7 monographs EVERY photographer MUST own - Duration: 10:21.
okay so over the last bunch of videos that I've done you guys have seen me
wearing this jacket that Brian Abrams over at Amabilis is making they've got
a Kickstarter going right now also has this awesome hoodie use the Force Luke
well here's the deal this is the last week of the Kickstarter campaign so if
you want one of these you want it to say deeper pixels or whatever it is you're
into now's the time to do it and they even have kind of an end of the campaign
sale going on so I will put a link in the show description go check it out
so Happy New Year it is awesome see you guys back and I've got a couple things
that I want to cover today so let's get started I've got a few really cool
photography books that I want to share with you guys today and so basically
what happened was last year at the end of the year I did a video and it was my
top ten book recommendations this was the end of 2016 and I just because I'd
done a lot of book reviews in videos over the year I decided to kind of
summarize them and kind of get my top picks and most of you guys know I have a
lot of books I buy a lot of books I love photography I love printed material and
it's just something that's very inspiring to me and so this year rolled
around and people started asking me on social if I was gonna do another end of
the year book roundup again and I didn't realize it was a thing but I'm happy to
do it I did by not as many books this year as I did last you because I'm
rapidly running out of space and because the mail you guys send me
I really am tight on space and so just depends on what comes out and how
interested I am in it but I did buy a few that I want to share with you we're
gonna go through these in just a second but one thing I want to mention before
we get started here is something that to me is kind of exciting news I started
The Art of Photography in 2008 that was when I made the first video this year is
2018 I have now been making this show for 10 years which is unbelievable I started
out on iTunes I guess about 2010 or so I put everything on YouTube and I started
producing on both platforms and now I have a Facebook Watch channel it's been
an amazing experience and I try to communicate this to you guys pretty
frequently but this show has changed my life in a very profound way it's an
unusual thing to do for a living I love it
I love
opportunities where I get to meet you guys I love the community that we've
kind of built around this thing and I've had some opportunities to do some
amazing things that I didn't ever think that I would be able to do things like
the Artist Series even like just last month were kind of at the last minute I
ended up just saying I'm going to Arizona I'm gonna do this video that
I've been wanting to do for over a year now and I ended up doing like three
videos out of that and there was a Grand Canyon video and then I did some stuff
in New York and there's some footage that I haven't shown you guys yet from
the New York trip and so there's a lot of opportunity to do some interesting
stuff with the show and because it's the tenth year I want it to be as epic as I
possibly can make it and I just don't want it to be another year I want it to
be something that's really cool and so that's kind of where I am with this and
I don't have anything to announce just yet although I am working on some stuff
that will announce it when the time is right but this does impact the show in
the following way because I will have to move a few things around to make some
other things possible and the big one that gets affected is going to be photo
assignments now we have been doing photo assignments on kind of this weird
schedule where every Monday we're gonna do something with photo assignments so
I'll either give you an assignment or I'm… two weeks or so or a week I'd have a
turnaround time and then I share the work that was submitted with you guys
and the biggest complaint that I get by far from people is its just too short
and it's too fast to turn around and it's also I think been confusing a
little bit in terms of what is the current photo assignment when is the
next one coming out and so I want to make a big change there and I think it's
gonna be a change for the better I'm gonna slow this down we're gonna do
one a month I think that's a much better way of doing it
I think rather than having a whole bunch of photo assignments at the end of the
year I would rather focus on the quality more than the quantity of it so what I'm
gonna do is just do it once a month that way it's easy to remember what's the
photo assignment for February what's the photo assignment for January and it's
just by the month you know when it's gonna be due it's gonna be due at the
end of the month I'll need a day or two to put the video together but you know
when that's coming up you can share your work on social and I'll see it there so
that's the big change that I'm gonna make I just think it's gonna work a lot
better I would like to get your opinion so please leave me a comment on this two
things one does the schedule work for you guys do you think this is a fair
compromise with all this is just going to be a little less frequent work for me
to do like the giving the assignment is not hard but
putting together those videos where I've got to put everybody's names in it and I've made a
couple errors in the past it's it's a lot of work and I think this will just
open it up and it allows us all to focus on the quantity and not the quality plus
it'll give me during the month some other chances to merge other content in
with that too depending on what the subject is so I want to know what you
think of that idea and 2) do you want a photo assignment for January I can do
one but we're already a couple days in it's up to you guys so would you rather
wait and we'll kick it off in February and we'll just do something totally cool
so anyway I would like to hear from you guys on that so let's look at a few book
recommendations I will put a list of everything in the show notes below so if
you're interested in getting one of these they're all in a list together and
you can find them on Amazon but anyway what I'm gonna do here is I'm gonna
start with the color stuff and color photography is a little bit of a stretch
for me because historically my interests and my tastes have always been with
black-and-white photographers but more recently I think this probably started
with a Saul Leiter to a large extent Ernst Hass who is an incredible
photographer had a collection that… actually there were two books that were
released this year this one's called color correction and
the other book is okay it's more of his set photography that he did for movie studios
but color correction is insanely good highly recommended and there's another
color photographer that I start checking out more in-depth as well and I've been
aware of Luigi Ghirri for a long time but Luigi Ghirri a well-known Italian
photographer has a book called Kodachrome this is not a new book this
is an older book I don't know that it's in print and so you could have some
trouble tracking this down but it's worth being patient to check out this
book I actually bought several years ago and I've talked about it a zillion times
on this show but this little trilogy I want to make complete with Sail Leiter's
early color it's still in print if you don't have it it's well worth it and
what's interesting to me and the reason I'm including him in this conversation
is that all three of these photographers they all shot on Kodachrome and this was
pre digital and so there really wasn't a lot of post-processing that was involved
and the interesting thing to me is all three of these people have radically
different styles Ernst Haas' work has this lush feel to it - these deep rich
colors then kind of the opposite would be Luigi Ghirri who works in kind of these
pastels with very minimal compositions and their work looks completely
different even though they were using the same film and then Saul Leiter who
also Kodachrome comes into the picture and
he's got a very different approach to what he does in a very stylized look and
I think there's an important reminder here that we get really involved in the
camera side of things and then also in the post-production side of things
particularly when working with color and I think it's a really wonderful reminder
all three of these photographers to me that there's so much that you can do
they all look different because of their approaches are different the subject
matter is very different the lighting conditions are different and they're
kind of tailored to each individual photographer and that's where your
talent and your sense of style are gonna end up coming from not so much on the
post into things so that's why I wanted to include these three in the color
trilogy here next up is this very thick and very awesome book from probably my
favorite photographer in the history of photography and this is Irving Penn I
have covered Irving Penn a lot on the show before
and there was a book that came out a couple years ago and the exhibition that
I was covering I think was called Beyond Beauty this is even better this is very
much more complete in terms of what was included here this was I don't know that
this was done around a specific show the Met was involved with this but they are
very involved with the Penn Foundation highly recommended is the Irving Penn
Centennial this book was actually sent to me as a gift from Gabriel Wertman and
Gabriel lives in Mexico City I met him when I was down there last year and he
sent this to me I it was actually in the last video I did an unboxing this is
Flor Garduño and she is a wonderful photographer very much in the vein of
Graciela Iturbide her work has a mystical quality with a lot of symbolism
included in it and I had to include this as one of my favorites of this year it's
not one that was on my list to buy it was given to me as a gift and I have
absolutely fallen in love with it there is some amazing work here so once again
Gabriel thank you for sharing this the last two books that I want to share with
you guys these are not yet big-name photographers I think they're extremely
talented they're not done by big publishing houses but you guys send me a
lot of work during the year I've done a lot of mail time shows this year and I
want to recognize two people both these books are available and I will link them
up in the show description but I wanted to give them a shout out because I think
this work to me is extra-special and I've really enjoyed it a lot and the
first one up is Shetland OO which is done by Tom Barr and some of you guys
might remember Tom or recognize him he goes by the name Ootlier in the comments
section he's a hell of a guy and credible photographer this is not
exclusively a photography book Kate Davies wrote the text in here and is a
documentary book on the shetland island wool industry and I think the
photography in here is absolutely outstanding and what I like about this
book is that it is not photography for the sake of showing off photography he
is telling a story he is documenting in here but it is extremely good and Tom
shoots at such a high level and I am really glad that we become friends since
he sent this to me and so Tom I didn't tell you guys that I was gonna be doing
this so special shout out to Tom you guys need to check out Shetland Oo it is
fantastic the second book that I want to recognize was sent to me by Bastiaan Woudt
this is called In Marokko Bastiaan has a very ethereal quality to the work that
he does and this is my other favorite book that was sent in this year I really
enjoyed this as a very dreamlike quality to it a lot of interesting things are
done with focus points and where your eye is supposed to go in the composition
and the work is just beautiful and absolutely outstanding so I want to give
a shout out to Bastian once again too and again both these books are available
I will link them up in the show description
I hope this has provided some inspiration for you guys and this was
kind of my picks for I guess 2017 but we're in to 2018 now that's over with
although I have cool books to draw inspiration from now anyway a lot of
cool stuff coming up this week including this disaster you don't want to miss my
review on the light l16 I will have that out this week I've got a bunch of other
stuff coming up as well love to hear from you please leave a comment and
until the next video Happy New Year and I will see you guys
next time later

Logan Paul - Slap On The Wrist (DISS TRACK) - Duration: 2:38.
Hey logan, you traded your human side, for useless youtube views and likes.
Don't you know, suicide, it ruins lives.
And you kids're running around unsupervised.
You got pathetic lives and we can't let it slide.
we're not surprised that you didn't call medics guys.
We should have recognized that you tried to televise
A guy you had identified as just died.
This nuisance has got a ruthless ego.
So big he used this to move the needle.
Thinks he's the man, Goes to Japan to see ghosts.
But he just post to improve his results.
Logan whole team, we need to veto.
Everytime we click, we feed the seagulls.
Cuz they always come back for more.
We're so sick of vloggers going back and forth.
All Logan'll get is a slap on the wrist.
But we all know, it's a fact, not a myth.
Youtube and Logan, they both have to get rich.
All Logan'll get is a slap on the wrist.
Man Youtube, should be going to bat, for these kids.
Do they actually know what a tragedy is.
Yes, but them and Logan, they both have to get rich.
All Logan will get is a slap on the wrist.
They make it out to look like a whole drama.
There just a bunch housewives in a soap opera.
At Babble Top, we're not alone in our own mantra.
Our number one goal's to expose the whole genre.
I know you're admired, by kids who aren't inspired.
But we're so tired, your vlog should be expired.
You're an entertainer, liar, reach higher!
Good, thoughtful content, should be required.
In the forest, you moved toward, something enormously horrid.
But you don't mourn, you see it as a reward...
And before, you go to authorities, to report....
You sit there, and record someone's corpse, and ignore,
The fact, you impact, all these kids, but you lack,
any tact, and act like a brat in your hat.
It's bad, cuz you laughed, on behalf, of this lad,
Weren't sad, almost clapped, you were glad and then bragged.
All Logan'll get is a slap on the wrist.
But we all know, it's a fact, not a myth.
Youtube and Logan, they both have to get rich.
All Logan'll get is a slap on the wrist.
Man Youtube, should be going to bat for these kids.
Do they actually know what a tragedy is.
Yes, but them and Logan, they both have to get rich.
All Logan will get is a slap on
the wrist.

Weekly Entertainment Wrap Up #53 [CC] - Duration: 5:24.
Hi, YouTube, it's Kathy,
and this is my Weekly Entertainment Wrap Up from December 31st to January 6th.
This week I read 2 books, I watched 1 tv show, I watched 1 movie, and I listened to 1 book.
First this week, I finished A Local Habitation by Seanan McGuire.
This is the second book in the October Daye series.
Toby is a half human, half fae detective, and chooses to live on the human side of San
Fransisco instead of where her leige lives.
He sends Toby on a case to an adjacent realm to check up on it's ruler, who is also his
niece, because he hasn't been able to get through to her recently, and him going
himself would be seen as a political act.
What I love about this book is how many new types of faerie are introduced by going to
this new court.
I imagine this is going continue through the series, but you get vivid descriptions these
different types of magic users.
There was a twist revealed about a couple of characters near the end, which I guessed
as soon as one of them was introduced, but it was still fun to go through the book and
see that plot build to that reveal.
The first in this series was one of the books I mentioned in my Top [7] Books of 2017 video,
which I will link in places, and I fully intend to keep reading the series.
The other physical book I finished this week was One Kick by Chelsea Cain.
I originally picked this up because it was rumoured that a patron wanted to challenge
this book, meaning they wanted us to take it out of our collection, and I wanted to
read it to figure out why.
The book starts with a little girl playing Scrabble with a man who is not her father.
As she describes what she is supposed to do if any form of police show up, you
piece together that she was kidnapped years ago.
The bulk of the story takes place ten years after her rescue.
This book deals with child abuse and trafficking, which I imagine was the reason someone wanted
it removed from the collection.
However, this book is very careful about not going into details of what happened.
It gives enough details that the reader can guess, which makes it far less violent book than
others I've read from the library.
This book takes an action/thriller turn when Kick is recruited by a mysterious rich guy
to solve the disappearance of another local child.
This book was also good at showing relationships and how complicated they could be.
I, especially, enjoyed the relationship between Kick and her brother, James.
This is the first in a series, and although I wouldn't mind picking up the next one,
it's not high on my priority list.
The show I watched this week was Sherlock.
I intended to just rewatch the first season, but then I ended up also rewatching the second season.
Winx, over at Winx & Ink, declared this Sherlock Holmes Reading Month, so in addition
to reading some great Sherlock stories, I also decided I wanted to rewatch the whole show.
I'd take any excuse to rewatch the show.
I still enjoy the character dynamics and cinematography, and I'm looking forward to watching the
next two seasons as well.
The movie I watched this week was The Greatest Showman.
I knew nothing about Phineas Taylor Barnum going into this movie, but will take any opportunity
to see Hugh Jackman in a musical.
The film was beautifully styled, and the cinematography was absolutely gorgeous.
The choreography for some of the scenes was just stunning.
The thing is, a voice in the back of my mind spent a lot of the film wondering how much
Hollywood had glossed over in order to make this biopic.
It turns out, a lot.
Just as I was gearing up to do my own research about this circus, the ever lovely Jen Campbell posted
a video about it, which I will link down below.
Please go watch it, as it is full of insight.
In short, this film was mostly fiction, and the parts that weren't fiction weren't
great representation.
By this I mean Barnum bought many of this performers when they were very young, as opposed
to in the film where they are seen [be given] a choice to join up.
Barnum's upbringing was nothing like it was portrayed in the film.
The characters with bodily differences, based on real people with actual conditions, were
all played by able-bodied people.
In my opinion, this film would have been much more impactful, 1)
If it wasn't trying to show an established figure (because most of what they said about
that figure was lies anyway), and was about a fictitious circus.
2) If it employed actors with bodily differences that matched the characters, instead of great
make up artists, and 3) If the film centred one of the performers
as the protagonist, instead of the straight, white, able-bodied ringmaster.
That character could still be there, and still have the amazing tavern scene with the Efron
character, but at the prompting of the protagonist.
I'm fed up with biopics that aren't truthful to the life that they are depicting, and movies
that centre the straight, white male characters as "different" so he can relate to the characters who are
actually othered.
Again, please watch Jen's video on this topic, because she is much more knowledgeable
when it comes to this history and is an absolutely delightful human.
This week I listened to Boy Meets Boy by David Levithan.
This is a full cast recording with musical interludes, and was delightful.
Paul, our protagonist, is in a much more accepting version of high school than we see today.
The quarterback is a drag queen.
Paul was the first openly gay third grade class president.
Paul is rarely bullied for just being who he is, and the only time he really sees something
like that is with his best friend Tony, who goes to another school and whose parents are
very religious.
This book is about friendships, and falling in love, and being there for the ones that you
love, and it was just an absolute delight to listen to this cast of characters
go about their daily lives.
This school had so many different clubs that it really felt like if you took an interest
in something, you'd have other people who would support you in that interest instead of making
your fandom an underground enthusiasm.
This one is cute, and I definitely recommend the audiobook, because all the different voices
bring something to the story.
That's it for this week.
If you've read, watched, or listened to any of these, let me know about it down in
the comments below.
On the way down to the comments, if you could hit that Subscribe button, that would be very nice of you.
You can also like and share this as you see fit, and I will see you next time.
Bye!

How to get fit outdoors : walking your dog - Duration: 4:19.
hi everyone welcome to today's vlog it's January 2018 and I thought I would start
the year with a really useful little workout you can do all you need is one
of these and we're going to go for a walk and then what we're gonna do is
we're gonna do a little workout as we go along most of you have got parks or
benches little obstacles that you can perform exercises on when you take your
dog for a walk especially when the weather gets better not everybody wants
to be stuck inside so let's get started
and I've just got back from my walk and I just wanted to end this video on a
note about getting older I think it's so important not to give up on yourself you
know just because you know you may be feeling a few aches and pains as you get
older you know there's so many things you can do about it don't think it's
inevitable that as you get older this isn't gonna work that's not gonna work
you can turn back the clock by making just quite simple tweaks to your
lifestyle and it's not difficult I know it's publicized to be really
difficult and to make these changes and that's why people find it so hard
because they think that they have to do a whole load of new things to achieve
something but you know really don't just take really small steps really small
goals basically you just have to get used to the fact that you just have to
live not an excessive lifestyle you don't have to go to the gym everyday you
don't have to go to classes every day just walk swim be active and move around
it has so many simple things you can do without it being too complicated
honestly especially for you people that are getting older out there I hope you enjoyed
the video and I'll see you next time

Do You Know What's Actually In Your Condoms? - Duration: 2:53.
The FDA does not require
condom manufacturers
to disclose their ingredients,
which is crazy right
because this is something going into
one of the most intimate
most absorbent parts of your body
Now nitrosamines
are a known carcinogen.
They get released from the latex
when the latex comes into contact
with bodily fluid.
Condoms keep us protected
from unwanted pregnancy,
from STDs and SDI's,
but how safe are they?
Sustain Natural aims to empower people
when it comes to sex.
It's crazy that we don't have access
to transparency around
the ingredients in condoms.
We think consumers have a right
to know what's in their products,
and I don't think nitrosamines
have any place
inside a woman's vagina.
One chemical of concern
that we discovered
when we were looking at the space
was something called nitrosamine.
The nitrosamine levels are regulated
in pacifiers by the FDA,
yet there's no regulation of nitrosamines
in condoms.
So we add a chemical blocker
to the manufacturing process
to prevent the nitrosamines
from forming in the latex.
We also don't add things like spermicide
or fragrances or dyes,
other things that can irritate
a woman's body.
We make everything
from non-toxic condoms
to organic cotton tampons
Shoot it like a shot.
That was terrifying.
When we decided to start Sustain
we saw really two huge opportunities.
First and foremost we learned
that 40% of condoms
are actually purchased by women
yet neither of the two major players
in the space we're doing anything
to encourage women
to buy their products
to manufacture their products
in a way that's quote on quote
vagina friendly.
And the second really big opportunity
we saw was that there were really
no natural products in this category.
Women and men alike
have never really thought about
what's in their condom.
So we saw a really big opportunity
for a female focused
natural condom brand.
Never rip a condom with your teeth
or anything but your hands.
So you have to make sure
when you pull this through
that the rolling is happening inside.
You don't want to have any air.
See this is good
it's lubricated, it's nice and slippery.
Make sure you always roll
it all the way down.
Look at that. Fits perfect.
Perfect!
What makes our condoms different
we have the most sustainable
responsible condom on the planet,
because we've created rubbers
that were made from latex
that was harvested
in the Amazon rainforest.
This product, it's safer for you to use
and safer for the planet.

Oil Boom Trump Delivers Devastating Blow to OPEC - Duration: 2:15.
Oil Boom: Trump Delivers Devastating Blow to OPEC
President Donald Trumps Make America Great Again agenda is based upon placing the interests
of America first, and a big part of that is making sure America is not simply
energy independent, but dominant in the global energy market.
As such, the Department of Interior just announced a draft proposal plan that would unleash American
energy production by opening up vast areas of our nations outer continental shelf
to consideration for off-shore oil exploration and drilling.
Current policy put in place by the prior administration has nearly 94 percent of Americas OCS labeled
as off-limits to exploration, but a new 5-year oil and gas leasing program would essentially
reverse that number and potentially open up virtually all of Americas offshore resources
for exploration and extraction, in a responsible manner.
Responsibly developing our energy resources on the Outer Continental Shelf in a safe and
well-regulated way is important to our economy and energy security, and it provides billions
of dollars to fund the conservation of our coastlines, public lands and parks, stated
Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke.
Todays announcement lays out the options that are on the table and starts a lengthy
and robust public comment period, he continued.
Just like with mining, not all areas are appropriate for offshore drilling, and we
will take that into consideration in the coming weeks.

How to Optimise Your Videos | VideoMagnets.co.uk | 020 8133 2352 - Duration: 5:36.
Optimising videos isn't rocket science.
Oh no, it's a lot worse than that.
We could happily live without rockets but if we don't get our videos right, we're cooked.
Do you want to know what you can do about this?
Then don't go away.
[Music]
Let's delve into the mysteries of Optimising our Video Magnets.
You need to optimise for VIDEO SEO, for SPEED, that is for the SIZE, and for VIDEO CONTENT.
Thank you, professor.
I won't go into detail about optimising content for your videos in this video because I have
already created at least 10 separate videos in this 'A to Z of Video for Professional
Services' on Purpose, Structure, Call to Action, WIIFM, and, of course, Content itself.
Optimising Video Speed means speed of STREAMING our videos.
We optimise for streaming by optimising the file size of our videos, by reducing them
as much as possible without affecting the quality of our videos.
Now, I'll be creating a separate video showing you how you can do this easily without any
technical knowledge by using a simple, free compression programme to help you achieve
this.
Now this leaves Video SEO for Video Marketing.
And by video marketing we typically understand optimising our videos for YouTube so that
they rank in both YouTube and Google.
There are two roads, which can be travelled here.
One is that travelled by YOUTUBERS, who are typically millennials who create videos to
make money from advertising shown on their videos.
In case you're interested, the rule of thumb is roughly $1,000 earned per million views.
Now, GangNam Style with two and a half billion or so views didn't do badly.
But how many videos actually do get a million views?
However cool this may look, we don't travel this road.
The purpose for our videos is totally different to that of the YouTubers.
Now, YouTubers create videos and upload them to YouTube to earn money on YouTube through
advertising.
We upload our videos to YouTube as Information or Content Marketing.
What do I mean by this?
We create and publish our videos not to earn money from our videos but to promote our services,
to increase our visibility, to show our potential clients what we can do for them.
And then earn our money through the services we provide to our clients.
YouTube is just platform, albeit it's the most important platform for video marketing.
So we have to optimise for it.
And that's a step, which most people tend to ignore, regrettably.
Now, here are the 6 steps you have to follow.
Take your main keyword.
This keyword has to go into the filename of your video file before you upload it to YouTube.
Then you use the keyword and your company name plus, if possible, a contact telephone
number in your title on YouTube for the video.
Next is the description.
That contains an abbreviated version of the content of your video, and at the top a clickable
link to the page on your website where your video lives.
If you have social media properties, add clickable links to them to the description.
Now, once you've done this, add tags to your video.
Tags are more than just the one keyword, but any kind of keyword which is relevant to the
content you publish in your video.
Having done that, upload a customised thumbnail for your video that's easily readable and
properly designed.
Don't rely on the thumbnail which is provided by YouTube.
It's just a random image from your video.
Now, finally, once your video has been uploaded and processed by YouTube, upload a transcript.
That will not only make it accessible for those who are hard of hearing, but it will
also tell the search engines what your video is about.
And it beats hands down the closed captions which are offered automatically by YouTube.
Now, once everything is done, don't forget to make your video is public.
Don't leave it unlisted or private.
You want it to be found, don't you?
Thank you for watching.
If you liked this video, please, give it a thumbs up, and if you haven't done so yet,
please, subscribe to my YouTube channel.
Now, do you have any further questions?
Would you like me to cover other topics in future videos?
Nothing easier than that.
Connect with me through Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook or through my website, and I'll do
my best to create another video for you as soon as possible.
