Just now, I have asked some seniors to sign for me
They said I needed to find someone to do the grilled-chicken dance together.
Would you help me?
Why the grilled-chicken dance?
And why do you need their signatures?
Well, it's just a dance
Why do you have so many questions?
I asked you why
because I don't understand why you need to dance
in order to acquire the seniors' signatures.
It doesn't make sense.
Actually, I think you should…
It doesn't make sense? How?
All we do is just dance.
Why so serious?
If you want to do
you should do it for good reasons
not just do the grilled-chicken dance
to please those seniors.
I think that doesn't make sense.
And what doesn't make sense the most is that
you have to get 1,000 signatures
from the people you can't be bothered to know
It's just some fun activities that the seniors provide for us.
You don't need to read too much into it.
Fun activities?
Without good reasons?
It doesn't make sense anyway.

M1 Finance - Why It's The Best Investing App - Free Trades, No Fees, Partial Shares, IRA & Roth IRA - Duration: 17:34.
hello everyone and thanks for tuning into the financial investor channel my
name is Brent and today we're gonna be covering the topic of signing up for m1
finance so I was looking for a platform that my wife could begin using to create
her Roth IRA I had I wanted to create a retirement account for her so I had
looked at Fidelity vanguard TD Ameritrade Charles Schwab that looked at
my Merrill edge but a lot of them had minimum deposit or they had there were
commissions and you know I was trying to look for the best platform you could buy
ETF say on Vanguard you could buy some Vanguard ETFs free but they do have
expense ratios TD Ameritrade had a variety of like I shares and different
different ETFs but a lot of them had minimum balances
and some of them had fees or expense ratios so I wanted to kind of look
around a little bit further and I waited until M ones finance recently removed
their fee so we will be covering the m1 finance up the add the sign up process
and why I believe m1 finance could be the very best app for new investors
so here we are we're gonna be signing up for our m1 finance now I'm going ahead
and continuing to use the chalkboard background I kind of like this format if
you guys have a preference whether going in the PowerPoint with the white
chalkboard or the power or the whiteboard or going over an article on
my website go ahead and let me know on the comments below
so I'm gonna lift off six reasons or you know this is all information that's on
their website I pulled off the most relevant information to kind of let you
guys take a look at so number one it's a very powerful solution ym1 Finance gives
you the ability to buy partial shares whether you're investing with $100 $500
or $1,000 your hundred dollars could be put towards Amazon Google and say Boeing
all of these companies are priced out over $200 but with a hundred dollars you
could buy partial shares of all three inside your portfolio number two are
still owned number one it's free of commissions and fees that it's you know
similar to Robin Hood Robin Hood has no Commission and when Finance has no
Commission they just got rid of their fees their fees were like 0.25 for the
year if you had less than five thousand dollars invested so 0.25 of a thousand
would be two dollars and fifty cents per year for that thousand or if per quarter
or per month it was like 20 cents per month which would add up to two dollars
and fifty cents over the year they got rid of all that so this means it's a
great platform for new investors beginning with $50 $100 thousand dollars
it doesn't matter because it's completely commission free and you can
buy partial shares number two you can create retirement accounts again I
wanted to create my wife a Roth IRA to begin her investment journey because I
want to tax shelter her capital gains her dividends her interest I don't want
to worry about having to pay taxes on it you know in the following years I don't
want to have to babysit the fund you know I'm gonna try and buy some blue
chip companies that don't have she can buy and hold them for the long
term reinvest money monthly it'll by partial shares it automatically does
rebalancing if we take a look at number five so I wanted to create her Roth IRA
inside a retirement account and when Finance lets me do that number three hey
lets you grow your savings over time because you've created your Roth IRA
this allows you to grow your retirement a lot faster because you're you don't
having to pay taxes on your capital capital gains you're not having to pay
taxes on your dividends you're not having to pay taxes on your interest all
that money is being reinvested back into your Roth IRA and we've never covered
IRAs or Roth IRAs we have covered 401ks and Roth 401 k's i will be making some
videos covering IRAs and Roth IRAs I believe that's a good very good video so
look forward to that number four if you're buying partial shares if you have
a hundred dollars and you are buying three stock with it say you bought
Amazon Google those are both both of those stocks are over $1000 and you
bought Boeing you would buy 33% of Amazon 33% of Google and 34% of Boeing
for a total percentage of a hundred and your hundred dollars would go towards
that money so you don't like thirty three dollars of amazon thirty three
dollars of Google and thirty four dollars of Boeing as you add money into
your portfolio it would automatically rebalance to how you want this specific
account to be balance so if you want 30% of your money
to be in the stock when you put more money into there or if the dividends are
deposited into the em1 account those deposits here go directly they fund the
ax prop under weighted slices so if you're sitting at 34% on Boeing 33 and
33 on Amazon and Google it'll split up between Google and Amazon and then all
three of them will have 34% now and then as you continue to funnel money and/or
if you get any pay dividends that'll continue to kind of increase those PI
levels at the root at the needed levels and it looks like they do some sort of
tax minimization so it uses a long a location strategy when selling
securities to help reduce the amount owed on taxes automatically but I'm
gonna be creating a Roth IRA in an upcoming video and you're gonna see that
whole process and I'm not gonna have to worry about paying taxes on my wife's
account because all of those capital gains all of those dividends and
interest will be taxed sheltered and tell she's 15 and a half or if she wants
to withdraw her contributions that she's made to the Roth IRA she can do that
with no penalties you know it's that no fault to her so broth I arrays you can
always withdraw the money that you've deposited into it that you've
contributed towards it but you cannot pull your capital gains or dividends or
the interest until fifteen and a half without receiving a 10% penalty and you
have to have the account the Roth IRA active at least five years before you're
able to withdraw the capital gains he dividends in the interest that means if
you made it at say fifty six you would have to wait until 60 the minute at
fifty six so you'd have to wait until your
56 you'd have to wait till you're 61 and a half to begin withdrawing those
contributions tax-free or you would have that penalty penalty so that's a very
quick snippet of whatsit you know a Roth IRA and some of the you can always
withdraw your contributions so I think Roth IRAs are amazing so now we're going
to be going over the signup process so I went over to the m1 finance comm website
click on invest now you can see I selected them both the little red icon
there you then enter your email address that whatever your extension is at
gmail.com you then enter your password I use used everyone's fenneis yes this
isn't my real password and then you click sign up once you've done that
you're gonna go through a few screens you're gonna go over what's next you're
gonna start here you're gonna hit continue it's gonna tell you about
building your portfolio it's gonna show you how you can design your portfolio
you can either buy like an ETF that's moderately aggressive so you can buy
like multiple ETFs so this one has moderately aggressive and tech buyers at
number two with Amazon and Facebook and then it kind of continues to you can
choose to slice your m1 expertise designed for specific goals like
retirement or general investing or you can also add any stocks or ET as for the
New York Stock Exchange or the Nasdaq as a slice of your portfolio and in the end
here number five you would end up with your very own personalized portfolio
however you want and you can even add custom pies to it
now let's go ahead and begin building your very own and one portfolio so I've
used them excuse me I've used a platform like this in the past that offered
partial shares it was motive investing but it was super expensive I was paying
$10 a month I mean it's not super expensive it was $10 a month
I could have unlimited trades after our show for $10 a month I could put in if I
wanted to buy partial shares that's how I got started
in the stock market back at 2015 I bought an e-commerce merchant motive
which had a bunch of e-commerce stocks such as Amazon Alibaba and a whole bunch
of other ones so that's how I got started on motive and then I recently
switched over to Robin Hood in 2017 and then over to Merrill edge I'm opening up
and once financed because I think partial shares are great for new
investors because that gives you the ability to invest your full amount that
you're willing to invest into something you know it's not money sitting your
account that you're not able to invest if you have five dollars you can't buy
Ford or Facebook or Amazon because those are way out of your league but with
partial shares you can own a piece of that company and you're not having money
just sitting on the sidelines so next we would hit get started once you've done
that it's gonna go ahead and start you off at your expert PI's now these are
PI's that you can select you can do your general investing which it kind of gives
you a breakdown of what these are considered these are just PI's for the
ideals of who want a broad market exposure at a low cost so this might be
like the S&P 500 ETF sicles / earner income earners we have just stocks and
bonds plan for retirement the hedge fund followers the other strategies they're
responsible investing and we have industries and sectors so you can start
off by using some of their expert PI's or you can take a look at your own PI's
you can go to build your own PI so if you click on your own PI's you can see
that you haven't built any PI's yet but if you click over on funds you can begin
to add different funds your PI so here we have a whole bunch of funds here you
can sort so what it by the minimum or the maximum of the total asset so if
you're looking for an ETF with a very high market cap you could definitely
look for the market cap there and the billions billions would be very nice for
brand new investors you can look for dividend yields so look for dividend
yield ETFs with say a minimum of 2 to 5% to kind of keep it somewhat safe and
then you could look for an expense ratio so a lot of the Vanguard ones they offer
expense ratios a point zero two percent whereas some of the the specific ones to
a specific sector may have higher expense ratios and the point four zeros
or somewhere in that in that range so you can put in a max expense ratio that
you'd like to look for you can also select categories of alternatives asset
allocations bonds commodities currencies equity arab yes equities and in this
industries so you can look for a whole ton of funds on here and that's why i
think it's great you're not just stuck you know it's similar to robin hood you
can buy funds or stocks again but being commission free and being able to buy
partial shares that means that you can put in a hundred dollars and you're
gonna get a hundred dollars of a fund or a hundred dollars of a stock now you can
do the exact same thing over here if you click on stocks you can go over the
exact same thing on the right hand side you can put in your market
capitalization you can put in your p/e ratio your dividend yield so you can
look for a p/e ratio of less than say 20 you can look for a market capitalization
of in the billions you know you want the minimum say 1 billion look for what you
know whatever your preference is in yields again between two and five to
kind of keep it safe and then you could begin to look through each sector and
find stocks that you believe in in each of the sectors that way you're
diversified there's there's so many opinions out there about what's what
level of diversification you should be working with you know some investors out
there they don't believe you know they believe that five to nine Sox is a good
investment no matter how many how much money you have invested whereas others
will say if you have $50,000 or more you know fifteen stocks is good and they
keep them out of 6.6% ratio you know every other investor is like two to four
stalks per ten thousand dollars so it's really up to you as a brand new investor
with any less than say if you're investing fifty five hundred dollars in
your very first year I wouldn't go more than say three to five stocks just to
kind of keep it simple you're getting some diversification I would select
different sectors or better yet you can choose yourself an ETF funds such as the
SPDR which follows the S&P 500 so you know do your research as to what
specific funds you're gonna go with that is up to you guys and of course if you
want to do some research on there they do offer the ability to type in a ticker
symbol they give you the graph view so you can look at the one day five day one
month three months six month one year three year and five year graphs and kind
of show them there's other websites that provide a little bit more information
you can see here the market cap is that two hundred and twenty nine billion this
is Procter & Gamble this is one I don't currently own but I think for my wife I
think it would be a good stock for the long term she's probably gonna be
starting off her Roth IRA just maxing it out earlier this year and getting it
started that way she can begin to get dividends built into the year and
reinvest those dividends that partial shares which would be fully invested in
the stock market and here we can see that they recently took a debt towards
the end of the day so this could be a good opportunity to buy but p/e ratio
shown at the top here dividend yield shows up top we can see that the number
of employees that this company currently has the shares outstanding and their
current earnings per share you can also see the news here I like
this I like that they provide their news hold on once I got the call for is my
okay there we go ahead a coffee stoking over mic off and sinuses so let's see
here so it's pretty reasonable here to do your own kind of research of course
you know I would always recommend doing research on multiple websites and they
do have a pretty decent amount of information such as the p/e ratio the
market cap the dividend yield the 52-week range here so their bottom for
52 weeks is 83 24 they're 52 week high as 94 67 they have the end one year
increase so far like 2017 they went up over 10 percent their three-year
annualized their five-year annualized and a little bit about their company
here and then the news and you can kind of expand this more you can click down
here and see more and you can see a bunch of information you can see that
there recently on the news so I think that's great this is some good
information this is much more information than what prophethood
provides this is more information than what my other investment brokers used to
do with much of investing so this one is definitely one of the better
applications that I've seen that's free commission free and offers you partial
shares it offers you retirement account so I will definitely be signing up for
this account I will be having a video coming up with them and then I will
begin to get it and that's it so I'll be making some videos on that and that'll
be primarily set up for my wife and that is it for this video if you guys found
that entertaining if you also believe that everyone's finance could be one of
the best apps for new investors due to the commission-free the partial shares
the no fees the retirement accounts such as the IRA the Roth IRA and the ability
to begin funding and having all of your money that you're willing to invest

Bag In A Bag: Two Minute Tips with David Bergman - Duration: 2:22.
Hey, I'm photographer David Bergman and
this is Two Minute Tips for AdoramaTV.
Whether you're a pro-photographer with a
lot of gear, or just going on vacation
with a camera or two,
today's tip will help you save your
shoulders and back when traveling on
airplanes. Camera bags we love them.
Many photographers find that we have more
bags than we have cameras. We just seem
to collect them. Now most people carry a
small bag with a camera and just a lens
or two, but it can be a literal pain to
carry that around all the time,
Especially in airports where they're
also a big target for theft. So what I
suggest is to keep your gear in the bag,
but then put that inside of your
carry-on suitcase. That way it's out of
sight from thieves, and you can
comfortably roll your bag until you get
onto the plane. However if you're on a
small plane and have to gate check your
carry-on. What you do is simply take out
your camera bag at the gate, then check
the carry-on while keeping all your
photo gear with you on the plane. If
you're a pro-photographer and travel
with a lot of gear, instead of a small
bag, you probably already use a big
roller for day-to-day use. But I know
mine doesn't fit in the overhead
compartment of most regional planes, and
international airlines can be really
strict when enforcing those size limits!
In that case what I do is pack my gear
into a smaller photo backpack first, and
put that entire thing inside of the
bigger roller at the gate. I just take
out the backpack, and check the empty
roller all by itself. The bag will fit in
the overhead, or under my seat, with no
problem, and when I land at my
destination, I put the bag back into the
roller, and I'm on my way! No matter how
much gear you have taking this extra
step gives you the best of both worlds.
You have a roller for most of your
travels, and can still keep everything
protected when you carry it onto the
plane. Keep your gear with you at all
times, save your back, and travel with
peace of mind no matter
where you are headed

And now he's got a position in his company.
This bar of yours
is so hot.
Your T-shirt is nice.
I know, right?
Ghost Ship?
The seller is handsome.
So I bought it
Bring me there next time.
Sure.
What about you, P'Knot?
Where are you working?
I'm still doing my master degree.
I have to find a topic for my research
It's even more tiring than when I was in undergrad school
I see
What about you, P'Arthit?
Me?
Well, I just got put in a position. And today is my first day.
But I didn't get to be in the Production Department.
I'm in the Procurement Department now.
There's no position available there yet.
I have to wait for a position to be opened
and I transfer to work in the Production Department later
You are lucky, Arthit.
I'm still unemployed.
Why are you being dramatic all of sudden?
Being unemployed is lucky too.
Because owning a bar is so damn tiring. It's so chaotic
I have to do accounting,
fight with the head chef.
You know what?
You are luckier than me
Don't tell me
that you father force you to marry someone.
Marry someone my feet.
I picked the red card.
I have to enlist to military
I have to leave you for military, honey.
Since when I'm your honey.
Just now.
You all are third years now, right?
Have you planned yet?
After the gathering activity is over,
where will you apply for an internship?
Come on, P'Knot.
It's still far ahead
The first semester has just started.
Time flies, you know?
Have a thought about it.
You are third years now.
Trust me, it will come really quick
look at Bright's face, for example
It doesn't take long at all to become like this.
What do you mean?
My face is still bright.
Well, think about it
It's not that serious.
Excuse me, I think I should go home now.
Why?
Tomorrow, I have to buy stuff for the gathering in the morning.
I don't want to go home late.
How do you go home?
Do you want Bright to give you a ride?
(Take her home)
All right. Let me give you a ride. Come on.
It's okay. I can take her home.
I see. Go ahead.
Sawasdee ka.
Bye bye. Take care.
Bright, I'm heading out now.
Okay.
Hold on, P'Arthit.
I have something for you.
You don't like it?
Huh?
No.
But it's not my birthday today.
And it's not any anniversary date.
It's the gift for your first day at work
When you use this pen,
you have me right beside you all the time.
Ew,
don't be cheesy.
Then, give it back to me.
No, no taking back.
You are being stingy too.
That's right. Don't you know?
I know.
I'm your boyfriend
How could I not know?
Come on.
Let's go home.
I have work to do early in the morning tomorrow.
Let me take you to your apartment.
But you have the gathering activity in the morning tomorrow
I'm not tired.
But I worry about you.
Don't overdo your work
Student ID 0206
Come out in the front!
Do you see this gear?

[Eng Sub] Sotus S The Series | EP.1 [4/4] - Duration: 8:54.
How'd it go, newbie?
Is every all right?
Yes.
Khun Paga is a bit strict.
But actually she's a nice person.
I see
Everyone, listen.
You probably got to know Arthit already.
He's a new employee in our department
Well, we got a mix-up this morning
Why don't you introduce yourself to your colleagues again officially?
Go ahead.
Yes.
Sawasdee krap, all of you.
My name is Arthit.
I graduated from SFU with a degree in engineering
Nice to meet you all
I got transferred to take a position here from the Production Department.
Arthit, is your nickname Arthit too?
No,
but my friends like to call me with my real name.
Since you all know him.
Let's have a welcome dinner this evening.
Well, we….
My treat.
…we can't wait to eat with Arthit
What should we have?
How about Shabu?
Som-O.
You are fast in this matter.
All right, then
Give me 30 minutes.
If you don't mind
No problem.
Here.
Enough, P'John
You can tell me if you want something
I grab it for you.
He can get it himself.
Please have a seat, P'Danai.
I'm really sorry to have kept you waiting for me
I was on the phone with my son.
He vented about his university
Is it okay if you don't go have an have dinner with your family?
It's okay now.
My son has moved out and stayed in a dorm near his campus.
It's good for him. He will experience a lot of things his own.
Yes, I agree.
That's why you take us out for dinner.
The thing is
it's been a while that we get to welcome a new employee
Also, you all have been working really hard
So I want to reward you for your hard work.
What are you talking about?
Our work is not that hard, right?
You are scaring N'Arthit
N'Arthit
have you had someone to cook for you yet?
I'm good at cooking, you know?
Well, I…
Hey, P'John.
That's pork is mine.
What?
I saw it was in the pot for a while.
I don't want it to get more shrunken.
It's not gonna shrunken.
I can boil you a new one
I want lean pork.
Thank you.
See you tomorrow morning.
Please take care.
Want to go to a bar together, Som-O?
Hello, Kongpob?
How'd it go?
Your gathering activity was over?
It was over a while ago.
I'm on my way to my dorm.
What about you?
Are you home yet?
Not yet.
I just had dinner with my colleagues
How was your first day in the Procurement Department?
Well…
there were some hectic moments
I feel strange.
I feel like I'm a freshman once again and got scolded by seniors.
What about you?
How is it going?
Are the initiation activities going all right?
The freshmen are fully cooperative.
The numbers of freshmen in the gathering event are higher than previous years
Are you trying to outdo me?
I've got to tell you that being the head hazer is not easy.
And it's just a beginning.
If I can be a good head hazer from the beginning till the end,
Will you have a reward for me?
Seriously,
you always ask for rewards.
Well, let say that I have to think about it
and see if you really pull this duty of head hazer off.
What about the duty of boyfriend?
If I can do this duty well
do you have a reward for me?
About this one,
I have to think about it as well.
For this second reward,
can I have…
a really "good" one?
Kongpob!
Directed by Padung Smajarn / Pongpisit Botsri
Hey, Kong.
You don't go out with P'Arthit today?
No,
he is busy with his thesis.
He probably works until late.
I thought you went out with him
So you could ask him what the hazing team test is about.
Even if I ask,
I'm sure he won't tell me
Trust me.
Okay, then.
I'm going to see May.
Happy Valentine's Day.
Happy Valentine's Day.
I'm going now. See you.
you said you were busy.
I finished it early so that I could see you
I have a gift for you.
I have a gift for you too.
Can I open it now?
No.
Open it when you are in your room
But you can open my gift here
Okay.
Do you want me to wear two watches at the same time?
This one
is mine.
That one is yours.
And for this one,
let's open it when we are in our room.
"I just want to take a photo of you going to work on your first day. When I look back at it, I know that I was with you on your important day."- Kongpob
I want you to join the gathering activity.
Why do we have to join it?
Is there anyone hitting on you at work?
Here's the pen.
It's easier to find a new one.
Where's your name tag?
I forgot to bring it.
You are still the same.
What do you mean?
What are you doing?
No one is looking
If you want to hold my hand
do it when we are back home.

7 monographs EVERY photographer MUST own - Duration: 10:21.
okay so over the last bunch of videos that I've done you guys have seen me
wearing this jacket that Brian Abrams over at Amabilis is making they've got
a Kickstarter going right now also has this awesome hoodie use the Force Luke
well here's the deal this is the last week of the Kickstarter campaign so if
you want one of these you want it to say deeper pixels or whatever it is you're
into now's the time to do it and they even have kind of an end of the campaign
sale going on so I will put a link in the show description go check it out
so Happy New Year it is awesome see you guys back and I've got a couple things
that I want to cover today so let's get started I've got a few really cool
photography books that I want to share with you guys today and so basically
what happened was last year at the end of the year I did a video and it was my
top ten book recommendations this was the end of 2016 and I just because I'd
done a lot of book reviews in videos over the year I decided to kind of
summarize them and kind of get my top picks and most of you guys know I have a
lot of books I buy a lot of books I love photography I love printed material and
it's just something that's very inspiring to me and so this year rolled
around and people started asking me on social if I was gonna do another end of
the year book roundup again and I didn't realize it was a thing but I'm happy to
do it I did by not as many books this year as I did last you because I'm
rapidly running out of space and because the mail you guys send me
I really am tight on space and so just depends on what comes out and how
interested I am in it but I did buy a few that I want to share with you we're
gonna go through these in just a second but one thing I want to mention before
we get started here is something that to me is kind of exciting news I started
The Art of Photography in 2008 that was when I made the first video this year is
2018 I have now been making this show for 10 years which is unbelievable I started
out on iTunes I guess about 2010 or so I put everything on YouTube and I started
producing on both platforms and now I have a Facebook Watch channel it's been
an amazing experience and I try to communicate this to you guys pretty
frequently but this show has changed my life in a very profound way it's an
unusual thing to do for a living I love it
I love
opportunities where I get to meet you guys I love the community that we've
kind of built around this thing and I've had some opportunities to do some
amazing things that I didn't ever think that I would be able to do things like
the Artist Series even like just last month were kind of at the last minute I
ended up just saying I'm going to Arizona I'm gonna do this video that
I've been wanting to do for over a year now and I ended up doing like three
videos out of that and there was a Grand Canyon video and then I did some stuff
in New York and there's some footage that I haven't shown you guys yet from
the New York trip and so there's a lot of opportunity to do some interesting
stuff with the show and because it's the tenth year I want it to be as epic as I
possibly can make it and I just don't want it to be another year I want it to
be something that's really cool and so that's kind of where I am with this and
I don't have anything to announce just yet although I am working on some stuff
that will announce it when the time is right but this does impact the show in
the following way because I will have to move a few things around to make some
other things possible and the big one that gets affected is going to be photo
assignments now we have been doing photo assignments on kind of this weird
schedule where every Monday we're gonna do something with photo assignments so
I'll either give you an assignment or I'm… two weeks or so or a week I'd have a
turnaround time and then I share the work that was submitted with you guys
and the biggest complaint that I get by far from people is its just too short
and it's too fast to turn around and it's also I think been confusing a
little bit in terms of what is the current photo assignment when is the
next one coming out and so I want to make a big change there and I think it's
gonna be a change for the better I'm gonna slow this down we're gonna do
one a month I think that's a much better way of doing it
I think rather than having a whole bunch of photo assignments at the end of the
year I would rather focus on the quality more than the quantity of it so what I'm
gonna do is just do it once a month that way it's easy to remember what's the
photo assignment for February what's the photo assignment for January and it's
just by the month you know when it's gonna be due it's gonna be due at the
end of the month I'll need a day or two to put the video together but you know
when that's coming up you can share your work on social and I'll see it there so
that's the big change that I'm gonna make I just think it's gonna work a lot
better I would like to get your opinion so please leave me a comment on this two
things one does the schedule work for you guys do you think this is a fair
compromise with all this is just going to be a little less frequent work for me
to do like the giving the assignment is not hard but
putting together those videos where I've got to put everybody's names in it and I've made a
couple errors in the past it's it's a lot of work and I think this will just
open it up and it allows us all to focus on the quantity and not the quality plus
it'll give me during the month some other chances to merge other content in
with that too depending on what the subject is so I want to know what you
think of that idea and 2) do you want a photo assignment for January I can do
one but we're already a couple days in it's up to you guys so would you rather
wait and we'll kick it off in February and we'll just do something totally cool
so anyway I would like to hear from you guys on that so let's look at a few book
recommendations I will put a list of everything in the show notes below so if
you're interested in getting one of these they're all in a list together and
you can find them on Amazon but anyway what I'm gonna do here is I'm gonna
start with the color stuff and color photography is a little bit of a stretch
for me because historically my interests and my tastes have always been with
black-and-white photographers but more recently I think this probably started
with a Saul Leiter to a large extent Ernst Hass who is an incredible
photographer had a collection that… actually there were two books that were
released this year this one's called color correction and
the other book is okay it's more of his set photography that he did for movie studios
but color correction is insanely good highly recommended and there's another
color photographer that I start checking out more in-depth as well and I've been
aware of Luigi Ghirri for a long time but Luigi Ghirri a well-known Italian
photographer has a book called Kodachrome this is not a new book this
is an older book I don't know that it's in print and so you could have some
trouble tracking this down but it's worth being patient to check out this
book I actually bought several years ago and I've talked about it a zillion times
on this show but this little trilogy I want to make complete with Sail Leiter's
early color it's still in print if you don't have it it's well worth it and
what's interesting to me and the reason I'm including him in this conversation
is that all three of these photographers they all shot on Kodachrome and this was
pre digital and so there really wasn't a lot of post-processing that was involved
and the interesting thing to me is all three of these people have radically
different styles Ernst Haas' work has this lush feel to it - these deep rich
colors then kind of the opposite would be Luigi Ghirri who works in kind of these
pastels with very minimal compositions and their work looks completely
different even though they were using the same film and then Saul Leiter who
also Kodachrome comes into the picture and
he's got a very different approach to what he does in a very stylized look and
I think there's an important reminder here that we get really involved in the
camera side of things and then also in the post-production side of things
particularly when working with color and I think it's a really wonderful reminder
all three of these photographers to me that there's so much that you can do
they all look different because of their approaches are different the subject
matter is very different the lighting conditions are different and they're
kind of tailored to each individual photographer and that's where your
talent and your sense of style are gonna end up coming from not so much on the
post into things so that's why I wanted to include these three in the color
trilogy here next up is this very thick and very awesome book from probably my
favorite photographer in the history of photography and this is Irving Penn I
have covered Irving Penn a lot on the show before
and there was a book that came out a couple years ago and the exhibition that
I was covering I think was called Beyond Beauty this is even better this is very
much more complete in terms of what was included here this was I don't know that
this was done around a specific show the Met was involved with this but they are
very involved with the Penn Foundation highly recommended is the Irving Penn
Centennial this book was actually sent to me as a gift from Gabriel Wertman and
Gabriel lives in Mexico City I met him when I was down there last year and he
sent this to me I it was actually in the last video I did an unboxing this is
Flor Garduño and she is a wonderful photographer very much in the vein of
Graciela Iturbide her work has a mystical quality with a lot of symbolism
included in it and I had to include this as one of my favorites of this year it's
not one that was on my list to buy it was given to me as a gift and I have
absolutely fallen in love with it there is some amazing work here so once again
Gabriel thank you for sharing this the last two books that I want to share with
you guys these are not yet big-name photographers I think they're extremely
talented they're not done by big publishing houses but you guys send me a
lot of work during the year I've done a lot of mail time shows this year and I
want to recognize two people both these books are available and I will link them
up in the show description but I wanted to give them a shout out because I think
this work to me is extra-special and I've really enjoyed it a lot and the
first one up is Shetland OO which is done by Tom Barr and some of you guys
might remember Tom or recognize him he goes by the name Ootlier in the comments
section he's a hell of a guy and credible photographer this is not
exclusively a photography book Kate Davies wrote the text in here and is a
documentary book on the shetland island wool industry and I think the
photography in here is absolutely outstanding and what I like about this
book is that it is not photography for the sake of showing off photography he
is telling a story he is documenting in here but it is extremely good and Tom
shoots at such a high level and I am really glad that we become friends since
he sent this to me and so Tom I didn't tell you guys that I was gonna be doing
this so special shout out to Tom you guys need to check out Shetland Oo it is
fantastic the second book that I want to recognize was sent to me by Bastiaan Woudt
this is called In Marokko Bastiaan has a very ethereal quality to the work that
he does and this is my other favorite book that was sent in this year I really
enjoyed this as a very dreamlike quality to it a lot of interesting things are
done with focus points and where your eye is supposed to go in the composition
and the work is just beautiful and absolutely outstanding so I want to give
a shout out to Bastian once again too and again both these books are available
I will link them up in the show description
I hope this has provided some inspiration for you guys and this was
kind of my picks for I guess 2017 but we're in to 2018 now that's over with
although I have cool books to draw inspiration from now anyway a lot of
cool stuff coming up this week including this disaster you don't want to miss my
review on the light l16 I will have that out this week I've got a bunch of other
stuff coming up as well love to hear from you please leave a comment and
until the next video Happy New Year and I will see you guys
next time later

How is your first freshmen gathering?
It was okay
Everything went well
No freshmen giving you a headache like I got when I was the head hazer, right?
Do you mean me?
Yeah.
The one and only
Even there is one like that, I'm not afraid.
I went through the extreme test with you already.
Hazing Staff Test.
This is your test.
You must haze me
and I play the role of a freshman.
You may start.
First years!
Where are all your friends?
Why does no one care to answer?
Well then, I'm going to call your ID randomly.
If he or she cannot answer
Everyone here
will get punished.
Student ID 0206
Come out in the front!
Where are all your friends?
I don't know.
How could you not know?
Every question I ask.
You must answer.
Understood?
Understood.
Do you see this gear?
Yes, I do.
This is the gear made for each Engineering year class
If you cannot prove to me that you deserve this gear badge for your year
You might as well walk out of here now
and I won't consider you
as our juniors
Now, answer me, Khun Arthit
If I don't give you this gear,
what are you going to do?
I just take it from you.
Do you think you can just take it from me?
It's no-brainer.
How!?
I just…
make you my wife.
They say, what belongs to your lover is also yours.
If I can make you my wife,
your gear badge is also mine.
Are you sure
you want to do it right here?
Are you ready for it?
Shall we start?
No no no no.
Stop it right there.
What's so funny?
Who said you could talk to your friends?!
Khun Arthit
Student ID 0206
You will get the following punishment
Kiss my cheek 200 times.
Huh?
What's not clear in my order?
I told you to kiss my cheek 200 times.
Now!
Wait a minute.
Usually,
the punishments are doing a push-up or squat jump
Why is it kissing now?
Why?
Didn't you just said
that you would make me your wife?
And for a man to kiss his wife's cheeks
what's wrong with that?
Enough. Enough
Kongpob, you are good to go
He's good to go!
He's good to go!
Fiiiiine.
Fiiiiine.
Are you okay?
Stop laughing.
You always ruin my image.
Come on, P'Arthit.
I just played along with my role.
Yeah,
you still owe me those 200 cheek kisses.
What?
What are you talking about?
Stop it.
The training was over.
Think of it as a special training.
When I have to deal with a situation,
I can sort it out and solve it.
Really?
NO!
Please.
Stop it.
All right, you don't have to kiss me 200 times
Just one soft kiss on my cheek…
…is fine.
Don't look at me like you are going to get it
NO!
Come on, P'Arthit.
P'Arthit
Excuse me.
Where are all the people here?
Ah, they are in the meeting room
All of them are here quite early
Well the, I have to excuse myself
Finally, you are here.
Come this way
Go to that notebook.
Here.
Why are you so late?
Why are you so late?
Check it for me.
Well..
Here's what happened,
I don't know what is wrong with my notebook.
When I plug my flash drive into it,
nothing shows.
Uh…
I think your flash dive is virus infected.
Virus?
What virus? How come it gets infected
What virus? How come it gets infected
Help me look into it.
Okay.
Give me a moment.
I'm sorry. I'm sorry
You should have been more prepared
I don't have all day to wait for you.
Please accept my apology.
Get this thing done quickly.
Next time,
when you call me to any meeting,
please ensure that everything is in place.
I'm so sorry.
Well, thank you anyway
You can go back to your IT department
I'm not from the IT department.
What?
What?
So who are you?
Why did you get in here?
Uh…
My name is Arthit.
I've just been appointed to the Procurement Department
And today is my first day
What can I do for you?
About earlier,
I'm sorry.
It's not a big deal. Don't worry.
I dragged you in without checking thoroughly
Well, your young appearance
got me thinking that you are from IT Department
Your name is Arthit, right?
My name is Som-O.
I'm the secretary of P'Danai
the Procurement Manager
Your name is Arthit, right?
Follow me to my room.
I'm Danai.
I'm the manager here.
Let me welcome you to the Procurement Department
You may notice that the scopes of job here
are different than what you have done before
At the moment,
our company has to produce a lot of products.
So our duty here
is to find suitable material
and deliver to the production team on time
Having you here in this department

What makes something go viral? | Dao Nguyen - Duration: 10:29.
Last year, some BuzzFeed employees were scheming
to prank their boss, Ze Frank,
on his birthday.
They decided to put a family of baby goats in his office.
(Laughter)
Now, BuzzFeed had recently signed on to the Facebook Live experiment,
and so naturally,
we decided to livestream the whole event on the internet
to capture the moment when Ze would walk in
and discover livestock in his office.
We thought the whole thing would last maybe 10 minutes,
and a few hundred company employees would log in for the inside joke.
But what happened?
They kept on getting delayed:
he went to get a drink,
he was called to a meeting,
the meeting ran long,
he went to the bathroom.
More and more people started logging in to watch the goats.
By the time Ze walked in more than 30 minutes later,
90,000 viewers were watching the livestream.
Now, our team had a lot of discussion about this video
and why it was so successful.
It wasn't the biggest live video that we had done to date.
The biggest one that we had done involved a fountain of cheese.
But it performed so much better than we had expected.
What was it about the goats in the office that we didn't anticipate?
Now, a reasonable person could have any number of hypotheses.
Maybe people love baby animals.
Maybe people love office pranks.
Maybe people love stories about their bosses
or birthday surprises.
But our team wasn't really thinking about what the video was about.
We were thinking about
what the people watching the video were thinking and feeling.
We read some of the 82,000 comments that were made during the video,
and we hypothesized that they were excited
because they were participating in the shared anticipation
of something that was about to happen.
They were part of a community, just for an instant,
and it made them happy.
So we decided that we needed to test this hypothesis.
What could we do to test this very same thing?
The following week,
armed with the additional knowledge that food videos are very popular,
we dressed two people in hazmat suits
and wrapped rubber bands around a watermelon until it exploded.
(Laughter)
Eight hundred thousand people watched
the 690th rubber band explode the watermelon,
marking it as the biggest Facebook Live event to date.
The question I get most frequently is:
How do you make something go viral?
The question itself is misplaced;
it's not about the something.
It's about what the people doing the something,
reading or watching --
what are they thinking?
Now, most media companies, when they think about metadata,
they think about subjects or formats.
It's about goats,
it's about office pranks,
it's about food,
it's a list or a video or a quiz,
it's 2,000 words long,
it's 15 minutes long,
it has 23 embedded tweets or 15 images.
Now, that kind of metadata is mildly interesting,
but it doesn't actually get at what really matters.
What if, instead of tagging what articles or videos are about,
what if we asked:
How is it helping our users do a real job in their lives?
Last year, we started a project
to formally categorize our content in this way.
We called it, "cultural cartography."
It formalized an informal practice that we've had for a really long time:
don't just think about the subject matter;
think also about, and in fact, primarily about,
the job that your content is doing for the reader or the viewer.
Let me show you the map that we have today.
Each bubble is a specific job,
and each group of bubbles in a specific color are related jobs.
First up: humor.
"Makes me laugh."
There are so many ways to make somebody laugh.
You can be laughing at someone,
you could laugh at specific internet humor,
you could be laughing at some good, clean, inoffensive dad jokes.
"This is me." Identity.
People are increasingly using media to explain, "This is who I am.
This is my upbringing, this is my culture,
this is my fandom, this is my guilty pleasure,
and this is how I laugh about myself."
"Helps me connect with another person."
This is one of the greatest gifts of the internet.
It's amazing when you find a piece of media
that precisely describes your bond with someone.
This is the group of jobs that helps me do something --
helps me settle an argument,
helps me learn something about myself or another person,
or helps me explain my story.
This is the group of jobs that makes me feel something --
makes me curious or sad or restores my faith in humanity.
Many media companies and creators do put themselves
in their audiences' shoes.
But in the age of social media, we can go much farther.
People are connected to each other on Facebook, on Twitter,
and they're increasingly using media to have a conversation
and to talk to each other.
If we can be a part of establishing a deeper connection between two people,
then we will have done a real job for these people.
Let me give you some examples of how this plays out.
This is one of my favorite lists:
"32 Memes You Should Send Your Sister Immediately" --
immediately.
For example, "When you're going through your sister's stuff,
and you hear her coming up the stairs."
Absolutely, I've done that.
"Watching your sister get in trouble for something that you did
and blamed on her."
Yes, I've done that as well.
This list got three million views.
Why is that?
Because it did, very well, several jobs:
"This is us."
"Connect with family."
"Makes me laugh."
Here are some of the thousands and thousands of comments
that sisters sent to each other using this list.
Sometimes we discover what jobs do after the fact.
This quiz, "Pick an Outfit and We'll Guess Your Exact Age and Height,"
went very viral: 10 million views.
Ten million views.
I mean -- did we actually determine the exact age and height
of 10 million people?
That's incredible. It's incredible.
In fact, we didn't.
(Laughter)
Turns out that this quiz went extremely viral
among a group of 55-and-up women --
(Laughter)
who were surprised and delighted
that BuzzFeed determined that they were 28 and 5'9".
(Laughter)
"They put me at 34 years younger and seven inches taller.
I dress for comfort and do not give a damn what anyone says.
Age is a state of mind."
This quiz was successful not because it was accurate,
but because it allowed these ladies to do a very important job --
the humblebrag.
Now, we can even apply this framework to recipes and food.
A recipe's normal job is to tell you what to make for dinner or for lunch.
And this is how you would normally brainstorm for a recipe:
you figure out what ingredients you want to use,
what recipe that makes,
and then maybe you slap a job on at the end to sell it.
But what if we flipped it around and thought about the job first?
One brainstorming session involved the job of bonding.
So, could we make a recipe that brought people together?
This is not a normal brainstorming process at a food publisher.
So we know that people like to bake together,
and we know that people like to do challenges together,
so we decided to come up with a recipe that involved those two things,
and we challenged ourselves:
Could we get people to say,
"Hey, BFF, let's see if we can do this together"?
The resulting video was the "Fudgiest Brownies Ever" video.
It was enormously successful in every metric possible --
70 million views.
And people said the exact things that we were going after:
"Hey, Colette, we need to make these, are you up for a challenge?"
"Game on."
It did the job that it set out to do,
which was to bring people together over baking and chocolate.
I'm really excited about the potential for this project.
When we talk about this framework with our content creators,
they instantly get it,
no matter what beat they cover, what country they're in,
or what language they speak.
So cultural cartography has helped us massively scale our workforce training.
When we talk about this project and this framework
with advertisers and brands,
they also instantly get it,
because advertisers, more often than media companies,
understand how important it is to understand the job
that their products are doing for customers.
But the reason I'm the most excited about this project
is because it changes the relationship between media and data.
Most media companies think of media as "mine."
How many fans do I have?
How many followers have I gained?
How many views have I gotten?
How many unique IDs do I have in my data warehouse?
But that misses the true value of data, which is that it's yours.
If we can capture in data what really matters to you,
and if we can understand more the role that our work plays
in your actual life,
the better content we can create for you,
and the better that we can reach you.
Who are you?
How did you get there?
Where are you going?
What do you care about?
What can you teach us?
That's cultural cartography.
Thank you.
(Applause)
