisory issued under, for those bad with dates, the Obama administration travelers

were urged not to visit Haiti unless they enjoyed playing roulette with their lives.

US citizens have been victims of violent crime, including murder and kidnapping, predominantly

in the Port-au-Prince area. No one is safe from kidnapping, regardless of occupation,

nationality, race, gender, or age, the advisory read.

Lovely. While El Salvador doesnt quite have any dictator with the depravity factor

of the Duvaliers or many of Haitis other exigencies, that hasnt stopped the country

from being the most violent in the world not currently experiencing a war. Insight Crime

reports the Central American nation reported 5,278 murders in 2016 for a homicide rate

of 81.2 per 100,000. That was actually down from the 104 per 100,000 just the year

before.

And whats responsible for this? Gangs like MS-13, which have terrorized the populace

and cornered the market on human and drug trafficking, extortion and other fun stuff.

Im not quite sure how I feel about presidents calling entire countries s***holes. That said,

Im also not too keen on presidents calling entire countries s*** shows. Yet, Obamas

utterance induced almost total media silence, while the other one caused the country to

ground to a halt and start wringing its hands over a president thats said something racist

for the eleventy-billionth time.

If Barack Obamas State Department can quite rightly point out the rampant criminality

in Haiti, so can Donald Trump. And if Obama can call a country a s*** show, I think s***hole

isnt exactly too far off when were dealing with El Salvador and Haiti.

DIY Scented Candle | The Cynical Crafter - Duration: 2:44.

[BLOWING]

[OPENING MUSIC]

Gey huys, today we'll be making your very own DIY scented candles which are

perfect for those of you who have a nose

Here's what you'll need: some wire, wire cutters, a cotton wick, mason jars which of course were invented by Jackie Mason

olive oil, but not the extra-virgin kind because that's perverse

A number of supposedly relaxing items and things I've been told make fire

This craft will be so good you won't be able to hold a candle to it

Let's get started

First take your wire

Has anybody seen the wire?

Is there anyone here who has seen the wire

I saw the wire and I want to know why none of you have seen the wire?

Take the wire and spiral the end of it to fit your wick

Oh, look it's a swan

Put this around the thing here. Personally I just like bending things

Just like this

Take your mason jar place the wick inside and fill the

jar with olive oil

Olive oil has so many versatile uses like oiling olives

[LAUGH TRACK]

And now you can fill your jar with scented items that will relax and calm you

Or

[RECORD SCRATCH]

We can fill the candle with items that give you anxiety because there's nothing that

cures anxiety like more anxiety

How about some coffee

Mmm mmm. Dark. Bold.

Some sugar, googly eyes, kidney stones, cell phone bill, insects

I can do this I can do this I could do this they're not real they're not real

And of course a reminder of my mother

And a little more olive oil

Ooh, I can smell the anxiety already.

And now all you have to do is light it

And there you

[EXPLOSION]

your very own DIY scented candle perfect to smell for all eternity

So this is it? This is it heaven? It just looks a lot similar to the last place

Devilman Crybaby Series Review - Duration: 6:44.

Akira Toriyama.

Masashi Kishimoto.

Hayao Miyazaki.

You probably know who these people are as they are the men behind the anime and manga

we all know today.

What you may not know is before they made their names known to the anime and manga world,

back in 1970's, one man did made a stamp in that world and he was second only to the God

of Manga himself, Astro Boy creator Osamu Tezuka.

That man is Go Nagai.

Back in the 70's, Nagai was one of the most famous people in the industry thanks to his

many works.

He is most well known as the creator of the series Mazinger Z - the very first Super Robot

manga and anime series that featured a human being piloting a giant robot.

This defined the mecha genre as we know today, with well-known entries like the Gundam franchise,

Gurren Lagann, Voltron, and even American works like Sym-Bionic Titan, Megas XLR, and

Pacific Rim.

But I'm not talking about Mazinger Z here.

What I'll talking is Nagai's OTHER famous work, which he personally considers as his

masterpiece.

That's because the latest adaptation of Nagai's "Devilman" series is now available on Netflix

under the title "Devilman Crybaby".

This anime has created a lot of buzz among critics and anime fans, and even famous Youtuber

PewDiePie sounded off on Devilman Crybaby and that he really liked it.

PewDiePie: *smacks* It's very nice.

It's uh... *smacks* very nice.

The story in Devilman is about Akira Fudo, a naive, wimpy teenager who gets picked on

a lot due to his pure-hearted nature.

Only his classmate and friend Miki Makimura comes to defend him, as he also happens to

be living with her and her family.

One fateful day, Akira is reunited with his childhood friend Ryo Asuka, who comes out

of the blue as the two have not seen each other in years.

Ryo has discovered that the demons of hell are popping up on Earth, masquerading as humans

and are on a killing spree.

Ryo asks Akira for his help in defeating these demons, to which Akira unwittingly agrees.

Turns out that to defeat a demon, a human needs to become one as well.

But not just any human, one with a pure-heart - just like Akira's.

Possessed by the demon Amon, one of the most powerful and ruthless among its kind, Akira

becomes the titular Devilman, a fusion of Amon's demonic powers and Akira's own humanity.

Devilman has a bizarre love-hate relationship among critics and viewers.

This is because Devilman is, and dare I say it, THE most violent, shocking, vile, disturbing,

unsettling work in any anime or manga.

While there have been a lot of other works that contain the same kind of graphic content,

like Attack on Titan, Berserk, Elfen Lied, Tokyo Ghoul, you name it.

Devilman, by comparison, is in an entirely different level.

Either you love what you see in Devilman, or you hate it with such conviction not seen

or heard in other anime or manga.

What I believe as the reason for this bizarre relationship is that the narrative and the

graphic depictions in Devilman serve a very specific purpose.

Nagai was born just one month after the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki near the end of

World War II.

Like many Japanese at that time, Nagai has witnessed the horrors of war even at a young

age.

As anime and manga can be used to show one's expressions through art, Nagai expressed himself

through Devilman as a cautionary tale of Armageddon happening not by the divine or a prophecy

or whatever.

But by the human race killing each other to extinction because they refuse to settle their

differences.

It's a message that, if you do see it in Devilman, is extremely powerful and does hit the viewer

pretty hard.

When you think about it, the current atmosphere we are experiencing today is heavily reflected

upon in Devilman cranked up to beyond extremes.

You get these strong emotional feels after watching works like Your Name, Spirited Away,

Your Lie in April, and others.

But to get that same kind of feeling in Devilman, a HORROR series of all things, is not only

unique and extremely rare, but what makes Devilman, for good or ill, one of the greatest

anime and manga classics of all time.

When Netflix decided to adapt the Devilman manga for their streaming service, Director

Masaaki Yuasa was hired for the job.

Yuasa is well known for his visual style of animation in Tatami Galaxy in 2010, and the

Kickstarter short Kick-Heart in 2013.

Westerners in particular recognize Yuasa's work from the Adventure Time episode "Food

Chain" or the anime Space Dandy that aired on Adult Swim - both released in 2014.

Some were skeptical on how Yuasa's style will blend with the horror themes of Devilman Crybaby,

but the end result turned up way better than expected.

When horror is to be visualized, almost always it is done to shock the viewer.

I'm not an art critic, but with the way Yuasa did with Devilman Crybaby, imagine if Van

Gogh or Picasso do a horror painting in their own style.

It may or may not be disturbing to you, and you may like it or hate it.

But it's still a Van Gogh or Picasso painting, so it's still a win for the artist.

The same case with Yuasa's Devilman.

It's his style all right, and the graphic content is there.

Yet it draws out the emotions out of you positively or negatively.

Yuasa hits that mark really, really good.

I have seen numerous adaptations of Devilman, and yet even though I know what was going

to happen in Devilman Crybaby, it still hits me deep when it did happen.

Never can I recalll any fictional work where I know the spoilers ahead of time, and yet

didn't ruin my experience at all.

It's one of the many testaments to Devilman's legacy.

I also enjoy how Yuasa tweaks the story a bit to set in the present day to suit today's

audience.

And for longtime fans of Devilman, there's even reference to the first animated series

in the 70s by Toei (the same company behind Dragon Ball) where Devilman is depicted as

a superhero of sorts.

Whether you love it or hate it, Devilman Crybaby is by far the closest and best adaptation

of Go Nagai's original manga.

Even if you probably know the entire plot from previous releases, it's presentation

in this version still blows you away, making it a contender for this year's Anime of The

Year, and also an instant classic.

Director Yuasa does justice to the series and shows what makes Devilman a highly regarded

horror series that others pale in comparison.

Just remember that this is NOT something kids or those with weak constitutions should watch.

Fun Fact: despite its graphic content, the original Devilman manga was published in the

70s as a Shonen series, meaning its meant for pre-teen boys.

Fun times.

On a scale of 1 to 5.

I give Devilman Crybaby, a 5 out of 5.
