What's the film about?

The film is about a character named Ray, that I play. who specializes in simulated abductions.

If you want to be kidnaped for fun, or therapeutic reasons you hire him.

It's a screwball comedy like they made in 30's and 40's, & it's a film noir like they made in 40's & 50's.

Pat, you've been in literally a hundred movies and an actor. Why this film as your directorial debuted?

This kid Mike Makowski who I had worked with on a short film, gave me the script just to read.

I was immediately taken with it. I thought it was funny, I thought it was tense, I love the character.

I wanted to be in it and direct it.

Do you think being a director now has changed the way you approach acting roles?

I think I have always thought of myself as a director because I have been such a cinephile since I was a kid.

I aways knew how to act but I always thought that was my way into doing this.

Then I became a writer for a period of time, about a decade. I was still acting in these smaller movies

and then came a time to finally be able to do this and find the right material. I would probably not put myself

in the lead of a movie again because, it was really fun to shoot. But going into a room for three or four months

editing, and looking at yourself every day and judging yourself was really masochistic of me.

And if I thought I might have had more time I might have casted somebody else in the role.

I want to talk about Taylor Schilling because she's fantastic in this movie.

So I had mentioned that one of the qualities of this movie was a screwball comedy and she remindes me

very much of one of those actresses in particular Carol Lambert who was such a great actress a great dramatic

actress and a great comedian who can do all these things. And this is also a character who had to go from

funny, to scary, to angry, to sad, and sometimes in one take. And I immediately just thought that she was the

right person for that. There wasn't any other choice in my mind. It's such a rare quality to be a beautiful and

glamorous movie start to then also be a classically trained actress. I was very fortunate in that way.

The you have this sort of subtext of the actors in the movie also playing roles of people playing roles.

the interstitial space - the space between cells.

About 20% of the magnesium in the extracellular space, which would be about 0.2% of the total

magnesium, is bound to negatively charged proteins like albumin, but the other 80% or

0.8% of the total magnesium, can be filtered into the kidneys.

So in the kidney, that magnesium gets filtered into the nephron, andi about 30% gets reabsorbed

at the proximal convoluted tubule, 60% gets reabsorbed in the ascending loop of Henle,

and 5% get reabsorbed at the distal convoluted tubule.

That leaves only 5% to get excreted by the kidneys.

So, in order for there to be too much magnesium in the blood, this normal balance has to be

disturbed.

The most common reason is when those nephrons in the kidneys can't excrete magnesium properly

- which can happen in renal failure, when the kidneys typically aren't able to excrete

anything properly.

Another cause of hypermagnesemia is ingesting more magnesium then the kidneys can excrete.

Sometimes this can be due to an intravenous infusion of magnesium that isn't prepared

correctly.

Other times it can be due to a magnesium containing medication like magnesium hydroxide which

can be used to treat symptoms like constipation and heartburn.

If these medications are taken in excess over a long period of time, it can lead to hypermagnesemia.There

are some less common causes of hypermagnesemia.

One of these is tumor lysis syndrome which results from a rapid number of cancer cells

dying in unison releasing their contents - which includes magnesium.

Hypermagnesemia can cause some serious complications.

At the neuromuscular junction, there are voltage-gated calcium channels on presynaptic neurons which

need to open and let calcium in to cause the neuron to release neurotransmitter and cause

muscle contraction.

Under normal circumstances, magnesium seems to inhibit calcium influx a little bit, which

actually helps stabilize the axon.

But with too much magnesium floating around, it tends to inhibit calcium influx even more,

which interferes with neurotransmitter release and ultimately slows muscle contraction.

Also, normally the parathyroid hormone from the parathyroid gland usually stimulates calcium

release into the blood.

High levels of magnesium in the blood seems to inhibit release of parathyroid hormone

from the parathyroid gland, which causes calcium levels to fall, leading to hypocalcemia.

This affects smooth, skeletal, and cardiac muscle.

It can lead to vasodilation, muscular weakness, diminished reflexes, respiratory failure,

and even coma.

Really high levels of magnesium also alter the electrical potential across the cardiac

cell membrane, which can lead to cardiac arrhythmias like heart block and even asystole.

Anytime hypermagnesemia is causing symptoms, the level of free magnesium ions in the blood

is usually over 4 meq/L. Treatment depends on the cause, and if its due to excessive

intake, then interrupting the source cures the condition.

Because calcium and magnesium compete for binding, some of the symptoms of hypermagnesemia

can be countered by injecting calcium, usually in the form of calcium gluconate, which acts

as a physiological antagonist.

Sometimes furosemide can be used to promote kidney excretion of magnesium, and hemodialysis

can also be used in severe cases.

Alright, as a quick recap - Hypermagnesemia refers to an elevated free magnesium ion level

which usually causes symptoms once its over 4 meq/L. This can be caused by impaired excretion

by the kidneys or an increased intake of magnesium.

The magnesium antagonizes calcium and can lead to a neuromuscular blockade causing symptoms

like vasodilation, muscle weakness, and even cardiac arrhythmias.

traditional bulb my happiness bubble did

not deflate instantly as one would

expect

I knew ups was on his way and I had

finished prepping to install the new

energy-saving 8.5 watt LED bulbs

flipping the light switch they all lit

up in their wonderous warm glory

oh no I refer to the box to see it

clearly states warm white why this did

not register sooner my happiness was

asunder grabbing the phone I call

customer care at HSN these were shipped

directly from a vendor therefore the

weight falls upon the vendor I explain

what's happened ours UPS label is sent

via email and an exchange arranged 7

days later UPS is racing that huge brown

truck up the road with a big smile on

both parties the exchange was made I

received the replacements and he ran off

with the wrong item sent reaching for

the utility knife I split the packaging

tape and open the small brown box what

to my wondering eyes should appear but

the exact same item as handed off to the

UPS driver this is ridiculous and

negligent on the vendors part for boxes

for mistakes back to back is

unforgivable

back on the phone with HSN customer care

explaining the situation once more this

time I request a super

vizor courteous friendly and

professional as usual the saga continues

by end of call I'm told I'll be notified

about how the situation will be handled

approximately seven days later I receive

two first-class letter from HSN each

with a return shipping label I'm

expecting ups that morning so it's

merely a matter of attaching labels UPS

takes the parcels and they are in

transit I wait until Wednesday to call

HSN to investigate see how everything is

going

turns out the vendor hasn't responded to

the supervisors contact all in all I'll

get my money's back but we'll have to

reorder if I want the LED bulbs that is

unlikely to happen after about a month

of watching them be shipped around I'm

tempted to build a vendor for my

inconvenience and lost time

I'm sure HSN will drop the vendor if not

they should this would have been an

unboxing video had I received what was

ordered I cannot speak to the quality of

lighting science LED bulbs as they seem

to be vacationing what I can share is

the bulbs received were packaged nicely

the bulbs had a good weight a bit

heavier than a traditional 6-0 W bulb

and the ones I installed temporarily lit

up instantly when flipping the switch

they produced a bright yellowish light

which is expected at three zero zero

zero K they are supposed to last

approximately thirteen point seven years

when used three hours per day and

sported a five-year warranty however

given the continual mix-up I must wonder

how lighting science would handle their

warranty when claimed

Study Says Buying A Congress Member's Vote Is Cheaper Than You Think - Duration: 4:32.

According to a new report published in the International Business Times, it's actually

not that expensive, if you have the money, to buy the loyalty of a member of Congress.

Specifically, it's not that expensive to buy the loyalty of a member of Congress if that

person happens to be a Democrat.

One of the case examples that they use in this report is the dismantling of Dodd-Frank

legislation, and they found that for every $100,000 given to a Democrat, the chances

that they would vote in favor of dismantling Dodd-Frank rose by 13.9%.

$100,000, you're almost 14% more likely to kill this legislation.

That's really not a lot of money when you're talking about corporations who benefit from

this — Wells Fargo, Bank of America, UBS — who pull in tens of billions of dollars

every single year.

So maybe they have to spend two, three hundred thousand for a few different congresspeople

to get them to change their vote and gut a piece of regulation that prevents these big

banks from committing crimes, or makes the punishments a little bit harsher.

But what this report really does is tells us exactly how corrupting money has become

in our legislative process.

$100,000 for a 14% increase in likelihood that you're going to vote in favor of the

corporation rather than in favor of the people.

There aren't a whole lot of citizens in the United States that can afford to give lots

of members of Congress a couple thousand dollars apiece, but there's plenty of corporations.

And that's what's so scary about this.

Yeah, there are liberal organizations that raise money and work on campaign funding,

lobbying, and things of that nature, but that money will never be enough to compete with

even one fossil fuel company, or even one big bank.

You could take all of the grassroots money in this country, combine it, and you'll never

get as much money for lobbying or direct campaign donations as you would from a single pharmaceutical

company, or a single big bank, or a fossil fuel company.

We are up against such tremendous odds in this country, and it's all because of the

conservative Supreme Court.

That Citizens United ruling, it did damage to democracy, but most importantly, it did

damage to the Democratic Party.

If you look back at the timeline of the top donors to the Democratic Party before Citizens

United, it was trial lawyers and unions.

You know, groups that literally exist to protect American workers.

As soon as that Citizens United ruling hit, guess who took over as the top donor?

Securities firms and Wall Street banks.

And how has their voting habits changed since then?

Well, we've seen it.

We've seen Dodd-Frank dismantled and watered down by Wall Street lobbyists who were walking

the halls of Congress, working on that.

We have seen them protect the big banks; we've seen them bail out the big banks instead of

American taxpayers.

We've seen the Justice Department slap very small fines on these banks that engage in

criminal behavior, and they don't put a single person behind bars.

And the Democratic Party's to thank for that, because the Republicans have always been corrupt,

we've known that, but it wasn't until Citizens United came along that we really got to see

the corruption within the Democratic Party.

And this new report, published in International Business Times, really kind of nails it home

for us.

$100,000, and suddenly, a Democrat is willing to vote in favor of a corporation instead

of a regular human being.

HOW TO MAKE A HEADBOARD | PINTEREST DIY - Duration: 3:11.

hey guys it's KristIn so in today's

video I'm going to show you how to make

this really beautiful rustic headboard

it was very easy to make and it really

doesn't cost a whole lot for this

project you will need 13 1 by 4 pieces

of wood that are 6 feet long 12 2 inch

wood screws 121 and a quarter finishing

nails 1/4 stain a color of your choice

to clean rags and then a hammer or a

nail gun to start this project cut 10

pieces of the 1 by 4 to your desired

width as I mentioned ours is a

queen-size bed so I'll be cutting these

as 64 inches once you have all of your

pieces cut begin staining all 13 1 by

fours with your desired color of stain

we have chosen to use classic grey you

will most likely need to apply 2 to 3

coats of stain before you're able to

assemble it lie the three longer 1 by 4

flat on the ground now take one of the

shorter one by fours and place it

horizontally across the three pieces

that you laid on the ground the end

should line up flush like you can see

here Matt is using a nail gun obviously

if you don't have that you can just use

a normal hammer and some finishing nails

you will want it to cure this with two

to four nails before securing the second

piece use something as a spacer so

either wood or some newspaper but you

want to have a little tiny space in

between the pieces make sure not to

press the second piece of wood too

tightly up against your spacer or else

you will not be able to get it out you

will need to use 2 to 4 finishing nails

per 1 by 4 so you have a total of 3 1 by

fours that need to be attached to your

headboard pieces this will ensure that

it is attached securely

once you have all 10 headboard pieces

attached to your 1 by fours you can then

bring it in to your house so that you

can secure it to your bed frames you

will want to use 12 wood screws and this

will be 4 screws per piece so we have

three 1 by fours that need to be

attached to the headboard you will place

two of the wood screws at the top and

two wood screws at the bottom of each of

the 1 by 4

once you have everything screwed down

and attached to your bed frame you are

done this can really add a lot of

character and beauty to a normal bed

frame you can also customize this so if

you don't like having a little gap then

you would just not use spacers you can

also make this headboard a little

shorter or even taller possibly going

right up to the ceiling so the options

are really endless alright guys so

SI Joint Pain: How I Got Better FAST! - Duration: 1:50.

Hey everyone! AJ here with Stronglife Physiotherapy.

I want to tell you about a little episode of SI joint pain that I had just last week and how I got fast relief.

I'm not sure how it started, it may have been from bending over a lot while doing some work around the house.

It didn't hurt right away, but I first noticed it the next day when I sat down to do some documentation at work.

When I leaned forward I had a pretty intense pain in my left SI joint area that quickly became worse

After a few more minutes it didn't calm down and if anything it was getting worse

So I immediately started the SI joint correction techniques

I ran through all of them 3 or 4 times pushing almost as hard as I could each time

I felt a little pop or shift in the SI joint area but it was very subtle

Honestly I was hoping for a more dramatic pop or shift but it didn't happen.

That's OK, because within 20-30 minutes my pain was reduced 30 to 40 percent

I still had some pain but it felt better

Still a little stiff and tight though

Within 1 to 2 hours the pain was reduced 80 to 90 percent

And the next day I didn't even notice the pain at all!

Now I'm able to bend over, lift up my kids, I even went to the gym and lifted.

And ran a couple miles yesterday and had no problems

The key was I started as soon as the pain began and I hit it hard several times with the corrective techniques

How a Character LCD Works - Part 2 - Duration: 13:30.

Hello, and welcome to Episode 2 on how Character LCDs work.

So, in the last episode I showed you how you can control these screens using nothing but

toggle switches, and if you haven't seen that, I suggest you go back and watch that

one first.

So, in this episode I'm going to try to show how to connect one of these to a computer.

And the computer that I'm going to use is the Commodore 64.

So, you might ask why a Commodore and not an Atari or an Apple II, or something like

that.

Well, all of the Commodores have something called a user port and It goes as far back

as the Commodore PET.

The VIC-20 has one, the 64 has one, so does the Plus/4 and the 128.

The only Commodore machine that really lacks a user port is the Commodore 16, which is

fairly rare.

So, I have no idea why Commodore called this the user port.

But what it really is, its a parallel port and a serial port all combined into one connector.

However, for this particular project, we're only interested in the parallel aspect of

the user port.

If you take a look inside the Commodore 64, you'll see it has two 6526 chips.

These are input/output chips and they actually do quite a few things, but what we're interested

in are the 16 lines of general purpose input/output that these chips have.

There are 32 lines in total between the two chips.

These are pretty similar to the general I/O lines you might have on a Raspberry Pi or

a micro controller.

However, most of these lines are in use by the computer for things like the keyboard,

joystick ports, disk drive ports, etc.

What we're interested in are the 8 lines of port B. These go straight to the user port

and are not used for anything, other than whatever we want to use them for.

Now, the thing is, 8 lines are not enough to drive an LCD like this because we would

need two more lines for the enable pin and the register select.

However, we can easily solve that problem by operating the screen in 4 bit mode instead

of 8 bit mode.

And here's how that works.

Let's say we wanted to send the number 42 to the screen, since that is the meaning of

life, the universe, and everything.

Well, we would send this 8-bit binary number to represent that.

And it would be assigned to the 8 data pins just like I showed in the last video.

But, if we set the screen to 4-bit mode, we would just use the last 4 pins on the screen

like this.

And we'd send the first 4 bits, then the next 4 bits.

In this mode the screen will always be expecting two burst of data for every command or character

sent to the screen.

So, back to our user-port diagram, we will only need 6 pins to control the screen instead

of 8.

Of course, we'll use the ground and +5v to power the screen.

Then we'll use these last for lines for the data bits.

PB3 can operate the register select.

Then PB2 can operate the enable line.

So, once we hook the LCD up to the user port, how do we control it?

Well, the 6525 chip occupies a few bytes in the C64's memory map.

There are only two memory locations that are relevant to us.

The first is 56579.

This location sets the direction for all 8 lines on the user port.

Because it is an 8-bit register, each bit represents one of the 8 data lines.

So, If you set them one of them to a zero then that line becomes an input line so that

we can read the state of that line.

If you set it to a one, then it becomes an output line that you can control.

For our purposes we need it to be an output line.

In fact, just to make things easy, we can set them all to be output lines by storing

the value 255 in this memory location.

The other memory location we need to worry about is 56577.

This is where actual reading and writing happens.

Since everything is set to output mode, we can actually write an 8-bit value to this

register, and each bit represents the state of each pin.

Let me demonstrate this for you.

So I've got this edge connector that fits the C64 user port.

I like to print out little labels and attach them to the sides so that there is no question

as to which pins I'm connecting things to.

I also like to run a spare piece of wire through these holes on the side so that I have some

way to pull the connector back out of the machine when I'm done with it.

Now I'm going to temporarily attach an alligator clip to the ground and another one to PB0.

Now I'm going to carefully stick this in the back of my Commodore 64.

Next I'm going to turn on the C64 and type POKE 56579,255 which will turn all of the

user port pins to output mode.

Now if we look at the voltmeter you'll see it's reading .068 volts, which means the

pin is being held low.

Now I'm going to type POKE 56577,1, which should set that particular pin to a high state.

And you'll see the voltage on that pin jumped up to almost 5 volts now, so that is the high

state.

OK, so now that we know that works, I'll use that pull wire I put in there to yank

this out.

Next I'm going to wire up one of my LCD screens to the user port.

So I'll get to soldering.

And here we go, a finished product.

So I wrote this little test program in BASIC that will send some simple commands to the

LCD, and allow you to type on the screen.

So the first thing I'll do is press 5 to set the interface length to 4-bit mode.

Then I'll press 4 to send the command to enable the display.

However, this is a multi-part command, so my program will also ask if you want the display

on then if you want the cursor on, and if you want the cursor to blink.

So I said yes to all 3.

Unfortunately, it didn't work.

So, I played around with this screen for hours trying to figure out, you know, did I connect

something wrong?

You know, what did I do wrong?

You know, things don't always go to plan.

I actually pulled this screen out of an old piece of equipment a long time ago, and to

be honest, I've never even seen this screen work before.

So, for all I know, there's something wrong with it.

So, I decided to pull the screen out of my last contraption with the toggle switches

and wire that up the exact same way.

However, I knew something was wrong the moment I turned on the power to the C64.

The screen displayed garbage like this.

Oddly enough, when I ran my program it actually did initialize the screen and I was able to

type out some characters, even though it was clear the screen was behaving oddly.

Unfortunately, even when I connected this screen back to regular power away from the

C64, it still now displays that garbage on the screen permanently.

So, I spent the next entire day going over every connection and every detail, checking

everything with a voltmeter, checking for continuity, seeing if I could have possibly

wired something up wrong.

I simply couldn't find anything that I did wrong..

In fact, the really frustrating part about this is that I've done this experiment before

about 10 years ago and it worked fine.

So, I know it will work.

But, the only thing I really did different back then was I did power the screen externally.

And the reason I did that back then was because I was using a backlit screen and I didn't

think the user port on the Commodore 64 could supply enough miliamps to run both the screen

and the backlight.

So I had one more screen handy, and I decided to wire it up so that it gets its 5 volts

of power from this USB charger instead of the C64.

I also wired up the backlight.

Now, just for a comparison, I decided to fire it up here on the bench with just the power

and nothing else.

And it appears to work as expected.

This is exactly what it should look like with power only.

And the contrast control is working.

So, time to test it.

I unplugged my little SD card reader for the time being, since I didn't have that 10

years ago when I did this experiment.

Then I'll plug in the screen.

So, the first thing I want to do is just try powering the screen on again before I even

turn the C64 on.

And already something appears wrong.

I can't see the two lines on the screen and the contrast control isn't working.

But it didn't take long before I noticed that the main ground wire had come loose.

So I needed to go resolder that.

OK, so this is getting more and more tense… this is my last screen.

If I fry this one, I'll have to wait a week while I order some new ones online.

However, things went even further south.

Now, for some reason, my C64 is dead.

I mean, totally dead.

So, things were not looking good.

I mean, I couldn't figure out how I could have fried my C64.

Nothing I did should have been able to cause that.

The only wires connected to the C64 are these here.

And the sheer fact that I was able to send characters to the last screen confirms that

these are all hooked to the right place because if any one of them were not, it wouldn't

have worked.

And I couldn't see how any of these connections could damage a screen or a C64.

So I took the C64 apart and started troubleshooting.

And I found the answer.

I didn't catch this on video, but when I checked the voltage on the motherboard, it

found that it was reading 8 and half volts.

It's supposed to be 5!

And, so as soon as I saw that, I shut the computer off and didn't turn it back on

because I didn't want to risk further damaging any of the chips.

Hence, why I didn't catch it on video.

However, I measured the voltage on the 5 volt line of the power supply and look what I got.

Dang!

11 and a half volts!

So this is unfortunately a very common failure, if not the MOST common failure of all Commodore

64 problems.

The power supply will start sending too much voltage when it goes bad and thus frying the

rest of the computer along with it.

And I never actually checked the power output coming out of the user port, but obviously

it was way more than 5 volts and that was what was frying my screens.

So this solves yet another mystery!

A few weeks ago I started work on an episode about speech synthesizer cartridges. and during

filming the episode, my cartridge just died.

It quite working completely and I couldn't figure out why.

So, I had to put that video on hold while I tried to find another working speech synthesizer

cartridge.

And, so I started the LCD video earlier than expected.

So that's why I had to run to Fry's to buy those parts rather than ordering them

online, which would have been much cheaper.

Well, now I know what killed my speech synthesizer cartridge, and apparently this whole thing

is just a big coincidence and didn't have anything to do with the experiment I was working

on.

On the bright side, since I was powering the 3rd screen externally, hopefully it survived

the encounter.

So Brought out my Commodore 64c.

I'm fairly confident at this point that I didn't do anything wrong, so even though

I'm nervous, I'm going to proceed with the experiment using this computer.

Of course, I got a different power supply and confirmed it was outputting the correct

voltage before plugging it.

OK, so the screen is powered on and looks normal.

And it is connected to my C64c.

I'm going to power on the 64c and so far everything looks good.

So, now I'm going to initialize the screen, and it looks like that worked.

Now I'll adjust the contrast.

So now I'll try the little clock program that I wrote.

Of course, I wrote all of this in BASIC so it is kind of slow, but you can see that it

does work.

By the way, in theory it should be possible to connect up to 3 screens to the user port.

The way you would do that is all three screens would share the exact same 4 data lines.

They would also share the register select.

However, PB2 enable would go to one screen, and then you would use PB1 fo the next screen,

and then PB0 for the third screen.

That way each screen has its own enable line.

So, every screen will completely ignore whatever is on the data bus until it's very specific

enable line is raised high.

I should also mention that you can connect a character LCD like this to an older style

MS-DOS computer if it has a parallel port.

The concept is almost identical to what I've just shown you using the parallel port on

the Commodore 64.

However, the PC doesn't really have any easy way for you to go control the registers

and stuff of the parallel port like the Commodore 64 does.

In fact, that's one of the things I love about working with the old 8-bit computers

like these is that you have so much control over the hardware and you can just boot it

right up to BASIC and just type a few commands and just turn pins high and low and stuff

like that, it's just really convenient.

OK, so I had also planned in this episode to show you not just connecting it to the

user port, but also connecting a screen to the cartridge port of the Commodore 64.

Unfortunately, with all of the delays and problems I had earlier in the episode, I decided

that is going to be split off into a part 3.

But, I think its really important that you see a character LCD plugged into the cartridge

port and there's good reason why, which you'll understand when you see.

So, stick around for that.
