Waching daily Feb 12 2018

Greetings Earthlings!

Welcome to the MadqueenShow!

I am your host the MadQueen

On today's menu, we have a more or less

wishlist video that was requested by Younes Serhane on Twitter, I still won't forgive

you for saying that my lore videos are boring!

I'm going to make TONES of them anyway, that's obvious, but wishlist videos doesn't

hurt and I have tons of things that I'd love to see in Cyberpunk 2077

We can all agree that The Witcher 3 is a great game, and if you don't agree I don't know what you are doing

watching this video in the first place

it has a lot of amazing game mechanics

and I'm sure that lots of them are going to be included in Cyberpunk 2077, but there

are some that are not that fantastic, I'm not even sure if they're bugs, if they didn't

think of them or what happened but, really.

Just please don't

Let's go with the list

#10 Interrupting quests

Well, I know that this is pretty standard

in all open world games, but being a standard doesn't make it less annoying

So, you have this incredibly huge list of secondary quests that you try to complete,

because you open quests faster than you can complete them, and you are in this quest looking

for Witcher gear to put an example, and then while you're going there, you find someone,

start talking with him and

What happened?

You just completed a quest you didn't even remember you had open

And as you spent so may time killing beasts and picking flowers you don't even remember

what you were doing in the first place and this is a problem, because when you complete

a quest, then the game selects as default the main quest instead of the one that you

were doing before you get interrupted

What was I doing?

I don't remember!

You had to go to some place call Lebiodá or something like that to pick some Witcher gear

It's Lebioda, not Lebiodá

Muggle

#9 Non-existent potion ingredients.

I'm quite positive that the alchemy game mechanics is something that we're going

to see implemented in Cyberpunk, obviously not related to alchemy, but there are many

other things in the cyberpunk universe that we can build with parts, and this would be

a great game mechanic if it wasn't for

The fucking Cocktrice stomach

I googled it

Looked for the fucking beast

It doesn't respawn

Yep, there's no way to upgrade the Superior Draconic Oil because the fucker doesn't respawn

So, please, make sure that we will find all the ingredients or pieces

Even if they're hard to find

#8 Map levels

According to the lore of Cyberpunk 3rd edition,

the map of Night City is going to have different levels: upper, middle and underground, and

I'm a little worried about the underground map if the example is the Witcher 3

So, when you're in the general surface map, you can see the whole map, where you are and

everything around you, but then you get into a cave and you can only see the minimap layout

and that's what happens

Where's the exit?

The fucking cave looks the same no matter the direction I look at…

This is the end

I'm trapped here

Tell Triss I always loved her

And, no, saying that this map thing is to avoid making things easy it's not a good

answer because Geralt is supposed to have a better memory than I do

Because if it wasn't the case, he would be really fucked

#7 Combat system

Well, I'm not going to enter in detail into

that because there's a lot of passionate ideas about it, and I was quite happy with

the sword part, except when Geralt starts to throw blows in random directions and you

can't control him, but please, If I throw a bomb in Oxenfurt I don't want it to land

into some Skellige island

And you know what I mean.

#6 The Loot Loop

Raise your hand if you ever tried to loot

a box and, instead, you ended up lighting every single fucking candle of Novigrad

So, loot

No, I want to loot

Fuck the candle, please pick the loot

Sometimes I wonder if CDPR just did this to have a meme

#5 Parking Roach

Well, Roach, what a fantastic character of the game, I suppose that in Cyberpunk 2077

instead of Roach we will have a flying car, but let's hope that, well

this car doesn't behave like Roach

Are you comfortable, honey?

Can you please get out of there

#4 Tiny font size

Before we talk about that, please allow me to introduce you the size of my television

Ok, THERE is where I play games

I just show you for you to have a little context

And even playing in such a monster you can't believe the struggles I have to read the tiny

font size, that you have on top of creatures and that is supposed to be a guide to look

for them in the bestiary to find some hints to beat them

What?

Oh, for the love of God, I need a telescope, not glasses!

#3 Inventory management

Once you're advanced in the Witcher 3 one

of the first things that you notice is that you end up with tones of shit in your inventory: potions,

oils, diagrams to craft things… and at one point, finding them inside your inventory

is a quest by itself

Ok I need Draconid oil

Nope.

Nope.

Nope.

Nope.

Nope.

Nope.

Nope.

Nope.

Nope.

Nope.

Nope…

Ok, the last one.

In one hand is absolutely fantastic that you have tons of options, the problem here is the order

You can't order them alphabetically for instance, or other options for other items

that make it easier for you to find things without needing to learn the exact color of

each oil or the shape of each potion, but even that is doable, it's even worst when

you want to craft an armor and you have to surf amongst tones of diagrams, because you

loot like crazy and you have an insane amount of everything, and you have tones of items

that are 20 levels below you without an option to sort them properly, why would you like

to see gear that is 20 levels below you if it's not Witcher gear?

It'sIt would be great if you had an option to see only Witcher gear or you could hide

the gear that is lower level than you

Well, that applied to whatever you're going to be able to craft on Cyberpunk 2077

#2 Skill Tree

This is probably the thing that I like the

least of the whole game

There are 20 different skills in each of the 4 categories, except in other that you have

10, which makes a total of 70 different skills that you can have, and you can level them

up by acquiring skill points, up to here, everything normal

The thing is that you don't have all these skills working all the time, you have only

12 slots of skills, although you start with, I believe, 3 slots, with means that you can

only have 12 skills working at the same time maximum

So, the only way that you can really take advantage of all your skills is by putting

them in the working skills slots, and change them depending on the combat or action you're

about to perform.

Ok, so that's an Alps

so

equipping the moon dust bomb, applying the Vampire oil, drinking Black blood potion

and it's mostvulnerable to Yrden, so let's see if I have a skill for that

Nope

Nope

that's interesting

Weren't you going to fight an Alp

Fight?

What fight?

Yes, it takes AGES to enter into combat

#1 Impossible Heights

Misjudging the height of a jump is the most

common death cause in the Witcher 3, gravity killed more people than any beast in the game

But that is insane

I mean, Geralt is supposed to be strong, there are some heights he should be able to jump

them with no problem at all

Well, this seems to be an easy enough jump

Let's see, jump here…

Are you fucking kidding me?

Oh, this is fucking ridiculous!

Obviously, in Cyberpunk 2077 you are going to have cyber implants to avoid that

I hope

Otherwise, I'm really fucked

And this is the list of the game mechanics on The Witcher 3 that I DON'T want to see

implemented in Cyberpunk 2077, at least, not the way they are

Well, folks, thanks for watching, don't forget to leave a comment and let me know

what other videos you'd like to see, and you don't need to request lore videos because

you can be sure that I'm doing them anyway

See you in next videos and stay being amazing!

Destiny 2 Lore Sekris, Shadow of Calus - Duration: 10:05.

Sekris's skill with cybernetics and Servitor mechanics allowed him a far greater lifespan

than most of his kind.

One of the reasons I picked him to Shadow me, and his peers were left to languish.

Welcome back guardians.

Today we are continuing with the Shadow of Calus series, for those who are new to the

series, every episode will be in the Shadow of Calus playlist on my youtube home page.

In general, the shadows of Calus are different species that Calus recruited once he was exiled

upon the Leviathan.

The Shadows of Calus formed an assassination squad to take out Ghaul and anyone else who

assisted Ghaul in his military uprising.

The stories of the Shadows are told in each raid armor set and today we are looking at

the gear from the Eater of Worlds Raid lair, specifically the Warlock set, which features

the story of Sekris, Baron of Shanks.

As usual, the artwork provided at the beginning of this video was completed by Gammatrap and

paid for with your generous donations on Patreon.

A link is below if you are interested.

This is myelin games and I hope you enjoy this latest Destiny 2 lore episode.

[INTRO] As usual, lets start with the appearance of

the Shadows of Calus.

Interestingly, the normal raid gear that featured, Jarus, the Fulminator and Rull, were all different

species that we had never seen before and consequently had to guess their appearance.

However, the Eater of World raid armor that features three new Shadows of Calus are all

species we have seen before.

Sekris is a Fallen Baron, Feltroc is a Psion and Nohr is a Cabal Valus.

In addition, the normal raid gear followed the same formula for each Shadow of Calus,

essentially, Calus would destroy their entire army or threaten to destroy their entire species,

then recruit their best warrior, who would go on to assassinate a Cabal leader and finally

confront Ghaul.

The Shadows of Calus in the Eater of worlds armor do not follow this story formula.

The Story of Sekris starts with the Mask of Sekris.

The lore tab for the mask of Sekris describes how Sekris inspired mercenaries such as Taniks

the Scarred.

Remember that Taniks was a mercenary Fallen who was known for killing the Hunter Vanguard

and Cayde's good friend, Andral Brask.

In addition, Taniks and Variks are the only Fallen we know of, who have mechanical arms.

This is has significance in Fallen Culture, because the Fallen can be demoted by docking

the lower arms, i.e. you go from a captain or baron with Four arms, to a dreg with only

two arms.

The creation of mechanical arms rejects that portion of Fallen Culture and hierarchy, hence

why Taniks acts as a mercenary rather than reporting to a Kell, and why Variks has rejected

the Fallen and is working with Reef.

Why am I saying all of this, well, it turns out that Sekris is also very skilled with

cybernetics.

This is reinforced in the Boots of Sekris.

The lore tab reads, Sekris's skill with cybernetics and Servitor

mechanics allowed him a far greater lifespan than most of his kind.

One of the reasons I picked him to Shadow me, and his peers were left to languish.

So it also appears that Sekris has modified his body with Cybernetics, and whilst it doesn't

confirm if he has mechanical arms, I suspect that Sekris joins the list of the few fallen

with mechanical arms.

If this is true it may be that Sekris was the one to inspire Taniks to modify his arms.

The other really interesting thing about Sekris, is because he understood cybernetics so well,

it appears that he actually worked out that he was meeting the robot Calus not the real

Calus.

Have a listen to the Robes of Sekris which reads,

In later days, my disguise could no longer fool him as it fooled others.

His skill in designing and modifying mechanized lifeforms was unparalleled and he made it

clear he knew I was not what I appeared to be.

I made it clear that, either way, he would continue to serve.

But I think he guessed that my form and my strength are inextricably linked.

I interpret this paragraph as Sekris recognizing that the Calus he was corresponding with,

was the robot Calus, not the real Calus.

This also makes us question whether any of the shadows, or if anyone has actually met

the real Calus since his exile.

The previous shadows may have only met the robot Calus, as Calus says he fooled the others.

Unfortunately, the raid gear does not feature Sekris's recruitment into the Shadows of

Calus, like we say with Jarus, Rull and the Fulminator, however Calus does mention the

promises he made to Sekris.

The Robes of Sekris reads, I promised Sekris a greater power than the

favor of your Traveler.

He died at Ghaul's hands still wondering what that could possibly be.

And The Baron of Shanks could even recall a time

when the Traveler had blessed his people.

He rarely spoke of it, even to me, and I didn't press him.

When one knows what Calus knows, Traveler-lore is meaningless.

But I mention it only to say that he despised your kind with a particular ferocity that

most of his people could not muster.

This is really cool because the lore tabs describe how Sekris was present when the Fallen

were aligned with the Traveler.

For those of you who do not know, the Fallen had their own Golden Age with the Traveler,

however eventually the Traveler left them, and ever since the Fallen have been trying

to reclaim the traveler and the power it holds.

So, the fact that Sekris was there when they were aligned with the Traveler, means he has

seen the pinnacle of the Fallen and is keen to get it back, consequently, Calus promises

him more power than the Traveler can deliver and is how he convinces Sekris to join the

Shadows.

This is further reinforced by the Flavor text of the Bond OF sekris which reads,

"I never forgot what I saw—the gift the Great Machine could bestow.

And Calus promised me more."

—Sekris, Baron of Shanks And it is reinforced by the Bond of Sekris

lore tab which reads, Sekris was so like you.

Barring the Light, of course.

The absence of the Traveler in his people's lives has marked them like a scar, and they

cannot forget it.

His people—they envy you a great deal.

When I think of him, and the hate he had for your homeworld and the benefits the Traveler

bestowed upon it, I am reminded of the passion you have for its defense.

Be like Sekris.

Don't share his weakness, his questioning of my authority and right of way.

But consider taking up his mantle.

Give the Fallen something else to be jealous of.

Seek me out and grow fat from strength.

As you can see Calus reinforces the Fallen's jealously of Guardians and the Traveler, and

the motivation to join the Shadows was an effort to gain more power, as the Fallen had

obviously continued to fail and securing the Traveler.

Further more, Calus describes Sekris as his most desperate Shadow.

The Wraps of Sekris reads, Desperate.

My lovely Baron of Shanks was the most desperate Shadow I ever recruited.

He questioned every order I gave, to the point that Valus Nohr required my personal appeasement

to prevent the severing of his head.

This is very consistent with the Lore of the Fallen, the Fallen were a very noble race

that did have their own golden age, but an event known as the whirlwind destroyed everything

they new, the Fallen houses fell to in-fighting and the Fallen become nothing more than scavengers

clawing at the Traveler.

So, had does Sekris's story end, well, I believe he was with the other Shadows of Calus

as they tried to assisinate Ghaul and failed.

It is not very clear, however we do know that Jarus piloted a ship carrying the Shadows

to assinate Ghaul and we know that the Fulminator failed, so it is also possible that Sekris

was also involved in this failed assisination attempt.

This is reinforced in the Robes of Sekris lore tab, which reads,

I promised Sekris a greater power than the favor of your Traveler.

He died at Ghaul's hands still wondering what that could possibly be.

And that is the story of Sekris, the Baron of Shanks, one of the few fallen to have been

alive during the Fallen's golden age, he led advancements in cybernetics and inspired

mercenaries such as Taniks, he was one of the few to see through Calus's disguise

and recognize that he was consulting with the Robot Calus and lastly, like the other

Shadows, he died to Ghaul.

That concludes this latest Destiny 2 lore episode, if you would like to support the

channel leave the word, Desperate, to symolise Sekris being the most Desperate shadow of

callus.

As usual, it has been a pleasure.

This is myelin games.

Peace.

Demystifying American Taxes - Duration: 15:52.

It's tax season here in America, which means it's time for everyone to procrastinate

and complain about how complicated they are.

They're really not that complicated.

But there are people out there with a vested interest in making you think they are.

Whether it's a politician who wants to use simplifying the tax code as a campaign slogan

or a company who wants you to sell you their services in doing them for you.

If you have a basic understanding of high school algebra, you already know more than

you need in order to understand taxes.

We do make them needlessly complicated here in America – so for any of you international

viewers, feel free to compare your system to ours – but still, they're not that

complicated.

Let's start with your paycheck.

Feel free to tell me how much you make down below and we can get started….

Okay since you're apparently not going to participate we're going to have to make

up an example.

Let's start with this guy.

Raynor here.

He's single and makes $30,000 a year.

That's about twice minimum wage.

Okay so I rounded down to make the numbers easier to work with, sue me.

Please don't sue me.

Anyway it's pretty close to the average individual income here in America.

He gets paid bi-weekly, which comes out to $1250 every two weeks.

Right on.

But as you probably all know, that's not what he ends up with.

In Australia, when you get hired and they tell you "you make 30,000 a year," that's

how much you make, that's your take-home pay, they figure in how much taxes get taken

out and don't even tell you about it.

How awesome would that be instead of it being a mystery up until your first paycheck?!

Anyway, let's break down what happens to that paycheck.

First, 6.2% comes out for Social Security.

For those of you not in the United States, this is the mandatory socialized retirement

program that everyone pays into and you only reap the full benefit of when you turn 67.

That comes out to $77.50.

Next, 1.45% gets taken out for Medicare.

For those of you not in the United States, this is the mandatory socialized healthcare

program that everyone pays into and you only reap the full benefit of when you turn 65.

Apparently, only old people get socialism here in America…

That comes out to be $18.13.

These two together are called FICA – and the government just takes it and you never

see it again.

Well unless you become old enough, I guess.

The next bit to come out of your paycheck is income tax, the part that most people do

incorrectly.

We're going to ignore state income tax and just focus on federal, because…

I don't want to make 43 different versions of this video.

The part of your paycheck that goes towards federal income tax is called the federal income

tax withholding.

You pay a small portion of each paycheck is withheld, and at the end of the year when

you "do your taxes" you figure out whether you owe more or more commonly get a refund.

So how are people messing this up?

Because how much goes towards your withholding is based on your income, your filing status,

and how many allowances you claim.

This is called a W-4, you filled it out when you started your job.

Most people don't even read it and just put 0 – and this is the worst possible answer.

This form is asking how many people this income is meant to support - putting zero means nobody.

So the government will take the maximum possible amount.

People like to claim zero because it gives them a bigger refund.

You're not getting a refund because of a defective product or shoddy service, it's

because you overpaid.

But we'll get to that in a moment.

This guy claims zero, so combining that with his income and crippling loneliness, the government

takes 12.5%, which comes out to be $156.35.

That number is figured out by your employer using a really complicated set of tables that

takes all three of those identifiers into account.

I wish I could tell you some sort of concrete number, but it changes for literally everyone.

So let's look at someone who works at the exact same job, for the exact same pay, but

actually read his W-4.

Ad victoriam Enter 1 for yourself if no one else can claim

you as a dependent.

Enter 1 if you're single and only have one job.

Or if you're married or have a second job, okay that doesn't apply.

Spouse, nope, dependents, nope, head of, child… blah blah blah, whatever.

2.

He claims two.

So he gets the same $1250 paycheck, $77.50 out for Social Security, $18.13 out for Medicare,

but his withholding is different, $132.98, only 10.6%.

That's a difference of $23.37 per paycheck.

That may not seem like a lot, but come Christmas, that's $607.62 more in his pocket.

The key here is that since they both make the same amount and they both have the same

depressing life circumstances, they both owe the same amount at the end of the year.

But, we'll get to how we figure that out in a moment.

For now, just take my word for it that this guy gets a $1591.35 refund at the end of the

year, and this guy gets a $984.23 refund.

This is usually the point where the guy who claimed zero celebrates his gift from the

government and laughs at the guy who claimed two for doing his taxes wrong.

But did he?

He already has slightly over $600 in the bank, so it actually evens out.

That guy just has a more accurate withholding which lets him keep more of his own money

each paycheck.

So, read your W-4, don't just write zero.

If you already work somewhere, ask for a new W-4.

Say this was a cell phone bill and you owed $60 a month, but you decide to play it safe

and pay $70 a month, so you get a $120 refund at the end of the year.

You would seriously reconsider how much you're paying every month… at least I hope you

would.

It's only with taxes and the government that we seem to be comfortable with overpaying.

Keep in mind that the guy who claimed 2 is still overpaying, he's just not overpaying

as much, he's holding onto his own money.

Your refund is not a gift from the government, you're not sticking it to anyone by getting

a refund, you're getting it because you're overpaying.

No, you can't tell your employer to take out nothing for income tax, despite what any

Sovereign Citizen might tell you.

The government totally has the power to tax personal income.

There's also a number of youtube videos that tell you how to get out of paying taxes

by claiming 9 or 10.

Unless you're John and Kate plus Eight, don't do that.

You can actually claim more than nine or ten but at that point you're just being a pain

to your employer, not the government.

It's a logarithmic function, you'll get it infinitely close to zero, but you'll

never actually get to zero.

If you don't pay your income taxes, they will eventually send someone with a gun to

your house.

And most likely, you're going to get everything you paid in taxes back anyway, so it's just

not worth it – pay your taxes.

Let's figure out how much this guy owes.

Anyway, here is where we're going to dispel a few more myths.

We use a progressive tax system here in America, which means the more money you make the more

that money is taxed.

Actually, most countries use this system.

It's a common misconception that if you make this much money, you're taxed at this

rate, but if you make just one dollar more, all of your money is taxed at a higher rate.

Which just isn't true, so let's look at how it works.

We're going to be working with the 2017 brackets since that's what you'll be filing

your taxes under this year, near the end I'll talk about the 2018 changes.

Like the other guy, he's single and makes $30,000 a year.

The first $9325 is taxed at 10% - so of that, he owes $932.50.

The remaining $20,675 is taxed at 15%, coming out to $3101.25.

So, in total he owes $4033.75.

Well that wasn't a very good example, it only crosses two brackets.

Alright, let's look at his boss.

One Enclave, One America.

Who is also single but makes $100,000 a year.

Again, the first $9325 is taxed at 10%.

The 15% bracket goes up to $37,950, which means only $28625 of his income is taxed at

that rate.

The next bracket goes up to $91,900 and is taxed at 25%.

And his final $8100 is taxed at 28%.

His final tax bill is $20,981.75, so even though his income falls into the 28% bracket,

not all of his income is taxed at that rate.

28% is what is called his top marginal tax rate, while his effective tax rate is only

20.98% There are other proposed tax systems, like

the regressive system, which means the more money you make the less that money is taxed.

Which obviously disproportionately benefits the rich, which is why no country on earth

uses it.

And then there is the flat tax, which means all income is taxed at the same rate, which

sounds fair… which is why every few years someone tries to push for it.

But let's look at it in practice.

In order for a flat tax to work, it would have to be high enough that the government

doesn't lose any revenue.

In order to keep that same level of revenue, it would have to be something like 36%, which

is insane.

So let's use a number that has been proposed before – 18%.

This guy would see his taxes go up and this guy would see his taxes go down.

Just like the regressive system, it disproportionately helps the wealthy.

Imagine if he was making millions or even billions of dollars.

In 2012, a presidential candidate suggested a 9-9-9 plan, which included a 9% flat income

tax, which is excessively low, but introduced a new 9% national sales tax to make up the

difference.

So effectively, your federal taxes would be 18% total.

In the US, sales tax is a local and state consumption tax on only certain goods.

Essential items like food are not taxed.

But for frivolous items like cars, tvs, and tampons, it gets a little messy… gross.

Tampons should not be taxed.

Since it's state and local, it changes city to city, but on average it's 7%.

Adding a national 9% sales tax would suddenly mean everything costs 16% more than what it

says on the price tag.

In Ireland it's called the Value Added Tax, or VAT, and it's 23% nationwide But you

wouldn't know it, because that price is figured into the price tag – it's not

a surprise when you get to the register.

Why do we have to go and make things so complicated?

Speaking of complicated, while I figured out the tax brackets, I'm sure some of you were

furiously writing out comments about how I forgot about deductions, exemptions, and credits.

I didn't forget, it said that in the bottom cor- let's explain those now.

Let's just focus in on this guy, but since he's single, he doesn't really qualify

for any of the fun stuff.

So let's complicate things by giving him custody of one child.

Ad victoriam.

Let's not make him married though, life's hard enough as it is.

But since he now has a dependent, he gets to file as head of household, so the brackets

get all messed up.

Leave it to a kid to make a mess of things.

The first $13350 is taxed at 10% and the remaining $16650 is taxed at 15%.

The first deduction he is going to take is the Standard Deduction, which for head of

household, is $9350.

He could itemize, which means individually deducting state income tax, social security

and medicare, donations to charity, and even things like sales tax, but – For most people,

almost always, the Standard Deduction is higher.

Unless you have some incredibly complicated tax situation or make enormous amounts of

money, which most of you don't, just take the Standard Deduction.

Then he is going to claim two Personal Exemptions, one for him, one for his child, totaling $8100.

These two numbers, the Standard Deduction and Personal Exemptions, are subtracted from

his overall income of $30,000, meaning he is only taxed on $12550.

It would be nice if we lived in a country where they just said your first however many

dollars weren't taxed, that system would make so much more sense.

But as far as I know, no such country exists, so we're left with having to do math.

So that's it, his income only falls into the 10% bracket, so he owes $1255.

But that's not the entire story, because while deductions reduce the amount of income

you are taxed on, credits reduce the amount of taxes you owe.

There are all sorts of credits, like if you bought an electric car or installed solar

panels on your house, but we're just going to focus on the most popular two.

The Child Tax Credit is just $1000 per child, nice and easy.

Now he only owes $255.

Then there is the Earned Income Credit, which is complicated because it scales depending

on income.

It's not a case of, if you make below this amount you get it, if you make above it you

don't.

So if you've ever thought to yourself "if I made just a hundred dollars less, I would

have gotten that credit."

If you're that close to the line, the credit is worth single digits.

But for this guy, it's $1536.

Which means on top of getting back all of his federal income tax withholding from his

paychecks throughout the year, the government owes him an additional $1281.

This is why an estimated 45% of Americans pay no federal income tax, because of the

deductions and credits from having kids and stuff.

But since we're still dealing with 2017, I would be remiss if I didn't mention the

opposite of credits – penalties.

If you didn't have health insurance in 2017, you owe the government at least $695 per person.

Either you owe in in addition to your taxes or it gets taken out of your refund.

But that penalty is going away in 2018 thanks to the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.

I promised I would talk about the 2018 changes, so here we go.

Let's start with this guy, single making $30,000 a year.

He got a $6350 Standard Deduction and $4050 Personal Exemption and no credits, so he owes

$2473.75, an effective tax rate of 8.25%.

The brackets shift a little bit and his top bracket is now only 12%, but the biggest change

is the near-doubling of the Standard Deduction to $12,000.

However, this is offset by the fact that the new plan completely eliminates Personal Exemptions.

So in the end, he now owes $1969.50, a savings of $504.25.

Now for the rich guy.

In 2017, he owed $18,138.50.

Again, his Standard Deduction and Personal Exemption are rolled into one Standard Deduction,

totaling $12,000, and the brackets shift a bit again.

His top bracket is now only 24% and his tax burden falls to $15409.50, a reduction of

$2729.

And lastly, the complicated guy, earning $30,000 with one child as head of household.

In 2017, he got a Standard Deduction and 2 Personal Exemptions, totaling $17,450.

Those have been bundled together for a Standard Deduction of $18,000.

The Child Tax Credit doubles to $2000, and the Earned Income Credit creeps up slightly

to $1662.

So he will now get a refund of $2462, almost double what he got for 2017.

The 2018 plan helps almost everyone – it helps some people a lot more than others,

but still, it helps most everyone.

At times it seems like our system is incredibly confusing when compared to others, and sometimes

it seems like it's that way on purpose.

But it isn't that confusing – I explained it to you in only 15 minutes or so.

Odds are that most of you are completely capable of doing your own taxes, you don't need

to pay someone else.

You can either do them with paper and pencil or using something like TurboTax, either way

– you can still do it yourself.

And before you feel compelled to ask me a question down below about your specific tax

situation down below, just remember.

I'm playing with funkopops and monopoly money, don't ask me!

You really should know better… hey!

So what are you going to do with your refund?

Did you know I have a patreon?

Because I have a patreon… if you'd like to see more videos like this, consider donating

MAKING YOUR OCs as FUNKO POPS | OC CHALLENGE - Duration: 9:40.

Hi everybody I'm Paula and I am going to make a special Funko pop today this time

I am going to make Bethany from Bethany's world and I will link to her

YouTube channel and also to the little video she put up so that it would show

me her picture her drawing is so cute you have got to look at her channel and

see her drawings but anyway let's see here's a picture of her and I want to

see if we can make a pop to look kind of like her but you know that there's not

many options but we'll see what we can do let's start here and I would love to

make her eyes a different color because as you can see from the picture she has

done a really good job making the eyes so pretty with all the different colors

but we have to go with black because that's kind of what you get it Funko

right and if you want to make your own Funko pop you can come to Funko calm and

get an account and make all the pops that you want because it's a lot of fun

it really is and you might be able to do it without an account I'm not sure

you'll have to come up here and look okay let's go to the face

it looks good how it is I don't see where it's going to need anything unless

going to put on a little bit of blush that would be nice but you know we don't

need anything like this or you know that or which you know they're cool and

everything but we don't need those so eyebrows we need eyebrows don't we I

mean we could use eyebrows her hair comes down over the eyebrows people have

eyebrows so we'll put I browse on and I'm gonna make them brown not sure which

ones I want I guess I'll use those

okay that looks good now let's go to her hair and for the hairstyle wow this is

what we have to choose from well we know it's not one of those because that's a

little short right I'll look IKEA look at that it's a lot adorable and don't

say it's not adorable that was adorable look at these I just love looking at the

hairstyles and yeah I don't want to take all day looking at hair let's try to get

it I think it's a little darker I don't know if I should use that they

definitely don't have a lot to choose from and I would love to give her really

long bangs uncle dorable oh so cute and I don't see anything now this one has

bangs kind of at least it's some bangs which is better than no bangs right okay

well that at least has bangs well this is cute too that has bangs I wish they

had some that came really really long I'll see that when the bangs come longer

but then their ponytails braided which are cute too oh gosh

see I do this every time I run into all this trouble I don't know I kind of like

that one that one doesn't have any bangs at all okay I'm gonna go with that one I

know it's not perfect it's not wavy enough to suit me this one's more wavy

and I wish that had bangs I would use that well anyway I'm gonna go with this

one and I guess I don't feel very sure about it because it's not perfect but

then they never are okay we got to go to something else let's good outfit now she

did have a great shirt which I guess we could make it great or off-white if they

have something like that and black pants and black boots

wait stop click on that right now is that seriously that is black pants and

black boots right or leggings okay well that's perfect I'm not going

to change that now for the shirt I don't know about whoa that's great

it's camo I think or yeah that's camo so it's not just great okay now that one is

white or off-white Wow okay I'm running into trouble again I knew it that is not

what we want okay it looks like unless there's something over here that we have

the two already wait this is gray that might be a little dark gray let's see I

am having so much trouble every time I get into this I think it's gonna be easy

I'd like that one and I didn't click on it yes I did I kind of like that one

because I know hers didn't have a design on it but it's lighter and it looks more

like the shirt I think now this one that one's kind of more white which I guess

could be okay oh gosh now I have this see I wish she was here to ask her

because I don't know or should I go this what would you use would you use the

white like this or the gray camo because her shirt did not have camo on it okay

I'm gonna go with this one because I think it might match a little more it's

a little more white than the great I guess we don't have to be that picky

right or do we oh my goodness this is crazy

okay let's go to accessories I don't know if she would like to have a dog or

a cat I mean who wouldn't right I mean dogs and cats are cute she could have a

pet and she could have those oh look what no I didn't do that oh those are

sunglasses what am I on

okay that's cute that is really cute we could give her a cat I mean I'm not

sure what her pet is but that but that's cute I guess I could leave let's

discover that yeah that that's perfect okay I am going to go no pets okay so I

don't know if I do anybody else you'll have to tell me if you want a pet

because I don't know I mean I like pets I think they're great

I definitely think they're so cute but I think she looks cute and I think it

looks kind of like her kind of not been you know I couldn't do it perfectly and

I did try I did I tried okay let's see background what shit background me Wow

okay I could make this anything I suppose that it's got to look good with

her oh wow that just stands right out there doesn't it oh that's nifty I like

that but I think I'll go with something I don't know a little plain that's nice

I I like that right there this one I don't know what color I seriously don't

blue looks nice I like that there's so many to choose

from I'm glad that they gave us so many backgrounds because that is really fun

and they're all really neat and there you are slender running from slender in

the forest if that isn't terrifying okay I know it is I have done it seriously

and I am terrible at slender and sometimes I think when you're really

terrible at games they're more scary have you ever noticed that like if

you're really good at it and you know what you're doing you're not that scared

but if you don't know what you're doing in a game and you go in something scary

like a zombie game or something and you don't know the controls where well it is

terrifying I mean to me anyway these just pop have you noticed I mean they

just pop like Funko pop uh but what am I even doing stop I'm gonna go with that

that that's definitely better I think so anyway guys that is Bethany from

Bethany's world make sure you check in the description

because I'm gonna put a link to her channel and also to the little picture

that she drew for me to look at and you know I may be doing some more of you

guys if you do want me to try to do you please either link to a picture of you

or you could get me on Instagram I put my Instagram which is Paula Frey and

stuff there's a link on my youtube channel it's a little button and make

sure you subscribe please and click the bell so you can get notifications okay

and anyway guys as you know up here you only have so many options but if you do

have something you want me to try let me know and I'll see what I can fit in and

I'll talk to you guys later bye

Interview with Philipp Hochmair about "Vorstadtweiber" and "Kater" - Duration: 3:36.

You are theater, you live theater, you think theater, you eat theater, you drink theater.

But on Vorstadtweiber you play Schnitzler, rather restrained and very cool and calm.

Exactly.

We have a clip here which caused quite the controversy.

Jürgen Maurer and Philipp Hochmair have their first gay date.

In the cast is also Gerti Trassel, the wife of Jürgen Maurer and that how it looks like!

Philipp Hochmair.

To Vorstadtweiber!

To Vorstadtweiber!

But didn't you... didn't you get a little bit scared, I mean Maurer is a great guy but he's a very bodily person.

When this bodily force of nature throws himself at you in bed?

I enjoyed it to massgae his hairy breasts.

Yes!

It was glorious. - Did you really?

Yes, it was great!

Have you rehearsed the scene?

Not once.

And was he better in bed than your partner in the movie Der Kater?

Which just starts. I think it premiers at the Berlinale in Austria.

Exactly.

Where you also play one part of a gay couple.

With a musician. It's a very tender movie.

Maybe we should show a clip from that too? - Why not?

I think it's called just Kater.

Without the noun maker.

It's called Kater. - Exactly.

Händl Klaus. - And that's the trailer of this beautiful movie.

Can be seen in Vienna beginning november 4th.

Händl Klaus with Philipp Hochmair in the main role.

How difficult is it to work with cats?

It's very difficult to make them look into the right direction, isn't it?

It's already dffiicult enough to actually life with cats.

Yeah, was it difficult?

Extremely difficult.

We've occupied that house, where this household happens, where this life happens, for a long time.

For 18 months I think. And the cats have lived there the whole time.

We've fed them and they saw us as owners.

You just revealed that there was more than one cat.

Shit.

Just like with Komissar Rex. There were like 4 dogs in total.

Now you just revealed that.

The people believe in their illusions. - That it was always the same dog.

But Peter Rapp is one in a kind.

No, they have 3 more Peter Rapp in their cellar.

Are you sure?

But doesn't that drive the film crew crazy if the cat doesn't do what the director wants him to?

Well, with time you find a way to trigger them, but food doesn't always work.

You have certain kinds of ways.

But sometimes the crew just sat behind the bed like on safari, with the cameras and some sort of bait.

It sometimes took hours until he did what we wanted him to, but in the end it worked.

Is it true that you needed 3 days to shoot one particular scene?

Until the cat... one of the cats was in the right lighting?

Is that really true? 3 days?

Well, not in the right lighting but he has to do something so there can be a dialog.

You can't communicate with the cat if he isn't positioned where you want him to.

Do you have a cat allergy? - No.

Very practical for that project I guess.

He has... I know, you have a cat allergy.

Homophobia and cat allergy were an absolute No-go for that movie.

Yes, I believe that.

I believe that.

Are you mostly booked for homosexual roles? - Yes.

It's a field.- Yes?

Performing homosexual.

Take the room with the homosexual music, it became a field.

Have you studied it?

Homosexuality?

Yes, at the Reinhard seminar.

At the Homo-seminar.

Yes.

Max... Homo... Max-Homo-seminar.

Brandauer teached it to you? - Yes, exactly. Brandauer teached me the Max-Homo-seminar.

What it's like to SAIL LA VAGABONDE! Ep. 128 - Duration: 16:19.

After removing all evidence of riley's cheat night we untied the lines and said aurevoir to france and all the lovely people that have become

like a family to us as sad as it can be leaving familiar faces and places

I've always got it in the back of my head that it's not a goodbye it's a see you later

We just left Le Grande-Motte in France, the last time you guys

saw us we were in Menorca with our Patrons

We quickly dashed up to Le Grande-Motte to get some minor changes made to the boat and now we are

heading south to the south of Spain, Cartagena which is

420 nautical miles

We've got, some wind today so we're really pumped. We just finished the shakedown cruise so there was

just, a few little things that we needed

tightening and fixing and

fastening and redoing and stuff like that so we got all that done

most noticeably, the

tender now sits absolutely flush with the davit arm so we're very happy with that

that will stop a big wave coming over the back landing in the tender and causing all sorts of mischief

so that was one of the major ones that i wanted to get sorted out and

now we're on our way. We've had no wind when we left, we were a bit disappointed, we knew there was gonna be about 20 knots

25 knots out here.. Well it was gonna be 35 at one stage i got the storm bag out

Yeah, Riley got a bit excited

but we've put the Code D up this morning to hopefully catch the wind further out here and

we have and we are flying at about what, 13, 14 knots boat speed it's been a really fun morning I would say. it's good

to be out on the water again

Riley's complaining that he's hungry and he has eaten two pizzas, in the last 12 hours

He always does this thing where if we're going on a big trip he'll like you know buy a pizza or buy something

to have on board and he ends up eating it like the night before we go so

He must suffer the consequences

What on earth is going on down here?

I've found a...

can you hear that?

yeah

i've been pulling up

glue, there's like no creaks on the whole boat and then when one crops up i'm just like

you don't feel bad about

chasing, well it's not like there's a hundred and you're like, 'whatever i'll just put earplugs in'

Like okay i'm gonna go and get this one

and it's a pretty bad creak

it sends me absolutely insane

You get it?

Well there's all these wires down here so I keep looking so i don't like go through a conduit and

cut up cut the autopilot cable in half

Don't do that

mission accomplished ladies and gentlemen no more squeaks, very happy

It wasn't long before we found the wind that we had seen forecast by the guys at Predict Wind

We just got to 21 yeah Knots? 21 Knots boat speed yeah

we just got to

21.8

Knots boat speed in 24 knots of wind and i was like cleaning up here in the galley and i heard the hum

i looked over at the

Navigation here and i was like oh no.. We basically just did what we did we went to Corsica so..

Yeah, these waves are really choppy, I need to put my dishes away I need to get back to that, but the waves are really choppy

So it's just.. A bit awkward out here

it feels ok, it's just we gotta really watch it

How's that?

Yep

Yep?

News just in..

22.2 baby

Before everyone starts

Going crazy, the sea is

Short and steep, the bows are definitely not burying. So we've got two reeves in the main and we're getting

pushed along

we're surfing a lot but the bows aren't burying at all so it just feels fast but totally fine

So the actual pressure on the rig, which is the apparent wind speed, is very very minimal, I mean we've got

To reeves in, where we should only be thinking

About putting our first reeve, so the drama is the surfing, which is because of the short steep waves, they're just

pushing us into a surf all the time

How's it go?

Did you feel that one though? I did it with the wave, but the bows aren't burying

So we're just surfing a lot. We've

accidentally jibed a couple of times, but because we've got such little mainsail up that's not a drama at all

After a ripping day sail and quite a lot of concentration, it died down for us at nighttime

it was time for a nip of red and to settle in for the night in my long johns.

We need to figure out with this wind speed where we'll roughly be in ten hours time and

follow the

weather, cos you see this system is gonna move further south and also change directions

Guys, just before I go to bed as you know we're doing a patreon meet up early this year in Florida

We need to keep calling out names until we can fill the spots. So I have two names here today, congratulations

to

Michael Holmes, can you make it? Please send us an email.. and a Tricia Toodean. Thank you guys both

So much For the support we really hope you can make it we'd love to meet you

And we can't wait to have a ball with you guys and La Vaga

anyway thank you, that's all from me, good night

It's very quiet on the boat this morning, the winds died off by about 5 knots

Its about 18 knots true wind at the moment and surfing down waves at about 11

i've

jibed this morning and i would like to shake a reeve out, but i'll wait for Riley to wake up, because he

didn't get much sleep last night, so..

Want to let him sleep for at least another hour or two. That's cool we are cruising along

heading

towards Majorca, we're just going to cruise past the left-hand side of the island i think

it's crib time

you've already finished, you're supposed to wait

It's really nice

How was your sleep Riles?

It was alright

just alright?

yep

Why not good?

well

You're on passage, so someone's got to be awake, so in those wee hours of the morning

someone has to be awake and it just breaks your cycle, knocks you around a bit

what are you doing

Going to do some yoga

Yoga?

yeah

Are ya?

Yeah

We're sailing

so?

What do you mean?

yeah, no, fair enough

I just wanted to show you how beautiful it is out here

Think we'll have the Code D up

Maybe overnight, it's like perfect conditions, the waves have just flattened out and the moon has come out

And there's Majorca

If you can see it.. Might zoom-in on the better lens in a sec.. but yes

Just got an email here that im composing to Matthieu and Outremer

I say, 'good to test her out again but unfortunately it only got up to 28 knots..

i've been thinking a lot about the Atlantic crossing as these would have been fairly similar conditions. If you don't mind i'll keep

checking in with you guys about different things i notice during different sails and keep getting advice from you.

The wind that we had was 22 to 28 knots from

120 to 130 degrees

We had to reeves in the main and full jib out. Speed over ground, 10 to 12 plus plus plus

easily all day but that isn't the reason for the email..

We were surfing quite regularly to 17 and once to 22 knots

Because of the way the Gulf De Leon is, we were getting two different wave trains that were

intersecting on our course, making for surfing that was a little strange.

At one stage we accidentally jibed at 17 knots.' So..

accidentally jibed is a jibe that is done accidentally when you, the wind is behind you and you cross

Over and your boom sort of slams to the side, it's not a good thing, but, 'we were doing

17 knots surfing down the face of the wave on autopilot

But because

We were going so fast the apparent wind was only 10 knots, and we jibed back with ease.

there was almost no slap or bang and we just kept sailing. I had a quick look at the instruments, could feel the boat and

what she was doing and it felt completely fine.

In my whole time' - and this is the thing - 'in my whole time on board so far at no stage have I felt as though

I have needed to run to the wheel and take control

Whereas that used to happen so regularly on the old boat. I guess Matthieu, i'm just asking you

if you would recommend dropping everything and running to the wheel at anything over 17 or is that completely

normal?' So i'm just checking in there with those guys just to make sure that what i'm feeling my instincts onboard

okay, usually i'd ask people what they think and to comment in the section below, but this is just so

esoteric that i don't think too many people are going

To be able to help out, but if you think that you can contribute to the conversation, please let me know your

thoughts and experiences in the comment section below. All right, cool, thank you, see ya.

A strange vibration at 3:00 a.m.

woke us both up

our Watt & Sea see had caught some rope and fishing line and it was dragging behind the boat causing the whole portside hull to make a

weird sound

We spent the next hour or two trying to free this thing up

the early morning air was fresh, as we cruised into a quiet Cartagena. We are just coming into Cartagena, and it's really cold

it is a bit cold isn't it

"We are the marina on the east side of Cartagena so when you pass the green light house..

You have to change course to the northeast and call us on channel 9 vhf..

Thank you, Jamie." But he's Spanish so i'm assuming we're gonna have to call him "Jamie"

Yacht port Cartagena, yacht port Cartagena, La Vagabonde, La Vagabonde

I dropped the main-sail this morning coming in because we just had it up and we were cruising in at like, four knots, waiting for the sun to come up

Now, we're going into the marina and it'll be great to tie off and.. die... die on the couch

I can tell you're tired

Im a little bit tired, it's not the end of the world

it's cleanup time and then sleep time for Elaynita

Yes, well you've been hard at it darling

So how long are we keeping the bed

Well I need to show Jimmy, so..

Oh yes, Jimmy is arriving today, you guys saw Jimmy in our New Zealand episodes

he also introduced Riley and I

He let us borrow that car that we featured in 2 episodes up the

west coast of WA

Jimmy, also let us to live at his house for four months during the hurricane season in 2015 when we ran out of money and

needed to get jobs and stuff

and he introduced us

and he introduced us, i said that

anyway, Jimmy's arriving today

He introduced us as well Elayna

Did he?

yea

oh

Don't forget that

he also introduced us

Thanks for watching, next week, join us and our friend as, we explore the outskirts of the city

Before heading south to Morocco

The Structure & Cost of US Health Care: Crash Course Sociology #44 - Duration: 9:50.

The health care system in America is...complicated.

Doctors, hospitals, insurance and drug companies

– it can be hard to navigate all the moving parts of healthcare, and it's even harder if you're trying to do it when you're sick.

Theory and statistics can give us a broad understanding of the social and cultural forces that affect health.

But for the average American making choices about healthcare, the questions that matter most are the practical ones.

After all, when you're running a fever, the most important question is where can you find a doctor to make you better.

And then after the fever has gone down and you get the bill, your question might become, "How do I pay for this?

And why does giving me an aspirin count as a separate thing that I get charged for?"

It's easier to answer these questions once you understand how the US structures and finances its health care system.

So, let's do it.

[Theme Music]

Let's start with the basic structure of the healthcare system in the United States.

Health care is split into different sectors – the private, the public, and the voluntary sectors.

Private and public sectors supply insurance and care to most Americans.

In the private sector, 56% of patients pay for their health care with insurance that they get primarily through their employer.

There are also public health insurance plans for vulnerable groups –

like Medicare, which covers elderly Americans, and Medicaid, which covers Americans below a certain poverty threshold.

The government also provides healthcare through things like VA hospitals and the Bureau of Indian Affairs,

and it has a legal mandate to provide healthcare for people in federal prison.

But the voluntary sector is different, in that it includes charitable organizations that do health research and provide free or low-cost health services,

like the American Cancer Association or the March of Dimes.

So, with all of these options available, what determines how easy or hard it might be to get access to health care?

In this context, access refers to entry into, or use of, the health care system.

In 1981, two professors of Public Health at the University of Michigan – Roy Penchansky and J. William Thomas –

came up with what they called the Five A's of health care access: availability, accessibility, accommodation, acceptability, and affordability.

So, the first "a" asks: Does the person live where the health services they need are readily available?

If you live in a major city, you might take it for granted that finding a doctor or a 24-hour clinic on short notice is just a google search away.

Urban areas have more doctors, specialists, and hospitals – all of which means that a wider variety of services are available.

By contrast, rural areas are more likely to experience shortages of healthcare workers.

Urban areas have twice as many doctors per person as rural areas!

Rural areas also tend to have issues with the second "a", accessibility.

Accessibility here refers to a person's literal ability to get to facilities and keep appointments.

Transportation to appointments can be much more difficult in rural places, where providers tend to be farther away.

This is especially hard for people with chronic illnesses or disabilities that make it impossible for them to drive by themselves.

Time can also be a limiting factor.

Doctor's appointments are usually during business hours, so patients may have to miss work to get the care they need.

Low-income and blue collar workers are more likely to have jobs that don't offer paid sick leave –

and they may even be fired if they miss work due to illness.

Sociocultural factors can also impact the accessibility.

And so can the accommodations provided by health services.

Accommodations are the ways that services are organized to accept clients, like the hours that they're open or the ways that they communicate with patients.

Language barriers can make it especially hard for non-English speaking patients in the US.

So accommodations like translators or multilingual information packets, can help mitigate the disparities.

And finding the 'right' accommodations for different populations can be difficult, too.

For example, Hmong Americans, who primarily immigrated as refugees from Southeast Asia in the wake of the Vietnam war, have higher mortality rates than native-born Americans.

Providing medical information can be hard, because no written form of the Hmong language existed until the 1960s,

meaning that many Hmong people can't read or write in their own language, and dialects vary, making it hard to find the right translator.

Once you get past all those other obstacles, there's still the matter of whether the doctor and patient have similar ideas about how the whole doctor-patient relationship should work.

Some people want a doctor who gives them the information they need to make decisions themselves.

But others just want to leave all the decision-making to the doctor and just be told what pills to take.

How satisfied a patient is with their healthcare tends to depend on the match between their preferences and their doctor's style of care, or the doctor-patient congruence.

A patient's satisfaction with a provider will determine if they return.

So the next "a", acceptability, is based on whether a doctor meets the patient's preferences –

both in terms of their professional abilities and in their personal traits, like gender, race, or age.

For example, many people feel more comfortable with a doctor of the same gender as themselves,

so if none are available, they may not find that health care experience acceptable.

The last A of the five A's is a pretty important one, particularly in the United States: affordability.

How people pay for health care in the US, and more importantly if people can pay for health care, is closely linked to how we financially structure the healthcare system.

The US has what's known as a 'fee-for-service' healthcare system, where services are unbundled and paid for separately.

So if you go in for a check up and the doctor orders a blood test and an x-ray, the charges on the bill will be separated into three parts:

the x-ray, the lab test for the blood, and the cost of the doctor's time.

There are pros and cons to a system like this.

It incentivizes doctors to do a lot of tests, because they'll get a separate fee for every test.

Which can be good – you want your doctor to be thorough when you're not feeling well.

But a fee-for-service system also incentivizes overtreatment, and this drives up the cost of care.

The US also relies on a third-party payer system, which means that medical costs are paid through a third party,

like a commercial insurance company that's responsible for paying the doctor on behalf of the patient.

Third-party payer systems often rely on cost-sharing, where the insured patient pays a little each month, whether they need care or not.

This helps limit the overall costs to the insurance provider.

An insurance premium is the amount you pay to the insurance company each month so that you can keep your coverage.

A deductible is the portion of the health care costs that you're responsible for yourself before your insurance kicks in.

Most insurers offer lower monthly premiums if you accept a higher deductible – so it's kind of a trade off:

do you want to pay more per month and not have to worry about meeting the deductible,

or would you rather pay less per month and worry later when faced with more expensive medical bills?

Health insurance exists to protect us from health uncertainty.

We don't know if we'll get sick or how expensive being sick will be,

making it pretty much impossible to save enough money against the possibility of a very costly illness.

So let's go to the Thought Bubble one last time, to discuss how health insurance helps us manage financial risk in the face of a health crisis.

Suppose there's a 1 in 50 chance that you'll break your leg and have to pay $7,500 to get an x-ray, a cast, and some therapy.

You might not be able to dig up that much money.

But what if you have 49 other people who also are worried about breaking their leg?

If you all agree to chip in $150 dollars to a pool that will go to whichever one of you breaks their leg,

you all can rest easy knowing that you won't have to empty your bank account if you fall out of a tree.

This is a simple example of a risk pool – a group of individuals who are covered under one insurance plan.

An insurance company decides how to set their premiums and deductibles based on how likely the 'risk' is that they'll have to pay out an insurance benefit.

Take our broken leg example.

What if some of those fifty people were really into extreme sports and actually had a 50% chance breaking their leg?

If the insurance company knows that, they might increase the price that you have to pay into the pool,

because there's a greater likelihood that more people will need them to shell out $7500 for a broken leg.

Some insurance plans set prices using community rating in which everyone in the risk pool is charged the same price to buy into the insurance plan.

But in the US, insurance plans typically use experience rating, where different groups that have higher or lower risks pay different prices.

For example, smokers are at a higher risk for heart disease and lung cancer, so an insurer might charge you higher premiums if you smoke.

Thanks Thought Bubble.

Hopefully, that helps you better understand how insurance plans work.

Access to affordable insurance can make a huge difference in the quality of health care that a person receives.

People without insurance use preventative services less often, are more likely to postpone medical care,

and are more likely to move between different doctors, resulting in worse continuity of care.

As a result, being uninsured is associated with a greater need for more expensive and more urgent medical procedures.

The high costs of medical care in the US and the high number of uninsured people are big parts of what spurred the passage of the Affordable Care Act

and kicked off the national debate about the best way to deal with these twin problems in the US health system.

Of course, what we've covered here today, is only one understanding of how healthcare works in the US.

There's so much more to consider and explore in this topic and, quite frankly, with everything else that we've discussed throughout this course.

But even though Crash Course Sociology has to come to an end,

the number of questions that remain unanswered about how societies work is never ending.

Hopefully this course has given you some helpful tools and perspectives to use as you analyze and participate in the social world.

Thanks for joining me and don't forget to be awesome.

Today, we talked about what the health care system in the US looks like,

the five A's of health care accessibility, and a couple of contributing factors to the affordability of health care:

Fee for service care and the structure of our health insurance system which encourage higher spending.

Genesis Chapter 5: What's Going On With The Numbers? - Duration: 16:25.

Welcome to 929 Chapters I'm your host David Z. Moster PhD and rabbi and today I

have a very exciting topic for you what we're gonna be doing is getting under

the hood of Genesis chapter 5 something usually reserved for PhD and doctorate

of theology students in universities and seminaries but we're gonna be doing this

today for the first time on YouTube this video is going to be broken up into four

parts I'm gonna begin with a summary and outline of the chapter then I'm gonna

give you my comment then we're gonna read some select verses in Hebrew and in

English and then finally I'm going to leave you with a photo about the chapter

so let's begin with a summary and outline of Genesis chapter 5 I broke

this chapter into two parts an introduction in the first two verses and

a genealogy in the rest of the chapter now I'd like to point out three

interesting things about the introduction it begins with the words

[Hebrew] "this is the book of the generations of Adam/man" this is important

because the word "toldot" generations appears a number of times in the book of

Genesis and there are actually 11 passages that have this phrase and many

people like to break up the entire book of Genesis according to this phraseology

that every time the word "toldot" appears it's a new section for more on

this you can see the introduction to the book of Genesis the video here on

youtube the second point I would like to make about the introduction is that this

is the first time that the man is called by a name his name is אדם Adam whereas

in the previous chapters he was called האדם the man and the ה at the

beginning of the word in Hebrew means the word "the" in English the third point

I would like to make is that for those reading the Hebrew text things all of a

sudden get confusing because we now have a person named אדם and we also have the

word for mankind אדם so it's not clear exactly who is

being referred to at each point in the text however what is clear is that אדם

probably mankind is created in the image of God and also has male and female -

there's no mention of Eve here - and that these people were blessed by God himself

that's the introduction verses 1 to 2 now let's take a look at the genealogy

in verses 3 to 32 and this genealogy gives us the first 11 generations of

mankind the first generation is Adam the second

generation is Seth the third generation is Enosh the fourth

generation is Kenan the fifth generation is Mahalalel the sixth generation is

Jared the seventh generation is Enoch the eighth generation is

Methuselah the ninth is Lamech the tenth is Noah the eleventh is

Shem, Ham, and Japheth now there's more to this

genealogy than just these names for example the seventh generation Enoch we

are told that he walked with God and was no more which basically means that he

died young but perhaps more importantly there are a number of numbers in this

genealogy - many many many numbers -let's take a look at them, for each person we

are told the years that they lived until their first child then we are told the

years that they lived after their first child and then we are told the total

lifespan so for example when it comes to Methuselah we are told that Methuselah

lived 187 years until his first child then we are told that he lived 782 years

after his first child and finally we are told that he lived 969 years in total so

this is done for every single person in this chapter now this is already a lot

of numbers however there are even some hidden numbers that lay behind the

chapter that we're gonna even explore further in the comment but let me just

point them out here: because we know how old Adam was when he first had a kid, and

how old his son was when he first had a kid, and so on and so forth, we can

calculate the year that every single person was born - the year from creation -

next once we know the year the person was born we can calculate the year that

a person died from creation, and finally since we know the year that Noah was

born and that the flood took place in the six hundredth year of Noah's life we

can calculate the year of the flood from creation. So for example our friend

Methuselah we can tell that he was born in the year 687 of creation

he died in the year 1656 of creation and that actually happened to be the

year of Noah's Flood 1656 so Methuselah probably died in

the flood itself so using these kinds of numbers we can find some hidden numbers

that lay behind texts such as when the person was born

when the person died and if that person died in the flood or not let's move on

to part two the comment now we don't have the original text of Genesis 5

the closest thing we have are what we call textual witnesses now these are

very very old versions of Genesis and these can give us a snapshot of what the

book of Genesis looked like in the Second Temple period a few centuries

before the Common Era now we're going to deal with three witnesses today the

first one is the Masoretic text, MT for short, this is the standard versions

that we all use today the second one is the Samaritan Pentateuch SP for short

and this is the version used by a group of people known as the Samaritans the

third witness is the Septuagint LXX for short, LXX is a Roman numeral for the

number 70, and that's just a reference to the tradition that there were 72

Israelites that translated the Septuagint from Hebrew into Greek, the

Septuagint was the first translation of the Bible it was written in by the Jews

of Alexandria and it's a translation into Greek now there's a reason we're

going to be looking at these three witnesses, they are very different from

each other, now all the people in the genealogy are the same, the order of the

generations are the same, but the major difference comes to those numbers, and as

we just saw there are a lot of numbers in Genesis chapter 5, so let's take a

look at one example our friend Methuselah

according to the Masoretic text Methuselah lived 187 years when he had

his first child according to Samaritan Pentateuch he was

age 67 when he first had a child and according to the Septuagint he was 167

when he first had a child, now the second years of Methuselah's life according

to the Masoretic text he was 782 according the Samaritan Pentateuch he

was 653 and according to Septuagint he was 802 and then for the total years of

his life the Masoretic Text and the Septuagint end up at 969 but they got

there in different ways, and the Samaritan Pentateuch has him living at

720 years, now let's look at what the year of his death, the year of his death

according to the Masoretic Text was 1656 - the year of the flood, according the

Samaritan Pentateuch 1307 - the year of the flood of the Samaritan Pentateuch,

and according to Septuagint the year 2256

which is about the year of the flood in the Septuagint. We can see that there

were major differences between each and every version. Now, rather than going

through each of these numbers individually which would take a very

very long time what I'm going to do here today is try and show you the logic

behind each of these three witnesses what makes the Masoretic Text unique

what makes the Samaritan Pentateuch unique and what makes the Septuagint

unique so let's begin with the Masoretic Text, the earliest versions we have of

the Masoretic Text are the Aleppo Codex shown here from the Year 930 or

the Leningrad Codex shown here from the year 1008 of the Common Era

these are only the full versions or almost full versions of the Masoretic

text but the Masoretic text can even be found in texts from the Judaean Desert

meaning not in Qumran where the Dead Sea scrolls were found but near Qumran and

these come from the first few centuries before the Common Era one of these

places is the well-known fortress of Masada and what we're looking at here is

from the Dead Sea Scrolls digital library it's a version of the Masoretic

Text what we call the proto Masoretic text and it was found at

Masada and this is from the Book of Leviticus so we have parts of the Masoretic

Text from very ancient sources but the first complete versions of the

Masoretic text come from the Middle Ages let's take a look at the Masoretic

Text, according to this text the flood occurs in the year 1656, nobody outlives

the flood hence Methuselah dies in year 1656, Methuselah not Adam is the

longest living person, and there is no order to the ages of the generations

that basically means that just because you lived in an early generation doesn't

mean you're gonna live longer than a person in a later generation, so if we

look at this chart we can actually see that there's fluctuation, the first few

generations get shorter and shorter and once we get to Jared and Methuselah we

start living longer, Enoch as we mentioned his life got cut short, so

there's no order to these ages, now let's move on to the Samaritan Pentateuch just

like the Masoretic text the earliest complete text of the Samaritan

Pentateuch come from the Middle Ages the 9th to 13th centuries but just like the

Masoretic text we can find a proto-Samaritan text found in the Dead Sea

Scrolls what we're looking at here is a nice circular version of Exodus that was

found in the Dead Sea Scrolls it's called 4QpaleoExodus [4Q22] and this is a

proto-Samaritan text, meaning it agrees with the Samaritan version

that came later now you might be wondering why is this text a circle and

the reason is that it's a patch there's a hole in the original scroll and what

somebody did was cover it up with a patch and then fill in the missing words

so let's take a look at the Samaritan Pentateuch version of Genesis chapter 5

the flood was in the year 1307, 349 years before the Masoretic Text's flood, that's

more than a third of a millennium earlier, nobody outlives the flood hence

Jared Methuselah and Lamech died in the year 1307 - big coincidence all these

people are dying at the year of the flood - there is an order to the ages in

the Samaritan Pentateuch, it's that every single generation for the most part

starts living less and less than the previous generations and this really is

a build-up to the next chapter when Yahweh is going to say that man should

not live more than a hundred and twenty years, there's going to be an age limit

to mankind and what this basically means that Adam is the longest living person

at 930 years and not Methuselah, so this is the Samaritan Pentateuch version of

Genesis chapter 5, let's move on to the Septuagint, the most early manuscripts

come from the 3rd to 5th century such as the Codex Vaticanus seen here but we

also have even earlier snippets found in the Dead Sea Scrolls such as here we

have a piece of Septuagint on the Book of Leviticus and you can see how it's

written in Greek, according to the Septuagint the flood occurs in year 2242

which is 586 years after the Masoretic Text and 935 years after the

Samaritan Pentateuch, that's almost a thousand-year difference in when the

flood took place, the general system of the Septuagint is that it takes the

first years of a person's life found in the Masoretic text or sometimes a

Samaritan Pentateuch and adds a hundred years to it, this is why the flood is so

late, if you're adding a hundred years into every generation over time that

equals about a thousand years, there is no pattern to the ages in the Septuagint

just like the Masoretic Text and in the Septuagint nobody lives past the flood

save for some manuscripts with Methuselah living 14 years past the flood

but those are probably a mistake so we have three ancient witnesses to Genesis

chapter 5 they all have different numbers what are we supposed to do?

There are really two options you could take, the first option is to choose one

text and say that it is the best, some people prefer the Masoretic Text

because it's clunky, there's no rhyme or reason to the ages, it doesn't

really seem so ordered which sounds like a real genuine

genealogy, others take the exact opposite approach and say no the Samaritan

Pentateuch version is to be preferred because the biblical authors liked order

and it is very ordered, a lot of people died in the year of the flood, there's

order to the generations, people start living less and less, so this text is to

be preferred and no one that I've yet seen actually prefers the Septuagint

probably because it's so clearly based on the Masoretic Text and the

Samaritan Pentateuch just with some changes the next approach is to

reconstruct a new text this was the approach of Ralph W. Klein in a brilliant

article named "Archaic Chronologies and the Textual History of the Old Testament"

this came out in 1974 and still great today what Klein did is he looked at

every number individually and looked among the three witnesses to see which

number is to be preferred let's look at for example our friend Methuselah

the first years of Methuselah's life, according to the Masoretic text it

was 187 years, according to the Samaritan Pentateuch it was 67 years, and according

to the Septuagint it was 167 years, so which one is right?

so Klein noticed that the Septuagint always adds a hundred years to the

Masoretic text, so the 167 here in the Septuagint that means the Masoretic text

should be 67, but it's not, however the Samaritan Pentateuch is 67

so in this instance Klein feels that the original number was 67 the Samaritan

Pentateuch kept it the Septuagint added 100 and for a reason to be

explained below the Masoretic text added 120 so in this case the

original number was 67 so what Klein does is he shows how one two or even

three of the text were making changes so this leads to a fourth reconstructed

original version of Genesis 5 and let's take a look how Klein reconstructs

according to Klein the flood occurred in the year 1342, there is no

order to the ages, Methuselah is the longest living person, and finally

and most importantly the last three generations

Jared, Methuselah, and Lamech, these three people outlive the flood, Methuselah for

more than two centuries, so according to Klein the original

version of Genesis 5 had three people outliving

the flood this is a major problem and later scribes are going to try and fix

this and they're gonna take one of two approaches, the Masoretic Text and the

Septuagint made the flood appear later, and if you make the flood much later

then nobody is going to survive [past it], the Samaritan Pentateuch took the exact

opposite approach, the Samaritan Pentateuch said keep the flood where it

is just make the people live shorter lives, and that's why everyone was dying

in the year 1307, they were dying the year of the flood, so you might be

wondering I've shown you three ancient textual witnesses and I've shown you a

fourth hypothetical reconstruction so what do I think? how do I understand

Genesis chapter 5? in order to answer this I think there are three main points

we have to go through, the first one is that every text was making changes to

the numbers, they weren't making changes to the names they weren't making changes

to the orders, they were making changes to the numbers and the numbers alone, the

second point is that the difference is between the Masoretic Text and the

Samaritan Pentateuch primarily concerned the last three generations, meaning the

three generations just before the flood, finally since we are dealing with a

problem of numbers and the generations just before the flood it makes sense

that the numbers were changed because of the flood, so I agree with Klein but I'm

not sure about his exact numbers especially for Lamech because there

probably was some textual mistakes there that we can't really uncover, but for the

most part I think Klein has a brilliant approach to Genesis chapter 5, it's one

of my favorite articles in biblical studies and what it shows is how we can

use the three ancient textual witnesses and try to come at an original pre-

Masoretic Text, pre-Samaritan Pentateuch, pre-Septuagint text of

Genesis chapter 5. Now if you like this kind of study and you're interested,

this is called textual criticism, I highly recommend a book by Emanuel Tov

called Textual Criticism of the Hebrew Bible, this is an unpaid plug for this

book you can get it on Amazon and I'll have a link below and what this does is

it shows you how to compare and contrast the different textual witnesses of the

Hebrew Bible. Okay that does it for our comment today

let's move on to the verses, today we'll be reading verses 23 and 24 [Hebrew]

and all the days of Enoch were [Hebrew]

365 years [Hebrew] and Enoch walked with God

[Hebrew] and he was no more [Hebrew] because God took him that

does it for the verses we're reading inside today let's move on to part 4 the

picture and the public domain photo that I chose to relate to this chapter

relates to the 24th verse Enoch walked with God then he was no more because God

took him and here we see two people walking together okay that does it for

A for Assexuality - Sexualities ABC - Duration: 4:38.

"Cake is better than sex?" It can be, my people, it can be.

Hello people, my name is Carmo Gê Pereira and I am a sex educator for adults.

Let's talk about: Assexuality!

A sexual orientation characterized by absence of desire.

First let's realize what asexuality is NOT. It is not celibacy, nor comes from any disease,

hormonal imbalance or trauma much less are ones rejected.

Abstinence or celibacy are conscious choices of having no sexual activity

for religious, social, or personal reasons.

Think of all the layers that make up your identity, orientation and sexual practices.

On the axis of desire, we find people with normative sexual desire,

ALOSSEXUAL people and people without desire or sexual attraction,

who will be Assexual people. Being Assexual is not an option,

or a choice. It's a sexual orientation.

According to AVEN, the asexuality visibility & education network, the largest Internet community,

at least 1% of the population is the spectrum of asexuality.

Asexual people may or may not choose sexual relationships,

for example some even have sex for the sake of

maintaining physiological functions, others for intimacy with

an alosexual partner or for reproduction. It's all right.

Assexual people can have loving and affective relationships

based on their romantic orientation. They can be hetero-romantic, bi or pan romantic and homo-romantic

or they even can be arromantic and have no interest in establishing romantic relationships,

continuing to be able to love

and full of affective relationships with family, friends and many more people.

Do you remember that axis? As in all axes there is a spectrum. For example there are

the gray-asexual people, who feel sexually attracted to others

in circumstances that are not very clear

and there are demisexual people, people who feel sexual attraction to others

when they build strong emotional bonds with these people.

When you go to a march for our rights remember that the A of the LGBTQIA+,

one plus, is of Assexuals and that the flag has four horizontal stripes: black for asexuality, gray for gray-sexuality and demissexuality,

white for the partners and allies and purple represents the community.

Asexual people are constantly erased and silenced in a compulsive sex society,

often on all sides of the barricade. To be a good ally is to be informed,

it's not asking invasive questions, even if they are loaded with good intentions

and respect the place, struggles and rights that we all have to live in a world where acceptance has to be a given.

This video was made with the help of texts

by Rita Alcaire, a researcher and activist on the subject of asexuality,

with the help of sources from AVEN and asexuals in pt.
