What is up. I am Mr. Beat, and Presidents Day is over

so no longer are we going to be praising past Presidents, but we are going to be talking trash about past Presidents

Here is my video counting down the 10 worst Presidents in American history

according to my opinion. This is just my opinion.

I'm a little biased.

We all are, so keep that in mind.

I'm also aware some of this may reveal my political beliefs and that's fine.

But without further ado, let's just jump right into it, as Phillip DeFranco says.

Number 10, Benjamin Harrison

Ok, he was all about really high tariffs.

and you all know how I feel about tariffs, right?

Right. I'm not a really big fan of tariffs.

Bad job Benjamin.

Harrison was supportive of the overthrow of Queen Liliʻuokalani

and the taking of Hawaii, which is one of the shadiest parts of American history.

Also, the Wounded Knee Massacre occurred under his watch.

Not only did Harrison approve,

But the Army gave out Medals of Honor like they were candy afterward.

for a massacre.

Number 9, Andrew Johnson

I wasn't going to put him on this list. I feel like a lot of historians talk a lot of trash about him unfairly.

But, you know, I'm all about character, right?

And this guy was driven by his ego. This guy, first and foremost, cared about his own legacy

and his own desires.

He refused to compromise, and he seemed to dig his heels when he faced opposition.

Speaking of opposition,

just his blatant opposition to civil rights for African Americans.

as seen with his fighting the 14th and 15th Amendments, and Civil Rights Act.

I mean, that ended up holding back African Americans for generations.

This makes him look exceptionally bad.

And he was a white supremacist.

But mostly his stubbornness in politics. I know the Radical Republicans that he opposed were also stubborn,

but his refusal to compromise with them,

just made it look like he only cared about his own selfish desires and

didn't care about the greater good of the country.

Number 8, George W. Bush

Obviously I am even more biased living through the Presidency of George W. Bush,

but I disagreed with his response to the 9/11 attacks in several ways.

The AUMF, or the Authorization to Use Military Force Against Terrorists,

basically gave a blank check to the President to fight terrorism all around the world. It's still in effect.

The PATRIOT Act, which really was one of the worst laws passed in American history,

It really just stripped civil liberties that Americans used to take for granted.

The Iraq War, dragging out the Afghanistan War with no end in sight.

Not a fan of all these things.

His response to Hurricane Katrina.

The Great Recession happened under his watch, and he responded to it with crony capitalism

which I'm not a big fan of. Bailing out banks and corporations, etc.

No Child Left Behind. No teacher I know is actually a fan of No Child Left Behind.

Not a good law.

He expanded the surveillance state.

The Department of Homeland Security, the TSA,

all that, detaining suspects without warrants,

who were never charged with any crime, never given any due process

just shows that he often made decisions out of fear

not out of reason.

But such a nice guy, though.

I love ya Dubya, sorry about this, if you're watching.

Number 7, Woodrow Wilson

First of all, Cypher from the Cynical Historian has definitely influenced my opinion of Woodrow Wilson.

Cypher: "WIL-SON!"

So a shout out to him. Go watch his two videos where he completely bashes him.

Wilson was all about spreading democracy around the world.

A very ego-centric foreign policy.

It was all about self-determination, right, but it assumed that American knew what was best for the entire world.

And thus, Wilson paved the way for future American interventionism.

One big reason why he got re-elected in 1916 was because he said he kept the country out of World War One.

What happens after he gets re-elected?

He gets the country involved in World War One.

asking Congress to declare war and they do.

And during the war, the Espionage Act, the Sedition Act

two of the worst laws in American history

urinating on the First Amendment

and Cypher pointed this out in one of his videos

I never knew this, but apparently Wilson wanted the Sedition Act before the United States even entered World War One.

And most of our Presidents were racist, ok?

We've got to consider historical relativism, but

Wilson was exceptionally racist, even for his time.

The screening of The Birth of a Nation at the White House and then calling it historically accurate,

not a very smart move by Wilson.

Ignoring all the lynchings that were going on across the country when he was President.

He ignored a lot of things, apparently.

Ignoring women's rights

They were marching across the country for the right to vote. He ignored them.

He ignored the First Red Scare going on. A lot of chaos around the country.

Didn't do anything about it.

Number 6, William McKinley

This one may surprise some of you because McKinley is consistently ranked in the top half of Presidents

usually because the economy was good when he was President

and the U.S. was becoming a world superpower due to a more aggressive foreign policy.

Well guess what? This foreign policy sucked.

McKinley's foreign policy was based on a Christian/American exceptionalism mentality

which meant the U.S. was going to be spreading its influence around the world in places it shouldn't be.

The Spanish-American War, a war built on lies

McKinley, you know, he struggled with the decision at first

but after talking to God, God said "yes, you should go to war with Spain."

So he went to Congress after that and they declared war on Spain.

The Phillippine-American War, which happened as a continuation of the Spanish-American War

That doesn't get much attention, because it makes the United States look pretty bad

but McKinley justified that war.

A war in which Americans killed civilians and rounded up them and put them into concentration camps

McKinley justified this because he thought the Filipinos were incapable of self-governing.

He was the first to bypass Congress to send troops to China to fight in the Boxer Rebellion.

As I said earlier, yes the economy was doing well under McKinley's watch

but he had high tariffs, and again, I am not a fan of high tariffs.

But mostly I am a critic of McKinley due to his brash imperialism

and his general disregard for the sovereignty of nations that just wanted to be left alone.

Number Five, Richard Nixon

He was a pathological liar who mostly just cared about himself and his own legacy.

Not the general welfare of the country

Boy did that backfire

I know there are a lot of obvious reasons to hate on Nixon.

He was a crook. I mean, Watergate

His paranoia and backstabbing make it seem obvious why he's on this list and

and most people's lists.

However, the War on Drugs is probably the biggest mistake of Nixon.

Nixon started the War on Drugs, and we are still seeing the horrible effects of it.

So that's why that tops my list of problems with Nixon.

Nixon got elected promising to end the Vietnam War.

but the war just dragged on during his Presidency.

Meanwhile, while secretly dropping bombs and cancer-causing chemicals on civilians in Vietnam and Cambodia.

He implemented wage and price controls, and this was horrible for the economy.

A big reason why the horrible stagflation of the '70s occurred was because of his administration.

Now don't get me wrong, Nixon did a lot of good and was highly intelligent.

Opening up relations with China,

His policy of detente with the Soviet Union,

and the creation of the E.P.A.,

are probably my favorite three accomplishments of Nixon.

But he had such poor character.

Had a booger sticking out.

Number four, Herbert Hoover

Herbert Hoover of course makes many lists because of the Great Depression.

It's actually a myth that Hoover did nothing in response in the early stages in what would become known as The Great Depression

The Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act, for example

in 1929, raising import taxes

increasing income taxes to balance the budget,

the Reconstruction Finance Corporation to bail out businesses

and increased crony capitalism likely just made things worse

under his watch, a recession became the Great Depression

His treatment of the Bonus Army veterans in D.C. was disgraceful.

Simply put, Hoover DID try to end the Great Depression, but simply made it worse.

FDR didn't have much success either after that, but at least FDR seemed more in touch with ordinary people.

Hoover seemed very out of touch with most Americans.

Number Three, Franklin Pierce

Oh Pierce, where do I begin?

I know, how about with the Kansas-Nebraska Act?

Again, a law that was one of the worst laws passed in American history

and he signed it into law.

A doughface. Sorry that was a little harsh there, but

A Northerner, who was perfectly fine with slavery.

The Ostend Manifesto

Pierce seemed to be ok with declaring war on Spain if it refused to sell Cuba to the United States.

Pierce wanted Cuba annexed as a slave state.

Boy did that make Northerners happy.

At a rocky time, when the country needed unity,

Pierce arguably helped further divide the country.

Also, at a time when the country needed a more hands-on and active President,

He was not.

But you know who was worse? Number Two, James Buchanan

That's right, Buchanan was worse.

He took over as President after Pierce,

and instead of learning from Pierce's mistakes, he just let the country become even more divided.

Another (censored). You didn't have to bleep that out, I said (censored).

Ok, doughface. He was a President who did nothing. He didn't want to make

He didn't want to make anyone mad, but he also didn't want to make anyone happy.

He personally was against slavery. He said it was morally wrong.

And yet proceeded to speak out in favor of the Dred Scott Decision,

one of the worst Supreme Court decisions in American history

In fact, he was so pro-South that he basically just let the South do whatever they wanted.

When the states seceded after the election of Abraham Lincoln in the election of 1860,

he blamed the Northerners

and the abolitionists

By the time he was out of office, the United States was on the brink of civil war

and the Union had fallen apart

and he did absolutely nothing to stop it.

And the worst President in American history, in my opinion,

is Warren Harding

He once said, quote

"I am not fit for this office and should never have been here."

I agree.

He appointed many of his corrupt buddies to be in his Cabinet.

Some of them famously got in trouble

for bribery in what became known as the Teapot Dome Scandal.

I know this sounds bad, but he was probably our dumbest President.

He was not a deep thinker at all.

He seemed to just let all his corrupt buddies make all the decisions.

He didn't stand for anything.

You didn't know where he stood, because he rarely stated where he stood on issues.

He seemed to have no moral compass.

While President, he would often cheat on his wife

and he had parties in the White House where they would illegally gamble

and smuggle in alcohol at the height of Prohibition

He didn't ever get much work done.

He preferred socializing and partying to working.

When he actually did work, he signed crappy laws.

One law he actually did sign was the Emergency Quota Act,

which was really a law designed to favor Western and Northern European immigrants,

and limit Southern and Eastern European immigrants, as well as most of the rest of the world.

To sum it up

while Harding was a nice guy who was easy to get along with,

he surrounded himself with shady characters,

and avoided any action whatsoever

while in office. He was just a horrible President.

and if you haven't noticed by now, character means a lot to me in terms of how I view a President

though there are exceptions, like Harding who I just mentioned

and George W. Bush

I love you man, but you just made some really bad decisions while in office.

Well that will do it. Those were my ten least favorite Presidents.

The ten worst Presidents in my opinion.

If you're new here, oh my gosh, thank you!

Hi, how are you?

My name is Julie and I am an author and a BookTuber and I'm here to talk about all things

books...usually.

But, today is an AuthorTube video so I hope you guys will stick around.

Today I am here with the Work in Progress Tag and I have it pulled up on my computer

which is over to the side of me.

I'm going to go over the questions.

I haven't seen too many of these and I also have not pre-prepared any of my answers.

So, we'll see how this goes.

But this is my Author Jessie Elliot and she originally did this...I think she's got a

couple different versions out for her different books that she's worked on in the past.

I am going to be answering this about Book 1 of my new series.

I do have a book already published and I happen to actually have it in front of me.

It is Shoot Down the Wendy Bird, by me, Julie Zantopoulos.

It's available on Amazon, Barnes &Noble, Book Depository- all of the book sellers, just

look for it.

But, like, only online.

I know some people have gone into stores and looked for it, awww you guys are great and

I love you but I'm not in stores you have to find it online.

I also have a fantasy series that I am working on and I have finished book one and am in

editing process to get it ready for Beta readers.

And I have started writing book two.

Now while book two is what I'm technically writing right now I am mainly focused on book

one and my editing process for that.

So, I am going to answer all these questions for book one because I don't want to spoil

anything for book two.

You guys have already met my main characters which continue from book one to book two.

But, if you have not seen my Meet My Main Character Tag check that out up above.

I'm going to go ahead and start answering questions about my current work in progress,

which is book one.

The first question is: What is the working title of your book?

I did not have a working title of my book while I was writing it, however, since then

I have loosely titled all three of the books in my series that I have mapped out so far.

Book one will be Dawn Till Dusk.

It's kinda reminiscent of the way that I guess Aisling's life is going.

You know, things are really good at the beginning of the book and they tend to darken.

So you go from dawn till dusk.

It's a progression and then those kind of vibes for the titles continues through the

rest of the books but I'm not going to tell you all of them yet.

We'll see how it goes, but that's the tentative title for right now.

Where did the idea for my book come from?

I think I answered this in a Q&A before but I don't remember where exactly it came from.

I do know that I've had it in my head for about five years.

I've always been obsessed with fae but I've always been very intrigued by witches as well.

I knew that I wanted a cross over between the two and I wanted something that included

both of those things.

I guess the idea just came to me from there in bits and pieces.

I don't recall exactly how all of that happened, it just kind of happened.

I outlined book 1,2& 3 about four and a half years ago so it's been a while.

What genre does my book fall under?

This is a difficult one for me.

I wrote it as YA but I'm going to edit it and publish it hopefully as new adult.

Which does not necessarily mean a ton of smexy time, what it does mean is that it's college

aged kids.

There's a lack of college aged fantasy and I wanted to be able to provide that.

So, it's hard for me to call book one a fantasy because it may read more like a contemporary

to a lot of people.

It's set in a world that is going to be recognizeable even if there's magical elements that aren't.

An urban fantasy, I guess, since it does have contemporary feels in a world that you know

but then also some magical elements.

It's a process to figure out where this book falls, guys.

All I know is that I love it and I hope you do, too.

Oh no!

What actor would I pick to play my characters in the movie rendition?

I don't fan cast!

I don't fancast when I read a book and I don't fan cast for my own work.

That's so hard for me to do.

Aisling is Aisling and Riordan is Riordan.

Trent is Trent.

Lettie is Lettie.

Sean is Sean.

Kyle and Natalie and her parents...there's just no way for me to fancast these people

because they're already just so clearly a certain person in my head.

It's hard for me to allocate those characteristics to a living person that I see as both the

actors and the roles they have played in the past, so I have no idea.

I don't think I can do it.

What is the one sentence synopsis of your book?

I have had this in my head so long and the elevator pitch has changed so much because

the story has changed as I wrote it.

Originally it was "A girl from a small town that discovers she's more special than she

knew."

That's so generic!

I haven't like rewritten my one sentence synopsis.

If I had to tell you in one sentence what Dawn Till Dusk was I would say it is about

uncovering family secrets and discovering your place in a world that looks nothing like

you used to think it looked.

Will I be self-published or represented by an agency?

I will hopefully be represented by an agency but if I have to self-publish I have no problems

doing that.

I loved self-publishing the first time around.

I loved the control that it gave me.

While I would love to pitch this book to people, if they just don't love it and I can't get

anybody to look at it in a way that gives me constructive criticism so that I can eventually

traditionally publish through an agency, then I will probably just self-publish it.

I really do think that self-publishing is becoming the new way to publish.

I think a lot of authors appreciate the control that gives them and I think that traditional

publishing, while it's not necessarily going by the wayside, is a lot less important to

the success of the book.

Especially if you know people in the book community.

I don't think it's as necessary.

Obviously, you still would love to be traditionally published but I have no problem putting this

book out to you guys self-published.

How long did it take me to write the first draft of the manuscript?

The actual writing process of book one took me a little bit under two months.

Once I took out my character sheets and notes and all my plotting and pre-work for the book

and really looked at just my word count I had maybe 7,000 words already done.

The majority of them did not stay through the first round of writing.

So, I ended up with about 97k words, a little bit over 97k words for book one.

I wrote all of that in two months.

I had a 2k a day goal for my writing and I stuck to that pretty heavily.

I went over and under, obviously some days but it took me a little bit under 2 months

to write all of book one.

What other books would I compare this to?

I would compare this to probably the Wicked Lovely series by Melissa Marr because there

is a lot of fae in it eventually.

I would say maybe book two is more Melissa Marr.

Book one, which is what I should be talking about-get it together, Julie.

Book one would be probably more along the lines of Practical Magic where it's set in

our world and you're just kinda getting the first taste of magic.

Who or what inspired you to write the book?

Nobody inspired me to write the book.

I've been writing since forever, you guys know this, I've talked about that before.

In terms of what inspired me, it was just kinda my love for both of these genres and

both of these creatures-the witches and the fae.

That was it.

I don't think there's necessarily inspiration from any one person or any one place.

I just think it was my imagination.

And then the last question is What else about my book might peak a readers interest?

I have already gone over my characters.

I've already talked about both of my main characters and I think that video should peak

your interest.

I think my characters are fantastic.

I think the characters are my strong suit.

I felt that way even through Shoot Down the Wendy Bird.

I love the way that I write characters.

I love the way that I write dialogue.

I think that it's a fast moving book.

I'm really excited about doing the edits so that I can make it a little bit more cohesive

and a little bit more real and rich and deep.

I'm really diving into some of these scenes and making them feel a lot more like Shoot

Down the Wendy Bird where I pay more attention to like specific moments instead of the broad

scheme.

Making sure that each scene is as rich as it can be.

I'm really excited to do those edits.

They're gonna take time so I know you guys really want this book but I want to make it

great for you.

And then I think the other thing that's gonna be a really good selling point for me is that

it is new adult.

It's a college aged fantasy and I just really haven't seen very many of those.

I'm very very excited to have an aged up male and female protagonist in this story that

can be mature and adult and not necessarily sex driven but still have maturity to the

characters that is believable because of their age.

Hopefully, that's a selling point for you.

I also think that it's an amazing transformation in this girl who is by all means beautiful

at the start of the book and beautiful at the end.

She's strong at the beginning and she's strong at the end.

You have no transformation in terms of who she is just because she learns about these

powers, I tried to stay true to her from the beginning to the end of the book and the beginning

to the end of the series.

Hopefully that is a really big sticking point for you, too, because there is a little bit

of "the chosen one" ish to this.

She does have a very big role to play in both the Fae and human world and I don't want it

to be too tropey.

She struggles a lot with learning that and it's not always easy for her and I think that's

going to be, hopefully, a big selling point is that I'm trying to approach it from a different

way.

We'll see.

You guys will have to tell me when I get this to Beta readers.

Which I'm so nervous about but so ready for.

I'm not ready.

I'm emotionally ready to get it into Beta reader's hands but the book is just not ready

for you guys yet.

It will be coming.

I'm about 22k words into book two right now so I have a great head start but I really

am focusing right now on book one and these edits so that I can get it to beta readers.

While it's in beta readers hands I can distract myself with writing book two.

So I'm taking a little bit of a hiatus from writing to really focus on this edit, which

at this point is really more of a re-write and tightening.

So, it really is still writing.

So, that's where I am right now.

That'll just be perfect if you're wearing something big like this

Go ahead and wear some tiny earrings

If you like if you love wearing earrings if I'm just wearing these little tiny pearls they're not going to compete with

the big statement piece so keep those rules

And you'll be perfect tip number two wear something that will bring the eye down

Anything that goes down makes us appear longer and slimmer, so it's a great tip

This is also a statement piece because it's big so again

I wouldn't wear the matching earrings like these ones because

If you have a look when I put the earrings on it's just like they might look nice

but it's just a little bit too much and overdone and so I take these off and

Here's a really cool way that you can use something that may have been left to you or that

You don't a ring that you don't wear on your finger anymore. I already had this it's a choker

Adding this ring to the center of the choker

and you can just sew a little black thread to attach it and

You've got a piece of beautiful homemade special to you jewelry

it has a lot of sentimental value and

It's it's completely unique. No one else in the world will be wearing this so

This is a really cool trick if you've got one of your mums, or grandmother's rings or an old ring. You don't wear anymore

Okay, here's another cool thing you can with the ring you can get two pieces of leather, so you live it like this

Okay, here's another cool thing that I've done this beautiful pendant. I got when I was probably in my early

20s and my husband gave it to me and I loved it

But I've had it for so long and it's on a really fine chain, and I just didn't like wearing it anymore

This piece of silk came as is

but you could use leather or silk and what I've done is I've put it here so I wrap it around my neck once and

Bring it down. I'll show you

Okay, so I wrap it around my neck and I've got this left over and I can either

Tie it just like that and

Two different lengths here of the silver bits on the end is going to bring the eye down and make me look taller

this is really cool and

it's something different and

This piece here has a lot of sentimental value, and I'm not wearing it the ordinary way

So that's good so another way to wear. This is just to tie it around and put a bow and

take the bow off to the side a little bit just for something different and

Still got something coming down so it's lengthening. It's different. I made it myself and

You have probably got a whole lot of things in your jewelry cupboard or jewelry drawer that you can

Repurpose and where time and time again in a new way
