Waching daily Apr 24 2017

Hey everyone! On this episode of Clairity

we're talking with Alexandra , a makeup artist for Artistry.

At just 16 years old,

Alexandra left Ecuador and moved to the

United States to pursue her American dream.

Now she's showing off her skills

at Fashion Week and beyond. So let's get started.

So can you speak a little bit to your upbringing

and how it influenced your

entrepreneurial spirit?

When I was 7-years-old, my dad actually said,

"OK. I'm gonna teach you how to start a business."

And he bought me a bag of candy.

Then he said, "OK so you're gonna sell

each piece of candy

this amount right then after you're done

you're going to pay me back and you're

going to keep the profit so that you

can start your own capital and that I just started

my own little venture from there.

He was always the one that would be

the dreamer and just like pushing us

to be better to my new opportunities.

At some point I did call my dad and I said,

you know, "I don't think I'm gonna make it."

"I need to go back."

And he said, "No, because you have to finish what you start."

My husband and I, since we got together,

we knew we wanted to be in business for ourselves.

We met our mentors and we wanted to do to

the opportunity it was just like the

light at the end of the tunnel, because when

you come here it's like the American

dream but little by little we were like,

"Oh my god, like okay, is there a life here?"

Because you can work so much and then you have no time.

I think that that part of really making the push —

a lot of people say, "Oh I don't have time for this, I don't have time for that..."

You have to make the time.

Right.

Something that I really love about Artistry,

not only about this collection,

It's that it focuses so much on your skin.

It's your natural glow so that's the beauty

of this look: it's shiny it's beautiful

it's glowing, so a lot of women don't like makeup.

Some do, some don't...

but the beauty of this collection

is that it's just the beauty within.

That's what we call it.

Amazing!

I understand you've also done makeup for a

New York Fashion Week.

What's that experience like?

Well that experience is awesome.

I can imagine.

It's really, really exciting.

Especially when you get to

work with a lot of makeup artists backstage

and the environment is crazy. You have two

girls taking the makeup off and then you

three putting it on.

You know, it's stressful because she has

to be done if she's up next but

it's a balance of everything.

A little crazy, but it's fun.

Amazing.

For me, being a makeup artist, it's

not, you know, just the profession or just

something I do it's a privilege as well

because when somebody, you know,

books you and then — my goal is not only

to just go, "Oh, alright..." I do the makeup and then I leave.

It's the attitude, it's the way that

that I talk to them, to the lady

or other girl or it's a bride.

And then just making them feel beautiful.

Not only with the products

that you use but just be the

art and being yourself and putting your

skills into place and making sure you

tell them how beautiful they are.

I love that.

You look beautiful.

Every woman has their own beauty.

With make up, without makeup...but when you are

a makeup artist and you get to be part

of that transformation when they look at

themselves before and after

it's definitely rewarding.

Beautiful!

One of my last questions is, if you could look back

and tell your 16-year-old self on her

way to America - anything - what would you tell her?

Oh wow.

You know what? I don't think that would tell

myself anything different.

I am so blessed and I'm so grateful that my

parents really raised me on good

principles and values and I carry that

with me, you know being able to

build with my husband even by myself

with all the things I've accomplished in

my professional career you know the

immigration field, as well as a makeup

artist and now just as a wife, so I

think, you know, I'm pretty satisfied.

There's always room for growth but I

think the foundation that I was given at

home, I really I don't think that I would say anything different.

That's amazing.

Using CRISPR to reverse retinitis pigmentosa and restore visual function - Duration: 2:46.

Using the gene-editing tool CRISPR/Cas9, researchers at University of California San Diego and

few other researchers have reprogrammed mutated rod photoreceptors to become functioning cone

photoreceptors, reversing cellular degeneration and restoring visual function in two mouse

models of retinitis pigmentosa.

Retinitis pigmentosa (RP) is a group of inherited vision disorders caused by numerous mutations

in more than 60 genes.

The mutations affect the eyes' photoreceptors, specialized cells in the retina that sense

and convert light images into electrical signals sent to the brain.

There are two types: rod cells that function for night vision and peripheral vision, and

cone cells that provide central vision (visual acuity) and discern color.

The human retina typically contains 120 million rod cells and 6 million cone cells.

In RP, which affects approximately 100,000 Americans and 1 in 4,000 persons worldwide,

rod-specific genetic mutations cause rod photoreceptor cells to dysfunction and degenerate over time.

Initial symptoms are loss of peripheral and night vision, followed by diminished visual

acuity and color perception as cone cells also begin to fail and die.

There is no treatment for RP.

The eventual result may be legal blindness.

In their published research, the research team used CRISPR/Cas9 to deactivate a master

switch gene called Nrl and a downstream transcription factor called Nr2e3.

CRISPR, which stands for Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats, allows

researchers to target specific stretches of genetic code and edit DNA at precise locations,

modifying select gene functions.

Deactivating either Nrl or Nr2e3 reprogrammed rod cells to become cone cells.

Cone cells are less vulnerable to the genetic mutations that cause RP.

The researchers' strategy was to use gene therapy to make the underlying mutations irrelevant,

resulting in the preservation of tissue and vision.

The scientists tested their approach in two different mouse models of RP.

In both cases, they found an abundance of reprogrammed cone cells and preserved cellular

architecture in the retinas.

Electroretinography testing of rod and cone receptors in live mice show improved function

THE POWER OF HUMAN THOUGHT HOW THE PLACEBO EFFECT ACTUALLY WORKS IN FAVOUR OF YOUR HEALTH - Duration: 12:52.

THE POWER OF HUMAN THOUGHT HOW THE PLACEBO EFFECT ACTUALLY WORKS IN FAVOUR OF YOUR HEALTH

BY KALEE BROWNAPRIL

When I was really young, whenever I felt sick, my grandmother used to make me cinnamon sugar

toast. I felt like I could taste her love with every bite, and by the time I had finished

my toast, my stomachache would have magically disappeared. In hindsight, I recognize that

the dairy in the butter and the refined sugar in the cinnamon blend probably werent helping

my digestive issues, yet somehow this meal always made me feel better. How does this

make any sense? Herein lies the mystery of the placebo effect.

No, science cannot prove that when my grandmother delivered me cinnamon toast with a loving

smile and a giant hug, I instantly felt better, but as a five-year-old child I certainly experienced

that. Though my grandmother may not have realized it, she was likely harnessing the power of

the placebo effect.

What Is the Placebo Effect?

The placebo effect is essentially the idea that your brain can convince your body that

a fake treatment, because it (your brain) thinks its real, can provide real solutions

and stimulate healing in the body. In essence, the placebo effect shows us how powerful our

minds, how powerful our consciousness is, in that we can change our biology using our

beliefs.

Many of you may have played around with the concept You become what you think about

most of the time, meaning your thoughts literally become your reality. Businessmen

like Kevin Trudeau have used it to make billions of dollars, and many people including myself

enjoy witnessing the law of attraction in our everyday lives. However, how does this

work when it comes to our health?

Well, science is starting to realize that, in some cases, a placebo can be equally as

effective as the original treatments themselves.

The placebo effect is more than positive thinking believing a treatment or procedure

will work. Its about creating a stronger connection between the brain and body and

how they work together, says Professor Ted Kaptchuk of Harvard-affiliated Beth Israel

Deaconess Medical Center, who has studied the placebo effect extensively.

However, Kaptchuk believes that the placebo effect can only go so far. Placebos may

make you feel better, but they will not cure you, says Kaptchuk. They have been shown

to be most effective for conditions like pain management, stress-related insomnia, and cancer

treatment side effects like fatigue and nausea.

Its people like Kaptchuk who are challenging the way the scientific community typically

looks at the placebo effect. In the past, placebos have been used in clinical trials,

most often in drug tests, and were typically associated with failure. The mentality was

that if you werent one of the participants who got the drug, you didnt receive the

benefits. Alternatively, if both groups of participants those who received placebo

pills and those who actually took the drug experienced similar effects, then the

drug was deemed ineffective.

However, scientists are now starting to realize that similar reactions may not mean a drug

doesnt work, but rather that the placebo is actually working in a similar fashion.

What if these participants believed they were taking the drug, and thus experienced health

benefits as a result? Experts have concluded that reacting to a placebo doesnt mean

a certain treatment doesnt work, but rather that an alternative, non-pharmacological treatment

may be present.

The Science Behind the Placebo Effect

Though we dont understand how the placebo effect actually works just yet, a Harvard

University article explains that it involves a complex neurobiological reaction that includes

everything from increases in feel-good neurotransmitters, like endorphins and dopamine, to greater activity

in certain brain regions linked to moods, emotional reactions, and self-awareness. All

of it can have therapeutic benefit.

The placebo effect is a way for your brain to tell the body what it needs to feel better,

says Kaptchuk.

When you look at these studies that compare drugs with placebos, there is the entire environmental

and ritual factor at work, explains Kaptchuk. You have to go to a clinic at certain times

and be examined by medical professionals in white coats. You receive all kinds of exotic

pills and undergo strange procedures. All this can have a profound impact on how the

body perceives symptoms because you feel you are getting attention and care.

A study published in Science Translational Medicine that was conducted by Kaptchuk in

2014 tested the placebo effect in relation to migraines. One group of participants took

a migraine drug that had the drugs name listed on it, another group took a placebo

labelled placebo (meaning they were conscious that they were the placebo group),

and a third group took nothing. Shockingly, their findings showed that the placebo was

50% as effective as the actual pain medication after experiencing a migraine, despite the

participants having known who was in the placebo group and who was not.

The researchers concluded that this was largely due to the simple act or ritual of taking

a pill, as its considered to be comforting to people.

People associate the ritual of taking medicine as a positive healing effect, says Kaptchuk.

Even if they know its not medicine, the action itself can stimulate the brain

into thinking the body is being healed.

This is comforting to learn, as this suggests that you yourself could administer the placebo

effect, despite you knowing that it is simply placebo and nothing more. Kaptchuk actually

has some suggestions as to how you can facilitate this yourself.

Engaging in the ritual of healthy living eating right, exercising, yoga, quality

social time, meditating probably provides some of the key ingredients of a placebo effect,

says Kaptchuk.

Another study published in 2002 in the New England Journal of Medicine, (1) conducted

by the Baylor School of Medicine, looked at surgery for patients with severe and debilitating

knee pain. The patients were divided into three groups. One group endured the first

type of knee surgery, as the surgeons shaved the damaged cartilage in their knees. Another

group had their knee joints flushed out, removing all of the material believed to be causing

inflammation. Both of these processes are the standard surgeries people go through who

have severe arthritic knees.

The third group received a fake surgery, as the patients were sedated and tricked into

thinking that they actually had knee surgery. The doctors still made incisions and splashed

salt water on the knee as they would in normal surgery, and then they sewed up the incisions,

but without performing any real surgeries on their knees. All three groups went through

the same rehab process, and the results were astonishing. The placebo group improved just

as much as the other two groups who had surgery.

Another 2002 article published in the American Psychological Associations Prevention & Treatment,

conducted by University of Connecticut Psychology Professor Irving Kirsch and titled The

Emperors New Drugs, made some more shocking discoveries (5)(4). Kirsch found that 80%

of the effectiveness of antidepressants, as measured in clinical trials, could be attributed

to the placebo effect. Kirsch even filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request

to get information on the clinical trials of the top antidepressants.

The difference between the response of the drugs and the response of the placebo

was less than two points on average on this clinical scale that goes from fifty to sixty

points. Thats a very small difference, that difference is clinically meaningless,

Professor Kirsch explains (source).

A Conscious Note

Some of this information may not be new to you, as monks and other teachers have been

preaching the power of the mind for years. Many people have been successfully using a

combination of thoughts, meditation, and emotional healing to cure diseases for a very long time.

For example, radiation oncologist Dr. Carl Simonton and his wife Stephanie Matthews-Simonton,

a psychologist, wrote the book Getting Well Again: A Step-by-Step Self-Help Guide to Overcoming

Cancer for Patients and Their Families. The book explores how people can affect their

disease process through healing their emotions.

Louise Hay is another well-known author who discusses the emotional causes of cancer in

her book You Can Heal Your Life. A cancer survivor herself, she cured her disease in

only six months using a combination of affirmations, visualization, nutritional cleansing, and

psychotherapy. According to Hay, cancer is simply the manifestation of deep hurt, secrets,

longstanding resentment, grief, and/or hatred.

The mind can be an incredible asset when it comes to your physical and mental health,

but it can also contribute to your illnesses. Negative self talk can lower your vibration

and increase your stress levels, and chronic stress is associated with countless diseases,

including cancer.

I personally believe that your thoughts become your reality, and I have experimented with

this and found it to be true in all aspects of life, including health. If you believe

that you can heal yourself through positive self talk and other modalities using the mind,

then I believe youre increasing your chances of succeeding in improving your health. Likewise,

if you dont believe your mind can change your overall health, then you probably wont

see any notable differences because thats what you believe!

NASA's Fermi Catches Gamma-ray Flashes from Tropical Storms - Duration: 3:03.

Convective storms hold an extraordinary

surprise. Under just the right conditions,

they fire off some of the highest-energy light naturally found on Earth--

terrestrial gamma-ray flashes, or TGFs.

Rising and falling snow and ice particles

repeatedly collide, filling the cloud with electrical charge. Once the

electric field is strong enough, a current flows and a lightning flash

occurs. The flash produces an abrupt reconfiguration of

the electric field. In some cases, a surge of electrons

rushes toward the upper part of the storm at speeds nearly as

fast as light. When deflected by air molecules, these

accelerated electrons give off gamma rays, producing a TGF.

Data from NASA's Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope

suggest more than a thousand TGFs occur each day all over the globe.

For the first time, improved data link dozens of

TGFs to specific tropical weather systems.

Tropical storms far from land tend to generate less frequent lightning.

Nevertheless, observations show they are surprisingly prolific producers

of TGFs. Tropical Storm Manuel

made landfall just shy of hurricane strength. As it rapidly

weakened, it produced two TGFs within 24 hours.

More typically, TGFs are associated with the strengthening

phase of a storm. As Typhoon Bolaven rapidly

developed in 2012, thunderstorms nearly 500 miles from

its center launched a TGF with four distinct pulses.

So far, the record-holder for TGFs

is the rapidly strengthening tropical wave that later gave birth

to Hurricane Julio. It produced four TGFs within

100 minutes. A fifth followed the next day, with nothing further.

What scientists learned so far

is that weather tropical storms are capable of producing more TGFs,

and those events can arise anywhere in the storm.

For stronger storms, like hurricanes and typhoons, TGFs are more common

in the outer rain bands, which host the highest lightning flash rates

in these storms. The findings provide new insights

into the relationship between storm intensity, lightning frequency,

and TGFs. This adds another important piece to the puzzle

of our understanding of TGFs and how they are created in thunderstorms--

the most powerful natural particle accelerators on planet Earth.

FALLOUT 4 - Building effective defenses and automated door [PS4 - Mods] - Duration: 9:32.

greetings earthlings welcome to the Madqueen

Show I am your host the MadQueen

And Mr Ruvver

On today's menu we're here at Tenpines and we're going

to learn how to build defenses that

are going to protect all settlement so

we don't need to worry anymore every

time that we read the message that our

settlement is under attack because it's

super annoying you can always use the mod

yeah but I don't want to use the mod

you know I always try to keep my list

of mods minimal and I really rather in

terms of role-playing game I really

rather to make my settlements effective

in a way that they don't really need me

or a mod to go helping them every time

they need help I want them to be able to

help themselves it would be great if

they started by building their own beds

but this is not going to happen so at

least i'm going to give them good defenses

and by the way the echo that

you are hearing in this audio it's not

because I change my style is because

I am doing some real life building at home

and the room where i usually record my videos is now empty

So I have lots of echo

I'm doing some major changes in this room

I want to turn it into my YouTuber room which is a great

excuse for you know at a little

decoration because one of the reasons

why I absolutely adore building in

Fallout 4 is because i am a frustrated decorat and unfortunately i don't have

the budget and even less the space

Because we live in the Batcave

Yes we do, but actually having our youtube channel

is proven to be a great excuse to

rebuild all this area because I couldn't

find a better excuse because we all know

that this channel is not big enough

Well, it's bigger than your whole flat

The bad part is that this is lots of work and

I'm doing it myself and I needed to hire

someone to help me out with the most

difficult parts because some are very

difficult for just one person which also

means that unfortunately this week I'm

not going to be able to upload lots of

videos mostly mostly because I need to

remove the computer from here

and I don't know where I'm going to put it

and also the modem for the internet which means

that i'm not going to have internet to

upload them

Shit! Where am I going to watch the porn?

But yes once i'm done with the

desk part i will be able to put the

computer back here, to put the internet again

and I will be able to do videos

again although as I said I don't have

lots of time because I spend my day

painting and painting more and painting even more

We need a real life mod for THAT

So back to the building: DEFENSES

it is common knowledge that

you need to put defenses with equal the

resources that you have in your settlement

that are the food and water

but the thing is that after several

experiments I realized that the amount

of settlers that you have in a

settlement also modifies the amount of

defense that you need to avoid being

raided but I must confess that even

though I did lots of tests I couldn't

find out exactly what was exactly the

number but the thing is that if you go

crazy with the defenses you are not going

to find any kind of problem at all

this is even more common sense

And a good excuse to put turrets everywhere

So the first intelligent thing to do is to fence your

settlement and in here we build the

typical scrappy wall that if you want to

see how to build it i'm going to put a

link in description to another video

where i built the scrappy wall

and the thing is that you really need to be

careful here because there are

settlements were the raiders spawn inside

so knowing the spawning point is important

and also if you fence the

settlement make sure that you don't go

to the borders of the buildble area

Because if you do you're not going to be able to put turrets

Exactly so as you could see here

I put turrets all around my fence in the outside part

and to do so I used this lovely stand from covenant that

you can find in the mod Unlocked

Settlement Objects by AndrewCX

plus in here I have to settlers in the

defense that I like to dress them as

military or something like that this way

they stand out and I can see if they

didn't show for work so in total I have

124 defense in

this settlement which is great because

I have 14 in resources but most

probably i'm going to put more water in

the future but the most useful thing in

the defenses of the settlement is that

we're going to build a door that is

going to keep raiders away from your

settlement to do this we need a powered door

obviously and then a siren and a

logic gate and this is the simplest

version of it let me know if you'd like

to see our version that is more complex

because I have versions with all

possible levels of complexity but for

this video I thought that the best thing

that I could do was keep it simple and useful

So the logic gate that we are

going to use in here is NAND logic gate

and what this logic gate does is that it

transmits power unless all inputs have

power so why do we do it this way?

Because one of the inputs that we are

going to put is a siren and sirens

detect when you are being raided and

when they detected they turned on and

when they turn on they transmit power so

the two inputs of the logic gate are

going to be in one hand electricity

regular one and on the other one the siren

so we're going to have the inputs 1 and 0

which means that this logic gate is going to transmit power

and the next thing that we are going to do is adding

a switch because I said that this was

the most simple version but we don't

want to make it absolutely simple and I

didn't realize when I was building this

but I wrongly connected to switch to the

input of the logic gate instead of the

output and that's the reason why when I

complete the whole circuit it doesn't work

and the next thing that we are going to do is that

we are going to rug-glitch a conduit

that's the way how we are going to wire this switch to the

switch that we are going through put

outside because if you rug-glitch the

conduit this is the best way to move it

without the wire affecting the snapping

so yes we have to conduit it in here

so, what we are going to do in here is that

we're going to put a switch in the

outside part of the door and this switch

is going to be powered by the switch in

the inside of the wall. why?

Because this way you can block the door from the inside

but you can also close it from

the outside when you leave the

settlement if you want to leave it

closed because you know the settlers are

not going to open the door by themselves

I don't know why but they just don't do it

This adds a little extra security

if you don't trust your settlers

so, in here, again, we are rug-glitching a conduit to

give power to the door from this switch

in the outside of the door to the door itself

Yes I'm just clicking x

X for PlayStation without knowing

where I'm putting the item but it doesn't

matter because it's rug-glitched

I can move it afterwards and again as I

mentioned before this is not working

because the switch of inside is plugged to

the logic gate in the input and not in

the output as it should be

So if we connect switch to the output of the

logic gate as it should've been in the first place

everything works perfectly fine

and the door opens and if the siren is

triggered what it does is automatically

closes the doors and there is no way to

open them until the siren is off

and this also means that you need to make

sure that you put your most powerful

turrets in front of the door and this

way what they're going to see is that

corpses pile up in front of it

I've seen it in a couple of settlements of

mine and they take a little to despawn

so I have you know

A pile of dead people in underwear?

well actually yes because I take everything they have so

once that everything is connected and

only after you check that everything

works perfectly fine we can pillar-glitch

all or conduits inside the walls this

way we are not going to see them and

it all is going to looks perfectly neat and cute

Well folks, thanks for wathing, I hope you found this information useful

and amusing and leave a comment and let

me know if you want to see more complex

versions of this door because logic

gates when they do work because they are

really buggy and they sometimes don't

when they do work they are so funny to use

so there are lots of variants of

this are really really funny

Alexandru Lăpuşneanul | Chapter II | Crowhag Chronicles #8 - Duration: 9:17.

Tomsa, not feeling able to oppose, ran to Wallachia and Lapusneanul didn't encounter

any impediment in his way.

The people everywhere greeted him with joy and hope, recalling his first ruling, in which

he did not have time to reveal his ugly side.

The boyars were fretful.

They had two big words to worry about.

They knew the people hated them and that the lord did not love them.

As soon as he arrived, Lapusneanul ordered that all the fortresses of Moldavia be filled

with wood, all aside Hotin, and burnt them down, in his desire to ruin the homes of the

ungrateful, who many times, under the shelter of these walls, they were plotting and instigated

riots.

To dry out the influence of the boyars and to extirpate the nests of feudalism, he bared

them from their fortunes under all sorts of excuses, thus stripping them down from the

only way they could lure in and corrupt the people.

But not considering this plan to be enough, he would kill them from time to time.

At the slightest governing mistake, the smallest complaint brought before him, the head of

the accused would hang at the gate of his court, with a note of his mistake, true or

false, and he wouldn't get to rot, because another head would take his place already.

No one dared to speak against him seeing how strong he was advancing.

A large guard of Albanian, Serbian and Hungarian mercenaries, banished for their evil deeds,

found redemption beside Alexandru, who, paying them well, had them destined to fight for

him; and the Moldavian army, under his captains, he kept them on the sides and some he let

go to their homes, thus reducing their numbers a bit.

One day he was wandering alone in the throne room.

He had a long conversation with Motoc, who entered again in his graces and just out of

them yet again as he revealed the plan of a new contribution.

He seemed agitated, talking to himself, and one could tell he would be contemplating a

new death, a new damage, when from a side door, lady Ruxandra came in.

At the death of her father, Petru Rares the Good, who – as the chronicle says – with

a lot of mourning and sadness was buried in the saint monastery Probota, built by himself,

Ruxandra was left at a young age under the tutoring of her two elder brothers, Ilias

and Stefan.

Ilias, following in his father's throne, after a short and unrestrained reign, went

to Constantinople, where he embraced Islamism and in his place followed Stefan.

He was worse than his brother; he started forcing the foreigners and the Catholics to

abandon their faith, and many rich families that lived in the country were left wandering

because of this, it brought about poverty to the land and fall of the trade.

The boyars who, most of them, were related to the Polish and the Hungarians were upset

and allying with the free Boyars they plotted his demise.

Maybe they wouldn't have been so quick with their plan, if his greed and lust wouldn't

have convinced them.

'No wife was free from his evil, if she was beautiful', says the chronicle in its

naivety.

One day, when he was at Tutora, impatient for the other noblemen to arrive, those that

were with him, in order not to let him slip, cut the ropes of his tent under which he was

resting and rushing inside, they killed him.

Now Ruxandra was the only one left from Petru Rares's family and for her, the assassin

boyars decided to marry her to some unknown named Jolde, who they chose as a lord.

But Lapusneanul, chosen by the free boyars, greeting Joldea, got a hold of him, cut his

nose and sent him into monasticism; and to appeal to the hearts of the people in which

Rares was still alive, he married his daughter.

Thus the delicate Ruxandra was on the side of the victor.

When she came in the throne room, she was dressed with all the luxury worthy of a wife,

daughter and sister of a Lord.

Over the vest of golden fabric, she was wearing a coat of blue Flanders, fur-lined with sable,

which's sleeves were hanging down; it was girded with a golden girdle, that fastened

with big Matos buckles, rounded with precious stones; and on her neck was hanging a chain

of many rows of pearls.

Her hat of sable, a bit on the side of her head, was embellished with white panache and

supported by a big flower of emeralds.

Her hair, after that time's fashion, was splitting loose on her shoulders and her back.

Her face had that beauty that made Romanian women famous from even back then and that

you can rarely encounter anymore, now degenerating from the mix with the outlandish nations.

Yet, she was sad and languid, as a flower exposed to the burning Sun, that has nothing

to shadow her from it.

She saw her parents die, watched one of her brothers renounce his faith and the other

one killed; and then destined to be Jolde's wife by the boyars, whom she didn't even

know, now forced by the same people, who disposed of her heart without even asking her, to be

with Lord Alexandru, whom she honored and succumbed to, whom she wanted to love, if

she could find in him the least bit of humanity.

Approaching him, she bent down and kissed his hand.

Lapusneanul grabbed her by her waist, picking her up like a feather and put her on his knees.

"What news do you have, my beautiful lady?

He said kissing her on her forehead; what is it that made you leave your spindles to

come here, today when there is no celebration?

What woke you up this early?"

"The tears of the widows that pour at my door and yell for retribution to Christ and

to the Holy Mother, for the blood you spill."

Lapusneanul, gloomily opened his arms; Ruxandra fell at his feet.

"O, my good lord!

My brave husband!

She said, enough!

Let it be done with all this spilled blood, so many widows, so many poor devils!

Consider that you are too strong and that some poor boyars wouldn't do you any harm.

What else do you need, your highness?

You have war with no one, the country is quiet and obedient.

I, God knows!

How much I love you!

And your children are young and beautiful.

Think that after life there is death and that you too are mortal and you will be judged!

Because with monasteries you cannot pay for blood, especially not allure and confront

God, thinking that building churches you can appease Him, and…"

"Foolish woman!"

Lapusneanul yelled, standing straight up, with his hand, out of habit, resting on the

dagger in his belt; but quickly, composing himself, he bent down and picking Ruxandra

up from the floor: "My lady!

He said, never allow such mad words escape your mouth again, because truly, I don't

know what might happen then.

Thank the great martyr Dimitrie, the Source of Myrrh, whose church is celebrated in the

building we did for him at Pangarati, for stopping us from committing a sin, reminding

us that you are the mother of our children."

"Even if I knew you would kill me, I wouldn't be silent.

Yesterday, when I wanted to come in, a wife with 5 children threw themselves before my

chariot and stopped me showing me a head above the court's gate: 'You will be judged,

milady!' she said, that you allow your man to slice our parents, husbands and brothers…

Look, milady, this is my husband, the father of these children, who are now poor!

Look!" and she was pointing at that bloody head and the head was looking awfully at me!

Ah!

Lord!

Since then I cannot stop seeing that head and I am so scared!

I cannot rest.

"And what do you want?"

Asked Lapusneanu with a smile.

"I want you to stop spilling blood, stop killing, I don't want to see anymore heads

at the sight of which my heart jumps out of my chest."

"I promise you that from the day after tomorrow you will not see it anymore, said lord Alexandru,

and I will give you a cure for fear."

"How?

What are you saying?"

"You will see tomorrow.

Now, dear lady, go and look after your kids and your home how it's fitting of a good

wife and prepare a great feast, because tomorrow I will invite the boyars to dine with me."

Lady Ruxandra left after kissing his hand once more.

Her man accompanied her to the door.

"Everything ready then?"

He asked, quickly going towards his guard, who just entered.

"Everything is ready."

"But will they indeed come?"

"Indeed they will."
