Recent YA Reads // The Hate U Give, We Are Okay, The Sun is Also a Star, etc! [CC] - Duration: 10:40.

Hello, everybody, so today I wanted to

make a video about the recent YA

books that i have read. These are mostly

all new releases or within the last

couple of months, except for one, and yeah

I'm excited so let's get talking about

some books. The first book I read

recently was actually book that came out

last year last June and it's if I was your

Girl by Meredith Russo. If I was Your

Girl is the story of a transgirl named

Amanda who moved to a new city to live

with her father after a traumatic

incident while she was living with her

mother. She goes to new high school, meets

a new boy, meets friends and essentially

it's just kind of a coming-of-age type

high school romance YA romance, but

told from the perspective of a trans

girl which completely changes the game.

This is an ownvoices novel and I also

think it's really important to take into

account the message it's on the back of

the ARC that I have here that I got last

year, but I think it's the author's note

at the end of the book, which is

essentially saying that this is not

every trans persons experience. This is a

really almost idyllic version of a trans

persons experience who comes out and a

lot of people are accepting and for the

most part a lot of the close people to

Amanda are really kind and understanding

in certain ways. Russo has also given a

message to her transreaders saying that

this is not everyone's experience, that

if your experience is different, it's

completely valid and completely your own and I

just think that was really important and

something that I want to mention before

talking about this book really. I'm really

happy this book exists because while it

is obviously never the responsibility of

transpeople to tell cispeople how to

behave and the correct questions to ask

and the way to talk about the trans

experience as a whole, this is a really

accessible way and there are

conversations between Amanda and some of

her friends that are just really

thoughtful. Overall, I think this is just

a really important step in young adult

literature. This is one of the first

books I've ever read from the

perspective of a transgirl and I think

it's really important to have that in

young adult literature because it makes

it accessible for younger readers trying

to learn about other people's

experiences. Again, I'm not trans so I

can't really speak to the representation

but I do think the author has gone

out of her way to make it clear that

this is one representation of a trans

experience and that, yeah, I think that's

really important and I think it's really

interesting and I enjoyed

this read. The next book I read is a book that

I've heard a lot about here on booktube

and it's The Sun is Also a Star by

Nicola Yoon. You may know from my

February reads video that I had some issues,

quite a lot of issues, with Everything

Everything and the more I've read into

it, the more issues that actually have

with Everything, Everything so I was

hesitant going in this, but I really

enjoyed this much more than I did

her first, Yoon's first novel. The Sun

is Also a Star is the story of Natasha,

whose family is going to be deported

back to Jamaica on the evening of this

book. The entire story, this whole story takes

place, more or less, within one day. She's

trying to find out a way to not be

deported and through her search she

meets a boy and a romance ensues. I

really liked this book. I love the

contrast and the parallels used

constantly throughout the novel.

Natasha's pragmatism versus Daniel's

idealism, the impact that one little

action has on one person and the major

impact it has on another person. There

was a really interesting parallel

between two different characters, one

almost getting hit by a car and one

getting hit by a car and the way that

impacts both of their choices from there

on out. It's just, it's-it's it was a

really interesting story. It is a story of

giving yourself and those around you a

second chance. I've seen a lot of

criticism on this book saying that it's

unrealistic that Natasha would spend her

very last day in the country with a

complete stranger and I totally

understand that but I also feel like

that's exactly what Natasha I needed at

this point in her life. Her best friend

is across the country, she's recently

gone through a breakup, she's having all

these problems with her family and she

doesn't necessarily trust them right now.

She feels betrayed and I understand how

it would take meeting a stranger and

getting to know a stranger and being

vulnerable with a complete stranger to

kind of work through what she's been

kind of bottling up inside. Though maybe

that's just me projecting because I feel

like I've done that a lot where I've

been holding things in for so long and

then I meet someone and it just clicks

and suddenly I'm spilling out my guts so

maybe that's just me but I really

thought that resonated and I thought

that was really interesting. The whole story

is really self-aware about how wild it

is that two teens would meet and fall in

love in one day and the characters

consistently make fun of that idea and

they're really self referential about

that idea both in the dialogue as well

as in the internal monologue's of the

characters which I just found really

entertaining but I also feel like that

was really important the story because I

do feel like it's easy to fall in love

when you're in it you're a teenager. You

have so many emotions and how

quickly you feel like you've fallen in

love and how quickly emotions come and

go and I I don't know I think it was

more believable than a lot of other

people do in terms of perspective and

the teenager experience. I'm super

interested in the idea of the American

dream and I thought this is a really

interesting and different take on the

American dream. I love how their stories

play out. I didn't really need the very

last part of the epilogue, if you've read

the book you know I'm talking about. I

didn't really need that but I do really

love it. Also, quickly I will mention i

forgot to mention it earlier i think

that a lot of this book has told from

the perspective of people that Natasha

and Daniel just happened to go past or

have like a brief exchange with and I

thought that was really powerful. I loved

those chapters. i really like multiple

perspective novels. I just thought this

novel worked really well and there are a

lot of different elements that really

worked for me and I know they didn't work

for other people, but I like this a lot.

Pals, this video's can be really long. I

thought it'd be short but I've just- I'm

talking a lot. i'll try and speed things

up. The next book i have here is We Are

Okay by Nina LaCour and this is a story

of a girl who's just gone off to her

first semester at University after

dealing with a really traumatic

experience. She's grieving, she's confused,

she's going to really transitional point

in life and it rolls around to be winter

break and she's completely alone on the

campus. She's left everything she knows in

California and is in upstate New York, I

believe it is, and she's just alone and

the bleakness of the setting mixed with

the winter storm that blankets everything

with this kind of quietness and oh my

gosh this was so great. This is the first

book i've read by Nina LaCour and it

will not be the last. I think her writing

worked so well with the narrative and I

loved the characters in this book i ah

man i just love Marin. i love the way she

saw the world. A lot of people have

talked about how this is really dramatic

and how they don't like Marin because

she overreacts and things like that. I

felt everything was really justified and

I loved her story and this is just, this

is one of my favorite books i read in a

really long time and i want to reread it

already. I thought it was really

cathartic. I just I think this is great.

The next one I have here is one that I

briefly mentioned in my body is in

singularity video and that is The Hate

U Give by Angie Thomas. You've probably

heard a million things about this book,

let's be real, but it is a Black Lives

Matter story told from the perspective

of a teenager who sees her one of her

best friends

shot by a cop and she's the only witness.

The book then follows her experience going

between her school, which is really quite

white and getting that white perspective

and then going back to her neighborhood

which is entirely black and the

different sides of that narrative. As I

talked about before, it explored the

singularity and importance of each

individual life and I just really like

the perspective it took. I also really

like the way that Starr speaks. She goes

between the way she speaks with her

family and her friends in her

neighborhood versus the way she speaks

when she goes to school. It felt really

realistic and authentic, for better or

worse, it really riled me up, I just, oh

man. Really engaging novel, if you haven't

read this already you're going to want

to read it. It's really thoughtful and

great and it's going to be a classic so

get on it, you know, early. The next book I

listened to on audiobook because I

really want to buy the US edition when I

go back to the States and that is Under

Rose-Tainted Skies by Louise Gornall.

Under Rose-Tainted Skies is the story of

a teenage girl who is both agoraphobic

and OCD and it just- you're really inside

of her head throughout her journey

with mental illness. I feel like this was

a better version of what Everything

Everything was trying to be. Essentially,

she meets the boy next door it just kind

of explored her relationship with her

mental illness, with herself, with her

mother, and also with this boy she meets.

He kind of comes into her world but

doesn't try to change her at all. It's a

very introspective novel. Trigger warning

for assault self-harm, there's a lot of

that in this book, as well, and I don't

think it's on the dust jacket or

anything, so please be wary. It was

just really powerful getting into mind

of someone with a mental illness that

I've never suffered from and seeing how

that plays out into her everyday life.

This is also an own voices novel.

And the final book I have to talk to you

about today is what I finished last

night, so it's going freshest in my mind

and that's Radio Silence by Alice Osman.

Radio Silence is the story of Francis who

is the head girl, always top of her

class, really focused on getting into

Cambridge, spends all of her time, you know,

working towards her grades except for

her secret life which is as a fan artist

on tumblr. She is a massive fan of this

YouTube podcast, kind of along the lines

of Welcome to Night Vale, called Universe

City and Radio Silence is actually the

host. At the very start of the novel

Radio Silence reaches out to Francis to

do some fanart for the podcast itself

but what's interesting about this novel

is that it

does deal a lot with that internet

culture and it's kind of a perfect time

capsule of internet culture, which was

really fun but without being obnoxious

and also while dealing with so many

other issues. It really is a story about

relationships. there's a relationship

between Francis and her mother, Frances

and her best friend, Francis and a friend

that she used to have who's disappeared,

her best friend and their best friend's

mother, it's just like all these

different relationships going on and

it's just- Ah, I loved this novel.

The whole thing fell really authentic and

real and the characters are imperfect in

the most perfect way, I guess. The main

character is bisexual one of the main

characters is on the ace spectrum, which

makes it really interesting and they

actually talked about that a couple

times throughout the novel. something

that was a little bit off was that

Francis is mixed race, she is half

Ethiopian but she doesn't have any real

connection to her Ethiopian heritage

because it was her father who she

doesn't really see very often. Alice

Oseman is not Ethiopian and so

it wasn't really touched upon, I can't

speak to Ethiopian representation but I

just thought that was kind of odd. But on

the whole I think this is a fantastic

novel, it comes out in the US I think

March 28. I really recommend you check

it out if you're into internet culture

because it's so much fun and it really

is a time capsule. I don't know how well

this is a novel will age, but for now it's so

fun. I just care so much about this cast

of characters, like every character that

comes into this book I care about which

is rare. And that is all for me. Sorry

this video is really long. I'll try to edit

down as much as humanly possible but I

super recommend you check all of these

out, especially The Hate U Give, it's

going to be a really massive novel this

year. We Are Okay is amazing, I love it. It's

one of my favorite books ever now and i

love Radio Silence as well but all of

them are just so good and relevant. They're

all really quite relevant. Thank you all

for watching, let me know what YA reads

you think I should pick up next. I have a

small pile, a small ever

growing pile so yeah. Bye.

In what ways does the fossil record create problems for Darwinian evolution? - Duration: 3:04.

And, Dr. Meyer, I'm really glad that you're here.

And I want to start this program by asking you to explain how the fossil record poses

a problem for Darwinian evolution.

It actually poses two big problems.

Dr. Stephen Meyer: Right.

Well, we've been talking about a doubt that Darwin had about the adequacy of his own theory,

its ability to explain all the evidence.

And his doubt concerned a major event in the history of life known as the Cambrian explosion,

in which the first major forms, or first major groups of complex animals arose very abruptly

in the fossil record.

And this posed two problems, two mysteries, that were really unresolved by Darwinian theory.

The first I like to call the "mystery of the missing fossils."

Because these animals appear very abruptly in the Cambrian layers, but as you go back

into the lower pre-Cambrian strata you don't find any evidence of the ancestral forms of

those animals, the simpler forms you would expect to find, according to Darwin's theory.

Because Darwin expected that the first complex forms of life would have emerged very gradually

as the result of the accumulation of numerous slight variations or changes, generation to

generation.

You just don't see the accumulation of those changes in the lower strata.

Ankerberg: So that was a problem.

Meyer: That was a big problem.

But there's an even more fundamental problem, and one that we've grown to appreciate in

much more depth in the 20th century and 21st century, and that's essentially an engineering

problem.

How would the evolutionary process have built these complex forms of animal life, especially

since they arose so abruptly in such a narrow window of geologic time?

And in my book, I look at both of those two mysteries.

But the second mystery is more fundamental, and it's grown very much more acute because

of things that we've discovered in modern biology during the second half of the 20th

century, or since the 1950's.

And, in particular, things that we've discovered about the information-bearing properties of

living organisms and the information-bearing properties of the amazing molecule known as

DNA.

Ankerberg: Yeah, when Crick and Watson came out with this discovery, what did they show

us?

Meyer: Well, Watson and Crick made the extraordinary discovery in 1953 that is, you know, world-renowned.

They were able to elucidate the structure of the DNA molecule.

And they showed that the DNA molecule had this famed double-helical structure with four

chemicals running along the inside of that helix.

And as most of us learned in biology class at some point, the DNA is a molecule that

contains hereditary information and it has a helical structure.

Along the outside there is this winding ladder, double helix ladder, made of sugar and phosphate.

On the inside of the molecule there are these four chemicals called bases or nucleotide

bases.

Craft Beer Bracket Championship Game DogFish Head Beer for Breakfast vs Heavy Seas TropiCannon - Duration: 8:10.

so with that being said you've tasted

both what are your thoughts I'm going

dogfish I'd have to agree with you I

think the new holland actually has a

better taste I could be wrong because

that I'm throwing that out there is that

what you're going with though I am so I

was that so new holland well I know I

think I'm gonna have to go with

lagunitas top stoopid i think i am to

death hands down again i think Heavy Seas

yeah its ridiculous Brad we got choose one

Dogfish me too like i said i think i'm

going Heavy Seas yeah Heavy Seas all

the way alright welcome back everybody

I'm Brad I'm Steve championship game Stout

vs IPA crazy so this is this is going

to be a hard one yes so if you remember

from our beginning videos you know we

really these are two favorite styles of

beer so we think we can pick between the

two taste roughly the same but

we'll see so the first one Brad poured

for those that have been following is

Dogfish Head that one is right at 7

.4 and 30 ibus and the

TropiCannon is 7.25 and 30...45 IBUs

so a little higher in IBUs

and a little lower and alcohol at least

we can tell which one is which this time

wonder okay so what are we going to

start with either where a man flip a

coin I I say we go with the IPA

yeah okay so smell and still crazy it's

like a starburst it is it looks like

like a starburst man taste still tastes

good no uh no weird like sugary taste

right afterwards you just got to try that beer

it's okay beer for breakfast man that smells

good too and in the roasted malt still

with it being open for how long it is

it's like perfectly balanced balance

yeah it's not too dark you know of a

roast burnt anything like that plus that

peppery you know notes bell pepper notes

in there little coffee will smoky yeah

yes it's a good beer taste

beer as well get a lot of that pepper

why that smoke yeah the smoke in the

back like you get that pepper green

pepper up front then some roasted malts

then going down it's like this a little

bit of smoke and I hate smoked beer yeah

I had one smoked beer so I hate them all

I need open your pallot oh and that

thing was you know it was but it was

almost like at our KLOB where we had all

those sours like three years ago two

years ago they were horrible and i was

like i hate's sours and then yeah now i

like them but yeah is i had that one

smoked beer and it was overdone it was

like they put one bottle in a smokehouse

and it collected all the smoke here

drinking it standing round a fire like it was

smoking as i was

drinking well alright so the hard part a

winner we have to take a winner out of

it here's my dilemma I can't [lol] um they are

so good in there right classes that I

can't do it I actually don't think i can

either because then here's why if you

gave me this beer I would drink it if

you gave me this beer I would drink it

if you set both of them down

right next to me and said pick your beer

I'd be double fisted all right you know

what does it taste like nothing like

blended together yeah I honestly don't

think I can pick a winner well you know

that means from computer I mean yeah we

can't have a tie so we got go to the

computer so we will be right back and

let's see who wins we're back yes we are

actually I didn't lose this time I don't

think either of us lost I lost I

think it was round one but i didn't win

the game winning one like i did last

year no no this was this was a hard on

yep so the winner is Dogfish yep so we

went to the computers Dogfish scored an

89 on ratebeer TropiCannon came in

at an 82 now you might remember I think

one of the beers earlier got kicked out

and had a pretty high but we had a

higher score now yep but we kind of

talked about that while we're looking at

the score two and really came to the

conclusion that you know some of these

beers I think it's just it's just like

basketball you go get strong team and

they're hot but that's what you get

right i mean you might get beat by a

worse you know it's not real right team

so both great beers yeah you you can't

go wrong with either one of them and

like Steve said we're pretty sure there

were some higher scoring beers

from beer advocate or another site that

did score higher but again this was

based on what do we like yeah not okay

well here's their score this beer has to

win so and I have to say to like

compared to last year's bracket this

here was tough yeah this was like I

like every bear we tried last year there

is a clear winner yeah awful like I

think we were getting mad in the first

couple rounds like you say it's like this

and it's not even close so well I hope

you guys enjoyed this year's bracket and

we're going to do it again next year

hopefully and who knows it might be

Stouts and IPAs again yeah who know who

knows whatever everyone wants just

hopefully we won't hey let's do this

then put it out there and hey we're

going to change it to this okay we'll

DIY Brush Storage

www.wackygoose.se

Hello!

Here I am now in the shop, and I have

made a small painting corner here

because I think it can be fun not to be hidden away every day, and I can

actually have started some projects in the middle of the store

And then I have now stayed at, half the afternoon,

by trying to hang

my brushes in any way

These I have destroyed completely now

because I have kept them standing

Like, this ...

in a bowl.

They feel much better and will last much longer if they get to hang

up side down

while not using them

So here I have been around now trying to find

solutions to put this string

but then I think like .....

Well, then I have to take down this entire string

every time I want to get hold of ONE brush

and it can actually be a bit tiring ...

So I went around and thinking for a bit ...

and so I came up with an absolutely brilliant idea

So, really, brilliant.

(If I do say so myself, hehe)

No, really, it is

ingenious!

Ingenious?

It is, actually, a SO good idea!

Anyway...

I have...

A ladder here, I

had put up against the wall, I thought I would have it as a shelf

And then...

I stood and thought for a little while ...

and came up with... that I...

will take...

such like these

really long screws

I do not know what they are as type of screws

but they are all the same rounded up so they are not

pointy

so those

I will

pull in

Thus, on the front step here, pull in

all the way so that I can

in order to...

then...

be able to hang my brushes there!

Really, I am a genius!

Zzupp!

in the steps here, then we will see how many

like this I need to have

How smart am I?!

This is probably the best idea I have come

with in a long time!

That's how it is.

So...

Up here, I have my brushes now

that I will use

The other steps will I use as some kind of

shelf storage

Maybe some can with something nice or

a color can that I'm using

or such...

Totally amazing!

Actually, I am a genius!

Actually, I am a genius!

Security Minute | Tech Support Scam | Fake Tech Support Phone Calls - Duration: 0:57.

Have you ever received a phone call from

a security expert from Microsoft? How

about Apple? I'm Kyle Kunnen and this is a

Mercantile Bank security minute.

I've heard from numerous people who have

received this type of phone call. The

person on the line states that they're

from Microsoft or Apple's technical

support and the reason they're calling

is because your computer alerted them

that it had malware on it. They then try

talking you into purchasing services you

don't need or worse yet, convince you to

allow them remote access onto your

computer to fix the problem. If you get

one of these phone calls, hang up right away.

Microsoft and Apple do not

proactively reach out to consumers in

this way. For more information on this

security topic and more, visit us at

Undertaker Retires? Matt & Jeff Hardy Return To WWE! | WrestleTalk News Apr. 2017 - Duration: 4:01.

Hello and welcome to the WrestleTalk News!

I'm Oli Davis, and I'll be replying to as many comments on this video as I can.

I don't know about you, but I watched this year's Wrestlemania while chopping onions

for my spaghetti bolognese dinner.

I love spaghetti.

Unfortunately, this means I mostly missed the part where John Cena proposed to Nikki

Bella and the Undertaker seemingly retiring after the main event because my eyes were

flooded with tears.

Wrestlemania 33 was - and it pains me to say this given the annoying levels of punnage

- a rollercoaster of emotion.

Capped by The Undertaker seemingly retiring from professional wrestling, removing his

gloves, coat and hat, and leaving them in the ring while he made the very long exit

up the ramp.

At one point, even making a rare break of character, leaning over the barricade to kiss

his real-life wife Michelle McCool.

The symbolic retiring act was still in effect over 30 minutes later, with a producer tweeting

Undertaker's gear remained in the ring long after Wrestlemania had finished.

At one point it seemed as though his kayfabe Brother of Destruction Kane was about to join

him, but really, it was just a part Wrestlemania's elaborate stage catching fire as Taker made

his exit.

The other major surprise that we all figured out weeks ago was the shock WWE return of

Matt and Jeff Hardy, where they defeated Galanderson, Sheamaro and Enzo & Big Cass to become the

new Raw tag team champions.

That means the Hardys have been tag team champions in North America's top 3 promotions in just

a month long period - vacating the TNA titles on March 3rd, holding the ROH tag championships

from March 4th to April 1st, and winning the WWE belts on April 2nd.

It also marks The Hardys' first ever win as a team at Wrestlemania, stats fans.

Matt's wife Reby Sky tweeted this image of their son King Maxell in celebration.

Because he's a Hardy, I'm just going to assume he did a Swanton Bomb through a table

shortly after that photo was taken.

Matt and Jeff's WWE return came after weeks of reports they were heading back to Vince

McMahon.

The surprise was nearly spoiled even more when a fan spotted a black car at the Hardy

Boyz' tailgate party the morning of Wrestlemania with a sign reading 'WWE official vehicle'.

Real covert there, guys.

At least Jeff tried to throw people off the scent.

According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, the aptly nicknamed Charismatic Enigma

told hotel staff he was going to sleep for the rest of the day as he was really beat

up from his ROH match.

He later snuck out at the last-minute to get to Wrestlemania.

It's still unclear whether Matt and Jeff will adopt their Broken gimmick in WWE, though,

as the characters are still locked in an ownership battle with Impact Wrestling's parent company

Anthem Sports and Entertainment.

The Hardys returned at Wrestlemania with their Team Xtreme theme, signalling they'll revert

to their old gimmick, but in the pre- and post-match interviews posted to WWE's YouTube

channel, Matt frequently referenced his Broken character, with every other word being either

obsolete, delete, delightful or wonderful.

The told WWE's SnapChat account: "The Club's tag team title reign is now OBSOLETE

because The Hardys have DELETED it, yeeeeaaaas huuuh!"

Matt and Jeff are being advertised for a 'Hardy Homecoming' segment on tonight's post-Mania

episode of Raw, so we'll hopefully see what direction their characters are taking.

Shelton Benjamin might also be making his WWE return soon, and the latest WrestleSketch

is up, revealing how Goldberg prepared for his Wrestlemania 33 match.

Click the videos to the left and press subscribe.

I've been Oli Davis, I'm off to chop some more onions while thinking about The Undertaker,

and that was wrestling.

Lawsuit Against Trump For Inciting Violence At Campaign Rally Can Move Forward - Duration: 3:33.

This past week a judge in Kentucky ruled that a lawsuit against Donald Trump and several

other campaign affiliates and three men at a campaign rally can move forward as it was

determined that Donald Trump most likely incited violence during a rally in Kentucky in 2016.

The lawsuit was brought by two women who were roughed up along with their teenage son for

protesting at this specific Donald Trump campaign rally to which Donald Trump said, "Get 'em

out of here.

Get 'em out of here."

The judge ruled that Donald Trump's statement of, "Get 'em out of here," was a command,

an order, a direct order to the people in that room.

It implied that they could use force if they felt like it, and that's exactly what happened.

One of the men named in the lawsuit, who was an attendee at the rally who helped remove

the protestors, admits that he shoved a young woman during this altercation.

Now, the judge says, yes, this suit needs to go forward.

It's very likely and very clear that Donald Trump did incite this violence at this rally.

But what's more disgusting is that Donald Trump said, "Get 'em out of here," and those

idiot supporters did it.

They saw nothing wrong with walking up to young women and a teenage boy and shoving

them, grabbing them, pulling them out of that arena.

That's the mentality of a Trump supporter.

It doesn't matter if you're a man, woman, or child, if they want to get you out, if

Donald Trump says go shove that person, go punch them, go drag them by their feet, they

will do it.

They have proven that.

That's what that judge understands.

Donald Trump is the kind of authoritarian leader that attracts weak and feeble minds,

and weak and feeble minds will always take orders from those that they believe are in

charge.

That's what happened all throughout human history really.

Any time a dictator comes to power, it's because they manipulate the weak and the feeble and

the scared, and that is what Donald Trump supporters are.

If you're willing to walk up to a young woman who's doing nothing but peacefully protesting

the political viewpoints of your chosen candidate and you thinks it's okay to shove her, to

get physically violent with her in any way, then, yeah, there's something wrong with you.

You don't lay your hands on her.

You don't lay your hands even if it's a guy.

Even if it's a seven-foot tall biker with biceps twice the size of my head, you don't

touch them.

But these Trump supporters don't see any difference.

Donald Trump knew that, and he knew exactly what he was doing when he said, "Go get 'em

out of here."

Hopefully, this lawsuit will show Donald Trump and his idiot supporters, that, yeah, words

and action do have consequences still in the United States.
