Reggionarra, can be said in many ways, can be experienced in many ways,
can be told in so many ways.
A name that contains two words:
"Reggio" and "Narra" (to tell a story).
A fantastic binomial because it contains "Reggio" with his people,
its squares and its streets,
that are already a story ...
And then there's "Narra":
Reggio tells a story of itself
through the ancient art of storytelling,
through so many tales that children, parents and teachers
daily weave in our city's educational experience.
Because it's in the squares where people meet each other,
where they talk
and exchange.
Reggionarra is also a metaphor -
metaphor of a city that wants to tell its story with its hundred languages,
in all its forms. And it does so through storytelling
and listening.
Reggionarra is a day, this year it is two days, during which time the city
and the city's busiest , most important places,
courtyards, plazas and gardens,
and also libraries, of course, come alive with stories
and are covered by children and their families,
who are given wide access and a very rich programme.
Reggionarra is a project
that follows throughout the year
the lives of preschools,
children and their families.
Through an initiative like Reggionarra, the city wants to show that
every day it can be a city for children,
for their families.
Contributing for this event to occur are, of course,
the city's entire educational system, our administration,
and many families,
especially the volunteers,
as well as cafes, restaurants
and gathering places .
The Project Reggionarra was born 8 years ago
at a time when we strongly invested
in the need to communicate to the city the experiences that,
stemming from stories in preschools and infant-toddler centers,
are built along the year.
It was born from a project for increasing family participation.
Parents of children in our schools
participated in a training course
sponsored by Istituzione Nidi Scuole dell'Infanzia (Institution of Infant-Toddler Centers and Pre-Schools)
to work and think out what the art of storytelling is.
All parents tell their children stories,
So we are all carriers of narrative knowledge and competence.
It is important that they can put this experience into practice
by becoming storytellers for their children in a situation
of dialogue and listening,
not only in their own homes, but also at schools
and, by extension, the city, as gifts, in exchange.
It is important that this heritage of experience
is not kept exclusively within the homes and schools,
but dialogues with the city.
The city becomes more suitable for children.
Anywhere you go, there are readings, theatrical happenings, manifestations...
It is a good initiative because, in Reggio,
this is an occasion to be on the outside,
because Reggio is not a city with much of a nightlife.
It is important that children have experiences
If we talk about something ...
In this square we see trees
that change throughout the year.
Now, we see them full of leaves, these linden trees.
During the winter, the trees are withered,
they are completely leafless.
For children, it is important
to discover the city through the transformation
of things that change as the year goes by.
It is important that they have contact with what one is talking about.
If we speak of trees, one must take the kids to meet trees.
If we meet, for example,
if we talk of horses, one must go meet real horses
smell the scent, the odor, the color, the length of hair...
This makes the child have an experience,
that can later, via these languages,
the various languages, which may be clay,
graphic arts and photography, as well,
be incorporated into their activities
within infant-toddler centers and preschools.
My first impression of Reggionarra
is that it is an interesting, very well organized initiative.
I came here mainly to see the guys who draw comics
after being briefed by the children.
It is well done, because there's a ton of kids out there...
From preschool, ranging from 3 to 6 years,
I have very fresh memories, some of the most beautiful moments of my life.
I participated many recreational activities, at an avant-garde level,
where children were directly exposed to the world of computers,
digital entertainment and videomaking.
Reggionarra is a time during which the path
linked to creativity
happens in the ateliers.
Our educational system is precisely focused on children's creativity
which is developed and confronts itself
in the ateliers which are in our preschools.
The ateliers' path leads to Reggionarra, which is storytelling,
and puts at the center of the narrative something that we do and have always done:
finding ourselves around stories
told for children
along with children,
is a way to discover an identity as a community.
- Where does this go? - Yes... where, in your opinion?
- Where do you put the tail? Front or back?
- Really, there. Very well.
Because the relationship between people is made up of
of the atmosphere that is created, the looks,
the possibility of observing body language...
It is composed of many issues.
And kids, in this, teach us so many things.
They teach us to recover something that we, in our everyday lives,
tend to put aside or to lose.
- Now ... - The eyes!
- No! Yes?
- The Blackbird lost his eyes, how will he see? Louder!
- The Blackbird lost his eyes, how will he see?
- The other paw. What is your name?
- Francesco, a.k.a. "Franci".
- Classmate? From what class?
- From Freire School. - Freire Infant Toddler Center.
Naturally, the library, is a privileged location
for storytelling, for reading, books...
For this, we participate - our librarians,
particularly those responsible for the Children and Youth Section,
actively participate in the preparation
of this event.
And we open the entire library to the children's assault.
The children can
actually occupy each corner of the library and in every corner of the library
and stumble and fall into our books.
Not only read in books, but they can also build
their own books, writing stories, in a collective, creative environment.
They can also watch the dramatization of their stories.
We have an example right now: in our courtyard, a theatrical group
that is performing
their version of Robin Hood.
This is a mode that appeals greatly,
not only to children, but also to adults,
parents accompanying children
who also participate firsthand in the event itself.
Reggionarra is an example
particularly important that
an identity is something that we built in a day.
Taking pride in our origins,
exactly because we are secure of our origins
We can openly confront others.
Teatro Valli will be a venue in Reggionarra only today.
Tonight there will be a cyclical event,
during which viewers will have the honor, the privilege, the good fortune
to access a theater seen from a different angle.
It's simple spectacle, almost a game.
It develops itself backwards, in the sense that the focal point is in the boxes and not on stage.
These small stages become storytelling niches, where the narrator is inside
and at most six people from the audience may watch the performance.
The stage is a backdrop, no longer where the show takes place.
These cells, forming a "beehive", are very specific and clearly visible.
The idea is to focus the light
on the narrator's face only,
so as to avoid any distraction.
As an actor this will
fix the audience's awareness on the narrator's mouth,
because the expression on his face is enough.
The room lights were dimmed to a very low intensity,
giving off light almost so as to evoke the sea.
giving off light almost so as to evoke the sea.
I remember what Monica (Morini) and Bernardino (Bonzani) imagined and dreamed.
