What To Include In A Roadside Emergency Kit (Car Safety Tips For Your Family) - Duration: 10:26.

today I wanted to jump in for our warrior tip Wednesday where I go live

every single week with a new self-defense tip or new way that you can

better protect your family Who am I well my name is Meredith Rines

I'm an independent damsel pro with damsel in defense we are a company built

for women our admission is simple it is to equip women with self-defense tools

educate women on how to use those tools and empower them so that they can better

protect their family if a need arises today I don't want to talk necessarily

about self-defense tools I want to talk about roadside emergency kits this is a

kit that is desperately needed in every single vehicle across the United States

you never know when something that is gonna have it and when you walk out in

your car won't start when you get a flat tire when you need a screwdriver for

something you never know when something is going to happen and you need to be

better prepared so we have a product that is one of our best selling products

it is called the junk in the trunk it is cute it is simple it comes in a

really cute little case like this that you can easily throw into the back of

your car and know that if something happens you are better protected and can

get yourself out of a situation and you don't necessarily have to wait on the

side of the road for help to arrive especially when the roads are getting

slicker and though it's getting darker earlier and it's just plain cold out so

I want to go through with you real fast what all isn't included in the junk in

the trunk so that way you can get one for yourself

and get one for your friends get one for your family if you have any children

that were that are now starting to drive or go away to college this is a must

must must must my dad at years ago put together something similar on his own it

had me carry it in my car and I carried that sucker in my car until that plastic

tote literally disintegrated it fell apart it shattered but now it comes in a

handy kit so that way it won't fall apart it will stay together and it will

stay is compact in your car to take up less room so let's get into it so when

you open up this front pocket here this is where your first aid kit lives so you

have a first aid kit it's got sanding it's got alcohol pads it's got gauze

pads and it even has like a butterfly closure

band-aid for those deeper cuts so this is something that as a mom I highly

suggest you have a first aid kit in your car at all times you never know when

your kids can hurt themselves you never know when your husband is gonna hurt

themselves and you need to be better prepared by having at least a small

first-aid kit so I have this first-aid kit in my junk of the trunk and I have

owned I've added a few extra band-aids because I am a mom of a toddler every

time he gets a scraper cut or something even if there's not really a boo-boo

there he still wants a band-aid for it so I have thrown in a few extra

band-aids in here because I go through them so much so this is something that I

highly recommend that you have in your car next up it does have a another

pocket right here on the front side and when you open this up this is where all

of your other is included this is where everything else is in here

so you do come it comes with two rain ponchos rain ponchos are extremely

important if you've never changed a flat tire in the rain then you don't

understand how amazing everything poncho is because trust me you're gonna want

something you're gonna want something that protects you and just makes it a

little easier for you to work if it is pouring down rain

what's great is Earths comes in this bright blue color so that way it makes

it easier for you to be seen if you are on the side of the road but next up we

do have two emergency blankets again this is the time of year where you need

to make sure that your family is protected a few weeks ago I talked about

winter travel tips and how we always include a blanket in our car to help

keep us warm but if you are gonna be stranded for a longer period of time and

it is really cold it's getting dark out you need more than just your fuzzy ninja

turtle blanket to keep your kid warm you need something a little bit heavier a

little bit more suited for the cold so this is the emergency blanket it will

there's two of them in here it is big enough to cover up you and another

person so that way you can have you know two or three people covered at all times

it comes with gloves so these gloves are perfect if you are needing to change up

tie your tire attached jumper cables check something under your hood you

should keep your hands protected because the last thing you want to do is you

want to pick up something and get dirt and grime on your hands and then have to

go hey deal and handle your your small child or get them a sack or something

like that you want to make sure that you are protecting them by protecting your

hands what's great about these gloves is they do have that rubber grip or on here

so that way if it is cold if it is rainy if it's wet outside you can at least

still grip to change that flat tire to attach to those jumper cables or to do

something with your car that you can do it a lot easier because your hands won't

be cold it won't be hard to grip you'll be better protected

it comes with an ice scraper it is a smaller ice scraper but it's really all

you need if you are in a sticky situation and you know to get yourself

home from work or you or you know went to the store and you now come out and

it's been ice or sleeting and you got to clean off your windshield to drive home

this is the perfect tool it even comes with the soft grip on here so that way

you can better grip it when it is cold outside it comes with an emergency

whistle if you have never needed an emergency what's all good but this is

great to have especially if you ever slide off into a ditch and you're trying

to get some attention you know that they're looking for you or out looking

and they can't quite see you because it is so dark out this is a great tool to

have to help get a you know attention drawn your way so that you can be found

it also includes a hidden compartment here so you can put some money maybe a

car key in here as well if you have to go you know walk or anything like that

you can have your hands-free it does have a compass on the top so that way if

you you know know how to get out of directions and you know you need to head

north east you can easily do that and finally it has the lanyard on it so that

way you can wear it around your neck and not have to worry about holding it or

putting into a pocket pocket you can easily have your hands on it it comes

with our waterproof safety matches so this way if it is wet outside or it is

snowing outside you can still start a fire you can still start something to

keep you and your family warm it comes with a battery free LED

a flashlight which if you are like me are most people who have flashlights in

their car you probably forget to check the batteries to make sure that it is

still working this you don't have to worry about it is a handheld flashlight

all you have to do is use it and the flashlight works so what is recommended

is you see it's turned on I'm not doing anything with it and it is turned on so

that way you can have battery power without actually having batteries you

don't have to worry about dead batteries you don't have to worry about checking

your flashlight every couple weeks to make sure that is still working you

don't have to worry that that one time your toddler played with it he

accidentally left it on because that's happened to me so you could have a

flashlight to see better to change that flat tire to check under the hood to

find something that's got lost in the car even because if you have kids then

you are very well aware when they can't find their favorite toy you don't leave

until you find that favorite toy it comes also with a set of quick tools so

you have here a Philips screwdriver and it comes with a pair of pliers as well

so that is something else it comes in this kit it also has a tire pressure

gauge in the kit as well if you don't normally are on a routine basis check

your tire pressure you really should do that especially whenever the weather

changes from warm to cold or hot to cold you really should check your tire

pressure on a routine basis because when it's hot out the air expands and your

tires will have more air in them or they seem like they have more air in it and

then when it's cold that air constricts and it you might need to add a little

bit more air to your tires to reach the ideal tire pressure level and if you're

not sure white tire pressure you should have in your car you can look that up in

the book that it comes with every car in your glove box which most of us probably

have never really read or you can just google it but you should make sure that

you are driving on a flat normal air pressure levels within all four tires so

that you don't accidentally put extra extra wear on any of your tires but grab

this make sure that you are have that tire pressure gauge in your

especially just for when it turns really cold out that way you can make sure that

you if you're going to drive long distance you have the right tire

pressure in your car so that all goes in this side of the kit and it has elastic

to keep it all organized and straight so that it's not all flying around and then

on the backside when you open this as well it comes with jumper cables so you

have jumper cables in the back so that way they're not smashing or you know

give me anything else dirty but jumper cables are a great thing to have now

even if it's not for you personally your car is working fine but if you come out

late at night and your co-workers car isn't starting now you can be the hero

you could help start their car you could help send them on the way jumper cables

are great tools you have to have some in your car I highly recommend always

carrying them not just in the winter just always have a pair of jumper cables

in your trunk if you are not sure how to use jumper cables because you want to

make sure that you hook them up correctly so that way if you go to start

the car that won't start it won't backfire it won't hurt the other engine

and won't tear up your car or anything like that so make sure you have

instructions I don't know how to use jumper cables if you've never really

used those and you can keep those in this bag with it as well and that's it

this is everything that comes into this kit it's super handy to have you can

look at that you can grab it on our website I hope you have a very great

week and I will see you next week with another warrior tip Wednesday

TCPA SMS Compliance - How to Switch Short Codes on Consumers - Duration: 12:11.

Derek: Hello, everyone.

Derek with Tatango.com.

I'm here with TCPA attorney, Ernesto Mendieta.

And we're answering questions from the interwebs about text messaging and TCPA compliance.

Luckily, we have a TCPA attorney here, and I know a few things about text messaging.

So, one of the questions we get all the time is a short code.

If you're not familiar, it's five to six digits, it's usually what brands will text message

you on.

There are some instances where you have to move your subscribers.

Let's say you have a million phone numbers, and you wanna move those phone numbers from

one short code to another.

And maybe that's your switching SMS providers, there's a host of reasons.

So, one day you're sending messages on a certain phone number, the next day you want to send

messages to those same phone numbers on a different five-digit phone number.

We get the question a lot, "Well, is that TCPA-compliant or what do I need to do to

remain TCPA-compliant when I'm switching essentially the phone number I'm texting my customers

on?"

Ernesto: That's a good way to see it, where I'm changing the telephone number I'm calling

from, right?

So, first, I'm gonna give you the general answer, and then we can get to the details.

But the general answer would be the TCPA, what it cares about is if the call party gave

you consent to be contacted for a telemarketing call or an informational call, right, how

was that consent given, and what was the agreement?

Like, what was the scope of the agreement?

So, we're saying if a certain consumer said, like, "Yes, they signed a contract, they signed

terms and conditions that said you can contact me anytime relating to this product or offers

about this product."

Then it's an open agreement, right, you can contact him, email, you can call him in telephone,

SMS.

Obviously, for SMS campaigns, you become a little narrower in your terms and conditions.

If you said, like, "Well, you're gonna receive one text message that you're gonna opt in,

and then I'm gonna send you back one text message a week."

Okay?

So, that was your agreement and you have to respect that.

Regarding short codes, the first question that you would have to do to see if you remain

compliant by changing is, what was the agreement, and how was the consent granted.

If the consent that was granted said, "You can contact me at my phone number with one

SMS a week," then you can do it with any phone because there was no limitation to what short

code was gonna [crosstalk 00:02:29], right?

So, you are compliant, you can change your short code every time, every SMS...

Derek: It can come from a different number.

Ernesto: Yeah.

Derek: It could even come from 1800 number.

It could come from, you know, a regular phone number.

Now, the carriers obviously have issues with that, but I guess it's to the point, the relationship

and the consent that the consumer has given is to the business to be able to message them.

Ernesto: Correct.

Derek: And hopefully, in the terms and conditions, with that kind of consent, it's not so specific

that you're saying, "I'm only gonna message you on 12345, that'll be the only number I'm

messaging you on.

So, do you recommend before you move a short code or before you move your subscribers to

a new short code, always have, like, a TCPA attorney review the terms and conditions,

the opt-in process, to make sure you didn't put in something that maybe restricts you

from moving?

Ernesto: Yeah, it's important.

If you already have this consent granted with certain limitations, it's important that before

you do anything that's gonna affect that consent, you have someone with you until you know.

It's okay, like, you didn't limit yourself, you didn't restrict yourself from migrating

into another short code.

Derek: And I hear this all the time, there's no rule in the TCPA that says you can't switch

short codes on people.

Ernesto: There's no rule [crosstalk 00:03:45].

Derek: They don't even mention short codes, right?

Ernesto: They do not.

Derek: It's very generic, its messaging, right?

Ernesto: Yeah.

Derek: Okay.

Ernesto: I'll just say it's important or it clarifies a lot of things when we're talking

just about TCPA, it will consider short code to be a telephone number.

Derek: Yeah.

Ernesto: For the TCPA specifically, there's no difference in how it treats those two things.

Derek: That's really more kind of on the software layer side, we care about short codes and

what you're messaging on.

From a TCPA standpoint, as long as the message is getting to the phone, it really doesn't

matter, you know, whether it's long code or, you know, 1800 number, or a short code, or

if you're switching the short code.

Now, it's annoying from a consumer standpoint.

So, I think when you as a brand are looking to move your subscribers, I wouldn't recommend

switching short codes on them every day because they're gonna go, "Who's this new short code?"

And I think there are some ways to alert your customers and tell them kinda what's happening

so you can reduce churn.

But from a TCPA standpoint, there's no mention of it, it really comes down to what the customer

agreed to when they opted in.

Ernesto: Correct.

Yeah.

Derek: Okay.

Ernesto: Because we can get to talk to best practices, and do you wanna notify them that

now you're gonna contact them through this number?

Yeah, maybe...

Derek: But those are best practices.

Ernesto: ...[inaudible 00:04:59] best practice.

Yeah, but...

Derek: And best practice is not law.

Ernesto: Correct.

Derek: Okay.

Ernesto: TCPA, there's no issue because the relationship is between the company and the

consumer, what was the consent, right?

If the consent was, "You can contact me through any telephone number," then you can migrate

short codes and there would be no issue with the TCPA.

Derek: So, the TCPA attorney, they review your opt-in process and the terms and conditions,

they don't see any clear and kind of reason why you couldn't move your phone numbers to

another, you know, short code, or long code, or whatever you wanna move it to.

There is something though, you know, that you need to kind of prepare and keep.

What is that?

Ernesto: Yeah.

It's important you were contacted him, right?

Even if you migrate short codes, if those aren't delete all the history you have behind

them of getting consent and sending them messages.

So, what you do need to do to remain compliant with the TCPA when you migrate short codes

is respect and continue to comply with that agreement you had before.

So, if you got the consent by that person using the other short code, meaning you sent

him an SMS with an opt in and he clicked on it, he said yes, he did whatever he needed

to do, then it's important to do some good record-keeping.

Derek: Okay.

Ernesto: You have to say, "This person consented to me contacting him with this short code."

Even if from now on it's gonna be a different short code, it's important for you to keep

it, to have those records complete.

Because if in the future there's a lawsuit against you, they're gonna ask you, "Was there

consent, was not there consent?"

You gonna say, "There was consent on this phone number, or this short code," and you

also have the migration and...if someone ask, "Why is it a different number than these messages?"

You're able to say, "Well, let me go to my file, let me go to my records.

Here it is because I migrated the short code but I had the consent," right?

Derek: Yeah.

Ernesto: And on the other side, it's also important that to respect any opt out that

you receive in the prior short code.

If you were contacting someone, and that person opted out, then you cannot contact him again.

Derek: Yeah.

Ernesto: If you migrate short codes, you cannot just go back to all the consents you have

and all the opt ins, and then, start texting everybody again.

Derek: So, it's not like a do-over, you know, back in middle school or whatever, you know,

where, "Oh, I'm switching phone numbers, so now it's a do-over."

All those people that opted out on the old phone number, they're back in.

Or, you know, "Hey, a new phone number, so I can do different things now, like, now I

can message from another business on that phone number."

It really...you have to maintain consistency.

Ernesto: Yeah.

And it goes to the same point that we were making at the beginning, the important thing

is your relationship between the company and the consumer.

So, it doesn't matter what the short code is, if they opted out, they opted out.

Like, don't go again...whatever.

Derek: So, and one thing I've seen is a lot of brands, when they're moving to a new short

code, they will just export from the old provider a list of phone numbers and maybe when they

opted in, you know, and what their carrier is.

I like that, that's nice.

But also, what I recommend, and it's a big file usually, sometimes you have to request

it, is to get the full messaging history for the entire length of the messaging campaign.

This means every single message in and out on the system.

Because when, you know, a plaintiff or somebody, a consumer complains, it's not good enough

to just look at a phone number and say, "Well, you opted in on this date and your carriers

AT&T, that's all we know about you."

It has to be, "Well, you texted in this, then we sent you this, then you opted in.

You've received these seven messages, and then you opted out."

It has to be the full record, which is a lot.

You know, if you have a million subscribers and you're sending one a day, that's a lot

of records, but you have to keep that information.

Ernesto: Yeah.

You have to because that's what's gonna prevent you or it's gonna give you a good defense

in case you get sued.

If you end up in court and there's a question of when did they consent, when did they opt

out, the only thing that's gonna save you...well, not the only thing, but the main thing that

could save you and is a really great defense strategy is to have all those messages, to

show them.

Derek: To have data.

Ernesto: Yeah.

Derek: Yep, exactly.

And then, also, you made a good point, the opt out.

If you move a short code, or if you move your subscribers from one short code to another,

you have to also continue to maintain and monitor the old short code because if someone

replies stop to the old short code, again, they're replying stop to your brand, not to

that specific phone number from your brand.

So, again, at Tatango, we look at it as, like, a long strategy where you're moving the subscriber,

but you also have to maintain, you know, opt outs and record them, and then apply them

to the new short code.

So, it's not as easy as just kind of, "Hey, new do-over, move over the subscribers."

It has to be a multi-month plan to move your short code, and a lot of data, and where you

store that data, you know?

Because we wanna make sure it's safe, it's not just with your marketing person, you wanna

send it to your legal team, you wanna make sure that it remains for a certain amount

of time.

So, it's definitely something, I think, you have to coordinate with not only your brand,

the SMS provider, the old SMS provider, and then also TCPA Council.

Ernesto: Yeah.

Derek: So, it's not as easy as just flip the switch.

Ernesto: Yeah.

And that's what TCPA Council is gonna get...should get involved and help you with the process

because they'll say, "Well, maybe to avoid dealing with that and dealing with all the

opt outs before, let's give a notice to all our clients, right?

Let's give them a specific notice that starting from today, we don't have that."

Even if it's not necessary, but you're letting them know so tomorrow they cannot go to court

and say, like, "Well, on this day I opted out to the phone that I had been receiving

messages."

Derek: So, you're saying almost, like, you know, even though it's not required by the

TCPA, you can give notice to your existing subscribers telling them that, you know, "Hey,

we are not using this phone number.

Don't text message this phone number.

For stop request, here's the new phone number," and again, recording all that data.

So, if there is an issue, you can go to court and say, "Well, we messaged them on this date,

this message, and then we messaged them from the new code."

So, it's kind of marrying best practices with law, with kinda common sense.

And then, also, you have to keep up with kinda the brand where it can't just sound like a

robot is moving your phone number.

I've seen some really good examples where people are like, you know, "Hey, we just got

a new phone number," you know, "Here it is," and, you know, "Here's 20% off for remaining

a subscriber," you know?

So, I think you gotta marry kind of what the attorneys want, what the brand marketing wants,

what makes sense, you know, from a consumer.

Because again, they're getting a message from, you know, your brand that now is on a brand

new phone number, people might even think it's spam.

Ernesto: Yeah.

Derek: So, there's a ton of things to go into when moving your subscribers to a new short

code.

Ernesto: Yeah.

Correct.

Derek: Perfect.

Okay, sounds good.

Again, my name is Derek Johnson with Tatango.com.

And I'm talking to TCPA attorney, Ernesto Mendieta.

And we're answering questions about TCPA compliance for text message marketing that are coming

from the interwebs.

and falling in Love with it!

along with progression came reminders I still had lots to learn

my ribs still hurt a little from that one!

With my new found love for downhill, a Full Suspension bike was inevitable!

Enter the 2018 Giant Reign 2 from ToWheels in London Ontario!

With the new bike came new confidence!

Confidence to overcome my fears

Confidence to ride faster and harder

and confidence to try new challenges

and also a reminder not to be too over confident!

I'm alright

I thought I had it

I was going too slow over that... you're a maniac.. I don't even know who you are anymore!

who said progression was going to be easy?

I got to ride with subscribers for the first time

It was nice being able to put a face to the name

We also had our first group ride at the Hydrocut this fall

Then came the most exciting riding of the year at some east coast bike parks in the USA

Windrock Tennesee to start

it's a whole new level of biking for me!

and I quickly found out I was in way over my head!

some of my best riding of the year

progessing on jumps and drops

and gaining more confidence

Great Time!

Thunder Mountain In Massechusetts

We had a great time there working on our jump progression

not afraid to get a little bit of air

definitely need more work, but it's a great start

Business Accelerator 🚀 - Duration: 5:15.

hello there this is John Ruman and I want to tell you about the Business

Accelerator course which starts in January so if we have not met before my

name is John Ruman and I'm an international business coach consultant

and trainer and my mission and passion is to help you achieve the greatness

which you deserve and know about so let me tell you a little about the course

this is actually starting the 9th of January it's gonna go every week until

the 20th of February and here's basically what we'll be covering as a

whole first week will be all about goal-setting I will actually have a

goal-setting session with you to help you to find out where you want to go

with your business we're gonna talk about the mindset of success and things

you can actually do to help master and upgrade the way you're thinking and

improve yourself talk class 2 which is on the 16th of January will all be about

financial management understanding KPIs understanding what to pay attention to

when it comes to money the importance of understanding cash flow and how to

actively manage it class 3 which is the 23rd of January forgive the typo there

there's all about product and service development in other words creating

things that actually sell upgrading them improving them and having them reach a

broader market the next is the 30th of February which is all about social media

this is a kind of a short and more concise version of a full course for

that class but it will give you enough fundamentals to help you to move forward

and improve what you're doing with your social media the next is all about sales

customer service and referrals again this will kind of be a really key points

on maximizing leads next will be team development and upgrading your office

space a lot of people if they don't have teams are moving towards gaining teams

and this will be necessary to help you to move in that direction and last but

not least is kind of the last week which is talked about time management

delegation creating systems of processes this is how you scale and again I'll be

hitting fundamentals on a lot of these classes

so be if you know who I am and what I've done I teach a lot of these courses in

depth so this will kind of be the hard-hitting points but if you ever want

to go super deep you can just take one of my courses but this will give you a

huge amount of value so let me tell you how these courses will run this class

will be entirely done online I'm going to actually stream live to you on

Facebook and a private Facebook group and in that Facebook group the class

will actually have an hour that I'm teaching live and you can ask me

questions live which I welcome and encourage and it'll be great and we will

have immediate correspondence I plan on 30 minutes of Q&A but if there's a lot

of questions while the class is going on what I'll try to do is teach the hour

answer questions as they come up because I'm sure there will be some clarity that

I need to improve on and then the last half hour I will really go deep into the

questions that you have to really help you to best understand and maximize the

success if there's areas you want me to go deeper in I'll be happy to do that

the again this will be a private group with just you and a handful of other

individuals the times that you see in the previous slide are based on that

initial group they were probably will be more than one group because the pricing

is very affordable for this and I will just add those times as they come up so

if you have questions and when you have questions throughout the week I will

answer them so my job and my duty in this course is to help you to maximize

the success of your business so questions that come up

I encourage welcome them and we'll happily answer them I may even do a

couple impromptu lives just answer some questions because it's easier and faster

for me to answer questions live in the group than it is to actually type things

out because I'm just quicker and easier for me as you can tell I'm always doing

lives so last but not least do you really want to take your business to the

next level if you do this course series is for

you so any questions you have I welcome them I would be delighted to help you to

step up your game this year this course series is designed to be

cost effective so anyone can do it but also to have a huge amount of value so

that you can truly take your business to the next level and again this course

will be designed with a lot of high value items in every class there will

not be much fluff I don't play that game so this series will be a lot of high

value information that you'll absolutely love and I promise to you it will far

exceed any expectations you have so again register now and any questions

that you have I welcome and encourage them thank you so much I look forward to

seeing you in January

Public 🎤 Speaking: Overcoming Nervousness - Duration: 7:11.

most of you watching this life will be more scared if I were to have you speak

to a group of 50 individuals than to be killed it actually is a bigger fear for

people to speak publicly than it is to actually transition out of those life

and what I would like to invite you is the opportunity to I'm gonna explore

this today and we'll also explore why that is and I'll give you some clues as

to how to actually overcome that so you can actually feel powerful and confident

and get your message out there so that you are finally delivering the message

you want if we have not met before my name is John Ruman and I'm an

international business coach consultant and corporate trainer but also I speak

constantly and I'm doing courses upcoming about public speaking so one of

the biggest challenges people have is John I get frickin nervous and I do not

know what to do so this live will help you to overcome

that so first of all what are the causes of nervousness well primarily it is a

result of when you are young and you had a situation where you were made to feel

that you embarrassed yourself people laughed at you you felt somehow belittle

or less than usually before the age of seven

the reason is your brain is in the favored receptive mode so most people

after that time have a great deal of fear because many people have one or

more of those emotional experiences if you're one of the rare people who

doesn't have that congratulations and get out there and start speaking if

you're one of the people that does have that let me tell you how I personally

overcome it so first and foremost the easiest way or one of the primary

reasons people feel insecure about public speaking is that they feel that

someone in the audience is judging them that they are why I'm like a hawk

stur syndrome where they feel like why do why should the people out there be

listening to me as well as a myriad of other insecurities so the important

thing is to understand that most everyone has this at some level shape or

form before they go out publicly speaking and even the people who appear

to be in the most confident can often be the most nervous so don't worry about

how the appearances are the important thing is how to make it so that when

you're out there that you can actually overcome this and feel awesome so a few

things that I do that I think would be beneficial for you one know a tremendous

amount of the knowledge of the actual topic at hand so if there is ever a Q&A

section of the talk that you're doing that you're able to answer questions

with confidence that's one and that's a biggie

that will really eliminate most of the impostor syndrome to practice get out

there get your voice heard record yourself do whatever you can anytime you

go for a drive you know take that opportunity to practice practice parts

of your speech I will literally if I have a talk speech whatever practice and

even up until the drive on my way to the location self-talk so when you

especially as you hit the emotional insecurities then they come up when they

pop up when they come and hit you it's important that you use self-talk like I

was born for this and you and you say it's handful of times I would say seven

to ten times and you're gonna say like I got this I am born to give this talk

these people are gonna love me and you're gonna say it over and over and

over again pretty much like a mantra between 60 and 90 seconds after doing

this your brain will begin believing what you are telling it so this is a

great way to overwrite limiting beliefs you have in your life about what you're

going to do is you're going to do this before

like when practicing so your practice has more

confidence and to understand that the more you practice and overcome this

it'll be like a mini practice round and when you actually have the real deal

won't be as big a deal and last but not least is I would encourage you to

practice the Superman or superwoman pose which is quite simply hands on your hips

body tall shoulders relaxed hands on your hips

and you're basically to breathe through your belly and do a timer for seven to

ten minutes this is a great time by the way you could do the self-talk then and

then just have the timer going on your phone and then tell yourself how amazing

you are how much is people gonna love you all that kind of good stuff so very

impactful stuff and practice this if you would like more help with this I am

having you workshop it'll be three hours and it'll be on the date of the 27th of

February 2019 it'll be from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. is

actually gonna be three back-to-back events that day you only have to attend

this at all I'm gonna try to make you attend more than one but if you have an

interest you can this one again is 2 to 5 p.m. the investments 500 TT prepay 600

on the day there's only a handful of spots so if you are interested it

actually may sell out this one had a strong interest last time but also from

12:30 to 1:30 I'm doing a stress management workshop and then I'm doing a

woman's only confidence and self-defense course from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. so we'll

have three back-to-back classes if you're interested in attending more than

one I will have a discount available for you so any other further questions you

have about the public speaking I will post the link to the bottom as a comment

so you can check it out or I'll make it even part of the title so thank you for

watching this and I'm excited to hear about how you are achieving more and

more confidence as you speak please give me feedback

two questions you're having because we all need to overcome the insecurities we

have when speaking and when you do this you will feel more and more confident

and more awesome and more powerful and your message does need to be said and

heard by those in the world so get your message out there get over this come to

my workshop let me help you practice the tools that gave you today and let me

know how awesome you're doing take care I look forward to seeing you one of your

talk someday

How To Have The Best Year Ever - Duration: 28:31.

TERRI: I read where New Year's goals, those are things that go

in one year and out the other. They say 93% of New Year's

goals go unfulfilled. Thirty percent are broken the first

week. I want to talk to you about how to move into the 7%

who achieve their goals and live their dreams.

(Music)

TERRI: Hey, I'm Terri Savelle Foy. I'm glad you're

watching Live Your Dreams today. I've prayed that

as you invest in yourself today, you're captivated

and catapulted to live your dreams. Obviously, I'm

passionate about teaching people to go after the dreams, the

goals, the vision that God's put in your heart. It blesses me to

receive testimonies from people all over the world who are truly

living their dreams no matter how big or how small they are.

I've received testimonies from people who have lost 75 pounds,

another who saved $100,000 when she didn't even get started till

she was 57 years old, another who got her realtor's license or

went on mission trips, gotten books published, paid off debts,

opened restaurants, gotten college degrees, even launched

ministries. I even got a testimony from a girl who, at 15

years old, she saved $7,000 to go on a mission trip in 11

months time. She didn't even have a full time job. She's 15

years old, saves $7,000 in 11 months time. You think about it.

You may have a credit card that you've been paying or a student

loan paying year after year after year, but this little

15-year-old girl went on a mission trip, $7,000 in 11

months. Why? Because she got crystal clear on her vision. She

got specific about it. She knew how to target her faith for

those dreams. I like to teach people the principles from the

word of God about having a dream, having a vision. God's

the one who said, "Where there is no vision, the people

perish." God also said in Habakkuk 2:2, to take the time

to write the vision and make it plain. That's what these people

are doing. They're writing their vision, they're getting specific

about it. You can hear messages like this and get excited and

think, "That's encouraging, that's cool. I'm going to do

that one day." But until you really put action behind your

faith, it's just going to be another year like last year. In

fact, I heard a story from, and I put it in my book on making

vision boards work, it was a friend of mine who said, for

years she would tell her kids, "Let's believe to God to go to

Florida on vacation." The kids like, "Yeah, yeah, let's go to

Florida." They live in Dallas, Fort Worth. Years would go by

and they never went to Florida. Finally she thought, I'm going

to do this. I'm going to get serious about my vision. She

said, "I've heard Terri talk about vision boards, I'm going

to make a vision board of Florida." She put time into

this. She put palm trees, sandy beaches. She put Disney

characters, that they would go to Disneyworld. She put the

hotel, the resort, then she did this, she counted the cost of

the trip. She went online, found out how much would it cost to

take me and my husband, and I think it was four kids, to

Orlando, Florida from Dallas Fort Worth, what would it cost.

She put the cost on there. What would the hotel cost? What would

Disneyworld cost? She put all this time and effort into this

vision board, added up the cost and then put it before her eyes.

Well, when the kids saw, "That's what Florida means? When you say

we're going to Florida, that's what you're talking about?"

Well, they got excited. Well, she thought, "That's not enough.

I can't just put this in my closet or in the laundry room.

The kids are never going to see it. Nobody is going to be using

their faith board." She said, "I've got to put this in a

prominent place where everybody sees it." She put it at the

front door. Every day when the kids go out to school, they see

the vision. When they come home from school, they see the

vision. Well, they started using the words of their mouth

speaking to that vision. The Bible says, "We serve a God who

gives life to the dead and he speaks of non-existent things as

if they already exist." They started speaking to the vision.

Well then, she thought, "I need to kick it up a notch." She went

and got a little box and put "vacation fund" on the box. She

got this little table, put it under the vision board, so every

day the kids see the vision and then they're targeting their

faith, believe in God for the finances. Well, the kids were so

excited. They're using their faith for this vision. When they

got birthday money, when they were blessed with money, when

they made money, they'd put it in the vacation fund. When

people would come by and visit, they give to the vacation fund.

For me, example, I would see it and say, "Vision? I got to give

to vision." I'd put money in the box. Do you know this single

income family of six or seven, went to Orlando, Florida

absolutely paid for, paid cash for the whole trip. That's the

power of having a vision and keeping it before your eyes.

This is from the word of God. God shows us in his word that we

become what we behold. That whatever you keep before your

eyes, it will eventually show up in your life. What are you

beholding? What are you looking at on a day-in, day-out basis? I

like to teach people about having vision boards and getting

serious about it, but the opposite is true. I'm convinced,

if you see nothing, you can expect nothing. This year will

be an exact repeat of last year if you don't have a vision, if

you don't have goals before your eyes. You might say, "Well,

Terri, what is it about a vision board?" A vision board doesn't

make your dreams just magically appear but it's what the clarity

and the realization of the dream does to you that makes it come

to pass. I've heard the late Kenneth Hagin. He said he would

see people praying at the altar and he'd gently tap them on the

shoulder and he'd say, "Sweetheart, what are you

praying about?" He said so many times people would say, "Oh,

nothing in particular." He said, "Then that's exactly what you're

going to get, nothing in particular." I don't know about

you but if the Lord ask me today, "Terri, what are you

praying about?" I'd say, "Lord, here it is. Here's my faith in

action. This is exactly what I'm praying about." I think the Lord

wants to see your faith. He wants to see exactly what you're

believing for. The success world, movie stars, celebrities,

athletes, CEOs, they practice this. In fact, I read a story

about Arnold Schwarzenegger. When he was just a young

Austrian, a teenager in Austria, he said he decorated his bedroom

wall right next to his bed, there was this big wall he

decorated with pictures. He said, "I hung up pictures of

strong men, body builders, wrestlers, and boxers. I was

driven to think big, to dream big." He said, "Everyone else

thought I was crazy." He said, "But what you do is create a

vision of who you want to be and then live into that picture as

if it were already true." Of course, he achieved his dream of

becoming Mr. Universe, I don't know how many times, but he

started with a vision of where he wanted to go, where he wanted

to be. You might even ask, "How do you start? I don't even know

how to get started. I don't even know what my dreams are." In

fact, I had a friend who, she started hosting vision board

parties and using our materials to teach women to dream, she

said, "The biggest challenge she faced was people said, "I don't

even know what my dreams are. I don't even know where to start."

One of the ways I would say to get started, get in touch with

your dreams, I love this story I heard about Will Smith, the

actor. Someone was visiting his house one day and when they

walked in his house, he had this big glass wall with all these

little index cards, like 150 index cards all over the wall.

They asked him, they said, "What is that?" He said, "Well that's

my next movie I'm working on." He said, "You know, every good

movie has ups and downs, good characters, bad characters,

conflicts, victory." He said, "I just move these cards around

until I get it the way I want it." The friend said, "That

looks so confusing." He said, "How do you even know where to

start?" Will Smith said, "That's the easy part." He said, "You

always start with the final scene. You decide how you want

it to end and then you work towards it." Well, it's the same

in your vision, with your dreams, with your goals. You

decide, "How do I want it to end? How do it want the next 12

months of my life to end?" God's the one who said he declares the

end from the beginning. That's what you need to do. How do you

want this year to end? How do you want the next 12 months of

your life to wrap up? In fact, I always tell people, this is one

of the best ways I know to get in touch with your goals and

your dreams this year. Imagine it's December 31 of this year.

It's New Year's eve, you got your party hat on, you're

celebrating with your friends, and you look back over the year

and you say, "This has been the most amazing year of my life."

Now, what needs to happen for you to say something like that?

What needs to happen for you to say, "This has been the greatest

year of my life?" What does that mean? Does that mean that you

paid off your debts? Does that mean you lost 15 pounds? Does

that mean your marriage was restored? Does that mean you got

a promotion in the company? Maybe you finished a manuscript

you've been saying you're going to write for years. What needs

to happen for you to say, "This has been the greatest year of my

life?" You project forward and then you work backwards. You

start working towards that dream. The most successful

people in the world, they grab a pen, Texas size

preferably. They write their dreams and goals. I heard a

story about a guy who, his dream was to be a UFC champion. His

name was John "The Bones" Jones. He said he would sign his

autograph on his pictures as the UFC champ in 2011. Now, he did

this in 2009, 2010. He would sign his name as the champion in

2011. People would even say to him, "How do you have the nerve,

the audacity, to sign your name as a champ?" He said, "You know

what? Every time I write it, I believe it even more." Do you

know John "The Bones" Jones? He became the youngest champion in

UFC history in May of 2011. There's power in the pen, power

in writing your vision. Take the time. Don't let this just be

exactly like last year. After you design your vision board and

you take the time to write your dreams, it's vitally important

that you keep the images before your eyes. This is not something

you do, January 1, put it in a closet somewhere, and then on

December 31, you'd get it out to see if anything just happened.

No, here's the principle. Your life moves toward the dominating

images you keep before your eyes. I'll repeat that. Your

life moves toward the dominating images you keep before your

eyes. The keywords are, "that you keep before your eyes", you

become what you behold. Now, when we come back, I want to

challenge you because some people say, "Well, I've done

that but what do I do once the board is up? I've

taken the time to write my dreams. I've given myself

permission to dream, I'm dreaming outside the realm of

possibility, but now what? What do I do while I'm waiting? What

do I do while the board's just hanging on the wall? I want to

answer that question when we come back. Watch this.

TERRI: Hey, I'm glad you're watching today.

We're talking about the power of having a vision and even

creating a vision board to live your dreams. I remember as a kid

growing up, I'll go into my dad's office and I would see all

these little model airplanes all over his office, all over his

desk, and I thought, "Dad just likes toys." But do you know

what? That was vision. Those were his visions for his

airplanes. As a result, he has owned every airplane that he had

a little model of on his desk. That was no different than

creating a vision board to get clear about the dreams and the

goals that God's put in your life. I've watched TV shows

where people talked about vision boards and success coaches talk

about it. I thought, "You know what? If they're getting

results, what would happen for me if I did the same thing and

knowing that this comes from the word of God, I bet I'd get

results." I started doing that, just giving myself permission to

dream, and everything I begin to write down and keep before my

eyes, it began happening. I've shared this all over the world,

and I've gotten testimonies from people achieving their dreams of

seeing their greeting cards in bookstores or marriages

restored, or, I remember a church in England. They said for

years they were believing for TV equipment. Finally, they heard

me teach on this, on getting specific what you're believing

for, don't you say we're playing for TV equipment. What kind of

equipment? Vague goals produce vague results. They did the

homework. They researched the equipment they needed. They

found out how much it cost. They put the vision on a vision

board, in their church, in their offices. You know what? A TV

station around the corner called in and said, "We're going out of

business. We're leaving. Do you want some of this equipment?"

They got every single thing that was on the vision board. I

received this testimony, I thought this was so powerful. It

was about a lady who said, "You know, after listening to our

teachings, she was inspired to start a dream party, which I

then put in my book, how to host a vision board party? She said

she was getting everybody in her church excited about their

vision boards and getting clear on their dreams and goals. She

said, since it was established, we have had some great

testimonies. But I believe the most powerful one is the most

recent one about my nephew, Andrei. She said Andrei had been

waiting for a new kidney for over 10 years because both of

his kidneys have failed. She said Andrei's mom created a

dream board and put a picture of Andrei with a picture of a new

kidney based on what he had drawn for her. She kept the

dream of her son receiving his new kidney before her eyes

consistently. Your life moves toward the dominating images you

keep before your eyes. Every day, that new kidney was before

her eyes. She said, "And guess what? After 10 years of waiting

but only 4 months of keeping that dream before her eyes,

Andrei received his brand new kidney. Isn't that awesome? I

love that. See God is no respecter of persons. He just

wants us to do what he said to do. You've heard stories of Ms.

Dodie Osteen, how when she was diagnosed with terminal cancer.

She said when she looked in the mirror, she saw death, she saw

this weak, frail. deteriorating body. She said, "I knew I've got

to change what I see if I'm going to get victory over

cancer." She did, basically, the same thing. She said, "I covered

my wall with pictures of me before the cancer where she was

healthy and alive and full of energy. She said, "I'd put them

all over the refrigerator door. She said, "I'd put them in all

the picture frames in the house." She said, "I had to

surround myself with what could be not what it was." That's what

you're doing. When you create a vision board, you're surrounding

yourself with what can be not just what is. That's the power

of vision. So many times, when you visit someone at their

house, you see all these pictures of the past. The

graduation, the wedding, the birth of the baby, and that's

great. But hey, try framing your future. Get a frame, get a

vision board, and start framing where you want your life to go.

Of course, you have to visualize. You have to see it on

the inside first before it ever shows up on the outside. But

then, when you start adding images, then you're seeing it on

the outside and it just looks more real. It causes that dream

to come alive on the inside of you. You become more determined

than ever to see that dream fulfilled. I want to challenge

you to do the same thing. What do you do once the vision board

is up? What do you while you're waiting for that dream? Do you

know that the most powerful weapon that God has given you is

your mouth? This is the most powerful weapon you have to see

your dreams achieved. You can't just sit around and wait and

wish. You have to use your words to live your dreams. This comes

from the word of God. God's the one who said in Romans 4:17, "We

serve a God who gives life to the dead and he speaks of

non-existent things as if they already exist." What's coming

out of your mouth has everything to do with what you're

experiencing. Think about that. What's coming our of your mouth

has everything to do with what you're experiencing. Your words

are a tool to help you achieve your dreams. I've read stories

of people, successful people, celebrities who have actually

used their words to not only produce defeat but in some cases

even death. I remember hearing a story about John Lennon of the

Beatles. He was asked in an interview one time, do you ever

plan to leave show business? He said, "Oh, unless I get shot or

something." In a different interview, he said, "I'll

probably be murdered by a mad man," and he was. You may not be

speaking words of death, I hope you're not, but are you speaking

negative things? Are you saying things like, "I'll never get out

of debt. This marriage will never improve. No matter what I

do, I can't lose weight." You know as well as I do that the

Bible says, we are snared by the words of our mouth. We know a

snare is nothing more than a trap. When we speak these

negative words, we are trapped by our words. We're trapping

ourselves into the very thing we don't want to happen. If you're

saying things like, "I'll be the last one to get promoted." You

just rapped yourself into being the last one to get promoted.

Or, "I just have a slow metabolism, it runs in my

family." Yo just trapped yourself into always having a

slow metabolism. Or, "At this rate, seriously, we will be in

debt until we die." Okay, you will be in debt until you die.

You've heard of the Miranda rights, "Everything you say can

and will be sued against you"? It's true. Our words are so

powerful. I love what Joel Osteen says, "Don't use your

words to describe your life. Use your words to change your life."

That's what you have to do. When you create a vision board, start

speaking to those dreams, start giving them life with the words

of your mouth. I love what Joyce Mayer said, she heard the Lord

told her one time, "Joyce, it's not enough to stop saying the

wrong thing, you have to start saying the right thing." It's a

two-step formula. Number one, stop speaking negative words.

Number two, start speaking positive words. That takes a

pro-active approach doesn't it? It doesn't just come natural to

start speaking life to your dreams. But, one of the greatest

things you can do to see the images on your vision board come

to life, start speaking them out of your mouth. Start calling

things to be not as though they already are. Matthew 12:34, it

says, "Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks."

You might think that your dreams will never come to pass but

don't speak it. Just make it a part of your daily routine. When

I discovered years ago that the secret of your future is in your

daily routine, then I said, "You know what? I could do this every

day. I could do this before I run out the door to go to work."

I made a vision board, I hang it in a place where I'm going to

see it every day, which as important because out of sight,

out of mind. You know what? It's simple to go on there every day,

start giving life to my dreams, speaking them out loud and then

I just say, "Thank you, Jesus." I act as if it's already done. I

want to challenge you to do the same thing. I put in my book a

list of positive declarations to speak out of your mouth. You can

use mine as a cheat sheet if you want. It's one thing to speak

those positive declarations but also speaking God's word out of

your mouth. There is nothing more powerful than speaking the

word of God out of your mouth. I put some of my favorite

scriptures in here like 2nd Chronicles. It says, "I will be

strong and not give up for my work will be rewarded." God is

giving me the desires of my heart and making all my plans

succeed. I delight myself in the Lord and he will give me the

desires of my heart. What about this one? I will not throw away

my confidence for it will be richly rewarded. When you start

speaking God's word out of your mouth, you have gotten the ear

of God. I speak the word of God but I also speak to my dreams. I

want to challenge to do the same thing. Don't just complain about

things that aren't happening. Don't just wish things would

change. Start giving life to your dreams by speaking them out

of your mouth. I want you to get this special bundle that we've

put together. I wish I could share more with you today but

this is my book, "Dream It, Pin it, Live It: Make vision boards

work for you". I've answered questions in here like, "What do

you do once the board is up? Where do you put the board? What

do you do while you're waiting?" I'll teach you how to grow on

the inside, how to develop that successful mindset, that

abundance mindset, where you just expect the favor of God.

You expect God to open up opportunities for you to live

your dreams. I'll talk about even how to host a vision board

party. We have churches all over the world who are getting the

vision board kits. They're reaching their team members how

to get serious about their dreams and goals. Everybody on

my team has a vision board. Is it a coincidence our dreams keep

happening? No. Because whatever you keep before your eyes, it

will eventually show up in your life. There's testimonies in

here that I know will encourage you. People who've gotten out of

debt, people who've seen marriages restored, people

who've opened up their own businesses like fitness centers,

day cares, gotten their realtor's license. I remember, a

story about a lady who drove a bus for 31 years. Nothing wrong

with driving a bus, but one day she just felt like, "God has

something else for me". At 57 years old, she started making a

vision board, getting serious about her dreams. Today, she's a

realtor in Vail, Colorado. It might be time for you to take a

new job, to realize that God has something more for you. I want

to challenge you to get this special offer, "Dream it, Pin

It, Live It", and then listen to the audios. Listen to them over

and over and over. The Bible says, "Faith comes by hearing."

When you get into that routine of just push and play, hearing

the word, faith is going to come. Maybe it's time for you to

fill up with God's plan for your live. Stop settling for average.

One time the Lord said to me, "Terri, don't be average and

your life won't be average." Up until that time, everything

about my life was average. My routine was average, my salary

was average, my dreams were average. I really didn't have

any dreams. But the Lord said to me, don't be

average and your life won't be average. I remember I had to

make some changes so I went online, and I remember I bought

$60 worth of resources, books and audios. When they rang it

up, I was like, "I can't believe I just spent $60 bucks on books

and audios." Then I thought, "I would easily spend that on

clothing. This is my future we're talking about." Do you

know, the most valuable thing in my house today is my books and

audios because that's what taught me how to go from being

average to being above average. That's what taught me how to go

from having an ordinary life to having an extraordinary life.

God will do the same for you, as long as you just have to make an

investment in your self, an investment in your future.

That's why we've put these resources together, we

discounted the price so that you can start living your dreams. Of

course, the workbook, this is going to teach you the right way

to set goals. I was talking about how 93% of people who set

goals, they go unfulfilled. They'll still teach how to get

into that 7% category who live their dreams. I don't want you

to delay. In fact, they say when you get inspired to do

something, if you don't do something about it within 24

hours, chances are, you never will. If God's speaking to you

today, then get these resources and I want you to send me your

testimony of living your dreams. We're here to cheer you on. I

always tell people, "Don't look at the years you've lost. Let's

look at the years you've got left, because God wants to use

you. He wants to favor your. He wants to promote you. But I

believe he has challenged you. Kick I up a notch. Go from

average to extraordinary. Don't let this year just be another

repeat of all the other years. It's time for you to go the

extra mile. I want to thank you so much for watching us, be sure

Do I need sales training? I have the best product on the market! - Duration: 4:43.

this question we get constantly the question is do I need sales training I

have the greatest product or service on the market hi my name is John Ruman

international business coach and consultant I help run the sales training

academy with the real 007 Mr. Roger Moore let me tell you why

everyone and every single organization needs sales training it's not a matter

of quality have you ever seen the crappiest tip most terrible company

still excel in business interesting how that works right here's the thing the

best product doesn't mean it's gonna sell because unless no one knows that

it's the greatest product or even if it is the greatest product but it's not

priced properly or it's not marketed properly all these things need to come

together for you to actually have a company that will succeed and produce

the sales you're looking for so before you go crazy and before you say I

already know what I'm doing my product will sell itself

good luck how many great products have you seen in the past that are

exceptional but do not sell I would love to hear your feedback actually so those

who watch this video and got this far please do me a favor what products do

you know that do not exist exist now that were awesome in many respects but

are no longer on the market so I'm just gonna give you things that come to mind

top of my head okay for example there's an automaker

in the u.s. called Saturn and Saturn had a lot of things going for it that no one

else replicated and they had some really nice things again it's not the perfect

example but I'll give you why I thought they were exceptional

one of the biggest problems that vehicles have is the vehicles have

exteriors that when they get hit they crumple and they scratch easily

so what Saturn did is actually came up with an exterior shell that was a

plastic composite that if it got bumped it would not crumple and require it to

be replaced or something like that also the because of this people would

have cars that looked almost new years after they'd been around so it just

really made them stand out so so long story short whether you know or not

Saturn does not exist anymore it's no longer here as a company why there's

many things but I think they didn't sell one of the things that really set them

apart if you have something in your business that makes you exceptional it

could be price most people it's not being the lowest priced competitor is

usually the worst option because there's always someone who's trying to outdo you

price-wise but there are other aspects that you could be focusing on that would

make your business more prolific and have better sales besides a better sales

force having a better customer service aspect having better service and

warranty while it is soda fix it or maybe a higher quality product in the

end such that it wouldn't break down and may

last longer or may have other benefits again you want to sell on benefits so

long story short why do you need sales training because sales training will

sell your product whether it's good batters in between and the better you

have your sales team trained the better and sooner you can actually succeed and

get ahead of those who think having the best product makes you have a successful

business good luck it doesn't work so do me a favor and

share this with friends who you think would value tag them also if you have an

interest in taking any of the courses in sales training do me a favor and like

and follow this page so you get notifications as will be posting soon

our upcoming workshop so we have six weeks sales training

coming up in early 2019 as well as cold calling workshops and possibly even a

customer service workshop as well so to your continued success I wish you all

the best I look forward to seeing you then take care

Ion Propulsion - The Plane With No Moving Parts - Duration: 9:34.

This episode of Real Engineering is brought to you by Skillshare, home to over 20,000

classes that could teach you a new life skill.

Last month MIT revealed their ion propelled plane.

The product of 7 years of development and the first of its kind.

A plane capable of sustained powered flight with no moving parts in it's propulsion

system.

Just as the Wright Brothers announced to the world that powered flight was possible, this

flight lays down a milestone for ion drive technology that could pave the way to future

investment and development.

It has the potential to drastically improve propulsion technology.

Having no moving parts is a benefit that cannot be understated.

Parts can be made lighter as they no longer need to survive the stress of movement.

Reduced stress means reduced maintenance and costs, but perhaps the most immediate benefit

we can garner from this technology is reduced noise.

With no noisy combustion or rotating aerodynamic surfaces stirring up the air, these planes

are like gliding owls.

A characteristic military contractors will be eager to take advantage of.

But with current limitations, this may take some time to come to market.

Let's investigate just how this new technology works, and where it needs to improve in order

to compete with current technology.

This technology has been in development for decades now with many spacecraft already using

variations on the idea to achieve highly efficient thrust systems.

These engines work on a similar principle to the ion propulsion of the MIT plane, albeit

in a very different environment that lends itself to the technology.

Take the NSTAR ion drive aboard the now retired Dawn spacecraft.

This spacecraft used xenon as a propellant, because it has a high atomic mass allowing

it to provide more kick per atom, while being inert and having a high storage density lending

itself to long term storage on a spacecraft.[1] The engine releases both xenon atoms and high

energy electrons into the ionization chamber, where they collide to produce a positive xenon

atom and more electrons.

These electrons are then collected by the positively charged chamber walls, while the

positive xenon atoms migrate towards the chamber exit which contains two grids.

A positive grid called the screen grid, and a negative grid called the accelerator grid.

The high electrical potential between these grids causes the positive ions to accelerate

and shoot out of the engine at speeds up to 145, 000 kilometres per hour.

At that speed even the tiny xenon atoms can provide a decent bit of thrust, but even still

this engine provides a maximum of 92 milli Newtons of force.

About the same force a piece of paper will exert while resting on your hand.

But in the vacuum of space there is no air to sap away the precious energy we provide.

With no drag or friction to remove energy we gradually build up our kinetic energy and

gain speed.

The dawn spacecraft weighed about 1220 kilograms at launch with a dry mass of 750 kilograms

after the propellant had been expended, so lets say it has an average weight between

the two of 1000 kilograms.

Rearranging the force equals mass by acceleration equation, we can calculate the acceleration

this engine could provide at 0.000092 metres per second squared.

A tiny acceleration, but multiple by a week (604800 seconds) and our spacecraft is flying

at 55.6 m/s.

Multiple it by a year and it's flying at 2898 metres per second, that's 8.5 mach.

The latest generation ion drives, dubbed the NEXT engine, can produce three times the force

and has been tested continuously without stopping for 6 years straight here on earth.

That's enough force to accelerate that 1000 kilograms to 44651 m/s, 130 times the speed

of sound.

[1]

This is an incredible technology, that will revolutionise how we explore space in the

near future, but here on earth it has a completely different set of challenges.

Here on earth planes pose a completely different challenge.

Air will continuously sap away any energy we input into our vehicle through drag, and

so we need to create an ion drive that can provide more energy than air can remove while

travelling fast enough to achieve flight.

Not an easy task and the fact MIT have managed it is mind blowing.

Let's see how they did it.

They first needed to optimize their plane design for the application.

Reducing weight to minimize the energy required to maintain height, and minimising drag to

reduce any energy losses to the air.

They did this using something called geometric programming optimization, which allows designers

to specify constraints and design criteria to a programme which will then find the optimal

design.

[2]

After running multiple computer simulations they settled on a plane with a 5 metre wingspan

and a weight of 2.56 kilograms.

It would require a flight speed of 4.8 metres per second with a thrust of 3.2 Newtons [3].

3.2 Newtons is vastly more than anything achieved by NSTAR or NEXT engines, but they don't

work in entirely the same way.

Ion drives for space need to carry atoms to be bombarded, within earth's atmosphere there

is no shortage of atoms to ionize and accelerate and this helps counteract some of the negatives

of the drag they also induce.

The planes propulsion comes from an array of ion drives carried below the wing.

The positive anode was a thin steel wire, which helped minimise the drag it induced.

While the cathodes were foam aerofoils covered in thin aluminium, these being light and capable

of producing lift to offset their weight.

In this case nitrogen is ionized and attracted across the electric field induced by the 20

thousand volts of electric potential between them.

The nitrogen ions collide with neutral air molecules along the way to a provide additional

thrust.

Creating something called ionic wind.

Getting that 20 thousand volts of alternating current is really the most difficult part

and the team had to design their own lightweight high-power voltage converter to step-up the

200 volts of direct current drawn from their lithium polymer batteries.

This energy storage conundrum, as explained in my electric planes video, is the biggest

challenge facing any technology like this.

So how does this compare to conventional propulsion methods regarding thrust to power ratios?

A typical jet engine achieves a thrust to power ratio of 3 Newtons per kilowatt, while

helicopter rotors achieve a power to thrust ratio of about 50 Newtons per kilowatt (N

kw-1).

This ion propelled plane is estimated to have achieved a thrust to power ratio of 6.25 Newtons

per kilowatt.

So, if we could find a way of powering these devices that didn't require heavy batteries,

could these ion propulsion engines be used?

[3]

Scaling these propulsion method is not easy, and individual electrode pairs have their

limit in the current they can pass between them via ion transport, due to limits in voltage

and choked flow within the electric field [4], just as air can become choked within

a constricted pipe.

This affects something called the thrust density, which is the area over which the thrust is

applied.

Jet Engines have a very high thrust density at over 10,000 Newtons per metres squared,

so we can produce a great about of force with relatively low area.

This plane achieved a thrust density of 3 Newtons per metre squared, so it is generating

very little force over a very large area.

We can just about manage to provide enough force with 4 3 racks and 2 rows of these electrodes

hanging far below the wing, for a plane this light and slow.

The issue here is the same issue that prevents batteries from being a viable solution for

planes, power requirements do not scale linearly with the mass of the plane, they increase

with the square of the mass.

While the power requirements to overcome drag increases with the cube of the velocity.

So our ion propulsion power will need to scale with it, but we cannot simply hang racks and

racks of these electrodes beneath our plane.

They, along with the structures required to support them would cause far too much drag,

and in turn flight surfaces would need to scale to counteract the pitching moment this

would cause, causing even more drag.

This technology is still in its infancy and there are engineers far more intelligent than

I working to figure out ways to apply it.

Just think that 114 years ago the Wright Flyer managed to fly just 35 metres in it's 11

second first flight.

This ion propelled plane managed 55 metres in 12 seconds, and who knows where we will

be in 100 years time.

We as a species are continually growing and learning how to apply these principles.
