You are pretty.
That was pretty.

You look like an orange.

Sujata (HD) {With English Subtitles) - Nutan - Sunil Dutt - Lalita Pawar - - Duration: 2:25:38.
Please, rest assured.
I will inform sir about everything when he comes.
Brother, why are they here?
The people from colony near site number two are suffering from Cholera.
People are scared and are running away.
They have come to request you. - A new problem!
Mr. Das, call up..
..at the headquarters and arrange for medical aid.
I will check the site number 2 today itself..
..because I won't be able to come tomorrow.
It's my daughter's birthday. Hurry up!
Listen, Charu. Aunt hasn't come.
The car returned without her from the station. - Why?
She had written to us that she'll meet us on her way to Kashi.
Some urgent business might have come up.
It's our daughter's first birthday, and aunt won't be here.
The celebration will seem dull without her. - Yes.
We are not related to auntie, but she loves us so much..
..as our own ones wouldn't love us either.
It's time to give milk to the baby.
Ok, take her. I will dress her after that.
Look, this is Rama's new frock.
Wow! It's very nice.
So it's your daughter's birthday today, eh?
No, it's your daughter's birthday today.
And what will be next year? - Another birthday of Rama.
Hey, will it be only Rama's birthday every year?
Mind you! I can't handle one..
I don't want more. - Sir!
Who is it?
What's the matter, watchman? - This baby, sir.
What will happen to her now? - What will happen?
What do you mean? Whose daughter is she?
She's you're the daughter of your worker.
Why didn't he come to work today?
He has died, sir.
He and his wife fell prey to cholera.
Yeah this epidemic has spread all over.
But why have you brought their baby here?
She has no one of her own now, sir.
Who will look after her? - If you can have mercy..
No, no, I'm going to have guests in a while.
Leave for now.
Welcome. - Hello, uncle. - Hello, uncle.
Hello, uncle. - Hello, sister-in-law.
Wow! Very beautiful.
Nanny, take her.
I will have an ice-cream. - Ok, I'll get you one.
Badal! Get an ice cream.
Listen!
It's ok, child. It's ok. Don't cry.
Get in, madam.
Goodbye.
What's this? You all are still here with that child?
What's the matter, watchman? Whose child is it?
She's the daughter of our worker.
Her parents died today of cholera.
Take her, watchman. I can't help you.
We have only your support, sir.
Here, take these 10 rupees..
..and arrange something else for her.
Where do we take her, sir? She's of a very low caste.
There is no family of her caste in this village.
Then look in another village.
I will look, sir, but who will look after her till then?
Her parents were dead..
..and she was exposed to vultures and fox.
I reached there on time and the poor girl was saved.
O God!
Who would want to get into this mess, Charu?
They better take her away. - What do you mean?
That vultures and foxes take her away? - No, I mean..
Ayah! - Yes, ma'am?
Can you take care of this child for a few days?
Why not, madam? What am I here for?
Take her.
Give her a bath with hot water..
..and dress her with one of Rama's old frocks.
And keep her in your room. - Ok, madam.
You've been very kind, madam.
Find out someone from her caste soon. - Yes, sir.
It will take only a few days.
Goodbye, sir. Goodbye, ma'am. - Goodbye.
"Come slowly, little fairy."
"Come and fan my baby with your colorful wings."
"My little baby wants to sleep. Come slowly."
"Come and fan my baby with your colorful wings."
"My little baby wants to sleep."
"My baby shines like the moonlight. She's special."
"My baby shines like the moonlight. She's special."
"Moon, come to my house."
"Sing a sweet song slowly for her."
"Come and fan my baby with your colorful wings."
"If the silk rope is entangled in your legs."
"If the silk rope is entangled in your legs."
"If the toy makes sound."
"If my baby wakes up, come and sway her."
"Come and fan my baby with your colorful wings."
"My little baby wants to sleep. Come slowly."
Is it Rama crying or is it Sujata? - Sujata?
Yes, the other baby.
Oh, so you've already named her?
Why? Is it a bad name? - No, it's not that.
But it's like naming a nameless.
She's a girl of a low caste, and you've named her Sujata.
It just came to my mind.
Who is it in that carriage?
Charu! Perhaps it's auntie. - Auntie?!
Welcome, auntie. - Hey, don't jump, child!
You might sprain your leg.
This grandchild of mine gives me a hard time.
He's very naughty. - God bless you both.
Neither could you attend Rama's birthday party..
..nor did you send us any letter.
I had arranged to come over, but when I saw the almanac..
..it wasn't an auspicious time, so I stayed back.
He said that one shouldn't travel at such a time.
Meet him. He is Bhavani Shankar Sharma.
He is a very knowledgeable preacher.
Doing a Chandipath rite in the month..
..of the child's birth will bring good luck for her.
So I requested him a lot to come along.
Salutations, priest. - May you live long!
Madam hasn't introduced me rightly.
Actually, I am not a preacher, but a professor of English.
I do the Chandipath for my satisfaction..
..and for the welfare of others..
..who are keen on knowing true righteousness.
I wasn't keeping well for the last few days.
I thought I should go to a place with a different climate..
..and just then she requested me to come along.
So I came over. - Very well.
Please, stay here as long as you like.
I wish that my health improves and your luck changes.
Dear man, please arrange for a bath.
The dust of the entire journey is on my body.
Go and arrange for a bath for him. - Come, sage.
Please, go with him. - Ok.
Come in, aunt.
Come, child. - Let me see the baby. What have you named her?
Rama. - Rama? Wow! It's a very nice name.
Wait, Charu. I will put this Gangajal in the temple.
Please, come.
Charu, you know how auntie is.
She is very fussy about castes and untouchables.
Tell the ayah to keep that girl away. Don't let auntie see her.
Is this my Upen's daughter? Let me hold her for a while.
But.. she is.. - You feel more for her than her mother.
Very beautiful. Just like her mother.
Upen! Your daughter is very lucky.
Give her to the ayah. - Your daughter is very beautiful.
You won't have to worry about her marriage.
Look how she's smiling at me.
Perhaps she has recognized me.
Who is it crying inside?
Do you have twin daughters?
You never wrote that to me. - We don't have twins.
That's our daughter, Rama. - Then who is she?
Her parents died in an accident, so we..
But I hope she's from a decent family.
No. She's an untouchable. - Untouchable?
Shucks! Upen, I did not expect this from you.
You are from a high caste family. - But, auntie..
I don't want to hear anything.
If I knew that you had kept someone..
..of the low caste in your house, I wouldn't have come here.
Please listen, auntie..
Aunt, you've heard the whole story.
Now tell us, what would you do if you were in our place?
I still consider it injustice..
..what I've always considered injustice.
But, auntie, it was.. - Upen!
Don't argue because you've studied a few English books!
Sir! That priest with the ponytail is going away. - Going away?
Priest! What happened?
What's the matter, priest?
It's all God's wish.
I have to leave even when I do wish to leave.
The ayah told me and I saw that myself..
..that you are nurturing an untouchable girl in your house.
It's surprising! Is that why you are going?
There is nothing to be surprised of.
Our religions says that it's a sin not only..
..to touch an untouchable, but also to keep him with us.
You are an educated and intelligent person.
You must be knowing that science also says it. - What?
That a sort of gas is emitted from the untouchables' bodies.
And which dirties the body and soul of the decent people.
Have you ever seen that gas?
Do you know that there are vitamins in food? - Yes.
Have you ever seen those vitamins? - No.
Then is it false that there are vitamins in food?
Ok, I'll leave now.
You requested me to come along..
..but it's my bad luck that I couldn't stay longer.
Goodbye.
The priest is displeased and is going away.
Please stop him, auntie. - He won't stay back even if we ask.
I know him well. He is a very faithful priest.
I can tolerate your misconduct, but he will never forgive you.
What should we do now?
Get rid of this trouble as soon as possible.
I am saying that for your betterment.
It's no problem with me. I will be going to Kashi tomorrow.
Why are you silent? - What do I do?
I am beginning to get scared?
Because of what the priest said about that gas?
No, it's not that. But I hope we don't face misfortune.
We won't face any misfortune..
..but those who do injustice in the name of religion will.
Don't laugh away every matter.
Auntie also wishes that we get rid of that girl soon.
Look, tell the watchman to take her.
Sujata is here? Very lovely girl. Look how she.. - Ayah!
Why did you touch her?
Touching her washed away my caste, right? I'll take a bath now.
No, this is not a matter to joke about.
You're getting attached to her. - So that's the point?
Don't worry, Charu. I've arranged everything.
Arranged what? - The watchman told me that..
..he's found someone of Sujata's caste.
He will come tomorrow and take her.
Charu! Do we have a thermometer? - Yes. Why?
Ayah was telling me that that girl is having fever. - Fever?
There's illness all around these days. Look at her.
Yes, she has high fever.
See? You touched her! Now you'll have to take a bath.
So you were testing me.
Charu, it's not our fault.
People get attached to even animals they keep.
She's a human child after all.
My work will be done isn't it?
Yeah, it will be done.
Charu! The watchman has..
..brought a man who'll take Sujata with him.
Sir!
Sir!
Sir!
Greetings, sir.
I've found a man of the girl's caste to take her away.
What can I do? Tell the ayah to bring her. - Yes, sir.
Ayah! Ayah! Bring that baby.
Here.
Take this girl.
What will I do with only the girl?
Don't forget what we decided.
First I will take the money, then some clothes and some blankets.
Why would I take this girl for free?
Do you take me to be a fool?
Listen..
Is he drunk? - Well.. - Why are you scared?
Tell him that I have drunk. And I've drunk with my own money.
Why would I take this trouble with me without full money?
Throw that drunkard out of the house!
Watchman, take him away!
First become a human being yourself then take the baby.
You'll waste all the money you get on liquor.
Throw him out.
Ayah, take the girl in. - Yes.
That's better. We can't hand her to a low drunkard.
But it would be better if we hand her to someone soon.
She's a baby yet. What when she grows up?
No! It would be better to stay away from such attachments.
But where shall we keep her?
We are going to be transferred from here soon.
We will arrange something for her over there. Right?
Rama! Sujata! Come and drink the milk.
Why did you make me fall? - You fell down yourself.
You liar! I won't talk to you. - That's ok.
I'm going.
Mother! Father!
You'll fall down. Get down quickly.
Bapu (father)! Ammi (mother)!
Don't get naughty. Go and play.
Looks like it's ayah who has..
..taught Sujata to call us Bapu and Ammi.
That's true. Or she would..
..also call us mother and father like Rama does.
I won't talk to you. I won't talk to you.
Don't talk to me. Don't talk to me.
Wants to talk to me!
You don't have a mother. - You don't have an Ammi.
You don't have a father. - You don't have a Bapu.
Listen. You had told me that..
..we'll hand Sujata to someone as soon as we'd come here.
It's been four years since we shifted here.
But Sujata is still..
I tried a lot, but she's someone's trust with us.
Neither you nor I would like to give her away to just anyone.
That's true.
Can't we send her to an orphanage?
Sujata is trying to equal Rama in everything right from now.
We will face more troubles when she grows up.
Ok, I will look for some good orphanage.
And what about Rama's education?
I've talked to a master.
He'll come to teach her from tomorrow. - Father!
Father, are you eating Halwa? - Will you eat some, too?
Here.
What are you eating? - Halwa. - What?
Don't you know what Halwa is?
She keeps quarreling with Rama all the time.
Ayah was telling me that she also beats Rama sometimes.
They're still young kids.
Bapu! My Halwa?
Come. Come here.
Don't eat with that spoon. - Why?
Will you eat her leftover..
..just because you don't mind her being an untouchable?
Sujata! Take this flour. Can we make Puri out of it?
Yes, we can. Put it down.
Rama! See; there's new book and slate for you.
Your teacher is here. Come and study.
Where is my book? Won't I study, too? - No, you will play.
Why are you taking the book, Sujata? - I will study.
Don't touch those books. Your Bapu will get angry with you.
Brother Bahadur! Give me a book; I will read, too.
A book? I don't have any book, child.
Liar! Why do you joke with me? There's one book.
But it's Ramayana. - Fine; I will read Ramayana.
Sit down; I will tell you nice stories.
Teacher! I will study, too. Here's my book.
Will you study such a big book? - Yes.
Come, Sujata. You can't sit here. - No. I will study.
Listen, child.. - No! Let go of me! Let go!
Come on, dear.. - Let go.. - What happened?
Look, Bapu. She doesn't let me study.
Go, ayah. Go and study.
Who is that letter from? - Oh, Charu?
The orphanage I had wrote to has replied.
They are ready to keep Sujata.
This orphanage is quite famous.
Sujata won't face any problems there.
That's better.
Take a few days' leave and get her admitted there.
No.. I am too busy with my work. I won't get a leave.
So? Ok, ask the master. Perhaps he will..
Ok, I will ask him.
Yes, I got it. Don't you worry!
I will drop her there.
Please, meet the manager of the orphanage..
..and request him to take good care of Sujata.
Money is no problem. I will spend as much as needed. - Ok.
Master! I want to talk to you. - Yes, tell me.
Sujata has got much attached to us.
Please, persuade her to go.
We don't want her to know that she's being got rid of from here.
Very well.
Really, teacher? - Yes, child.
It's very far. That beautiful nation is beyond the place..
..where the earth and the sky meet.
You will be amazed to see it.
There are golden leaves on silver trees there..
..on which the woodpecker plays.
Will you go to that nation? - Yes, I will go.
I will take Rama along. - No, child, go alone for now.
Then you can come back..
..and surprise everyone with your stories of that place.
We can take Rama later. - Ok.
Listen! Listen, child. Be ready at five o'clock this evening.
Don't tell anyone about it.
I will come to take you in a car. - Ok.
Charu! The master told me that Sujata is ready to go with him.
He will come to pick her at 5 this evening.
Get everything ready.
Listen! I have an important..
..task at the office; I'll return late.
Bapu!
Here, take your hat.
You take it everyday; why did you forget today?
If I hadn't remembered, you'd be bothered with sunlight.
Yes, Sujata.
Sujata! Are you ready?
Yes, teacher. - Come.
Teacher! Won't Bapu come along? - No.
And Ammi? - No. - Then I won't go.
Listen, child. Your Bapu, Ammi, Rama have already left.
It's they who have sent me to take you. - Really?
Yes. - I'll go with you.
Ammi! Ammi!
There are sweets and lovely dolls in that land. - I don't want them.
Listen, Sujata.. - Ammi!
Ammi! Ammi!
Ammi! Ammi!
Ammi, the teacher is very bad.
He fooled me and was taking me away somewhere.
I won't take lessons from him now.
Are you crying, Ammi? Don't cry.
I won't leave you and go anywhere. Never!
Perhaps Sujata found out. - Yes.
I wished to see her when she was leaving.
I made a mistake. - Why do you call it a mistake?
It's not wrong. You're like her mother after all.
Perhaps this is what God wishes.
We had tried to get Sujata..
..out of the house once or twice before, but in vain.
If she considers this as her home, let her stay here.
When she grows up..
..we will find some way out with God's blessings.
Listen! You will get angry as soon as you hear this.
I've got orders for another transfer.
Which new jungle are we going to now?
Very far, to Dehradun. Start making arrangements.
There's no one around.
It's been many years since we met auntie.
We've come today without informing her.
Don't know if she'd recognize us.
Why wouldn't she recognize her?
Listen!
Who are you? - Didn't you recognize me?
You had come to our place once. - Wait.
I don't hear well nowadays. Let me put on the glasses.
Do you remember you had come to Madhupur once?
Yes, Jabalpur? - No, Madhupur, Madhupur!
Oh, Madhupur! - Hey! Upen? Charu?
God bless you. May you be happy!
You've remembered auntie after a long time.
Welcome. We'll go upstairs.
You still haven't got that girl of..
..he low caste out of your house?
And you've brought her till here?
I couldn't throw that orphan away. She's like our family now.
Don't say such a thing! Your family is so decent.
You belong to a great lineage. - What could we do, auntie?
Consider it our helplessness. - Wow!
This is no excuse.
You've been living in jungles and mountains..
..all these years where there's no one to gossip.
But now you are back to your society and community, dear.
You will have to follow the rules of the society.
If you keep that untouchable girl in your house..
..it will create problems for Rama's marriage.
That question rose in my mind, too, aunt.
But what do we do? We are confused. - No..
Where is Adheer? I don't see him around. Isn't he home?
What do I tell you, dear? He's gone to a library in the town.
He has his own library in the house..
..but that's not enough for him.
His education hasn't completed even after passing M.A.
Education never ends, aunt.
Allow us to leave now. - Bye. - God bless you.
Child! Where is Sujata? - What's the time?
I don't know how to check the time. - It's 4:30.
Then she must be on the terrace gathering the clothes.
Sujata! - What is it brother Bahadur?
It's time for the tea, right?
Tell the cook to boil the water; I'll be right there.
The sugar is also finished. Shall I go and buy some?
No, brother. I've sent Basant to the market.
He must be back soon.
Nothing can escape my dear child's eyes.
"The days of childhood."
"The days of childhood."
"The days of childhood were so lovely."
"The days of childhood were so lovely."
"I used to jump and fly around like a butterfly."
"The days of childhood were so lovely."
"I used to jump and fly around like a butterfly."
"Childhood.."
"We used to stay in flowers then."
"All elders and young ones would look for us."
"We used to stay in flowers then."
"All elders and young ones would look for us."
"We would get tired of plucking buds."
"The days of childhood were so lovely."
"I used to jump and fly around like a butterfly."
"Childhood.."
"If we cried, we'd start laughing next minute."
"There were small joys and small sorrows."
"If we cried, we'd start laughing next minute."
"There were small joys and small sorrows."
"What lovely days those were!"
"The days of childhood were so lovely."
"I used to jump and fly around like a butterfly."
"Childhood.."
"The days of childhood were so lovely."
"I used to jump and fly around like a butterfly."
"Childhood.."
I say, auntie's words have really put me in a dilemma.
Rama's marriage..
What if really face some problems due to Sujata?
What's there to worry about?
You find every matter worth jesting on.
What shall we answer when our relatives..
..and neighbors will ask how Sujata is related to us?
Some neighbors have already asked.
Hey listen, Sujata!
Call me Didi (elder sister). Then I'll listen.
Ok, dear. Didi! - What is it now?
This looks really good. - Is that why you called me?
No, it's something else.
What was that?
Don't you remember how you beat me yesterday?
I see; wait and watch.
Let me give Bapu the tea and then I'll teach you a lesson.
We can get her married, but who will marry..
..an uneducated, backward girl in these times?
If she is uneducated and backward..
..we are responsible for that.
Hey, it's already teatime?
Sujata, you are the clock of this house.
Bapu, Ammi has baked a very nice cake today.
Not me; you did it.
I couldn't bake it so nice if you hadn't guided me.
It's ok; I'll make it.
Charu, there are women's welfare ashrams, right?
Can't we find a good guy for her if we take their help?
No matter whatever caste he is of..
..if he's a little educated, has a job..
..or owns a small business.
One can find even God if one tries.
What if we agree to pay a big dowry?
Then there won't be any problem.
Anyone would be ready to marry a girl like Sujata.
Excuse me, is it 8 number bungalow?
This is 8 number. - I want to meet Upen. - I am Upen.
Oh you.. - I didn't recognize you.
You don't know me.
Is Charu at home?
I am her uncle. - Please, come.
Uncle, you?
Please, come. - Charu, are you fine?
Have a seat.
Wow, you already kept the tea for me.
Charu, where are your children?
Uncle, God has given me only one daughter.
Call her.
I want to see her.
Dear Rama! - I'm in a hurry.
I was passing by, how could I go without meeting you?
You had tea?
Is she your daughter?
Wow, you look like Goddess Laxmi. - Mom, what is it?
She's my daughter Rama.
She is Sujata.. She's like our daughter.
Listen! Listen to me.
You won't sleep here. Go into that room. - Why?
Dear, don't be stubborn.
Let's go. - No, I will sleep here today.
I've told you, you won't.
Come with me. - Leave my pillow.
Why only Rama will sleep near mom daily?
You don't suit Rama's status.
Why? - Rama is Ammi's daughter.
What about me? Am I not Ammi's daughter?
No, you are not Ammi's daughter.
You are a liar.
I am Ammi's daughter. You can ask her.
Ammi!
Is only Rama your daughter?
Tell me, Ammi. Am I not your daughter?
No. - Then?
You are like my daughter.
Son Adheer.
You are sitting at such height and studying..
..what if you fall?
Grandma, hold these books.
They are so heavy.
Won't it be heavy? Do you know they have knowledge in it?
Wait, I'll read it for you. - No, let it be.
I can't understand these things.
I'm here to tell you something.
About marriage?
You are so smart.
I told you, I won't marry.
You won't? - No.
Then I will give away the bank deposit..
..all the shares of the company..
..to some hospital.
I won't let you give it.
I will not marry, but will also keep your property.
I will not give you anything.
I will give it to my daughter-in-law.
Oh God.
Then I won't marry at all.
You love me so much..
..why should I get someone who will share your love?
Silly boy.
This is not done.
I'm going to Upendra's house today.
You come with me. - No.
I have lots of work. - You always work.
You should mingle with people.
They had come here twice.
We have to visit them at least once.
I will surely take you along.
Grandma, why are you stubborn to take me there?
Hope there's no girl of marriageable age.
Why do you fear, if there's one?
You've taken an oath of not marrying.
Okay, I'll come along. Please, send snacks for me through Ramu.
I am famished. - I will send him right away.
Where's Rama?
She is in the garden. She will come.
We have a benefit of staying near Gandhi Ghat.
We go out in the evening..
..and we get peace of mind here.
Yes father, even I like this place.
Sister!
Listen to me. - No.
I don't want to fight with you.
Will you sit here like a statue?
Dad, you scold her.
You don't tell her anything.
Why did you laugh?
She wasn't laughing. I did.
No dad, I saw her.
She was hiding her face and laughing.
Okay, forget it. Don't fight.
Let's go home now.
Sister, come on race with me.
Let's see who reaches first.
You can't compete with me.
No! Wait!
You? - I am Adheer.
Why are you Adheer?
My name is Adheer.
My grandma had been to Shyam Bazaar..
Oh, so you are the famous grandson..
..of our aunt residing at Shyam Bazaar.
Yes. - Please, have a seat.
You stay in the same house.. - No.
We are neighbors.
Oh, why are you standing?
Please, have a seat. Consider this as your house.
What? - Yes.
You go, I'll come.
Son, did you meet Rama?
Yes, but I couldn't understand who amongst them is Rama.
She is my daughter Rama.
She's doing her BA. She's won many awards in debating.
Mom.. - And she?
She's Sujata. My daughter.
Rama is good in studies.
She's good in household chores.
Mom.
She won many awards in games.
She has filled the cupboard.
Son, everyone praises her singing.
Her birthday is round the corner.
You please come.
Yes, he will surely come.
Why only on birthday, now you know each other.
Come whenever you are free.
Son, you are our relative now.
You talk to her.
I will go and send tea.
What is this? Why did you bring tea?
I told Madhav to get it.
What if I brought it?
Neither aunt will drink nor will let Adheer drink it.
Go and tell Mahadev to make the tea again.
Again? Why? - Don't argue with me. Go.
Upen, come. We were waiting for you.
Have a seat.
He is my Adheer. Son, greet him.
No, son. Be happy. Have a seat.
He was very small when I had seen him.
Now, he's grown taller than me.
Tell me, what are you doing these days?
I'm doing research.
In doctorate? - Yes.
What is the subject of your research?
Upen, why are you talking about studies?
It is better.. dear Rama..
You sing a song.
Aunt, why song? - What why?
Everyone praises your singing.
Let me hear it too.
Yes dear, sing it.
The song on which you received a gold medal in the college.
I have a sore throat today.
But you don't sound so.
Here comes tea sweeter than my voice.
You first have tea, then we'll do the next.
Son, did you see, how smart Rama is?
Son Adheer, visit us often.
Yes, he will surely come. Okay.
Why are you sitting here? It's going to rain; please, come in.
Look, Charu.
I didn't like hurting Sujata by sending her away.
I didn't like it either.
But you know auntie's opinion on untouchables.
If Sujata brought the tea..
..neither auntie would drink it nor would she let Adheer drink it.
Ammi!
Who am I? - Why this question all of a sudden?
I want to know who I am. - Why? What for?
They drank the tea Mahadev made.
But why didn't they drink the tea I made?
Would my touching the tea make it poisonous?
Don't irritate me. I am not free.
Ammi, you will have to tell me today. - Don't insist, Sujata.
I won't let you go without telling me. Tell me.
How dare you? Ok, ask whatever you want to ask.
Who am I? - You.. you are an untouchable! - Untouchable?!
Yes, of the lowest caste.
People wish to stay away from your shadow..
..let alone eating the food you touch.
But.. why am I of a low caste? - You were born in a low caste.
Your parents were untouchables.
Where are my untouchable parents?
They are no more.
If they were alive, you wouldn't be a burden..
A burden?
Am I only a burden?
'How should we die? By committing suicide? Never!'
'If needed, die to remain alive.'
Who is it? - The newspaper bill.
Wait, brother. I'm getting the money.
Sujata!
Don't get your Ammi wrong. She is actually..
Bapu, why are you embarrassing me?
Don't I understand her situation?
Get my shawl, Sujata. I want to go out. - Ok.
It's very hot outside; take an umbrella.
But I saw you!
Welcome.
So the bookworm has come alone today?
No, granny has also come with me..
..but she's talking to your mother.
Sit down.
Wait!
Look, if you bother me this way, miss, I will go away.
Listen! It's you who are bothering me. - How?
I find it awkward when someone calls me miss.
Really? - Yes.
Here, have a look at this magazine while I get tea for you.
'Chandramalika'. Written by Rama Devi.
Don't read all that. It's very foolish.
Let me read first and then I'll take your opinion.
My heart! O my dear heart!
You are like a flower of the spring.
How will you stay away from the wasps?
All these colors.. - Don't read it. I feel shy.
What's there to feel shy about? It's quite good.
Rama, who was that lady with you the other day?
My elder sister. - Elder sister? But your mother..
Never mind mother. She keeps saying nonsense.
Don't you write poems, Mr. Adheer?
I don't write poems, I read them.
Rama! I don't see your sister around. Has she gone out?
No, she's at home, but it's not easy to see her.
She doesn't sit idle even for a minute.
She works like a clock all day. - Like a clock?
You didn't get it, right? Listen.
At 8 in the morning, she looks over the kitchen work.
When she sits at 10..
..she makes a list of things to be bought from the market.
At 10:30 she's in a hurry..
..to give Mahadev the money and send him to the market.
At 3 in the afternoon..
..she sorts out the things brought from the market.
One can get to see her at 4:30.. on the terrace.
Folding the clothes kept for drying.
At 5, she's again busy making the tea.
And at this hour? - At this hour? What time is it?
It's 6 o'clock. Come, I'll take you to meet her. - Where?
Just come along.
That day I had to request and coax Adheer to come here.
But today he said as soon as he returned from the college..
..granny, shall we go to Mr. Upen's place?
Look how happy they look together.
This is a good sign.
Let go of me, naughty girl! Let go.
Shall I? - Yes, let go.
1, 2, 3.
Mr. Adheer, all roses you see here..
..are the result of sister's hard work.
There's some magic in her hands.
I can only write about gardens in my poems.
But she actually grows gardens.
Sujata! Don't you write poems?
No, sister is.. - Rama, I am not asking you.
Sujata, what subjects do you study in B.A.?
Who are you talking to about education?
She's illiterate. How would she know what B.A. is?
So what if sister doesn't go to a college?
She knows how to read and write.
Being able to read A B C does not mean one is educated.
Even my maid can read that much.
Granny, you said we'll have to return home soon..
..as you have some important task to finish.
Come; we're quite late. - Right.
Go and sit in the car; I'll go and meet Charu.
Mr. Adheer! What happened? - Nirmal?
Who were you thinking about? - About myself.
I still can't find you.
Where do I send you the letter?
No, dear, I am thinking over my own problems.
Ok, I believe you. That means you are facing..
..some problem at last after all these days.
Good. Very good.
Mr. Adheer?! I never guessed you'd come today.
Why? Have I made a mistake? - Yes, you have.
If you make such a mistake every day, it'd be excellent.
Have you vowed to stand here? Please, come in.
Come.
We have started a badminton club in our college, Mr. Adheer.
Now we're divided in two groups.
One says that the club should only be for women..
..and that men should not be members.
But I don't agree to that.
We should pity the poor men. So, what do you say?
Why are you looking around?
Rama, it's 6 o'clock. Your sister must be in the garden.
Who, Sujata? - Yes. - Yes, she must be in the garden.
Go and meet her. I shall leave.
Where are you going? - I told you we have a match. Bye.
Perhaps Rama is studying in her room.
No, I met her just now. She's gone out to play.
Sujata!
You look very pretty in this garden.
Do you know what your biggest virtue is? - Virtue? - Yes.
Your biggest virtue is that you have no virtue.
How is auntie? - Is that the only answer to what I said?
Then tell me what I should say.
You can tell me what virtues I have.
You are full of virtues.
I don't have the strength to praise all of them.
Ok, tell me what flaws I have. - Flaws?
Yes, my biggest flaw. - I don't know. I don't understand.
Really? Can't you understand?
My biggest flaw is that I come over here only to see you.
Ammi is inside. Won't you meet her?
Let's go to meet her.
Ammi! Mr. Adheer is here. - Adheer? Welcome, child.
Rama! - She's gone out to play.
Perhaps she didn't know you have come.
No, she left after meeting me.
Left you and went away to play?
Was playing that important?
Please, don't mind, child.
What are you doing here? Go inside.
Sit down; I'll get tea for you. - Please, don't bother.
I just dropped in to meet you as I was passing by.
No, child. You've just come. - I will come again some other day.
Do come, child.
Rama! - What is it?
What took you so long today?
There was a drama rehearsal at our college.. - That's ok.
I say, when will you grow up? - Why? What happened?
Adheer came here this evening, and you left him alone?
It was time for my match. - Is playing everything to you?
Learn some manners. Adheer must have felt bad as you left.
Look, mother, I know well what Mr. Adheer likes and dislikes.
Your exams are approaching..
..and you're sleeping peacefully with a book.
I'll do what I wish. Why do you care?
Why? Am I not your elder sister?
If you sleep again while studying..
..I'll pour cold water on you.
I'll beat you before that.
Is Mr. Upen at home?
Yes, he is. Please, be seated; I'll call him.
Greetings, Mr. Upen. How are you?
Greetings. Excuse me, but I don't recognize you.
You had given an ad in the paper about a girl's marriage..
Yes, yes. Sit down, please.
Look, Mr. Upen, I haven't come here..
..only because my son is unmarried.
My desire to tie a bond..
..with decent people like you has brought me here.
It is my good luck that you have come here.
Ok, so what is your expectation? I mean..
Nothing, nothing! I am very liberal in this matter.
I don't expect anything as a dowry.
Mr. Upen, to ask for a dowry is very despicable.
But if you wish to give some thing, I'll accept it gladly.
Your ideas are very respectable.
Such wishes and ideas are spoiling our society, mister.
I don't consider money most important.
The real treasure is the decency of a person..
..his culture and his capabilities.
Money is no big deal. What's important is the person.
If the person is not good, what do I do with the money?
Lick it?
O Ram! When will our society improve?
Only people with improved thoughts..
..can improve the society.
So, what does your son do?
My son has passed B.A., Mr. Upen. - I see.
He is also good looking and nice talker.
But he's of an independent nature. Doesn't want to do a job.
He wants to start a business of his own.
And you know one needs capital for business.
There's much competition.. - Don't worry about that.
I will help him fully with his business.
That's what I hoped from you, brother.
Now if your daughter becomes my..
Pardon me, but the girl is not my daughter.
She's like my daughter. - That doesn't make a difference.
She must be the daughter of some of your relative. - No.
Then? - I think I should say everything clearly..
..to a man of great thoughts like you.
Actually, the girl is untouchable.
I didn't expect this from you. - But a modern man like you..
Forget it! I would give a second thought..
..even if the girl was deaf or blind.
Beware! Don't give ads in papers and fool people again.
Got it? Goodbye.
Did you hear what that man said?
Welcome. Welcome, auntie. Please come, Adheer.
Where is Rama, Charu? - Come, auntie.
Oh God. - Here's Rama.
Rama, pay respects to auntie.
God bless you. May you live long!
Here, wear this.
Adheer said that this will suit you very much.
Very beautiful. Here. Doesn't she look pretty?
Here, sis. Keep it.
It really looks good on you, Rama.
Shut up.
Welcome, Mrs. Gupta.
Wow! Your daughter looks really pretty, like a moon.
No, Mrs. Gupta, you're mistaken.
Our daughter, Rama, is over there. - Then she?
She is Sujata. But she's like our daughter.
Bring the sweets.
Here. - Thank you, sir.
Listen, Charu. Till Sujata is in this house..
..we cannot get Adheer and Rama married.
You know how hard we are trying to get her married, aunt.
You give the same excuse.
To find a guy of a decent family for Sujata.
Forget it. Everything is ok for a low caste girl.
It's beyond your capability.
I will talk to my driver to find a guy for her.
Let go. What is it, auntie?
Your college friends are insisting to hear a song from you.
It's my birthday today. Why would I sing?
Mina will sing. - Ok, I will sing; but you play the piano.
Agreed.
"May you live a thousand years!"
"And may the days in a year be 50,000!"
"May you live a thousand years!"
"And may the days in a year be 50,000!"
"May you live a thousand years!"
"And may the days in a year be 50,000!"
"I wish the sun rises and sings every day..
..with its rays for you."
"May you play with colors every day!"
"I wish the sun rises and sings every day..
..with its rays for you."
"May you play with colors every day!"
"Till there's colour in the nature."
"May you live a thousand years!"
"And may the days in a year be 50,000!"
"May you live a thousand years!"
"And may the days in a year be 50,000!"
"The flame will dance at your words everywhere."
"Your eyes will shine with love."
"The flame will dance at your words everywhere."
"Your eyes will shine with love."
"There's brightness around due to you."
"May you live a thousand years!"
"And may the days in a year be 50,000!"
"May you live a thousand years!"
"And may the days in a year be 50,000!"
"May you live a thousand years!"
"And may the days in a year be 50,000!"
Look what I've got for you, Rama!
Why have you taken Rama in your lap today and feeding her?
Why is she dressed so nicely today?
It's my birthday today, that's why.
Ayah! - Yes? - Clean her mouth.
Make my birthday, too, Ammi.
Make my birthday, too, Ammi.
I also want to get dressed like Rama. Ammi!
Make my birthday, too, Ammi.
I will also sit on your lap and eat Kheer. Ammi! Ammi!
Ayah, take her away. She's bothering too much. - No..
I won't go. Let go of me!
Come on. - Let go of me!
Naughty girl! I will lock you in the room.
Ammi! Make my birthday, too, Ammi.
Make my birthday, too, Ammi. Make my birthday, too, Ammi.
Ammi!
Make my birthday, too, Ammi.
Ammi! - Sujata!
Why did you leave the party? - And why did you leave it?
I don't understand. - But I've understood everything.
There's no one in this world who can understand everything.
But I can.
It was a trifle matter. Why feel so sad about it, Sujata?
Which matter? - That your Ammi didn't call you daughter.
Why are you crying, Sujata?
You are Mr. Upen's daughter.
Who can deny that fact?
Do you believe that? - Without a doubt.
Say it again.
I can say it a thousand times.
The fact is that you are Mr. Upen's daughter.
Sujata, when is your birthday?
It got lost somewhere in the dark.
I didn't get you.
If you could understand this much, why don't you get this?
No one knows about my birth date.
I say they know. - Who? - The sparkling stars of the sky.
The stars were shining on that day, too.
Sujata, what if I tell you that..
..I want to give you a gift for that birthday?
Will you accept it?
Tell me, Sujata.
I have got it. - Got it?
How?
At least you considered..
..that girl a human being whose birth date is not known.
At least you understood her grief.
I don't wish to have any gift other than that.
Sujata!
But I am very scared.
Perhaps I won't be able to bear so much happiness.
"I wish I find someone at this point."
"My heart thunders when the dark clouds gather."
"My heart thunders when the dark clouds gather."
"I wish I find someone at this point."
"My heart thunders when the dark clouds gather."
"I wish I find someone at this point."
"Tell me, why should anyone mind?"
"My heart thunders when the dark clouds gather."
"Knowing how alone I am"
"Knowing how dull my life is."
"Knowing how alone I am"
"Knowing how dull my life is."
"If someone holds my hands, makes me laugh.."
"..helps me forget my grief, why should anyone mind?"
"My heart thunders when the dark clouds gather."
"I wander in the garden, lost in thoughts."
"I am neither asleep nor awake."
"I wander in the garden, lost in thoughts."
"I am neither asleep nor awake."
"If someone comes and adorns my hair with flowers.."
"..why should anyone mind?"
"My heart thunders when the dark clouds gather."
"I watch his way."
"I wait for his arrival."
"I watch his way."
"I wait for his arrival."
If he comes, I'll be very "happy..
..Why should anyone mind?"
"My heart thunders when the dark clouds gather."
"I wish I find someone at this point."
"My heart thunders when the dark clouds gather."
"I wish I find someone at this point."
"Tell me, why should anyone mind?"
"My heart thunders when the dark clouds gather."
Sujata!
Madam, they are here. - Who?
You had asked the driver to look for a guy for Sujata..
..so they are here.
Ok, come.
Hasn't the guy come with you? - I am the guy.
What do you do for a living? - Tell her.
He has a shop in his village.
Were you married before? - Yes.
I.. I've been widowed.. for two years. I have.. two kids.
They are very naughty.. that's why.. tell her!
Okay. I will inform you when everything is arranged.
He has earned a lot, but he's a bit old.. - That's ok.
Money is most important.
Who, auntie? Had Rama come there?
Yes, Rama was here a while back..
..and Adheer has also promised to be there.
But remember this, Charu. Don't bring Sujata to the play.
I mean if she is there..
Yes, auntie, everything will be ok. - Yes.
Let me tell you other good news, Charu.
I've found a guy for Sujata.
I will tell you everything when we meet in the evening.
Listen, Sujata. There's a play at Rama's college today..
Yes, Ammi, I remember that. I will wear that pink Khadi sari.
Look, Sujata, auntie is also coming there..
Ok, Ammi, I won't go.
You took quite long to come.
Hey, where's sister? - She had some work at home.
It's work for her all day!
She didn't come even when I requested so much.
The last bell has gone. Please, be seated.
There will be a Manipuri dance and then my drama.
I'll get my make up done till then. - Come.
Granny, I won't be able to stay till the end.
I have some work with a professor.
You are busy every day. Come now. Come on.
How did you know I was here? - My heart told me.
Didn't you go to Rama's college..
..to watch the play 'Chandalika' (low caste)?
I had gone. - So?
I made an excuse and left. - Really?
Do you speak lies, too? - I do.
But on the condition that..
..it doesn't hurt anyone or gain any benefits for me.
I've watched the play 'Chandalika' many times.
Have you? How is it? - Don't you know its story? - No.
Then why didn't you come there today?
Just like that.
It's a very good story. - Please, tell me.
Bhishmanand was one of the chief disciples of Lord Buddha.
Once while walking under hot sunlight he felt thirsty.
He reached a well and saw that..
..a girl was fetching water from it.
Child! Please, give me some water.
No, sage. Please, pardon me. - Why?
I am born in a very low caste. I am an untouchable.
You are mistaken, child. You are just like us.
The water which cools someone and..
..satisfies his thirst should purify anyone.
But, sage, I am a Chandal girl. - It's false.
O pretty girl, the dark clouds..
..of monsoon are called Chandal Megh.
But that doesn't make its water impure.
It was Chandal who poured water for mother Janaki..
..to bathe during her stay in the jungle.
If I give you the water, it will be a sin for you.
How can I commit this grave sin?
No, child. I will gain a big virtue by doing so.
Don't malign yourself unnecessarily.
Lord Buddha says that insulting one's self..
..is a bigger sin than committing suicide.
I am very thirsty, child. Please, give me water.
Bhishmanand's thirst was quenched by that Chandal girl.
He blessed her.
Since then she considered herself a human being..
..not a low person, not an untouchable.
But that was in old times.
Does it happen in our times?
Why, Sujata? A great person is born in our times, too..
..who dedicated his whole life eradicating..
..the notions of sins regarding the untouchables.
Gandhiji.
Haven't you heard the story..
..of that untouchable girl, Laxmi?
Gandhiji considered Laxmi his daughter..
..and allowed her to stay at his Ashram in Ahmedabad.
A big problem had risen then.
People stopped giving charity to the ashram due to that girl.
But Gandhiji did not change his mind.
How could a person consider another person untouchable..
..and that, too, under the name of religion?
He couldn't bear this grave insult of a religion.
He faced the hatred of people who gave charity..
..but he didn't throw that girl out of the ashram.
The ashram was at the verge of shutting down.
And just then, like God's blessings..
..the ashram got a charity of 13,000 rupees.
Gandhiji's devotion succeeded.
What's this? Why are you crying?
I am not crying.
Can anyone cry hearing this nice story?
I find everything in this place very beautiful today.
Don't you feel the same?
Sujata!
Why do I like you so much?
Tell me, Sujata. - We're getting late. Let's go home.
Why are you running away instead of answering me?
If I knew that you also liked me..
"O brother!"
"Listen, my friend."
"Listen, my companion."
Why are you silent? Won't you answer me?
You know, I saw a dream, Sujata.
What dream?
There's a flower of Chandramalika in your hair.
A red sandalwood mark on your forehead.
You are wearing a bright sari..
..and standing beside me like a statue of beauty.
Tell me, what can this dream mean?
It means that you have beautiful thoughts.
Don't ignore the matter, Sujata.
Tell me, when will you come to my life like that dream?
Whenever you wish.
In that moment I'd belong to you..
In that moment I'd belong to you..
"She's around your neck like a garland."
"Listen, my companion."
"Listen, brother!"
"Listen, my friend."
"Listen, my companion."
Sing a bit louder.
I have only the tune right now. I can't find good words.
Say clearly that you don't want to sing. Why this excuse?
I promise you, Sujata, that I'll sing for you as soon as I find words.
Sujata! - Brother Mahadev? Come in.
Sir and madam are back. - And Rama?
Miss Rama hasn't returned yet.
Auntie has found a guy for Sujata.
It won't be wise to delay this matter now.
But he's a bit too old for her. - We shouldn't be choosy now.
Where will we find a younger guy for her?
I didn't like it when Adheer suddenly left the drama.
Don't know what happened.
Perhaps he had some important task to do.
No. The boys of these days are very different.
It's difficult to understand their thoughts.
And if auntie says that Adheer is ready to marry Rama..
..there's no need to wait for Rama to complete her exams.
If Rama couldn't marry a gem like Adheer, I will feel very bad.
Hello. - Hello, Sujata. I was lost in the tune then.
Now I've found the words, too. Listen.
"The thing that your eyes shine for..."
"..I've found out that song for you."
"The thing that your eyes shine for."
"The thing that your eyes shine for.."
"..I've found out that song for you."
"The thing that your eyes shine for."
"The thing that remained.."
"..in my heart as grief and couldn't pour out."
"It stayed in your eyes as magic and couldn't move."
"The thing that remained.."
"..in my heart as grief and couldn't pour out."
"It stayed in your eyes as magic and couldn't move."
"I've brought that song for you today."
"The thing that your eyes shine for."
"Store it in your heart; don't let go of it."
"My song is more delicate than glass.."
"..see that it doesn't break."
"Store it in your heart; don't let go of it."
"My song is more delicate than glass.."
"..see that it doesn't break."
"I will hum that song for you."
"The thing that your eyes shine for."
"Till it touches your lovely lips."
"It will roam around aimlessly in your hair."
"Till it touches your lovely lips."
"It will roam around aimlessly in your hair."
"I will keep singing that song for you."
"The thing that your eyes shine for.."
"..I've found out that song for you."
"The thing that your eyes shine for."
Are you laughing? Looks like you didn't like my song.
No, no, I am not laughing.
Whatever I talked to you at the river bank today was all false.
Totally false. Please, forget all that.
What are you saying, Sujata? - Yes.
If you want to see me happy, don't say anything to auntie.
Neither to her nor to my Ammi or Bapu.
I request you. Please, don't ask me anything about it.
Sujata! Sujata!
Listen, Sujata..
The peacock is dancing; his eyes wide open.
Look how the sky is lost in thoughts.
My dream is fulfilled today.
We are together.
This music of the rain.. hi, sis.
Will you eat tamarind? - No. - Eat some; it's really good.
Rama! Why does Mr. Adheer praise you so much?
Who? Mr. Adheer? Praises me?
Well, I am worth all the praise. There's no room for 'why'?
But.. why Mr. Adheer especially?
The cook who cooks Roti also praises me.
No, Rama, it's not a matter of joke.
Please, think. - What are you trying to say?
Good people like Mr. Adheer are very few in the world.
There's no doubt about it.
I fear he might feel hurt.
If he is destined to be sad, what can I do?
Enough, sister! I can't chat more. I am going.
I've brought the tea, Bapu. - Where is your Ammi?
She's coming.
What's this? Why do you look so sad?
I hope you're feeling alright. - It's nothing, Bapu. I am ok.
Auntie had called just now.
She has fixed Sujata's marriage. - Has she really?
And we haven't even seen the guy yet.
Please, don't create problems now.
If Sujata is not married soon..
..we will have to hold back Rama and Adheer's marriage.
These girls of nowadays!
Don't know when they might change their minds.
If we lose such a good guy, my grief will be endless.
I have come to decide with you. If you..
Don't make the same mistake again. I cannot marry you.
Why not?
Because it will be a loss to you.
I am smart enough to gauge my own benefit and loss.
Then why are you bent to act foolish?
You can get much better girls than me.
No, I can't get even one.
You are from a decent family. You belong to a very high caste.
You know that, don't you? - I do.
And you also know that there are many people..
..of a caste much lower than yours. - Yes.
The thoughts of low caste people are also low.
What's wrong with you, Sujata?
Why are you talking useless things today?
There is a reason for that. - What?
I don't belong to your caste.
Are you trying to say that you are not related to Mr. Upen?
I don't even belong to his community..
..let alone having a blood relation.
I belong to a very low caste. I am an untouchable.
So? Why are you silent?
Will you come to me again?
Will you ever wish to marry me now?
Do you want to scare me, Sujata? Impossible!
I don't follow the caste discriminations.
Whoever you are, you are my dream girl.
You have taught me what love is. You are my..
Enough, Mr. Adheer! For God's sake, don't say more.
I won't be able to bear it.
You still can't marry me. - Why?
What other temptation makes you reject my love?
Is there some secret? - Yes, there is.
What? - Please, don't ask that.
I beg of you. Don't say anything to me; I don't want to hear.
Forget an untouchable girl like me.
Consider your dream girl dead.
Your flower of Chandramalika has dried.
Why are you sitting in the dark, child? - Just like that.
You said you don't feel like going out anywhere.
So where had you been just now? - At Rama's place.
I see. Then you must have got that news. - What news?
That untouchable girl at their place.. Sujata..
..her marriage is fixed.
The guy is also of a low caste like her, but is very rich.
Sujata is very happy with this new bond.
Ok, child, rest for a while. I'll offer prayers to the Lord.
Hello. - Hello, Rama. It's Adheer here.
Please, get Sujata on line. - Right away.
Hello. - Who, Sujata? Congratulations.
I've heard that you're getting married to a very rich guy.
At last you rejected my love for money.
You know who gives up everything for money?
Today I am forced to believe that..
..people of low caste are also of low thoughts.
You are a living example of that.
What are you talking, Mr. Adheer?
Who gave you the news of my wedding?
The one who I can trust.
Then do attend my wedding. - Why?
This untouchable girl will take the dust under your feet..
..on her hair and will leave this world for good.
Sujata! Listen, Sujata!
Sujata! Listen, Sujata!
Sujata!
Granny! - Yes, child?
Do you really want me to get married soon?
What a silly question, child! That's what I am alive for.
When a beautiful daughter-in-law will come home?
Then start making the arrangements.
May you live long, child!
I will send a message to Upen right away.
But Rama's exams are..
I want to marry Sujata, not Rama.
What?! What did you say?
I want to marry Sujata.
Do you know that she is not Upen's daughter? - Yes.
And do you also know that she is an untouchable? - Yes, I do.
Good heavens!
You are talking of marrying that untouchable girl before my Lord?
Get out of my sight! Go away!
Was Sujata created by some one else and not your Lord?
The likes of Buddha, Vivekanand, Ramkrishna..
..whose pictures you have here, have never said that..
..there are castes and discriminations among human beings.
Don't talk nonsense! They are all great sages.
They are great because..
..they considered human beings as human beings.
To hate another human being is the gravest sin, granny.
Keep your advice to yourself!
Trying to teach me what religion is!
Listen carefully! You cannot marry that girl.
She's the daughter of an untouchable.
I don't believe that. Now she is Mr. Upen's daughter.
Your saying that doesn't make her that.
She was born to untouchable parents.
Is only genealogy the most important?
Ok, if a Brahmin child was brought up by a Shudra..
..would you still consider him a Brahmin?
No, his caste is washed away. He becomes a Shudra now.
Then I'd say that..
..Sujata has also become a daughter of a Brahmin now.
Because she was brought up by a decent man like Mr. Upen.
Any person is high or low with his upbringing and not birth.
Shut up! You cannot beat me with your arguments.
This is my final decision. You cannot marry that girl.
Then this is my final decision that..
..I won't marry anyone except Sujata.
We won't share any relationship from today on.
Get out of my house!
You don't have any right over my wealth and property.
God! What ordeal you're putting me through at this old age?
Madam! Young sir is leaving.
Madam!
Young sir is really leaving.
Please hurry, madam!
Adheer! Where are you going, Adheer?
Stop! Will you really go away? - Yes.
Will you ruin the prestige of your family..
..due to your attraction to an untouchable girl?
I don't believe in caste discriminations.
Is your belief everything to you now?
Doesn't duty mean anything?
You're leaving your home for a trifle matter.
Adheer, your mother died when you were a young kid.
And since that day I have brought you up.
I lived only with your support. I even forgot death.
But you..
Didn't you think about me even once?
Didn't you think that I have no one except you in this world?
If you go away, I won't be able to live a moment.
I accept defeat. Please don't go, child.
I give up.
Mr. Adheer!
This letter, sir. - Who is it from? - From Sujata.
You can go.
'Mr. Adheer, I am writing this letter..'
'..as I couldn't tell you everything over the phone.'
'It is my good fortune that you loved an untouchable girl like me.'
'But I would have had to hurt Ammi and Bapu to please you.'
'And which I wouldn't do for any temptation in the world.'
'They wish to get Rama married to you.'
'If you want to see me happy, please, marry Rama.'
'I will remain with Ammi and Bapu all my life and serve them.'
'Really.'
Charu! Upen! - Auntie? At this hour?
I hope you are feeling alright? - Yes, I am fine.
What's the matter? You look tired. - Yes, I am.
I feel very tired, Charu.
I've come to tell you that Adheer wants to get married very soon.
Really? This is good news, auntie.
But Rama's exams are close at hand.
Not Rama. Adheer wants to marry Sujata. - Sujata?!
Doesn't Adheer know that Sujata is an untouchable? - He does.
He knows everything.
But why did you agree to bear this injustice?
I was defeated, child.
Adheer's arguments left me dumb.
He's brought up in this new era. He's educated.
Perhaps he is right.
Times are changing, Charu. We can't stop it.
But I can't change my age old notions either.
I think I should go to Kashi for a few days and brace myself.
Here, Upen. - What is it, auntie?
These are bank shares worth 50,000 rupees.
I had thought that I'd give them to Adheer's wife myself.
Anyways, I'm leaving them with you for Sujata.
Now when I am defeated, it is better to lose completely.
After all why did Adheer.. - It's not Adheer's fault.
It is the fault of that wicked girl.
She is still here to repay our love and care this way.
Why are you getting angry, Charu? Someone might hear.
She's like our daughter after all.
Not like our daughter, she's like a poisonous snake!
Charu!
I won't be able to see her dressed as a bride.
I can't attend the wedding of a witch..
..who has pounced on my daughter's rights.
Keep quiet, Charu! - Why should I keep quiet?
We were rearing a snake all these years.
We nurtured her and she bit us. - Charu!
What happened, Ammi? - Mind you! I am not your Ammi.
Go away from here! Go away! I won't see your face again.
Charu! - Ammi!
Charu! - Ammi!
Mother.
Charu! - What happened to mother? - Madam!
C'mon, let's take her to her room.
Look, Mr. Upen, she has bled a lot..
..and so her pulse is also beating low.
I think she has had some shock. We need to be careful.
Anger or excitement can prove dangerous for her.
And.. ok, come this way.
Nurse! Check the patient's pulse regularly. - Yes, sir.
Look, Mr. Upen, I want to tell you clearly that..
..the patient's condition is quite serious.
We will have to get fresh blood for her soon.
I am ready. Take my blood. - No.
First we will have to check the type of her blood.
Then whoever's blood..
..matches her group will donate his blood.
Send for pathologist, Dr. Sahani, immediately.
Doctor! The patient is unable to breathe. - I am coming.
Look, mister, don't waste a minute.
I will do that. Please, stay with her.
No, his blood does not match either.
Doctor! The patient's pulse is dying.
Arrange an injection of Choramin immediately.
What shall we do now, doctor? - I don't understand.
We should find the blood soon.
Isn't there anyone else here? - Please, check my blood.
Sujata, you.. - Yes, Bapu.
Please, come and sit here. Sahani, test her blood..
..while I give the injection to the patient.
So, doctor?
Her blood group matches that of the patient exactly.
Same type. - Thank God!
Come with me; we shouldn't waste time now.
Come, Dr. Sahani.
She is out of danger. Now let her rest.
Call me once in the afternoon and tell me how she's doing.
Nurse!
You were awake all night. Go and rest. - Ok.
Hello. Hello, doctor. Rama speaking.
You had asked us to give you mother's news.
Mother is fine. She's asleep at the moment.
Yes, I will tell father. Goodbye, doctor.
This question has been rising in my mind all last night, Adheer.
Yes? - How come Sujata's blood matched Charu..
Do you think that even the blood..
..of high and low caste people is different?
What are you talking?
She is fine now. I'll go home for a while.
What was Adheer saying?
Sujata has defeated, Charu. - Whom? - All of us.
There was a need to give you fresh blood.
Neither mine, nor Adheer's, nor even Rama's blood matched yours.
But Sujata's blood.. - What do you mean?
Sujata saved me by donating her blood?
Don't stand up.. lie down.
But.. how did Sujata's blood match mine?
Don't ask me that, Charu. Only God can answer to that.
The one who created me, you and also Sujata.
Perhaps he considers everyone equal.
We are badly defeated, Charu.
After Sujata donated her blood and saved your life..
..there's nothing she owes to us now.
She has repaid for all our favors.
That's true. Now we don't have any right to get upset with her.
Where is she? - In that room. The doctor has asked her to rest.
Shall I call her?
No, not now.
Sujata!
What you wrote in your letter turn true?
Can't your decision change? - No.
You sent auntie here unnecessarily.
I can't marry you. - Why?
It's because of me that Ammi faced this trouble.
Didn't you hear that? Even my breath is poisonous.
Save yourself from this poison. Please, go away.
Will you bid me goodbye with those words?
Won't you say anything else? - I want to.
Say it, Sujata. - Promise me something before you leave.
That you will forget me. That you will hate me all your life.
I am going, but I regret that I will not be able to hate you.
There is no room for hatred in my love.
Sujata, you've made a mistake by loving me.
Yes, I was foolish. I made a mistake.
This mistake of yours will help me live now.
There's no other way out. There's no other support.
Please, agree to what I say. Marry Rama.
You will lead a happy life.
Don't insult me by saying such things, Sujata.
I cannot deceive Rama.
It's better to get deceived and tolerate it.
I will never meet you again.
Here's your letter. What will I do with it now?
Forgive me. Please, say that you've forgiven me before you go.
I cannot take away Ammi and Bapu's happiness.
I cannot hurt them.
Charu, Sujata has beaten us once again.
She has broken our pride from its root.
Here, read this letter.
'But I would have had to hurt Ammi and Bapu to please you.'
'And which I wouldn't do for any temptation in the world.'
We are defeated, Charu.
But I feel joyous to accept this defeat today.
Tell me truly, Charu, is this the voice..
..of the same Sujata we considered like our daughter?
She's better than..
Today I understand how much Sujata loves us.
She has made us realize our mistake.
Call her. Please, call her. - Bapu!
Bapu!
I've brought tea for you.
Why are you calling standing outside? Come inside.
No. I will never face Ammi with my poisonous shadow.
Call.. call her. - Come, Sujata.
Why are you standing? Put it down and sit here.
Not there, here. Sit beside me, Sujata.
Did you hear this? Adheer wants to marry you.
No, Ammi, no. - Why?
I will never marry. I will live with you forever.
All girls get married, Sujata. - No, get Rama married.
Rama will get married. But you should marry, too.
You are like our.. - Ammi! Don't say it!
Don't say that, Ammi. - Listen..
Like our daughter! I can't bear that, Ammi. I can't.
You are not like our daughter.
You are our daughter. Yes, you are.
What did you say? Say it again. Once again.
Yes, you are our daughter.
Mother! Mother! - Child!
Say it again, mother! I was eager to hear that.
Mother! Mother!
Hey, what's this? What's the matter?
Why are you all crying?
We are not crying. It's Sujata who is crying.
Why are you crying, sister?
She is crying to hear about her marriage.
Her marriage? To whom? - To Adheer.
What? To Mr. Adheer? You didn't get it, mother.
She's not crying; she's laughing.
Look up, sister. Sister!
Look here.
Look, mother, sister is laughing.
Look, sister. Look up.
You know, child..
..we kept trying..
..to get you out of the house, but we failed.
At last we are really getting you out.
Ammi!
C'mon, child. You are getting late.

[REAL GOT7 Season 4] EP02. Eat, Play, Talk (2017 Ver.) - Duration: 20:27.
Let's be honest, Real GOT7
[A feast of food waiting for mukbang (eating show) members]
Good to see you, this is GOT7.
[Real GOT7 became compete with Jackson's return]
Pizza!
Today's topic is 'mukbang (eating show)'.
Who chose 'mukbang' last time?
[Bambam got a sty]
We did as a team.
We gathered the opinions.
Last time, we had a shooting without Jackson,
[Jinyoung kindly explains the last story of episode 1 for Jackson]
[4 new topics + 4 old topics = total 8]
We chose mukbang from previous items.
We are here to eat in celebration of Jackson's return.
What were the topics we chose? There were mukbang,
Mafia (game),
Mafia game, and I think there was something like 'Romance'.
The photos.
Horror! We picked 'Horror'.
What else other than 'Horror'?
[Yugyeom's main dish comes]
Room escape game! Room escape game x 2
[That wasn't in the list…]
I hope we really could enjoy room escape game [cool].
We'll enjoy the food.
You can find fun room escape game in Gangnam.
Yes, there are many.
If anyone doesn't eat chicken feet, would you change the seat with me?
[Suddenly three focus on chicken feet]
Ask him to make an extra dish.
Could you order one more chicken feet?
It'd be awesome if we finish all of them here.
Frankly, we can eat them up.
Isn't it hard to finish the pizza?
He has a bizarre taste.
[Jackson dips sushi in garlic sauce]
Strange~ Try it out x 2
Why you ignore it?
What's the matter? I'm not ignoring it.
Here's chicken feet.
[GOT7 starts their mukbang (eating show)]
Our marketing staffs also use 'JYP cups'.
What was the menu of our last mukbang 3 years ago?
We only had pizza.
There was ttukbokki (stir-fried rice cake).
There were pizza and chicken.
[Pizza & chicken were only on Real GOT7 mukbang 3 years ago]
For sashimi, halibut is the best.
What about soy sauce marinated crab?
Was that Youngjae? Who said he had to loosen the belt when eating.
Youngjae undid his belt and ate.
I got so happy after I woke up from sleep.
[Youngjae is happy with chicken feet]
I was so hungry at the salon.
[GOT7 resolve their hungers]
Usually we order food at the salon.
And Mark asked for food, so I said
"Mark, there will be mukbang, so don't", and he kept patient.
Actually, if you eat a little bit, you can eat more later.
Our members usually don't talk when eating.
[Quiet audio due to eating]
Silence
What do we need to talk? We are busy to eat them up.
[Refuse talking]
Dear fans, I still eat halal food.
I'm not sure until when I'll continue to eat but it's so delicious.
Pizza is always great with garlic sauce.
You're right.
[Pasta comes after Pizza]
[A refreshing idol finish]
[JJP are on standby with chicken drumsticks]
[Even their eating is like one soul]
It seems JB hadn't had food for days.
JB and Jinyoung really eat deliciously.
[We have never starved JB;;]
This is really good.
Actually, Korean food looks delicious to eat as if you are starved.
No need to be elegant.
I no more can make a happy face by eating from now on.
It's important to eat really delicious.
[They have to describe a taste only by eating]
[Baby BamBam eats well]
I'm so happy.
Everyone, we have enjoyed food.
You know we can't just eat [leader is aware]
Any ideas next?
Let's make a song.
He's right. We planned to make a song.
[With mukbang, they make Real GOT logo song]
Yeah, like 'M' burger theme song.
Because this is 'REAL GOT7',
In GOT7ing, we did 'GOT~ ing~?'.
REAL GOT7~ RRRRREAL, like this.
RRRRRRREAL! Like this?
Sorry.
That's old fashioned..
What's that mean? I couldn't get it.
Because there is 'rieul(-r)',
Should I make a tongue like this?
I'm curious. What's the taste like? Is it okay?
Is it tasty?
Jackson says it's delicious if you dip sushi in garlic sauce.
Really?
[Jackson is enjoying his special recipe]
He's dipping sushi in garlic sauce.
[Jackson, do as you like~]
Are you okay? You eat well.
How does it taste?
How do we make a song?
[Making REAL GOT 4 logo song starts]
This is difficult than we thought.
REAL GOT7~
Should we ask someone who is good at making a melody?
That would be JB.
[Defsoul is already thinking of it]
Because it's a logo song,
It must be short and with impact!
Bbam-bbam-bba-ra-bbam! REAL GOT7!
That's a plagiarism.
Then let's decide a genre.
What about hip-hop? R&B? Ballads?
Trot!
EDM!
[Singing in EDM]
[EDM customized player 'Real GOT7']
[Their GOT-pride can make up all genres]
Let's go with EDM.
Sounds good.
This must be exciting.
It sounds fine.
We don't need ballads.
If a song is trot,
[Mr. Gyeom sings in trot]
REAL is here ~ GOT7 is here ~
Do you have to make that face?
Is that an egg seller?
Designer of REAL GOT7
REAL GOT77777~
I suddenly think of that after eating.
When we had a meal with J. Y. Park PD,
Remember? 'Don't place your arms on the table.'
[GOT7 learned table manners from J. Y. Park PD]
Don't stick your tongue out first when eating.
[Pretending he's enjoying wine with a dish]
Did he say not to stick one's tongue out first?
That means, when you're eating,
[Pretending to drink a whole bottle]
If you eat like this,
PD taught to eat like this,
And said not to stick out tongue like this.
What was the reason?
He said that's a table manner.
Not to stick out a tongue?
Why don't we roll it up?
When I see a wine bottle, I remember that.
[The memory of the wine bottle]
Ah~ Hidden camera.
Yugyeom, did you cry?
Almost.
I didn't cry.
You didn't? Sorry.
I will never care if a wine bottle is broken here.
At that time, PD said not to place arms on table,
And not to make a eating sound.
BamBam, please grab one chicken feet. Don't take all.
Is this chicken feet?
We have to make a melody first.
[BamBam begins a composing (?) for melody]
BamBam first.
It must be addictive.
BamBam first.
Are you saying that I have to make a melody?
Ah, just, go, 'Re~al GOT7'
No.
It's similar to 'when a blue moon is flying in the sky~'.
It's somewhat similar to 'you are my paradise'.
[Original composer raises a plagiarism]
Isn't it?
[Back to EDM]
Hello, could you not spit out food?
How about radio version? Radio version?
Let's do together, Real GOT7 [firmed up cheeks].
I like this.
Like a visible radio.
Do you want to try a stronger beats? Or…
[Looks like they are working on title song for new album]
Does it have a beat?
Are we making a beat?
[Making logo song is getting serious than expected]
Or should we make it real?
Each makes it then (choose it).
It's getting too bigger.
Pass it to A&R team.
And get a check from A&R team.
Do you want to try harmony like MAMAMOO?
[Jackson recommends a cappella style logo song]
Let's try. Sounds good?
Let's try.
I wish we could emphasize GOT7.
I like it. I like your idea.
Then let's start with BamBam, who sang well on radio.
[He suddenly attacks while pretending to give an idea]
BIGBANG's "LOSER."
He sang really well.
[The biggest laugh since its beginning]
Google 'BamBam LOOSER'.
Really?
I wanted to listen to it live.
Did you really sing?
"Don't blame that blue sky"
[Refuse live singing]
Did he really do?
He really did.
Did he good?
Yes. He did well. He did a good job.
It was really good.
Because he did very well…
Can you google it?
['Bbom'-imitating]
At that time, LEE hong-ki fell in BamBam.
So how we make the melody?
BamBam, please show your making first.
Are you going to throw (the tissue)?
Try the harmony.
When I can watch BamBam?
He was in the beginning.
Continue to play it.
Hey, someone added subtitles in this video.
There he is x 3
['Bam'crazy is satisfied]
Back part is funny too. Play more.
[BamBam's 'half air and half sound' makes the studio laugh]
He made 'a half air and half sound'.
It's crazy.
Back to the melody, we have to multiply notes.
[Comeback to the main point, they decide the melody]
One by one.
It's so funny.
When its subtitles were added?
Mark and I want to sing in the lowest pitch.
Then you should go first.
Is '7' the last?
[What an amateur a cappella group]
You have to sing '7~' like this.
We sing better than we thought [satisfied].
Let's try one more time.
Lower the voice.
That's too low.
It became flat.
[Perfect pitch Jackson points out eldest's flat sound]
- It became a flat, isn't it? / - It is.
Because I don't have that long breathe.
[Surprising that he could focus on seriously…]
Wooah~ It's really good.
Sounds too generous.
Why not? It's 4 years after debut.
Okay x 2
I watched one senior idol played the game, 'Hello, Cleopatra'.
And I hope our team could play that game later.
[BamBam suggests a game in the middle]
This is too high.
What if we reverse 'Hello, Cleopatra'?
What's 'Hello, Cleopatra'?
You have to clap your hands.
I will do.
Wait. How do you know that game?
I watched the video.
I don't believe you.
I watched seniors were playing it, really.
Why?
This game is popular. Everyone knows it.
I watched it online.
[Let four members who know this game try out]
[Each player should make a higher note to make a next turn]
You have to go up by a note.
[A safe start]
[This is easy to killing part pro]
[Voice king, main vocal]
[Smile when singing]
[Look at BamBam's vein]
[Give up]
My throat hurts if I sing in high pitch.
I can't because my throat hurts.
Let's not play it but go with 'harmony'.
I like the harmony most.
How about harmony?
'Real GOT', 'Real GOT' then the last member sings '7'.
You go first.
Don't make a flat sound.
We have to go one by one.
I will go first. Start.
[A cluster of chorus soon restarts]
We should go in order.
Why are you singing in the third time?
I don't know.
Jackson, Mark, then…
No, two should sing together.
We don't need too many parts, but make into three.
2 sing in low part, 2 sing in high part, and 3 sing in middle part.
[A cappella group systematically distributes parts]
Yugyeom and Jingyoung take the middle part, and BamBam…
Who will sing '7'?
Altogether.
For whom this harmony is?
Like we go back in the beginning.
Start.
Wait, it doesn't sound harmonious from here.
I think everyone sings '7' same.
Everyone sings '7' same.
You should sing low.
Sorry. Let's practice for the last.
So, in the beginning,
You just need to follow your part.
At first, the middle part needs to be a main.
And at '7', high part needs to be a main.
BamBam, we sing '7'~ like this.
So the low part goes first, and four should make one's sound low.
In the last part, beside 2 main vocals should make one's sound low.
No beat is needed?
Start.
Oh, it's good.
Let's forget the harmony.
Let's just do this, 'Real GOT7'.
Let's give up the harmony.
We're performance group.
Then shall we perform martial arts?
'Real GOT7' equals back handspring.
"Whenever 'Real GOT7~'"
This is the one, because our song title is "Never Ever".
Real GOT7 won't go anywhere.
[Singing in hard]
Not good?
It wasn't bad.
Why are you laughing? [Pointing staffs]
You really make me sad.
The song must be addictive, with one listening.
It is not that important.
It is important.
It became so important to us.
[Unexpectedly, logo song making becomes serious]
Staffs never thought we would be like this.
Just like a short logo song.
Let's be honest, Real GOT7.
What's next after 'let's'?
Like, 'let's be honest, Real GOT7'.
Good, let's go with this.
[For more various logo song makings, check 'behind of Real GOT7 episode 2']
We have made various logo songs, and also had mukbang (eating show).
In the end, nothing is concluded.
You're right. We need to check our edited video.
I'm fool.
JB's idea wasn't bad.
[They fully enjoyed eating and singing - done]
We've enjoyed food very much.
Thank you for the food, and we're going to wrap up our episode 2.
Guys, Real GOT7 is just a beginning.
And we'll come back with various ideas.
Please look forward us a lot.
And enjoy our show.
Enjoy our 'Real' aspects.
This is just a beginning.
If there's an intro (song), will there be an outro too? [Greedy]
Outro such as … the sound when you turn off the cellphone.
Making outro would be tough…
Just say, "This has been GOT7."
[???]
When Mac book is on, its apple logo is screened.
With the sound 'dding~'
Mine doesn't have a sound.
Don't you know the sound when Windows is on?
That's open.
That's right.
Ah~ That's from the classic WINDOWS98
This has been GOT7.
Goodbye should be lead by our leader.
Let's say a goodbye. Okay, two, three.
This has been GOT7, thank you.

that's not loud enough, yeah!
I, I know what you're doing there
you're conserving your energy for the song, right?
so this, this one's a song that I really love doing
audience participation with, it's
brilliant for everyone outside to hear
people getting enthusiastic about it, because basically
all you do is when I say 'no way'
you say 'no way'
when I say 'go away'
you say 'go away'
wanna try that? Let's try this out
one, two, three, four
no way (no way)
go away (go away)
that's alright, but
you know, you can do it a little more enthusiastically
let's do it again, ready, one, two, three, four
no way (no way)
go away (go away)
that's when the people outside they're like
'oh'
good fun, very exciting, it's a very social sort of song
this one
um, it's a song all about computer games
got a few gamers in the room by any chance?
yeah?
well, maybe you'll relate to this
but, no one judge me on my gaming habits from this
they are completely under control, just trust me
on that there

life said 'write your notes up'
I said 'time for Candy Crush'
life said 'the test is next week'
I said 'I'll hack into your grade's sheet'
here we go, no way (no way)
go away (go away)
I'm not gonna stop 'til I beat the game
no way (no way)

oh oh oh oh oh oh
oh oh oh oh oh oh
life said 'you're wasting hours on nothing'
I said 'hand-eye coordination'
life said 'you'll have to get a real job'
I said 'I couldn't hear you over Sega'
life said 'get off that web page'
I said 'I'll verse you in a two play'
life said 'you'll have to take a pay cut'
I said 'soz, I've used all of your download up'
here we go again, no way (no way)
go away (go away)
I'm not gonna stop 'til I beat the game
no way (no way)
go away (go away) eh eh
I'm not gonna stop 'til I beat the game
oh oh oh oh oh oh
I'm not gonna stop 'til I beat the game
oh oh oh oh oh oh
cause I'm Mario, Lara Croft and I'm
building my Sims a loft
and I'm in a war with aliens and
wizards and dragons
and there's super powers, turbo jets
Plants and Zombies, Grand Theft
I'm filling up these stadiums
and Bowser is punching way above his weight with Peach
this is the last one and it's the biggest one
you've been doing pretty well but I reckon you can do even better
ready for it?

yeah? One, two, three, four
no way (no way)
go away (go away)
I'm not gonna stop 'til I beat the game
no way (no way)
go away (go away) eh eh
I'm not gonna stop 'til I beat the game
oh oh oh oh oh oh
I'm not gonna stop 'til I beat the game
oh oh oh oh oh oh
I'm not gonna stop 'til I beat the game
oh oh oh oh oh oh
I'm not gonna stop 'til I beat the game
oh oh oh oh oh oh
I'm not gonna stop 'til I beat the game
