Yesterday the police identified the terrorist who blew himself up in the St. Petersburg subway.
It was a 21 year old Kyrgyzstan-born Akbarjon Jalilov.
He'd lived in Russia for the past 6 years, had a Russian citizenship,
and basically matured as an adult in St. Petersburg.
Up to a certain time, Jalilov was just like anybody else his age.
Then, apparently, he got into radical Islam.
The result was a terrorist attack on Tuesday, which as of now took the lives of 14 people.

For technical reasons the train will not be stopping at this station.
Just minutes before the explosion,
the surveillance camera shows a young man in a blue hat and a red jacket.
He doesn't stand out in the crowd of young people returning from school.
Glasses in a modern frame, a goatee, a backpack.
Apparently, the explosive device was hidden in this backpack.
Give me your hand. Your hand! Give me your hand!
Detectives of the Investigative Committee of Russia with Federal Security Services and MIA
determined that the explosive device was set off by a man,
whose body fragments were found in the 3rd car of the train.
His identity has been determined.
The suspect is Akbarjon Jalilov, who just turned 22 on April 1st.
This is his family's house in Osh suburbs.
The door is closed, his parents are being questioned by the National Safety Committee of Kyrgyzstan.
His family moved to Russia in 2011.
Later the parents went back home, and the son stayed in St. Petersburg.
He rarely visited his family.
They were friends with everybody, a very nice family, they didn't have issues with anybody.
Kids were well-raised.
We know the youngest son very well, he went to school here.
The oldest worked in Russia.
I saw him a couple of times, but he hardly ever visited.
Jalilov got his Russian citizenship. He spent 6 years in St. Petersburg.
He worked in a sushi-bar and an auto shop.
Then he disappeared, supposedly to Korea.
Judging from his photos, he was pretty social.
Here he's in a hookah bar, bowling, out with friends.
The last update was in September of 2015. Jalilov started growing a beard.
1,5 years later he'll blow himself up in a city,
whose beautiful sites he used for so many of his pictures.

The terrorist blows up a homemade bomb in the 3rd car,
in a tunnel between two of the busiest stations of the St. Petersburg subway,
Sennaya Square and Technological Institute, at 2.30 pm,
on the first day after the spring break.
The train is being operated by 1st category machinist, Aleksandr Kaverin.
He's worked in the subway for 15 years.
The blown up train keeps moving, scraping the tunnel walls with shuttered doors.
All according to the guidelines.
It took us about a minute to figure out what's happened.
At first, the 1st car passengers put us in a bit of confusion.
I was acting according to the guidelines, following the dispatcher instructions.
I had no time for fear at the moment. I had to do my job.
Thanks to the machinist, the evacuation is done not from the tunnel, but from the platform,
which saved a lot of lives.
Time is a deciding factor here - to live or to die.
Aleksandr Kaverin will be rewarded.
The station attendant, Nina Shmelyova, will also be rewarded.
She provided first aid to the injured.
Another reward will go to the inspector of the Vosstaniya Square, Albert Sibirskiy.
He discovered a second explosive device.
We regularly inspect passenger areas.
During a routine inspection, he noticed this object.
What kind of object was it?
It was a bag.
On the pictures they show a fire extinguisher, so it's a bag?
It was a bag with a fire extinguisher in it.
Though not yet officially confirmed, here is that device.

We have information, that the homemade bomb
was defused on the spot by a bomb technician from OMON riot police squad.
It's true, these are the exact wall tiles from the hall at the Vosstaniya Square station.
Usually home-made bombs like this one
are made from makeshift materials,
including ammonium nitrate and other components.
Injuries,
received from this type of device,
are usually deep.
The bomb at the Vosstaniya Square is found at the same time
the explosion occurs at the Sennaya Square.
Special services immediately blocked the phone towers, located in the area,
so that the terrorists couldn't activate the device with a phone call.
If it were to explode here, the tragedy would be even worse. This is the heart of the city.
There is Nevsky Prospekt, Moskovsky Railway Station.
The station is a junction and is very important.
Judging from the collected data, this is what happened.
Both home-made bombs are carried to the subway by Akbarjon Jalilov.
First, he leaves a bag at the Vosstaniya Square and then travels via a different subway line,
straight to Sennaya - Technological Institute.
The person, wearing Muslim clothes, whose photo was all over the media,
had nothing to do with the attack.
His identity has been determined. This is Andrey Nikitin.
He was arrested and questioned by the police. He is proven innocent.
The security systems of the St. Petersburg subway will be checked.
The employees' actions will be analyzed.
The city is in a 3-day mourning for the victims.
Only those who died in the hospitals were identified.
This procedure won't be fast, DNA analysis will be required.
